The article focuses on Shiite refugees in Iraq who have come to their sect's holy city of Najaf to seek assistance. There are as many as several hundreds thousand of these internally displaced persons in the area. They are kept in dismal camps far from the city in squalid conditions. Iraq has almost no resources to deal with its internal refugees. The displaced Shiites are furious the Shiite-dominated government of Nuri al-Maliki has not come to their aid.
