In-memory computing architecture is an emerging revolutionary computing paradigm that can break the von Neumann bottleneck. Computing methodology and circuit codesign using the CMOS compatible 1T1R resistive random access memory (RRAM) integration structure is presented in this paper. Functionally complete Boolean logic and arithmetic functions are experimentally demonstrated. With a single 40-nm CMOS process 1T1R unit, each of the 16 binary logics can be realized in two logic steps with an additional readout step for cascading, which shows functional reconfiguration and low computational complexity. Up to 107 cycles of NAND and XOR logic operations are performed to validate the correctness and reliability. Moreover, several fundamental adder circuits are designed and experimentally demonstrated in 1T1R devices as the proof of concept of the 1T1R computing architecture. The adders proposed in this paper include a ripple-carry adder and its optimized design and a carry-select adder, which all show promising advantages in nonvolatility, computation speed, and circuit area. The introduction of metal nanocrystals (NCs) has been confirmed to improve electrical uniformity of oxide-based resistive random access memory (RRAM) devices significantly; however, the current reports do not systematically elucidate the relationship between the size/distribution of NCs and the electrical uniformity of RRAM devices. In this paper, we focused on the impact of metal NCs size and areal density on the resistive switching (RS) performances of oxide RRAM by atomic layer deposition (ALD) based on the experimental results and theoretical calculation. The dependence of ALD cycles of 50–130 during Pt or CoPtx NCs growth on the RS parameters of Al2O3 or HfO2 memory units has been evaluated systematically. The RRAM embedded Pt or CoPtx NCs shows the trends: with increasing ALD cycles, the forming voltage, set/reset voltage, the resistance in off and on state, and ${R}_{ \mathrm{\scriptscriptstyle OFF}}/{R}_{ \mathrm{\scriptscriptstyle ON}}$ ratio entirely first decrease, then flatten, and increase later with a minimum value at about 100 cycles. Although all metal NCs with various sizes enhance the electric field strength compared to at the planar region, only metal NCs with proper NCs size and areal density (9 nm/6– $10\times 10^{\textsf {11}}$ /cm2 in this paper) can effectively produce stronger localized electric field at the tip of metal NCs, leading to optimal RS behavior. When developing silicon carbide (SiC) devices, the reliability of the internal body diode is an important issue. Stacking faults (SFs) are expanded from basal plane defects by using a body diode. Although it is well known that ON-voltage degradation occurs due to SFs, their effects on dynamic reliability have not been studied well. Furthermore, including the effects of SFs, there are not many reports about the dynamic reliability of SiC-MOSFETs. In this paper, a double-pulse switching test using 3.3-kV SiC-MOSFETs was carried out to clarify the failure mechanism of the switching operation of SiC-MOSFETs and effects of SFs on the safe operation area (SOA). Before the switching test, current stress was applied to the body diode of the devices under test (DUTs) to expand the SFs. The circuit configuration was half-bridge type, and a double-pulse gate signal was applied to the lower arm DUT. The switching voltage was 1.8 kV, and the switching current increased at about 8-A steps to failure. As a result, reverse recovery SOA (RRSOA) reliability decreased depending on the amount of SFs in the SiC-MOSFET. Because RRSOA failure was caused by avalanche due to the hole concentration during reverse recovery and the SFs raised local current density, reverse bias SOA (RBSOA) hardly decreased even if SFs containing SiC-MOSFETs were used. This is because RBSOA failure was caused by degradation of the gate isolation layer due to overheating and the temperature coefficient of the SFs electric resistance indicated negative. This paper presents a comparison of switching performances between the in-situ oxide, gallium nitride (GaN) interlayer FET (OG-FET) and the conventional GaN metal–oxide–semiconductor FET (MOSFET), and explores the influence of the channel electron mobility on the device switching performance. GaN OG-FET is a novel structure with a pristine GaN layer grown between the gate oxide and the p-GaN enhancing the channel mobility up to 185 cm2/ $\text {V}\cdot \text {s}$ , which is over $3{\times}$ larger than that of the typical reported value (50 cm2/ $\text {V}\cdot \text {s}$) in GaN MOSFET. Owing to the high channel electron mobility, the GaN OG-FET showed a switching loss 30% lower than that of the conventional GaN trench MOSFET. Our results indicate that GaN OG-FET has the potential to attain greater efficiency, particularly at higher frequencies, showing a possible patch toward megahertz range conversions. This paper deals with the issue of adaptive observer-based stabilization for a more general class of uncertain switched stochastic nonlower triangular nonlinear systems with average dwell-time (ADT) switching. The completely unknown nonlinear functions possessing the entire states are handled using the neural networks universal approximation property and the variable separation technique. The main novelty of this paper is that it presents a universal formula for constructing an adaptive output-feedback controller of the considered system with only one adaptive parameter by designing a switched state observer. The theoretical analysis shows that the Lyapunov stability of the overall closed-loop system is ensured in the presence of ADT switching. This paper investigates the performance of switch-mode power supplies used in desktop PCs (PC-SMPS’) across the entire range of operating powers. Experimental results show that at low to medium operating powers, the input ac current might lose its periodicity with supply voltage frequency, when PCS-MPS’ can be an unexpected source of interharmonics and dc component. In such cases, there is a significant increase of PC-SMPS’ current waveform distortion and a substantial decrease of efficiency and operational power factors, which requires application of appropriate measurement and calculation procedures during the analysis. To correctly assess these power-dependent changes in performance and power quality indicators, this paper introduces a novel testing and evaluation methodology, based on the known or