During the last Argentine dictatorship (1976-1983) forms of social cohabitation, including particular modes of responsibility and resistance, were significant in their heterogeneity, both geographically and --even in the same city or town-- affectedly. This paper proposes to examine a European outpost of the Argentine state --which has a complex specificity due to its location in a foreign country--, to approach an insistent question in studies of the recent past: what were the relations between society and the regime? In more concrete terms: how, during seven years, did the residents live in a house directly affiliated to a dictatorial regime, yet located in France, under a democratic government which, during many years, maintained good relations with the last Argentine dictatorship? Which --and why-- were the core implications of this cohabitation, the particular interrelations between residents and the House authorities, the tactics adopted to endure everyday life while, four thousand miles away, the perceived exceptionality was itself quotidian and grounded in normality? One of this paper's hypotheses is that the category of neighbour is fertile territory upon which to think and respond to these questions. Indeed, an investigation of the Argentinean House in Paris facilities a synecdoche approach to the broader exploration of the notion of cohabitation between France and Argentina during the last dictatorship. In the context of a wider research, this article analyzes the first stage of Jesús Martín-Barbero's work, more precisely his writings in the 1970s, in order to recover his most significant contributions to the field of communication/education during that decade. The corpus of analysis is made up of Martín-Barbero's doctoral thesis entitled La palabra y la acción, finished in 1972, and two later books, Comunicación masiva: discurso y poder, written in 1978, and Comunicación educativa y didáctica audiovisual Elementos teóricos-metodológicos para la producción de ayudas audiovisuales didácticas, published a year later. The aim of this paper is to characterize these reflections, explain them, and systematize them in order to identify the points of continuity and rupture between those deliberations. This will in turn let us, on the one hand, establish the lines of research that will allow us to relate the other stages of the intellectual production of the author in this field and analyze the evolution of these first contribution, and, on the other hand, to evaluate to what extent these approaches and their subsequent developments and transformations can still be useful to investigate the phenomena related to communication/education in the present. The objective of this paper is to analyze how the process of the production of space is configured in the 'Nuevo Amanecer' settlement in the city of Santa Rosa (La Pampa). It is a form of popular urban habitat resulting from poverty, where a group of families work in brick kilns recycle elements from sanitary landfills and do household activities intended for consumption. For that purpose, some concepts from Henri Lefebvre's (1974) theory of space production are taken into account which two dimensions of spatial practice conceived by David Harvey (1998) - 'appropriation of space' and 'control/domination of space'. In this sense, emphasis will be placed on the factors that influenced the shaping of the settlement and the actions taken by the Municipality against the occupation of public lands reserved for installation of sanitary equipment. In this regard, we propose the existence of tension between the neighbours' practices/representations and those conceived from the State, making differential territorialities come into conflict. The methodology used in the paper combines non-participant observation, in-depth interviews with key informants, structured questionnaires and informal conversations with the neighbours of the place. In this paper we establish a relation between two Argentine entertainment programs. The first, a classic, pioneering television myth generator and the second a recent news program characterized by the involvement of celebrity guests to a turntable. The programs in question are Circular Saturdays and Saturday Bus. The route of the paper will attempt to draw a cross between two television products indicating not only the points of contact and formal and historical differences, but also the possibility of an analysis to review and propose a characterization of what significant limitation on the bodies. This article tries to delve into the relationship between the media and the political sphere. The paper analyzes the speech of the newspaper La Nación in the period between October 1, 2015 and the fifteen days following the triumph of the the argentinian political party Cambiemos, limiting the empirical reference to opinion columns and editorials. Is in those articles where we can find the senses that La Nación attributed to populism, this time embodied in the kirchnerismo. The work seeks to put into discussion some of the ideas of Ernesto Laclau and Pierre Bourdieu, understanding that they allow us to understand for the tensions that arise between the political field and the journalistic field, as well as to make visible the discursive practices put into play by the journalistic field, through which seeks to operate on the symbolic reality of society. Reading in EFL/ESL has been the target of several and varied research papers which try to account for the strategies readers use at the moment of decoding and understanding