The influence of immobilized proteases such as catalytin (a complex preparation containing the protease terrilytin and the antiseptic catapol) and streptodecase (an activator of fibrinolysis proteases) on the humoral immune response induced by the thymus-dependent antigen (SRBC) under conditions of burns and Staphylococcus infected burns was studied. The immobilized proteases catalytin and streptodecase had an immunostimulating effect under conditions of extended burns. Catalytin had an immunocorrigating effect under conditions of the infected burns. It was suggested that the complex enzyme-containing preparation catalytin and the immobilized activator of fibrinolysis proteases streptodecase were promising immunopharmacological agents in combined treatment of pathological processes accompanied by the development of immune deficiency as a secondary condition.

The actuality of the problem is conditioned by the persistence of residual inflammations in a significant number of the patients with urogenital infections after the completion of the etiotropic therapy. The main goal of the study was to develop a method for the treatment of post-gonorrheal and post-chlamydial colpitis, colpomycosis, endocervicitis and urethritis by local application of Ligenten, a gel containing gentamicin, ethonium and lidocaine (as an anesthetic). The trial included 28 females at the age of 20 to 58 years with residual inflammations in the urogenital organs after the completion of the antimicrobial therapy of the urogenital infections. The gel was applied locally as tamponade and/or irrigation of the urethra 1-2 times a day for 6 to 10 days. The results of the treatment showed that the residual inflammations were completely eliminated in 17 out of 26 patients, in 5 patients a significant improvement was stated and in 4 patients the treatment failed. The data indicated that Ligenten is useful in the complex treatment of urogenital infections as a local therapy of residual inflammations.

A clinical trial was made of a new gel ligenten intended for local urethral anesthesia and treatment of infection and inflammation in the lower urinary tracts. Ligenten was given to 52 patients to manage bladder, prostate, urethral infection and inflammation, for local prophylaxis before cystoscopy, urethral bouginage and transurethral surgery. Apparent advantages of intraurethral introduction of the analgetic compared to instrument lubrication are demonstrated. Ligenten was also effective against chronic cystitis, cystalgia and urethral syndrome in females, especially in ulcerative cystitis. The gel exhibited adequate antiinflammatory and analgetic effect. As a prophylactic means, it prevents inflammation in cystoscopy, urethral catheterization and transurethral operations. No severe side effects have been reported.

A new therapeutic in the form of a gel named ligenten was studied. The gel active components are lidocain, gentamicin and ethonium. Ligenten was shown to have a marked local anesthetic action when administered transurethrally. As a prophylactic agent the gel was highly active against the majority of the causative agents of renal infections due to cystoscopy, catheterization and bougienage of the urethra. Ligenten provided a sufficient anesthetic effect in transurethral operations but did not prevent superinfection due to the hospital strains. Marked antiinflammatory and reparative actions of the gel especially in the treatment of ulcerous cystitis were observed.

Preventive therapy of local radiation injuries was conducted in 46 patients with inoperable rectal cancer during a course of combined radiotherapy after a radical program. Preventive therapy of local radiation injuries included a general action drug and a local use of ethonium. This course of radiotherapy after a radical program with the delivery of doses up to 90-95 Gy resulted in the reduction of the number of late local radiation injuries.

Experimental neurogenous ulcer is accompanied by changes in the content of dopamin (DA) and dioxypyhenylalanine (DOPA) in the tissues of different functional regions of the stomach. Two hours following injury to the pyloroduodenal region, the content of DA rises, while that of DOPA declines. After 24 hours the content of the monoamine and especially that of the amino acid decreases along with emergence and development of morphological changes (hemorrhages, erosions, ulcers) in the gastric wall. The cholinolytic quateron administered prior to the injury prevents reliably the affection of the gastric mucosa and blocks to a certain measure DOPA depletion which is recorded 24 hours following exposure to the pathogenetic agent. The utiulcerous effect of quateron is potentiated by DOPA administration (100 mg/kg).

For 15 years now the participants of surgical operations have been using novasept for the treatment of hand and operation fields. Novasept contains synthetic cationactive substances and superficially active substances which moisten the skin and penetrate the pores. The drug possesses high bactericidal action and does not irritate the skin.

It has been demonstrated in experiments on cats and rabbits that a single and chronic administration of pentamine (1 mg/kg) produced a distinct variation in carbohydrate-energy metabolism in the tissue of different blood vessels, enhancing the glycolytic formation of ATP. Chronic administration of pentamine corrected metabolic disorders in rabbit vascular tissue in experimental pituitrin-induced hypertension.

It was shown on albino male rats that acute intoxication with CCl4 leads to damage of the liver glutathione system. Ethonium and silibor against the background of intoxication contribute to an earlier normalization of the glutathione system parameters.

New data have been made available which confirm the existence of differing quateron sensitivity of tissular monaminoxidases possessing dissimilar substrate specificity. An experimental neurogenic dystrophy of the stomach is attended on the whole by an activated deamidization of monamines, but there could be seen marked differences in the ability to intensify oxidation depending upon the localization of the mitochondrial monaminoxidases in various parts of the stomach. When introduced to intact animals in a dose of 5 mg/kg quateron tends to lower the activity of mitochondrial monaminoxidases in individual receptor areas of the stomach with respect to norepinephrine and, especially, serotonin. In such instances preliminary introduction of quateron prevents an activated oxidation of norepinephrine and serotonin, observed 24 hours after inflicting an injury. In the mechanisms governing deposition of catecholamines and serotonin in the gastric wall occurring under the effect of quateron a definite role plays also the inhibition of the mitochondrial monaminoxidases.

Under analysis were results of the application of an antiseptic drug katamin AB from the group of quaternary ammonium compounds for the treatment of the operation field in 435 patients. They have confirmed a high antimicrobial activity of the katamin AB, its continuous effect, simplicity, reliability and quick use. The author recommends it for the treatment of the operation field.