assumed PC-SMPS operating cycle. This paper discusses dynamic behavior of a dual-active-bridge (DAB) dc–dc converter. Conventional phase-shift control methods for the DAB converter may cause dc offsets in both inductor current and transformer magnetizing current in transient states. The dc offset in the inductor current would introduce an excessive peak current through the switching devices. The dc offset in the magnetizing current may induce magnetic-flux saturation. Conventional methods simultaneously turn on and off the diagonal switches in each H-bridge converter and produce a square-wave voltage with a 50% duty ratio. In contrast, the proposed method in this paper independently controls each switch to modify the duty ratio in transient states. This paper clearly derives the requirements of each switch to eliminate the dc offsets in both currents with a settling time shorter than half the switching period. Experimental results using a 5-kW 20-kHz system verify the validity of the proposed control method, which is effective not only in a single step change, but also in a continuous change in the phase-shift reference. This paper presents two novel measurement methods to characterize silicon carbide (SiC) MOSFET devices. The resulting data are utilized to significantly improve the extraction of a custom device model that can now accurately reproduce device switching behavior. First, we consider the $I_{\text{d}}- V_{\text{ds}}$ output characteristics of power devices such as SiC transistors. These are typically measured using traditional curve tracers, but the characterization of the high-voltage and high-current (HVHC) region is very challenging because of device power compliance and self-heating. In this paper, we introduce a measurement technique that overcomes self-heating and derives the HVHC region from switching waveforms. The switching transient characteristics of devices are used to determine drain current $(I_{\text{d}})$ as a function of drain–source voltage $(V_{\text{ds}})$ in the HVHC range. Second, we consider another challenging characterization area: measurement of nonlinear capacitances when device is turned on. These capacitance characteristics of on-state devices are important for correcting disagreements between simulations and measurements in turn-off switching transient waveforms and cannot be measured using a conventional capacitance-voltage meter. We introduce S-parameter measurements as an effective method to obtain the capacitance characteristics of both off-state devices and on-state devices. These novel measurement techniques have been applied to the modeling of a SiC device. The extracted device model, a modified version of the popular Angelov−GaN high-electron-mobility transistor model, shows significant improvement in terms of the accuracy of switching waveforms of devices over a wide range of operating conditions. The pump-back test is widely adopted in the industry for characterizing and qualifying high-power converters. One popular pump-back test configuration is to tie the dc links of two converters together and circulate the current through the inductor connected between the ac terminals. In this configuration, one of the converters operates in the voltage mode to generate the virtual grid and the other converter regulates the circulating current, where hysteresis control could be applied. However, the switching characteristics of hysteresis control are unique due to the pulsewidth modulation type voltage being the virtual grid. This paper contributes to analyzing the switching frequency characteristics of the hysteresis control in this pump-back test configuration. The switching frequency tracking phenomenon is revealed and reported in this paper for the first time. The switching properties of Te and TeTiW top electrodes (TEs) on TiW/SiN/TiN resistive switching memory devices are explored in this paper. The TeTiW TE device exhibits more favorable bipolar resistive switching behavior because of the decrease in binding energy after its use. This finding is confirmed through X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analyses. The filament of the TeTiW TE device is metal like after forming, and the reset process corresponds with the thermal-dissolution mechanism. A physical model based on a Te filament is constructed to explain such phenomena. The TeTiW TE device provides the excellent endurance of more than 104 cycles, with an ON/OFF ratio of 500. The improvement can be attributed to the filament’s robustness during the forming and set processes, which prevent its diffusion even at high temperature. The device also features long retention for up to 104 s at 225 °C without stress, and 104 s at 85 °C with stress of −0.3 V. In this paper, we demonstrate the linear conductance-change characteristics of a conductive-bridging RAM (CBRAM) to be employed as an artificial synapse device in neuromorphic systems. The CBRAM with a bilayer electrolyte structure (${\mathrm {Cu/Cu}}_{{2}-{x}}\text{S}$ / $\mathrm {WO}_{{3}-{x}}$ /W) exhibits analog switching behavior during the depression process due to the well-controlled dissolution of the conductive filament. To analyze the origin of this motion, we investigate the effective voltage applied to $\mathrm {Cu}_{{2}-{x}}\text{S}$ and $\mathrm {WO}_{{3}-{x}}$. Our findings reveal that $\mathrm {Cu}_{{2}-{x}}\text{S}$ , acting as a voltage divider, helps in suppressing the large voltage drop in $\mathrm {WO}_{{3}-{x}}$ , where the formation/dissolution of filament occurs. Furthermore, due to the diode-like characteristics of $\mathrm {Cu}_{{2}-{x}}\text{S}$ and the division of voltage drop between $\mathrm {WO}_{{3}-{x}}$ and $\mathrm {Cu}_{{2}-{x}}\text{S}$ , an optimum programming energy is applied to $\mathrm {WO}_{{3}-{x}}$ during the depression process. This leads to linear conductance-change characteristics under identical pulses. However, abrupt conductance-change characteristics are observed during the potentiation process. Thus, we use only the device characteristics of the depression part for the neuromorphic system. This paper presents the work carried out by the IEEE Working Grou[ on field-measured overvoltages and their analysis for validating power system component models to be used in switching transients studies. The work uses measurement data obtained from field tests performed by Bonneville Power Administration in June 1995 where switching overvoltages were measured on one of its 230 kV lines. This