a written text. Many of these papers have had the aim of revealing what is behind the problems poor readers face, in order to provide appropriate help. The resulting reading models show different kinds of cognitive processes readers might go through at the moment of reading. These models have changed in the course of time since the nineteen sixties, and this has had its implications in the reading activities EFL/ESL textbooks offer. In this paper the most relevant reading models are discussed and the importance of interactive and schema theory models is highlighted, as these latter ones take into account the reading task in all its complexity, involving not only the linguistic notions necessary for the reader, but also the background knowledge related to the topic at hand, the context of situation in which texts are produced and interpreted, and the cultural and ideological models that are presupposed in every text. This paper focuses on the revision of the journalistic coverage given to the conflict caused by the Argentine troops' occupation of the South Atlantic Islands, which ended in an army contend with England, by the two main Spanish newspapers: El Pais and ABC. The paper highlights the implication that this confrontation had for Spain that was at the height of its democratization process. Not only did Spain have a close link with Argentina but it had also experimented a similar conflict in the Rock of Gibraltar. Besides, by the time of the conflict, the Spanish government had started an approaching strategy towards Europe, and was facing one of the first demonstrations against its decision to join the of N.A.T.O. Furthermore, the Argentine dictatorship had become a subject of preferential attention and damnation as a consequence of charges raised against its continuous violations to human rights. This paper analyzes some aspects related to the public debate about immigrant population and the construction of a national identity in Argentina during the first decades of the 20 th. century. Immigration, education and nationalism were the thee ideas which originated the debate on a possible model of country and constituted a field of tensions that covered the period of the great immigration wave. This paper will, in the light of these reflections, illustrate some of the features that these aspects acquired in a rural area. Southeast of the province of La Pampa the largest number of migratory population was farmed by groups of people who migrated from eastern Europe. The presence of Jewish colonies, such as the Narcisse Leven colony, meant the birth of debates on these groups which seemed to question the basis of the "Argentine Nationality". William Bulfin published his "Tales of the Pampas" in The Southern Cross until they were translated into Spanish by Alejandro Patrick Clancy in 1997. In his tales, Bulfin regained the "communal nostalgia" speech, which encouraged in the Irish the need to create a strong and closed community that could protect them against external dangers and maintain the existing ties with their homeland. In order to preserve the Irish identity, and with the firm conviction that the mother tongue strengthens the identity ties, the author made use of plain English, and so he exemplified the language used by the Irish immigrants to live and grow in Argentina. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the strategies used by Bulfin to "translate" the Irish culture into a powerful selective tradition through an ideologically coherent discourse. Compulsory high school education is a process that has been developing, with different characteristics, in some Latin American countries. In Mexico, the H. Congress of the Union modified the 3rd and 31st articles of the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States to extend compulsory education to high school from 2012. Although there is a growth of enrollment in this level of education, many young people do not attend high school or they interrupt their studies. With the purpose of describing some characteristics of this process in Mexico, I present reflections that emerged from a recently concluded research in dialogue with the current bibliography. It is a study that analyzes, from an ethnographic perspective, the accreditation of subjects in everyday life at Colegio de Bachilleres high school in Mexico City. We claim that the credit system is affected by a mandate that is present in current educational policies: to improve young people's indexes of access to school, enrollment, and passing courses in high school. The FCH at UNLPam is one of the first universities in the country to give signs of commitment regarding gender. Among these is the Interdisciplinary Institute of Women Studies, created in 1993. In 2008, UNLPam legislates for the use of non-sexist language when applied in the degrees granted. In 2010, in the view of the changes on the Teaching Studies curricula, an Integral Sexual Education Seminar was incorporated; and nowadays, Extracurricular and public lectures are given in the form of Cátedra Libre named Educación Sexual Integral y Derechos Sexuales y Reproductivos. It emerges along with the local forum for the rights to legal, safe and free abortion. The creation of this Chair reflects the interest in studying the complexities of the bodies, sexuality and gender in education, particularly at schools, as a socializing space in different levels. University functions are not only formative, but also being a central part in formulating public policies in education. This paper attempts to