Apolipoprotein E (ApoE) has been associated with several diseases including Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's and multiple sclerosis. ApoE also has documented immunomodulatory functions. We investigated gene expression in circulating monocytes and in bone marrows of patients with visceral leishmaniasis (VL) living in an endemic area in Bihar, India, and contrasted these with control healthy subjects or other diagnostic bone marrows from individuals in the same region. Samples from VL patients were obtained prior to initiating treatment. Our study revealed significant upregulated expression of the apoE transcript in patients with VL. Furthermore, the levels of ApoE protein were elevated in serum samples of subjects with VL compared with healthy endemic controls. Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) is a severe and often fatal form of leishmaniasis caused by Leishmania donovani in the Indian sub-continent. Post Kala-azar Dermal Leishmaniasis (PKDL) is a late cutaneous manifestation of VL, typically occurring after apparent cure of VL, but sometimes even without a prior history of VL in India. PKDL serves as a significant yet neglected reservoir of infection and plays a crucial role in the transmission of the disease, posing a serious threat to the VL elimination program in the Indian sub-continent. Therefore, the eradication of PKDL should be a priority within the current VL elimination program aimed at achieving a goal of less than 1 case per 10,000 in the population at the district or sub-district levels of VL endemic areas. To accomplish this, a comprehensive understanding of the pathogenesis of PKDL is essential, as well as developing strategies for disease management. This review provides an overview of the current status of diagnosis and treatment options for PKDL, highlighting our current knowledge of the immune responses underlying disease development and progression. Additionally, the review discusses the impact of PKDL on elimination programs and propose strategies to overcome this challenge and achieve the goal of elimination. By addressing the diagnostic and therapeutic gaps, optimizing surveillance and control measures, and implementing effective intervention strategies, it is possible to mitigate the burden of PKDL and facilitate the successful elimination of VL in the Indian sub-continent. Simple Summary: The natural astaxanthin from algae (marketed only 5%) is the most powerful antioxidant for health compared to the synthetic that shares about 95% of the market. Therefore, there is a huge demand for natural astaxanthin from algae, which can accumulate significantly higher astaxanthin. We have isolated a new algal strain from the Himalayan region, Northern India, which was identified as Dysmorphococcus globosus-HI based on morphological and molecular analysis. Its growth conditions were optimized in the laboratory. Among the seven different tested culture media, MBBM and 3N-BBM provided the maximum growth and astaxanthin production. The highest biomass production (1.14 g L−1) was observed in the modified BBM medium. It is an excellent source of producing natural astaxanthin, to a tune of 391 mg L−1, which is greater than any other known algal species. The productivity of astaxanthin was about 15.6 mg L−1 d−1 under normal conditions, which is higher than the commercially used H. pluvialis species. It is the first report of natural astaxanthin production from D. globosus-HI that has great potential for commercial application. Synthesized astaxanthin (ASX), stereoisomers of 3S,3′R, 3R,3′R, and 3S,3′S, have over 95% market share and have relatively poor antioxidant and bioactivity properties, with persistent issues in terms of biological functions, health benefits, and biosafety if compared to natural ASX. Bioprospecting of new microalgal strains could be vital for a new source of powerful antioxidant (ASX). In this study, a new algal strain was isolated from the Indian foothills of the Himalayas. Its identity was discerned by morphological and DNA barcode studies. It is a unicellular spheroidal cell-shaped alga with 100–200 μm diameter. The isolate has 93.4% similarity to Dysmorphococcus globosus species based on 18S-rDNA phylogenetic analysis and named as D. globosus-HI (HI stands for Himalayan India). Its growth and major cellular components (carotenoids, carbohydrates, protein, lipids, fatty acid profile, and ASX) were optimized using the seven different culture media. The highest biomass (1.14 g L−1) was observed in the MBBM medium, with a specific growth rate (0.087 day−1), division/day (0.125), and cellular yield (6.16 x 106 cells/mL). The highest carotenoids (1.56 mg g−1), lipids (32.5 mg L−1), and carbohydrates (135.62 mg L−1) were recorded in the 3N-BBM medium. The maximum ω3-FAs (17.78%), ω6-FAs (23.11%), and ω9-FAs (7.06%) were observed in MBBM, JW, and BG-11 medium respectively. The highest amount of antioxidant ASX was accumulated in the 3N-BBM medium (391 mg L−1). It is more than any other known algal species used in the production of natural ASX. The characterization of ground targets from a remotely