In this paper, we present a novel model for simultaneous stable co-saliency detection (CoSOD) and object co-segmentation (CoSEG). To detect co-saliency (segmentation) accurately, the core problem is to well model inter-image relations between an image group. Some methods design sophisticated modules, such as recurrent neural network (RNN), to address this problem. However, order-sensitive problem is the major drawback of RNN, which heavily affects the stability of proposed CoSOD (CoSEG) model. In this paper, inspired by RNN-based model, we first propose a multi-path stable recurrent unit (MSRU), containing dummy orders mechanisms (DOM) and recurrent unit (RU). Our proposed MSRU not only helps CoSOD (CoSEG) model captures robust inter-image relations, but also reduces order-sensitivity, resulting in a more stable inference and training process. Moreover, we design a cross-order contrastive loss (COCL) that can further address order-sensitive problem by pulling close the feature embedding generated from different input orders. We validate our model on five widely used CoSOD datasets (CoCA, CoSOD3k, Cosal2015, iCoseg and MSRC), and three widely used datasets (Internet, iCoseg and PASCAL-VOC) for object co-segmentation, the performance demonstrates the superiority of the proposed approach as compared to the state-of-the-art (SOTA) methods. Accurate retinal fluid segmentation on Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) images plays an important role in diagnosing and treating various eye diseases. The art deep models have shown promising performance on OCT image segmentation given pixel-wise annotated training data. However, the learned model will achieve poor performance on OCT images that are obtained from different devices (domains) due to the domain shift issue. This problem largely limits the real-world application of OCT image segmentation since the types of devices usually are different in each hospital. In this paper, we study the task of cross-domain OCT fluid segmentation, where we are given a labeled dataset of the source device (domain) and an unlabeled dataset of the target device (domain). The goal is to learn a model that can perform well on the target domain. To solve this problem, in this paper, we propose a novel Structure-guided Cross-Attention Network (SCAN), which leverages the retinal layer structure to facilitate domain alignment. Our SCAN is inspired by the fact that the retinal layer structure is robust to domains and can reflect regions that are important to fluid segmentation. In light of this, we build our SCAN in a multi-task manner by jointly learning the retinal structure prediction and fluid segmentation. To exploit the mutual benefit between layer structure and fluid segmentation, we further introduce a cross-attention module to measure the correlation between the layer-specific feature and the fluid-specific feature encouraging the model to concentrate on highly relative regions during domain alignment. Moreover, an adaptation difficulty map is evaluated based on the retinal structure predictions from different domains, which enforces the model focus on hard regions during structure-aware adversarial learning. Extensive experiments on the three domains of the RETOUCH dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method and show that our approach produces state-of-the-art performance on cross-domain OCT fluid segmentation. This paper aims at proposing a novel 2D non-linear phase decomposition of images, which performs the image processing tasks better than the traditional Fourier transformation (linear phase decomposition), but further, it has additional mathematical properties allowing more effective image analysis, including adaptive decomposition components and positive instantaneous phase derivatives. 1D unwinding Blaschke decomposition has recently been proposed and studied. Through factorization it expresses arbitrary 1D signal into an infinite linear combination of Blaschke products. It offers fast converging positive frequency decomposition in the form of rational approximation. However, in the multi-dimensional cases, the usual factorization mechanism does not work. As a consequence, there is no genuine unwinding decomposition for multi-dimensions. In this paper, a 2D partial unwinding decomposition based on algebraic transforms reducing multi-dimensions to the 1D case is proposed and analyzed. The result shows that the fast convergence offers efficient image reconstruction. The tensor type decomposing terms are mutually orthogonal, giving rise to 2D positive frequency decomposition. The comparison results show that the proposed method outperforms the standard greedy algorithm and the most commonly used methods in the Fourier category. The vanilla Few-shot Learning (FSL) learns to build a classifier for a new concept from one or very few target examples, with the general assumption that source and target classes are sampled from the same domain. Recently, the task of Cross-Domain Few-Shot Learning (CD-FSL) aims at tackling the FSL where there is a huge domain shift between the source and target datasets. Extensive efforts on CD-FSL have been made via either directly extending the meta-learning paradigm of vanilla FSL methods, or employing massive unlabeled target data to help learn models. In this paper, we notice that in the CD-FSL task, the few labeled target images have never been explicitly leveraged to inform the model in the training stage. However, such a labeled target example set is very important to bridge the huge domain gap. Critically, this paper advocates a more practical training scenario for CD-FSL. And our key insight is to utilize a few labeled target data to guide the learning of the CD-FSL model. Technically, we propose a novel Generalized Meta-learning based Feature-Disentangled Mixup network, namely GMeta-FDMixup. We make three key contributions of utilizing GMeta-FDMixup to address CD-FSL. Firstly, we present two mixup modules – mixup-P and mixup-M that help facilitate utilizing the unbalanced and disjoint source and target datasets. These two novel modules enable diverse image generation for training the model on the source domain. Secondly, to narrow the domain gap explicitly, we contribute a novel feature disentanglement module that learns to decouple the domain-irrelevant and domain-specific features. By stripping the domain-specific features, we alleviate the negative effects caused by the domain inductive bias. Finally, we repurpose a new contrastive learning module, dubbed ConL. ConL prevents the model from only capturing category-related features via introducing contrastive loss. Thus, the generalization ability on novel categories is improved. Previous 2D saliency detection methods extract salient cues from a single view and directly predict the expected results. Both traditional and deep-learning-based 2D methods do not consider geometric information of 3D scenes. Therefore the relationship between scene understanding and salient objects cannot be effectively established. This limits the performance of 2D saliency detection in challenging scenes. In this paper, we show for the first time that saliency detection problem can be reformulated as two sub-problems: light field synthesis from a single view and light-field-driven saliency detection. This paper first introduces a high-quality light field synthesis network to produce reliable 4D light field information. Then a novel light-field-driven saliency detection network is proposed, in which a Direction-specific Screening Unit (DSU) is tailored to exploit the spatial correlation among multiple viewpoints. The whole pipeline can be trained in an end-to-end fashion. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms the state-of-the-art 2D, 3D and 4D saliency detection methods. Extracting robust and discriminative local features from images plays a vital role for long term visual localization, whose challenges are mainly caused by the severe appearance differences between matching images due to the day-night illuminations, seasonal changes, and human activities. Existing solutions resort to jointly learning both keypoints and their descriptors in an end-to-end manner, leveraged on large number of annotations of point correspondence which are harvested from the structure from motion and depth estimation algorithms. While these methods show improved performance over non-deep methods or those two-stage deep methods, i.e., detection and then description, they are still struggled to conquer the problems encountered in long term visual localization. Since the intrinsic semantics are invariant to the local appearance changes, this paper proposes to learn semantic-aware local features in order to improve robustness of local feature matching for long term localization. Based on a state of the art CNN architecture for local feature learning, i.e., ASLFeat, this paper leverages on the semantic information from an off-the-shelf semantic segmentation network to learn semantic-aware feature maps. The learned correspondence-aware feature descriptors and semantic features are then merged to form the final feature descriptors, for which the improved feature matching ability has been observed in experiments. In addition, the learned semantics embedded in the features can be further used to filter out noisy keypoints, leading to additional accuracy improvement and faster matching speed. Experiments on two popular long term visual localization benchmarks (Aachen Day and Night v1.1, Robotcar Seasons) and one challenging indoor benchmark (InLoc) demonstrate encouraging improvements of the localization accuracy over its counterpart and other competitive methods. Multiview video coding (MVC) aims to compress the multiview video through the elimination of video redundancies, where the quality of the reference frame directly affects the compression efficiency. In this paper, we propose a deep virtual reference frame generation method based on a disparity-aware reference frame generation network (DAG-Net) to transform the disparity relationship between different viewpoints and generate a more reliable reference frame. The proposed DAG-Net consists of a multi-level receptive field module, a disparity-aware alignment module, and a fusion reconstruction module. First, a multi-level receptive field module is designed to enlarge the receptive field, and extract the multi-scale deep features of the temporal and inter-view reference frames. Then, a disparity-aware alignment module is proposed to learn the disparity relationship, and perform disparity shift on the inter-view reference frame to align it with the temporal reference frame. Finally, a fusion reconstruction module is utilized to fuse the complementary information and generate a more reliable virtual reference frame. Recent developments in the field of non-local attention (NLA) have led to a renewed interest in self-similarity-based single image super-resolution (SISR). Researchers usually use the NLA to explore non-local self-similarity (NSS) in SISR and achieve satisfactory reconstruction results. However, a surprising phenomenon that the reconstruction performance of the standard NLA is similar to that of the NLA with randomly selected regions prompted us to revisit NLA. In this paper, we first analyzed the attention map of the standard NLA from different perspectives and discovered that the resulting probability distribution always has full support for every local feature, which implies a statistical waste of assigning values to irrelevant non-local features, especially for SISR which needs to model long-range dependence with a large number of redundant non-local features. Based on these findings, we introduced a concise yet effective soft thresholding operation to obtain high-similarity-pass attention (HSPA), which is beneficial for generating a more compact and interpretable distribution. Furthermore, we derived some key properties of the soft thresholding operation that enable training our HSPA in an end-to-end manner. The HSPA can be integrated into existing deep SISR models as an efficient general building block. In addition, to demonstrate the effectiveness of the HSPA, we constructed a deep high-similarity-pass attention network (HSPAN) by integrating a few HSPAs in a simple backbone. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that HSPAN outperforms state-of-the-art approaches on both quantitative and qualitative evaluations. How to model the effect of reflection is crucial for single image reflection removal (SIRR) task. Modern SIRR methods usually simplify the reflection formulation with the assumption of linear combination of a transmission layer and a reflection layer. However, the large variations in image content and the real-world picture-taking conditions often result in far more complex reflection. In this paper, we introduce a new screen-blur combination based on two important factors, namely the intensity and the blurriness of reflection, to better characterize the reflection formulation in SIRR. Specifically, we present Screen-blur Reflection Networks (SRNet), which executes the screen-blur formulation in its network design and adapts to the complex reflection on real scenes. Technically, SRNet consists of three components: a blended image generator, a reflection estimator and a reflection removal module. The image generator exploits the screen-blur combination to synthesize the training blended images. The reflection estimator learns the reflection layer and a blur degree that measures the level of blurriness for reflection. The reflection removal module further uses the blended image, blur degree and reflection layer to filter out the transmission layer in a cascaded manner. Superior results on three different SIRR methods are reported when generating the training data on the principle of the screen-blur combination. Efficient point cloud compression is essential for applications like virtual and mixed reality, autonomous driving, and cultural heritage. This paper proposes a deep learning-based inter-frame encoding scheme for dynamic point cloud geometry compression. We propose a lossy geometry compression scheme that predicts the latent representation of the current frame using the previous frame by employing a novel feature space inter-prediction network. The proposed network utilizes sparse convolutions with hierarchical multiscale 3D feature learning to encode the current frame using the previous frame. The proposed method introduces a novel predictor network for motion compensation in the feature domain to map the latent representation of the previous frame to the coordinates of the current frame to predict the current frame’s feature embedding. The framework transmits the residual of the predicted features and the actual features by compressing them using a learned probabilistic factorized entropy model. At the receiver, the decoder hierarchically reconstructs the current frame by progressively rescaling the feature embedding. The proposed framework is compared to the state-of-the-art Video-based Point Cloud Compression (V-PCC) and Geometry-based Point Cloud Compression (G-PCC) schemes standardized by the Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG). The proposed method achieves more than 88% BD-Rate (Bjøntegaard Delta Rate) reduction against G-PCCv20 Octree, more than 56% BD-Rate savings against G-PCCv20 Trisoup, more than 62% BD-Rate reduction against V-PCC intra-frame encoding mode, and more than 52% BD-Rate savings against V-PCC P-frame-based inter-frame encoding mode using HEVC. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) rely on satellite systems for stable positioning. However, due to limited satellite coverage or communication disruptions, UAVs may lose signals for positioning. In such situations, vision-based techniques can serve as an alternative, ensuring the self-positioning capability of UAVs. However, most of the existing datasets are developed for the geo-localization task of the objects captured by UAVs, rather than UAV self-positioning. Furthermore, the existing UAV datasets apply discrete sampling to synthetic data, such as Google Maps, neglecting the crucial aspects of dense sampling and the uncertainties commonly experienced in practical scenarios. To address these issues, this paper presents a new dataset, DenseUAV, that is the first publicly available dataset tailored for the UAV self-positioning task. DenseUAV adopts dense sampling on UAV images obtained in low-altitude urban areas. In total, over 27K UAV- and satellite-view images of 14 university campuses are collected and annotated. In terms of methodology, we first verify the superiority of Transformers over CNNs for the proposed task. Then we incorporate metric learning into representation learning to enhance the model’s discriminative capacity and to reduce the modality discrepancy. Besides, to facilitate joint learning from both the satellite and UAV views, we introduce a mutually supervised learning approach. Last, we enhance the Recall@K metric and introduce a new measurement, SDM@K, to evaluate both the retrieval and localization performance for the proposed task. As a result, the proposed baseline method achieves a remarkable Recall@1 score of 83.01% and an SDM@1 score of 86.50% on DenseUAV. This paper focuses on the facial micro-expression (FME) generation task, which has potential application in enlarging digital FME datasets, thereby alleviating the lack of training data with labels in existing micro-expression datasets. Despite obvious progress in the image animation task, FME generation remains challenging because existing image animation methods can hardly encode subtle and short-term facial motion information. To this end, we present a facial-prior-guided FME generation framework that takes advantage of facial priors for facial motion generation. Specifically, we first estimate the geometric locations of action units (AUs) with detected facial landmarks. We