Objective: In this study, we aimed to evaluate the combined diagnostic value of procalcitonin (PCT), C-reactive protein (CRP), and serum amyloid A (SAA) in sepsis caused by urinary tract infection. Method: A total of 80 patients with urosepsis who were hospitalized were included in the study group, and 80 patients with urinary tract infection without sepsis were included in the control group. We collected the PCT, SAA, and CRP levels of patients following admission. Subsequently, we conducted a comparative analysis to assess the specificity, accuracy, and sensitivity of combined diagnostic approaches in contrast to individual diagnostic methods for blood PCT, SAA, and CRP. Results: The levels of PCT, SAA, and CRP in the study group were significantly higher than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P < 0.01). Multi-factor logistic regression analysis revealed that the levels of PCT (P = 0.003) and SAA (P = 0.014) were associated with urosepsis. The sensitivity of PCT was 87.133% and the specificity was 93.066%, which were higher than that of SAA and CRP. The specificity of the combined detection of the three was 95.670%, which was higher than that of PCT, SAA, and CRP alone. Correlation analysis revealed that PCT had a significant positive correlation with CRP and SAA (P < 0.01), and a weak correlation with white blood cell count (WBC) and fibrinogen (FIB) (P = 0.03 for WBC, P = 0.04 for FIB). Conclusion: PCT, SAA, and CRP indicators in patients with urosepsis are significantly elevated, and all three are valuable in the diagnosis of urosepsis. PCT alone has good diagnostic efficiency for urosepsis, and a certain correlation with other inflammatory factors. This work was designed to evaluate the effect of four enzyme-assisted extraction (EAE) combined hydrodistillation (HD) methods on the yield, microstructure and chemical composition of essential oil (EO) from leaves of Cinnamomum longepaniculatum (Gamble) N. Chao ex H. W. Li. The chemical composition of EO was analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Changes in the microstructure of leaf residues were observed by scanning electron microscopy. Response surface methodology was used to predict the best conditions for the EO extraction with the most effective enzyme pretreatment. Further, the anxiolytic effect and mechanism of the optimized EO were investigated by the open-field test (OFT), elevated plus-maze test (EPMT), hole-board test (HBT) and the assay of neurotransmitter concentrations (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT; γ-aminobutyric acid, GABA; norepinephrine, NE). The results showed that different enzyme pretreatments increased the yield and quality of EO and disrupted the cell wall. The circumscribed-β-glucan/hemicellulose enzyme (1:1) pretreatment (4.33%) was the most effective compared to the enzyme-free group (2.82%). The optimum extraction process conditions were: pH:5, enzymolysis time: 67 min and digestion temperature: 48.5 °C. Under these conditions, the maximum yield of EO was 4.37%. After inhalation of EO, mice showed significant anxiolytic effects in EPMT, HBT, and OFT. In addition, EO significantly down-regulated 5-hydroxytryptamine and NE levels and up-regulated GABA levels. Key message: Unreduced megagametophytes via second-division restitution were confirmed through heterozygosity analysis, and four candidate physical centromeres of rubber were located for the first time. The evaluation of maternal heterozygosity restitution (MHR) is vital in identifying the mechanism of 2n gametogenesis and assessing the utilization value of 2n gametes. In this study, three full-sib triploid populations were employed to evaluate the MHR of 2n female gametes of rubber tree clone GT1 and to confirm their genetic derivation. The 2n female gametes of GT1 were derived from second-division restitution (SDR) and transmitted more than half of the parental heterozygosity. In addition, low recombination frequency markers were developed, and four candidate physical centromeres of rubber tree were located for the first time. The confirmation that 2n female gametes of rubber tree clone GT1 are derived from SDR provides insights into the molecular mechanisms of 2n gametogenesis. Osteoporosis, a metabolic bone disease characterized by low bone mineral density and deterioration of bone microarchitecture, has led to a high risk of fatal osteoporotic fractures worldwide. Accumulating evidence has revealed that sexual dimorphism is a notable feature of osteoporosis, with sex-specific differences in epidemiology and pathogenesis. Specifically, females are more susceptible than males to osteoporosis, while males are more prone to disability or death from the disease. To date, sex chromosome abnormalities and steroid hormones have been proven to contribute greatly to sexual dimorphism in osteoporosis by regulating the functions of bone cells. Understanding the sex-specific differences in osteoporosis and its related complications is essential for improving treatment strategies tailored to women and men. This literature review focuses on the mechanisms underlying sexual dimorphism in osteoporosis, mainly in a population of aging patients, chronic glucocorticoid administration, and diabetes. Moreover, we highlight the implications of sexual dimorphism for developing therapeutics and preventive strategies and screening approaches tailored to women and men. Aplastic anemia (AA) is a life-threatening disease characterized by bone marrow (BM) failure and pancytopenia. As an important component of the BM microenvironment, endothelial cells (ECs) play a crucial role in supporting hematopoiesis and regulating immunity. However, whether impaired BM ECs are involved in the occurrence of AA and whether repairing BM ECs could improve hematopoiesis and immune status in AA remain unknown. In this study, a classical AA mouse model and VE-cadherin blocking antibody that could antagonize the function of ECs were used to validate the role of BM ECs in the occurrence of AA. N-acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC, a