- Abstract
This paper opens new avenues for reflection on interdisciplinarity via the combinatory perspective that four "young researchers" propose on research evaluation practices, including editorial practices, call for proposals, teaching, recruitment, etc. For instance, all interdisciplinary journals impose specific requirements on their incoming authors. With this paper we wish to take their standpoint in order to highlight, discuss and organize these requirements into a usable product - a compass - that could eventually guide processes of interdisciplinary work evaluation. Therefore, our analysis is driven by the question of how to qualify patterns of interdisciplinarity in order to improve the methodological transparency of evaluation practices. Further, taking the example of editorial practices we start by presenting a brief inventory of the way in which interdisciplinarity gets objectified through practices, from the identification of the authors' disciplinary background via their institutional affiliations to the acknowledgement of combinatory approaches via the use of bibliometric measures. We then insist on the scarcely fixable, ever-changing character of the construction of interdisciplinary objects. We take this feature as the stepping point to revisit evaluation categories in order to make them more suitable to the dynamic process of interdisciplinary construction. Our goal is not to provide an additional analysis of the interdisciplinary object itself; rather we aim to provide a tool to scrutinize the author's interdisciplinary intents in relation to his/her own creation of the research object and his/her own objectivation perspective. Therefore, we propose a compass consisting of 5 axes, each reflecting a specific aspect of interdisciplinary practices at the interface between natures/sciences/societies: temporal dynamics of interdisciplinarity, distance between disciplines, collective dimensions of research practice, style of engagement in public debate and extra-academic scope. This article analyzes the potential for reshaping disciplinary divides by engaging with theories and movements that relate to educational change. Generating educational structures that diverge from conventional discipline-based models are a common way of attempting contemporary educational reforms. Interdisciplinary approaches are analyzed in this paper relative to theories of change in the context of secondary level education, with a focus on Québec, Canada. The purpose of this article is to understand and give meaning to the concept of interdisciplinarity within educational change and reform. This exploration proposes a conceptual map for understanding educational change efforts that aim towards rethinking disciplinarity.

In order to demonstrate the benefits of an anthropological approach to literary studies, this paper begins with introducing ethnocritique as a paradigm combining formal analysis and an awareness of the cultural components of texts. It then shifts to evaluate the faculty of ethnocritique to account for literature considered as discourse. Eventually, studying a short story by Maupassant (Saint-Antoine, 1883), it highlights how ethnocritique, integrated within the frame of discourse analysis, can unveil discursive activities, such as the mode of relation between reader and text, and, beyond, the efforts of positioning of the author in the literary field.

This introduction attempts to define the notion of manifesto by recalling its fundamentally interdisciplinary character, as well as its varying success in the eyes of both critics and artists. Inspired by the works of Perriault and Besnier, the notion of interdisciplinarity is linked to that of “indiscipline” in order to highlight the need for a transversal and fluid approach to knowledge. The paper also analyses the methodology of some contributions to the issue that make use of a database (the Manart database), a tool that’s main function is to classify, to work on hybrid documents such as manifestos. Their scientific protocol must be made explicit and refer to a broader reflection on digital humanities. Finally, the paper addresses the politics of manifestos, while studying the various discourses and acts of indiscipline contained in the issue, and turns our interest to the ones that benefit of the manifesto, this form of confrontation which is often hijacked for contradictory purposes.

International audience; This paper presents potential avenues for developing forms of interdisciplinarity able to identify the remaining blind spots between health and work. Based on examples discussed during an interdisciplinary seminar (2014-2015) and an international symposium (2016), the paper analyzes the consequences of the dependence of expertise on historically constructed knowledge and disciplines (in particular epidemiology). It also analyzes the impact of the lack of scientific research in certain themes on the capacity to develop a counter-expertise. It finally looks at how to make scientific knowledge more accessible and useful to people whose health is directly at stake. Far from definitively answering these questions, this article simply reports on how the problems were outlined and discussed by various categories of actors having participated in these meetings.; Este artículo presenta varias pistas de reflexión sobre las formas de interdisciplinariedad (s) capaces de revelar los puntos aún ciegos de los vínculos entre la salud y el trabajo.