further calculate an adaptive weighted prior (AWP) map, which alleviates the estimation error of AUs while efficiently capturing subtle facial motion patterns. To achieve smooth and realistic synthesis results, we use our proposed facial prior module to guide motion representation and generation modules in mainstream image animation frameworks. Extensive experiments on three benchmark datasets consistently show that our proposed facial prior module can be adopted in image animation frameworks and significantly improve their performance on micro-expression generation. Moreover, we use the generation technique to enlarge existing datasets, thereby improving the performance of general action recognition backbones on the FME recognition task. Effectively evaluating the perceptual quality of dehazed images remains an under-explored research issue. In this paper, we propose a no-reference complex-valued convolutional neural network (CV-CNN) model to conduct automatic dehazed image quality evaluation. Specifically, a novel CV-CNN is employed that exploits the advantages of complex-valued representations, achieving better generalization capability on perceptual feature learning than real-valued ones. To learn more discriminative features to analyze the perceptual quality of dehazed images, we design a dual-stream CV-CNN architecture. The dual-stream model comprises a distortion-sensitive stream that operates on the dehazed RGB image, and a haze-aware stream on a novel dark channel difference image. The distortion-sensitive stream accounts for perceptual distortion artifacts, while the haze-aware stream addresses the possible presence of residual haze. Experimental results on three publicly available dehazed image quality assessment (DQA) databases demonstrate the effectiveness and generalization of our proposed CV-CNN DQA model as compared to state-of-the-art no-reference image quality assessment algorithms. Most researchers focus on designing accurate crowd counting models with heavy parameters and computations but ignore the resource burden during the model deployment. A real-world scenario demands an efficient counting model with low-latency and high-performance. Knowledge distillation provides an elegant way to transfer knowledge from a complicated teacher model to a compact student model while maintaining accuracy. However, the student model receives the wrong guidance with the supervision of the teacher model due to the inaccurate information understood by the teacher in some cases. In this paper, we propose a dual-knowledge distillation (DKD) framework, which aims to reduce the side effects of the teacher model and transfer hierarchical knowledge to obtain a more efficient counting model. First, the student model is initialized with global information transferred by the teacher model via adaptive perspectives. Then, the self-knowledge distillation forces the student model to learn the knowledge by itself, based on intermediate feature maps and target map. Specifically, the optimal transport distance is utilized to measure the difference of feature maps between the teacher and the student to perform the distribution alignment of the counting area. Extensive experiments are conducted on four challenging datasets, demonstrating the superiority of DKD. When there are only approximately 6% of the parameters and computations from the original models, the student model achieves a faster and more accurate counting performance as the teacher model even surpasses it. Small moving objects at far distance always occupy only one or a few pixels in image and exhibit extremely limited visual features, which bring great challenges to motion detection. Highly evolved visual systems endow flying insects with remarkable ability to pursue tiny mates and prey, providing a good template to develop image processing method for small target motion detection. The insects’ excellent sensitivity to small moving objects is believed to come from a class of specific neurons called small target motion detectors (STMDs). However, existing STMD-based methods often experience performance degradation when coping with complex natural scenes. In this paper, we propose a bio-inspired visual system with spatio-temporal feedback mechanism (called Spatio-Temporal Feedback STMD) to suppress false positive background movement while enhancing system responses to small targets. Specifically, the proposed visual system is composed of two complementary subnetworks and a feedback loop. The first subnetwork is designed to extract spatial and temporal movement patterns of cluttered background by neuronal ensemble coding. The second subnetwork is developed to capture small target motion information where its output and signal from the first subnetwork are integrated together via the feedback loop to filter out background false positives in a recurrent manner. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed spatio-temporal feedback visual system is more competitive than existing methods in discriminating small moving targets from complex natural environments. We present an approach to extend the functionality and the use of kernel machines in image processing applications. We introduce a novel way to design spatial kernel machines with spatial properties and demonstrate how those newly introduced spatial properties enhance the possibilities of the use of kernel machines in image processing applications as a proof of concept. In this paper, we demonstrate four particular extensions: 1) how to model shapes efficiently with spatially computed kernel parameters in a geometrically scalable way; 2) how to visualize the kernel parameters precisely and intuitively on binary 2D shapes; 3) how to construct a one-class classifier from the binary classifier in a straightforward manner without re-training; and 4) how to use the computed kernel parameters for filtering. The existing literature on kernel machines mostly focuses on estimating the optimal kernel parameters via additional cost function(s). In this paper, instead of employing an additional cost function to estimate the kernel-related parameters, we investigate on an analytical solution to predict the actual kernel parameters locally and show how to build a spatial kernel machine with our analytical approach. Classical kernel machines do not perform well on precise shape modeling with a low number of support vectors as demonstrated in this paper. However, we demonstrate and visualize that our analytical approach provides a natural means to relate the kernel parameters to the 2D shapes for sparse shape modeling, where the shape boundary represents the decision boundary. For that, we incorporate the selected kernel function’s geometric properties as an additional constraint into the classifier’s optimization problem by defining an easy-to-explain and intuitive concept: similarity domains. In our experiments, we study and demonstrate how the resulting new kernel machine enhances the capabilities of the classical kernel machines with applications on shape modeling, (geometrically) scaling the non-linear decision boundary at various scales and precise visualization of the kernel parameters in 2D images. An improved and extended version of a quaternion-based lossless encryption technique for digital image and communication on medicine (DICOM) images is proposed. We highlight and address several security flaws present in the previous version of the algorithm originally proposed by Dzwonkowski et al. (2015). The newly proposed secure quaternion Feistel cipher (S-QFC) algorithm retains the concept of a modified Feistel network with modular arithmetic and the use of special properties of quaternions to perform rotations of data sequences in 3D space for each of the cipher rounds. A new and more secure key generation scheme based on quaternion Julia sets is utilized. We also introduce both-sided modular matrix multiplications for the encryption and decryption processes. The proposed S-QFC algorithm eliminates the major security flaws of its predecessor while maintaining high computation speed in comparison to other algorithms originally embedded in DICOM (i.e., advanced encryption standard and triple data encryption standard). Passive non-line-of-sight (NLOS) imaging has drawn great attention in recent years. However, all existing methods are in common limited to simple hidden scenes, low-quality reconstruction, and small-scale datasets. In this paper, we propose NLOS-OT, a novel passive NLOS imaging framework based on manifold embedding and optimal transport, to reconstruct high-quality complicated hidden scenes. NLOS-OT converts the high-dimensional reconstruction task to a low-dimensional manifold mapping through optimal transport, alleviating the ill-posedness in passive NLOS imaging. Besides, we create the first large-scale passive NLOS imaging dataset, NLOS-Passive, which includes 50 groups and more than 3,200,000 images. NLOS-Passive collects target images with different distributions and