Attending a Christian summer camp or festival is a regular feature of many evangelical church calendars within the UK. This article uses a practical theology approach to explore definitions and distinctives of evangelical camping, both within the literature on evangelical camping and through examining the websites and publicity materials of three specific camps—New Wine, Big Church Festival and Newday Generation. The analysis highlights the significance placed upon the location, size, rhythms and purposes of gathering in the festivals' self-understandings. This leads into a theological reflection upon the biblical festival of Sukkot to examine the ways in which God's work might be disclosed through the practice of evangelical camping. Three pairs of themes emerge from the comparison: located and temporal, secular and religious, and rejoicing and re-examining. These themes are drawn upon to propose ways in which God might be at work in the social world disrupting a sense of permanence, blurring the boundaries between faith and the world, and calling people into radical solidarity with creation and with the marginalized. Spending time in nature has become an activity used for many purposes. Nature offers unlimited opportunities for reasons such as personal development, excitement seeking, rehabilitation, training and relaxation. This feature of outdoor activities has led to the diversification of outdoor tourism in recent years. Campers have begun to make great efforts to see these unique beauties offered by nature and have gradually begun to increase their equipment. The difficulty and distance in reaching isolated areas has led to a certain increase in the number of campers wanting to drive. Thus camping, which is among outdoor tourism, has been developing rapidly recently and has entered different trends. Especially after the Covid-19 pandemic, people's desire to leave closed and crowded environments has increased and accordingly they have started to spend time in outdoor. This has added mobility to camping, which is a part of outdoor tourism. The widespread use of caravans and camping vehicles has made vehicle camping, which can be called a new trend, become quite evident. However, tent, caravan and recreational vehicle camping has also started to cause environmental problems. In this study, we tried to compile the types of camping that have gained momentum in recent years and the problems they cause. The results formed the basis of the study, which will be effective in protecting nature and preventing environmental pollution in camping, caravans and recreational vehicles. It is thought that it will be a guide for private and public enterprises and the camping areas they will build in the future. According to available data uneducated and unconscious camping is a serious cause of pollution. The responsibilities of local governments for the protection of nature are very important. In North America, polar bears (Ursus maritimus), grizzly bears (U. arctos), and American black bears (U. americanus) occasionally injure or kill humans. Although bear-inflicted human injuries are uncommon, they generate media attention that can lead to fear and unreasonable perceptions of the risk of bear attacks. Information on the behavioral responses of grizzly and black bears during interactions with people can provide a factual basis regarding the risks associated with recreating in bear habitats and assist land managers in developing and prioritizing bear safety messages. To address those objectives, we collected 17,171 reports of grizzly and black bear reaction behavior during interactions with people in Yellowstone National Park, USA, between 1991 and 2022. We used Bayesian Multinomial Logistic Regression models to examine the odds of attack, agitation and/or warning, flight, or curious behavioral reactions versus neutral responses in bear–human interactions. We found that reaction behavior depended on both the species involved and the location of the interaction. In developed areas and along roadsides, neutral responses were most likely for both species. On front-country trails, odds of curious or flee reactions were greater than neutral responses for both species. The odds of agitation and/or warning reactions from grizzlies were also greater in this setting. In backcountry campsites, there were marginally higher odds of black bears attacking; whereas, grizzlies had marginally higher odds of attacking during off-trail backcountry interactions. Although bear attacks were uncommon in all locations, grizzlies were ∼3.9× more likely than black bears to injure people in backcountry areas. Bear interactions with people were generally predictable; grizzly and black bears exhibited neutral behaviors or fled during most interactions. Curious approaches, agitation and/or warning behaviors, physical contact, and attacks were uncommon. Safety messages encouraging calm, confident responses during bear–human interactions are warranted, and may have better efficacy than those that generate fear and apprehension. Nature-based tourism is a prominent component of the tourism sector in South Africa, attracting both domestic and international travellers. Camping plays a crucial role, providing both affordable lodging and an opportunity to engage more directly and continuously with the natural environment. Climate is a key