The continuous downward movement exhibited by the Lashagou landslide group in recent years poses a significant threat to the safety of both vehicles and pedestrians traversing the highway G310. By integrating geomorphological interpretation using multi-temporal optical images, interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) measurements, and continuous global navigation satellite system (GNSS) observations, this paper traced the formation period of the Lashagou landslide group, and explored its kinematic behavior under external drivers such as rainfall and snowmelt. The results indicate that the formation period can be specifically categorized into three periods: before, during, and after the construction of highway G310. The construction of highway G310 is the direct cause and prerequisite for the formation of the Lashagou landslide group, whereas summer precipitation and spring snowmelt are the external driving factors contributing to its continuous downward movement. Additionally, both the long-term seasonal downslope movement and transient acceleration events are strongly controlled by rainfall, and there is a time lag of approximately 1–2 days between the transient acceleration and heavy rainfall events. This study highlights the benefits of leveraging multi-source remote sensing data to investigate slow-moving landslides, which is advantageous for the implementation of effective control and engineering intervention to mitigate potential landslide disasters. Underground coal-mining-induced ground subsidence deformation is a common geological disaster impacting buildings, transportation and water supplies. Models predicting ground subsidence dynamically with high precision are important for the prevention of damage derived from ground subsidence. In this paper, the Hook function is utilized to develop a model describing the velocity of ground subsidence due to underground coal mining. Based on the subsidence velocity model, a dynamic subsidence model is established by taking an integral of the velocity model. Coefficients of the model, which depend on maximum subsidence, maximum subsidence velocity and the time corresponding to the maximum subsidence velocity, are related to the geological and mining conditions of the coal seam being investigated. A Levenberg–Marquardt-algorithm-based method is also proposed to calculate the optimal model coefficients based on subsidence velocity observations. Four continuously operating Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) stations were constructed above a typical longwall coal mining working face in the Jining mining area, China. These GNSS stations collected subsidence observations over two years, which were used to validate the developed prediction model. The results show that the root-mean-square (RMS) of the model-predicted ground subsidence error is 56.1 mm, and the maximum relative error is 2.5% for all four GNSS stations, when the ground subsidence is less than 6000 mm. As a major grain-producing region in China, the North China Plain (NCP) faces serious challenges such as water shortage and land subsidence. In late 2014, the Central Route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project (SNWD-C) began to provide NCP with water resources. However, the effectiveness of this supply in mitigating land subsidence remains a pivotal and yet unassessed aspect. In this paper, we utilized various geodetic datasets, including the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) and GRACE Follow On (GRACE-FO), Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and leveling data, to conduct a spatial-temporal analysis of the equivalent water height (EWH) and vertical ground movement in the NCP. The results reveal a noteworthy decline in EWH from 2011 to 2015, followed by a slight increase with minor fluctuations from 2015 to 2020, demonstrating a strong correlation with the water resources supplied by the SNWD-C. The GRACE-derived surface deformation rate induced by hydrological loading is estimated to be <1 mm/yr. In comparison, GNSS-derived vertical ground movements exhibit considerable regional differences during the 2011–2020 period. Substantial surface subsidence is evident in the central and eastern NCP, contrasting with a gradual uplift in the front plain of the Taihang Mountains. Three-stage leveling results indicate that the rate of subsidence in the central and eastern plains is gradually increasing with the depression area expanding from 1960 to 2010. Based on these geodetic results, it can be inferred that the SNWD-C's operation since 2014 has effectively mitigated the reduction in terrestrial water storage in the NCP. However, land subsidence in the NCP persists, as the subsidence rate does not turn around in sync with the change in EWH following the operation of SNWD-C. Consequently, it's necessary to maintain and enforce existing policies, including controlling groundwater exploitation and water resources supply (e.g., SNWD-C) to curtail the exacerbation of land subsidence in the NCP. Additionally, continuous monitoring of land subsidence by GRACE, GNSS, leveling and other geodetic techniques is crucial to enable timely policy adjustments based on monitoring results. This article takes the measured Total Electron Content (TEC) from the GPS points of the China Regional Crust Observation Network as the starting point to establish a regional ionospheric empirical model. The model's performance is enhanced by considering solar flux and geomagnetic activity data. The refinement function model of the ionospheric TEC diurnal variation component, seasonal variation component, and geomagnetic component is studied. Using the nonlinear least squares method to fit undetermined coefficients, MEFM-ITCR (Multi-parameter Empirical Fusion Model–Ionospheric TEC China Regional Model) is proposed to forecast the regional ionosphere TEC in China. The results show that the standard deviation of MEFM-ITCR residuals is 3.74TECU, and MEFM-ITCR fits the modeling dataset well. Analyses of geographic location variation, seasonal variation, and geomagnetic disturbance were carried out for MEFM-ITCR performance. The results indicate that in the Chinese region, MEFM-ITCR outperforms IRI2020 and NeQuick2 models in terms of forecast accuracy, linear correlation, and model precision for TEC measured using GPS points under different latitudes and longitudes, different seasons, and different geomagnetic disturbances. The empirical TEC model built for the Chinese region in this paper provides a new ionospheric delay correction method for GNSS single frequency users and is of great significance for establishing other new and improving existing ionospheric empirical models. The global navigation satellite system (GNSS) position time series provides essential data for geodynamic and geophysical studies. Interpolation of the GNSS position time series is necessary because missing data will produce inaccurate conclusions made from the studies. The spatio-temporal correlations between GNSS reference stations cannot be considered when using traditional interpolation methods. This paper examines the use of machine learning models to reflect the spatio-temporal correlation among GNSS reference stations. To form the machine learning problem, the time series to be interpolated are treated as output values, and the time series from the remaining GNSS reference stations are used as input data. Specifically, three machine learning algorithms (i.e., the gradient boosting decision tree (GBDT), eXtreme gradient boosting (XGBoost), and random forest (RF)) are utilized to perform interpolation with the time series data from five GNSS reference stations in North China. The results of the interpolation of discrete points indicate that the three machine learning models achieve similar interpolation precision in the Up component, which is 45% better than the traditional cubic spline interpolation precision. The results of the interpolation of continuous missing data indicate that seasonal oscillations caused by thermal expansion effects in summer significantly affect the interpolation precision. Meanwhile, we improved the interpolation precision of the three models by adding data from five stations which have high correlation with the initial five GNSS reference stations. The interpolated time series for the North, East, and Up (NEU) are examined by principal component analysis (PCA), and the results show that the GBDT and RF models perform interpolation better than the XGBoost model. In 2020, the BeiDou-3 global navigation satellite system (BDS-3) was officially completed and put into service. Currently, network real-time kinematic (RTK) technology is considered the main means through which to improve the positioning accuracy of the BeiDou navigation satellite system (BDS). This paper proposes a long-range undifferenced network RTK (URTK) algorithm, based on multi-frequency observation data of the BDS. First, the multi-frequency phase integer ambiguity resolution (AR) model considering atmospheric error parameters is designed, and the multi-frequency phase integer ambiguity of the long-range BDS reference station is determined. Then, the undifferenced integer ambiguity of each reference station is obtained, using linear variation based on the accurately determined phase integer ambiguity between reference stations, and the undifferenced observation error of each reference station is calculated. Considering the weakening spatial correlation of the observation errors between long-range stations, undifferenced classification error corrections of a reference station network are separated, according to different error characteristics. Finally, the inverse distance weighting method is employed to calculate the classification undifferenced error correction of the rover station. The rover station corrects the observation error through applying the undifferenced error correction to achieve high-precision positioning. The measured data of a long-range continuous operation reference station (CORS) network are selected for an experiment. The results show that the proposed algorithm can quickly and accurately realize the resolution of the BDS integer ambiguity of a reference station network and establish an undifferenced area error correction model in order to achieve accurate classification of undifferenced error correction values for a rover station. In China, the BDS-3 is superior to the global positioning system (GPS) in terms of the satellite number, position dilution of precision (PDOP) value, AR success rate, stability, and convergence time. The results show that the AR success rate, stability, and convergence time increase with the operational frequency, and the BDS-3 can achieve centimeter-level positioning of single-system rover stations without relying on the GPS. In this paper, a method for joint sea surface rainfall intensity (RI), wind speed, and wave height retrieval based on spaceborne global navigation satellite system reflectometry (GNSS-R) data is proposed, which especially considers the effects between these two parameters. A method of rainfall detection (RD) according to different wind speed ranges is also proposed by