reactive oxygen species scavenger) or exogenous EC infusion was administered to AA mice. Furthermore, the frequency and functions of BM ECs from AA patients and healthy donors were evaluated. BM ECs from AA patients were treated with NAC in vitro, and then the functions of BM ECs were evaluated. We found that BM ECs were significantly decreased and damaged in AA mice. Hematopoietic failure and immune imbalance became more severe when the function of BM ECs was antagonized, whereas NAC or EC infusion improved hematopoietic and immunological status by repairing BM ECs in AA mice. Consistently, BM ECs in AA patients were decreased and dysfunctional. Furthermore, dysfunctional BM ECs in AA patients led to their impaired ability to support hematopoiesis and dysregulate T cell differentiation toward proinflammatory phenotypes, which could be repaired by NAC in vitro. The reactive oxygen species pathway was activated, and hematopoiesis- and immune-related signaling pathways were enriched in BM ECs of AA patients. In conclusion, our data indicate that dysfunctional BM ECs with impaired hematopoiesis-supporting and immunomodulatory abilities are involved in the occurrence of AA, suggesting that repairing dysfunctional BM ECs may be a potential therapeutic approach for AA patients. Background: Pain is a contributing factor to the low compliance rate for performing a colonoscopy on screening for colorectal cancer. Purpose: This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the effect of visual distraction on adults undergoing colonoscopy. Methods: We searched PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library Database from their inception to February 2022. Randomized controlled trials comparing visual distraction with non-visual distraction were considered for inclusion. The fixed-effects and random-effects models were used to pool the data from individual studies and the Cochrane risk of bias assessment tool was used to determine the methodology quality. Results: This meta-analysis included four studies (N = 301) for pain level and total procedure time, three studies (N = 181) for satisfaction score, three studies (N = 196) for anxiety level, and four studie (N = 402) for willingness to repeat the procedure. The pooled analysis shown that significantly lower pain levels (SMD, − 0.25; 95% CI − 0.47 to − 0.02; P = 0.03), higher satisfaction score with the procedure (SMD, 0.63; 95% CI, 0.33 to 0.93; P < 0.0001), and higher willingness to repeat the procedure (OR, 2.66; 95% CI 1.70 to 4.17; P < 0.0001) in the visual distraction group than those in the non-visual distraction group, with no significant differences in total procedure time (SMD,− 0.07; 95% CI − 0.30 to 0.15; P = 0.53) or anxiety level (SMD,− 0.27; 95% CI − 0.55 to 0.01; P = 0.06). Conclusions: Visual distraction improved the patient's pain, satisfaction, and willingness to repeat the procedure. We synthesize a phosphor by combining trimethylammonium tetraphenyl porphyrin with palladium (II), obtaining Pd–TTAP, and investigate its interaction with graphene oxide (GO). Pd–TTAP and GO are found to be noncovalently bonded, according to high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis), room temperature phosphorescence spectroscopy (RTP), Raman spectroscopy, and infrared spectroscopy (IR). The binding constant is 2.32 × 104 M−1, calculated using the Benesi–Hildebrand method, and a photoelectric response test finds that photo-induced electrons are transferred from the triplet excited state of Pd–TTAP to GO under visible light excitation. Our results demonstrate that Pd–TTAP can serve as an eff ective energy donor, with GO as an electron acceptor, in photoelectric conversion systems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Acupuncture is an ancient therapeutic method based on the theory of Chinese medicine (CM). Traditional acupuncture has many limitations; it is subjective and relies more on the experience of an acupuncturist, and the efficacy is sometimes irreproducible. In contrast, electroacupuncture (EA) has special characteristics in terms of objectivity and stability, thereby gaining considerable attention. Parameter setting plays a crucial role in EA practice. The current paper summarizes the current situation and limitations of parameter setting in EA practice. Objectification is the tendency and future of CM as well as EA. With the development of computerized technologies, such as wearable sensors, vast data, and artificial intelligence, CM syndromes can be successfully objectified. A series of Er3+-doped Ca12-xErxAl14O33 (C12A7) aluminate ceramics with upconversion (UC) photoluminescence were synthesized by the traditional solid-state reaction method. The effects of Er3+ content on the crystal structure and upconversion photoluminescence properties were systematically studied. A portion of the Er3+ ions enter the host lattice sites of C12A7 by substituting the Ca2+ ions, and other Er3+ ions may exist interstitially when the content of Er3+ ions is high. Under 980 nm laser excitation, all samples show two green emissions at 525 nm and 550 nm together with a red emission at 670 nm. With increased Er3+ doping, both the green and red emission intensities increase monotonically and reach a maximum at x = 0.7, then decrease with further doping of the Er3+. This variation trend in the intensities of the UC emission is consistent with that of the absorption cross-section (σabs) of Er3+ ions. The ultraviolet–visible–near-infrared absorption measurements and x-ray diffraction (XRD) results reveal that the Er3+ content determines the ratio of Er3+ ions in isolated and cluster sites, respectively, which is responsible for the σabs and the possibility of a cross-relaxation process. These results demonstrate that C12A7:Er3+ are good UC candidate materials and help us better understand the UC photoluminescence properties of aluminate ceramics which have rarely been studied to date. In this paper, we deal with the nonlinear second-order differential equation with damped