Abstract

This study introduces a paradigm-shifting approach to optimize mitochondrial targeting. Employing a new fluorescent probe strategy, we unravel a combined influence of both Nernst potential (ψ) and partitioning (P) contributions. Through the synthesis of new benz[e]indolinium-derived probes, our findings redefine the landscape of mitochondrial localization by optimizing the efficacy of mitochondrial probe retention in primary cortical neurons undergoing normoxia and oxygen--glucose deprivation. This methodology not only advances our understanding of subcellular dynamics, but also holds promise for transformative applications in biomedical research and therapeutic development. Abstract

In this work, we report on the deposition of microcrystalline silicon (µc-Si:H) films produced from silane (SiH4), hydrogen (H2), and argon (Ar) mixtures using the plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) technique at 200 °C. Particularly, we studied the effect of RF power on the crystalline fraction (XC) of the deposited films, and we have correlated the XC with their optical, electrical, and structural characteristics. Different types of characterization were performed in the µc-Si:H film series. We used several techniques, such as Raman scattering spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), atomic force microscopy (AFM), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), among others. Our results show that RF power had a strong effect on the XC of the films, and there is an optimal value for producing films with the largest XC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

37. A ‘donut effect’? Assessing housing transactions during COVID-19 across the Spanish rural–urban hierarchy.

Abstract

We assess if a ’donut effect’ has occurred in Spain during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our results show a synchronized 30% drop in housing purchases during the national lockdown in 2020, followed by a significant increase from 2021 across the rural-urban continuum, including core cities, suburbs, towns and rural areas, exceeding pre-pandemic levels. Abstract

Habitus is a disposition towards a risk. In the case of the pandemic, the habitus of transfer and stay suggests contexts that the present work addresses to observe them in a sample of students. A cross-sectional, exploratory, and non-experimental study was carried out. The sample consisted of 100 students with an average age of 20 years old, a monthly income of 1,781.89 USD and an average 150 minutes commute time from residence to school. A structure of five factors that explained the effects of state communication on the use of public transport was found. It is hoped that the model can extend the dimensions of the habitus to other research settings., Un habitus es una disposición al riesgo. En el caso de la pandemia, el habitus de traslado y estancia sugiere contextos que el presente trabajo aborda para observarlos en una muestra de estudiantes. Se realizó un estudio transversal, exploratorio y no experimental. La muestra consistió en 100 estudiantes con una edad promedio de 20 años, un ingreso mensual de 1,781.89 USD y un tiempo promedio de viaje de 150 minutos desde la residencia a la escuela. Se encontró una estructura de cinco factores que explicaban los efectos de la comunicación estatal sobre el uso del transporte público. Se espera que el modelo pueda ampliar las dimensiones del habitus en otros entornos de investigación., Um habitus é uma disposição ao risco. Abstract

Subcellular microenvironment plays a crucial role in maintaining cell homeostasis being hydration an essential parameter to monitor the variations of lipid organization in biological membranes. Fluorescent microenvironment‐sensitive probes are stimuli‐responsive molecules and able to change their fluorescence profile according to the microenvironment properties (polarity, hydration, microviscosity and tension). Here we present an organic fluorescent probe, NPM‐1, as a new microenvironmental dye with selective plasma membrane localization in live cells. Using high‐resolution confocal microscopy and fluorescence spectroscopy, we explored the hydration and polarity variations during the formation of apoptotic bodies in real time. To have a clear understanding of the cell microenvironment variations, an analogue polarity probe able to localize the cytosol and nucleoli was also synthetized, CellPol‐1. Abstract

As of May 2022, the pandemic has limited opportunities for entrepreneurs. The objective of the study was to establish the networks of opportunities, motives, dispositions, ethics, pressures, challenges, reputation, images, identities and behaviors related to entrepreneurship in the face of the health and economic crisis. A documentary, cross-sectional and exploratory study was carried out with a selection of sources indexed to international repositories: Scopus, JCR, WoS, Latindex, Redalyc, Scielo and Frontiers. A search was made for the keywords of opportunism, optimization, innovation and entrepreneurship. The summaries corresponding to the pandemic period from November 2019 to May 2022 were considered. A structure of relationships between nodes and edges was found that suggests a neuronal learning that went from the dimension of pressure in the face of the pandemic to entrepreneurial identity. The centrality parameters that measure the distance between edges and nodes suggest that the dispositions are structured according to this principle of proximity. The grouping coefficients that indicate the structuring of the edges and nodes according to their dimensions suggest that the network is reconfigured from process innovation and resourcs optimization. The structure measure reflects the pressure concentration as the network input and the identity dimension as the network output. The centrality parameters that measure the distance between edges and nodes suggest that the dispositions are structured according to this principle of proximity. The grouping coefficients that indicate the structuring of the edges and nodes according to their dimensions suggest that the network is reconfigured from process innovation and recurss optimization. The structure measure reflects the pressure concentration as the network input and the identity dimension as the network output. In this way, the present study found a central and grouped structure in two dimensions of pressure and identity of entrepreneurship in the face of COVID-19 Delimitation to three dimensions of analysis corresponding to opportunities, optimizations and innovations is recommended. 50. Vertical Osseodistraction with a New Intraosseous Alveolar Distractor Prototype for Dental Implant Rehabilitation: A Pilot Study in Dogs.

Abstract

To evaluate in dogs a newly developed intraosseous alveolar distractor (Mozo-Grau Alveolar Distractor) for vertical bone augmentation to allow placement of dental implants. Materials and Methods: Four dogs had their posterior teeth removed, and sockets were left to heal for 20 weeks. The right and left sides of the posterior mandibles were randomly allocated, according to a split-mouth design, to receive either two distractors, distracting a 32-mm-long bone segment, or two distractors supporting one bony segment 20 mm long and one 8 mm long. Each side of the jaw was treated by a different operator. Eight days after placement, distractors were activated with one complete turn (corresponding to 0.75 mm of vertical distraction) per day for 8 days, followed by a latency period of 10 weeks. Distractors were removed, and seven dental implants of two randomly allocated designs were placed in each dog. Implants were submerged for 2 months, and the dogs were sacrificed. Outcome measures were: success of the augmentation procedure (defined as a vertical gain of at least 5 mm of bone), any complications, implant failure, bone-to-implant contact (BIC), and peri-implant marginal bone level changes. Results: One dog was withdrawn because of a mandible fracture. Eight complications occurred, and six osseodistractors were lost, but no implant failed. Only two segments in one dog achieved a vertical bone gain of at least 5 mm. The mean radiographic vertical bone gain was 2.28 mm, whereas the mean histologic vertical bone gain was 3.16 mm. Histologically, all the implants were osseointegrated. The mean BIC for implants placed in new distracted bone was 34.78% + 11.60% and 35.66% + 8.84% for those placed in native bone. The mean peri-implant marginal bone level loss was 0.56 + 0.54 mm. Conclusion: It is possible to achieve vertical augmentation using intraosseous alveolar distractors to allow successful implantation of dental implants; however, the technique still requires surgical refinements and a dedicated training of the surgeons before being applied to humans.