paper includes a description of the switching tests and the main results derived from field measurements. In this paper, the conventional I- and T-type three-level neutral-point-clamped (3L-NPC) inverter for low-voltage renewable energy systems is first investigated. Literature research shows that the T-type inverter improves I-type's insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) $+$ IGBT current paths. However, the IGBT $+$ diode paths are the same. The calculation in this paper further reveals that the IGBT $+$ diode current paths dominate the conduction losses and even the whole semiconductor losses. Based on the aforementioned recognitions, a novel T-type inverter is presented as an alternative to be applied in the low-voltage renewable energy systems. In the proposed 3L-NPC, four CoolMosfets replace the IGBT $+$ diode middle bidirectional switch. In the proposed topology, there is no diode involved in the current path supposing the unity power factor. In the rapidly growing field of electrified transportation technology, hybrid electric and electric vehicle (HEV/EV) manufacturers have been placing increasing demands on the designers to improve the efficiency and reduce the costs of vehicle components to sustain a niche in the EV market. To understand the significance and challenges in an efficient and economical drivetrain design, this paper presents a part of an ongoing project that aims at developing a comprehensive study on dc/ac drive motor technology in EV applications. In this paper, a new three-level three-phase matrix converter topology, along with two conventional frequently used three-level three-phase dc/ac converter topologies, namely, diode-clamped and H-bridge converters, are implemented. Furthermore, comprehensive analysis and comparative studies are conducted to examine the performance and efficiency of these converter topologies according to EV design criteria. Studies have been taken into the breakdown voltage jitter of corona-stabilized switch at high repetition rate up to several kHz. It is thought that the gas recovery affect the jitter of breakdown voltage directly at high repetition rate, because the gas switch will breakdown at a low voltage if the gas cannot fully recover. The breakdown voltage jitter is called voltage jitter in the following paper. However, based on the experimental results, the voltage jitter still exists at low repetition rate, even at single-shot mode. This is not explained by the previous studies. In this paper, voltage jitter below 100 Hz of a corona-stabilized switch is investigated experimentally. A corona-stabilized switch is introduced, using a cylindrical electrode as the cathode and a plane electrode as the anode. The gas used between the electrodes is SF6. A negative pulse with a maximum width of 30~\mu \texts is used to charge this switch. The tested factors include gas pressure, gap space, repetition rate, and switch geometry. Experimental results show that voltage jitter is mainly affected by the gas pressure and switch geometry. It is seen that voltage jitter decreases as gas pressure increases and a suitable cathode geometry presents a low voltage jitter. Critical volume is a region close to the highly stressed electrode, where the presence of an electron will lead to an electron avalanche which attains a critical size and hence leads to a stabilizing corona. Critical volume is introduced to explain the experimental results. It is found that less voltage jitter can be achieved with a smaller and more concentrated critical volume, as well as efficient corona stabilization. This paper proposes a novel open-winding brushless doubly-fed reluctance generator (OW-BDFRG) with dual two-level converters in order to reduce the converter rating and switching frequency for large-scale wind turbine applications. The new converter topology is equivalent to a three-level converter directly connected to the control winding of typical BDFRG. The OW-BDFRG system with this topology structure requires lower converter rating and switching frequency, and has a more flexible control mode, better operation performance, and fault redundancy capability. For the OW-BDFRG, this paper also proposes a new control scheme combining direct power control (DPC) with sliding mode variable structure (SMVS) control to implement the power tracking. The voltage-vector switching table of DPC is redesigned according to the error signals of active and reactive powers of the power winding, as well as the sector location of control winding flux. The active and reactive powers of the OW-BDFRG can be directly decoupled and independently controlled by properly selecting the switching voltage vectors. The novelty of this paper lies in an OW-BDFRG topology driven by dual two-level converters to improve the system characteristics, and the use of SMVS control to improve the DPC accuracy and robustness to parameter variations. A self-biased CMOS analog mixer for ultra-wideband (UWB) applications is presented in this paper. The proposed mixer is complementary and self-biased, and has lower power consumption, superior isolation, and larger bandwidth. The proposed low-power, down conversion mixer is designed and fabricated in UMC 0.18\mu \textm CMOS technology. The measurement results show that it can operate at UWB frequencies that range from 1 to 6 GHz. The proposed mixer provides a maximum conversion gain of 13 dB, −4.5 dBm of third-order input intercept point, and a minimum double sideband noise figure of 12 dB. This paper proposes an input voltage sensorless control algorithm for three-phase active boost rectifiers. Using this approach, the input ac-phase voltages can be accurately estimated from the fluctuations of other measured state variables and preceding switching state information from converter dynamics. Furthermore, the proposed control strategy reduces the input current harmonics of an ac–dc three-phase boost power factor correction (PFC) converter by injecting an additional common-mode duty ratio term to the feedback controllers’ outputs. This additional duty compensation term cancels the unwanted input harmonics, caused by the floating potential between ac source neutral and dc link negative, without requiring any access to the neutral point. A 6-kW (continuous power)/10-kW (peak power) three-phase boost PFC prototype using SiC-based semiconductor switching devices is designed and developed to validate the proposed control algorithm. The experimental