The article observes that the U.S. armed services are serious in tackling the problem of sexual assaults, as evidenced by the dinner hosted by Marine Corps Commandant General James F. Amos with a handful of lawmakers over the summer of 2012. An estimated 19,000 service members are victims of rape or sexual assault each year. The article also mentions that lawmakers and advocates view the issue of prosecution as key to changing attitudes in the U.S. military sector.
