1. Classification of Urea Content in Fish Using Absorbance Near-Infrared Spectroscopy and Machine Learning

Abstract

Near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy has become a popular technique for assessing food quality due to its advantages over complex chemical analysis methods. However, the application of NIR spectroscopy for evaluating fish quality based on urea content has not been extensively explored. This study investigates the use of NIR spectroscopy in combination with machine learning (ML) techniques to classify fish samples into two safety classes—Safe and Unsafe—based on their urea content. A comprehensive NIR dataset comprising 11,960 spectra collected from eight distinct positions within the fish body was obtained from 299 fish samples of mackerel, tuna, and pompano species. ML experiments were conducted to classify fish samples based on whether their urea content exceeded the permissible limit of 1000 ppm. To address class imbalance and optimize ML models, various data pre-processing and feature extraction techniques, as well as ML algorithms, were explored. The results demonstrated that utilizing NIR data specifically obtained from the outer skin of the stomach yielded superior models for fish safety classification. A feature extraction method employing pre-processed NIR spectra and their first derivatives, combined with an optimized convolutional neural network architecture, outperformed traditional ML classifiers, achieving an accuracy of up to 83.9%.

A feature extraction method employing pre-processed NIR spectra and their second derivatives, combined with an optimized convolutional neural network architecture, outperformed traditional ML classifiers with an accuracy of approximately 93%.

Abstract

Regulations in the Building Industry are becoming increasingly complex and involve more than one technical area, covering products, components and project implementations. They also play an important role in ensuring the quality of a building, and to minimize its environmental impact. Control or conformance checking are becoming more complex every day, not only for industrials, but also for organizations charged with assessing the conformity of new products or processes. This paper will detail the approach taken by the CSTB (Centre Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment) in order to simplify this conformance control task. The approach and the proposed solutions are based on semantic web technologies. For this purpose, we first establish a domain-ontology, which defines the main concepts involved and the relationships, including one based on OWL (Web Ontology Language) [1]. We rely on SBVR (Semantics of Business Vocabulary and Business Rules) [2] and SPARQL (SPARQL Protocol and RDF Query Language) [3] to reformulate the regulatory requirements written in natural language, respectively, in a controlled and formal language. We then structure our control process based on expert practices. Each elementary control step is defined as a SPARQL query and assembled into complex control processes “on demand”, according to the component tested and its semantic definition. Finally, we represent in RDF (Resource Description Framework) [4] the association between the SBVR rules and SPARQL queries representing the same regulatory constraints.

Abstract

Fruit classification is required in many smart-farming and industrial applications. In the supermarket, a fruit classification system may be used to help cashiers and customer to identify the fruit species, origin, ripeness, and prices. Some methods, such as image processing and NIRS (near-infrared spectroscopy) are already used to classify fruit. In this paper, we propose a fast and cost-effective method based on a low-cost Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) device augmented by K-nearest neighbor (KNN) and Neural Network model. S-parameters features are selected, which take into account the information on signal amplitude or phase in the frequency domain, including reflection coefficient S11 and transmission coefficient S21. This approach was experimentally tested for two separate datasets of five types of fruits, including Apple, Avocado, Dragon Fruit, Guava, and Mango, for fruit recognition as well as their level of ripeness. The classification accuracy of the Neural Network model was higher than KNN with 98.75% and 99.75% on the first dataset, whereas the KNN was seen to be more effective in classifying ripeness with 98.4% as compared to 96.6% for neural network.

Abstract

Let R be a commutative Noetherian ring. For a finitely generated R -module M , Northcott introduced the reducibility index of M , which is the number of submodules appearing in an irredundant irreducible decomposition of the submodule 0 in M. On the other hand, for an Artinian R -module A , Macdonald proved that the number of sum-irreducible submodules appearing in an irredundant sum-irreducible representation of A does not depend on the choice of the representation. This number is called the sum-reducibility index of A. In the former part of this paper, we compute the reducibility index of S ⊗ R M , where R → S is a flat homomorphism of Noetherian rings. Especially, the localization, the polynomial extension, and the completion of R are studied. For the latter part of this paper, we clarify the relation among the reducibility index of M , that of the completion of M , and the sum-reducibility index of the Matlis dual of M. Abstract

Today, with requirements about improving the adaptation ability and reducing the complexity on building application of Auto-adapted system, it will be very important to use contextual concerns such as BPMN, CTT, Scenario, etc. as a tool to model all the relevant concerns of context. In this paper, we provide a new architecture that using Context-aware management to manage Auto-adapted system and using the Context intermediate model to redefine useful data exported from the BPMN tool at design time. Our aim is providing a solution to use specific views in design time to make simpler expert's task. Moreover, it also opens an ability to use many independent views on AAS as the way to separate concerns and improve responsiveness ability in a dynamic context-aware system.

