The study investigated information resources security in Federal Colleges of Education libraries in Northwest, Nigeria. The study had two research objectives. The study employed a descriptive survey research design to elicit information from the participants. The researcher purposively selected 17 participants from the study area. The researcher used open-ended interview guide as an instrument for data collection, trustworthiness and transiperabilty were used as a means of validation and reliability of the instrument. The data was collected by administrating interview and analyzed using thematic analysis with open coding. The findings revealed that theft, mutilation, non-return of borrowed items, disasters and cybercrime were the types of security issues in FCE libraries in Northwest, Nigeria. The study further revealed that the FCE libraries use only CCTV and handheld devices in protection of information resources in the library. As such, the study recommends that the college management should provide comprehensive security training to library staff and design security policy can be use punish of the libraries and college libraries under studies should install other types of electronic security devices such as RFID, 3M security gate among others for protection information resources. Purpose: This study aims to determine the frequency of hip fractures and associated risk factors among patients receiving care at the Somalia Turkish Training and Research Hospital in Mogadishu. Patients and Methods: A retrospective study of patients treated at the Somalia Turkish Training and Research Hospital in Mogadishu was carried out. 96 of the 108 patients who were admitted met the inclusion criteria. Analyzing the medical records of individuals diagnosed with hip fractures between January and December 2023 allowed for the collection of data on demographics, hip fracture type, and medical history and also conducted follow-ups to identify other potential contributing factors that may not be available in medical records. The main conclusions have been established using descriptive statistical analysis. Results: About 8.67% of all fracture cases were hip fractures, Elderly people (60+) represented the largest group at 64.6%, followed by younger people (17– 39) and Middle-aged people (40– 59) at 15.6%, and children (3– 16) at 4.2%. Females comprised 56.3% of cases, while males made up 43.8%. Most patients (78.1%) had low physical activity. Falls were the primary cause of fractures (83.3%), followed by other traumas (13.5%), and pathological fractures (7.3%). 32.3% of patients had comorbidities, 8.3% had a family history, and 22.9% had prior fractures. The most prevalent hip fractures (81.3%) were those of the femur neck, followed by subtrochanteric and intertrochanteric fractures (10.4% and 8.3%, respectively). Conclusion: This study emphasizes the frequency of hip fractures in Mogadishu, Somalia, as well as the significance of fall prevention, age, gender, and comorbidity treatment. We suggest comprehensive risk assessments, gender-specific bone health programs, fall prevention programs, focused prevention for the elderly, and public education campaigns to reduce the burden of hip fractures and encourage healthier people in our community by putting these measures into practice. The scarring stage of noma disease often presents with composite tissue loss involving hard and soft tissues with resultant fibrosis making reconstruction a challenge. Microvascular reconstruction option is associated with good outcomes when the expertise is available. Trismus, which is caused by either soft tissue fibrosis or the union of the coronoid to the zygomatic complex, is also a common presentation. Effective treatment necessitates the involvement of a diverse team of specialists and the establishment of clear treatment objectives. Mycobacterium tuberculosis is a bacterium that causes disease known as Tuberculosis. Tuberculosis is highly contagious and can result in high mortality rate if left untreated. In order to screen individuals suspected of the disease, medical expert relies on several conventional approaches which are hindered by several limitations which include time consuming, high workload, false positive results, etc. This calls for the need to develop smart and automatic approaches that can address these challenges. Majority of existing studies reported the use of 1 or 2 pretrained models and the use of SoftMax as the classifier. Moreover, majority of the studies trained models using a single type of dataset which are mostly curated from public accessible domains. Thus, this study addressed these challenges by: (1) The use of several pretrained models (2) The use of 2 classifiers which include SVM and KNN and (3) Training and validating pretrained models fused with classifiers on microscopic slide and chest X-ray images. The result achieved in this study highlights the prospect of computer-assisted techniques in triaging and screening of TB. Schizophrenia is a serious chronic mental health problem that usually starts during adolescence and early childhood. It is characterized by positive symptoms (delusions, hallucinations and grossly disorganized speech and behaviour), negative symptoms (apathy, isolation and diminished affect), and cognitive impairment that negatively affect quality of life. Its treatments include the use of pharmacological interventions, exercise, non-invasive brain stimulation and cognitive remediation training. Exercise is a very simple and cost-effective intervention. However, it is important the mechanisms of its effects are understood so that it can be trusted in clinical practice. In addition, understanding the mechanisms is important for its modification and safe use. Similarly, it may help provide the basis for invention of safe and cost-effective pharmacological or alternative therapies. From the literature, the mechanisms of diseases modifying effects of exercise seem to include increased cardiorespiratory fitness, biochemical changes (increased level of BDNF, increased N -acetylaspartate (NAA)/cr (creatine) ratio, decreased level of triglycerides, increased high density lipoprotein (HDL) and decreased salivary cortisol), structural changes (increase in cerebral volume, increased white matter integrity and increased cortical thickness) and anthropometric changes (reduced body weight and body mass index (BMI), increased muscular strength and decreased waist-hip ratio or waist circumference or hip circumference). • Schizophrenia is a serious mental health problem that affects quality of life. • Exercise plays important role in reducing symptoms of schizophrenia. • It does the above by increasing aerobic fitness and brain-derived neurotrophic factor level. • It also decreases salivary cortisol level and increases white matter integrity and brain volume. • In addition, it increases high density lipoprotein concentration and muscular strength. Truss lattice structures have gained significant interest due to their exceptional performance across various applications. However, the design of complex lattices often relies on simple unit cells with limited capabilities, making it challenging to fulfill stringent design requirements. This paper proposes a novel strategy for generating high-performance multi-topology truss lattice structures using a diverse unit cell library. The proposed method leverages a hierarchical approach for candidate unit cell generation. A simple first-level unit cell forms the base, followed by the introduction of complexity and improved properties through a second-level cell creation process. Efficient screening and rapid homogenization calculations were used to estimate the physical characteristics of the generated candidates. Subsequently, suitable unit cells are identified for inclusion in the library, ensuring high quality and minimizing redundancy. Based on the density distribution obtained from topology optimization, the selection function chooses the optimal unit cell from the library for each element within the lattice structure. Finally, strut size optimization further enhances the design. The resulting optimized lattice structures demonstrated superior performance compared to those constructed from standard unit cells and results from the existing literature. The zoophytophagous mirid predator Nesidiocoris tenuis and the ectoparasitoid