Introduction: During tooth development, proper protein folding and trafficking are significant processes as newly synthesized proteins proceed to form designated tissues. Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress occurs inevitably in tooth development as unfolded and misfolded proteins accumulate in ER. 4-Phenylbutyric acid (4PBA) is a FDA approved drug and known as a chemical chaperone which alleviates the ER stress. Recently, several studies showed that 4PBA performs therapeutic effects in some genetic diseases due to misfolding of proteins, metabolic related-diseases and apoptosis due to ER stress. However, the roles of 4PBA during odontogenesis are not elucidated. This study revealed the effects of 4PBA during molar development in mice.Methods: We employed in vitro organ cultivation and renal transplantation methods which would mimic the permanent tooth development in an infant period of human. The in vitro cultivated tooth germs and renal calcified teeth were examined by histology and immunohistochemical analysis.Results and Discussion: Our results revealed that treatment of 4PBA altered expression patterns of enamel knot related signaling molecules, and consequently affected cellular secretion and patterned formation of dental hard tissues including dentin and enamel during tooth morphogenesis. The alteration of ER stress by 4PBA treatment during organogenesis would suggest that proper ER stress is important for pattern formation during tooth development and morphogenesis, and 4PBA as a chemical chaperone would be one of the candidate molecules for dental and hard tissue regeneration.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is an extracellular matrix (ECM)-rich carcinoma, which promotes chemoresistance by inhibiting drug diffusion into the tumor. Discoidin domain receptor 1 (DDR1) increases tumor progression and drug resistance by binding to collagen, a major component of tumor ECM. Therefore, DDR1 inhibition may be helpful in cancer therapeutics by increasing drug delivery efficiency and improving drug sensitivity. In this study, we developed a novel DDR1 inhibitor, KI-301690 and investigated whether it could improve the anticancer activity of gemcitabine, a cytotoxic agent widely used for the treatment of pancreatic cancer. KI-301690 synergized with gemcitabine to suppress the growth of pancreatic cancer cells. Importantly, its combination significantly attenuated the expression of major tumor ECM components including collagen, fibronectin, and vimentin compared to gemcitabine alone. Additionally, this combination effectively decreased mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP), thereby inducing apoptosis. Further, the combination synergistically inhibited cell migration and invasion. The enhanced anticancer efficacy of the co-treatment could be explained by the inhibition of DDR1/PYK2/FAK signaling, which significantly reduced tumor growth in a pancreatic xenograft model. Our results demonstrate that KI-301690 can inhibit aberrant ECM expression by DDR1/PYK2/FAK signaling pathway blockade and attenuation of ECM-induced chemoresistance observed in desmoplastic pancreatic tumors, resulting in enhanced antitumor effect through effective induction of gemcitabine apoptosis.

Trong phân tích thực phẩm, khối phổ là kỹ thuật được sử dụng ngày càng rộng rãi. Những năm gần đây thế giới chứng kiến sự ra đời của nhiều loại nguồn ion hóa mới ghép nối với khối phổ, chúng đã thay đổi cách mà các nhà khoa học phân tích thực phẩm. Nguồn ion hóa sử dụng vật liêu giấy để ion hóa mẫu và các biến thể tương tự khác của nó là những ví dụng thành công của nhóm các nguồn ion hóa mới này. Trong bài tổng quan này, những ứng dụng của nguồn ion hóa sử dụng giấy và các biến thể của nó trong việc kiểm soát thực phẩm với những mục đích khác nhau đã được trình bày. Những hạn chế vốn có và phương pháp khắc phục của kỹ thuật này cũng được bàn luận trong bài viết này. The purpose of this study is to investigate sociocultural factors accountable to English education in South Korea during the Sixth National Curriculum. By analyzing newspaper articles from two major newspapers, Donga Ilbo and Chosun Ilbo, we classified a total of 538 English education-related articles into five main categories: 1) General English education (or Non-school English education); 2) English learning medium; 3) Public English education; 4) Private English education, and 5) Korean and native English teachers. The Sixth National Curriculum period laid the foundation for the transformation of English education, such as the invitation of native English foreign teachers to enhance students’ communicative competence, the introduction of listening tests for the College Scholastic Ability Test, and the implementation of elementary English education. However, these top-down educational measures also provoked negative effects nationwide, including widening “English-divide” between social classes in Korea. Educational suggestions are also provided.

Biosignals such as electrocardiogram or photoplethysmogram are widely used for determining and monitoring the medical condition of patients. It was recently discovered that more information could be gathered from biosignals by applying artificial intelligence (AI). At present, one of the most impactful advancements in AI is deep learning. Deep learning-based models can extract important features from raw data without feature engineering by humans, provided the amount of data is sufficient. This AI-enabled feature presents opportunities to obtain latent information that may be used as a digital biomarker for detecting or predicting a clinical outcome or event without further invasive evaluation. However, the black box model of deep learning is difficult to understand for clinicians familiar with a conventional method of analysis of biosignals. A basic knowledge of AI and machine learning is required for the clinicians to properly interpret the extracted information and to adopt it in clinical practice. This review covers the basics of AI and machine learning, and the feasibility of their application to real-life situations by clinicians in the near future.