their corresponding observed projections under various conditions, which can be used to evaluate the performance of passive NLOS imaging algorithms. It is shown that the proposed NLOS-OT framework achieves much better performance than the state-of-the-art methods on NLOS-Passive. We believe that the NLOS-OT framework together with the NLOS-Passive dataset is a big step and can inspire many ideas towards the development of learning-based passive NLOS imaging. Total variation (TV) is a one of the most popular regularizers for stabilizing the solution of ill-posed inverse problems. This paper proposes a novel proximal-gradient algorithm for minimizing TV regularized least-squares cost functionals. Unlike traditional methods that require nested iterations for computing the proximal step of TV, our algorithm approximates the latter with several simple proximals that have closed form solutions. We theoretically prove that the proposed parallel proximal method achieves the TV solution with arbitrarily high precision at a global rate of converge that is equivalent to the fast proximal-gradient methods. Unsupervised person re-identification (re-ID) remains a challenging task. While extensive research has focused on the framework design and loss function, this paper shows that sampling strategy plays an equally important role. We analyze the reasons for the performance differences between various sampling strategies under the same framework and loss function. We suggest that deteriorated over-fitting is an important factor causing poor performance, and enhancing statistical stability can rectify this problem. Inspired by that, a simple yet effective approach is proposed, termed group sampling, which gathers samples from the same class into groups. The model is thereby trained using normalized group samples, which helps alleviate the negative impact of individual samples. Group sampling updates the pipeline of pseudo-label generation by guaranteeing that samples are more efficiently classified into the correct classes. It regulates the representation learning process, enhancing statistical stability for feature representation in a progressive fashion. Extensive experiments on Market-1501, DukeMTMC-reID and MSMT17 show that group sampling achieves performance comparable to state-of-the-art methods and outperforms the current techniques under purely camera-agnostic settings. Aiming at the complex computation and time-consuming problem during unordered image stitching, we present a method based on the binary tree and the estimated overlapping areas to stitch images without order in this paper. For image registration, the overlapping areas between input images are estimated, so that the extraction and matching of feature points are only performed in these areas. For image stitching, we build a model of the binary tree to stitch each two matched images without sorting. Compared to traditional methods, our method significantly reduces the computational time of matching irrelevant image pairs and improves the efficiency of image registration and stitching. Moreover, the stitching model of the binary tree proposed in this paper further reduces the distortion of the panorama. Experimental results show that the number of extracted feature points in the estimated overlapping area is approximately 0.3~0.6 times of that in the entire image by using the same method, which greatly reduces the computational time of feature extraction and matching. In a companion Part I paper, we presented a framework for analyzing robustness of color control functions (CCFs) for multiprimary displays against primary and observer variations and proposed a variational minimization for obtaining robust CCFs. The objective function proposed in the Part I paper combines two nonnegative terms that serve as useful figures of merit for quantitatively characterizing CCFs. The first term measures lack of smoothness of the CCFs and characterizes how well transitions in perceptual color space are preserved in the presence of the primary/observer variations. The second term measures deviation of the CCF, in the vicinity of the gray axis, from a specific axially linear CCF that provides perceptual invariance to the variations along the gray axis. In this paper, using calculus of variations, we develop an algorithm for numerically computing optimal CCFs under the proposed variational formulation. Using the proposed algorithm, we determine optimal CCFs for a several multiprimary display designs and assess and compare their performance against alternative approaches. The variationally optimal CCFs obtained using the proposed approach offer improvements over the alternatives, as assessed visually and via quantitative metrics measuring smoothness and invariance in the presence of primary variations. Spectral–spatial transforms (SSTs) change a raw camera image captured using a color filter array (CFA-sampled image) from an RGB color space composed of red, green, and blue components into a decorrelated color space, such as YDgCbCr or YDgCoCg color space composed of luma, difference green, and two chroma components. This paper describes three types of wavelet-based SST (WSST) obtained by reorganizing all of the existing SSTs covered in this paper. First, we introduce three types of macropixel SST (MSST) implemented within each $2 \times 2$ macropixel. Next, we focus on two-channel Haar wavelet transforms, which are simple wavelet transforms, and three-channel Haar-like wavelet transforms in each MSST and replace the Haar and Haar-like wavelet transforms with Cohen–Daubechies–Feauveau (CDF) 5/3 and 9/7 wavelet transforms, which are customized on the basis of the original pixel positions in 2D space. Although the test data set is not big, in lossless CFA-sampled image compression based on JPEG 2000, the WSSTs improve the bitrates by about 1.67%–3.17% compared with not using a transform, and the WSSTs that use 5/3 wavelet transforms improve the bitrates by about 0.31%–0.71% compared with the best existing SST. Moreover, in lossy CFA-sampled image compression based on JPEG 2000, the WSSTs show about 2.25–4.40 dB and 26.04%–49.35% in the Bjøntegaard metrics (BD-PSNRs and BD-rates) compared with not using a transform, and the WSSTs that use 9/7 wavelet transforms improve the metrics by about 0.13–0.40 dB and 2.27%–4.80% compared with the best existing SST. In this paper, we are interested in the compression of image sets or video with considerable changes in illumination. We develop a framework to decompose frames into illumination fields and texture in order to achieve sparser representations of frames which is beneficial for compression. Illumination variations or contrast ratio factors among frames are described by a full resolution multiplicative field. First, we propose a Lifting-based Illumination Adaptive Transform (LIAT) framework which incorporates illumination compensation to temporal wavelet transforms. We estimate a full resolution illumination field, taking heed of its spatial sparsity by a rate-distortion (R-D) driven framework. An affine mesh model is also developed as a point of comparison. We find the operational coding cost of the subband frames by modeling a typical t + 2D wavelet video coding system. While our general findings on R-D optimization are applicable to a range of coding frameworks, in this paper, we report results based on employing JPEG 2000 coding tools. The experimental results highlight the benefits of the proposed R-D driven illumination estimation and compensation in comparison with alternative scalable coding methods and non-scalable coding schemes of AVC and HEVC employing weighted prediction. Owing to the limits of incident energy and hardware system, hyperspectral (HS) images always suffer from low spatial resolution, compared with multispectral (MS) or panchromatic (PAN) images. Therefore, image fusion has emerged as a useful technology that is able to combine the characteristics of high spectral and spatial resolutions of HS and PAN/MS images. In this paper, a novel HS and PAN image fusion method based on convolutional neural network (CNN) is proposed. The proposed method incorporates the ideas of both hyper-sharpening and MS pan-sharpening techniques, thereby employing a two-stage cascaded CNN to reconstruct the anticipated high-resolution HS image. Technically, the proposed CNN architecture consists of two sub-networks, the detail injection sub-network and unmixing sub-network. The former aims at producing a latent high-resolution MS image, whereas the latter estimates the desired high-resolution abundance maps by exploring the spatial and spectral information of both HS and MS images. Moreover, two model-training fashions are presented in this paper for the sake of effectively training our network. Experiments on simulated and real remote sensing data demonstrate that the proposed method can improve the spatial resolution and spectral fidelity of HS image, and achieve better performance than some state-of-the-art