Stenomesius japonicus are important biological control agents for several agricultural pests including the invasive leafminer, Phthorimaea absoluta, a destructive pest of Solanaceous crops especially tomato in sub-Saharan Africa. However, little is known about how feeding by N. tenuis can influence the tritrophic interactions in the tomato plant. Here, we tested the hypothesis that N. tenuis phytophagy would influence the tritrophic olfactory interactions between the host plant tomato and pest, predator, and parasitoid. In olfactometer assays, P. absoluta females and N. tenuis adults were both attracted to constitutive volatiles released by the tomato plant. Whereas females of P. absoluta avoided volatiles released by N. tenuis-infested plants, S. japonicus females and N. tenuis adults were attracted to the induced volatiles. In coupled gas chromatography-electroantennographic detection (GC-EAD) recordings of intact and N. tenuis-infested plant volatiles, antennae of P. absoluta and S. japonicus females both detected eight components, whereas N. tenuis adults detected seven components which were identified by GC-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) as terpenes and green leaf volatiles (GLVs). Dose-response olfactometer bioassays revealed that the responses of P. absoluta, N. tenuis, and S. japonicus varied with the composition and concentration of blends and individual compounds tested from N tenuis-induced volatiles. Females of P. absoluta showed no preference for an eight-component blend formulated from the individual repellents including hexanal, (Z)-3-hexenyl butanoate, and δ-elemene identified in the volatiles. On the other hand, S. japonicus females were attracted to an eight-component blend including the attractants (E)-2-hexenal, (Z)-3-hexenol, methyl salicylate, β-phellandrene, and (E)-caryophyllene. Likewise, N. tenuis adults were attracted to a seven-component blend including the attractants β-phellandrene, δ-elemene, and (E)-caryophyllene identified in the volatiles. Background: Home-based rehabilitation is a cost-effective means of making services available for patients. The aim of this study is to determine the evidence in the literature on the effects of home-based neurostimulation in patients with stroke. Method: We searched PubMED, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, and CENTRAL for randomized controlled trials on the subject matter using keywords such as stroke, electrical stimulation and transcranial direct current stimulation. Information on participants' characteristics and mean scores on the outcomes of interest were extracted. Risks of bias and methodological quality of the included studies were assessed using Cochrane Risks of bias tool and PEDro scale respectively. The data was analyzed using both narrative and quantitative syntheses. In the quantitative synthesis, meta-analysis was carried out using random effect model analysis. Result: The results showed that, home-based neurostimulation is superior to the control at improving upper limb muscle strength (SMD = 0.72, 95% CI = 0.08 to 1.32, p = 0.03), functional mobility (SMD = -0.39, 95% CI = -0.65 to 0.14, p = 0.003) and walking endurance (SMD = 0.33, 95% CI = 0.08 to 0.59, p = 0.01) post intervention; and upper limb motor function (SMD = 0.9, 95% CI = 0.10 to 1.70, p = 0.03), functional mobility (SMD = -0.30, 95% CI = -0.56 to -0.05, p = 0.02) and walking endurance (SMD = 0.33, 95% CI = 0.08 to 0.59, p = 0.01) at follow-up. Finding developmentally appropriate ways to support youth in understanding their own ethnic-racial identity is needed, particularly in contexts like Sweden where such support is not the norm. This preregistered longitudinal study examined whether an 8-week school-based intervention, the Identity Project, impacted youth ethnic-racial identity exploration (participation and search), resolution, private regard, and centrality. Participants were 509 adolescents in the 10th grade (Mage = 16.28, SD = 0.80; 65% self-identified girls; 52% minoritized ethnic background), who were randomized into an intervention or wait-list control group and assessed at baseline and three times post-intervention. The findings indicated an initial and simultaneous effect of the intervention only for exploration participation and resolution but did not show the expected chain of effects with earlier exploration predicting later resolution. Growth models indicated a greater increase in exploration participation over time for the intervention group than the control group. The findings indicate a mixed picture about the effectiveness of the intervention, with effects primarily narrowly targeted to exploration participation, but nevertheless highlight the potential for supporting Swedish youth in engaging with their ethnic-racial identities. The adoption of the Internet of Things (IoT) in smart manufacturing has recently seen a boost in economic and technological advancement. This is attributed to improved operational efficiency resulting from streamlined interoperability, decreased downtime, and real-time processing as compared to conventional manufacturing industries. It also brings with it a massive deployment of intelligent systems and devices from both the Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) realms within the Industrial IoT (IIoT) infrastructure, thus creating a heterogeneous interconnectivity. However, such inherent interconnectivity introduces significant security and privacy challenges. To mitigate these challenges, researchers and cybersecurity experts have recently proposed different defense mechanisms for the different facets of the cyber landscape within the IIoT infrastructure. Nevertheless, most of these techniques require major technical expertise to be implemented. Also, there is a lack of specific follow-through guides on how to adopt and implement such mechanisms. This paper aims to fill that gap by providing in-depth guidance on adopting and deploying different defense mechanisms designed to mitigate various cyber threats while ensuring secure and privacy-preserving IIoT infrastructure. The article first emphasizes the implications of cyber threats targeting IIoT tools and infrastructure as well as vulnerabilities emerging due to IT and OT convergence. It then delves into recent state-of-the-art protection mechanisms designed to mitigate these attacks based on a robust framework that includes all defenses. In addition, comprehensive guides to be adopted for a secure and privacy-preserving IIoT are provided. Finally, other challenges and open research questions are presented to pave the way towards efficient deployment of secure and privacy-preserving schemes for the IIoT in smart manufacturing. The attacks on African immigrants in South Africa have generated a lot of media attention both within and outside the country. This issue has not yet garnered enough critical attention in the field of literature, especially poetry. The purpose of this research is to analyse selected poems from Epiphanie Mukasano's collection Kilimanjaro on My Lap (2010) that discuss the hardships of African immigrants in South Africa. For the purposes of this study, this research uses migration theory. The research finds that racism and xenophobia are to blame for the country's immigration issues in the poems selected for the study. Asserting that the majority of immigrants are seeking protection due to upheaval in their home countries, Mukasano implores those who commit abhorrent acts of xenophobia and racism to have mercy on the immigrants. Consequently, Mukasano's answers to xenophobic assaults in the selected poems are addressed in this study. Mukasano makes an attempt to persuade the perpetrators of racism and xenophobia in South Africa that Pan-Africanism ought to be seen as a brotherhood rather than an enemy. Poems by Mukasano generally focus on the critical observation of people and their attitudes towards immigrants in general, regardless of their status, as well as the challenging consequences faced by black people. Protest poetry by Mukasano is vocal and engaged in challenging the status quo. Background: Surgical safety remains a critical global health concern, with complications from surgical procedures resulting in significant morbidity and mortality, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. The World Health Organization (WHO) Surgical