determinant of the feasibility of camping activities and has been empirically established as a significant influence in tourists’ decision-making process when selecting a destination. The climate in South Africa, while highly heterogenous, has been generally classified as ‘ideal’ for tourism. The Camping Climate Index (CCI) has recently been developed to quantify the climatic suitability of diverse camping locations, and the suitability of the index confirmed for South Africa. This study applies the CCI to 33 stations across South Africa for the period 1990–2022 or for the longest time period for which data are available. The average annual CCI scores range from 3.5 (‘unfavourable’) for Sutherland to 5.3 (‘acceptable’) for King Shaka International Airport. Mean monthly scores for the common period 2017–2021 range from 2.7 (‘unfavourable’) for Sutherland in August to 6.2 (‘good’) for Springbok in January and December. Purpose: In adults, diets rich in protein seem beneficial in relation to satiety, weight loss, and weight management; however, studies investigating dietary protein and weight development in children are scarce and inconsistent. This nonrandomized controlled trial aimed to investigate the effect of a higher protein diet during lifestyle intervention on anthropometry and metabolic biomarkers in children with overweight and obesity. Methods: Children (n:208) were recruited from two multicomponent lifestyle camps. One camp was assigned as the intervention group. In the intervention group, carbohydrates-rich foods at breakfast and two in-between-meals were replaced with protein-containing foods to increase the amount of protein from ~ 10–15 energy percent (E%) per day to ~ 25E% per day. Other components were similar between groups. Anthropometry and biochemical measurements were collected at baseline, 10 weeks (after camp) and 52 weeks. Results: The intervention group had a non-significant improvement in BMI-SDS (− 0.07 SD (− 0.19; 0.05), p = 0.24) compared to the control group, but in general, there was no effect of a higher protein diet on anthropometry and metabolic biomarkers. Overall, 10 weeks at camp resulted in a more favorable body composition [− 6.50 kg (p < 0.00), − 0.58 BMI-SDS (p < 0.00), and − 5.92% body fat (p < 0.00)], and improved metabolic health, with most changes maintained at 52 weeks. Conclusion: A higher protein diet had no significant effect on body composition and metabolic health; however, these lifestyle camps are an efficiatious treatment strategy for childhood obesity. Topics discussed include mission of SSCs, benefits of attending SSCs, according to studies across pediatric disciplines, and similarities between SSCs and palliative care. It also mentions SSCs for children who are not medically ill themselves but endure other health-related difficulties.

This qualitative study explores the perceptions of impact associated with engaging in a therapeutic recreation-based bereavement camp for families whose child has died from serious illness. Interviews were completed with 12 parents who had participated in a three-camp cycle of the program over 12-month period, including a subgroup who had also attended a reunion camp. Interviews were also conducted with program staff. Thematic analysis generated key themes relating to the perceived impact which suggest that those engaged in this program perceived positive contributions associated with participation, including perceptions of positive impact on coping with bereavement, access to support and implications for family functioning. This study highlights the areas of impact associated with engagement in a therapeutic recreation-based bereavement intervention, and the potential contribution of wider access to these programs for families whose child has died from serious illness. This article describes the French naturist milieu of the early 1950s. In line with the questions raised by this special issue, I focus on the commercial structures of naturism, such as the selling of natural products and foods and the renting of bungalows and camping pitches, and on its “guiding function,” namely the rationalization of the irrational through the use of the concept of natural laws and the injunctions stemming out these laws. Background: There is an urgent need for culturally and contextually relevant mental health support for First Nations, Inuit and Métis youth. Objective: Our aim was to identify mental health and wellness services that are currently available to Indigenous youth across Canada. Methodology: As a first step, we conducted a web-based environmental scan of services tailored to Indigenous youth. Specific factors were examined for each program, including organization type and mission, types of services, and who provides services. Results: One hundred and seventeen programs were found, with 54% being non-profits and 34% being on-reserve. Four core features were identified. The first was a strengths-based focus, rather than a pathology/deficit-focus, in programs' vision and mission statements, reflected in words like wellness and resilience. The second (87% of included programs) was the integration of mental health services with a range of other services and supports (e.g., health, employment, housing). The third was the provision of land-based programming (in 34% of programs) such as camps or hunting. Such