account for the articulation between the activism processes that have been taking place in the city and the accessibility found at the university decision- spaces. This paper is intended as an approximate analysis of the most important student magazine in UNLPam from 1982-1987. It proposes to examine University Magazine, one of the cultural productions with deepest roots consistency and involvement in the reconfiguration of the of the post-dictatorship student movement. University Magazine was a material and intellectual experience that brought a large group of students from the Faculty of Humanities together. It participated in the student scene as an instituting and rebellious instance against the disciplinarian effects that state terror had deployed in the social / cultural sphere since its inception as a de facto government. It was an experience which stood at a distance both from party organizations and the unions (student centers, federations, etc.), whose praxis became as an exemplary statute deployed as a multiplier space through art and culture in the vast field of social and popular struggle. This paper seeks to account for processes of communalization, which took and are currently taking place in the town of Miguel Riglos (La Pampa), paying special attention to the particular case of Eusebia Farías community. Before this, the text will review the conditions of their invisibility, which start by the late 19th century, and the form of occupation of the territory by these indigenous groups to account for the continuity of this population up to the present day. In Latin America, until the sixties and seventies, feminist theory focused on women in general, as an undifferentiated social category. From the eighties, "black women" o afro-descendent put on the agenda the need to understand how the intersection of social class, race and gender leads to common experiences but also differences in the fact of being women and, moreover, why gender, social class and race are constitutive of social inequality. In this paper we briefly review the historical construction of «the black» and propose a journey through the debates black women o afro-descendent installed within feminism. This paper takes analysis and reflection elements from the implementation of the new syllabus in the UNLPam English Professorship in the Practice Area. This Area becomes the cross curricular line in the teacher training courses, giving a new meaning to all the curricular spaces and a progressive participation to students in social and school contexts. This article studies the Area as a prefigurative practice. Prefigurative pedagogy could be defined as a group of practices that, from the beginning of the course of studies, anticipate future education. These activities -which are essentially political- are organized through the following fundamental dimensions: organization logistics, collective action, reflection on that action, and the participation of the people involved. The activities involve a qualitative methodology, which considers these practices from the voices and experiences of teachers and students that take place in them. This implies that the students start at the beginning of their training and continue all along their course, connecting disciplinary and pedagogical courses in the space of their future professional working areas, with permanent changes due to dynamic reflection. This should allow students to understand a way of construction that promotes and generates professional, democratic and cooperative training with a political stance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper is included in the framework of the research project Estudio del léxico en el habla del santarroseño (Primera etapa). After choosing the countryside as the first vocabulary domain and on the basis of the matrix survey, we have selected the most significant questions related to our search: which is the basic lexicon that freshmen at the Profesorado y Licenciatura en Letras at the UNLPam have in relation to the countryside. The corpus consists of 30 surveys carried out in 2009 amongst these students. On this first study, we will describe the words provided by the survey participants and we will analyze their recurrence. These objectives aim at identifying which words are more significant to our youngsters in relation to the countryside, and transversely, they will allow us to get closer to the levels of domain and knowledge that students have of an area that is supposedly constitutive of the pampean identity. The new millennium presents challenges regarding the analysis of contemporary migratory movements, which have been affected by the various social processes that occur in a globalized world. With the aim of exploring recent discourses of migration, cultural and postcolonial studies have developed categories such as 'refugee', 'exile', 'outcast', 'cosmopolitan', in order to refer to different types of contemporary migrants and to explain the configuration of their identities as a result of diasporic experiences. This paper intends to examine the impact of displacement in the construction of identity of the migrant characters in short stories by Irish author Colum McCann. Our research hypothesis is that the semantism of confinement comes to the surface in the web of our corpus --the contemporary political prisoners discourse and the Acts of the martyrs from the beginning of Christianity- by means of bundles of sense which have characteristics in common and generates either implicit or explicit speech marks which