- Abstract
Textbooks are one of the important factors affecting the learning styles of individuals. They stand out as basic resources because they are easily accessible and available everywhere for everyone. In addition, textbooks which are at the focal point of educational activities are of great importance for both teachers and students. For this reason, the way in which the subjects are presented should be such that individuals can be actively involved in the lesson. In this study, document analysis was used to analyze the presentation of history in elementary and secondary school social studies textbooks. The 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th grade social studies textbooks taught in primary and secondary schools in the 2023- 2024 academic year by the Ministry of National Education, Board of Education formed the data source of this study. The data obtained were analyzed with descriptive analysis method. Within the scope of the study, the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th grade social studies textbooks were analyzed by considering historical person, historical place (mosque, castle, palace, martyrdom, monument, caravanserai, cave, archaeological site, and etc.), historical event, historical visual (photograph, engraving, representational picture, miniature, cartoon, and etc.) and history (chronology), thus it was aimed to reveal the general structure of social studies textbooks in terms of historical science.