programs were framed as promoting wellness and healing and strengthening identity. The fourth was the role of community members without formal mental health professional training (in 42% of programs), for example, as youth workers or knowledge keepers. This stems not only from the dearth of specialists in many Indigenous settings, but also a valuing of Indigenous knowledge. Conclusion: These core features in mental health services for Indigenous youth may be promising avenues for communities seeking to strengthen the services they offer to First Nations, Inuit and Métis youth. Camping has become a popular outdoor activity in China. However, the long and scorching summers in China's hot and humid regions pose challenges for campsites in maintaining thermal comfort. Therefore, we explored the impact of tree species and planting methods on the thermal comfort of urban campsites in hot and humid areas using the ENVI-met model to simulate the conditions of the study area. The reliability of the model was validated by comparing the simulated values of air temperature (Ta) and relative humidity (RH) with field measurements. We conducted an in-depth analysis of common trees in hot and humid areas and analyzed the effects of five tree species and four tree planting forms on the microclimate of campsites in such areas, using the physiological equivalent temperature (PET) as the evaluation index of thermal comfort. The results indicated that: (1) trees with larger crown widths were most effective in improving outdoor thermal comfort. The ability of trees to regulate microclimate was more influenced by crown width than by leaf area index (LAI), and (2) trees planted in patches provided the highest level of thermal comfort, whereas single trees provided the lowest. However, relying solely on tree planting made it difficult to significantly reduce outdoor heat stress. Therefore, other methods such as increasing ventilation or mist spray should be adopted to modify camping area. Children and adolescents with developmental challenges may rely on their parents for assistance with everyday tasks to a greater extent than typically developing children. The objective of this study was to examine family members' perspectives regarding family relationships related to participation in an adapted summer camp for children and adolescents living with a disability. A collective case study was conducted with eleven families who had a child living with a disability who participated in an adapted physical activity (PA) summer camp. A focus group was conducted with each family and thematically analyzed. Families experienced changes in perspectives and pride surrounding adapted PA, more family conversations about disability, less parental worry, more independence of the child living with a disability, and enhanced family bonds through PA. The children who participated in the camp saw impacts on their self-confidence and independence. COVID-19-related program suspension was associated with frustration, worry, and strained family relationships. These findings elucidate how participation in adapted PA for children and youth with disabilities can impact family relationships. Future interventions allow for space for family interactions and create opportunity for children and adolescents with disabilities to be independent. Practitioners could make sure they have resources to recommend and be aware of programs that are available for this population. Practitioners could talk to families about benefits of recreation programs for both children and families in terms of benefits for children and family relationships and parental stress. Knowing the potential benefits to the family as a whole may impact parents' decisions about their child participating in recreation programs. Practitioners could talk to families about benefits of physical activity participation in terms of experiencing independence. Purpose: This study reports on a program to train student clinicians to provide recast therapy on complement clauses to children with developmental language disorder (DLD). To determine the efficacy of the program, we conducted secondary data analysis based on Owen Van Horne et al. (2023) and examined student clinicians' recasts after training and children's progress after treatment. Method: Three student clinicians received a two-stage training, followed by a real intervention program targeting complement clauses in six children with DLD. A third of the intervention sessions were coded for the total number and number of unique verbs in complement clauses provided by the student clinicians. An elicited production task was completed to test children's knowledge of the target structure. Results: On average, student clinicians provided 30 targeted recasts to each child during each intervention session. They provided a greater number of and more variable input for that compared to WH complements. Children demonstrated significant improvement only in WH, but not in that, complements. Conclusions: A targeted training program could strengthen clinicians' ability to provide recast therapy on complex syntax; however, future refinements should shorten and broaden training to include more targets. A mismatch between input patterns and learning patterns was observed. WH complement input is more stable than that input, given the less variable