refer to confinement as a specific manner of institutional violence. At the same time, those marks crystallize in the body of the prisoner and tortured women. Language is considered to be a privileged medium in which meaning is produced and exchanged. It operates as a representational system, through which thoughts, ideas and feelings are represented in a particular culture. Cultural productions, such as literary works, have always been regarded as the key repositories of cultural values and meanings. It is in this context that we intend to analyse the representation of some aspects of the Argentine culture in Tales of the Pampas by Irish-born author William Bulfin, and to determine to what extent these representations compare with the same cultural aspects put forward in the Martín Fierro by Argentine author José Hernández. We will focus our analysis on the figure of the gaucho and the elements surrounding life in the Argentine countryside. Linguistic categorization refers to a mental process through which speakers differentiate in categories the world that surrounds them. Categorization, a concept already present in Aristotle, has been widely explored by linguistics, and some theories state that language imposes on users a set of categories as a result of the speakers' interaction between themselves and with the world and the general cognitive processes of concept formation (Taylor 1989). This paper tries to analyze the representations of teaching, that students from Basic General Education at the Teacher Training Institute in Santa Rosa and at the National University of La Pampa, have built. The research has a qualitative approach. The process starts collecting pictures and written considerations about what they think were the reasons that made them choose this profession. We have worked with 300 samples belonging to students from 2006, 2007 and 2008 that were analyzed with theoretical categories about their identification with the teaching role in three ways: the samples were taken from students in different moments of their studies; images were comparatively analyzed with the written discourse; the students came from two different institutions. Teaching representations were studied in written and drawn discourses trying to look for coherence; continuities and disruptions. These representations must be identified and analyzed to work for possible changes during training. We analyze in this paper the use of photography in the Catholic historiography of La Pampa in general, and we particularly focus on the production of a group of priests who, from the 1920s onwards, have built the 'official history' of the Catholic Church in the region. The works by Roberto Tavella (1924), Lorenzo Massa (1967), Cayetano Bruno (1983), and Roberto Tavella and Celso Valla (1974) belong in that construction, in which the photographs tend to empirically support what the written text strives to state: that the Church was a central component in the civilizing process of La Pampa. This paper shows some instances of the differences between the discourse politicians used to legitimate the educational reform in Argentina in the 1990s and the reality of schools by the time the Federal Law of Education was actually enacted and put into practice. These are based on a revision of magazine and newspaper articles on the specific area of technical schools. The construction of a clearly unauthentic "encouraging" framework was a tool which accompanied the implementation of the Federal Law of Education in a popular context that was in fact unfavourable to the changes proposed by the government. Education is an ideological activity which responds to theoretical, political, cultural, socioeconomic and historical circumstances. Thus neither pedagogical practices nor educational theories are neutral as both are firmly based on paradigmatic conceptions of man and on their worldviews. There is then a need to analyze both of them and their intertwining relationships in the light of philosophy, politics and education in order to carefully consider what their aims actually are. These goals give sense and meaning to Institutional Educational Projects (PEI, by its acronym in Spanish), which generally respond to the requirements of the Ministry of Culture and Education. This paper studies the philosophical foundations underlying the PEIs of the first and second levels at a Basic General Education school in General Pico, La Pampa, and provides a cogent interpretation of the anthropological idea that lies beneath such projects in order to generate an open space for debate and inquiry at an institutional level and to foster new proposals to improve educational practices in general. Even though competent analysis and accurate urban planning can provide short-medium term solutions to the infrastructural problems of the majority of urban areas, overpopulation, a lack of essential services and sundry sanitary deficiencies generally imply a low quality of life for the inhabitants of a medium-sized town. These problems are mostly determined by the social and economic level of town dwellers that should ideally be able to have access to vital services and satisfy basic needs such as food, clothing, health, education and recreation. This paper suggests that these variants are in narrow relation with each other and that the ways in which they come together ultimately decide the harmonious growth of a town and the improvement of its inhabitants' welfare. This paper explores the relationships between missionaries (either Franciscan and Salesian) and