mitigating the impact of swell and wind speed. The results, with data collected over the oceans near Southeast Asia, show that the RD method has a detection accuracy of up to 81.74%. The RI retrieval accuracy can reach about 2 mm/h by simultaneously correcting the effects of wind speed and swell. The accuracy of wind speed retrieval is improved by about 5% after removing rainfall interference through RD in advance. After considering the influence of wind speed and eliminating rainfall interference, the retrieval accuracy of significant wave height (SWH) is improved by about 18%. Finally, the deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) model is built to estimate the SWH of the swell. The results show that the retrieval accuracy of the swell height is better than 0.20 m after excluding rainfall interference. The proposed joint retrieval method provides an important reference for the future acquisition of multiple high-precision marine geophysical parameters by spaceborne GNSS-R technology. As the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) is widely used in all walks of life, the signal structure of satellite navigation is open, and the vulnerability to spoofing attacks is also becoming increasingly prominent, which will seriously affect the credibility of navigation, positioning, and timing (PNT) services. Satellite navigation signal authentication technology is an emerging technical means of improving civil signal anti-spoofing on the satellite navigation system side, and it is also an important development direction and research focus of the GNSS. China plans to carry out the design and development of the next-generation Beidou navigation satellite system (BDS), and one of its core goals is to provide more secure and credible PNT services. This paper first expounds on the principles and technical architecture of satellite navigation signal authentication, then clarifies the development history of satellite navigation signal authentication, and finally proposes the BDS authentication service system architecture. Precise Point Positioning (PPP) is an official service of the BeiDou Global Navigation Satellite System (BDS-3) through the PPP-B2b signal. In this paper, we mainly focus on the long-term performance evaluation of BDS-3 PPP-B2b products and their application in time service. Since the PPP-B2b product is only available in and around China area, the arcs of PPP-B2b products are about several hours. We propose to evaluate the time datum stability by using all available satellites. Then, 557 day PPP-B2b products are collected for this experiment. The results show that there are large jumps in the GPS satellite clock time datum series. However, the BDS-3 satellite clock datum stability is almost at the same level with current Space State Representation (SSR) corrections from the International Global navigation satellite system Service (IGS). The difference between PPP-B2b GPS and BDS-3 satellite clock time datum will be absorbed into the Inter System Bias (ISB) parameter. Thus, it should be specially noted that the ISB parameter cannot be estimated as constant values if users use PPP-B2b products. In addition, the accuracy of the BDS-3 satellite clock is significantly better than that of the GPS for both the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) and standard deviation (STD). The average Signal in Space Range Errors (SISREs) is 0.22 ns and 0.13 ns for GPS and BDS-3, respectively. The one-way timing experiment shows BDS-3 timing stability is 2.9 × 10−14@104 s. In addition, 10 baselines from 13 km to 4494 km are formed for time synchronization evaluation by using PPP-B2b products. The average RMSEs of time synchronization is from 0.46 ns to 1.58 ns and from 0.66 ns to 1.19 ns for GPS and BDS-3, respectively. As for STD, the average values are from 0.27 ns to 0.74 ns and from 0.27 ns to 0.47 ns for GPS and BDS-3, respectively. Overall, the results show that the time datum stability, accuracy, and service performance of BDS-3 PPP-B2b products has been stable over the past two years. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Landslides along the Three Gorges Reservoir in China pose a threat to coastal residents and waterway safety. To reduce false positive misjudgments caused by a sudden local change in the landslide deformation curve, in this paper, we propose an effective method for predicting the deformation trend of reservoir bank landslides. We take reservoir bank landslides in the Wanzhou District of the Three Gorges Reservoir area as the research object. The Time-Series Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) method and 62 Sentinel-1A images from 2018 to 2022 were selected for landslide deformation monitoring, and the Hurst index was calculated to characterize the deformation trend. Furthermore, we propose a method for predicting the deformation trend based on the statistical distribution of deformation rates and the physical significance of the Hurst index. After the field survey and Global Positioning System (GPS) verification, the Time-Series InSAR results are shown to be reliable. We take the Sifangbei landslide as a representative case to analyze the validation results. It is found that the determined Sifangbei landslide deformation trend is consistent with the conclusions for the region. In addition, the deformation trend of a reservoir bank slope has obvious spatial and temporal differences. Changes in the reservoir water level and concentrated rainfall play roles similar to those of catalysts. The proposed method, involving the combination of Time-Series InSAR and the Hurst index, can effectively monitor deformation and predict the stability trend of reservoir bank landslides. China developed its Digital Television (DTV) standard in 2006, known as Digital Television Terrestrial Multimedia Broadcasting (DTMB), which employs time-domain synchronous orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (TDS-OFDM) as the modulation method. In contrast to Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSSs), DTV signals have higher transmitting power, wider coverage, larger bandwidth, and fixed transmitter location. This paper explores the positioning performance of DTMB signals, and the potential to improve GNSS positioning accuracy in urban environments. Specifically, a solution is proposed, and a software-defined radio receiver is developed for wireless localization. Without changing the current signal structure, the pseudorandom noise (PN) sequences in the signal are used for signal acquisition and carrier phase ranging. The carrier phase of the first arrived path is extracted by the least squares matching pursuit method. Both static and dynamic field tests were conducted to verify the proposed ranging and positioning method. Centimeter-level ranging accuracy was achieved in the static scenario, while meter-level ranging accuracy was achieved in the dynamic scenario. As one possible application, the proposed ranging method was combined with GPS pseudorange measurements to achieve higher accuracy position results in an urban pedestrian scenario, especially when there is only a limited number of visible satellites. With the rapid development of interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) measurement technology, its measurement accuracy requirements are increasing. Atmospheric delay errors must be corrected, especially in the case of crustal deformation monitoring, the 20% variation of tropospheric water vapor among InSAR pairs generally produces range from 10 cm to 14 cm deformation errors. Such errors can be of the same magnitude as the annual changes in crustal deformation, or even greater, masking crustal deformation information and seriously affecting the results of crustal deformation monitoring. Therefore, in order to obtain a more accurate InSAR atmospheric delay correction model, this paper calculated and integrated atmospheric delays that were estimated by different sources, including the 37 pressure levels of the fifth generation of the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF)) numerical weather prediction model, ECMWF Reanalysis v5 (ERA5), and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) measurement data from the crustal movement observation network of China, based on the variance component estimation (VCE) weighting method. The results showed that the integrated model, based on the VCE method, is better than the generic atmospheric correction online service (GACOS) model for InSAR measuring of crustal deformation. The precision in monitoring crustal deformations was improved by approximately 5 mm, the correlation coefficient of atmospheric delay errors and crustal deformations improved from 0.287 to 0.347, and accuracy improved by approximately 25%. However, the improvement in accuracy was limited because of system error decoherence that was induced by atmospheric noise caused by abundant vegetation or snow cover. Therefore, in order to achieve more accurate results, we recommend the adoption of the multi-source integrated atmospheric delay correction model, based on the VCE method, for InSAR high-precision measuring of crustal deformation and seismic activities. Atmospheric weighted mean temperature (Tm) is a key parameter used by the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) for calculating precipitable water vapor (PWV). Some empirical Tm models using meteorological or non-meteorological parameters have been proposed to calculate PWV, but their accuracy and reliability cannot be guaranteed in some regions. To validate and determine the optimal Tm model for PWV retrieval in China, this paper analyzes and evaluates some typical Tm models, namely, the Linear, Global Pressure and Temperature 3 (GPT3), the Tm model for China (CTm), the Global Weighted Mean Temperature-H (GTm-H) and the Global Tropospheric (GTrop) models. The Tm values of these models are first obtained at corresponding radiosonde (RS) stations in China over the period of 2011 to 2020. The corresponding Tm values of 87 RS stations in China are also calculated using the layered meteorological data and regarded as the reference. Comparison results show that the accuracy of these five Tm models in China has an obvious geographical distribution and decreases along with increasing altitude and latitude, respectively. The average root mean square (RMS) and Bias for the Linear, GPT3, CTm, GTm-H and GTrop models are 4.2/3.7/3.4/3.6/3.3 K and 0.7/−1.0/0.7/−0.1/0.3 K, respectively. Among these models, Linear and GPT3 models have lower accuracy in high-altitude regions, whereas CTm, GTm-H and GTrop models show better accuracy and stability throughout the whole China. These models generally have higher accuracy in regions with low latitude and lower accuracy in regions with middle and high latitudes. In addition, Linear and GPT3 models have poor accuracy in general, whereas GTm-H and CTm models are obviously less accurate and stable than GTrop model in regions with high latitude. These models show different accuracies across the four geographical regions of China, with GTrop model demonstrating the relatively better accuracy and stability. Continuous Global Positioning Systems (GPS) coordinate time series with a high spatiotemporal resolution, and provide a great opportunity to study their noise models and common mode errors (CMEs), thus making it possible to detect and analyse spatiotemporal characteristics of tectonic and non-tectonic signals in time series, and further to estimate a reliable and accurate velocity field of crustal movement in a region by removing CMEs and using the optimal noise model. In this paper, we used GPS coordinate time series from the Crustal Movement Observation Network of China (CMONOC) with an approximate decadal period from 2010 to 2020, to construct optimal noise models by fitting them with several noise combinations according to the Akaike information criterion (AIC). We further adopted independent component analysis (ICA) to extract CMEs and analysed their spatiotemporal characteristics, and then evaluated their effects on noise models and velocity uncertainties, and finally estimated a decennial velocity field of crustal movement with a higher signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) by applying the CME filtering and considering the optimal noise model in Mainland China. Our results show that optimal noise models are dominated by white noise (WN) plus flicker noise (FN) for both east and north components, and WN plus power law noise (PN) with spectral index close to −1 for up component, respectively. ICA filtering can remove the highly spatially correlated CMEs and decrease the mean RMSEs of the residual time series by about 40–60%, providing a more accurate velocity field with a higher SNR in Mainland China, accordingly. Seasonal variations in the vertical Global Positioning System (GPS) time series are mainly caused by environmental loading, e.g., hydrological loading (HYDL), atmospheric loading (ATML), and nontidal oceanic loading (NTOL), which can be synthesized based on models developed by various institutions. A comprehensive comparison among these models is essential to extract reliable vertical deformation data, especially on a regional scale. In this study, we selected 4 HYDL, 5 ATML, 2 NTOL, and their 40 combined products to investigate their effects on seasonal variations in vertical GPS time series at 27 GPS stations in Yunnan, southwest China. These products were provided by the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ), School and Observatory of Earth Sciences (EOST), and International Mass Loading Service (IMLS). Furthermore, we used the Cross Wavelet Transform (XWT) method to analyze the relative phase relationship between the GPS and the environmental loading time series. Our result showed that the largest average Root-Mean-Square (RMS) reduction value was 1.32 mm after removing the deformation associated with 4 HYDL from the vertical GPS time series, whereas the RMS reductions after 5 ATML and 2 NTOL model corrections were negative at most stations in Yunnan. The average RMS reduction value of the optimal combination of environmental loading products was 1.24 mm, which was worse than the HYDL (IMLS_GEOSFPIT)-only correction, indicating that HYDL was the main factor responding for seasonal variations at most stations in Yunnan. The XWT result showed that HYDL also explained the annual variations reasonably. Our finding implies that HYDL (IMLS_GEOSFPIT) contributes the most to the environmental loading in Yunnan, and that the ATML and NTOL models used in this paper cannot be effective to correct seasonal variations. Atmospheric water vapor is one of the important parameters for weather and climate studies. Generally, atmospheric water vapor can be monitored by some techniques, such as the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), radiosonde (RS), remote sensing and numerical weather forecast (NWF). However, the comprehensive retrieval and application of precipitable water vapor (PWV) using multi techniques has been hardly performed before, which becomes the focus of this study. A comprehensive PWV retrieval and application platform (CPRAP) is first established by combing the ground-based (GNSS), space-based (Fengyun-3A, Sentinel-3A) and reanalysis-based (the fifth-generation reanalysis dataset of the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasting, ERA5) techniques. Additionally, its applications are then extended to drought and rainfall monitoring using the CPRAP-derived PWV. The statistical result shows that PWV derived from ground-based GNSS has high accuracy in China, with the root mean square (RMS), Bias and mean absolute error (MAE) of 2.15, 0.05 and 1.65 mm, respectively, when the RS-derived PWV is regarded as the reference. In addition, the accuracy of PWV derived from the space-based (FY-3A and Sentinel-3A) techniques technique is also validated and the RMS, Bias and MAE of a Medium Resolution Spectral Imager (MERSI) onboard Fengyun-3A (FY-3A) and an Ocean and Land Color Instrument (OLCI) onboard Sentinel-3A are 4.46/0.56/3.61 mm and 2.95/0.01/1.37 mm, respectively. Then, the performance of ERA5-derived PWV is evaluated based on GNSS-derived and RS-derived PWV. The result also shows good accuracy of ERA5-provided PWV with the averaged RMS, Bias and MAE of 1.86/0.11/1.48 mm and 0.90/−0.05/1.51 mm, respectively. Finally, the PWV data derived from the established CPRAP are further used for drought and rainfall monitoring. The applied results reveal that the calculated the standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index (SPEI) using the CPRAP-derived PWV can monitor the drought and the correlation coefficient ranges from 0.83 to 0.9 when compared with the SPEI. Furthermore, in this paper correlation analysis between PWV derived from the CPRAP and rainfall, and its potential for rainfall monitoring was also validated. The Haiyang-2D (HY2D) satellite is the fourth ocean dynamics environment monitoring satellite launched by China. The satellite operates on a re-entry frozen orbit, which necessitates orbital maneuvers to maintain its designated path once the satellite's sub-satellite point deviates beyond a certain threshold. However, the execution of orbit maneuvers presents a significant challenge to the field of Precise Orbit Determination (POD). The thesis selects the on-board GPS data of HY2D satellite in December 2023 and five maneuvering days of that year. Employing a multifaceted approach that includes the assessment of observational data quality, orbit overlap, external orbit validation, and SLR (Satellite Laser Ranging) verification, the research delves into precise orbit determination during both maneuver and non-maneuver periods. The results indicate that: (1) The average number of satellites tracked by the receiver is 6.4; (2) During the non-maneuver periods, the average RMS (Root Mean Square) value of the radial difference in the 6-h overlapping arc segment is 0.66 cm, and the three-dimensional position difference is about 1.16 cm; (3) When compared with the precision science orbits (PSO) provided by CNES (Centre National d'Études Spatiales), the average values of the RMS values of the differences in the radial (R), transverse (T), and normal (N) directions during the non-maneuver and maneuver periods are respectively 1.32 cm, 2.31 cm, 1.92 cm and 3.04 cm, 8.78 cm, 2.72 cm. (4) The SLR verification of the orbit revealed a residual RMS of 2.24 cm. This suggests that by incorporating the modeling of maneuver forces during the maneuver periods, the impact of orbital maneuvers on orbit determination can be mitigated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The BeiDou Global Navigation Satellite System (BDS-3) provides real-time precise point positioning (PPP) service via B2b signals, offering real-time decimeter-level positioning for users in China and surrounding areas. However, common interruptions and outliers in PPP-B2b services arise due to factors such as the Geostationary Orbit (GEO) satellite "south wall effect", Issue of Data (IOD) matching errors, and PPP-B2b signal broadcast priorities, posing challenges to continuous high-precision positioning. This study meticulously examines the completeness, continuity, and jumps in PPP-B2b orbit and clock correction using extensive observational data. Based on this analysis, a two-step method for detecting outliers in PPP-B2b orbit and clock corrections is devised, leveraging epoch differences and median absolute deviation. Subsequently, distinct prediction methods are developed for BDS-3 and GPS orbit and clock corrections. Results from simulated and real-time dynamic positioning experiments indicate that predicted corrections can maintain the same accuracy as normal correction values for up to 10 min and sustain decimeter-level positioning accuracy within 30 min. Deformation along a subway rail network is related to the safe operation of the subway and the stability of construction facilities on the surface, making long-term deformation monitoring imperative. Long-term monitoring of surface deformation along the subway network and statistical analysis of the overall deformation situation are lacking in China. Therefore, targeting 35 Chinese cities whose subway mileage exceeds 50 km, we extracted their surface deformation along subway networks between 2018 and 2022, using spaceborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) interferometry (InSAR) technology and Sentinel-1 satellite data. We verified the results with the continuous global navigation satellite system (GNSS) stations' data and found that the root mean square error (RMSE) of the InSAR results was 3.75 mm/year. Statistical analysis showed that ground subsidence along the subways was more prominent in Beijing, Tianjin, and other areas in the North China Plain, namely Kunming (which is dominated by karst landforms), as well as Shanghai, Guangzhou, Qingdao, and other coastal cities. In addition, an analysis revealed that the severity of surface subsidence correlated positively with a city's gross domestic product (GDP) with a Pearson correlation of 0.787, since the higher the GDP, the more frequent the construction and maintenance of subway, and the more commuters there are, which in turn exacerbates the disturbance to the surface. Additionally, the type of land cover also affects the ground deformation. Our findings provide a reference for constructing, operating, and maintaining the urban subway systems in China. The most commonly used real-time augmentation services in China are the International GNSS Service's (IGS) real-time service (RTS), PPP-B2b service, and Double-Frequency Multi-Constellation (DFMC) service of the BeiDou Satellite-Based Augmentation System (BDSBAS) service. However, research on the performance evaluation, comparison, and application scope of these three products is still incomplete. This article introduces methods for obtaining real-time augmentation information and real-time orbit and clock offset recovery. Based on real-time orbit and clock offset accuracy, positioning accuracy, and positioning availability, this article systematically evaluates the performance and analyzes the application fields of Centre National d'Études Spatiales (CNES), PPP-B2b, and BDSBAS augmentation information. The results of the evaluation revealed that the radial accuracy