Since 2006, the University of Tennessee's Preston Medical Library has collected survey feedback from exiting residents through targeted emails or at the required exit process in the library. Questions ask residents which types of articles or sources they use to find information and address the resident's use of the library's physical space. Survey results from 2006 to 2021 were examined for trends and changes in resident utilization of resources to better inform future library decisions on instruction and marketing. Resident resource usage varied over time and demonstrated an encouraging increase in attention to evidence-based tools. UpToDate's consistent popularity shows the durability of the product. A reported increase in use of reviews, randomized controlled trials, case reports, and practice guidelines reflects greater employment of more in-depth resources than merely expert opinion. This article focuses on a survey of primary visual arts resources that was conducted in Tennessee in 2004 for the completion of a master's degree at the University of Tennessee's School of Information Sciences. Available resources for scholars looking for primary documents on the arts are highlighted. Private universities in Tennessee that contain online descriptions about primary art collections include Fisk University, the University of the South, and the Vanderbilt University. Several reasons for the lack of resources and limited accessibility of existing art records are discussed.

Voter turnout for federal elections in Tennessee is historically lower than in most other states. Public libraries have long been involved in empowering citizens and assisting eligible voters in the registration process as well as steering them toward sources to help them make informed decisions when voting. This article reports on a 2018 survey of librarians working in public libraries in Tennessee. Seventy-one responding public libraries reported about the level of assistance provided to patrons regarding voter registration and accessing desired information about elections and candidates. Respondents also reported the kinds of activities that their libraries provide and what types of election information sources are suggested to patrons. Findings suggest that 97% of respondents provide some level of assistance in this area and 65% were interested in increasing the services they provide. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article presents findings from a comparison of electronic resources troubleshooting tickets submitted during a one-year period at Texas A&M University and University of Tennessee Knoxville. The authors used a classification previously developed by Mark Hemhauser and Rebecca Goldfinger at University of Maryland, College Park to categorize the types electronic resources access problems reported at their respective institutions. The findings suggest that academic libraries deal with similar electronic resources access problems at a similar rate. The authors recommend adopting this classification to categorize types of electronic resources access problems profession-wide in order to increase efficiency in reporting and resolving electronic resources access problems. This article summarizes a survey designed to assess consumer health information services in United States medical libraries and describes how survey data informed the planning process for redesigning a medical library. The survey included multiple choice and ranking questions about staffing, space, services, and resources. Identifying characteristics of existing consumer health information services may be useful for libraries implementing or expanding such a service. The importance of patient education is acknowledged through recent research, Joint Commission, and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Electronic Health Records requirement for patient education. Background: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) affects a large percentage of the US population. Survivors are under-served and recognized. The current mechanisms to contact patients and provide access to needed services appear ineffective. Objective: To review the effectiveness of current TBI outreach using registries. Methods: This study reviewed practices of the local TBI programme containing a registry utilized for outreach. Then, using a standardized questionnaire focusing on the TBI registry structure and its follow-up techniques, self-proclaimed registries were contacted and compared across the nation. Results: Twelve additional TBI programmes were contacted. Eight others had actual registries used for follow-up. The principal mechanism was postal mail. Mail response rates varied from 0.54-25%. Programmes were limited by funding, staffing and access to contact information. Conclusion: Postal mail has not been a successful follow-up method for TBI registries. New structuring of letters and alternative contact techniques are needed. Improved access to those individuals with TBI's contact information and funding would likely also aid programmes managing this public health epidemic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Preston Medical Library is an academic medical center library serving the University of Tennessee (UT) Graduate School of Medicine and the UT Medical Center. The library's users are beginning to adopt mobile technology in their work. Consequently, to increase the library's relevancy to this mobile population, the library began a program of classes on health-related mobile apps tailored to medical residents, students, and faculty, in addition to a separate class aimed at the general public. The library put in place a process to study user preferences for mobile apps, and the results of these classes, by surveying participants. In Tennessee, several medical library outreach projects have involved collaborative work with health-care professionals, public librarians, consumers, faith-based organizations and community service agencies. The authors arc medical librarians who worked as consultants, trainers and project directors to promote health literacy using PubMed MEDLINE and other health information resources in the several funding projects described here. It is noted that the U.S. Department of Energy has designated about 5,200 of its 14,800 hectares of land at Oak Ridge, Tennessee, as a national environmental research park. The Bibliography of Bioethics has published volume 6 of its continuing series covering 1800 documents published from 1973 through 1979.