vibration term involving p-Laplacian operator. Of particular interest is the resolution of an open problem. An interesting outcome from our result is that we can obtain the fast homoclinic solution with general superlinear growth assumption in suitable Sobolev space. This review is an update of two previous ones focusing on the limit of detection of electrochemical nucleic acid biosensors allowing direct detection of nucleic acid target (miRNA, mRNA, DNA) after hybridization event. A classification founded on the nature of the electrochemical transduction pathway is established. Mineral apatite compounds have attracted significant interest due to their chemical stability and adjustable hexagonal structure, which makes them suitable as new photovoltaic functional materials. The band gap of natural apatite is ~ 5.45 eV, and such a large value limits their applications in the field of catalysis and energy devices. In this research, we designed a method to narrow the band gap via the tetrahedral substitution effect in apatite-based compounds. The density functional theory (DFT) and experimental investigation of the electronic and optical properties revealed that the continuous incorporation of [MO4]4– tetrahedrons (M = Si, Ge, Sn, and Mn) into the crystal lattice can significantly reduce the band gap. In particular, this phenomenon was observed when the [MnO4]4– tetrahedron replaces the [PO4]4– tetrahedron because of the formation of a Mn 3d-derived conduction band minimum (CBM) and interacts with other elements, leading to band broadening and obvious reduction of the band gap. This approach allowed us to propose a novel scheme in the band gap engineering of apatite-based compounds toward an entire spectral range modification. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Key message: MiR394 plays a negative role in tomato resistance to late blight. The lncRNA40787 severing as an eTM for miR394 to regulate LCR and exerting functions in tomato resistance. Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum), which was used as model species for studying the mechanism of plant disease defense, is susceptible to multiple pathogens. Non-coding RNA (ncRNA) has a pivotal role in plants response to biological stresses. It has previously been observed that the expression level of miR394 changed significantly after the infection of various pathogens. However, there has been no detailed investigation of the accumulated or suppressed mechanism of miR394. Our previous study predicted three lncRNAs (lncRNA40787, lncRNA27177, and lncRNA42566) that contain miR394 endogenous target mimics (eTM), which may exist as the competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) of miR394. In our study, the transcription levels of these three lncRNAs were strongly up-regulated in tomato upon infection with P. infestans. In contrast with the three lncRNAs, the accumulation of miR394 was significantly suppressed. Based on the expression pattern, and value of minimum free energy (mfes) that represents the binding ability between lncRNA and miRNA, lncRNA40787 was chosen for further investigation. Results showed that overexpression of lncRNA40787 reduced the expression of miR394 along with decreased lesion area and enhanced disease resistance. Overexpression of miR394, however, decreased the expression of its target gene Leaf Curling Responsiveness (LCR), and suppressed the synthesis components genes of jasmonic acid (JA), depressing the resistance of tomato to P. infestans infection. Taken together, our findings indicated that miR394 can be decoyed by lncRNA40787, and negatively regulated the expression of LCR to enhance tomato susceptibility under P. infestans infection. Genomic amplification of the distal portion of chromosome 3q, which encodes a number of oncogenic proteins, is one of the most frequent chromosomal abnormalities in malignancy. Here we functionally characterise a non-protein product of the 3q region, the long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) PLANE, which is upregulated in diverse cancer types through copy number gain as well as E2F1-mediated transcriptional activation. PLANE forms an RNA-RNA duplex with the nuclear receptor co-repressor 2 (NCOR2) pre-mRNA at intron 45, binds to heterogeneous ribonucleoprotein M (hnRNPM) and facilitates the association of hnRNPM with the intron, thus leading to repression of the alternative splicing (AS) event generating NCOR2-202, a major protein-coding NCOR2 AS variant. This is, at least in part, responsible for PLANE-mediated promotion of cancer cell proliferation and tumorigenicity. These results uncover the function and regulation of PLANE and suggest that PLANE may constitute a therapeutic target in the pan-cancer context. Ce3+- or/and Dy3+-doped Mg2Al4Si5O18 phosphors have been fabricated via a sintering process at 1400°C for 5 h and their crystallinity and luminescence characteristics investigated. x-Ray powder diffraction analysis demonstrated that Ce3+/Dy3+ ions entered the Mg2Al4Si5O18 host and formed a solid solution. When excited at 345 nm, Ce3+-doped Mg2Al4Si5O18 phosphor emitted light in the blue region while Dy3+-doped Mg2Al4Si5O18 phosphor emitted light in the yellow region. When excited at 345 nm, emission bands located in both the blue and yellow regions were observed for the Ce3+/Dy3+-codoped Mg2Al4Si5O18 phosphor. Because of Ce3+ → Dy3+ energy transfers, the Ce3+/Dy3+-codoped Mg2Al4Si5O18 phosphor showed tunable luminescence, changing from the blue to yellow–green region through the white region with increasing Dy3+ concentration in the Ce3+/Dy3+-codoped Mg2Al4Si5O18 phosphor. The decay characteristics of the Ce3+ emission in the Ce3+/Dy3+-codoped Mg2Al4Si5O18 phosphors were also investigated. With increasing Dy3+ concentration, the lifetime of the Ce3+ emission decreased continuously, further confirming the occurrence of Ce3+ → Dy3+ energy transfer. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We performed a nested case-control study to investigate the incidence, treatment, and prognosis of central nervous system (CNS) relapse after allogenic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) for acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and compared the outcomes of patients with CNS relapse following haploidentical donor (HID) HSCT versus identical sibling donor (ISD) HSCT. A total of 37 patients (HID-HSCT, 24; ISD-HSCT, 13) developed CNS relapse after transplantation between January 2009 and January 2019, with an incidence of 1.81%. The median time from transplantation to CNS relapse was 239 days. Pre-HSCT CNS involvement (HR 6.940, 95% CI 3.146–15.306, p <.001) was an independent risk factor for CNS relapse after allo-HSCT for AML. The 3-year overall survival (OS) for patients with CNS relapse was 60.3 ± 8.8%, which was significantly lower than that in the controls (81.5 ± 4.5%, p =.003). The incidence of CNS relapse was 1.64% for patients who received HID-HSCT and 2.55% for those who received ISD-HSCT (p =.193). There was no significant difference in OS between the HID-HSCT and ISD-HSCT subgroups among the patients with CNS relapse. In conclusion, CNS relapse is a rare but serious complication after allo-HSCT for AML, and the incidence and outcomes of patients with CNS relapse are comparable following HID-HSCT and ISD-HSCT. Background: Accumulating study indicated that microRNA (miRNA) played critical role in the osteosarcoma (OS). The role and mechanisms of miR-193b in OS cell lines were still unknown. Objective: We resolved the miR-193b expression in OS cell line and normal cell by RT-PCR assay. The effects of upregulated miR-193b on OS cell proliferation, migration, invasion and apoptosis were evaluated using CCK-8 assay, transwell assay, would-healing assay and flow cytometric analysis in vitro, respectively. We investigated the effect of upregulated miR-193b on the mRNA level of cell cycle protein CCND1 and CCNE1 using RT-PCR assay and the protein level of epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT)-related protein E-cadherin, vimentin, and N-cadherin by western blotting assay in MG-63 and U2SO cells. Furthermore, luciferase reporter assays were employed to identify the candidate target gene RAB7A of miR-193b. Results: The expression of miR-193b was downregulated in OS cells. In MG-63 and U2SO cells, ectopic miR-193b expression inhibited cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and induced apoptosis. We found that miR-193b reduced the mRNA expression of CCND1 and CCNE1, and regulated the associated proteins of EMT including E-cadherin, vimentin and N-cadherin in MG-63and U2SO cell lines. Moreover, the candidate target gene RAB7A was negatively regulated by miR-193b. In addition, upregulated RAB7A rescued the inhibitory effect of miR-193b mimics on the development of OS cell. Conclusion: In conclusion, this study suggested that miR-193b overexpression inhibited cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and induced cell apoptosis by down-regulating RAB7A in OS cell lines. The development of wireless technologies and the popularity of mobile devices is responsible for generating large amounts of trajectory data for moving objects. Trajectory datasets have spatiotemporal features and are a rich information source. The mining of trajectory data can reveal interesting patterns of human activities and behaviors. However, trajectory data can also be exploited to disclose users' privacy information, e.g., the places they live and work, which could be abused by a malicious user. Therefore, it is very important to protect the users' privacy before publishing any trajectory data. While most previous research on this subject has only considered the privacy protection of stay points, this paper distinguishes itself by modeling and processing semantic trajectories, which not only contain spatiotemporal data but also involve POI information and the users' motion modes such as walking, running, driving, etc. Accordingly, in this research, semantic trajectory anonymizing based on the k-anonymity model is proposed that can form sensitive areas that contain k − 1 POI points that are similar to the sensitive points. Then, trajectory ambiguity is executed based on the motion modes, road network topologies and road weights in the sensitive area. Finally, a similarity comparison is performed to obtain the recordable and releasable anonymity trajectory sets. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) can cause end-organ diseases including pneumonia, gastroenteritis, retinitis, and encephalitis in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation recipients. Potential differences among different CMV diseases remain uncertain. This study aimed to compare the clinical characteristics, risk factors, and mortality among different CMV diseases. A retrospective nested case-control study was performed based on a cohort of 3862 patients who underwent haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation at a single-center. CMV diseases occurred in 113 (2.92%) of 3862 haplo-HSCT recipients, including probable CMV pneumonia (CMVP, n = 34), proven CMV gastroenteritis (CMVG, n = 34), CMV retinitis (CMVR, n = 31), probable CMV encephalitis (CMVE, n = 7), and disseminated CMV disease (Di-CMVD, n = 7). Most (91.2%) cases of CMVG developed within 100 days, while most (90.3%) cases of CMVR were late onset. Refractory CMV infection and CMV viral load at different levels were associated with an increased risk of CMVP, CMVG, and CMVR. Compared with patients without CMV diseases, significantly higher non-relapse mortality at 1 year after transplantation was observed in patients with CMVP and CMVR, rather than CMVG. Patients with CMVP, Di-CMVD, and CMVE had higher overall mortality after diagnosis than that of patients with CMVG and CMVR (61.7%, 57.1%, 40.0% vs 27.7%, 18.6%, P = 0.001). In conclusion, the onset time, viral dynamics, and mortality differ among different CMV diseases. The mortality of CMV diseases remains high, especially for CMVP, Di-CMVD, and CMVE. To explore the incidence, risk factors, and