of the CNES and PPP-B2b real-time orbit product is consistent, and the Root Mean Square (RMS) is better than 5 cm. The CNES real-time orbit product can achieve centimeter-level accuracy in both along-track and cross-track components, surpassing PPP-B2b's decimeter-level accuracy. Both services demonstrate consistent accuracy in the real-time clock offset, with PPP-B2b showing similar standard deviations (STDs) of 0.16 ns for different satellites. However, for CNES, the STD of the real-time clock offset varies, with values of 0.10 ns, 0.19 ns, and 0.60 ns, respectively, for GPS, BDS-3 Medium Earth Orbit (MEO), and BDS-3 Inclined Geosynchronous Satellite Orbit (IGSO) satellites. Centimeter-level accuracy is achieved after convergence and positioning availability exceeds 99% for CNES and PPP-B2b services. Therefore, the difference between the two services in application areas depends on the acquisition of augmentation information. However, BDSBAS, which concentrates on code observations, demonstrates inferior performance in real-time orbit, clock offset, positioning accuracy, and positioning availability when compared to the other two services. Weighted mean temperature (Tm) is an important parameter in the water vapor inversion of global navigation satellite systems (GNSS). High-precision Tm values can effectively improve the accuracy of GNSS precipitable water vapor. In this study, a new regional grid Tm empirical model called the RGTm model over China and the surrounding areas was proposed by combining ERA5 reanalysis data, radiosonde data, and TanDEM-X 90m products. In the process of model establishment, we considered the setting of the reference height in the height correction formula and the bias correction for the Tm lapse rate. Tm values derived from ERA5 and radiosonde data in 2019 were used as references to validate the performance of the RGTm model. At the same time, the GPT3, GGNTm, and uncorrected seasonal model were used for comparison. Results show that compared with the other three models, the accuracy of the RGTm model's Tm was improved by approximately 12.21% (15.32%), 1.17% (3.09%), and 2.31% (5.05%), respectively, when ERA5 (radiosonde) Tm data were used as references. GPS has become a very effective tool to remotely sense precipitable water vapor (PWV) information, which is important for weather forecasting and nowcasting. The number of geodetic GNSS stations set up in China has substantially increased over the last few decades. However, GPS PWV derivation requires surface pressure to calculate the precise zenith hydrostatic delay and weighted mean temperature to map the zenith wet delay to precipitable water vapor. GPS stations without collocated meteorological sensors can retrieve water vapor using standard atmosphere parameters, which lead to a decrease in accuracy. In this paper, a method of interpolating NWP reanalysis data to site locations for generating corresponding meteorological elements is explored over China. The NCEP FNL dataset provided by the NCEP (National Centers for Environmental Prediction) and over 600 observed stations from different sources was selected to assess the quality of the results. A one-year experiment was performed in our study. The types of stations selected include meteorological sites, GPS stations, radio sounding stations, and a sun photometer station. Compared with real surface measurements, the accuracy of the interpolated surface pressure and air temperature both meet the requirements of GPS PWV derivation in most areas; however, the interpolated surface air temperature exhibits lower precision than the interpolated surface pressure. At more than 96% of selected stations, PWV differences caused by the differences between the interpolation results and real measurements were less than 1.0 mm. Our study also indicates that relief amplitude exerts great influence on the accuracy of the interpolation approach. Unsatisfactory interpolation results always occurred in areas of strong relief. GPS PWV data generated from interpolated meteorological parameters are consistent with other PWV products (radio soundings, the NWP reanalysis dataset, and sun photometer PWV data). The differences between them were approximately 1~3 mm at most at our selected stations, and GPS data processing is the main factor influencing the agreement of the GPS PWV results with those of other methods. Using Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) observation data for developing a high-precision ionospheric Total Electron Content (TEC) model is one of the essential subjects in ionospheric physics research and the application of satellite navigation correction. In this study, we integrate the Empirical Orthogonal Function (EOF) method with the TEC data provided by the Center for Orbit Determination in Europe (CODE), and observed by the dense GNSS receivers operated by the Crustal Movement Observation Network of China (CMONOC) to construct a regional ionospheric TEC model over China. The EOF analysis of CODE TEC in China from 1998 to 2010 shows that the first-order EOF component accounts for 90.3813% of the total variation of the ionospheric TEC in China. Meanwhile, the average value of CODE TEC is consistent with the spatial and temporal distribution characteristics of the first-order EOF base function, which mainly reflects the latitude and diurnal variations of TEC in China. The first-order coefficient after EOF decomposition shows an obvious 11-year period and semi-annual variations. The maximum amplitude of semi-annual variation mainly appears in March and October, which is closely associated with the variation in geographical longitude, the semi-annual change of the low-latitude electric field, and the ionospheric fountain effect. The second-order coefficient has an evident annual variation, the minimum amplitude mainly occurs in March, August, and September, and the amplitude values in the high solar activity years are more significant than those in the low solar activity years. The third-order coefficient mainly shows the characteristics of annual variation, and the fourth-order coefficient shows the noticeable semi-annual and annual variations. The third and fourth-order coefficients are both modulated by the solar activity index F10.7. The ionospheric TEC model in China, driven by CMONOC real-time GNSS observation data, can better reflect the latitude, local time and seasonal variation characteristics of ionospheric TEC over China. In particular, it can clearly show the spring and autumn asymmetry of ionospheric TEC in the low latitudes. The root mean square error of the absolute error between the model and the actual observation is mainly distributed around 2.45 TECU (1 TECU = 1016 electrons/m2). Positioning of spacecraft (e.g., geostationary orbit (GEO), high elliptical orbit (HEO), and lunar trajectory) is crucial for mission completion. Instead of using ground control systems, global navigation satellite system (GNSS) can be an effective approach to provide positioning, navigation and timing service for spacecraft. In 2020, China finished the construction of the third generation of BeiDou navigation satellite system (BDS-3); this global coverage system will contribute better sidelobe signal visibility for spacecraft. Meanwhile, with more than 100 GNSS satellites, multi-GNSS navigation performance on the spacecraft is worth studying. In this paper, instead of using signal-in-space ranging errors, we simulate pseudorange observations with measurement noises varying with received signal powers. Navigation performances of BDS-3 and its combinations with other systems were conducted. Results showed that, owing to GEO and inclined geosynchronous orbit (IGSO) satellites, all three types (GEO, HEO, and lunar trajectory) of spacecraft received more signals from BDS-3 than from other navigation systems. Single point positioning (SPP) accuracy of the GEO and HEO spacecraft was 17.7 and 23.1 m, respectively, with BDS-3 data alone. Including the other three systems, i.e., GPS, Galileo, and GLONASS, improved the SPP accuracy by 36.2% and 19.9% for GEO and HEO, respectively. Navigation performance of the lunar probe was significantly improved when receiver sensitivity increased from 20 dB-Hz to 15 dB-Hz. Only dual- (BDS-3/GPS) or multi-GNSS (BDS-3, GPS, Galileo, GLONASS) could provide continuous navigation solutions with a receiver threshold of 15 dB-Hz. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The disturbances of the ionosphere caused by thunderstorms or lightning events in the troposphere have an impact on global navigation satellite system (GNSS) signals. Gravity waves (GWs) triggered by thunderstorms are one of the main factors that drive short-period Travelling Ionospheric Disturbances (TIDs). At mid-latitudes, ionospheric GWs can be detected by GNSS signals. However, at low latitudes, the multi-variability of the ionosphere leads to difficulties in identifying GWs induced by thunderstorms through GNSS data. Though disturbances of the ionosphere during low-latitude thunderstorms have been investigated, the explicit GW observation by GNSS and its propagation pattern are still unclear. In this paper, GWs with periods from 6 to 20 min are extracted from band-pass filtered GNSS carrier phase observations without cycle-slips, and 0.2–0.8 Total Electron Content Unit (TECU) magnitude perturbations are observed when the trajectories of ionospheric pierce points fall into the perturbed region. The propagation speed of 102.6–141.3 m/s and the direction of the propagation indicate that the GWs are propagating upward from a certain thunderstorm at lower atmosphere. The composite results of disturbance magnitude, period, and propagation velocity indicate that GWs initiated by thunderstorms and propagated from the troposphere to the ionosphere are observed by GNSS for the first time in the low-latitude region. Zhejiang province in China experienced an extreme climate phenomenon in August 2014 with temperature rises, sunshine duration decreases, and precipitation increases, particularly, the successive heavy rainfall events occurring from 16 to 20 August 2014 that contributed to this climate anomaly. This study investigates the spatial-temporal variation characteristics of precipitable water vapor (PWV) and the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) associated with this phenomenon. Multiple sources of PWV values derived from the Global Positioning System (GPS), Radiosonde (RS) and European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) ERA-Interim data are used with different spatiotemporal resolutions. The monthly averaged PWV in August 2014 exceeded the 95% percentiles of climatological value (53 mm) while the monthly averaged temperature was less than the 5% percentiles of climatological value (26.6 °C). Before the extreme precipitation, the PWV increased from the yearly averaged value of about 35 mm to more than 60 mm and gradually returned to the August climatological average of 50 mm after the precipitation ended. A large-scale atmospheric water vapor was partially conveyed by the warm wet air current of anticyclones which originated over the South China Sea (25° N, 130° E) and the Western Pacific