HS pan-sharpening algorithms. The automatic detection and identification of fish from underwater videos is of great significance for fishery resource assessment and ecological environment monitoring. However, due to the poor quality of underwater images and unconstrained fish movement, traditional hand-designed feature extraction methods or convolutional neural network (CNN)-based object detection algorithms cannot meet the detection requirements in real underwater scenes. Therefore, to realize fish recognition and localization in a complex underwater environment, this paper proposes a novel composite fish detection framework based on a composite backbone and an enhanced path aggregation network called Composited FishNet. By improving the residual network (ResNet), a new composite backbone network (CBresnet) is designed to learn the scene change information (source domain style), which is caused by the differences in the image brightness, fish orientation, seabed structure, aquatic plant movement, fish species shape and texture differences. Thus, the interference of underwater environmental information on the object characteristics is reduced, and the output of the main network to the object information is strengthened. In addition, to better integrate the high and low feature information output from CBresnet, the enhanced path aggregation network (EPANet) is also designed to solve the insufficient utilization of semantic information caused by linear upsampling. The experimental results show that the average precision (AP)0.5:0.95, AP50 and average recall (AR)max=10 of the proposed Composited FishNet are 75.2%, 92.8% and 81.1%, respectively. The composite backbone network enhances the characteristic information output of the detected object and improves the utilization of characteristic information. Skeleton data have been extensively used for action recognition since they can robustly accommodate dynamic circumstances and complex backgrounds. To guarantee the action-recognition performance, we prefer to use advanced and time-consuming algorithms to get more accurate and complete skeletons from the scene. However, this may not be acceptable in time- and resource-stringent applications. In this paper, we explore the feasibility of using low-quality skeletons, which can be quickly and easily estimated from the scene, for action recognition. While the use of low-quality skeletons will surely lead to degraded action-recognition accuracy, in this paper we propose a structural knowledge distillation scheme to minimize this accuracy degradations and improve recognition model’s robustness to uncontrollable skeleton corruptions. More specifically, a teacher which observes high-quality skeletons obtained from a scene is used to help train a student which only sees low-quality skeletons generated from the same scene. At inference time, only the student network is deployed for processing low-quality skeletons. In the proposed network, a graph matching loss is proposed to distill the graph structural knowledge at an intermediate representation level. We also propose a new gradient revision strategy to seek a balance between mimicking the teacher model and directly improving the student model’s accuracy. Image segmentation is the foundation of high-level image analysis and image understanding. How to effectively segment an image into regions that are “meaningful” to the human visual perception and ensure that the segmented regions are consistent at different resolutions is still a very challenging issue. Inspired by the idea of the Nonsymmetry and Anti-packing pattern representation Model in the Lab color space (NAMLab) and the “global-first” invariant perceptual theory, in this paper, we propose a novel framework for hierarchical image segmentation. Firstly, by defining the dissimilarity between two pixels in the Lab color space, we propose an NAMLab-based color image representation approach that is more in line with the human visual perception characteristics and can make the image pixels fast and effectively merge into the NAMLab blocks. Then, by defining the dissimilarity between two NAMLab-based regions and iteratively executing NAMLab-based merging algorithm of adjacent regions into larger ones to progressively generate a segmentation dendrogram, we propose a fast NAMLab-based algorithm for hierarchical image segmentation. Finally, the complexities of our proposed NAMLab-based algorithm for hierarchical image segmentation are analyzed in details. The experimental results presented in this paper show that our proposed algorithm when compared with the state-of-the-art algorithms not only can preserve more details of the object boundaries, but also it can better identify the foreground objects with similar color distributions. As an instance-level recognition problem, re-identification (re-ID) requires models to capture diverse features. However, with continuous training, re-ID models pay more and more attention to the salient areas. As a result, the model may only focus on few small regions with salient representations and ignore other important information. This phenomenon leads to inferior performance, especially when models are evaluated on small inter-identity variation data. In this paper, we propose a novel network, Erasing-Salient Net (ES-Net), to learn comprehensive features by erasing the salient areas in an image. ES-Net proposes a novel method to locate the salient areas by the confidence of objects and erases them efficiently in a training batch. Meanwhile, to mitigate the over-erasing problem, this paper uses a trainable pooling layer P-pooling that generalizes global max and global average pooling. Experiments are conducted on two specific re-identification tasks (i.e., Person re-ID, Vehicle re-ID). Our ES-Net outperforms state-of-the-art methods on three Person re-ID benchmarks and two Vehicle re-ID benchmarks. Specifically, mAP / Rank-1 rate: 88.6% / 95.7% on Market1501, 78.8% / 89.2% on DuckMTMC-reID, 57.3% / 80.9% on MSMT17, 81.9% / 97.0% on Veri-776, respectively. Domain adaptation aims to alleviate the distribution discrepancy between source and target domains. Most conventional methods focus on one target domain setting adapted from one or multiple source domains while neglecting the multi-target domain setting. We argue that different target domains also have complementary information, which is very important for performance improvement. In this paper, we propose an Attention-guided Multiple source-and-target Domain Adaptation (AMDA) method to capture the context dependency information on transferable regions among multiple source and target domains. The innovation points of this paper are as follows: (1) We use numerous adversarial strategies to harvest sufficient information from multiple source and target domains, which extends the generalization and robustness of the feature pools. (2) We propose an intra-domain and inter-domain attention module to explore transferable context information. The proposed attention module can learn domain-invariant representations and reduce the negative transfer by focusing on transferable knowledge. Light field imaging, which captures both spatial and angular information, improves user immersion by enabling post-capture actions, such as refocusing and changing view perspective. However, light fields represent very large volumes of data with a lot of redundancy that coding methods try to remove. State-of-the-art coding methods indeed usually focus on improving compression efficiency and overlook other important features in light field compression such as scalability. In this paper, we propose a novel light field image compression method that enables (i) viewport scalability, (ii) quality scalability, (iii) spatial scalability, (iv) random access, and (v) uniform quality distribution among viewports, while keeping compression efficiency high. To this end, light fields in each spatial resolution are divided into sequential viewport layers, and viewports in each layer are encoded using the previously encoded viewports. In each viewport layer, the available viewports are used to synthesize intermediate viewports using a video interpolation deep learning network. The synthesized views are used as virtual reference images to enhance the quality of intermediate views. An image super-resolution method is applied to improve the quality of the lower spatial resolution layer. The super-resolved images are also used as virtual reference images to improve the quality of the higher spatial resolution layer. The proposed structure also improves the flexibility of light field streaming, provides random access to the viewports, and increases error resiliency. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves a high compression efficiency and it can adapt to the display type, transmission channel, network condition, processing power, and user needs. Efficient action recognition aims to classify a video clip into a specific action category with a low computational cost. It is challenging since the integrated spatial-temporal calculation (e. g., 3D convolution) introduces intensive operations and increases complexity. This paper explores the feasibility of the integration of channel splitting and filter decoupling for efficient architecture design and feature refinement by proposing a novel spatio-temporal collaborative (STC) module. STC splits the video feature channels into two groups and separately learns spatio-temporal representations in parallel with decoupled convolutional operators. Particularly, STC consists of two computation-efficient blocks, i.e., $\text {S}_{\mathrm{ T}}$ and $\text {T}_{\mathrm{ S}}$ , where they extract either spatial (${S}_{\cdot }$) or temporal (${T}_{\cdot }$) features and further refine their features with either temporal ($\cdot _{T}$) or spatial ($\cdot _{S}$) contexts globally. The spatial/temporal context refers to information dynamics aggregated from temporal/spatial axis. To thoroughly examine our method’s performance in video action recognition tasks, we conduct extensive experiments using five video benchmark datasets requiring temporal reasoning. Hyperspectral image produces high spectral resolution at the sacrifice of spatial resolution. Without reducing the spectral resolution, improving the resolution in the spatial domain is a very challenging problem. Motivated by the discovery that hyperspectral image exhibits high similarity between adjacent bands in a large spectral range, in this paper, we explore a new structure for hyperspectral image super-resolution (DualSR), leading to a dual-stage design, i.e., coarse stage and fine stage. In coarse stage, five bands with high similarity in a certain spectral range are divided into three groups, and the current band is guided to study the potential knowledge. Under the action of alternative spectral fusion mechanism, the coarse SR image is super-resolved in band-by-band. In order to build model from a global perspective, an enhanced back-projection method via spectral angle constraint is developed in fine stage to learn the content of spatial-spectral consistency, dramatically improving the performance gain. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed coarse stage and fine stage. Besides, our network produces state-of-the-art results against existing works in terms of spatial reconstruction and spectral fidelity. With the development of multimedia technology, Augmented Reality (AR) has become a promising next-generation mobile platform. The primary value of AR is to promote the fusion of digital contents and real-world environments, however, studies on how this fusion will influence the Quality of Experience (QoE) of these two components are lacking. To achieve better QoE of AR, whose two layers are influenced by each other, it is important to evaluate its perceptual quality first. In this paper, we consider AR technology as the superimposition of virtual scenes and real scenes, and introduce visual confusion as its basic theory. A more general problem is first proposed, which is evaluating the perceptual quality of superimposed images, i.e., confusing image quality assessment. A ConFusing Image Quality Assessment (CFIQA) database is established, which includes 600 reference images and 300 distorted images generated by mixing reference images in pairs. Then a subjective quality perception experiment is conducted towards attaining a better understanding of how humans perceive the confusing images. Based on the CFIQA database, several benchmark models and a specifically designed CFIQA model are proposed for solving this problem. Experimental results show that the proposed CFIQA model achieves state-of-the-art performance compared to other benchmark models. Moreover, an extended ARIQA study is further conducted based on the CFIQA study. We establish an ARIQA database to better simulate the real AR application scenarios, which contains 20 AR reference images, 20 background (BG) reference images, and 560 distorted images generated from AR and BG references, as well as the correspondingly collected subjective quality ratings. Three types of full-reference (FR) IQA benchmark variants are designed to study whether we should consider the visual confusion when designing corresponding IQA algorithms. An ARIQA metric is finally proposed for better evaluating the perceptual quality of AR images. Experimental results demonstrate the good generalization ability of the CFIQA model and the state-of-the-art performance of the ARIQA model. Semi-supervised domain adaptation (SSDA) is quite a challenging problem requiring methods to overcome both 1) overfitting towards poorly annotated data and 2) distribution shift across domains. Unfortunately, a simple combination of domain adaptation (DA) and semi-supervised learning (SSL) methods often fail to address such two objects because of training data bias towards labeled samples. In this paper, we introduce an adaptive structure learning method to regularize the cooperation of SSL and DA. Inspired by the multi-views learning, our proposed framework is composed of a shared feature encoder network and two classifier networks, trained for contradictory purposes. Among them, one of the classifiers is applied to group target features to improve intra-class density, enlarging the gap of categorical clusters for robust representation learning. Meanwhile, the other classifier, serviced as a regularizer, attempts to scatter the source features to enhance the smoothness of the decision boundary. The iterations of target clustering and source expansion make the target features being well-enclosed inside the dilated boundary of the corresponding source points. For the joint address of cross-domain features alignment and partially labeled data learning, we apply the maximum mean discrepancy (MMD) distance minimization and self-training (ST) to project the contradictory structures into a shared view to make the reliable final decision. The experimental results over the standard SSDA benchmarks, including DomainNet and Office-home, demonstrate both the accuracy and robustness of our method over the state-of-the-art approaches. Modern top-performing object detectors depend heavily on backbone networks, whose advances bring consistent performance gains through exploring more effective network structures. In this paper, we propose a novel and flexible backbone framework, namely CBNet, to construct high-performance detectors using existing open-source pre-trained backbones under the pre-training fine-tuning paradigm. In particular, CBNet architecture groups multiple identical backbones, which are connected through composite connections. Specifically, it integrates the high- and low-level features of multiple identical backbone networks and gradually expands the receptive field to more effectively perform object detection. We also propose a better training strategy with auxiliary supervision for CBNet-based detectors. CBNet has strong generalization capabilities for different backbones and head designs of the detector architecture. Without additional pre-training of the composite backbone, CBNet can be adapted to various backbones (i.e., CNN-based vs. Transformer-based) and head designs of most mainstream detectors (i.e., one-stage vs. two-stage, anchor-based vs. anchor-free-based). Experiments provide strong evidence that, compared with simply increasing the depth and width of the network, CBNet introduces a more efficient, effective, and resource-friendly way to build high-performance backbone networks. Particularly, our CB-Swin-L achieves 59.4% box AP and 51.6% mask AP on COCO test-dev under the single-model and single-scale testing protocol, which are significantly better than the state-of-the-art results (i.e., 57.7% box AP and 50.2% mask AP) achieved by Swin-L, while reducing the training time by $6\times $. With multi-scale testing, we push the current best single model result to a new record of 60.1% box AP and 52.3% mask AP without using extra training data. Forward modeling of wave scattering and radar imaging mechanisms is the key to information extraction from synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images. Like inverse graphics in the optical domain, an inherently-integrated forward-inverse approach would be promising for SAR advanced information retrieval and target reconstruction. This paper presents such an attempt at inverse graphics for SAR imagery. A differentiable SAR renderer (DSR) is developed, which reformulates the mapping and projection algorithm of the SAR imaging mechanism in the differentiable form of probability maps. First-order gradients of the proposed DSR are then analytically derived, which can be back-propagated from rendered image/silhouette to the target geometry and scattering attributes. A 3D inverse target reconstruction algorithm from SAR images is devised. Several simulation and reconstruction experiments are conducted, including targets with and without background, using