outcomes of central nervous system (CNS) relapse after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) for acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and to compare the differences in CNS relapse between haploidentical donor HSCT (HID-HSCT) and HLA-identical sibling donor HSCT (ISD-HSCT). We performed a retrospective nested case-control study on patients with CNS relapse after allo-HSCT. The cumulative incidence of CNS relapse was 4.06% after allo-HSCT in ALL, with a significantly poor prognosis. The incidence was 3.91% and 5.36% in HID-HSCT and ISD-HSCT, respectively (p = .227). Among the patients with CNS relapse, the overall survival (OS) at 3 years was 56.2 ± 6.8% in the HID-HSCT subgroup and 76.9 ± 10.2% in the ISD-HSCT subgroup (p = .176). The 3-year cumulative incidence of systemic relapse was also comparable between the two subgroups (HID-HSCT, 40.6 ± 7.4%; ISD-HSCT, 13.3 ± 8.7%, respectively, p = .085). Younger age (p = .045), T-ALL (p = .035), hyperleukocytosis at diagnosis (p < .001), advanced disease stage at transplant (p < .001), pre-HSCT CNS involvement (p < .001), and absence of chronic graft vs host disease (cGVHD) (p < .001) were independent risk factors for CNS relapse after allo-HSCT. Since December 2019, an epidemic caused by novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) infection has occurred unexpectedly in China. As of 8 pm, 31 January 2020, more than 20 pediatric cases have been reported in China. La–Ti codoped BiFeO3 (BLXFTO, X = 0, 0.025, 0.05, 0.075) thin films have been prepared successfully on ITO/glass substrates by a sol–gel method. The effects of multi-element co-doping on the structure and electrical properties of BFO thin film were studied. It is proved that a certain amount of doping content can promote the development of (110) orientation. All the films show well-saturated P–E hysteresis loop, simultaneously with high-rectangular. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), the key enzymes in extracellular matrix degradation, seemed to increase in tumorigenesis, which has a relationship with metastasis and invasions. In this study, we investigated the MMP inhibitory effect of viridicatol and viridicatin, two compounds extracted from shark-gill-derived fungus Penicilliumpolonicum AP2T1, on MMP-2 and -9 in vitro and in silico. The MTT assay showed that viridicatol and viridicatin had no cytotoxicity at a concentration of 50 µM on HT1080 human fibrosarcoma cells. In addition, the studies by gelatin zymography and Western blot analysis confirmed that the two compounds effectively inhibited the protein activities and expressions of MMP-2 and -9. Moreover, molecular docking studies simulated and clarified the interaction between compounds and MMPs, respectively. Furthermore, the effect of those two compounds on mitogen activated protein kinases (MAPKs) was also assessed by Western blot analysis. Collectively, these results suggested that viridicatol and viridicatin could be potential inhibitors of MMPs and P.polonicum may be a rich source of bioactive compounds with MMP inhibitory property. Marine microalgae have been widely applied in cosmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, and functional foods. In the present study, we first investigated the hepatoprotective effects of peptide purified from microalgae, Isochrysis zhanjiangensis on HepG2 cells alcoholic injury. I. zhanjiangensis was hydrolyzed utilizing chymotrypsin, trypsin, pepsin, and by vitro gastrointestinal digestion. Among hydrolysates, the gastrointestinal hydrolysate showed relatively high free radical scavenging ability preliminarily and was purified with following sequential chromatography methods. The amino acid sequence and molecular mass of the purified peptide from I. zhanjiangensis (PIZ) was identified as Asn-Asp-Ala-Glu-Tyr-Gly-Ile-Cys-Gly-Phe (NDAEYGICGF; MW, 1088.16 Da) via Q-TOF ESI/MS. Additionally, PIZ attenuated ethanol-induced cytotoxicity and inhibited the production of intracellular reactive oxygen species by DCFH-DA assay. Western blot results showed that superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione (GSH) levels up-regulated with PIZ treatment before alcohol exposure while gamma-glutamyltransferase (GGT) protein expression down-regulated. Enhanced green and red upconversion emissions under 980 nm excitation are observed in Ba0.85−xCa0.15TiO3:0.75%Er3+/xIn3+ lead-free ferroelectric ceramics which were synthesized by solid state reaction method. With increasing In3+ ions doping level from x = 0% mol the green and red emission intensities increase and reach the maximum at x = 1.75% mol. The maximum intensity of green emission at 550 nm is 20 times larger than In3+ ions undoped samples, which is unprecedented for Er3+-doped perovskite ferroelectric materials. Based on the ultraviolet-visible-near infrared absorption spectra, the enhancement of the luminescence intensity of the A-site In3+ doped Ba0.85−xCa0.15TiO3:0.75%Er/xIn ceramics is attributed to In3+-doping-induced relative increase in isolate Er3+ and decrease in the clustered-Er3+. A series of erbium- and indium-doped 0.965K0.40Na0.58Li0.02Nb0.96Sb0.04O3-0.035Bi0.5K0.5ZrO3:0.25%Er/xIn lead-free piezoelectric ceramics with upconversion photoluminescence (UCPL) properties were prepared by the conventional solid state reaction. A systematical investigation into the effects of In3+ doping on the structural, dielectric, ferroelectric, piezoelectric, and UCPL properties of the ceramics was carried out. The distribution of Er3+-sites could be modified by In3+ doping according to the analysis of UV-Vis-NIR absorption cross-section, resulting in improved piezoelectric and photoluminescence properties of the ceramics. The optimized comprehensive properties are performed by the x = 0.25% samples of which the piezoelectric coefficient d33 ~ 257 pC/N, Curie temperature TC ~ 273 °C, remanent polarization Pr ~ 12.5 µC/cm2, dielectric constant εr ~ 1551, and d33 ~ 257 pC/N which is the supreme piezoelectric coefficient achieved in KNN-based UCPL ceramics