Ocean. The monthly NDVI variation over the past 34 years (1982–2015) was investigated in this paper and the significant impact of extreme climate on vegetation growth in August 2014 was found. The extreme negative temperature anomaly and positive PWV anomaly are the major climate-driven factors affecting vegetation growth in the north and south of Zhejiang province with correlation coefficients of 0.83 and 0.72, respectively, while the extreme precipitation does not show any apparent impact on NDVI. This study investigated the nonlinear changes in the vertical motion of 411 GNSS reference stations situated in mainland China and assessed the influence of the environmental load on their vertical displacement. The researchers evaluated the effect of environmental load by calculating the change in annual cycle amplitude before and after its removal, focusing on its impact across regions with distinct foundation types. The results demonstrate that removing the environmental load led to a considerable reduction of approximately 50.25% in the annual cycle amplitude of vertical motion for GNSS reference stations in mainland China. This reduction in amplitude improved the positioning accuracy of the stations, with the highest WRMS reduction being 2.72 mm and an average reduction of 1.03 mm. The most significant impact was observed in the southwestern, northern, and northwestern regions, where the amplitude experienced a notable decrease. Conversely, the southeastern region exhibited a corresponding increase in amplitude. This article innovatively explored the effects of environmental loads on diverse foundation types. When categorizing GNSS reference stations based on their foundation type, namely, bedrock, 18 m soil layer, and 4–8 m soil layer stations, this study found that removing the environmental load resulted in reductions in annual cycle amplitudes of 49.37%, 59.61%, and 46.48%, respectively. These findings indicate that 18 m soil layer stations were more susceptible to environmental load-induced vertical motion. In conclusion, the impact of the environmental load was crucial when analyzing the vertical motion of GNSS reference stations in mainland China, as it was essential for establishing a high-precision coordinate reference framework and studying the tectonic structure of the region. One of the key goals of geodesy is to study the fine structure of the Earth's gravity field and construct a high-resolution gravity field model (GFM). Aiming at the current insufficient resolution problem of the EIGEN_6C4 model, the refined ultra-high degree models EIGEN_3660 and EIGEN_5480 are determined with a spectral expansion approach in this study, which is to augment EIGEN_6C4 model using topographic potential models (TPMs). A comparative spectral evaluation for EIGEN_6C4, EIGEN_3660, and EIGEN_5480 models indicates that the gravity field spectral powers of EIGEN_3660 and EIGEN_5480 models outperform the EIGEN_6C4 model after degree 2000. The augmented models EIGEN_3660 and EIGEN_5480 are verified using the deflection of the vertical (DOV) of China and Colorado, gravity data from Australia and mainland America, and GNSS/leveling in China. The validation results indicate that the accuracy of EIGEN_3660 and EIGEN_5480 models in determining height anomaly, DOV, and gravity anomaly outperform the EIGEN_6C4 model, and the EIGEN_5480 model has optimal accuracy. The accuracy of EIGEN_5480 model in determining south–north component and east–west component of the DOV in China has been improved by about 21.1% and 23.1% compared to the EIGEN_6C4 model, respectively. In the mountainous Colorado, the accuracy of EIGEN_5480 model in determining south–north component and east–west component of the DOV has been improved by about 28.2% and 35.2% compared to EIGEN_6C4 model, respectively. In addition, gravity value comparison results in Australia and mainland America indicate that the accuracy of the EIGEN_5480 model for deriving gravity anomalies is improved by 16.5% and 11.3% compared to the EIGEN_6C4 model, respectively. Precipitable water vapor (PWV) is a vitally important factor in atmospheric circulation. PWV is significant for forecasting extreme weather and understanding the dynamics of climate change. Comprehensively evaluating the performance of newly proposed remotely sensed water vapor products is crucial for guaranteeing their suitability for futural PWV applications. In this study, the accuracy of the recently established remotely sensed water vapor product from the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) satellite sensor on the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (SNPP) (VIIRS-PWV) platform within various regions of mainland China was evaluated via the PWV from Global Positioning System (GPS) observations. The GPS-derived PWV from 231 stations of the Crustal Movement Observation Network of China (CMONOC) from 2012 to 2018 was obtained through precise point positioning (PPP) techniques. The results showed that the mean value of the correlation coefficient (CC), the mean bias (MB), and the root-mean-square error (RMSE) between the VIIRS-PWV and the GPS-PWV were 0.92, −1.6 mm, and 4.7 mm, respectively. These values were comparable with the results of the PWV data derived from the Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) and Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) products. This indicates that the VIIRS product could provide PWV data with satisfactory accuracy for large-area scientific applications. Moreover, the MB and RMSE of the differences between the GPS-PWV and VIIRS-PWV showed obvious seasonal variations. The VIIRS-PWV generally performed better in winter (with the MB and RMSE values of 0.1 mm and 2.3 mm) than in summer (with the MB and RMSE values of −4.4 and 7.0 mm). Analysis among different regions revealed that the Central South (CS) region of China attained the largest mean RMSE value of 6.3 mm, and the North West (NW) region attained the smallest mean RMSE value of 3.8 mm. In addition, the southern region of China obtained a mean RMSE value of 5.6 mm, while that for the northern region of China was 3.9 mm. The advancements of Earth observations, remote sensing, communications and navigation augmentation based on low Earth orbit (LEO) platforms present strong requirements for accurate, real-time and autonomous navigation of LEO satellites. Precise onboard real-time orbit determination (RTOD) using the space-borne data of multiple global navigation satellite systems (multi-GNSS) becomes practicable along with the availability of multi-GNSS. We study the onboard RTOD algorithm and experiments by using America's Global Positioning System (GPS) and China's regional BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS-2) space-borne data of the FengYun-3C satellite. A new pseudo-ambiguity parameter, which combines the constant phase ambiguity, the orbit and clock offset error of the GPS/BDS broadcast ephemeris in the line-of-sight (LOS), is defined and estimated in order to reduce the negative effect of the LOS error on onboard RTOD. The analyses on the variation of the LOS error in the GPS/BDS broadcast ephemeris indicate that the pseudo-ambiguity parameter could be modeled as a random walk, and the setting of the power spectral density in the random walk model decides whether the pseudo-ambiguity can be estimated reasonably and the LOS error could be reduced or not. For different types of GPS/BDS satellites, the LOS errors show different variation characteristics, so the power spectral density should be set separately and differently. A numerical search approach is presented in this paper to find the optimal setting of the power spectral density for each type of GPS/BDS satellite by a series of tests. Based on the optimal stochastic model, a 3-dimensional (3D) real-time orbit accuracy of 0.7–2.0 m for position and 0.7–1.7 mm/s for velocity could be achieved only with dual-frequency BDS measurements and the broadcast ephemeris, while a notably superior orbit accuracy of 0.3–0.5 m for position and 0.3–0.5 mm/s for velocity is achievable using dual-frequency GPS/BDS measurements, due to the absorption effect of the estimated pseudo-ambiguity on the LOS error of the GPS/BDS broadcast ephemeris. Compared to using GPS-alone data, the GPS/BDS fusion only marginally improves the onboard RTOD orbit accuracy by about 1–3 cm, but the inclusion of BDS satellites increases the number of the tracked GNSS satellites and thus speeds up the convergence of the filter. Furthermore, the GPS/BDS fusion could help suppress the local orbit errors, ensure the orbit accuracy and improve the reliability and availability of the onboard RTOD when fewer GPS satellites are tracked in some anomalous arcs. The precise point positioning service on B2b signal (PPP-B2b) is a real-time decimeter-level positioning service provided by the BeiDou-3 Global Navigation Satellite System (BDS-3). The service provides users with high-precision orbit and clock corrections through geostationary orbit (GEO) satellites, which means that the PPP-B2b service would be unusable if GEO satellites were blocked. In this study, the performance of PPP-B2b corrections and real-time positioning results during outages of the PPP-B2b service are comprehensively investigated. The results showed that PPP can achieve satisfactory accuracy during outages of the PPP-B2b service by extending the nominal validity of the received PPP-B2b corrections. After extending the PPP-B2b corrections for 10 min, for BDS-3 medium earth orbit (MEO) satellites, the mean root-mean-square error (RMSE) values of the extended orbit were 0.16 m, 0.26 m, and 0.23 m in the radial, along-, and cross-track directions, respectively. The accuracy of the BDS-3 inclined geostationary orbit (IGSO) satellites was slightly worse than that of the BDS-3 MEO satellites; for Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites, the mean RMSE values of the extended orbit were 0.11 m, 0.45 m, and 0.33 m in the radial, along-, and cross-track directions, respectively. In terms of the extended clock, the mean standard deviation (STD) reached 0.17 ns, 0.20 ns, and 0.22 ns after 10 min for the BDS-3 MEO, BDS-3 IGSO, and GPS satellites, respectively. The positioning performance maintained with the extended corrections during the PPP-B2b service outage was evaluated based on five stations in and around China. Our experiments showed that, as long as the interruption time does not exceed 10 min, the real-time positioning with extended PPP-B2b corrections can achieve a comparable accuracy with that obtained following PPP-B2b correction. Since 23 June 2020, BDS-3 has been entirely operated and obtained the ability of global PNT (Positioning, Navigation, and Timing) services. Afterward, real-time Precise Point Positioning (PPP) service is available in China's surrounding areas via BDS-3 PPP-B2b signal. However, such a real-time PPP service cannot maintain the high accuracy and continuity of positioning solutions in challenging environments, such as urban environments. For that, we carried out a model by integrating between-satellite single-differenced (BSSD) PPP, a low-cost Inertial Navigation System (INS), and an odometer via