sensed Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) image is addressed by polarimetric decomposition. The polarimetric SAR (PolSAR) decomposition measures the contribution of total backscatter from different scattering mechanisms using SAR images. The ambiguities present in the retrieval of scattering are the major problems associated with the model-based decomposition which could be reduced with a combination of interferometric coherence and PolSAR backscatter. The objective of this study is to improve the polarimetric decomposition model for identifying the scattering mechanisms based on the Polarimetric SAR Interferometry (PolInSAR) coherence for natural and manmade features. In this paper, we have proposed a model-based polarimetric decomposition using PolInSAR decorrelation. The PolInSAR decorrelation is exploited here to distinguish the time-varying and invariant scatterers present in the ground. The volume scattering power was calculated using the proposed decorrelation parameter which is the combination of PolInSAR coherence and decorrelation. The proposed algorithm has been tested on spaceborne multifrequency SAR datasets consisting of X-band TerraSAR-X and TerraSAR-X add-on for Digital Elevation Measurement (TanDEM-X), C-band Radarsat-2, and phased array L-band synthetic aperture radar-2 (PALSAR-2) data of advanced land observing satellite-2 (ALOS-2) PolInSAR data for the Dehradun region, India. The results show that there is a remarkable reduction in the ambiguities present in the identification of the scattering mechanism from the SAR image by using the proposed decorrelation-based decomposition model. Moreover, the algorithm is tested on X-band TerraSAR-X and TanDEM-X data of the Haridwar area and Rudrapur area, Uttarakhand, India to analyse the potential of the proposed decomposition technique in representing different manmade and natural features. Aim: This study was aimed to evaluate the association of maternal determinants with birth weight (BW) of babies in tea garden workers (TGW) and housewives (HW). Methods: A total of 175 subjects were recruited from Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh, India. In this cross‐sectional study, maternal determinants, BW of babies and placental weight were explored in TGW (n = 102) and HW (n = 73). These factors were assessed and correlated by logistic regression models. Results: A higher incidence of low birth weight (LBW) was found in mothers working in the tea garden (48.04%) as compared to HW (10.96%). Activity of plucking of leaves in tea garden by women had a higher risk for LBW babies (adjusted odd ratio [AOR] 4.33, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.38–13.57, P = 0.012) and decreased placental weight (AOR 11.42, 95% CI 1.18–126.02, P = 0.036) as compared to HW considered as reference group. Women who worked continuously in the tea garden during 9 months of pregnancy also revealed an elevated risk for LBW (AOR 5.32, 95% CI 1.34–21.09, P = 0.017). Conclusion: This study suggests the activity of plucking of tea leaves by women is associated with LBW of babies and decreased placental weight. Particularly, if mothers worked continuously in the tea garden during 9 months of pregnancy, it also increased the risk of delivering LBW babies. This exploratory study provides an important platform for further prospective studies, which could be focused on the potential consequences of maternal occupational exposures during pregnancy on fetal development. Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) caused by Leishmania donovani remains of public health concern in rural India. Those at risk of VL are also at risk of other neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) including soil transmitted helminths. Intestinal helminths are potent regulators of host immune responses sometimes mediated through cross-talk with gut microbiota. We evaluate a meta-taxonomic approach to determine the composition of prokaryotic and eukaryotic gut microflora using amplicon-based sequencing of 16S ribosomal RNA (16S rRNA) and 18S rRNA gene regions. The most abundant bacterial taxa identified in faecal samples from Bihar State India were Prevotella (37.1%), Faecalibacterium (11.3%), Escherichia-Shigella (9.1%), Alloprevotella (4.5%), Bacteroides (4.1%), Ruminococcaceae UCG-002 (1.6%), and Bifidobacterium (1.5%). Eukaryotic taxa identified (excluding plant genera) included Blastocystis (57.9%; Order: Stramenopiles), Dientamoeba (12.1%; Family: Tritrichomonadea), Pentatrichomonas (10.1%; Family: Trichomonodea), Entamoeba (3.5%; Family: Entamoebida), Ascaridida (0.8%; Family: Chromodorea; concordant with Ascaris by microscopy), Rhabditida (0.8%; Family: Chromodorea; concordant with Strongyloides), and Cyclophyllidea (0.2%; Order: Eucestoda; concordant with Hymenolepis). Overall alpha (Shannon’s, Faith’s and Pielou’s indices) and beta (Bray-Curtis dissimilarity statistic; weighted UniFrac distances) diversity of taxa did not differ significantly by age, sex, geographic subdistrict, or VL case (N = 23) versus endemic control (EC; N = 23) status. However, taxon-specific associations occurred: (i) Ruminococcaceae UCG- 014 