as of now. Tumor necrosis factor-a-induced protein 8-like 2 (TIPE2) is a novel negative regulator for maintaining immune homeostasis. This study aimed to investigate TIPE2 mRNA in peripheral blood mononuclear cells for predicting 3-month functional outcomes and mortality of patients with acute ischemic stroke. A total of 182 consecutive patients were prospective collected, and there were 55 (30.2%) patients with unfavorable outcome and 33 (18.1%) patients died at the end of 3 months. The area under the operating characteristic curve (AUC) for TIPE2 mRNA was 0.810 (95% CI 0.733-0.886) for mortality and 0.740 (95% CI 0.662-0.818) for unfavorable outcome. The model incorporating National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) plus TIPE2 showed significantly (P = 0.04) increased discrimination power (AUC = 0.925, 95% CI 0.874-0.976) for mortality than NIHSS (AUC = 0.882, 95% CI 0.833-0.932). Furthermore, NIHSS plus TIPE2 showed a significant improvement of both integrated discrimination index (IDI) and net reclassification index (NRI) as compared with NIHSS (IDI = 0.224, 95% CI 0.150-0.299, P < 0.001; NRI = 1.119, 95% CI 0.810-1.429, P < 0.001). The pruned time-dependent tree analysis showed that patients with NIHSS ≥ 5.5 and TIPE2 mRNA < 5.2 had rather high 3-month mortality. Background: To investigate the clinical features of necrotizing pneumonia (NP) caused by refractory Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (RMPP).Methods: A retrospective observational study was carried out in patients with NP caused by RMPP who were admitted to our hospital from January 2008 to December 2015, and the clinical manifestations, laboratory data, imaging performances, hospital courses and outcomes were analyzed.Results: Twenty-five patients with NP caused by RMPP were collected, with a median age of 5.1 (4.0-7.9) years. The mean duration of fever and hospital stay was 21.0 ± 8.9 and 19.9 ± 9.9 days, respectively. The levels of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), C-reactive protein, interleukin (IL)-6, IL-10 and interferon-gamma were elevated. Meanwhile, the pleural fluid cell count, LDH and protein were also increased. 80.0% of the patients had pleural effusion; and a high incidence of lobar atelectasis and pulmonary consolidation was found the patients. The mean duration from the onset of symptoms to the discovery of necrotic lesions was 21.0 ± 6.9 days. 80.0% of the patients were administrated corticosteroids, and bronchoalveolar lavage was extracted separately from all patients. Of the 20 patients who presented with pleural effusion, 11 underwent thoracocentesis alone and 2 underwent chest drainage. All patients received prolonged courses of antibiotics (32.2 ± 8.7 days). All patients were dischaged home and recovered without surgical intervention; and chest lesions were resolved or only minimal residual fibrotic changes were residual within 3.0 (2.0-6.0) months.Conclusions: Necrotizing pneumonia caused by RMPP is severe, however, self-limiting and reversible. Haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplant (haplo-HSCT) is an upfront and effective therapy for hematology patients, but it usually has many complications, such as neurological complications. As one of the neurological complications following haplo-HSCT, immune-mediated demyelinating diseases of the central nervous system (CNS) seriously affect a patient's quality of life. However, the incidence, risk factors, and pathogenesis of CNS demyelination are not very well understood. Thirty of the 1526 patients (1.96%) suffered from CNS demyelination. In univariate analysis, we found that blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability and the CSF IgG synthesis index (IgG-Syn) were related to the occurrence of CNS demyelination (p < 0.05). In a multivariate analysis, the IgG-Syn (OR = 1.017, 95% CI 1.003-1.031, p = 0.019) and CSF anti-myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody (MOG.Ab) (OR = 12.059, 95% CI 1.141-127.458, p = 0.038) were independently associated with the onset of CNS demyelination. We also studied the possible pathogenesis of CNS demyelination. Immune reconstitution (the cell proportions of CD19+ B cells, CD3+ T cells, and CD4+ T cells); the counts of leucocytes, lymphocytes, monocytes, and platelets; and the levels of immunoglobulins A, G, and M 30, 60, and 90 days after HSCT showed no significant differences between CNS demyelination and no demyelination (p > 0.05). The probabilities of overall survival showed no significant differences between patients with and without demyelination (p > 0.05). Only four deaths in 30 patients, but bringing projected survival to less than 20%.We imply that IgG-Syn and CSF MOG. Ab may be associated with the onset of CNS demyelination during 2 weeks of neurological symptoms in patients with brain or spinal cord MRI abnormality. A series of In3+-doped Ba0.85Ca0.15TiO3:0.75%Er3+/xIn3+ (BCT:Er/xIn) lead-free piezoelectric ceramics with excellent upconversion luminescence were synthesized by the solid state reaction method. The effects of In3+ content on the crystal structure, ferroelectric, dielectric, piezoelectric, and upconversion luminescence properties were systematically studied. Under 980 nm excitation, a giant enhancement of the green emission (550 nm) by 10 times is achieved upon 2.5% mol In3+ doping, which is rarely observed in rare-earth ions-doped perovskite ferroelectric materials. The ultraviolet-visible-near infrared absorption measurements show that the In3+ doping may improve the dissolution of Er3+ ions and modify the isolate-/clustered-Er3+ ratio for x ≤ 2.5%, resulting in the enhancement of the absorption cross-section, thereby contributing to the enhancement of green luminescence. Unfortunately, the In3+ doping suppresses the ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties of the BCT:Er/xIn ceramics. This problem can be resolved by adding a small amount (1 mol%) of Yb3+ to the BCT:Er/xIn ceramics to restore their good ferroelectric and piezoelectric properties. Such