A new oleanane derivative, 3β-acetyloleana-5,12-dien-2,23-diol ( 1), and a new lupane compound, lup-11,20(29)-dien-3 β,28-diol ( 2), together with eight known compounds, oleana-5,12-dien-3β-yl acetate ( 3), lup-5,20(29)-dien-3 β -yl acetate ( 4), 18-methylethylnonadecan-19-oic-9-enoate ( 6), octadecane ( 5), cis-pentadec-7-enoic acid ( 7), cis-tetradec-7,10-dienoic acid ( 8), cholest-4-en-3-one ( 9), and stigmasterol ( 10), were isolated from the leaves of Alafia barteri. Their structures were elucidated by IR, 1D and 2D NMR, and mass spectroscopy. Compounds 7 and 8 exhibited cytotoxic activities against K562, WRL, and MCF-7 tumor cell lines with IC in the range of 8.80 to 37.10 μg/mL, while compounds 2 and 9 suppressed the viability of K562 cells with IC of 120.2 and 14.48 μg/mL. A new lupane-type triterpene, named 7 α,11 β-dihydroxy-2,3- seco-lup-12(13),20(29)-diene-2,3,28-trioic acid ( 1), along with 5 other known lupane-type triterpenoids, namely 3 β-hydroxy-lup-20(29)-ene-23,28-dioic acid ( 2), betulinic acid ( 3), betulinic acid 3-O-sulfate ( 4), 12(13)-ene betulinic acid ( 5), and betulinic acid glucoside ( 6), was isolated from Schefflera octophylla stems and leaves. The individual group compositions of hydroxycinnamic acid derivatives, flavonoids, terpenoids, fatty acids, and hydrocarbons from Betula pendula leaves during early leaf development were studied using GC-MS and HPLC. The contents of biologically active compounds varied considerably during observation for 20 d after leaf emergence. It was shown that the dynamics of antifeedant triterpenoid contents correlated with the dynamics of L. dispar caterpillar deaths during the study period. A spectrophotometric method using a dual-wavelength Firordt method that enabled simultaneous determination of the flavonoid and phenolic-acid contents was developed for quantitative analysis of phenolic compounds in Mentha piperita L. (Lamiaceae) leaves. Hesperidin and rosmaric acid were used as standards. The optimal extraction parameters of the phenolic compounds were determined. Metrological analysis of the developed method was performed. It was found that the determination error of the analyzed classes of compounds was less than 3%.