and Gastranaerophilales_uncultured bacterium were enriched in EC compared to VL cases; (ii) Pentatrichomonas was more abundant in VL cases than in EC, whereas the reverse occurred for Entamoeba. Across the cohort, high Escherichia-Shigella was associated with reduced bacterial diversity, while high Blastocystis was associated with high bacterial diversity and low Escherichia-Shigella. Individuals with high Blastocystis had low Bacteroidaceae and high Clostridiales vadin BB60 whereas the reverse held true for low Blastocystis. This scoping study provides useful baseline data upon which to develop a broader analysis of pathogenic enteric microflora and their influence on gut microbial health and NTDs generally. To develop effective adaptation strategies for climate change, particularly in regions where water is scarce, it is crucial to comprehend and quantify how hydrological responses are influenced by anthropogenic activities and climate change. The primary concern nowadays is to identify the hydrologic sensitive and resilient catchment under these diverse conditions. Thus, a framework is developed in this study to analyse the hydrologic sensitivity and resiliency of a catchment incorporating the elasticity-based Budyko approach. The developed framework is applied to three neighbouring catchments (Brahmani, Baitarani, and Subarnarekha) in eastern India that have received less attention in light of resiliency and sensitivity perspectives. The Budyko approach is first applied using hydro-climatic records of historical phase (1979–2018) and then extended for future phase (2025–2064) under four different Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs) (1-2.6, 2-4.5, 3-7.0 and 5-8.5) of Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6) projections which will provide new insights to the hydrological community. The results highlight that streamflow variations of the Subarnarekha is more sensitive to anthropogenic activities in all time phases. In contrast, the Brahmani and Baitarani are more sensitive to climate change in future phases. During historical phase, the Brahmani and Baitarani are identified to be resilient catchments with high water yield and dry climate, whereas the Subarnarekha is found to be sensitive catchment, exhibiting low water yield and dry climate. However, in future phase, all three catchments are predicted to be resilient, characterized by high water yield and wet climate. The major inference from this study is excess anthropogenic activities can disrupt the anticipated hydrological functioning of a catchment, particularly under critical climatic conditions, which can result in decreasing hydrological resiliency. The finding of this study mainly highlights the response of a hydrological system to climate change and anthropogenic activities to explore the approach of sensitivity and resiliency from a socio-hydrological perspective. Background: Poisoning is a major public health problem worldwide, with thousands of deaths occurring every year, mainly in the developing countries. India, holding 70% of agricultural land, accounts for one third of pesticide poisoning cases in the third world, the farm workers being the worst affected. Most of the poisonings occur due to deliberate self-ingestion of the poison. Organophosphorus (OP) compounds occupy the greatest burden of poisoning related morbidity and mortality. The present study was aimed to know the profile of various poisoning cases admitted to Emergency Department in District Hospital, Chamarajanagar. Objectives: The main objectives of this study were to determine the profile of poisoning cases reported to District Hospital, Chamarajanagar and to assess their pattern and outcome. Methodology: A record based retrospective study for a period of 3 years i.e., from 1st January 2012 to 31st December 2014 was conducted in the District Hospital, Chamarajanagar and the data regarding Age, Gender, Residence, Time elapsed after intake, Type of poison, Manner and route of poisoning, Duration of hospitalization and Outcome were collected in a pre-structured proforma. The data was analyzed using standard statistical methods. Results: Total number of medico-legal cases reported to the Casualty, District Hospital, Chamarajanagar during the study period was 7653. Out of the 7653 cases, 960 cases were due to poisoning, which accounts to 12.5%. Among the 960 cases studied, 64.7% were males (n=621) and the age group between 19yrs to 30yrs constituted the major contributors (48.5%) for poisoning cases. Irritant poisons (70.3%) were the most common type of poisons encountered in our study, with Organo-phosphorus compounds (23.3%) being the commonest sub-type. Conclusion: This study highlights the trends of poisoning cases admitted to the District Hospital, Chamarajanagar which clearly indicates the high risk population involved and the common poisons encountered in these region. The genus Cololejeunea (Spruce) Schiffn. is one of the largest genera of the Lejeuneaceae, represented by 436 taxa in the world dissevered in to 13 subgenera (Söderström et al., 2016). The members of this genus are predominantly found in the wet