complement-taking verbs provided by the student clinicians and the overtness of the WH word as a stable complementizer, which may have facilitated the identification and extraction of the target syntactic structure. Background: Self-perception is an important internal resource, and violence exposure can negatively impact children's view of themselves. Although camp interventions can enhance self-perception, research has not yet examined whether camp interventions improve self-perception among children affected by family violence. Camp-based interventions promote health equity by addressing common barriers to service engagement. Objective: Using a non-masked, parallel randomized controlled design, this pilot study evaluated whether a camp-based intervention (i.e., Camp HOPE) enhanced self-perception among youth exposed to family violence. Method: Participants included 47 children aged 7–12 (M = 9.55, SD = 1.63; 79% Black/African American) and one of their adult caregivers seeking services from a Family Justice Center. Children were assigned to the camp (n = 23) or waitlist control (n = 24) condition using block randomization. Caregiver-child dyads completed evaluations at baseline, 2-month follow-up, and 5-month follow-up. Children reported on three self-perception domains: Social Competence, Behavioral Conduct, and Global Self-Worth (GSW). Piecewise latent growth curve models evaluated between-group differences in self-perception at 2- and 5-month follow-up. Results: Findings from intent-to-treat analyses indicated that Camp HOPE may have a temporary, negative impact on children's GSW (Diff. = − 2.65; SE = 1.22; p = 0.029; g = 0.63). Supplemental "as-treated" analyses revealed no significant differences between children who attended and did not attend the camp. Conclusions: Results are inconsistent with previous findings that camp interventions enhance self-perception, raising important questions about the unique experiences of youth exposed to family violence. Adults with disabilities experience a lack of opportunity to participate in recreation and leisure (R&L) activities due to issues such as limited program availability. Overnight summer camps are a form of recreation where individuals can partake in several leisure activities while also gaining independence, developing connections, and providing respite care for caregivers. Camps offer numerous benefits for typically developing youth as well as youth with disabilities which can be applicable to adults with disabilities. This article examines a disability-specific overnight camp in Ontario from the perspective of eight staff members. Overall, participants perceived camp provided many opportunities for both staff and guests to develop meaningful connections and experience limitless possibilities when engaging in activities. Staff also felt camp experiences relied heavily on the people leading camp such as staff morale, staff training, and staff perceptions of upper management. Although the camp was beneficial, improvements could be made to better support guests and staff. Service providers should consider developing increased camp opportunities for adults with disabilities while considering suggestions for improvement as provided from this article. As part of the empirical survey, we worked with a deliberately selected set of 1,135 respondents who are interested in the work of Jaroslav Foglar. We sought an answer to the question of whether readers appreciate the importance of nature and camping and whether they also look for it in real life. Data were analysed through descriptive procedures and relational statistical analysis. In the context of other monitored variables, we managed to prove that apart from the story itself, camping and appreciating nature is an important area, which respondents also apply to their daily lives. An interesting finding was the relationship between the spiritual orientation of the respondents and the appreciation of the importance of nature. In recent years, individuals have increasingly sought out accommodation establishments that offer a close connection with nature. This trend is driven by a variety of factors, including a desire to escape the stresses of modern urban life and mitigate risks associated with epidemics. As a result, the popularity of glamping facilities has grown considerably. The lack of standards regarding glamping, which can be briefly called luxury camping, creates uncertainty in the tourism sector. In this study, it is aimed to determine the minimum standards that glamping establishments in Türkiye according to the point of view of domestic tourists. For this purpose, data were collected and analyzed by conducting semi-structured online interviews with participants who had at least one previous glamping experience. In the study, glamping establishments were evaluated in terms of room, bathroom, kitchen, common areas, location etc by glampers. According to this study, it would be appropriate for the glamping establishments in Türkiye to offer the facilities like a comfortable bed, free catering, air conditioning, bathroom, towels etc. that a tourist would need during their stay in their rooms, in a way that would combine the camping and luxury experience. In addition, it can be advantageous if they offer food and beverage opportunities, the food and beverages are predominantly organic, and