Indian groups who survived after the military campaigns of the late 1870's in the Pampas. It focuses especially on the role played by these missionaries in the integration of Indians into the Argentine 'nation' and in the 'Territorios Nacionales', performed through--among others--four kinds of tasks: a) registering births, deaths and marriages in collaboration with a poorly developed state, b) educating the main chiefs. sons and daughters in La Inmaculada school, away from their families, c) insisting on their abandoning of previous cultural patterns (such as polygamic matrimony), and d) promoting the Indian's identification with the "nation" in as many instances as possible. The aim of this paper is to compare the novel The Color Purple (1982) by the African American writer Alice Walker with its film version directed by Steven Spielberg (Warner Brothers Inc. 1985) from the perspective of poscolonial and cultural criticism. The comparison is based on an analysis of both artistic productions as vehicles of cultural transmission and it takes into account their narrative structures and the way in which they represent African-American identity. The differences in the codes used in literature and the cinema result in omissions and / or compressions of sections of the novel in the film version, which in turn produce differences between both works as agents of transmission of cultural identity. The comparison suggests that those omissions and / or compressions are mainly related to the role played by traditions and the knowledge of the past in the construction of cultural identity. The objective of this work was to search into a suitable methodology to examine the use and function of the vose forms preceding subjunctive constructions spoken in the city of Santa Rosa, La Pampa, Argentina. We believe most of the studies done in the use of vose forms have been biased by the researchers' selection of a suitable environment that would yield successful results attesting to the uses of vose forms by a variety of Spanish speakers. Pragma-linguistics aspects involved in the data collection process as well as the explanations about the origin of one linguistic form or the other have been generally omitted or scarcely hinted at. For the purpose of this paper, we have reviewed previous studies on the use of vose forms carried out in the rioplatense area to observe the methodology followed in the compilation of the corpus. This paper shows the results of a larger project on The curriculum in action and the role of text books which attempt to understand the processes of internalisation of knowledge from a epistemological and political perspective. The research material combines data collected from recorded material, class rolls, school folders, text books and interviews to school teachers. The subjects of the study are English and Math teachers of third level of the General Basic Education (GBE), and of the two post GBE level (Poly-modal) in Santa Rosa. The data for the analysis have been organized according to these areas: 1) Treatment of teaching contents, 2) Teachers' attitude towards contents, 3) Sources of information, 4) Teaching and learning activities. From the data analysis we observe that the school would neither help students to reconstruct acquired knowledge, nor would it lead them to use it consciously in their everyday life, losing the school its educational role. The procedural and conceptual contents analysed in all the cases show that the information overload -with a mailed fragmentation of content and alienated from the students' common experience-, are present in most text books. In this way, books do not contribute to structure a line of thought and lose their educational purpose. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper proposes a revision of the reactions of the Argentine catholic nationalists against the political stir that overtook Spain after Franco's death in November 1975 as they were expressed in their main press release in Argentina, Cabildo. Politically identified with the regime established by Franco after the Spanish Civil War, the Argentine catholic nationalists would reject any political process that might lead to the constitution of a democratic government. Our hypothesis is that, after November 1975, the Argentine nationalists elaborated an opposing press discourse summoning to the defense of the Spanish social order, which was being threatened by the transformations put into play. Juan José Hernández Arregui's attempt to define the concept of nation using both an objective as well as subjective theoretical approach places him as a representative of the literary trend called "cultural nationalism". In the present paper we argue that the author's limited conception of nation and nationalism was determined by his contradictory ideology and political commitment as evidenced in the controversial stances he assumed along his life: his religious faith and his indifference to the indigenous people's condition; his commitment to Marxism and his opposition to the workers' cause in the XX century; his support to the mass movement and to the Peronista cause as representative of the national values and his rejection of immigration. Different disasters have affected large populated areas, their assets and resources. In Argentina, the harmful effects of natural or man-made disasters have increased over time despite recent technological improvements. This paper proposes an analysis of methodology to be used in the various hazardous situations as a preventive integral