tropics, subtropics and in some oceanic warm temperate areas where they grow mostly in foliicolous condition, but they also grow as epiphyte and on other substratum too (Pócs and Piippo, 2011). In India, the genus is represented by 56 species and 1 variety (Singh et al., 2016; Manju et al., 2017). An overview of subgenus Aphanolejeunea of Cololejeunea was presented by Pócs and Bernecker (2009) wherein 43 binomials accepted under it. Seven taxa of subgenus Aphanolejeunea namely, Cololejeunea diaphana A. Evans [formerly C. truncatifolia (Horik.) Mizut.], C. grossepapillosa (Horik.) Pócs, C. hyalina G. Asthana & S.C. Srivast., C. karnatakensis G. Asthana & S.C. Srivast., C. microscopica var. exigua (A. Evans) Bernecker & Pócs and C. nilgiriensis G. Asthana & S.C. Abstract: The marine based algal biofuel may be the best possible options for future energy, particularly for India where freshwater and land resources are limited. We have characterized a novel marine microalga, isolated from an Indian Ocean using genotypic and biochemical studies, which contain high lipids (48%) on dry wt. basis, among marine-microalgae reported from the Indian subcontinent. The classification of new species based on DNA barcodes studies using 16S rRNA and 23S rRNA has indicated its genetic similarity to green algae Parachlorella kessleri. Subsequently, FAME analysis has showed that it contain about 43%, saturated fatty acids, which makes new algal species highly suitable for further exploration and commercial production of the biodiesel. However, over the years, Indian Police while performing its administration of criminal justice process in the country have also earned some bad name due to showing its disrespect to human rights norms. Police atrocities and violation human rights become the common feature with image of Indian police. Insensitive behaviour of police towards human rights also causes the loosing of public trust on police. Spaceborne and airborne polarimetric synthetic-aperture radar interferometry (PolInSAR) data have been extensively used for forest parameter retrieval. The PolInSAR models have proven their potential in the accurate measurement of forest vegetation height. Spaceborne monostatic multifrequency data of different SAR missions and the Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation (GEDI)-derived forest canopy height map were used in this study for vegetation height retrieval. This study tested the performance of PolInSAR complex coherence-based inversion models for estimating the vegetation height of the forest ranges of Doon Valley, Uttarakhand, India. The inversion-based forest height obtained from the three-stage inversion (TSI) model had higher accuracy than the coherence amplitude inversion (CAI) model-based estimates. The vegetation height values of GEDI-derived canopy height map did not show good relation with field-measured forest height values. It was found that, at several locations, GEDI-derived forest height values underestimated the vegetation height. The statistical analysis of the GEDI-derived estimates with field-measured height showed a high root mean square error (RMSE; 5.82 m) and standard error (SE; 5.33 m) with a very low coefficient of determination (R2; 0.0022). An analysis of the spaceborne-mission-based forest height values suggested that the L-band SAR has great potential in forest height retrieval. TSI-model-based forest height values showed lower p-values, which indicates the significant relation between modelled and field-measured forest height values. A comparison of the results obtained from different SAR systems is discussed, and it is observed that the L-band-based PolInSAR inversion gives the most reliable result with low RMSE (2.87 m) and relatively higher R2 (0.53) for the linear regression analysis between the modelled tree height and the field data. These results indicate that higher wavelength PolInSAR datasets are more suitable for tree canopy height estimation using the PolInSAR inversion technique. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Surface soil moisture has a wide application in climate change, agronomy, water resources, and in many other domain of science and engineering. Measurement of soil moisture at high spatial and temporal resolution at regional and global scale is needed for the prediction of flood, drought, planning and management of agricultural productivity to ensure food security. Recent advancement in microwave remote sensing, especially after the launch of Sentinel operational satellites has enabled the scientific community to estimate soil moisture at higher spatial and temporal resolution with greater accuracy. This study evaluates the potential of Sentinel-1A satellite images to estimate soil moisture in a semi-arid region. Exactly at the time when satellite passes over the study area, we have collected soil samples at 37 different locations and measured the soil moisture from 5 cm below the ground surface using ML3 theta probe. We processed the soil samples in laboratory to obtain volumetric soil moisture using the oven dry method. We found soil moisture measured from calibrated theta probe and