Safety Checklist (SSC) has been shown to reduce surgical complications and mortality rates. However, its implementation and impact in resource-limited settings like Somalia remain understudied. This study aimed to evaluate the implementation of the WHO SSC in selected hospitals in Mogadishu, Somalia, and assess its impact on surgical safety practices. Methods: A pre- and post-intervention study was conducted in 15 randomly selected hospitals in Mogadishu, Somalia. The intervention involved a comprehensive training program on the WHO SSC for surgical teams. Data on hospital characteristics, surgical details, and adherence to the SSC were collected over two periods: pre-intervention (April 12th to May 4th, 2024) and post-intervention (May 12th to June 3rd, 2024). The primary outcome was the adherence to the SSC, categorized as good (> 60%) or poor (≤ 60%). Descriptive statistics, McNemar's test, and binary logistic regression were used for data analysis. Results: Adherence to the WHO SSC significantly improved post-intervention, with 98.8% of surgical cases demonstrating good adherence compared to 37% pre-intervention (p < 0.001). The mean adherence score increased from 51.6% (SD = 29.6) to 94.1% (SD = 8.2). Significant improvements were observed for most individual checklist items, including patient identity confirmation, surgical site marking, anesthesia machine checks, and pulse oximeter use (p < 0.001). Team dynamics and communication also improved significantly post-intervention. Hospital type, size, years of service, funding source, surgical department, surgery type, urgency, and staff numbers were associated with checklist adherence pre-intervention. Conclusion: The implementation of a comprehensive training intervention significantly improved adherence to the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist in resource-limited hospitals in Mogadishu, Somalia. The findings highlight the feasibility and effectiveness of the SSC in enhancing surgical safety practices, team communication, and patient outcomes in challenging healthcare environments. ABSTRACT Due to its intricate molecular and structural characteristics, vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR‐2) is essential for the development of new blood vessels in various pathological processes and conditions, especially in cancers. VEGFR‐2 inhibitors have demonstrated significant anticancer effects by blocking many signaling pathways linked to tumor growth, metastasis, and angiogenesis. Several small compounds, including the well‐tolerated sunitinib and sorafenib, have been approved as VEGFR‐2 inhibitors. However, the widespread side effects linked to these VEGFR‐2 inhibitors—hypertension, epistaxis, proteinuria, and upper respiratory infection—motivate researchers to search for new VEGFR‐2 inhibitors with better pharmacokinetic profiles. The key molecular interactions required for the interaction of the small molecules with the protein target to produce the desired pharmacological effects are identified using computer‐aided drug design (CADD) methods such as pharmacophore and QSAR modeling, structure‐based virtual screening, molecular docking, molecular dynamics (MD) simulation coupled with MM/PB(GB)SA, and other computational strategies. This review discusses the applications of these methods for VEGFR‐2 inhibitor design. Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa, and the essential foods for Nigerians are cereal crops, including maize, rice, sorghum, millet, and wheat. However, their productivity is significantly affected by population pressure, poor cropland utilization, and high fertilizer costs. Against this backdrop, this study examines the relationship between cereal production, cereal cropland area, fertilizer usage, and the rural population (farm labor). The study utilizes the novel dynamic autoregressive distributed lag simulation (DYARDLS) model and analyzes annual time series data for Nigeria from 1980 to 2021. The unit root test results suggest that the chosen variables are stationary. Furthermore, the bound test affirms that all variables are cointegrated, with a significance level of 1%. The results from the DYARDLS show that in the long run, a percentage change in rural population and cereal cropland area boosts cereal food production by 0.018% and 0.51%, respectively. Meanwhile, a 1% change in the food production index exacerbates cereal output by 0.25% in the long run and 1.06% in the short run. We also find that fertilizer consumption could improve cereal production in the short and long run, but the results are insignificant. In conclusion, we demonstrate that our study variables are the decisive determining factors of cereal productivity and cannot be disregarded in the mission to attain food security. As a semiconductor material, graphitic carbon nitrate (g-C 3 N 4) has gained a remarkable interest and attracted the attention of many scholars in environmental photocatalysis, due to its outstanding properties such as: low toxicity, easy synthesis, good thermal and electronic properties, suitable energy band gap (∼2.7 eV), and/or visible light absorption. However, despite all these unique properties there are still some drawbacks that affect its photocatalytic performance for H 2 generation via photocatalytic water-splitting such as; massive charge carriers' recombination, low surface area and low visible light absorption. A lot of attempts and/or efforts has been made to address these drawbacks for better performance of g–C 3 N 4 –based material. However, despite all these attempts, there is still little review papers that discuss more on the recent synthesis method and strategies to enhance the performance of g–C 3 N 4 –based photocatalyst. Herein, this review focused on recent development and future prospect to enhance the photocatalytic H 2 performance of g–C 3 N 4 –based photocatalyst for photocatalytic water splitting. The study also goes further to discuss more on the structure and properties of g-C 3 N 4 , important of H 2 as a fuel, photocatalysis, water splitting (H 2 and O 2 evaluation reaction), recent synthesis methods, forming heterojunctions, loading sacrificial reagent, and elemental doping, as well as photocatalytic performance of H 2 generation of g–C 3 N 4 –based materials. This review has explored the necessary roadmap of achieving higher H 2 generation rate using g–C 3 N 4 –based photocatalysts. In the ever-changing landscape of China's digital economy, comprehending the transition drivers from latent to active participation in entrepreneurship is critical. This research explores the factors shaping the decisions of latent entrepreneurs to become active entrepreneurs in a digital context. Using simple random sampling, this study randomly selected 18 industries within China's major cities. This study collected cross-sectional data from 485 respondents in high-tech and low-tech industries across six major Chinese cities and tested the model using partial least structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). Statistical findings conducted by SmartPLS reveal a nuanced interplay between personal factors and external traits in shaping the transition to active entrepreneurship. In particular, entrepreneurial competence, digital skills and literacy, and adaptability are crucial personal factors influencing this transition. Access to the necessary technology, startup cost, market and customer base, and government support are external traits found to significantly shape individual decisions to venture into digital entrepreneurship. Surprisingly, Logistics and Transportation (LAT) had no substantial impact on the transformation. This investigation strengthens entrepreneurship theory while also providing policymakers and industry actors with practical insights. Personalized training for entrepreneurs, spending on digital infrastructure, evidence-based regulations, and enhanced business innovation initiatives are among the recommendations. In this study, we discovered that personal factors such as individual skills in digital technology, personal competence, and adaptability have a significant impact on their decision to establish a business. External forces including access to technology, enough funding, establishing markets and customers and political assistance are also significant. Interestingly, the study discovered that the