measure by those governmental institutions in charge of lessening the negative impact these unexpected mishappenings have upon population. We attempt to explore the rate of vulnerability, exposure and uncertainty in social groups facing the effects of oil spills in the along the banks of the Río Colorado, namely, the area that extends from the city Rincón de los Sauces, Neuquen, to 25 de Mayo, La Pampa. In this paper we explore the ideological connections of parody and the intertextual webs among palimpsests. Petronius' Cena Trimalchionis reveals a parody resulting from a series of intertextual elements. Among the various hypotexts postulated as sources, we center our analysis on the Symposium by Plato to observe the ideological connections in the use of parody and the implicit intertextual relations. Between both discourses, Petronius' Cena Trimalchionis would' work as a reformulation of the Socratic dialogues. The reference to Socrates' philosophical ideas, and the hermeneutic separation between the author and his characters present an opposite image of idealism, where the freedman stands as the antithetic and inverted version of the Socratic hero. This paper analyses the form and arguments used by J. Escriche (Spain, XIXth Century) to interpret the female condition in law and the legal status of women as presented in his Diccionario razonado de legislación y jurisprudencia (1847). The concept of "gender" as an analytical category facilitated the posing of research questions and analysis of the judiciary voices involving women. These, in most cases, implied an unequal relationship between sexes. Law -- as a social construction -reflected this relationship and institutionalized a judiciary dependence of women towards men. Spaces, functions and judiciary possibilities were delimited for women. The result was that the female condition derived in a different judiciary status with -- in general -- more restricted rights, especially for married women. According to Escriche, biological sex distinction had incidence in the differences in behavior and character -- women were weaker, frailer, inexpert and less intelligent, prudent or constant than men. Consequently, social patterns, habits and activities were established for each sex, as well as markedly different ideals of femaleness and maleness. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper intends to describe the managing characteristics shared by schools of the first and second Basic General Education levels as a result of the implementation of the educational reform in La Pampa. To the purpose of this research, we analyzed the institutional guidelines set by headmasters and compared the conclusions stated in our previous research (1995-1999) with results from recent case studies. In most of the schools included in our sample we observed the recurrence of similar skewed contextual readings and managing practices. These particular managing styles reflect the principals' key role in the adaptation of the Institutional Educative Projects (IEP), requested by the central administration, to the different schools' needs. As a conclusion, we can say that, despite the institutional difficulties faced by those in charge of managing positions, the school headship is the possible space where to generate deconstructing and reconstructing policies via alternative projects and managing groups who can reconsider our institutional history and provide a new significance to the established educational practices. In this paper we reflect upon the particular characteristics present in our culture, which determine the brittleness of women's identity, so common in our society. The social imaginary, in terms of a universe of meaning, is inseparable from the issue of power. Once established, it requires legitimating systems, norms and sanctions as well as mythological supports, emblems and rituals in order to maintain it. Myths that operate through naturalization, timelessness, and the recurrence of their argumentative plots obtain their symbolical effectiveness by appearing in different places in the social texture. By creating totalizing narratives and shifts in meaning, which help to produce invisibilities by eliminating the opposite sense, myths put into play their symbolical violence. Within this pattern, we have reflected upon the categories gender difference can be thought We found that they are based on an attributive, binary and hierarchical logic that works in terms of analogies, comparisons and dichotomies. Such conditions lead to the absence of reversibility between the One and the Other, wherefore the Same becomes the Only One, weakening the possibilities for women's identification. This paper is an attempt to look into the visibility of women and their link with the Peronista government during its first two administrations (1946-1952 and 1952-1955). We focus our analysis on the relationship many women established with Eva Perón during their participation in the Peronista political organization. Following the methodology of oral history, we collected data via personal interviews to a Peronista woman related to the Eva Perón Foundation. Through her reports we have been able to visualize social practices that helped us understand the function of this institution beyond the scope of discourse. In this sense, we were able to reconstruct a Peronista woman's working and political path, her social representations regarding the figure of Eva Peron and the changes that signaled a crucial period in women's history: the implementation of the feminine vote.