an extended Kalman filter. The performance of this integration model was assessed with vehicle-borne data. Results demonstrated that (1) the position RMS (Root Mean Square) of BSSD PPP are 64.33 cm, 53.47 cm, and 154.11 cm. Compared with BSSD PPP, about 31.2%, 23.3%, and 27.3% position improvements can be achieved by using INS. Further enhancements of position RMS benefiting from the odometer are 1.34%, 1.41%, and 1.73% in the three directions. (2) Anyway, the accuracy of BSSD PPP/INS/Odometer tightly coupled integration is slightly higher than that of undifferenced PPP/INS/Odometer integration, with average improvement percentages of 7.71%, 3.09%, and 0.27%. Meanwhile, the performance of BSSD PPP/INS/Odometer integration during the periods with satellite outages is better than the undifferenced PPP-based solutions. (3) The improvements in attitudes from an odometer are more significant on heading angle than the other two attitudes, with percentages of 25.00%. (4) During frequent GNSS outage periods, the reduction in average maximum position drifts provided by INS are 18.01%, 8.95%, and 20.74%. After integrating with an odometer, the drifts can be furtherly decreased by 25.11%, 15.96%, and 20.69%. For attitude, about 41.67% reduction in average maximum drifts of heading angles is obtained. Atmospheric precipitable water vapor (PWV) is a key variable for weather forecast and climate research. Various techniques (e.g., radiosondes, global navigation satellite system, satellite remote sensing and reanalysis products by data assimilation) can be used to measure (or retrieve) PWV. However, gathering PWV data with high spatial and temporal resolutions remains a challenge. In this study, we propose a new empirical PWV grid model (called ASV-PWV) using the zenith wet delay from the Askne model and improved by the spherical harmonic function and vertical correction. Our method is convenient and enables the user to gain PWV data with only four input parameters (e.g., the longitude and latitude, time, and atmospheric pressure of the desired position). Profiles of 20 radiosonde stations in Qinghai Tibet Plateau, China, along with the latest publicly available C-PWVC2 model are used to validate the local performance. The PWV data from ASV-PWV and C-PWVC2 is generally consistent with radiosonde (the average annual bias is −0.44 mm for ASV-PWV and −1.36 mm for C-PWVC2, the root mean square error (RMSE) is 3.44 mm for ASV-PWV and 2.51 mm for C-PWVC2, respectively). Our ASV-PWV performs better than C-PWVC2 in terms of seasonal characteristics. In general, a sound consistency exists between PWV values of ASV-PWV and the fifth generation of European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts Atmospheric Reanalysis (ERA5) (total 7381 grid points in 2020). The average annual bias and RMSE are −0.73 mm and 4.28 mm, respectively. Global navigation satellite system (GNSS) signals are affected by refraction when traveling through the troposphere, which result in tropospheric delay. Generally, the tropospheric delay is estimated as an unknown parameter in GNSS data processing. With the increasing demand for GNSS real-time applications, high-precision tropospheric delay augmentation information is vital to speed up the convergence of PPP. In this research, we estimate the zenith tropospheric delay (ZTD) from 2018 to 2019 by static precise point positioning (PPP) using the fixed position mode; GNSS observations were obtained from the National Geomatics Center of China (NGCC). Firstly, ZTD outliers were detected, and data gaps were interpolated using the K-nearest neighbor algorithm (KNN). Secondly, The ZTD differences between the KNN and periodic model were employed as input datasets to train the long short-term memory (LSTM) neural network. Finally, LSTM forecasted ZTD differences and the ZTD periodic signals were combined to recover the final forecasted ZTD results. In addition, the forecasted ZTD results were applied in static PPP as a prior constraint to reduce PPP convergence time. Numerical results show that the average root-mean-square error (RMSE) of predicting ZTD is about 1 cm. The convergence time of the PPP which was corrected by the LSTM-ZTD predictions is reduced by 13.9, 22.6, and 30.7% in the summer, autumn, and winter, respectively, over GPT2-ZTD corrected PPP and unconstrained conventional PPP for different seasons. The process of soil freezing and thawing refers to the alternating phase change of liquid water and solid water in the soil, accompanied by a large amount of latent heat exchange. It plays a vital role in the land water process and is an important indicator of climate change. The Tibetan Plateau in China is known as the "roof of the world", and it is one of the most prominent physical characteristics is the freezing and thawing process of the soil. For the first time, this paper utilizes the spaceborne GNSS-R mission, i.e., CYGNSS (Cyclone Global Navigation Satellite System), to study the feasibility of monitoring the soil freeze-thaw (FT) cycles on the Tibetan Plateau. In the theoretical analysis part, model simulations show that there are abrupt changes in soil permittivities and surface reflectivities as the soil FT occurs. The CYGNSS reflectivities from January 2018 to January 2020 are compared with the SMAP FT state. The relationship between CYGNSS reflectivity and SMAP soil moisture within this time series is analyzed and compared. The results show that the effect of soil moisture on reflectivity is very small and can be ignored. The periodic oscillation change of CYGNSS reflectivity is almost the same as the changes in SMAP FT data. Freeze-thaw conversion is the main factor affecting CYGNSS reflectivity. The periodical change of CYGNSS reflectivity in the 2 years indicates that it is mainly caused by soil FT cycles. It is feasible to use CYGNSS to monitor the soil FT cycles in the Tibetan Plateau. Surface mass variations inferred from the Global Positioning System (GPS), and observed by the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) and GRACE Follow-On (GFO) complement each other in terms of spatial and temporal coverage. This paper presents an analysis of regional surface mass variations inverted from GPS vertical displacements under different density distributions of GPS stations, and compares the GPS-derived mass variations with GRACE/GFO inversion results in spatial and temporal domains. To this end, GPS vertical displacement data from a total of 85 permanent GPS stations of the Crustal Movement Observation Network of China (CMONOC), the latest GRACE/GFO RL06 spherical harmonic (SH) solutions and GRACE RL06 mascon solutions are used to investigate surface mass variations in four regions or basins, including the Yunnan Province (YNP), Min River Basin (MRB), Jialing River Basin (JLRB), and Wu River Basin (WRB) in Southwest China. Our results showed that the spatial distributions and seasonal characteristics of GPS-derived mass change time series agree well with those from GRACE/GFO observations, especially in regions with relatively dense distributions of GPS stations (e.g., in the YNP and MRB), but there are still obvious discrepancies between the GPS and GRACE/GFO results. Scale factor methods (both basin-scaled and pixel-scaled) were employed to reduce the amplitude discrepancies between GPS and GRACE/GFO results. The results also showed that the one-year gap between the GRACE and GFO missions can be bridged by scaled GPS-derived mass change time series in the four studied regions, especially in the YNP and MRB regions (with relatively dense distributions of GPS stations). Southeast China, a non-core region influenced by the El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO), has been seldom investigated before. However, the occurrence of ENSO will affect the redistribution of precipitation and the temperature (T) spatial pattern on a global scale. This condition will further lead to flood or drought disasters in Southeast China. Therefore, the method of monitoring the occurrence of ENSO is important and is the focus of this paper. The spatiotemporal characteristics of precipitable water vapor (PWV) and T are first analyzed during ENSO using the empirical orthogonal function (EOF). The results showed that a high correlation spatiotemporal consistency exist between PWV and T. The response thresholds of PWV and T to ENSO are determined by moving the window correlation analysis (MWCA). If the sea surface temperature anomaly (SSTA) at the Niño 3.4 region exceeded the ranges of (−1.17°C, 1.04°C) and (−1.15°C, 1.09°C), it could cause the anomalous change of PWV and T in Southeast China. Multichannel singular spectral analysis (MSSA) is introduced to analyze the multi-type signals (tendency, period, and anomaly) of PWV and T over the period of 1979–2017. The results showed that the annual abnormal signal and envelope line fluctuation of PWV and T agreed well in most cases with the change in SSTA. Therefore, a standard PWV and T index (SPTI) is proposed on the basis of the results to monitor ENSO events. The PWV and T data derived from the grid-based European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasting (ECMWF) reanalysis products and GNSS/RS stations in Southeast China were used to validate the performance of the proposed SPTI. Experimental results revealed that the time series of average SPTI calculated in Southeast China corresponded well to that of SSTA with a correlation coefficient of 0.66 over the period of 1979–2017. The PWV values derived from the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and radiosonde data at two specific stations (WUHN and 45004) were also used to calculate the SPTI. The results showed that the correlation coefficients between SPTI and SSTA were 0.73 and 0.71, respectively. Toxic metals have attracted great concern worldwide due to their toxicity and slow decomposition. Although metal concentrations can be accurately obtained with chemical methods, it is difficult to map metal distributions on a large scale due to their inherently low efficiency and high cost. Moreover, chemical analysis methods easily lead to secondary contamination. To address these issues, 110 topsoil samples were collected using a soil sampler, and positions for each sample were surveyed using a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receiver from a coal mine in northern China. Then, the metal contents were surveyed in a laboratory via a portable X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF) device, and GaoFen-5 (GF-5) satellite hyperspectral images were used to retrieve the spectra of the soil samples. Furthermore, a Savitzky–Golay (SG) filter and continuous wavelet transform (CWT) were selected to smooth and enhance the soil reflectance. Competitive adaptive reweighted sampling (CARS) and Boruta algorithms were utilized to identify the feature bands. The optimum two-stage method, consisting of the random forest (RF) and ordinary kriging (OK) methods, was used to infer the metal concentrations. The following outcomes were achieved. Firstly, both zinc (Zn) (68.07 mg/kg) and nickel (Ni) (26.61 mg/kg) surpassed the regional background value (Zn: 48.60 mg/kg, Ni: 19.5 mg/kg). Secondly, the