oven dry method are in good agreement with Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) 0.025 m 3 /m 3 and coefficient of determination (R 2 ) 0.85. We then processed Sentinel-1A images and applied modified Dubois model to calculate relative permittivity of the soil from the backscatter values ( σ ∘ ). The volumetric soil moisture at each pixel is then calculated by applying the universal Topp's model. Finally, we masked the pixels whose Normalised Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) value is greater than 0.4 to generate soil moisture map as per the Dubois NDVI criterion. Our modelled soil moisture accord with the measured values with RMSE = 0.035 and R 2 = 0.75. We found a small bias in the modelled soil moisture ( 0.02 m 3 / m 3 ). However, this has reduced significantly ( 0.001 m 3 / m 3 ) after applying a bias correction based on Cumulative Distribution Function (CDF) matching. This study estimates the photovoltaic (PV) energy production from the rooftop solar plant of the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) and the impact of clouds and aerosols on the PV energy production based on earth observation (EO)-related techniques and solar resource modeling. The post-processed satellite remote sensing observations from the INSAT-3D have been used in combination with Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) 1-day forecasts to perform the Indian Solar Irradiance Operational System (INSIOS) simulations. NITK experiences cloudy conditions for a major part of the year that attenuates the solar irradiance available for PV energy production and the aerosols cause performance issues in the PV installations and maintenance. The proposed methodology employs cloud optical thickness (COT) and aerosol optical depth (AOD) to perform the INSIOS simulations and quantify the impact of clouds and aerosols on solar energy potential, quarter-hourly monitoring, forecasting energy production and financial analysis. The irradiance forecast accuracy was evaluated for 15 min, monthly, and seasonal time horizons, and the correlation was found to be 0.82 with most of the percentage difference within 25% for clear-sky conditions. For cloudy conditions, 27% of cases were found to be within ±50% difference of the percentage difference between the INSIOS and silicon irradiance sensor (SIS) irradiance and it was 60% for clear-sky conditions. The proposed methodology is operationally ready and is able to support the rooftop PV energy production management by providing solar irradiance simulations and realistic energy production estimations. Polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (PolSAR) remote sensing has been widely used for forest mapping and monitoring. PolSAR data has the capability to provide scattering information that is contributed by different scatterers within a single SAR resolution cell. A methodology for a PolSAR-based extended water cloud model (EWCM) has been proposed and evaluated in this study. Fully polarimetric phased array type L-band synthetic aperture radar (PALSAR) data of advanced land observing satellite (ALOS) was used in this study for forest aboveground biomass (AGB) retrieval of Dudhwa National Park, India. The shift in the polarization orientation angle (POA) is a major problem that affects the PolSAR-based scattering information. The two sources of POA shift are Faraday rotation angle (FRA) and structural properties of the scatterer. Analysis was carried out to explore the effect of FRA in the SAR data. Deorientation of PolSAR data was implemented to minimize any ambiguity in the scattering retrieval of model-based decomposition. After POA compensation of the coherency matrix, a decrease in the power of volume scattering elements was observed for the forest patches. This study proposed a framework to extend the water cloud model for AGB retrieval. The proposed PolSAR-based EWCM showed less dependency on field data for model parameters retrieval. The PolSAR-based scattering was used as input model parameters to derive AGB for the forest area. Regression between PolSAR-decomposition-based volume scattering and AGB was performed. Without deorientation of the PolSAR coherency matrix, EWCM showed a modeled AGB of 92.90 t ha−1, and a 0.36 R2 was recorded through linear regression between the field-measured AGB and the modeled output. After deorientation of the PolSAR data, an increased R2 (0.78) with lower RMSE (59.77 t ha−1) was obtained from EWCM. The study proves the potential of a PolSAR-based semiempirical model for forest AGB retrieval. India, with 1.32 billion people is the second most populous country in the world with considerably high levels of population density. Previous research shows global temperatures continue to increase causing in increased heat stress and Heat waves affecting the communities and causing extensive damage to crops and agro-rural economy. In this context, SWAT data of the NCEP over the 36-year from 1979 to 2014 are used to access the long term variability of heat stress and heat wave. Over this period, more than 150 days a year, the Eastern coastal region of India have significantly