the businesses are easily accessible, safe and located by the sea or in a forest location. Research has found a tendency for youth's psychological states to influence their friendship development, and vice versa. Whether this occurs among LGBTQ youth in the context of identity-affirming intervention programming has not been established. The current study provides a longitudinal assessment of self-esteem, depressive symptoms, and anxiety in a network of 238 youth ages 12 to 18 participating in a summer camp for young LGBTQ people. Results showed youth experienced significant increases in self-esteem and decreases in depressive symptoms and anxiety at camp. Peer proximity based on cabin assignment influenced youth's depressive symptoms over time. The network processes of peer selection and influence did not significantly affect psychological outcomes. Our findings highlight the impact of affirming programming on the self-esteem, depressive symptoms, and anxiety of LGBTQ youth and the influence of intervention-based proximity on youth's depressive symptoms over time. Summer campers often require access to medications. However, little is known about the types of medications administered in camps. We used a data set from a camp-specific electronic records system that contained all campers' medications. We developed a coding book and classified medications based on drug type, mechanism, and indication. Data were available on 163,853 medications from 75,072 campers. Health care providers need to be aware of the vast quantity and wide spectrum of medications dispensed in summer camps and should find opportunities to advocate for the adoption of best-practice safety guidelines to ensure the safety and well-being of campers. The COVID-19 pandemic completely upended the camping industry, posing unique and significant challenges to youth summer engagement experiences, with many camps choosing not to operate in the summer of 2020. These canceled programs resulted in staff layoffs and loss of revenue. Some state requirements necessitated camp closures, while other camps closed due to uncertainty about the ability to provide a safe, healthy camp experience that retained the essence of summer camp. The small portion of camps that did open were forced to be creative in how they offered programs. Some camps chose to run limited in-person programs, some offered family camps for family units, while others transitioned to virtual camp experiences. For these camps that did run in some capacity, several national organizations were able to gather data regarding operational challenges and benefits. Using document analysis, this project examined research findings from four national camp organizations. This cross-organizational analysis highlights the experiences of camps offering in-person summer programs and services in implementing nonpharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) to minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission in 2020. Camps used a variety of NPIs that involved both personal responsibility and community cooperation to create a camp experience that was socially distant and as sanitary as possible. This study also examines the experiences of camps offering virtual programs and services as a means to connect with individuals and support socialization needs of youth. These virtual programs varied widely, but all provided youth the opportunity to connect with like-minded campers and staff to have community building experiences despite isolation. In the context of many COVID-19 challenges, this study identifies positive benefits associated with operating camp in the summer of 2020. These unexpected positive impacts encompass health center operations, food service, programmatic changes, changes to the structure of camper units, and a shifting focus toward mental, emotional, and social health. Many of these positive outcomes are perceived by camp administrators as beneficial changes that will likely remain after the pandemic and continue to impact the camping industry for the foreseeable future. This study aimed to clarify the situation of light exposure and examine the relationship between light exposure and bedtime/wake-up time during school days (SD), holidays (HD), and a long-stay camp period (CP) in Japanese children. After data cleaning, the final subjects were 29 children (10.2 ± 1.2 years old, 25 boys and 4 girls) who participated in paid long-term camp programs in the summers of 2019 and 2021. Data on light exposure, bedtime, and wake-up time were collected. The results of the comparison of the total high-intensity light exposure (HLE) hours for each survey period confirmed that HLE was high before the 18:00 zone in CP, and that for SD and HD were high after the 19:00 zone. Furthermore, the longer the total HLE hours before the 18:00 zone and the shorter those after the 19:00 zone were significantly earlier with both bedtime and wake-up time. These findings indicate that daytime and nighttime light exposure in children's actual living environment is related to their bedtime and wake-up time, and that camping and going to school may be important factors to ensure children's adequate daytime light exposure. Mobile camping in a tent or vehicle is an increasingly popular way for tourists to experience place and movement as part of their leisure travel. Allowing tourists