Abstract

The complexity of the Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) and their interactions with the physical environment makes them difficult to model completely. Once deployed, these systems are therefore subject to unexpected events that may degrade their behavior. Consequently, it becomes necessary to evaluate, at runtime, the degree of effectiveness of these systems. To address this concern, a new approach is proposed, drawing its foundations from the possibility theory and accounting for temporal constraints. The degree of effectiveness is then given as the degree of possibility. A step further, the Choquet integral operator is used for aggregating multiple evaluations, providing us with a measure of the users’ satisfaction w.r.t. their preferences. Finally the proposed approach is validated through a use-case in the smart-home domain.

Abstract

International audience; Agent-based recommender systems have been exploited in the last years to provide informative suggestions to users, showing the advantage of exploiting components like beliefs, goals and trust in the recommenda-tions' computation. However, many real-world scenarios, like the traffic one, require the additional feature of representing and reasoning about spatial and temporal knowledge, considering also their vague connotation. This paper tackles this challenge and introduces CARS, a spatio-temporal agent-based recommender system based on the Belief-Desire-Intention (BDI) architecture. Our approach extends the BDI model with spatial and temporal information to represent and reason about fuzzy beliefs and desires dynamics. An experimental evaluation about spatio-temporal reasoning in the traffic domain is carried out using the NetLogo platform, showing the improvements our recommender system introduces to support agents in achieving their goals.

Abstract

International audience; Event detection on Twitter has become an attractive and challenging research field due to the popularity and the peculiarities of tweets. Detecting which tweets describe a specific event and clustering them is one of the main challenging tasks related to Social Media currently addressed in the NLP community. Existing approaches have mainly focused on detecting spikes in clusters around specific keywords or Named Entities (NE). However, one of the main drawbacks of such approaches is the difficulty in understanding when the same keywords describe different events. In this paper, we propose a novel approach that exploits NE mentions in tweets and their entity context to create a temporal event graph. Then, using simple graph theory techniques and a PageRank-like algorithm, we process the event graphs to detect clusters of tweets describing the same events. Experiments on two gold standard datasets show that our approach achieves state-of-the-art results both in terms of evaluation performances and the quality of the detected events.

Abstract

International audience; Energy consumption is one of the main constraints which are faced by designers of communicating objects. Indeed, we are seeing a real increase in the number of communicating objects ranging from customer applications (video games, health care objects) to industrial applications (M2M, automatic car parking, drones). This paper presents a new high level model of autonomy estimation for wearable communicating objects, and more particularly for emotion detection systems and a design space exploration. The innovation in this methodology is to meet the autonomy constraint of health objects while maintaining a reasonable performance which is defined by the emotion recognition rate. The influence of the architecture (RF protocol, kind and number of sensors, ...) and its configuration of the system autonomy and emotion recognition rate is studied in order to propose the most suitable system. The different results show that we can get a high recognition rate and a sufficient autonomy for users.

Abstract

International audience; High quality business workflow definitions play an important role in the organization. An incorrectly defined workflow may lead to unexpected results. Therefore, each business workflow definition should be carefully analyzed before it is put into use. In this paper, we introduce an ontological approach which is suitable for ensuring the syntactic cor-rectness of business workflows. In details, we first introduce the CPN Ontology that is developed for representing CPNs with OWL DL. Then, we define axioms, which are added to the CPN Ontology to provide automated support for establishing the correctness of business workflows. Finally, by relying on the CORESE semantic engine, SPARQL queries are implemented to detect shortcomings in concrete workflows. To the best of our knowledge, this is a novel approach for representing and verifying business workflows based on ontologies.

Abstract

In this paper, we propose a multi-agent recommender system based on the Belief-Desire-Intention (BDI) model applied to multi-context systems. First, we extend the BDI model with additional contexts to deal with sociality and information uncertainty. Second, we propose an ontological representation of planning and intention contexts in order to reason about plans and intentions. Moreover, we show a simple real-world scenario in healthcare in order to illustrate the overall reasoning process of our model.

