The main goal of this paper is to approach the techno-cultural behaviour of the Gravettian groups in NE Iberia through the study of the shell ornaments. Here we present the archaeo-malacological assemblage recovered at the Early Upper Palaeolithic sequence of Foradada Cave (Calafell, Tarragona). Recent excavations have uncovered a stratigraphic sequence formed by three main layers corresponding to the Late Pleistocene. The patterns of the archaeological record points to short and ephemeral human occupations, while most of the time the cave is occupied by medium and large size carnivores. The techno-typology and the first chronological approaches place these occupations along the Middle-to-Upper Palaeolithic transition, from the Chatelperronian to the Gravettian. The uppermost of these layers has provided a malacological assemblage composed of more than 160 shell beads that were mostly recovered in less than 1m2. A ?first direct AMS C14 age on a single Homalopoma sanguineum specimen date this layer ca.31 kyr cal BP, consistent with an attribution to the Early Gravettian. Traditionally the studies of perforation technology of shell beads have been based on subjective methods, like the typological characterization of their morphologies. Trying to overcome this, we have developed a 2D outline characterization of the perforations through an Elliptical Fourier Analysis. This test allows the preliminary evaluation of the shape differences between the species and their diferential technological management. To semi-automatically process the large amount data generated, the software package SHAPE has been used. The perforation techniques and suspension systems (as well as the use-wear traces) have been analysed first by digital microscopy equipment, allowing to create 3D models of the perforations. Later Environmental Scanning Electron Microscope (ESEM) was used to identify polished areas and wear features. Most of the ornaments are smeared in red ochre. The residue analysis was performed first visually with the digital microscope, and then complemented with the ESEM Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The further development of this work will allow to understand the role of shell beads as a group identity marker in the NE Iberia coastline during the Early Upper Palaeolithic.

The Late Neolithic and Chalcolithic periods are poorly understood in northeastern Iberia. Most of the information comes from the sepulchral structures rather than habitat settlements. The high number of individuals usually recovered from this types of collective burial spaces, together with the low number of direct radiocarbon dates available on them, forces us to be cautious and consider all the studied assemblages as belonging to the so-called Late Neolithic-Chalcolithic time period. To evaluate human dietary patterns of the Late Neolithic-Chalcolithic populations from the northeast of Iberia, stable carbon and nitrogen isotope analysis was carried out on 78 humans and 32 faunal bones from Cova de laGuineu (Font-rubí, Barcelona) and Cueva de Abauntz (Arraitz, Navarra), both of them sepulchral sites. Results show a common dietary pattern in both sites, indicating an homogeneous protein diet based on C3 terrestrial resources and no isotopic evidence of the consumption of C4 plants. Only one individual from Cueva de Abauntz, who directly dates to the first moments of the use of the cave as a burial place, suggests a different protein intake. The inter-population analysis shows a significant difference between both human and faunal δ13C values, suggesting an environmental influence on the isotope values depending on the geographic location. This effect should not be discarded and always assessed with baseline isotopic values in future studies at each area of Iberia and for different chronological moments.

El Penedès és un territori natural molt prolífic pel que fa a l'existència de jaciments arqueològics. La seva localització geogràfica i el seu context geomorfològic el fan apte per a l'establiment humà ja des de cronologies antigues. No obstant això, és a partir de l'holocè que el nombre de jaciments augmenta exponencialment, tot i que només una petita part dels llocs disposen d'informació arqueoestratigràfica útil a dia d'avui (Mestres i Esteve, 2016). Sense ànim de ser exhaustius en l'aspecte historiogràfic, les primeres dades sobre la prehistòria de l'Alt Penedès procedeixen de la Cova de Can Pasqual (Castellví de la Marca), on es documentaren restes d'un vas ceràmic cardial i d'altres restes, probablement de l'edat del bronze (Bosch Gimpera, 1923). Més tard es publiquen els treballs de l'Esquerda de les Roques del Pany (Torrelles de Foix), un jaciment amb una suposada seqüència que abraça tota la prehistòria recent.