본 연구는 보건복지부 및 사회보장정보원의 협조를 얻어 수집한 2003~2014년의 장애인구의 행정데이터를 기반으로 장애인구 증감의 영향요인을 진단하고, 이행확률을 활용하여 건강 호전 및 악화시나리오를 가정하여 장애인구를 추계(2011~2014 데이터 활용)하였다. 그 결과 첫째, 우리나라 장애인구의 증감에는 사망자 수 뿐만 아니라 고령화 영향요인과 제도적 요인이 작용하여 장애인구에 영향을 미치고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 특히 ‘2000년 및 2003년 장애범주 및 시책 확대’, ‘2007년․2010년 장애판정체계 개편 및 의무 재판정 확대’ 등의 제도적 요인은 장애인구 중 신규가입자 수에 주요하게 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었다. 둘째, 이행확률을 활용하여 건강호전 및 악화시나리오에 의한 가정으로 장애인구를 추계한 결과, 건강호전 시나리오의 경우에는 2059년까지 2,109천명으로 감소하는 것으로 분석되었다. 이에 반해 건강 악화 시나리오의 경우 장애인구 수가 줄어들다 다시 늘어났다 다시 줄어들기 시작하는 것으로 나타났는데, 이는 고령자가 많은 인구구조가 반영되었기 때문으로 판단된다. 즉 장애인구 수는 2025년 2,450천명으로 감소하다가 2026년부터 2043년까지 2,527천명으로 증가하다가 다시 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 장애인구 추계는 장애인 서비스 대상자 규모의 예측과 욕구가 있는 대상자 발굴을 위한 것으로, 장애인복지정책을 수립하는 데 가장 기초가 되는 작업이다. 따라서 정책 결정자들은 이러한 다양한 모형과 시나리오에 따른 결과를 숙지하여 향후 장애인정책 결정에 있어 중요한 기초자료로 사용할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

In the analysis of food, mass spectrometry (MS) is one of the most universal and widely applied techniques. Recently, the outburst of the invention of several ambient ionization (AI) sources has innovated the way to conduct routine MS analysis in various fields, including food analysis. Paper spray ionization (PSI) is a representative example of AI methods that have been successfully coupled with a contemporary mass spectrometer. Our current work aims to summarize typical applications of PSI and the pertinent AI methods in diverse areas of food control, along with a discussion on their advantages and inherent limitations. Lastly, the prospects of these AI techniques for food control are presented.

본 연구는 실내 자유놀이 시간에 나타나는 유치원 교사의 놀이 개입을 구체적인 놀이 상황에 따라 두 가지의 놀이 양상으로 나누어 탐색하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 서울 지역에 위치한 Y사립유치원 만 5세 2학급의 담임 교사 2인과 유아 42명을 연구 참여자로 하여 총 20회의 참여관찰 및 면담을 통해 자료를 수집하였다. 연구 결과, 실내 자유놀이 시간의 놀이는 교사 계획에 의해 제시된 놀이상황과 유아 주도적인 놀이상황으로 나누어 살펴볼 수 있었으며 첫째, 교사 계획에 의해 제시된 놀이 시 교사 개입 유형은 적극적인 환경제공자, 역할 전환이 많은 공동놀이자, 방향성을 가진 놀이지도자로 나타났다. 둘째, 유아 주도적인 놀이 시 교사의 놀이 개입 유형은 즉흥적인 환경지원자, 역할을 탐색하는 공동놀이자, 함께 만들어 가는 놀이구성자, 의도하지 않은 놀이방해자로 나타났다. 본 연구는 구체적인 놀이 상황에 따른 교사의 놀이 개입 전략을 탐색함으로써 놀이 상황과 놀이 개입의 연관성에 대한 이해를 촉진하고 놀이 개입에 대한 이론적 기초와 함께 반성적 사고의 기회를 제공했다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

본 연구는 중국에 영어교육이 시작된 경위와 유교 전통에 따라 영어교육이 어떻게 중국에서 변화되어 갔는지 고찰하는 것이다. 본고는 중국 근대화 과정의 각종 정치사회적 사건들이 중국 영어교육에는 어떠한 파장을 일으켰으며 중국 민중들은 그러한 변화에 어떻게 대응했는지를 고찰하는 것이 주된 목표이다. 먼저 16세기에 최초의 영어 구사자들과 중국 상인들이 접촉한 경위와 그 후의 영어 교육 과정에 대해 설명한 후, 청 왕조 말엽, 중화민국 시기, 중화인민공화국 시기의 영어교육 상황에 대해 각각 서술한다. 이러한 시대적 격변은 중국의 영어교육에도 지대한 영향을 끼쳐왔는데, 1978년의 덩샤오핑에 의해 적극적으로 추진된 개혁개방 정책 이후, 영어교육은 중국 전역에서 점증하여 왔다. 본고에서는 최근 중국에서 절대 다수의 대학생들을 대상으로 시행되고 있는 대학영어시험(CET)의 명과 암에 대해서 서술하며, 더욱 최근의 영어권 국가 유학 후 귀국한 이른바 바다거북이(海龜) 청년들의 취업 상황을 중심으로 중국의 영어교육 현황에 대해서 서술한다.

This study analyzes English textbooks that were in circulation in the formation stage of the contemporary education system (from 1946 to 1954 when the First National Curriculum was founded in South Korea). The textbooks analyzed in this study are The National English Readers, written by Gim Sheon Gi. They comprise three books for the junior high level and three books for high school students. This study investigates the relevance of new vocabulary words, the readability levels of the text measured by Fry`s readability formula, and the grammar and content of each chapter across all six books. Analysis revealed the following: first, the number of new vocabulary words, and the readability levels of the books did not increase systematically across subsequent book levels; second, in textbooks Ⅰ, Ⅱ, and Ⅲ, elements of grammar were not introduced systematically based on constructed grammar rules but were instead introduced alongside the readings to which they were applied; and third, the genres of written content in textbooks Ⅳ, Ⅴ, and Ⅵ for high school students were significantly different from each other― textbook Ⅳ contained mainly descriptions, textbook Ⅴ contained mainly stories, and textbook Ⅵ contained mainly essays and poems. Several educational implications are presented at the end of this paper.