results show that an input power factor of 0.999 with a conversion efficiency of 98.3%, total harmonic distortion as low as 4%, and a tightly regulated dc-link voltage with 1% ripple can be achieved. This paper presents analytic and experimental results for high-efficiency GaN HEMT class-F and inverse class-F (class-F−1) synchronous rectifiers. The rectifier designs are based on time-reversed duals of corresponding class-F amplifiers. A detailed analysis of the power efficiency of a class-F rectifier is presented. The analysis shows that, unlike the amplifier dual, the rectifier configuration does not have significant overlap loss because of device constraints in terms of operation in quadrant III. Consequently, the power efficiency of the class-F rectifier is slightly higher than the amplifier circuit under equal source power conditions. Experimental measurements are shown, which compare the rectification efficiency of a class-F rectifier with class-F−1 rectifiers. It is shown that operation of the rectifiers under back-off conditions mimics the power efficiency of an amplifier with envelope tracking. Based on this paper, it is concluded that the class-F−1 mode has better rectification efficiency compared with that of class-F, both at peak power and under back-off conditions. This paper studies the electronically steerable parasitic array radiator (ESPAR) antenna as a solution for beam pattern switching to implement blind interference alignment (BIA). The ESPAR antenna uses a single radio-frequency (RF) chain, and its beamforming is achieved by simply tuning the reactance loads of parasitic elements. Furthermore, ESPAR's beam pattern can be designed to enhance the received signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), thereby improving the performance of BIA. The focus of this work is the design of the ESPAR beam pattern to realize and improve BIA. In the first approach, each receiver ESPAR antenna dynamically selects the proper beam patterns from among the sector beam patterns, which are pre-designed to access different angular sectors with constant optimal antenna efficiency. We also propose a singular value decomposition (SVD) beamforming method, by means of the available channel state information at the receiver and a dynamic matching network for a high antenna efficiency. This paper summarizes simulation based technical feasibility and cost benefit analyses of a range of off-the-shelf electrical losses reduction intervention solutions in the Isle of Wight (IoW) 11 kV distribution network in the United Kingdom (UK), assessed over a period of 45 years. Based on presented results, the paper provides a brief commentary on the merits, drawbacks, risks and recommendations associated with each considered network intervention. Among considered network interventions, the transformer auto stop-start scheme, where one of the transformers among a pair at a primary substation would be switched depending on the substation's varying load, was found to be the optimal solution, i.e., in reducing technical losses significantly and may also have a reasonable Net Present Value (NPV) with a good rate of Return on Investment (RoI) when fully implemented. Bipolar junction transistors (BJTs) have been widely studied and used in nanosecond high-voltage pulse generators due to the advantages of fast switching speed and high repetitive frequency. Usually the Marx-type circuit is used to raise the peak value of output pulses. In this paper, a traditional BJT-Marx circuit using charging resistors is analyzed theoretically and experimentally. Based on the results, the structure of a circuit is changed to decrease the isolation voltage across the resistors, and diodes are used to replace charging resistors to block capacitors discharging to resistors. Experimental results showed that the three Marx generators proposed in this paper output pulses with higher voltage amplitude, and the last improved circuit outputs pulses with faster fall times at a higher efficiency. We present a new technique for the design and test of coaxial switched oscillators (SWOs). In this paper (Part I of a two-part paper), we concentrate on the electrostatic design of coaxial SWOs. We introduce a new design for the electrodes, which have been conceived as conformal surfaces in a geometrically convenient curvilinear space where Laplace equation is solvable. Analytical solution of the electrostatic fields is presented, discussed, and validated using numerical simulation. In this paper, we address the adaptive neural tracking control problem for a class of uncertain switched stochastic nonlinear pure-feedback systems with nonlower triangular form. The significant design difficulty is the completely unknown nonlinear functions with all state variables that can neither be directly estimated by radial basis function (RBF) neural networks (NNs) nor be eliminated by the traditional backstepping technique. To achieve the control objective of this paper, a common state-feedback controller for all subsystems is first systematically constructed by using the common coordinate transformation, the variable separation technique, and the universal approximation capability of RBF NNs. Then the stability analysis shows that the semi-global bounded in probability of the whole closed-loop switched system can be obtained and the desired tracking performance can also be insured under a class of switching signals with the average dwell time property. This paper presents voltage regulation and current tracking control strategies for three phase two-level grid-connected power converters. By using power-invariant Park’s transformation, an averaged mathematical model of power converters is obtained in dq synchronous reference frame. Then a novel control strategy using adaptive control and ${H}_{\infty }$ technique is proposed to regulate the dc-link output voltage as well as track a desired current reference for three-phase power rectifiers. More specifically, an efficient adaptive controller is established in the external loop for regulating dc-link output voltage in the presence of external disturbances. A set of ${H}_{\infty }$ controllers are designed in the internal loop to force the input currents track their desired values. Finally, simulation results obtained from the proposed control method are presented, analyzed, and compared with that of sliding mode control, and the superiority of the proposed control laws is verified. This paper studies the