to save money, stay close to attractions, and maximise flexibility in their travel, camping provides a convenient accommodation option for domestic and international tourists alike. In the past, camping research has often been conceptualised using theories related to place. Contemporary camping can be interpreted as increasingly mobile in both the movement of people and information, which complements traditional conceptualisations of camping in the literature and in management approaches. Through 17 exploratory qualitative interviews with camping managers in the Mackenzie and Waitaki Districts of New Zealand, this research considered camping manager perspectives on the increasing mobility of camping in New Zealand. Qualitative analysis of these interviews, using Cresswell's mobilities concepts as a framework, revealed a dynamic camping landscape inextricably enmeshed with complex political meanings about campers and movement. The findings allow the characterisation of campers as Self-Sufficient Spenders, Basic Budgeters, and Kiwi Classics—each representing distinct profiles in relation to mobilities notions of rhythm and speed. Camping is a recreational activity that links people with their physical surroundings and the environment. Hence, efforts in promoting camping activities may help promote sustainable and accessible recreation and tourism. This research focuses on preferences and barriers for camping in Israel as perceived by frequent, occasional, and noncampers. The findings of an online study with 665 respondents show that focusing only on current campers may create self-selection bias and overlook the barriers that prevent people from camping. While noncampers shared some barriers with campers, they also experienced more barriers regarding information gaps (location of campsites) and camping equipment. All participants had a similar preference for solitude and lack of crowding. These findings create a dilemma for camping managers and marketing campaigns: to reduce the barriers that prevent low frequency campers and noncampers from camping or to keep the situation as is and minimize overcrowding in campsites. Stilt houses, also called pile dwellings, lake dwellings or palaphites are houses built on raised platforms. They can be built in a variety of locations, but are predominantly found in countries with tropical climates. This type of house is built primarily as protection against floods, but also as protection against wild beasts or enemies. The shaded space under the house can be used as a work space or as storage. Thus, they are usually built over water, but can also be built on sand or dry land. The materials used to build a house with stilts are wood, stone, and sometimes even mud, depending on the region where the house is located. In many places, stilt houses can be found in the countryside, but commercial and modern variations of these houses are also popular. Stilt houses come in a wide variety of styles. Old stilt houses are made with natural materials collected from the surrounding areas to create a basic structure, while some new houses are built nowadays using sophisticated materials and construction techniques. The aim of the paper is the analysis of wooden houses built on stilts from the perspective of two Asian cultures, as a source of inspiration for modern camping and glamping houses. Background: As the COVID‐19 pandemic emerged in the United States in the spring and summer of 2020, many organizations serving children and youth immediately faced significant operational and healthcare challenges. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance for the safe operation of youth programmes emphasized the importance of non‐pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs), yet few studies have examined NPI usage in summer programmes such as camps. Method: This sequential explanatory mixed‐methods study explored the utilization of NPIs among camp healthcare providers who completed an online questionnaire followed by one‐on‐one interviews. Results: The study findings indicated that camps consistently used a core set of NPIs to maintain and protect the health of camp participants, including screening, cohorting, hand hygiene, sanitizing practices, ventilation and physical distancing. The study findings further identified specific practices of camp healthcare providers that made NPI utilization possible, as exemplified in the emergent themes of wellness promotion; health awareness and modelling; and camp health service mobilization. Conclusion: NPI usage benchmarks from this study, as well as effective practices for NPI utilization, can inform the application of NPIs and other health‐promoting practices across diverse formal and informal youth settings. Drawing on nine months of ethnographic fieldwork with children and adults in an Urdu-speaking Bihari camp in Bangladesh, this paper critically explores the ambiguities, nuances, and messiness of children's everyday lives and the complex ways in which children negotiate and exercise their agency. With a critical and reflexive analysis of children's experiences in everyday lives, this paper aims to make a meaningful contribution to the knowledge of childhood and children's everyday lives in the majority world context by focusing on an under-researched minority within Bangladesh. Little research has evaluated