logistics and transportation industry had no influence on whether or not someone became an active entrepreneur. Overall, this research improves our understanding of entrepreneurship and makes recommendations for how governments and corporations may assist people who wish to establish digital firms. Background: The interplay of OGG1, 8-Oxoguanine, and oxidative stress triggers the exaggerated release of cytokines during malaria, which worsens the outcome of the disease. We aimed to investigate the involvement of OGG1 in malaria and assess the effect of modulating its activity on the cytokine environment and anemia during P. berghei malaria in mice. Methods: Plasmodium berghei ANKA infection in ICR mice was used as a malaria model. OGG1 concentration and oxidative stress levels in P. berghei-infected mice and their control counterparts were assessed during malaria using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. OGG1 activity in malaria mice was modulated using treatment with TH5487 and O8-OGG1 inhibitors. The effects of modulating OGG1 activity using OGG1 inhibitors on cytokine release and anemia during P. berghei malaria infection were assessed by cytometric bead array and measurement of total normal red blood cell count respectively. Results: The plasma OGG1 level was significantly upregulated and positively correlated with parasitemia during P. berghei malaria in mice. Modulation of OGG1 ameliorated malaria severity by improving the total normal RBC count in TH5487 and O8-treated mice. Modulation of OGG1 with TH5487 caused significant reductions in serum levels of TNF-α, IFN-γ, IL-6, and IL-10. Similarly, OGG1 modulation activity using an O8-OGG1 inhibitor caused a significant reduction in serum levels of TNF-a, IL-2, IL-6, and IL-10. Conclusion: The findings indicate the involvement of OGG1 in the P. berghei malaria infection. OGG1 inhibition by TH5487 and O8-OGG1 inhibitors suppressed excessive cytokine release, and this may represent a novel therapeutic strategy for ameliorating the severity of malaria infection. This study aimed to explore how student teachers experienced the framing of ethnicity in initial teacher education in Sweden. Ten focus group discussions were conducted (N = 42; 21% minoritized ethnic background). An inductive thematic analysis was used. The findings showed that ethnicity was framed as mainly concerning "others" and that it was framed as sensitive. The current framing of ethnicity suggests that initial teacher education does not prepare student teachers to support positive youth ethnic-racial identity development. The findings highlight a need for student teachers, and teacher educators, to explore their own ethnic-racial identities through critical discussions that challenge notions of ethnicity as something that concerns "others". Furthermore, the findings highlight student teachers' and teacher educators' needs for structured support in how to critically engage in "sensitive" discussions. Further, the results illustrate how the framing of ethnicity resonates with aspects of social identity theory and with the postcolonial concept "othering". [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Hemolysis Elevated Liver Enzymes Low Platelets (HELLP) syndrome, a complication of preeclampsia/eclampsia, is associated with severe maternal morbidity and mortality. In resource-limited settings, such as Uganda, gaps in routine laboratory assessments may lead to underdetection of HELLP syndrome. This study determined the prevalence and factors associated with HELLP syndrome among pregnant women with preeclampsia/eclampsia at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital (MRRH), southwestern Uganda. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at the high-risk ward of the MRRH from December 2022 to June 2023. Pregnant women diagnosed with preeclampsia or eclampsia were enrolled consecutively. Participants' sociodemographic and clinical data were collected using an interviewer-administered questionnaire. The diagnosis of complete HELLP syndrome was made based on the Tennessee classification: aspartate aminotransferase enzyme ≥ 70 IU/L, platelet counts < 100,000 cells/µL, and serum lactate dehydrogenase enzyme ≥ 600 IU/L. We used multivariable modified Poisson regression analysis to determine factors associated with HELLP syndrome. Results: A total of 129 participants with a mean age of 28 ± 6.6 years were enrolled in the study. The prevalence of HELLP syndrome was 18.6% (n = 24; 95% CI: 12.7–26.3%). Independent factors associated with HELLP syndrome were maternal age (adjusted prevalence ratio [aPR]: 4.96; 95% CI: 1.57–15.65; for mothers aged < 20 years compared to those aged 20–34 years), the presence of epigastric pain (aPR: 5.89; 95% CI: 1.41–14.63), and referral from other health facilities (aPR: 3.14; 95% CI: 1.27–7.72). Conclusion: Approximately 2 of the 10 women who presented with preeclampsia or eclampsia had HELLP syndrome. It is more common among teenage mothers, those with a history of epigastric pain and those referred from lower health facilities. Incorporating routine laboratory testing for HELLP syndrome in the diagnostic protocol for preeclampsia or eclampsia, especially among adolescent mothers, those experiencing epigastric pain, and those referred from lower health facilities, could enhance timely detection and management of mothers with preeclampsia whose pregnancies are complicated by HELLP syndrome. Objective: Inflammatory diseases are influenced by oxidative stress. Oxidatively damaged 8-oxoG in DNA is linked to inflammation. The enzyme OGG1 is responsible for repairing the damaged base in the DNA which is linked to pro-inflammatory signaling and severe inflammation. This study aims to explore the potential of targeting OGG1 as a therapeutic strategy in inflammatory disease conditions. Methods: A comprehensive search and review of literature were conducted using appropriate scientific databases such as Google Scholar, Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, and other references to obtain relevant information that suited the title and content of this article. Results: Compelling pieces of evidence from many previous studies have shown the crucial role of the OGG1/8oxoG pathway in inflammatory disease conditions, leading to severe inflammatory response and death. Therefore, based on these pieces of evidence, targeting this enzyme (OGG1) using specific pharmacological inhibitors or interventions might lead to downregulation and amelioration of severe inflammation to reduce the morbimortality related to several disease conditions. Conclusion: This review highlighted the molecular mechanism of OGG1 activity via the 8-oxo/OGG1 pathway and its role in inflammation and inflammatory disease conditions. Due to the paucity of studies involving OGG1in inflammatory infectious diseases, further research projects are needed to explore the therapeutic potential of various OGG1 inhibitors to serve as novel therapeutic strategies in infectious inflammatory diseases of medical importance in developing countries such as malaria, meningitis, tuberculosis among others. Severe burn injuries are defined by a prolonged hypermetabolic response characterized by increases in resting energy expenditure, systemic catabolism, and multi-organ dysfunction. The sustained elevation of catecholamines following a burn injury is thought to significantly contribute to this hypermetabolic response, leading to changes in adipose tissue such as increased lipolysis and the browning of subcutaneous white adipose tissue (WAT). Failure to mitigate these adverse changes within the adipose tissue has been shown to exacerbate the post-burn hypermetabolic response and lead to negative outcomes. Propranolol, a non-selective β-blocker, has been clinically administered to improve outcomes of pediatric and adult burn patients, but there is inadequate knowledge of its effects on the distinct adipose tissue depots. In this study, we investigated the adipose depot-specific alterations that occur in response to burn injury. Moreover, we explored the therapeutic effects of β-adrenoceptor blockade via the drug propranolol in attenuating these burn-induced pathophysiological changes within the different fat depots. Using a murine model of thermal injury, we show that burn injury induces endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress in the epididymal (eWAT) but not in the inguinal (iWAT) WAT depot. Conversely, burn injury induces the activation of key lipolytic pathways in both eWAT and iWAT depots. Treatment of burn mice with propranolol effectively mitigated adverse burn-induced alterations in the adipose by alleviating ER stress in the eWAT and reducing lipolysis in both depots. Furthermore, propranolol treatment in post-burn mice attenuated UCP1-mediated subcutaneous WAT browning following injury. Overall, our findings suggest that propranolol serves as an effective therapeutic intervention to mitigate the adverse changes induced by burn injury, including ER stress, lipotoxicity, and WAT browning, in both adipose tissue depots. Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a widespread global epidemic that affects individuals across all age groups and presents a significant public health challenge. Comprising various cardio-metabolic risk factors, MetS contributes to morbidity and, when inadequately addressed, can lead to mortality. Current therapeutic approaches involve lifestyle changes and the prolonged use of pharmacological agents targeting the individual components of MetS, posing challenges related to cost, compliance with medications, and cumulative side effects. To overcome the challenges associated with these conventional treatments, herbal medicines and phytochemicals have been explored and proven to be holistic complements/alternatives in the management of MetS. Thymoquinone (TQ), a prominent bicyclic aromatic compound derived from Nigella sativa emerges as a promising candidate that has demonstrated beneficial effects in the treatment of the different components of MetS, with a good safety profile. For methodology, literature searches were conducted using PubMed and Google Scholar for relevant studies until December 2023. Using Boolean Operators, TQ and the individual components of MetS were queried against the databases. The retrieved articles were screened for eligibility. As a result, we provide a comprehensive overview of the anti-obesity, anti-dyslipidaemic, anti-hypertensive, and anti-diabetic effects of TQ including some underlying mechanisms of action such as modulating the expression of several metabolic target genes to promote metabolic health. The review advocates for a paradigm shift in MetS management, it contributes valuable insights into the multifaceted aspects of the application of TQ, fostering an understanding of its role in mitigating the global burden of MetS. Background: Healthcare workers are a high-risk group for COVID-19 and protecting them is crucial for healthcare delivery. Limited studies have explored compliance with infection prevention and control (IPC) practices among Somali healthcare workers. This study aimed to determine compliance with IPC practices among healthcare workers in De Martino Public Hospital, Somalia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at the De Martino Public Hospital, Mogadishu, Somalia from August to October 2022, with the participation of 204 healthcare workers (response rate = 97%). Compliance was assessed using responses to 25 questions on a five-point Likert-type scale, and a median score of 20 was used to dichotomize compliance scores. A chi-square test and logistic regression analysis were performed to check the associations between healthcare workers' socio-demographic information, IPC-related factors, work conditions and practices on COVID-19, and IPC compliance during healthcare interventions using SPSS 23 version. Results: In total, 58.3% of the participants had good compliance with IPC. There were significant associations between IPC compliance and the type of healthcare worker (doctors and doctor assistants: 72.3%, nurses and paramedical staff: 67.3%, non-clinical staff: 5.7%, p < 0.01). After adjusting for potential confounding factors, compared to non-clinical staff, doctors and doctor assistants (OR: 12.11, 95% CI: 2.23–65.84) and nurses and paramedical staff (OR: 21.38, 95% CI: 4.23–108.01) had higher compliance with IPC measures. There were no significant associations between compliance and sex, marital status, vaccination status, or smoking (p > 0.05 for all). Conclusions: Low levels of compliance with COVID-19 IPC measures were observed among hospital workers. Prioritizing awareness campaigns and behavior change interventions, especially among non-clinical staff, is crucial for effective COVID-19 infection prevention and control within hospitals. Interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) data suffer from an elevation bias due to signal penetration into the firn and ice surface, rendering the height information unusable for elevation and mass-change detection. This study estimates the penetration bias in X-band InSAR data to quantify its impact on elevation and mass-change detection and to demonstrate the applicability of TanDEM-X digital elevation models (DEMs) for cryosphere research. To achieve this, a multiple linear regression model is applied to a time series of four TanDEM-X DEMs acquired between 2010 and 2018 over the Sverdrup Glacier basin (SGB), Devon Ice Cap, Canada. The resulting penetration corrected TanDEM-X DEMs agreed to within ±14 cm of spatially and temporally coincident precise in situ kinematic dGPS data (±10 cm RMSE). Additionally, multi-year estimations of mass change for the SGB derived from differencing TanDEM-X DEMs over multi-year periods between 2010 and 2018, showed good agreement with mean deviation of 338 ± 166 mm w.e. with independent measurements of mass change derived from annual in situ surface mass balance over the same time periods. Context: Interindividual variability in pain is modified by interactions of multiple biopsychosocial factors. Though there are reported findings on pain variability from studies around the world, the relationship between pain outcomes and anthropometric profiles remains unclear due to conflicting findings. Aim: This study was designed to investigate relationships between experimental pain outcomes and anthropometric profiles in a healthy Nigerian population. Materials and Methods: One hundred and sixty-one healthy volunteers aged 20 to 65 years were recruited for the study. Experimental pain was induced using cold pressor pain, pressure pain, and ischemic pain procedures. Results: We found that subjects with a normal body mass index (BMI) had a statistically significant higher ischemic pain tolerance than their obese counterparts. Right-handed participants had higher cold pressor pain thresholds than their left-handed counterparts, and the difference was statistically significant. Hb genotype and blood groups affected experimental pain outcomes. There was a statistically significant negative correlation between BMI and ischemic pain tolerance. Conclusion: We concluded that the association between BMI and experimental pain outcomes depends on the type of pain induction method used. This study aimed to assess the feasibility of employing indigenous cyanide-degrading bacterial strains for the treatment of cassava mill effluent (CME) in Nigeria, a hazardous waste material posing significant public health risks. The physicochemical properties and heavy metal concentrations in CME were determined through standard methodologies. Cyanide-degrading bacteria were isolated, characterized, and identified using molecular techniques. These strains were immobilized within a porous network of cross-linked biochar, confirmed through SEM imaging, and evaluated alongside free cells for CME bioremediation. Multiple variables were examined to assess the effluent's pollution load, including pH, electrical conductivity (EC), chemical oxygen demand (COD), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5), total dissolved solids (TDS), nitrate (NO3), phosphate (PO4), and cyanide levels, falling within respective ranges of (4.00-4.02), (2394-2618 S/cm), (985-1219 mg/L), (1556-1667 mg/L), (3459-3705 mg/L), (2709-2812 mg/L), (251-311 mg/L), (87.25-118 mg/L), and (25.00-28 mg/L). Copper was the most prevalent heavy metal in the effluent, while chromium was detected at the lowest levels, with mean values of 10.00-12.39 mg/L and 0.00-0.27 mg/L, respectively. The study revealed severe contamination of the effluent, above the Federal Environmental Protection Agency (FEPA) threshold limit. The 16S rDNA of the cyanide degrading