stability analysis of the input saturated discrete-time switched systems with average dwell-time based on the parametric discrete-time Riccati equation. The state feedback controller and the observer-based output feedback controller are designed to guarantee the exponential stability of the closed-loop system. The proposed method is simple and easy to operate in practice. The designed controllers can be computed easily by solving the parametric discrete-time Lyapunov equation. The main advantages of this paper are that the stability analysis is based on the properties of the saturation function and limited structure information of the actuator saturation and that the designed controllers have good robustness to the structure uncertainty of the input saturation. The reliable operation of a power distribution system relies on a good prior knowledge of its topology and its system state. Although crucial, due to the lack of direct monitoring devices on the switch statuses, the topology information is often unavailable or outdated for the distribution system operators for real-time applications. Apart from the limited observability of the power distribution system, other challenges are the nonlinearity of the model, the complicated, unbalanced structure of the distribution system, and the scale of the system. To overcome the above challenges, this paper proposes a Bayesian-inference framework that allows us to simultaneously estimate the topology and the state of a three-phase, unbalanced power distribution system. Specifically, by using the very limited number of measurements available that are associated with the forecast load data, we efficiently recover the full Bayesian posterior distributions of the system topology under both normal and outage operation conditions. This is performed through an adaptive importance sampling procedure that greatly alleviates the computational burden of the traditional Monte-Carlo (MC)-sampling-based approach while maintaining a good estimation accuracy. Volt/VAr Optimization (VVO) is becoming increasingly crucial in distribution management systems with renewable sources that require setting their reactive power in coordination with legacy voltage and reactive power control devices. This paper presents a VVO method that operates in complex variables based on the Wirtinger calculus; it employs a penalty method that keeps voltage magnitudes and controller parameters within limits together with a probabilistic rounding technique for handling switched device variables. The complex variable implementation permits using the compensation technique when solving the Karush-Kuhn Tucker (KKT) system, thus achieving a significant speedup due to limiting the number of linear system factorizations. The proposed method is contrasted with a classical VVO implementation employing discrete coordinate search from the current operating point and an enhanced version that uses sensitivity information. Numerical results on distribution networks having up to 3147 nodes show that the proposed method is significantly faster than classical methods and gives operating points free of voltage magnitude violations and lower power loss. This paper mainly investigates the problem of extended dissipative filter design for switched discrete-time systems where the variation of switching signals among subsystems is governed by the persistent dwell-time strategy. Considering that in practical applications, the congestion of the communication channels between systems and filters may cause data loss, therefore the packet dropouts are taken into account to make the issue under consideration more general. Meanwhile, it is generally known that the mode information of the system may sometimes not be accessed, so we consider the design of a unified filter including mode-dependent and mode-independent filters simultaneously. A white sequence that obeys the Bernoulli distribution is used to express the random switching of the filters. The main purpose of this paper is to find a suitable filter design method which ensures that the resulting error system is exponentially mean-square stable and extended dissipative. Sufficient conditions are established to make sure the solvability of the addressed problem. By using appropriate decoupling method, some conditions that could be readily solved are obtained. The DC-DC converter for fuel cell vehicles should be characterized by high-gain, low voltage stress, small size and high-efficiency. However, conventional two-level, three-level and cascaded boost converters cannot meet the requirements. A new non-isolated DC-DC converter with switched-capacitor and switched-inductor is proposed in this paper, which can obtain high-gain, wide input voltage range, low voltage stresses across components and common ground structure. In this paper, the operating principle, component parameters design, and comparisons with other high-gain converters are analyzed. Moreover, the state-space averaging method and small-signal modeling method are adopted to obtain the dynamic model of converter. Finally, simulation and experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed topology. The input voltage of the experimental prototype ranges from 25 V to 80 V. This paper deals with a state-feedback control scheme for nonlinear stochastic systems with Markovian switching. First, we present the results on the practically $ {p}$ -moment exponential stability with respect to an additional disturbance and the practically $ {p}$ -moment asymptotic stability relying on a specific event. However, elements in this event are hard to be observed directly. The main aim of this paper is to develop a self-triggered sampling rule to overcome this difficulty. By applying the improved monotone growth condition, Itô’s formula, Fubini’s theorem, Gronwall inequality, and comparison lemma, we establish a novel lemma to estimate the lower bound and upper bound of second-moment for state and error, respectively. Moreover, we also establish the practically asymptotic stability in mean square with the help of Jensen’s inequality technique, properties of $ {\mathcal {K}}$ -function and result on $ {p}$ -moment input-to-state stability. Furthermore, from Lipschitz continuity and monotonicity of functions, we obtain the value of the maximum triggering interval based on lasted-observed state. This paper investigates an event-based tracking problem of networked second-order systems with unknown inertias and switching