Background Surgery remains the mainstay of colorectal cancer (CRC) and substantially reduces cancer-related morbidity and mortality. Frailty is defined as a biological syndrome, reflecting a state of impaired homeostatic reserve and predisposing to rehospitalisations and deaths in older individuals. Preoperative assessment for frailty is critically important in risk stratification and clinical decision-making. In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we aimed to quantitatively summarise the effect of frailty on postoperative outcomes in geriatric patients receiving surgery for CRC. Methods A systematic literature search was conducted in MEDLINE, Cochrane and EMBASE from inception to 30 April 2020. Fully published articles reporting risk estimate(s) of frailty on postoperative complication(s), readmission and/or mortality in patients aged ≥65 years who received surgery for CRC were eligible for qualitative and quantitative analyses. Results Across 10 articles of 9 unique studies (n = 69332) that were eventually included in the systematic review and meta-analysis, overall prevalence of frailty was 23.0% (95% CI: 11–43%, I2 = 100%). Odds ratios (ORs) on overall and severe postoperative complications were respectively increased by 2.36- (95% CI: 1.66–3.35, P Conclusions In the studies reviewed, frailty appeared to be associated with increased risks for postoperative complications, readmission and mortality during 12 months in patients aged ≥65 years who received surgery for CRC. Nevertheless, no significant association between frailty and 30-day/inpatient mortality was observed.

Methods In this cross-sectional study, individuals with suspected CAD in the absence of cancer-related symptoms underwent coronary angiography for the first time, and were divided into CAD and non-CAD groups. Colonoscopy was performed in individuals at high-risk tier based on their Asia–Pacific colorectal screening (APCS) score. Their waist circumference (WC), height and body weight were measured. Results There were 634 of 1157 individuals at a high risk of developing advanced colorectal neoplasms, 91.0% (577/634) of whom were male smokers. Trapping and positioning of single cells has played a major role in various fields of bioengineering, such as cell screening, analysis, induction and pathologic diagnosis, etc. In this work, we report a new non-contact microfluidic-based method for single cells trapping and positioning. A pair of microtubes of same specification is symmetrically placed on opposite sides of the cell. When fluid flowing through microtubes squirts in the same velocity toward the cell, the cell will be immobilized and clamped due to symmetrical fluid pressure generated around it. Feasibility of the reported method is validated by experiments. This method is also capable of trapping and positioning micro particles.

The introduction of blue light curing to dyeing and finishing will be save energy and reduce emission. Searching out blue light cured polymers of high strength and good flexibility is immediately needed. Hyperbranched polyurethane acrylate (HBPUA) exhibits relatively low viscosity and good mechanical property. Typical acrylate monomers of low smell were copolymerized with HBPUA, subsequently, the tensile mechanical property and flexibility of blue light cured polymers were evaluated in contrast of commercial adhesives. The concentration of monomer was further optimized and the dynamic mechanical property of selected film was presented. The results show that 80/20 HBPUA/TPGDA copolymer is thought of the most suitable system for textiles in this study. The related character of 80/20 HBPUA/TPGDA blue light cured system is listed below: 52.3% reaction conversion, 7.2MPa tensile stress, 9.2% fracture elongation, 61.8°C glass transition temperature.

In this article, the detergency mechanisms at the single fiber level were examined from the microscopic perspective. Unlike the previous research, we improved the traditional method to investigate washing mechanism. The washing situation of cotton fiber soiled by olive oil was observed by Inverted Fluorescence Microscope, and the effects of the surfactant LAS (0.5 g/L) and Lipase (0.5 g/L) were discussed. The results indicated that the oil was rolled up from the fiber after washing with surfactant LAS, and the oil was broken down into soluble substances in water by hydrolysis after lipase washing.

Response surface methodology (RSM) was employed to optimize the washing conditions. A four-factorial three-level Box-Behnken partial orthogonal design was chosen to explain the washing process based on four critical factors, detergent concentration, lipase concentration, washing temperature and buffer pH. According to the responses from the experimental model, the effects of each variable were assessed and the interactions between variables were also determined. The experiment suggested that the optimal conditions for removal of olive oil from the cotton fabrics were 0.60g/L detergent, 4.37g/L lipase, washing temperature of 25.06 and buffer pH of 7.29. By actual washing confirmation, the wetting time of the washed fabric under the optimal condition was 0.51s. Home laundry could be conducted at low temperature with addition of lipase.

After 83 individuals with a family history of CRC were excluded, only the prevalence of adenomas was still significantly higher in the CAD group than in the non-CAD group (25.5% vs 16.0%, P0.01). Body mass index (BMI) ≥ 25 kg/m(2) was correlated with the occurrence of adenomas (OR 2.133, 95% CI 1.219-3.730, P = 0.008) in CAD patients.Even in the absence of family history of CRC, CAD patients at a high risk of developing advanced colorectal neoplasms classified by the APCS score still showed a remarkably high prevalence of colorectal adenomas. Moreover, the association between the occurrence of adenomas and CAD was stronger in overweight (BMI ≥ 25 kg/m(2)) individuals.

Background Fatty liver index (FLI) was recently established to predict non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in general population, which is known to be associated with coronary artery atherosclerotic disease (CAD). This study aims to investigate whether FLI correlates with NAFLD and with newly diagnosed CAD in a special Chinese population who underwent coronary angiography. Methods Patients with CAD (n = 231) and without CAD (n = 482) as confirmed by coronary angiography were included. Among them, 574 patients underwent B-ultrosonography were divided into NAFLD group (n = 209) and non-NAFLD group (n = 365). Correlation between FLI and NAFLD was analyzed using pearson’s correlation. The associations between FLI and NAFLD as well as CAD were assessed using logistic regression. The predictive accuracy of FLI for NAFLD was evaluated using receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve analysis. Results FLI was significantly higher in NAFLD group (37.10 ± 1.95) than in non-NAFLD group (17.70 ± 1.04), P 0.05). Conclusions FLI showed good correlation with NAFLD in patients who underwent coronary angiography, but not with newly diagnosed CAD. This might be underestimated because some patients in non-CAD group may have other underlying cardiovascular diseases.

Background and Aims The association between gallstone disease and coronary artery atherosclerotic disease (CAD) remains unclear. To clarify their relationship, patients with CAD newly diagnosed by coronary angiography were investigated in this cross-sectional study. Methods The study cohort consisted of 1,270 patients undergoing coronary angiography for the first time between January 2007 and September 2011. Patients with ≥50% diameter stenosis in any major coronary artery on coronary angiography were defined as being CAD positive (n = 766) and those with no stenosis as CAD negative (n = 504). Multivariate logistic regression was used to investigate the relationship between gallstone disease and CAD. The odds ratios (OR) of factors associated with CAD were calculated. In addition, CAD-positive and CAD-negative patients were matched one-to-one by age, gender and metabolic syndrome (MetS), and the association between gallbladder disease and CAD was determined.