Since the 1950s, archaeological activity has been especially prolific in Spanish regions such as Catalonia. This process brings the possibility to discover and excavate some of the most important archaeological sites in order to study the main cultural events in the past. This has been the case of Cova del Toll and Cova de la Font Major, whose cardial pottery collections have been a reference for the study of the Early Neolithic. However, methodological procedures employed at that moment do not help to give a strong, contextaulised dataset. In this work we present the results of the interventions carried out in both sites between 2006 and 2011. The combination of new Early Neolithic remains and short-lived C14 AMS dates has allowed us to put back the cardial phase of Cova del Toll, as well as to date for the first time de Early Neolithic of Cova de la Font Major. La reactivación de la actividad arqueológica española a partir de los años 1950, especialmente prolífica en algunas regiones como Cataluña, incorporó algunos yacimientos clave para el conocimiento de los grandes procesos culturales del pasado. Es el caso de las cuevas del Toll y Font Major cuyas colecciones de cerámica cardial, por su cantidad y calidad, han sido de referencia para el Neolítico antiguo en distintos momentos. En cambio cuentan con pocos o nulos datos contextuales debido a los métodos que se emplearon en esas primeras intervenciones. En este trabajo se presentan los resultados de las realizadas entre 2006 y 2011 en ambos yacimientos. La combinación de nuevos materiales encuadrables en distintas fases del Neolítico antiguo cardial con fechas radiocarbónicas de muestras de vida corta nos permite retrasar sensiblemente la fase cardial de la Cova del Toll, así como fechar por primera vez de forma absoluta la fase cardial de la Cova de la Font Major.

Revisió d'una estela iberica, descoberta l'any 1915, motivada per la troballa d'un manuscrit inedit d' A. Romaní (1926) i per la contrastació d'aquest amb les indicacions publicades per J. Oudiol (1916) i J. Danés (1932). La recuperació i relectura d'aquestes velles fonts permeten precisar millor algunes qüestions, com el lloc on fou localitzada o les vicissituds sofertes per la llosa, matisos no contemplats en l'estudi de J. Maluquer de Motes (1982). Es prossegueix amb una anàlisi detallada dels fragments conservats al Museu Episcopal de Vic i, per primera vegada, s'inclou un dibuix directe acompanyat d'una reconstrucció hipotetica del seu aspecte en el moment d'aparició. També es dóna notícia de la localització a Tona d'un segon relleu. Tanquen l'estudi diverses consideracions respecte a la tècnica emprada, la morfologia, el programa icònic, la filiació i la possible cronologia. L'estela mostra lligams directes amb monuments afins ubicats al nord de l'Ebre i, en sentit ampli, amb el grup del Baix Aragó, fet que obliga a reconsiderar la problemàtica dels suposats «ausetans de l'Ebre». ____________________________________________ Révision d'une stele ibérique, localisé en 1915, grace a la découverte d'un manuscrit inédit signé par A. Romaní (1926) et la comparaison avec les données publiées par J. Gudiol (1916) et J. Danés (1932). La récupération et la relecture de cette ancienne information nous permettent d'offrir certaines précisions, par exemple, l'endroit de leur localisation et l'histoire de la stele, éléments pas pris en considération dans l'étude de J. Maluquer de Motes (1982). Ce travail présente l'analyse détaillée des fragments conservés au Musée Episcopal de Vic et, par la premiere fois, un des sin direct accompagné d'une reconstruction hypothétique de l'aspect original de la stelc au moment de la découverte. Nous donnons notice de la trouvaille aussi a Tona d'un second relief. CeUe étude finit avec certaines considérations a propos de la technique utilisée, la morphologie, le programme iconographique, la filiation et l'approche chronologique. La stele met en évidence des relations directes avec des monuments affins placés au nord de l'Ebre, et, au sens large, avec le groupe du Basse Aragon, sujet que nous oblige repenser la problématique des supposées « ausetans de l'Ebre ».

Mitjançant la intervenció d'Oriol Mercadal, responsable del Museu Cerda de Puigcerda, han arribat a les nostres mans tres eines lítiques treballades per 1'home, procedents d'un jaciment cereta. La nostra intenció és tan soIs publicar els materials i reflexionar arran de la possible cronologia d'aquestes eines per paral-lels amb altres materials semblants i propers geograficament parlant.