how disclosure of an autism diagnosis influences peer engagement and understanding of children with autism in community recreation programs. This study describes outcomes of disclosing an autism diagnosis for a child with autism participating in mainstream, community summer camps. This case study includes a 9-year-old boy diagnosed with autism who participated in two camps, one in which he disclosed and one in which he did not disclose. Quantitative data on peer engagement states and reciprocal interactions were coded through structured behavioral observation of video recorded on the first, second, and last day of each program. Qualitative interviews about perceived outcomes of disclosure were completed with the child with autism, camp leaders, and peers in the disclosure camp. Peer engagement and reciprocal interactions improved following the disclosure protocol and continued to improve on the final day of the camp, which was not observed in the non-disclosure camp. A key qualitative theme revealed that changed behavioral attribution was the main contributor to improved inclusion following disclosure. This study provides preliminary data to support that disclosure may be a simple intervention to improve peer engagement and understanding of children with autism in community programs. Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder are at high risk of experiencing social exclusion, especially in community programs. A disclosure protocol (disclosure + explanation for behaviors) could be a simple intervention to facilitate peer acceptance and inclusion of children with autism, however this intervention has not been evaluated in a real life context. Background: Children and adolescents recovering from burn injury are at heightened risk of psychosocial problems. An integrative form of psychosocial intervention is burn camp. However, evidence about burn camp effectiveness is equivocal.Objectives: This study examined the role of therapeutic camp experiences in the recovery journeys of children and adolescents who had experienced burn injury and been treated in a tertiary pediatric hospital in Brisbane, Australia.Methods: Retrospective semi-structured interviews were conducted with youths and parents. Inductive reflexive thematic analysis was used with pooled interview data.Results: The participants were eight youths who attended at least one burns camp (between 2009 and 2019) and 15 parents of youth campers. An overwhelming majority (96%) reported a positive experience of camp, that they would return, and that they recommended the camp to other youth with burns. The four strengths of the camp experience were fun, adventurous activities; social relatedness (friendships, socializing); camp setting and experience; and acceptance. The four impacts of the camp on youth campers were normalizing ("I'm not the only one", shared experience); social support (making new friendships, social confidence, mentoring others); psychological recovery (happier, mentally stronger, more resilient, independence building); and confidence (increased self-confidence, increased social confidence, leadership development).Conclusions: Although this is the first known research about burn camp in Australia, the findings are similar to a handful of other qualitative studies about burn camp experiences and impacts. Recommendations include future research on aspects of camp experiences that contribute to targeted outcomes, the role of staff and previous camp participants as mentors, and comparisons with other psychosocial interventions for youth burn survivors. Despite popular interest in reality television, social media, and self-branding, much scholarship focuses on a single platform and places the burden of self-branding on the individual alone. Drawing on 6 years of research into the Real Housewives (RH) franchise and interviews with "Housewives," I focus on the women's performances of identity and self-branding across platforms. This article demonstrates that the women of RH become experts at working the system that exploits them via a form of labor I conceptualize as "emotional camping." Successfully branded "Housewives" tend to be (1) dedicated to Bravo, (2) inclined to present as walking GIFs on Instagram, and (3) seemingly authentic. I argue this self-branding strategy affords these women a semblance of privacy in their highly public careers. These findings are a critique of and feminist mediation into the legitimate labor reality stars do for networks and themselves across platforms. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We assessed the acceptability and effectiveness of a new childhood bereavement service known as Lionheart Camp for Kids. Using a pre-post-follow-up design, data pertaining to 12 bereaved children (aged 5–12 years) and their primary caregivers were obtained. Results showed that caregivers reported decreases in children's peer relationship problems, improvements in parental consistency, and reductions in coercive parenting, and there was a trend toward lower self-reported grief by the children. Caregivers were highly satisfied with the program. There is a need for a wait-list or randomized controlled trial over a longer time period to determine the full benefits of the camp. The trauma-related emotional and behavioral struggles of adopted children can affect the adoptive family