bacteria were deposited at the NCBI database and the following GenBank accession numbers were assigned (MK71248O, MK71281, MK712482, and MK712483) for Pseudomonas putida, Bacillus subtilis, Alcaligenes faecalis and Leuconostoc mesenteroides respectively. Results of the bioremediation approach demonstrated a substantial reduction in physicochemical parameters and heavy metal contents, indicating a promising biological treatment strategy to mitigate CME's adverse effects on public health. In conclusion, despite elevated physicochemical parameters and heavy metal concentrations in CME, this study offers a promising avenue for employing biological treatments to mitigate environmental and public health impacts. This study aims to investigate the potential impact of inhibitors targeting the papain-like protease (PLpro) of SARS-CoV-2 on viral replication and the host immune response. A mathematical model was developed to simulate the interaction among susceptible cells, infected cells, PLpro, and immune cells, incorporating data on PLpro inhibition. Through numerical simulations using MATLAB, the model parameters were estimated based on available statistical data. The results indicate that strategically positioned inhibitors could impede the virus’s access to host cellular machinery, thereby enhancing the immune response and gradually reducing susceptible and infected cells over time. The dynamics of the viral enzyme PLpro showed reduced activity with the introduction of the inhibitor, leading to a decline in viral replication. Moreover, the immune cell population exhibited functional recovery as the inhibitor suppressed PLpro activity. Introduction: Several studies have assessed and validated the impact of exoskeletons on back and shoulder muscle activation; however, limited research has explored the role that exoskeletons could play in mitigating lower arm-related disorders. This study assessed the impact of Ironhand, an active hand exoskeleton (H-EXO) designed to reduce grip force exertion, on worker exertion levels using a two-phase experimental design. Method: Ten male participants performed a controlled, simulated drilling activity, while three male participants completed an uncontrolled concrete demolition activity. The impact of the exoskeleton was assessed in terms of muscle activity across three different muscles using electromyography (EMG), perceived exertion, and perceived effectiveness. Results: Results indicate that peak muscle activation decreased across the target muscle group when the H-EXO was used, with the greatest reduction (27%) observed in the Extensor Carpi Radialis (ECR). Using the exoskeleton in controlled conditions did not significantly influence perceived exertion levels. Users indicated that the H-EXO was a valuable technology and expressed willingness to use it for future tasks. Practical Applications: This study showcases how glove-based exoskeletons can potentially reduce wrist-related disorders, thereby improving safety and productivity among workers. Purpose: This study compares transcranial Doppler (TCD) Pulsatility Index (PI) and Resistivity Index (RI) with intra-operative CSF opening pressure measured by manometric technique during ventriculoperitoneal (V-P) shunt in children with hydrocephalus. Methods: It was a prospective, hospital-based study performed among patients diagnosed with hydrocephalus. Patients had TCD ultrasonography before V-P shunt. The TCD sonography was repeated within 1 week post-op, and at 1 month post-op. The PI and RI were retrieved after insonating the middle cerebral artery. Ventricular CSF opening pressure was measured. Associations between TCD indices and CSF pressure were determined using the t-test and the Wilcoxon rank /Mann–Whitney tests where the normality test failed. A p-value of < 0.05 was considered significant for associations. Results: Fifty-two patients were enrolled with a mean age of 9.9 ± 11.5 months. Of these, 41 (78.8%) were aged ≤ 12 months. The mean CSF opening pressure was 21.4 ± 9.0. When raised, ICP was defined as opening pressure > 15 cm of H2O, high PI (≥ 1.19), and high RI (> 0.8) diagnosed it with a sensitivity of 55% and 50%, respectively. The mean pre-operative PI (1.17 ± 0.56) reduced to 0.96 (Z = − 2.032, p = 0.042), while that of RI (0.66 ± 0.17) also decreased to 0.58 (t = 2.906, p = 0.044) after V-P shunt surgery. A strong positive correlation exists between a reduction in PI and RI after V-P shunt (r = 0.743, p = 0.014). Influenza virus transmission is largely mediated by its mutation and genome reassortment from distinct strains resulting in drug-resistances and pandemics. This necessitates the need for the discovery of more potential influenza inhibitors to prevent future epidemics. An in-silico approach was utilized here to design six new (21a-f) potential inhibitors of influenza neuraminidase (NA) using a hit compound 21 with good binding affinity, pre- dicted activity, and pharmacokinetic properties in our previous work. The modeled activities (pEC50) of the newly designed compounds (ranging between 8.188 and 7.600) were better than that of the hit compound 21 with predicted activity (pEC50) of 6.0101 and zanamivir (pEC50 of 5.6755) as the standard reference control used. The MolDock scores (ranging between-189.67 and 142.47 kcal/mol) of these newly designed compounds in the NA binding cavity were also better than the hit template 21 with a MolDock score of-125.33 kcal/mol and zanamivir standard drug (-136.36 kcal/mol). In addition, the conformational stability of the best-designed compound 21a in the NA binding cavity was further studied through the MD simulation of 100 ns. Moreover, the drug-likeness and ADMET predictions of these designed compounds showed their good oral bioavailability and pharmacokinetic profiling respectively. More so, the DFT calculations also revealed the relevance of these designed com- pounds in view of their smaller band energy gaps from the frontier molecular orbital calculations. Background and Aims: High-pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) data on the effects of various chromatographic conditions on the retention behaviour of three different psychotropic drugs; clonazepam, diazepam, and oxazepam) were considered for simulation using a machine learning approach. Methods: For the simulation of selected psychoactive compounds using HPLC, different machine learning techniques were used in this study: adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system, multilayer perceptron, Hammerstein-Weiner model, and a traditional linear model in the form of stepwise linear regression. Four evaluation criteria were used to assess the effectiveness of the models: coefficient of determination, root mean squared error, mean squared error, and correlation coefficient. Results: The results show that machine learning approaches, especially multilayer perceptions, are more reliable than classical linear models with an average coefficient of determination value of 0.98 in both calibration and validation phases. Conclusion: The performance results also demonstrate that these models can be improved using additional approaches, such as hybrid models, ensemble machine learning, evolving algorithms, and optimisation techniques. Linezolid resistance in Enterococcus spp. is increasingly considered critically important and a public health threat which mandates the need to understand their genomic contents and dissemination patterns. Here, we used whole-genome sequencing to characterize the resistome, virulome and mobile genetic elements of nine linezolid-resistant (LZDR) enterococci (seven optrA-E. faecalis, one poxtA-E. faecium and one optrA-E. casseliflavus) previously obtained from the nares of healthy dogs, pigs, pig farmers and tracheal samples of nestling storks in Spain. Also, the relatedness of the isolates with publicly available genomes was accessed by core-genome single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) analysis. The optrA gene of the E. faecalis and E. casseliflavus isolates was located downstream of the fexA gene. The optrA gene in the E. casseliflavus isolate was carried in a plasmid (pURX4962), while those in the seven E. faecalis isolates were chromosomally located. The OptrA proteins were mostly variants of wild type (DP-2: Y176D/T481P; RDK: I104R/Y176D/E256K; DD-3: Y176D/G393D; and EDD: K3E/Y176D/G393D), except