networks, where the leader’s trajectory is dynamic and is available to only a subset of followers. Besides, the followers have only local interactions. A new class of distributed event-triggered control protocols with and without velocity measurements are designed to guarantee the tracking performance. Furthermore, it is strictly proved that the proposed algorithms guarantee a fully Zeno-free triggering for all the agents. This paper demonstrates for the first time the use of microplasma to perform AND, OR, and XOR logic operations. The logic circuits are implemented similar to diode-resistor logic. Output voltages are in the range of \(5-40\) V and can be modified by varying the load resistor. The active area of the microplasma device is just \(50~\mu \) m \(\times 5~\mu \) m. The small interelectrode gap kept breakdown voltage to \(\sim 250\) V when operated in He gas at atmospheric pressure. This paper depicts an accident that happened in 2010 in a Brazilian chemical plant. A combination of different events, installations, and commissioning errors coupled with equipment failures involving the primary substation resulted in catastrophic failure. A single-phase failure of a 138-kV disconnect switch, during closing, initiated events and phenomena that resulted in a complete plant shutdown. This paper will walk the reader through the events, forensics analysis, and power system analysis that allowed the authors to identify what happened, how it happened, and what to do to prevent it from happening again. This paper will show how the anatomy of the problem, involving equipment failure, single-phase arcing, switching transients, overvoltage, capacitive coupling, transferred surge voltages, ungrounded system, transient overvoltage due to an arcing ground fault on an ungrounded system, insulation coordination, flashover, and lack of adequate surge protection, all of which resulted in a catastrophic failure of an arc resistant switchgear and a potentially serious arc flash incident. This paper presents a novel oscillation wave test system (OWTS) to detect the partial discharge (PD) of mounting defects in power cable insulation. In the proposed system, a charging capacitor is added to the circuit topology based on the traditional OWTS. The charging capacitor is charged to the desired voltage by a high-voltage DC power source. After the charging process, the test cable sample is charged by the capacitor. The resonant circuit is formed by the charging capacitor, the test cable, and the resonant reactor to create an oscillating decay voltage. With this novel method, no space charge is injected into the cable insulation. The effect of the charging capacitance on the charging efficiency is calculated with the Multisim software. This paper describes the working principle and the assembly of a laboratory prototype for the PD detection of a 500 m cable circuit. The test results show the feasibility of the novel OWTS method. An increasingly important trend in the design of industry-strength embedded systems is the integration of multiple services with varying criticality levels into a common computing platform. Such systems are characterized as mixed-criticality multiservice systems (MCMSs). An MCMS has to survive in rigorous environments posed by industry-level requirements. Such survival, however, is becoming continuously more challenging due to the growing system complexity and integrating more and more services. While existing works typically target reliability-driven design optimization to improve the system robustness rather than deal with the surviving problem of the system in extreme physical environments, this paper addresses the problem by enabling the service capability transitions of an MCMS to adapt to the environments. This paper proposes a service capability model to capture the importance of functional modules for the criticality of different services. A model-based service-capability transition mechanism is designed to automatically identify the maximum allowed service capability under a given physical environment. A case study of the proposed techniques was performed on an industrial Ethernet switch which is a typical MCMS, to validate the capability of adaptation to high and low temperatures. In this paper, the stability problem of sampled data Takagi–Sugeno fuzzy control systems with packet dropouts is investigated. A sampling-dependent time-varying Lyapunov function (SDTVLF) is constructed to analyze the stability problem of the system and a switched system approach is proposed to model the packet dropouts phenomenon. On this basis, by dividing the sampling input available interval and unavailable interval into several segments, the matrix functions of the SDTVLF are chosen to be continuous piecewise linear. Then, by using the proposed SDTVLF approach, computable convex conditions are obtained for the sampling input unavailable interval and the sampling input available interval in framework of dwell time. By confining the sampling input unavailable interval with an upper bound and confining the sampling input available interval with a lower bound, the SDTVLF is always decreasing in all sampling input available and unavailable interval, which can make the sampled control system tolerate a larger packet dropout rate. This paper considers the global stabilization for a class of uncertain nonlinear systems with unknown powers, unknown control directions, and unknown nonlinearities. Mainly due to the presence of the unknown powers which have not known upper bound, no existing methods are applicable to the control problem to be solved. In this paper, to compensate the serious system uncertainties and particularly to overcome the major obstruction from unknown powers, we appeal to the mechanism of switching adaptive feedback. By flexibly combining the domination and the method of adding a power integrator, we propose a new adaptive controller design, whose design parameters are tuned online based on a switching logic. The designed controller will become operative as long as finite switchings happen and will not lead to Zeno phenomenon, and can guarantee the global boundedness as well as ultimate convergence of the resulting closed-loop system. This paper solves the adaptive consensus problem for first-order linearly parameterized agents with completely nonidentical unknown high-frequency gain signs under directed graphs. A new class of Nussbaum-type function-based algorithms are proposed to handle