Does the word “interface” have the same meaning for a designer and a computer science student? Beyond the different meaning between each of these domains, which mindset a student need to know to work now and in the future with others ? It is keeping those questions in mind that we designed an interdisciplinary workshop on interactive design. In this paper we relate the design and the deployment of this workshop. This workshop gathered during 3 years, designers and developers from different schools to create innovative projects on a specific thematic. In this paper we provide an analysis of this workshop and discuss the issues behind its successes and failures., Interfaces numériques, 3(2), 2014

The paper first reviews the paradoxical situation of the crisis in narratology, highlighting the fragility of an expansionism undermined by empiricism, due to the thinly stretched links between current research and the theoretical frameworks of narratology, which have been reduced to a succinct box of tools, disconnected from any interpretive issues. More than just a facile critique of formalism, the paper questions the relevance of theoretical modelizations given a wider cultural and political crisis. Secondly, it responds to Raphaël Baroni’s questioning of the reluctance of certain researchers to consider themselves to be narratologists, despite the fact that their work has shed new light on narrative analysis; referring to his own work, the writer covers some of his disagreements with the narrative theories of the 70’s. Thirdly, he tries to define the pragma-enunciative, rhetorical-textual concepts that characterize his approach and that transcend the category of narrative. Fourthly, the paper discusses some institutional or academic propositions about the place of narratology or that of other theoretical frameworks contributing to the analysis of narratives. It describes, in particular, the conditions which could facilitate interdisciplinary exchanges and improve the training offered to students, especially future language and literature teachers.

Research in cultural heritage sciences is an interdisciplinary work. In the Verspera project, historians, archivists, curators and computer scientists worked together on the very rich corpus of the Ancien Régime plans of the Château de Versailles. The Verspera project aimed to digitise, preserve and share this corpus with the general public, and to exploit it as 3D models and virtual visits. This paper summarises the different stages of the project and emphasises the breadth and interest of interdisciplinary work for the study of such a cultural heritage object.

This paper gives a first-person account of three contrasting experiences of interdisciplinary research (spanning life sciences and anthropology) on biodiversity issues, most often in the form of “participatory action research” projects. In these projects, the anthropologist is torn between an ideal of evening out power relationships in participatory research, which would ideally require a systematic co-construction approach, and the need to reaffirm her autonomy (with respect to the life sciences) in defining her research questions and methods. This results in uneasiness and friction. This contribution puts forward some guidelines for transcending this situation, including friendship and a shared normative horizon.

This paper reflects on the implications of the contemporary diversity of intellectual approaches to the study of social movements. Sketching some of the key dimensions of difference in the field, it explores the norma-tive intellectual questions raised by /acknowledging this diversity as well as the intellectual history questions involved in explaining it. In a global perspective, the question of what a " social movement studies of the global South " might mean exemplifies the challenge involved. The paper draws on Aristotle's typology of knowledge to suggest some ways of handling this situation , before concluding with some open questions., Le but du présent article est d’offrir un certain nombre de réflexions sur la diversité des approches actuelles à l’étude des mouvements sociaux.

Animals, history and natural historyThe social and human sciences have tended to see animals as actors in their own right, while seeking to avoid the fallacy of anthropomorphism. This paper argues that the prevailing conception of animals among historians is usually devoid of any reference to the “animality” of animals, i.e. to their biological potential and constraints. Against the grain of the dominant cultural approach in historiography (which fails to acknowledge the specificity of the animal sphere), the purpose of this paper is to use the resources of history and natural science in order to recognize and examine the animality of animals. Based on a case study of wolves, the paper argues that in order to address the many different facets of this issue, researchers will need to cross disciplinary boundaries and to combine the resources of different disciplines in order to develop a new epistemological framework, while combining ideas and concepts from both biology and history.

CNRS 4, HCERES C; International audience; The words “green ICTs” (information and communication technologies), “green IT” or “eco-ICTs” have spread in recent years either asserting the ecological potential of digital technologies or, on the contrary, underlining the progress needed in this field. Our paper raises the issue of ICT production and use, showing how they help to steer human societies towards more ecological ways, or on the other hand how they generate pollutions and “rebound effects”, which might more than cancel expected benefits. What stakes are currently involved in these terms? By crossing the contributions of several disciplines, the paper highlights a trend shared by many stakeholders who believe that the problem can be solved through technical advances and thus can be dropped out of their agendas.; Les termes de « TIC vertes », « Green IT » ou « éco-TIC » se propagent depuis plusieurs années afin d’affirmer le potentiel écologique des technologies numériques, tout en soulignant – par effet de miroir – les progrès qui doivent être accomplis dans ce secteur.