higher no of peak heat stress days (> 120 degrees Fahrenheit) as compared to 100 days in another part of the country leaving the hill states of India where Heat Stress are below 20 days. This may be due to westerly wind from Bay of Bengal drawing heat and moisture to the landmass. The heat stress has increased most in the north-eastern region, more the 4 degrees Fahrenheit, as compared to rest of the country from 1979 to 2014 which can be a result of increased humidity and solar insolation. The country has witnessed an average of 4 to 6 heat wave days a year over the region but few states such as Bihar, Jharkhand, Punjab and Haryana have witnessed more than 8 days a year where relative humidity has gone up due to increased precipitation causing increased heated days. The analysis shows that a high percentage of land mass are venerable to the increased heat stress, although more detailed studies considering the spatial and temporal distribution of the population are needed to be done for the future scenarios. The genus Colura (Dumort.) Dumort. is morpho-taxonomically investigated in India and eight species have been recognized mainly distributed in three different bryo-geographical regions of the country. Colura corynophora (Nees, Lindenb. & Gottsche) Trevis. is reported here for the first time from India, C. leratii (Steph.) Background: Tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) are considered as a pro inflammatory and interleukin-10 (IL-10) anti inflammatory have been shown to predict the risk of incident of coronary artery disease (CAD). The polymorphism at promoter of TNF-α and IL-10 has been shown to increase transcriptional activity of the gene and play a important role in patho physiology of CAD. Aim of present study is to examine the impact of the TNF-α and IL-10 variant allele on various markers of the CAD and to study its relation with circulating TNF-α and IL-10 levels., Methods: The -308 G/A & -238 G/A of TNF-α and -1082 G/A & -819 C/T of IL-10 gene polymorphism has been studied in 301 diagnosed CAD subjects (Age 51.50 ± 9.28; BMI 25.30 ± 3.58) and 305 healthy controls (Age 51.57 ± 9.50; BMI 24.06 ± 7.26). These polymorphism of TNF-α and IL-10 were detected by real time PCR by using Taqman SNP genotyping assay. Furthermore serum TNF-alpha and IL-10 levels were also measured by ELISA., Results: Allelic and genotypic frequencies did not deviate from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium in the controls (p > 0.05). On allele contrast, significant association with susceptibility to CAD was detected with polymorphisms in TNF-α -308 G/A, that variant genotype GA + AA (dominant model) (p = 0.030: OR = 1.61: 95% CI = 1.06-2.44) and variant allele (A) (p = 0.006: OR = 1.71: 95% CI = 1.17-2.51) of TNF-α 308 G/A gene was significant highly observed in the cases as compared to control group. Furthermore, variant genotype CT + TT (dominant model) (p = 0.004: OR = 1.62: 95% CI = 1.17-2.24) and variant allele (T) (p < 0.001: OR = 1.49: 95% CI = 1.17-1.89) of IL-10 -819 C/T gene was significant highly observed in the cases as compared to control group., Conclusion: Our results suggest that the TNF-α G-308A polymorphism independently associated with DBP, cholesterol, triglyceride, LDL, TNF-α and IL-10 levels which may be leads to the development of coronary artery disease of North Indians., (Copyright © 2018. Background: Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a cytokine which plays an important role in the division, proliferation and migration of endothelial cells. In the kidney, VEGF expression is found in glomerular podocytes and in tubular epithelial cells, which may result in acute inflammatory reactions., Methods: The role of VEGF gene polymorphisms (-2578 C/A, -2549 18 bp Ins/Del, -1154 G/A and +936 C/T) was investigated in 272 patients who underwent renal transplantation. ARMS-PCR and PCR-RFLP were used. Patients were categorized into acute allograft rejection (n = 76) and nonrejection (n = 196)., Results: The VEGF -1154 GG genotype and the +936 T allele were found to be susceptible to acute rejection (AR). T-A-A-I, T-A-A-D, T-G-C-I and C-A-A-I haplotypes revealed a predisposition among AR cases. In silico analysis revealed +936 T as a significant allele involved in the transcription regulation., Conclusion: These results highlight the role of VEGF polymorphisms in acute allograft rejection., (© 2015 S. In waste-to-energy plants, there is every likelihood of variations in the quantity and characteristics of the feed. Although intermediate storage tanks are used, but many times these are of inadequate capacity to dampen the variations. In such situations an anaerobic digester treating waste slurry operates under dynamic conditions. In this work a special type of dynamic Artificial Neural Network model, called Nonlinear Autoregressive Exogenous model, is used to model the dynamics of anaerobic digesters by using about one year data collected on the operating digesters. The developed model consists of two hidden layers each having 10 neurons, and uses 18days delay. There are five neurons in input layer and one neuron in output layer for a day.