Abstract

Regulations in the Building Industry are becoming increasingly complex and involve more than one technical area, covering products, components and project implementations. They also play an important role in ensuring the quality of a building, and to minimize its environmental impact. Control or conformance checking are becoming more complex every day, not only for industrials, but also for organizations charged with assessing the conformity of new products or processes. This paper will detail the approach taken by the CSTB (Centre Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment) in order to simplify this conformance control task. The approach and the proposed solutions are based on semantic web technologies. For this purpose, we first establish a domain-ontology, which defines the main concepts involved and the relationships, including one based on OWL (Web Ontology Language) [1]. We rely on SBVR (Semantics of Business Vocabulary and Business Rules) [2] and SPARQL (SPARQL Protocol and RDF Query Language) [3] to reformulate the regulatory requirements written in natural language, respectively, in a controlled and formal language. We then structure our control process based on expert practices. Each elementary control step is defined as a SPARQL query and assembled into complex control processes “on demand”, according to the component tested and its semantic definition. Finally, we represent in RDF (Resource Description Framework) [4] the association between the SBVR rules and SPARQL queries representing the same regulatory constraints.

Abstract

International audience; This paper introduces a solution for controlling RDF data manipulation operations. We propose a formal approach to manage any modification, query or adaptation of the data to satisfy end-user/application criteria (e.g., RDF filtering). An overview of the RDF data manipulation framework with its main components is first presented. We then introduce the RDF-oriented Composition Definition Language (RDFCDL) including the syntax and its graphical representations defined based on CPNs. The language aims to support both expert and non-expert developers to create/compose RDF manipulation operations. Besides, an ontology for representing processes modelled with the RDFCDL language is developed in order to share and reuse the processes more easily. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first approach providing a means for end-users to create activity nodes over RDF data based upon system-defined functions and allowing manipulating processes to be stored in RDF file format.

Abstract

Emotions play a crucial role in human-computer interaction. They are generally expressed and perceived through multiple modalities such as speech, facial expressions, physiological signals. Indeed, the complexity of emotions makes the acquisition very difficult and makes unimodal systems (i.e., the observation of only one source of emotion) unreliable and often unfeasible in applications of high complexity. Moreover the lack of a standard in human emotions modeling hinders the sharing of affective information between applications. In this paper, the authors present a multimodal approach for the emotion recognition from many sources of information. This paper aims to provide a multi-modal system for emotion recognition and exchange that will facilitate inter-systems exchanges and improve the credibility of emotional interaction between users and computers. The authors elaborate a multimodal emotion recognition method from Physiological Data based on signal processing algorithms. The authors’ method permits to recognize emotion composed of several aspects like simulated and masked emotions. This method uses a new multidimensional model to represent emotional states based on an algebraic representation. The experimental results show that the proposed multimodal emotion recognition method improves the recognition rates in comparison to the unimodal approach. Compared to the state of art multimodal techniques, the proposed method gives a good results with 72% of correct.

Abstract

International audience; Depression is a growing problem in our society. It causes pain and suffering not only to patients but also to those who care about them. This paper presents a multimodal emotion recognition system that is capable of preventing depression. It consists of detecting persistent negative emotions for early detection of depression. Our proposal is based on an algebraic representation of emotional states using multidimensional vectors. This algebraic model provides powerful mathematical tools for the analysis and the processing of emotions and permits the fusion of complementary information such as facial expression, voice, physiological signals, etc. Experiments results show the efficiency of the proposed method in detecting negative emotions by giving high recognition rate.

Abstract

International audience; In this study, we propose a new method of recognizing emotional states from physiological signals. Our proposal uses signal processing techniques to analyze physiological signals. It permits to recognize not only the basic emotions (e.g., anger, sadness, fear) but also any kind of complex emotion, including simultaneous superposed or masked emotions. This method consists of two main steps: the training step and the detection step. In the First step, our algorithm extracts the features of emotion from the data to generate an emotion training data base. Then in the second step, we apply the k-nearest-neighbor classifier to assign the predefined classes to instances in the test set. The final result is defined as an eight components vector representing emotion in multidimensional space. Experiments show the efficiency of the proposed method in detecting basic emotion by giving hight recognition rate.