system due to the emotional interdependence of families. To meet the needs of adoptive families, a two-weekend therapeutic family camp intervention was developed from an existing 2-3 week camp model for adopted children called Hope Connection®. The current study examined the preliminary effectiveness of the revised camp, Hope Connection 2.0, to address adoptive families' needs. A two-group (waitlist (n = 4 families) vs. intervention (n = 5 families)) pre-post design was used. The results indicated trending decreases in adopted children's trauma-related emotional and behavioral struggles and trending increases in parent-child relationship quality and family functioning. These findings support future research of the effectiveness of Hope Connection 2.0 to improve adoptive family outcomes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Nearly 30% of all U.S. youth attend summer camp each year, making it one of the broadest reaching out‐of‐school‐time interventions in the country. Camp provides a space for seasonal employees, who are often emerging adults, to explore work values and identity, engage in mentoring and support opportunities, and stay connected to a community larger than themselves. However, research on camp experiences also suggests camp settings and expectations around emotional and physical care can cause counselors to experience burnout, compassion fatigue, and reduced job satisfaction. Using participatory culture‐specific consultation, the current study addressed a gap in the literature about systemic interventions to manage camp counselor mental health by designing, implementing, and evaluating a mental health consultation model at one of the largest YMCA summer camps in the country. Results suggest the intervention effectively addressed certain administrator and staff needs; results also suggest the model could be refined to more effectively respond to the particular contextual challenges of summer camps. Objectives: This pilot study developed an adventure-based cognitive behavioral intervention (aCBI) program and tests its effectiveness in improving the mental health of Chinese university students in Hong Kong. Method: A total of 217 undergraduate students participated in an aCBI program in the form of an interdisciplinary general education course in a university in Hong Kong. A battery of standardized online questionnaires was administered to the students before joining and upon completion of the course, and at a 3-month follow-up test. Results: The participants showed a significant reduction of psychological distress, perceived stress, depressive symptoms, and negative thoughts and emotions and a significant increase of positive thoughts upon immediate completion of the program. The positive effects maintained at the 3-month follow-up test. Conclusion: The integration of cognitive behavioral intervention and adventure training in a class setting might be an effective and feasible approach for the mental health counseling of university students. Camp, historically a coded communication of queer identity has been recently dragged out of the closet and into the limelight with the exhibition "Camp, Notes on Fashion" (2019) at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. While a lot of the fashion that was on display was kitschy, and certainly fun and clever, some of it left the exhibition vulnerable to criticism that it was not actually Camp. Also, an exhibition like this while overtly very gay-positive brings up many issues about the packaging and presentation of queer culture. This essay involves a review of the exhibition itself as well as an examination of the criteria for inclusion or (sometimes deliberate) exclusion of key elements of Camp: the abject, consumerism, and queer liberation to name a few. As well as what self-appointed arbiter of Camp, Susan Sontag inadvertently communicated about her own conflicted relationship with what would eventually become queer culture in her 1964 Partisan Review essay "Notes on Camp," which formed the theoretical bedrock of this exhibition. Research methodology employs "grounded theory" which seeks to broaden the parameters of "data" to include ethical concerns and the voices of non-dominant groups, who are traditionally excluded from economic evaluations, and normative mainstream concerns. Research methods involve an experiential review of the exhibition itself, as well as a deeper exploration of the themes on display, and an analysis of visual rhetoric and elements of queer political theory that were brought up by this type of display within this venue. As the definition of Camp is political, contextual and in a state of constant evolution, the examination of this in a museum setting provides a rich locus for analysis from queer, visual culture and social theory perspectives. This report examines the opportunities for further development of agro and family tourism in the Ohrid region, taking into account the available advantages and disadvantages. The certain similarity of the considered territories gives an opportunity to transfer some good practices by the same way for the purpose to create a better tourist product and its management. It's made an attempt for a comparative analysis of accommodation, food, tourist attractions and related products, through which to look for points of contact between the two regions.
