An adolescent boy exhibited lack of efficacy during treatment with risperidone for psychotic symptoms. At the age of 17, he developed diabetic ketoacidosis during treatment with olanzapine for psychotic symptoms. The boy had been receiving treatment for about 6 years in a child and adolescent psychiatry outpatient clinic. He initially received risperidone with no benefit, then switched to aripiprazole with improvement. However, after starting olanzapine, he experienced symptoms of diabetic ketoacidosis and was diagnosed with olanzapine-induced diabetic ketoacidosis. Treatment with olanzapine was discontinued and he was discharged with insulin therapy. [Extracted from the article]