synthesized data or real measured inverse SAR (ISAR) data by ground radar. Recent research advances in salient object detection (SOD) could largely be attributed to ever-stronger multi-scale feature representation empowered by the deep learning technologies. The existing SOD deep models extract multi-scale features via the off-the-shelf encoders and combine them smartly via various delicate decoders. However, the kernel sizes in this commonly-used thread are usually “fixed”. In our new experiments, we have observed that kernels of small size are preferable in scenarios containing tiny salient objects. In contrast, large kernel sizes could perform better for images with large salient objects. Inspired by this observation, we advocate the “dynamic” scale routing (as a brand-new idea) in this paper. It will result in a generic plug-in that could directly fit the existing feature backbone. This paper’s key technical innovations are two-fold. First, instead of using the vanilla convolution with fixed kernel sizes for the encoder design, we propose the dynamic pyramid convolution (DPConv), which dynamically selects the best-suited kernel sizes w.r.t. the given input. Second, we provide a self-adaptive bidirectional decoder design to accommodate the DPConv-based encoder best. The most significant highlight is its capability of routing between feature scales and their dynamic collection, making the inference process scale-aware. To track the target in a video, current visual trackers usually adopt greedy search for target object localization in each frame, that is, the candidate region with the maximum response score will be selected as the tracking result of each frame. However, we found that this may be not an optimal choice, especially when encountering challenging tracking scenarios such as heavy occlusion and fast motion. In particular, if a tracker drifts, errors will be accumulated and would further make response scores estimated by the tracker unreliable in future frames. To address this issue, we propose to maintain multiple tracking trajectories and apply beam search strategy for visual tracking, so that the trajectory with fewer accumulated errors can be identified. Accordingly, this paper introduces a novel multi-agent reinforcement learning based beam search tracking strategy, termed BeamTracking. It is mainly inspired by the image captioning task, which takes an image as input and generates diverse descriptions using beam search algorithm. Accordingly, we formulate the tracking as a sample selection problem fulfilled by multiple parallel decision-making processes, each of which aims at picking out one sample as their tracking result in each frame. Each maintained trajectory is associated with an agent to perform the decision-making and determine what actions should be taken to update related information. More specifically, using the classification-based tracker as the baseline, we first adopt bi-GRU to encode the target feature, proposal feature, and its response score into a unified state representation. The state feature and greedy search result are then fed into the first agent for independent action selection. Afterwards, the output action and state features are fed into the subsequent agent for diverse results prediction. When all the frames are processed, we select the trajectory with the maximum accumulated score as the tracking result. Early interlaced videos usually contain multiple and interlacing and complex compression artifacts, which significantly reduce the visual quality. Although the high-definition reconstruction technology for early videos has made great progress in recent years, related research on deinterlacing is still lacking. Traditional methods mainly focus on simple interlacing mechanism, and cannot deal with the complex artifacts in real-world early videos. Recent interlaced video reconstruction deep deinterlacing models only focus on single frame, while neglecting important temporal information. Therefore, this paper proposes a multiframe deinterlacing network joint enhancement network for early interlaced videos that consists of three modules, i.e., spatial vertical interpolation module, temporal alignment and fusion module, and final refinement module. The proposed method can effectively remove the complex artifacts in early videos by using temporal redundancy of multi-fields. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method can recover high quality results for both synthetic dataset and real-world early interlaced videos. Model-based single image dehazing algorithms restore haze-free images with sharp edges and rich details for real-world hazy images at the expense of low PSNR and SSIM values for synthetic hazy images. Data-driven ones restore haze-free images with high PSNR and SSIM values for synthetic hazy images but with low contrast, and even some remaining haze for real-world hazy images. In this paper, a novel single image dehazing algorithm is introduced by combining model-based and data-driven approaches. Both transmission map and atmospheric light are first estimated by the model-based methods, and then refined by dual-scale generative adversarial networks (GANs) based approaches. The resultant algorithm forms a neural augmentation which converges very fast while the corresponding data-driven approach might not converge. Haze-free images are restored by using the estimated transmission map and atmospheric light as well as the Koschmieder’s law. Domain adaptation leverages rich knowledge from a related source domain so that it can be used to perform tasks in a target domain. For more knowledge to be obtained under relaxed conditions, domain adaptation methods have been widely used in pattern recognition and image classification. However, most of the existing domain adaptation methods only consider how to minimize different distributions of the source and target domains, which neglects what should be transferred for a specific task and suffers negative transfer by distribution outliers. To address these problems, in this paper, we propose a novel domain adaptation method called weighted correlation embedding learning (WCEL) for image classification. In the WCEL approach, we seamlessly integrated correlation learning, graph embedding, and sample reweighting into a unified learning model. Specifically, we extracted the maximum correlated features from the source and target domains for image classification tasks. In addition, two graphs were designed to preserve the discriminant information from interclass samples and neighborhood relations in intraclass samples. Furthermore, to prevent the negative transfer problem, we developed an efficient sample reweighting strategy to predict the target with different confidence levels. To verify the performance of the proposed method in image classification, extensive experiments were conducted with several benchmark databases, verifying the superiority of the WCEL method over other state-of-the-art domain adaptation algorithms. Point cloud is a set of three-dimensional points in arbitrary order, which is a popular representation of 3D scene in autonomous navigation and immersive applications in recent years. Compression becomes an inevitable issue due to the huge data volume of point cloud. In order to effectively compress attributes of those points, proper reordering is important. The existing voxel-based point cloud attributes compression scheme uses a naive scan for points reordering. In this paper, we theoretically analyzed 3C properties of point cloud, i.e., Compactness, Clustering and Correlation, of different scan-orders defined by different space filling curves and disclosed that the Hilbert curve can provide the best spatial correlation preservation compared with Z-order and Gray-coded curves. It is also statistically verified that the Hilbert curve always has the best ability of attributes correlation preservation for point clouds with different sparsity. We also proposed a fast and iterative Hilbert address code generation method to implement points reordering. The Hilbert scan-order could be combined with various point cloud attribute coding methods. Weakly supervised action localization is a challenging task with extensive applications, which aims to identify actions and the corresponding temporal intervals with only video-level annotations available. This paper analyzes the order-sensitive and location-insensitive properties of actions, and embodies them into a self-augmented learning framework to improve the weakly supervised action localization performance. To be specific, we propose a novel two-branch network architecture with intra/inter-action shuffling, referred to as ActShufNet. The intra-action shuffling branch lays out a self-supervised order prediction task to augment the video representation with inner-video relevance, whereas the inter-action shuffling branch imposes a reorganizing strategy on the existing action contents to augment the training set without resorting to any external resources. Furthermore, the global-local adversarial training is presented to enhance the model’s robustness to irrelevant noises. Geometry-based point cloud compression (G-PCC) can achieve remarkable compression efficiency for point clouds. However, it still leads to serious attribute compression artifacts, especially under low bitrate scenarios. In this paper, we propose a Multi-Scale Graph Attention Network (MS-GAT) to remove the artifacts of point cloud attributes compressed by G-PCC. We first construct a graph based on point cloud geometry coordinates and then use the Chebyshev graph convolutions to extract features of point cloud attributes. Considering that one point may be correlated with points both near and far away from it, we propose a multi-scale scheme to capture the short- and long-range correlations between the current point and its neighboring and distant points. To address the problem that various points may have different degrees of artifacts caused by adaptive quantization, we introduce the quantization step per point as an extra input to the proposed network. We also incorporate a weighted graph attentional layer into the network to pay special attention to the points with more attribute artifacts. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first attribute artifacts removal method for G-PCC. We validate the effectiveness of our method over various point clouds. Objective comparison results show that our proposed method achieves an average of 9.74% BD-rate reduction compared with Predlift and 10.13% BD-rate reduction compared with RAHT. Image noise removal is a common problem with many proposed solutions. The current standard is set by learning-based approaches, however these are not appropriate in all scenarios, perhaps due to lack of training data or the need for predictability in novel circumstances. The bitonic filter is a non-learning-based filter for removing noise from signals, with a mathematical morphology (ranking) framework in which the signal is postulated to be locally bitonic (having only one minimum or maximum) over some domain of finite extent. A novel version of this filter is developed in this paper, with a domain that is locally-adaptive to the signal, and other adjustments to allow application to real image sensor noise. These lead to significant improvements in noise reduction performance at no cost to processing times. The new bitonic filter performs better than the block-matching 3D filter for high levels of additive white Gaussian noise. It also surpasses this and other more recent non-learning-based filters for two public data sets containing real image noise at various levels. This is despite an additional adjustment to the block-matching filter, which leads to significantly better performance than has previously been cited on these data sets. The new bitonic filter has a signal-to-noise ratio 2.4dB lower than the best learning-based techniques when they are optimally trained. However, the performance gap is closed completely when these techniques are trained on data sets not directly related to the benchmark data. This demonstrates what can be achieved with a predictable, explainable, entirely local technique, which makes no assumptions of repeating patterns either within an image or across images, and hence creates residual images which are well behaved even in very high noise. In contemporary society full of stereoscopic images, how to assess visual quality of 3D images has attracted an increasing attention in field of Stereoscopic Image Quality Assessment (SIQA). Compared with 2D-IQA, SIQA is more challenging because some complicated features of Human Visual System (HVS), such as binocular interaction and binocular fusion, must be considered. In this paper, considering both binocular interaction and fusion mechanisms of the HVS, a hierarchical no-reference stereoscopic image quality assessment network (StereoIF-Net) is proposed to simulate the whole quality perception of 3D visual signals in human cortex, including two key modules: BIM and BFM. In particular, Binocular Interaction Modules (BIMs) are constructed to simulate binocular interaction in V2-V5 visual cortex regions, in which a novel cross convolution is designed to explore the interaction details in each region. In the BIMs, different output channel numbers are designed to imitate various receptive fields in V2-V5. Furthermore, a Binocular Fusion Module (BFM) with automatic learned weights is proposed to model binocular fusion of the HVS in higher cortex layers. The verification experiments are conducted on the LIVE 3D, IVC and Waterloo-IVC SIQA databases and three indices including PLCC, SROCC and RMSE are employed to evaluate the assessment consistency between StereoIF-Net and the HVS. The proposed StereoIF-Net achieves almost the best results compared with advanced SIQA methods. In this paper, a Multi-scale Contrastive Graph Convolutional Network (MC-GCN) method is proposed for unconstrained face recognition with image sets, which takes a set of media (orderless images and videos) as a face subject instead of single media (an image or video). Due to factors such as illumination, posture, media source, etc., there are huge intra-set variances in a face set, and the importance of different face prototypes varies considerably. How to model the attention mechanism according to the relationship between prototypes or images in a set is the main content of this paper. In this work, we formulate a framework based on graph convolutional network (GCN), which considers face prototypes as nodes to build relations. Specifically, we first present a multi-scale graph module to learn the relationship between prototypes at multiple scales. Moreover, a Contrastive Graph Convolutional (CGC) block is introduced to build attention control model, which focuses on those frames with similar prototypes (contrastive information) between pair of sets instead of simply evaluating the frame quality. High spatial resolution and high spectral resolution images (HR-HSIs) are widely applied in geosciences, medical diagnosis, and beyond. However, how to get images with both high spatial resolution and high spectral resolution is still a problem to be solved. In this paper, we present a deep spatial-spectral feature interaction network (SSFIN) for reconstructing an HR-HSI from a low-resolution multispectral image (LR-MSI), e.g., RGB image. In particular, we introduce two auxiliary tasks, i.e., spatial super-resolution (SR) and spectral SR to help the network recover the HR-HSI better. Since higher spatial resolution can provide more detailed information about image texture and structure, and richer spectrum can provide more attribute information, we propose a spatial-spectral feature interaction block (SSFIB) to make the spatial SR task and the spectral SR task benefit each other. Therefore, we can make full use of the rich spatial and spectral information extracted from the spatial SR task and spectral SR task, respectively. Moreover, we use a weight decay strategy (for the spatial and spectral SR tasks) to train the SSFIN, so that the model can gradually shift attention from the auxiliary tasks to the primary task. Both quantitative and visual results on three widely used HSI datasets demonstrate that the proposed method achieves a considerable gain compared to other state-of-the-art methods. Single image super-resolution (SISR) using deep convolutional neural networks (CNNs) achieves the state-of-the-art performance. Most existing SISR models mainly focus on pursuing high peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and neglect textures and details. As a result, the recovered images are often perceptually unpleasant. To address this issue, in this paper, we propose a texture and detail-preserving network (TDPN), which focuses not only on local region feature recovery but also on preserving textures and details. Specifically, the high-resolution image is recovered from its corresponding low-resolution input in two branches. First, a multi-reception field based branch is designed to let the network fully learn local region features by adaptively selecting local region features in different reception fields. Then, a texture and detail-learning branch supervised by the textures and details decomposed from the ground-truth high resolution image is proposed to provide additional textures and details for the super-resolution process to improve the perceptual quality. Finally, we introduce a gradient loss into the SISR field and define a novel hybrid loss to strengthen boundary information recovery and to avoid overly smooth boundary in the final recovered high-resolution image caused by using only the MAE loss. More importantly, the proposed method is model-agnostic, which can be applied to most off-the-shelf SISR networks. The experimental results on public datasets demonstrate the superiority of our TDPN on most state-of-the-art SISR methods in PSNR, SSIM and perceptual quality.