optimum model of RF, combined with the OK (RFOK) method, with a relatively higher coefficient of determination (R2) (R2 = 0.60 for Zn, R2 = 0.30 for Ni), a lower root-mean-square error (RMSE) (RMSE = 12.45 mg/kg for Zn, RMSE = 3.97 mg/kg for Ni), and a lower mean absolute error (MAE) (MAE = 9.47 mg/kg for Zn, MAE = 3.31mg/kg for Ni), outperformed the other four models, including the RF, OK, inverse distance weighted (IDW) method, and the optimum model of RF combined with IDW (RFIDW) method in estimating soil Zn and Ni contents, respectively. Thirdly, the distribution of soil Zn and Ni concentrations obtained from the best-predicted method and the GF-5 satellite hyperspectral images was in line with the actual conditions. This scheme proves that satellite hyperspectral images can be used to directly estimate metal distributions, and the present study provides a scientific base for mapping heavy metal spatial distribution on a relatively large scale. The Loess Plateau is one of the three most severely affected geological disaster areas in China. Water sensitivity is the most significant feature of the loess. Under the action of continuous heavy rainfall, rainwater infiltrates the loess, resulting in a rapid increase in soil saturation and changes in soil moisture. This affects the shear strength of the soil and induces shallow loess landslides. Therefore, it is significant to our country's disaster prevention and mitigation efforts to effectively monitor the deformation and inducement of such landslides. At present, the global navigation satellite system (GNSS) is widely used in the field of landslide disaster monitoring as a technical means to directly obtain real-time three-dimensional vector deformation of the surface. At the same time, GNSS can also provide a steady stream of L-band microwave signals to obtain surface environmental information, such as soil moisture around the station. In past landslide disaster monitoring research, GNSS was only used to provide three-dimensional deformation information, and its ability to provide environmental information around the station was almost completely ignored. This study proposes a ground-based GNSS remote sensing comprehensive monitoring system integrating "three-dimensional deformation and soil moisture content" combined with a rainfall-type shallow loess landslide event in Linxia City. The ability of ground-based GNSS to comprehensively monitor shallow loess landslide disasters was analysed. Experiments show that GNSS can provide high-precision deformation time series characteristics and monitor the changes in soil moisture content around the station at the same time; the two have a certain response relationship, which can comprehensively evaluate the stability of shallow loess landslides. As heavy rainfall is a key factor affecting the change in soil water content, this study adds the atmospheric water vapour content calculated by ground-based GNSS refraction remote sensing in the discussion chapter and analyses the relationship between precipitable water vapour and rainfall in this area to give full play to ground-based GNSS remote sensing. In the role of landslide disaster monitoring, we hope to build a more comprehensive ground-based GNSS remote sensing monitoring system to better serve the monitoring of landslide disasters. As the largest groundwater drainage region in China, the per capita water resources in the North China Plain (NCP) account for only one-seventh of the country's available water resources. Currently, the NCP is experiencing a serious water shortage due to the overexploitation of groundwater resources and a subsequent series of natural disasters. Thus, accurate regional assessments and effective water resource management policies are of critical importance. To accomplish this phenomenon, the daily terrestrial water storage anomaly (TWSA) over the NCP is calculated from the combination of the GNSS vertical deformation sequences (seasonal items) and GRACE (trend items). The groundwater storage anomaly (GWSA) in the NCP is obtained by subtracting the canopy water, soil water, and snow water equivalent components from the TWSA. The inversion results of this study are verified by comparisons with the Global Land Data Assimilation System (GLDAS) data products. The elevated annual amplitude areas are located in Beijing and Tianjin, and the Pearson correlation coefficient (PCC), root mean square error (RMSE), and Nash–Sutcliffe efficiency (NSE) between the two GWSA results are 0.67, 4.01 cm, and 0.61, respectively. This indicates that the methods proposed in this study are reliable. Finally, the groundwater drought index was calculated for the period from 2011 to 2021, and the results showed that 2019 was the driest year, with a drought severity index value of −0.12, indicative of slightly moderate drought conditions. On the 15th of March 2021, the strongest sandstorm in a decade occurred in northern China, and had a great adverse impact on the natural environment and human health in northern China. Real-time monitoring of dust storms is becoming increasingly important. In order to effectively analyze the non-hydrostatic delay (ZNHD) anomaly during a sandstorm, the method based on GNSS-derived tropospheric ZNHD residual to monitor the sandstorm is proposed at the same time. We studied the relationship between ZNHD/PWV and PM10/PM2.5 in Beijing, Changchun, Pingliang and Zhongwei before and after sandstorms. The ZNHD time series was then decomposed by singular spectrum analysis (SSA) and the residuals were obtained. The relationship between the GNSS-derived ZNHD residual and PM10 was analyzed. The results show that the impact of the sandstorm on PM10 is greater than that on PM2.5. Before the sandstorm, the correlation between PM10 and ZNHD was low, less than 0.25. When the sandstorm occurred, the correlation between PM10 and ZNHD increased significantly, and the maximum was greater than 0.7. When the sandstorm ended, the correlation between PM10 and ZNHD decreased significantly. Through the relationship between the ZNHD residual and PM10, it can be found that when the peak-to-peak values of the ZNHD residual are all above 80 mm, sandstorms may occur. But Rainfall, snowfall, haze and other abnormal weather can also lead to ZNHD anomalies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Data fusion is an effective method to obtain high-precision and high-spatiotemporal-resolution precipitable water vapor (PWV) products, which play an important role in understanding climate change and meteorological monitoring. However, existing fusion methods have some shortcomings, such as ignoring the applicability of the model space or the high complexity of model operation. In this study, the high-precision and high-temporal-resolution Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) PWV was used to calibrate and optimize the ERA5 PWV product of the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts Reanalysis 5 (ERA5) with high spatial resolution to improve its accuracy, and its applicability was verified at the spatiotemporal scale. First, this study obtained accurate GNSS PWV from meteorological data from stations and used it as the true value to analyze the distribution of the ERA5 PWV in mainland China. The results showed that the ERA5 PWV showed significant spatial and temporal differences. Then, a backpropagation neural network (BPNN) fusion correction model with additional constraints was established. The correction results showed that the bias of the ERA5 PWV mainly fluctuated near 0, the correlation between the ERA5 PWV and GNSS PWV was increased to 0.99, and the positive improvement rate of the root-mean-square error (RMSE) was 95%. In the temporal scale validation, the RMSE of the ERA5 PWV decreased from 2.05 mm to 1.67 mm, an improvement of 18.54%. In the spatial scale validation, the RMSE of the four seasons decreased by 0.26–80% (spring), 0.28–70.71% (summer), 0.28–45.23% (autumn), and 0.30–40.75% (winter). Especially in the summer and plateau mountainous areas where the ERA5 PWV performance was poor, the model showed suitable stability. Finally, the fusion model was used to generate a new PWV product, which improved the accuracy of ERA5 PWV on the basis of ensuring the spatial resolution. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Extensive observation collection, unified and rigorous data processing, and accurate construction of the station motion model are the three essential elements for the accuracy and reliability of the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) velocity field. GNSS data reprocessing not only can weaken the influence of untrue nonlinear site signals caused by imperfect models but also can eliminate the displacement offset caused by frame transformation, solution strategy, and model change. Based on the new repro3 criteria of the International GNSS Service (IGS), we process rigorously GNSS observations of continental China from the period 2000 to 2020 to refine GNSS station secular velocities and analyze the present-day crustal deformation in continental China. The main contributions of this work included the followings. Firstly, the repro3 algorithm and model are used to uniformly and rigorously process the two-decade GNSS historical observations to obtain more reliable GNSS coordinate time series with mm-level precision. Combined with the historical records of major earthquakes in continental China, we build a GNSS time series model considering nonlinear factors (velocity, offset, period, co-seismic/post-seismic deformation) to extract GNSS horizontal velocity field whose root mean square (RMS) mean is 0.1 mm/a. Secondly, the GNSS horizontal grid velocity field in continental China is interpolated using the gpsgridder method (the minimum radius is set to 16, and the Poisson's ratio is set to 0.5). Estimation and analysis of the crustal strain rate solution lead to the conclusion that the strain degree in West China (the high strain region is mainly located in the Qinghai Tibet Plateau and Tianshan Mountains) is much more intense than that in the east (the main strain rate is less than 5 nstrain/year). In addition, most strong earthquakes in the Chinese mainland occurred on active blocks and their boundary faults with large changes in the GNSS velocity field and strain field. Then, an improved K-means++ clustering analysis method is proposed to divide active blocks using GNSS horizontal velocity field. Furthermore, different relative motion models of different blocks are constructed using the block division results. Among them, the Eurasian block has the lowest accuracy (the RMS of residual velocity in the east and north directions are 5.60 and 9.65 mm/a, respectively), and the China block 7 has the highest accuracy (the RMS mean of relative velocity in the east and north directions are 2.60 and 2.65 mm/a, respectively). More observations (2260+ sites), longer time (20 years), and updated criteria (Repro3) are to finely obtain the GNSS velocity field in continental China, and depict crustal deformation and active block with the gpsgridder and improved K-means++ methods. China's BDS-3 global navigation satellite system has been built and is