International audience; This paper gives an overview of a formal semantic-based approach of modeling some regulations in the photovoltaic field to help the delivering of technical assessments at the French scientific center on Building Industry (CSTB). Starting from regulatory texts, we first explicit SBVR rules and then formalize them into ontology-based rules in the SPARQL language. These are exploited in the modeling of the compliance checking process required for the delivering of technical assessments.

Abstract

International audience; Semantic matchmaking is defined as a process of finding possible matches between requests and supplies based on their logical relations. Recently, attempts have been done to formalize this process in Description Logics (DLs). We extend this formalization to Packages-based Description Logics (P-DLs), the extensions of DLs for distributed and modular ontologies, for allowing the description of demands and offers to be represented in different terminologies. To support this task, we develop a distributed tableaux-based method for computing concept abduction, a non-monotonic inference service specifically proposed for this kind of operation.

Abstract

International audience; The majority of today's web-based applications are based on back-end databases to process and store business information. Containing valuable business information, these systems are highly interesting to attackers and special care needs to be taken to prevent them from malicious accesses. In this paper, we propose (RBAC + ), an extension of the NIST RBAC (Role-Based Access Control) standard with the notions of application, application profile and sub-application session to distinguish end users that execute the same application, providing them by only the needed roles and continuously monitoring them throughout a whole session. It is based on business application logic rather than primitive reads and writes to enhance the ability of detecting malicious transactions. Hence, attacks caused by malicious transactions can be detected and canceled timely before they succeed.

International audience; This paper presents an ontological method aimed at the capitalisation and organisation of conformance-related knowledge for semi-automatic checking model of the conformance of construction projects against a set of conformance requirements. We start by developing a method for knowledge representation of explicit knowledge taking part in checking, and capitalisation of tacit knowledge defining checking practices. Then we explain our approach for classification, organisation and retrieval of conformance requirements and propose an approach for scheduling these requirements to optimise the checking process. Finally, we introduce our reasoning model that is based on matching graph representations of construction projects and conformance queries, and interpret the acquired results in terms of conformance checking in construction. To validate our approach, we describe a prototype illustrating its feasibility, and discuss ongoing works and perspectives of our research.

International audience; In recent years, there has been a growing interest in integration of semantics into the Semantic Web environment, whose goal is to access, relate and combine information from multiple sources. With regard to this tendency, our work studies a mechanism to model ORM schemas in the Description Logic language SHOINK (D), the underpinning of a Web ontology language. This mechanism meets the key feature required by ORM schemas (i.e. identification and functional dependency constraints). It can be applied to integrate information not only from systems described in ORM schemas but also from relational databases into the Semantic Web environment.

Abstract

International audience; In this paper, we investigate the problem of decomposing an ontology in Description Logics (DLs) based on graph partitioning algorithms. Also, we focus on syntax features of axioms in a given ontology. Our approach aims at decomposing the ontology into many sub-ontologies that are as distinct as possible. We analyze the algorithms and exploit parameters of partitioning that influence the efficiency of computation and reasoning. These parameters are the number of concepts and roles shared by a pair of sub-ontologies, the size (the number of axioms) of each sub-ontology, and the topology of decomposition. We provide two concrete approaches for automatically decomposing the ontology, one is called partitioning based on minimal separator, and the other is segmenting based on eigenvectors and eigenvalues.

Let (R, 픪) be a Noetherian local ring and M a finitely generated R-module with M = d. Following Cuong and the first author [N. T. Cuong and L. T. Nhan, J. Algebra 267 (2003) 156-177], M is called pseudo Cohen-Macaulay if for a system of parameters of M, where . In this paper, first we improve some known results on pseudo Cohen-Macaulay modules. Then we study the localizations of pseudo Cohen-Macaulay modules in order to introduce the pseudo Cohen-Macaulayness for the non-local case. Abstract

Let (R, 픪) be a Noetherian local ring. Denote by RA the Noetherian dimension of an Artinian R-module A. In this paper, we give some characterizations for the ring R to satisfy RA = (R/RA) for certain Artinian R-modules A. Then the existence of a co-localization compatible with Artinian R-modules is studied and it is shown that if it is compatible with local cohomologies of finitely generated modules, then the base ring is universally catenary and all of its formal fibers are Cohen-Macaulay.