two that were wild type (one E. faecalis and one E. casseliflavus). The poxtA gene in the E. faecium isolate was found alone within its contig. The cfrD was upstream of ermB gene in the E. casseliflavus isolate and flanked by ISNCY and IS1216. All the LZDR enterococci carried plasmid rep genes (2–3) containing tetracycline, chloramphenicol and aminoglycoside resistance genes. All isolates except E. casseliflavus carried at least one intact prophage, of which E. faecalis-ST330 (X4957) from a pig carried the highest (n = 5). Tn6260 was associated with lnuG in E. faecalis-ST330 while Tn554 was with fexA in E. feaecalis-ST59 isolates. All except E. casseliflavus (n = 0) carried at least two metal resistance genes (MRGs), of which poxtA-carrying E. faecium-ST1739 isolate contained the most (arsA, copA, fief, ziaA, znuA, zosA, zupT, and zur). SNP-based analyses identified closely related optrA-E. faecalis isolates from a pig and a pig farmer on the same farm (SNP = 4). Moreover, optrA- carrying E. faecalis-ST32, -ST59, and -ST474 isolates from pigs were related to those previously described from humans (sick and healthy) and cattle in Spain, Belgium, and Switzerland (SNP range 43–86). These findings strongly suggest the transmission of LZDR-E. faecalis between a pig and a pig farmer and potential inter-country dissemination. Climate change due to natural human activity is a significant global phenomenon affecting the sustainability of most countries' livestock industries. Climate change factors such as ambient temperature, relative humidity, direct and indirect sun radiation, and wind have significant consequences on feed, water, pasture availability, and the re-emergence of diseases in livestock. All these variables have a considerable impact on livestock production and welfare. However, animals' ability to respond and adapt to changes in climate differs within species and breeds. Comparatively, small ruminants are more adaptive to the adverse effects of climate change than large ruminants in terms of reproduction performance, survival, production yield, and resistance to re-emerging diseases. This is mainly due to their morphological features against harsh climate effects. Tropical breeds are more adaptive to the adverse effects of climate change than small temperate ruminants. However, the difference in morphological characteristics towards adaptation to the impact of climate change will guide the development of suitable policies on the selection of breeding stock suitable for different regions in the world. Breast cancer, a deadly disease among women, demands effective interventions due to its global impact, with over one million annual cases. Current anti-breast cancer drugs displays several side effects, also most patients resists to these drugs during early treatment stage. Hence, global search for better drugs with less side effects became necessary. The objective of this study is to identify potential inhibitors of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-2 (VEGFR-2), a critical target in breast cancer treatment. Molecular docking-based virtual screening of 45 benzoxazole/thiazole derivatives was conducted, followed by molecular dynamics simulations to explore ligandprotein interactions. Seven ligands (compounds 7, 10, 12, 13, 14, 20, and 26) demonstrated superior binding affinities ranging from -157.85 to -173.88 kcal/mol (MolDock scores) and -109.96 to -129.23 kcal/mol (Rerank scores) compared to Sorafenib (-156.35 kcal/mol MolDock score and -102.63 kcal/mol Re-rank score). Compound 7, identified as a potential hit, exhibited stability in a 100-ns dynamic simulation. It was chosen as a template for designing novel inhibitors, resulting in five compounds with improved binding affinities ranging from -177.84 to -184.69 kcal/mol (MolDock scores) and -137.34 to -143.44 kcal/mol (Re-rank scores). Pharmacological profiling confirmed the drug-like properties of both the potential hit molecules and the designed compounds, with 0-1 violations against Lipinski's rule of five and favorable pharmacokinetics status. Metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs) have emerged as versatile materials with exceptional properties, including high porosities, large surface areas, and remarkable stabilities, making them attractive for various applications. MOF‐5 stands out for its thermal stability and surface area, making it promising for diverse applications, including drug delivery and gas adsorption. This study explores the potential of amino acid MOF (AA‐MOF) composites, integrating phenylalanine, tryptophan, and tyrosine, for selective CO2 and CH4 adsorption using grand canonical Monte Carlo (GCMC) simulations. The impact of amino acid composition and spatial arrangement within MOF‐5 on selective CO2 and CH4 adsorption performance have been investigated. The results indicate that tryptophan‐MOF‐5 exhibits the highest CO2 uptake due to the interaction between CO2 and tryptophan, while phenylalanine‐MOF‐5 demonstrated the lowest affinity for gas adsorption. Radial distribution function (RDF) analysis reveals distinct gas distribution patterns within the composites, with tryptophan playing a dominant role in gas adsorption. Additionally, analysis of total energy, enthalpy of adsorption, and Henry's coefficient provide insights into the thermodynamic aspects of gas adsorption onto AA‐MOF composites. This study enhances the understanding of the fundamental mechanisms underlying CO2 and CH4 selective adsorption in amino acid MOF composites, facilitating the development of efficient gas separation technologies. Background: Elderly patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia are increasingly having minimally invasive surgeries due to their safety. There is also a drive to minimize the duration of postoperative catheterization following transurethral resection of the prostate to reduce hospital stay and encourage early ambulation. These are desirable in the elderly to improve outcomes. Can early catheter removal be done safely in the geriatrics without an increase in presentation to the emergency department with complications? We compare the emergency presentation of elderly patients who had early and delayed catheter removal following transurethral resection of the prostate. Materials and Methods: This was a retrospective review of transurethral resection of the prostate in the elderly (≥70 years) within 2 years in a single hospital. All the patients had monopolar transurethral resection of the prostate and were categorized based on the duration of postoperative catheterization as either early (third postoperative day) or delayed (> third postoperative day). The duration of catheterization was based on surgeon preference. Patients with intraoperative complications were excluded. Data on clinical presentation, comorbidities, and presentation at the emergency department were retrieved and analysed. Results: Forty-one patients were studied with the mean age of patients being 76 ± 4 years. Twenty patients had early catheter removal and 21 had delayed catheter removal. A total of nine patients presented to the emergency department within the 30-day postoperative period with either bleeding urinary retention or incontinence requiring re-catheterization, six had early catheter removal, and three had delayed catheter removal. The catheter duration, preoperative ASA status prostate volume, and preoperative indwelling catheter were not statistically significant determinants of presentation to the emergency department in these elderly men. The presence of comorbidities assessed using the Charlson Comorbidity Index was a statistically significant variable to presentation at the emergency department after surgery P = 0.006. Conclusion: Early catheter removal is safe in elderly patients following transurethral resection of the prostate, however, there is a risk of presentation to the emergency department with complications, especially in patients with comorbidities. The ongoing conflict in Gaza strip has resulted in significant humanitarian crisis, with civilians often bearing the brunt of violence. This article critically examines the role of IHL in the protection of civilians affected by the armed conflict. The study focuses on key IHL principles, including distinction, proportionality, and precaution, and assesses their application by the parties involved. It