Recent developments in Scottish politics, such as the Scottish National Party’s resounding victory in the 2015 general election, would seem to attest to the existence of a strong sense of national identity underpinned by progressive values. This paper will suggest that popular music has played a significant role in the emergence of left-wing Scottishness. It will concentrate on the late 1980s, a key period of political change in Scotland when Margaret Thatcher’s Conservatives were increasingly marginalised, doubts were expressed about the direction of the Labour Party, and demands for devolution were growing. It will focus on two groups in particular—Runrig and the Proclaimers. Although groups in the 1970s and early 1980s, including the Bay City Rollers and Big Country, had tried to bring together aspects of Scottish identity and popular music, they tended to resort to invented traditions. Based on the theories of sociologists of rock according to which the meaning of music comes from its lyrics, sound and performance, this paper will argue that Runrig and the Proclaimers conveyed a contemporary left-wing version of Scottishness. Both groups not only reflected trends in Scottish society but also contributed to shaping them due to the large audience of young people that they attracted.

International audience; This paper opens new avenues for reflection on interdisciplinarity via the combinatory perspective that four “young researchers” propose on research evaluation practices, including editorial practices, call for proposals, teaching, recruitment, etc. For instance, all interdisciplinary journals impose specific requirements on their incoming authors. With this paper we wish to take their standpoint in order to highlight, discuss and organize these requirements into a usable product – a compass – that could eventually guide processes of interdisciplinary work evaluation. Therefore, our analysis is driven by the question of how to qualify patterns of interdisciplinarity in order to improve the methodological transparency of evaluation practices. Further, taking the example of editorial practices we start by presenting a brief inventory of the way in which interdisciplinarity gets objectified through practices, from the identification of the authors’ disciplinary background via their institutional affiliations to the acknowledgement of combinatory approaches via the use of bibliometric measures. We then insist on the scarcely fixable, ever-changing character of the construction of interdisciplinary objects. We take this feature as the stepping point to revisit evaluation categories in order to make them more suitable to the dynamic process of interdisciplinary construction. Our goal is not to provide an additional analysis of the interdisciplinary object itself; rather we aim to provide a tool to scrutinize the author’s interdisciplinary intents in relation to his/her own creation of the research object and his/her own objectivation perspective. Therefore, we propose a compass consisting of 5 axes, each reflecting a specific aspect of interdisciplinary practices at the interface between natures/sciences/societies: temporal dynamics of interdisciplinarity, distance between disciplines, collective dimensions of research practice, style of engagement in public debate and extra-academic scope.; Cet article est la réflexion commune de quatre « jeunes chercheurs » sur les pratiques d’évaluation de la recherche interdisciplinaire.

This paper was written as it was felt there was a need to create a simple but exhaustive system of assessment to evaluate the narrative skills of students doing Spanish as a foreign language and those studying it as their mother tongue. The main aim of this paper is to create and appraise a model capable of producing and evaluating written and oral skills of Italian B2 level students learning Spanish as a foreign language and Spanish students studying Spanish as part of their B2 level curriculum. What distinguishes this paper is its innovative semiotic approach which crossfertilizes the relationships between cinema and literature. Although two different narrative techniques are employed, these two elements develop the same semantic reference. Another original feature is that this study is not based on a simple comparison between the two genres but rather on the correlation between them. To this extend, a model called C.O.E.N was created. This didactic model concentrates on oral and written competency in Hispanic texts which can be evaluated once students learning Spanish as a second language have reached a B2 level, but also on mother tongue Spanish students who have reached the same level. This method links production and evaluation of oral and written competency in narrative texts. Due to length restrictions, this paper presents only the results of the analysis of Spanish learners’ written productions.

Published by the University of Strasbourg, the French Journal Revue des sciences sociales (RSS) celebrates its 50th birthday this year. It is the ideal moment for an analysis of its dynamics, by placing it in the context of the evolution of francophone social science journals. In this small world, a major trend has been abandon disciplinary entrenchment and to welcome interdisciplinary and/or international research. The RSS intends to descend from its ivory tower, as it is not a closed school of thought and promotes epistemological pluralism. The RSS also emphasizes the quality of images and illustrations, making scientific papers appealing to a wider audience.

International audience; This paper examines one-liners from a linguistics point of view, using them to address the question of how meaning emerges in context. A typology of one-liners is first proposed, in which the devices that they rely on are first described and discussed. The paper then tackles the question of what they can illustrate of the contextual emergence of meaning, the emphasis being put on constructedness. The paper argues in favour of the presence of merged representations, as opposed to successive, discrete interpretations—one of which is cancelled in the course of “getting” the one-liner. Additional remarks are made on how interpretability and humour are not two aspects of one and the same question, and a short discussion is included of how the formal and the functional dimensions can interact.; Dans cet article, on envisage les one-liners (blagues courtes supposées constituer une seule réplique) à partir de problématiques linguistiques.