the unknown high-frequency gain signs adaptively and cooperatively. It is shown that if the underlying topology is a fixed graph with strongly connected or switching topologies having a jointly strongly connected basis, the first-order linearly parameterized agents with nonidentical unknown high-frequency gain signs can achieve asymptotic consensus. This paper presents a robust event-triggered model predictive control (MPC) strategy for multiple high-speed trains (MHSTs) with random switching topologies. Due to the complicated operation environment of high-speed railways, the communication topology of MHSTs system is time-varying and changes among a set of directed graphs, which can be characterized as a Markov chain. By adopting the concept of MPC, this paper studies the distributed cooperative leader-following consensus control for MHSTs, in which a novel event-triggered strategy is introduced to determine when information exchange among neighboring trains and control update are executed. Firstly, the leader-following consensus problem of MHSTs system is transformed to the stabilization of a Markov jump system and a sufficient condition for leader-following consensus is derived with stability analysis of the Markov jump system based on the robust event-triggered MPC scheme. Then, the robust event-triggered MPC algorithm which minimizes the objective function is proposed. By optimizing the objective function, the deviation of states and amplitude of the control force are optimized. The possibility of operating distributed generation (DG) in islanded mode brings several benefits but still faces some problems, especially related to the transition from a grid-connected to an islanded operating condition. When connected to the main grid, DG units operate in PQ mode. During this transition, their controls must be changed to regulate frequency and voltage. The delay for islanding detection, associated with abrupt changes in the control references, may result in large and detrimental transients. This paper proposes a new control structure for a distributed synchronous generator (DSG) to allow a smooth transition from the grid-connected to the islanded operation mode. The proposed control structure uses a compensation loop that was conceived based on the main ideas of the anti-windup bumpless transfer (AWBT) theory (although it is not, strictly speaking, an AWBT controller). The results show that the proposed structure ensures smaller excursions of the DSG variables during the transition and, therefore, the possibility of a successful formation of the islanded system is extended to a wider range of operating conditions. The randomly switching communication topologies are of particular interest for researchers in the field of consensus control since the communication connection among multiple agents can randomly change with time and space. Following this pattern, this paper models the communication topology with the Markovian randomly switching graphs, since the Markovian chain process is usually used to model the network with Rayleigh fading channel. In this stochastic framework, this paper focuses on the consensus control and performance improvement problems of grouped agents with linear or linearized nominal dynamics. To solve this problem, a class of state-feedback controllers is proposed under the assumption that all the state measurements are available. These controllers are intrinsically distributed since they solely require the relative information between neighboring agents. Moreover, the notion of $\mathcal {H}_{\infty }$ ($\mathcal {H}_2$) stochastic consensus region integrated with transient performance is defined to measure the robustness of the proposed controllers with respect to the communication topologies. This paper theoretically shows that these controllers yield unbounded consensus region, which implies that they are well-designed. Furthermore, these controllers can improve the $\mathcal {H}_{\infty }$ , $\mathcal {H}_2$ consensus, and transient performances of agents subject to external and initial-state disturbances. This paper proposes a novel polygonal voltage space vector structure (SVS) having 30 sides, for a star-connected induction motor drive. The SVS eliminates the presence of harmonics up to 25th order from motor phase voltage throughout the entire modulation range, providing a torque profile devoid of lower order pulsations. Linear modulation is extended till 99.63% of base speed without exceeding the motor phase voltage rating. Topology consists of a dc-link fed primary inverter and two equal low voltage modular capacitor fed secondary inverters. Here the harmonics generated by the primary inverter is canceled by the secondary inverter which acts as a switched capacitive filter. An electrical transient model (ETM) of insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT)-diode switching cell is developed by coupling a temperature-dependent IGBT model with power loss model. The nonlinear behavior of IGBT and the reverse recovery characteristic of the diode are considered in this model to simulate the transient switching waveforms. Based on the transient waveforms of ETM under various operating conditions, the power loss estimation method (PLEM) for IGBT is developed. In addition to traditional modeling techniques that only uses ideal switch, this paper uses the model to replicate the power loss behaviors of semiconductor devices in circuit simulation by looking up tables. The proposed ETM is simulated in PSCAD/EMTDC with nanosecond time step, whereas the overall system application can be simulated with conventional time step in range of microsecond. By this way, the model can promise reasonable accuracy as well as an acceptable fast solving speed. The proposed ETM and PLEM have been implemented in PSCAD/EMTDC simulator and validated by experimental results using a double pulse test bench and boost converter test platform. The analysis of wind turbine output power measurements from the offshore wind farm Horns Rev 1 demonstrates a significant likelihood of wind turbine output powers to be very similar at a given time within offshore wind farms. This paper exploits this observation by proposing a new offshore wind farm configuration with DC collection system and series-connected wind turbines based on partial power processing converters (PPPCs) and diode-bridge rectifiers. In the proposed wind farm configuration, PPPCs are only required to process output power