providing official open Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) service with full operational capability (FOC) since July 2020. The main new civil B1C and B2a ranging code signals are broadcasted on the two carriers with central frequencies of 1575.42 MHz and 1176.45 MHz, which were shared by other GNSSs. Compared with traditional signals, such as GPS L1 C/A and BDS B1I, the new civil signals have better modulation and wider bandwidth to be expected to achieve a better range performance. In order to evaluate code ranging accuracies directly, a zero-baseline experiment using a geodetic GNSS antenna and a four-channel intermediate frequency (IF) signal recorder was conducted. Two channels were used to receive the signals with a central frequency of 1575.42 MHz at a 62 MHz sampling rate, and the other two channels are for 1176.45 MHz. The raw IF data were post-processed using a software-defined receiver (SDR) to compute the code signal path differences between two channels with the same frequencies. Compared with the traditional hardware receiver, SDR has the characteristics of flexible use and good operability, but its running speed is slow. The root-mean-square (RMS) and bias values of the path differences from BDS B1C, BDS B2a, and GPS L5C were used to evaluate their accuracies. The results show that there is a weak negative correlation between the satellite elevation and the ranging accuracy when the satellite elevation ranges from 30° to 90°. The ranging accuracy of the B1C signal is lower than that of B2a, which may be caused by different code rates, bandwidth, and signal structure. The GPS L5C is used for precision analysis as a comparison. It shows that the code signal path differences accuracy of L5C is close to the B2a. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ionospheric total electron content (TEC) is important data for ionospheric morphology, and also an important parameter for ionospheric correction in Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) precise positioning, navigation, and radio science. In this study, we present a data assimilation model for regional ionosphere based on a local ensemble Kalman filter (LEnKF) with the International Reference Ionosphere 2016 (IRI-2016) model as the background, to assimilate ionospheric TEC observations from GNSS. To demonstrate the results, the TEC estimates from the Crustal Movement Observation Network of China (CMONOC), which is about 260 stations in China, are applied as observation. The assessments are performed against the TEC estimates from BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) geostationary earth orbit (GEO) and against the final products from the Center for Orbit Determination in Europe (CODE). The assimilation results are in good agreement with BDS GEO TEC and the CODE TEC on a quiet or disturbed day. The correlation coefficient after assimilation is increased by about 17% compared with that before assimilation, and the RMSE after assimilation is decreased by about 42% compared with that before assimilation. Furthermore, the assimilated method is also evaluated in the single-frequency precise point positioning (PPP). The experimental results indicate that the PPP/Assimilated method can improve the GNSS positioning accuracy more effectively in comparison to the PPP/CODE. Digital elevation models (DEMs) are widely used across a range of fields. Several open-source global DEMs have been released, including the advanced land observing satellite world 3D 30 m DEM (AW3D30DEM), advanced spaceborne thermal emission and reflection radiometer global DEM (ASTER GDEM), shuttle radar topography mission DEM (SRTMDEM), and TerraSAR-X for digital elevation measurement (TanDEM-X). ASTER and SRTM are the most widely used DEMs, while the newer models AW3D30DEM and TanDEM-X are becoming increasingly popular. Many studies have evaluated the qualities of these DEMs; however, few multi-regional studies have been conducted in China. To comprehensively and systematically evaluate the qualities of these DEMs in China, the vertical accuracies of AW3D, ASTER, STRM (all 30 m), and TanDEM-X (90 m) were tested across 16 regions in China. Using high-precision global positioning system control points for reference, error values were determined by subtracting these reference values from corresponding global DEM elevation values. As the study only covered flat areas (slope < 5°), slope was treated as a controlled variable. After assessing the impacts of the slope aspect and land cover type, variations in vertical accuracy were examined with respect to longitude and latitude. Overall, TanDEM-X exhibited the highest stability and accuracy, AW3D30 and SRTM also performed well, while ASTER exhibited the worst accuracy. The DEMs showed relationships with the slope aspect and land cover type, assuming that slope had no influence on vertical accuracy. In general, vertical accuracy in high latitudes was slightly better than that in low latitudes, and no evident variations were observed with respect to longitude. This study is the first to conduct DEM analysis across many regions in China from open sources. Precipitable water vapor can be estimated from the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signal's zenith wet delay (ZWD) by multiplying a conversion factor, which is a function of weighted mean temperature ( T m ) over the GNSS station. Obtaining Tm is an important step in GNSS precipitable water vapor (PWV) conversion. In this study, aiming at the problem that Tm is affected by space and time, observations from seven radiosonde stations in the Yangtze River Delta region of China during 2015−2016 were used to establish both linear and nonlinear multifactor regional Tm model (RTM). Compared with the Bevis model, the results showed that the bias of yearly one-factor RTM, two-factor RTM and three-factor RTM was reduced by 0.55 K, 0.68 K and 0.69 K, respectively. Meanwhile, the RMSE of yearly one-factor, two-factor and three-factor RTM was reduced by 0.56 K, 0.80 K and 0.83 K, respectively. Compared with the yearly three-factor linear RTM, the mean bias and RMSE of the linear seasonal three-factor RTMs decreased by 0.06 K and 0.10 K, respectively. The precision of nonlinear seasonal three-factor RTMs is comparable to linear seasonal three-factor RTMs, but the expressions of the linear RTMs are easier to use. Therefore, linear seasonal three-factor RTMs are more suitable for calculating Tm and are recommended to use for PWV conversion in the Yangtze River Delta region. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

High-precision orbits of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites are essential for many scientific applications, such as assessing the change in current global mean sea level, estimating the coefficients of gravity field, and so on. How to determinate the high-precision orbits for LEO satellites has gradually become an important research focus. HY2D is a new altimetry satellite of China, which is equipped with a Global Positioning System (GPS) and the third generations of the BeiDou Global Navigation Satellite System (BDS-3) in order to guarantee the reliability of orbital precision in radar altimetry mission. Therefore, this study adopts one month of spaceborne data to conduct the research of precise orbit determination (POD) for the HY2D satellite. Our analysis results are: (1) The standard deviation of residuals for the HY2D satellite based on spaceborne BDS and GPS data are 9.12 mm and 8.53 mm, respectively, and there are no significant systematic errors in these residuals. (2) The comparison results with Doppler Orbitography and Radio-positioning Integrated by Satellite (DORIS)-derived orbits indicate that the HY2D satellite, using spaceborne BDS and GPS data, can achieve the radial accuracy of 1.4~1.5 cm, and the mean three-dimensional (3D) accuracy are 5.3 cm and 4.3 cm, respectively, which can satisfy high-precision altimetry applications. The characteristics and performance of satellite clocks are important to the positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) services of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) users. Although China's BeiDou-3 Navigation Satellite System (BDS-3) has been fully operational for more than one year, there is still a lack of comprehensive research on the onboard clocks of the entire BDS-3 constellation. In this study, the precise clock products of GeoForschungsZentrum (GFZ) from day-of-year (DOY) 1, 2021 to DOY 300, 2021 were used to analyze the characteristics and performance of BDS-3 onboard clocks from the following aspects: clock bias, frequency, drift rate, fitting residuals, periodicity, and frequency stability. Compared with BDS-2, the clock quality of BDS-3 satellites has been greatly improved, but there are still jumps in the clock offsets and frequency series of BDS-3 clocks. The drift rate of BDS-3 clocks varies within the range between − 2 × 10 − 18   and   2 × 10 − 18   s / s 2 . The daily model fitting residuals of passive hydrogen masers (PHM) on BDS-3 medium Earth orbit (MEO), inclined geosynchronous orbit (IGSO), and geostationary (GEO) satellites are 0.15, 0.28, and 0.46 ns, respectively. The overlapping Allan deviation (OADEV) of BDS-3 MEO clocks is 4 . 0   ×   10 − 14   s / s at a time interval of 1000 s. The PHMs on BDS-3 MEO satellites exhibit fewer periodic signals than those of Rb clocks. In addition, the precise clock offsets of the BDS-3 PHMs carried on the MEO, IGSO, and GEO satellites show different periodicities, which are similar to those of the corresponding types of BDS-2 satellites. The Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) plays an important role in retrieving high temporal–spatial resolution precipitable water vapor (PWV) and its applications. The weighted mean temperature (Tm) is a key parameter for the GNSS PWV estimation, which acts as the conversion factor from the zenith wet delay (ZWD) to the PWV. The Tm is determined by the air pressure and water vapor pressure, while it is not available nearby most GNSS stations. The empirical formular is often applied for the GNSS station surface temperature (Ts) but has a lower accuracy. In this paper, the temporal and spatial distribution characteristics of the coefficients of the linear Tm-Ts model are analyzed, and then a piecewise-linear Tm-Ts relationship is established for each GPS station using radiosonde data collected from 2011 to 2019. The Tm accuracy was increased by more than 10% and 20% for 86 and 52 radiosonde stations, respectively. The PWV time series at 377 GNSS stations from the infrastructure construction of national geodetic datum modernization and Crustal Movement Observation Network of China (CMONC) were further obtained from the GPS observations and meteorological data from 2011 to 2019. The PWV accuracy was improved when compared with the Bevis model. Furthermore, the daily and monthly average values, long-term trend, and its change characteristics of the PWV were analyzed using the high-precision inversion model. The results showed that the averaged PWV was higher in Central-Eastern China and Southern China and lower in Northwest China, Northeast China, and North China.