employs an analytical and descriptive research methodology. The findings reveal that both Israel and Hamas have committed numerous violations of IHL, including indiscriminate attacks and failure to protect civilian populations. Despite the clear legal frameworks set by IHL, the lack of accountability and enforcement has hindered its effectiveness. The author concludes that while IHL provides a robust legal framework for civilian protection, the political complexities of the Israel-Hamas conflict severely limit its implementation, leaving civilians vulnerable. An infected wound affects the quality of life, and compromises the wound’s healing rate. This study was aimed at isolating bacteria from wounds and determining their antibiotics susceptibility patterns. A total of 100 wound swab samples were collected from wound patients attending Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria, Nigeria. The samples were cultured and the resulting isolates identified using biochemical tests. The identified bacteria were subjected to antibiotic susceptibility test using agar disc diffusion method. Out of the 100 wound samples collected, 43 were infected with bacteria; given rise to overall prevalence of 43% bacterial wound infection. Out of the 43 isolated bacteria, 58.1% were Staphylococcus aureus, 18.6% were Klebsiella spp while 23.3% were identified to be Pseudomonas spp. Prevalence of bacterial wound infection was higher in female patients (47.3%) than their male counterpart (37.8%). Age group 21-40 years had the highest prevalence of the infections (48.3%) and the least was observed among 10-20 years (33.3%). None of the risk factors is significantly associated with the infection (p>0.05). All the isolates were 100% susceptible to ofloxacin. All the isolates showed 100% resistance to penicillin. All the Pseudomonas species were 100% MDR. Staphylococcus aureus was the most frequently encountered bacteria and ofloxacin was the first drug of choice in the treatment of wound infections. The stable MnS monolayer was recently predicted using first-principles density functional theory (DFT) including Hubbard U (DFT+U) correction and Monte Carlo (MC) simulations. It is shown to exhibit an indirect band gap of 0.68 eV semiconductor with a high Neel temperature (TN) of 720 K and an in-plane easy axis magnetic anisotropy energy (MAE). The considered on-site Hubbard U correction takes into account only the Mn (3d) localized nature. To correct the intersite errors due to strong hybridization between bonded Mn (3d) and S (2p) states, the Hubbard +V inter-site parameter should be added to the calculations. In this study, the band gap of MnS is found to be increased to 1.24 eV (twice that for DFT+U) after considering the inter-site V correction (DFT+U+V). Since the MnS monolayer prefers an in-plane easy axis for the MAE, the estimated Berezinskii Kosterlitz Thouless transition (BKT) transition temperature is as high as 1667.8 K. The carrier mobility is calculated based on the deformation potential and effective mass and it is found that holes (2.12 cm²v-1S-1) are twice the size of these electrons (1.21 cm²v-1S-1). Introduction: The prevailing nutritional conditions and the triple challenge of malnutrition faced by adolescents have adverse consequences for both the present and future generations' health and nutrition. Summarizing the available research on the nutritional status and dietary habits of adolescents in Nigeria is crucial. Objective: This study aims to systematically evaluate available literature on the nutritional status of adolescent aged 10 to 19years in Nigeria. Methodology: A systematic search using PRISMA guideline was conducted. Three electronic databases were searched i.e., PubMed, Web of Science and Scopus using specific terms and keywords for online articles published between 2013 and 2023. After applying specified inclusion and exclusion criteria, 51 articles were selected for data extraction, synthesis and quality assessment. Results: Of the 51 included studies, 78.4% were conducted in the Southern Nigeria, 11.8% in the Northern Nigeria and 9.8% included both regions. The prevalence of overweight ranged between 0.8 and 31% and obesity ranged between 0.1 and 14%. The prevalence of thinness, stunting and underweight ranged between 3 and 31%, 0.4 to 41.6%, 0.3 to 73.3% respectively. The review also identified an inadequate intake of essential nutrients including iron, zinc, calcium, vitamin A, C, D, niacin, thiamin, riboflavin, cobalamin, and folate, with vitamin A deficiency prevalence ranges from 44 to 96%. The dietary patterns were characterized by a high consumption of cereals grains and starchy foods, low animal proteins, fast-food with soft drinks, and limited consumption of fruits and vegetables along with meal skipping. Conclusion: These findings portray a complex picture of the nutritional challenges faced by this demographic group, highlighting both undernutrition and overnutrition, poor eating behaviour and micronutrient deficiency as significant concerns. The review revealed regional disparities in research representation, with a concentration of studies in Southern Nigeria. This highlights the importance of directing research efforts toward the northern regions, where the prevalence of nutritional issues is equally severe, but less studied. Purpose: Among the Somalis living in the diaspora, there is a growing number that are returning or are interested in returning to Somalia for personal, economic and political reasons. The purpose of this paper is to examine the potential impact the diaspora has on the future of Somalia by understanding the anticipatory assumptions held by young Somali-Canadians. This research will also examine the role that Soomaalinimo [1] (Somali identity) plays in the transnational ties that diasporic individuals keep with their country and its people. Design/methodology/approach: Using an indigenist research approach, this paper explores the evolution of Soomaalinimo over time in a way that is culturally informed and decolonial. Young Somali-Canadians in two cities (Toronto and Edmonton) were given an opportunity to define Soomaalinimo for themselves and create scenarios of how it might evolve in the future for their great-grandchildren. An analysis of these scenarios reveals anticipatory assumptions that shape how they think about the future. Findings: Three distinct futures scenarios emerged, and this research revealed three key anticipatory assumptions held by the participants: Somalia will always be home; returning to Somalia is important to maintain Soomaalinimo; and it is the responsibility of the previous generations to transmit Soomaalinimo to future generations. These anticipatory assumptions are examined and an analysis of the implications on decolonizing futures is presented. Originality/value: This study expands the conceptualization of the future of a country to include the diaspora and uses the concept of anticipatory assumptions to reveal some of the potential implications of this group. We revisit neutrino oscillations in constant matter density for a number of different scenarios: three flavors with the standard Wolfenstein matter potential, four flavors with standard matter potential and three flavors with non-standard matter potentials. To calculate the oscillation probabilities for these scenarios one must determine the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the Hamiltonians. We use a method for calculating the eigenvalues that is well known, determination of the zeros of determinant of matrix (λ I - H) , where H is the Hamiltonian, I the identity matrix and λ is a scalar. To calculate the associated eigenvectors we use a method that is little known in the particle physics community, the calculation of the adjugate (transpose of the cofactor matrix) of the same matrix, (λ I - H) . This method can be applied to any Hamiltonian, but provides a very simple way to determine the eigenvectors for neutrino oscillation in matter, independent of the complexity of the matter potential. This method can be trivially automated using the Faddeev–LeVerrier algorithm for numerical calculations. For the above scenarios we derive a number of quantities that are invariant of the matter potential, many are new such as the generalization of the Naumov–Harrison–Scott identity for four or more flavors of neutrinos.