differences among wind turbines in a wind farm to achieve maximum power point (MPP) operation, yielding a potential for efficiency and sizing improvements. This paper addresses major design considerations at wind farm, wind turbine, and PPPC levels. System operation of the wind turbine design is derived, alongside with a matching control system and HVDC-link current scheduling algorithm. The proposed wind farm is successfully tested for low voltage ride through, power curtailment, inertia response, and communication system outage scenarios. Time-transient simulations of a 30-turbine series string using measured and artificial wind speed profiles demonstrate that wind turbines can achieve MPP operation while only a fraction of power needs to be processed by the PPPCs. An increasing number of offshore wind farms are connected to the public grid with large-scale HVDC links. The electrical transients caused by the energization of the export transformers appear more significant in the converter-driven offshore AC grid with low short-circuit power, than in direct AC grid connections. This may lead to a violation of the 2% voltage dip criterion, thus seriously affecting the production of neighboring wind farms. Additionally, the transformer and the entire insulation system are exposed to mechanical and dielectric stress. This paper investigates the influence of three factors, namely excitation, switching angle, and remnant core magnetization, onto the inrush current. Electromagnetic transient simulations and field measurements show that with a smart use of the on load tap changer, point on wave switching, and a demagnetization of the core by a cable-shunt swing circuit, the three factors above can be used as degrees-of-freedom to effectively mitigate the inrush current phenomenon. This two-part paper presents a method to mitigate half-cycle saturation of transformers caused by monopolar operation of neighboring HVDC transmission lines while keeping the ability to detect the zero-sequence fault currents (ZSFC) when ground faults occur. Part I of this paper has presented the mitigation principles and device design of the proposed neutral current blocking switch. In Part II, the performance of the proposed method to permit the circulation of zero-sequence current is investigated. An operation strategy is proposed that simultaneously allows the mitigation of half-cycle saturation and the detection of ZSFC. Simulations on a widely-used 500 kV system show that the proposed mitigation technique, using a sub-synchronous switching frequency (no higher than 30 Hz), can effectively mitigate the half-cycle saturation while allowing the circulation of ZSFC. The novel mitigation method exploits the characteristic differences between half-cycle saturation (dc) and asymmetric faults (ac). The method provides an implementable solution to the dc-bias phenomenon because it delivers concurrently dc-bias mitigation, minimal impact on ground fault detection, and no switching stresses on the power electronic switches. In this paper, the problems of nonfragile and nonsynchronous synthesis for Bernoulli switched systems are studied. The disturbances in the systems are assumed to have bounded peak in the sense of mean square. With the interval additive gain variations consideration, a nonfragile and nonsynchronous controller is designed subject to a nonsynchronous assumption that the switching signals of the system are not accurately gained for synthesis. A sufficient condition that is dependent on the known sojourn probabilities of switching signals is proposed to ascertain the reachable set of the closed-loop system, which is a hidden Bernoulli model, mean square contained in an ellipsoid-like set. Several nonfragile and nonsynchronous controllers are parameterized to guarantee the corresponding requirements to be satisfied for the closed-loop systems. The development of wide band-gap semiconductor devices is rapidly promoting the development of power electronics technology, especially in high frequency (HF) power converter region. A category of HF power converter is switch-mode power amplifier (PA). This paper focuses on the implementation of a multiphase dc–dc PA with high bandwidth and high power rate. When naturally sampled phase-shifted carrier modulation is implemented in the practical digital control system to control this HF power converter, the pulsewidth error problem caused by limited domain frequency of control chip becomes much severer. As a result, dc voltage component of each phase becomes different under several conditions, leading to current imbalance among phase inductors. This paper analyzes this problem and proposes a sensorless control method to solve it, based on the injection of random sequence in reference wave. A four-phase prototype employing GaN devices is fabricated, switching at 1 MHz. Current imbalance and effectiveness of the proposed control method are verified by experimental results. The prototype is capable of uniformly amplifying sine signal within 200 kHz and a 350 kHz bandwidth random signal, with peak output power up to 810 W. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents an optimization method for selective harmonic elimination in a cascaded multilevel inverter using teaching–learning-based optimization (TLBO). The main objective in selective harmonic elimination (SHE) strategy is to eliminate low-order harmonics by solving nonlinear equations and reaching optimal solution, while the fundamental component is satisfied. In this paper, in one side, the influence of optimal dc sources is investigated to reach the SHE goal, and in another side, comparing optimization methods is considered. In this paper, the TLBO as a recently emerged nature-inspired algorithm is presented to provide better results for the SHE in comparison with genetic algorithm, artificial bee colony, imperialistic competitive algorithm, harmony search, ant colony optimization, particle swarm optimization, and differential evolution. For better comparison of those methods and influence of optimal dc sources, 5-, 9-, and 15-level inverters are chosen and MATLAB software is used for optimization. Simulation results show the superiority of TLBO, higher precision and probability of convergence than other mentioned algorithms. Finally, to validate the influence of optimal dc sources and the accuracy of TLBO results, the experimental setup is conducted for a 5-level cascaded H-bridge inverter with optimal dc sources.