In3+ and rare-earth ions co-doped ceramics with greatly enhanced upconversion luminescence and good ferroelectricity and piezoelectricity may have potential applications in electro-optical devices. Publications by Chinese researchers in scientific journals have dramatically increased over the past decade; however, academic misconduct also becomes more prevalent in the country. The aim of this prospective study was to understand the perceptions of Chinese biomedical researchers towards academic misconduct and the trend from 2010 to 2015. A questionnaire comprising 10 questions was designed and then validated by ten biomedical researchers in China. In the years 2010 and 2015, respectively, the questionnaire was sent as a survey to biomedical researchers at teaching hospitals, universities, and medical institutes in mainland China. Data were analyzed by the Chi squared test, one-way analysis of variance with the Tukey post hoc test, or Spearman’s rank correlation method, where appropriate. The overall response rates in 2010 and 2015 were 4.5% (446/9986) and 5.5% (832/15,127), respectively. Data from 15 participants in 2010 were invalid, and analysis was thus performed for 1263 participants. Among the participants, 54.7% thought that academic misconduct was serious-to-extremely serious, and 71.2% believed that the Chinese authorities paid no or little attention to the academic misconduct. Moreover, 70.2 and 65.2% of participants considered that the punishment for academic misconduct at the authority and institution levels, respectively, was not appropriate or severe enough. Inappropriate authorship and plagiarism were the most common forms of academic misconduct. The most important factor underlying academic misconduct was the academic assessment system, as judged by 50.7% of the participants. Participants estimated that 40.1% (39.8 ± 23.5% in 2010; 40.2 ± 24.5% in 2015) of published scientific articles were associated with some form of academic misconduct. Their perceptions towards academic misconduct had not significantly changed over the 5 years. Key message: We defined a comprehensive core ABA signaling network in monocot maize, including the gene expression, subcellular localization and interaction network of ZmPYLs, ZmPP2Cs, ZmSnRK2s and the putative substrates.Abstract: The phytohormone abscisic acid (ABA) plays an important role in plant developmental processes and abiotic stress responses. In Arabidopsis, ABA is sensed by the PYL ABA receptors, which leads to binding of the PP2C protein phosphatase and activation of the SnRK2 protein kinases. These components functioning diversely and redundantly in ABA signaling are little known in maize. Using Arabidopsis pyl112458 and snrk2.2/3/6 mutants, we identified several ABA-responsive ZmPYLs and ZmSnRK2s, and also ZmPP2Cs. We showed the gene expression, subcellular localization and interaction network of ZmPYLs, ZmPP2Cs, and ZmSnRK2s, and the isolation of putative ZmSnRK2 substrates by mass spectrometry in monocot maize. We found that the ABA dependency of PYL-PP2C interactions is contingent on the identity of the PP2Cs. Among 238 candidate substrates for ABA-activated protein kinases, 69 are putative ZmSnRK2 substrates. Besides homologs of previously reported putative AtSnRK2 substrates, 23 phosphoproteins have not been discovered in the dicot Arabidopsis. Remanufacturer's recycle strategy is studied in this paper, taking into account capital constraint and differentiated demand. Three recycle models are considered, i.e. remanufacturer's recycle from market, authorized retailers' recycle from market, and authorized third-party recyclers' recycle from market. Decision models with loan strategy and without loan strategy are respectively constructed for each recycle model. For each decision model, decision variants including wholesale price, retail price, recycle rate, optimum profit etc. are analyzed; conditions under which remanufacturers adopt loan strategy are proposed; supply chain members' profit change when loan is available is analyzed. In the end, remanufacturer's recycle model selection strategy, as well as government's concessional loan strategy that encourages remanufacturers to recycle more, are put forward. The research has the following findings: (1) Other than waste's processing cost, recycling cost and consumer preference, the amount of remanufacturer's self-owned capital and loan rate are key factors that influence remanufacturer's loan decision; (2) compared to non-loan strategy, profit of remanufacturer and third-party recycler increases when loan strategy is adopted by remanufacturer, but it is uncertain for retailer's profit; (3) When loan strategy is adopted, profit of each supply chain member decreases when loan rate increases, no matter which recycle model is adopted; therefore government should decrease loan rate to encourage remanufacturer to recycle more and adopt loan strategy; (4) remanufacturer's choice of recycle model depends on the cost comparison of self-owned recycle and outsourced recycle, whether loan strategy is adopted or not. KTaNbO and Cu doped KTaNbO single crystals were grown by the Czochralski method. The phase, optical and electric properties were characterized. The differences of XRD and color for KTaNbO and Cu doped KTaNbO single crystals are observed. Emission bands corresponding to Cu and Cu except of emission bands originating from KTaNbO host were observed in the emission spectra of the KTaNbO:Cu single crystals. On the basis of these differences, we speculate the dominating existence of Cu and residual existence of Cu in KTaNbO single crystal. The existence of Cu in KTaNbO single crystal influences the optical and dielectric properties of crystal. The higher dielectric constant of Cu doped KTaNbO single crystal than that of pure KTaNbO single crystal is induced by the decrease of the resistance of the grain. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, a three-dimensional chitosan-gelatin/nanohydroxyapatite (ChG/nHaP) scaffold was successfully fabricated and characterized in terms of swelling, degradation, cell proliferation, cell attachment, and mineralization characterizations. The ChG/nHaP scaffold was fabricated with a mean pore size of 100-180 μm. Our results showed that the physicochemical and biological properties of the scaffolds were affected by the presence of HaP. The swelling and degradation characteristics of the ChG scaffold were remarkably decreased by the addition of HaP. On the other hand, the presence of HaP remarkably improved the MC3T3-E1 cell attachment and cell growth in the scaffold membrane. The biocompatible nature of the ChG/nHaP scaffold leads to the development of finely scaled mineral deposits on the scaffold membrane. Thus, HaP played an important role in improving the biological performance of the scaffold. Intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) is one of the most life-threatening neurological complications after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Although cerebral complications and its causes after allo-HSCT are well documented, assessment of the incidence and risk factors of intracranial hemorrhage following allo-HSCT are less discussed. A nested case-control study was conducted involving 160 subjects drawn from 2169 subjects who underwent HSCT at Peking University People's Hospital between 2004 and 2014. Thirty-two patients (1.5 %) with ICH were identified, and 128 controls were matched for age, gender, transplantation type, and time of transplantation. Intracranial hemorrhage was identified by CT scan and/or MRI by searching hospital records. Among the 32 ICH patients, 27 (82.9 %) developed intraparenchymal hemorrhages (IPH), 2 cases (5.7 %) suffered subdural hematomas (SDH), and 3 cases (8.6 %) had multiple hemorrhage lesions in the brain parenchyma. The median time of appearance for cerebral hemorrhages was 147.5 days. Multivariate analysis showed that systemic infections (hazard ratio 2.882, 95 % confidence interval 1.231-6.746), platelet count (5.894, 1.145-30.339), and fibrinogen levels (3.611, 1.528-8.532) were independent risk factors for intracranial hemorrhage among HSCT patients. The cumulative survival rate in the intracranial hemorrhage and control groups were 43.3 and 74.7 % (P = .001), respectively. Intracranial hemorrhage is associated with high mortality and a decreased overall survival rate. Systemic infections, platelet count, and fibrinogen levels were individual independent risk factors. Temperature change of liquid stratification for LNG tank is more complex; therefore, it is necessary to carry out temperature field analysis of liquid stratification for LNG tank, and the orthogonal ridgelet finite element method is constructed by combining the traditional finite element method and orthogonal ridgelet transformation. Firstly, the basic characteristics of orthogonal ridgelet transform are studied. Secondly, the theory models of liquid stratification of LNG tank are studied. Thirdly, the temperature field analysis model of liquid stratification orthogonal ridgelet finite element for LNG tank is constructed. Finally, the temperature field analysis of liquid stratification of LNG tank is carried out, and the temperature changing rules of liquid stratification for LNG tank are obtained based on the traditional finite element method, B-spline wavelet finite element method, orthogonal ridgelet finite element method, and field test, and comparison of results shows that the orthogonal ridgelet finite element method has highest computing precision and efficiency. Ethylacetate extract of Tetrastigma hemsleyanum (EET) has a potent antitumor activity in vitro and in vivo. However, the molecular mechanism underlying EET-induced apoptosis remains elusive. As part of our continuing studies, we investigated the apoptosis mechanism of HepG cells exposed to different concentrations of EET in vitro. Confocal laser scanning was used to detect the apoptotic morphological changes. Flow cytometer and inverted fluorescence microscope were used to detect the mitochondrial membrane potential and cytosolic Ca level. Western blotting analysis was used to evaluate the expression of the apoptosis-related proteins. Annexin V/PI staining was used to investigate cell apoptosis. Spectrophotometry was used to detect the activity of caspase family. The results showed that distinct apoptotic morphological changes occurred in HepG cells treated by EET. EET caused collapse of mitochondrial membrane potential, elevation of cytosolic Ca level, and evoked release of cytochrome c from mitochondria in a concentration-dependent manner. The apoptosis was accompanied by a significant activation of caspase-3, caspase-9, and the cleavage of poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase, but there was no significant change in either the activity or the expression level of caspase-8. Furthermore, EET-induced apoptosis could be inhibited by caspase-9 inhibitor Z-LEHD-FMK but not by caspase-8 inhibitor Z-IETD-FMK. Taken together, these overall results demonstrated that EET-induced apoptosis of HepG cells was mediated by the mitochondrial caspase-dependent intrinsic pathway rather than the death receptor/caspase-8-mediated signaling route. Robo1 is a member of the Robo immunoglobulin superfamily of proteins, and it plays an important role in angiogenesis and cancer. In this study, we investigate the role of roundabout 1 (Robo1) in tumor angiogenesis in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Firstly, the relationship between Robo1 expression on tumors and patient's survival and endothelial cells in tumor blood vessels and patient's survival was studied. Secondly, Robo1 was overexpressed or knocked down in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). Cell proliferation, motility, and tube formation were compared in HUVEC with different Robo1 expression. Also, HUVECs with different Robo1 expression were mixed with HCCLM3 and HepG2 hepatoma cells and then implanted in a nude mouse model to examine the effects of Robo1 in endothelial cells on tumor growth and angiogenesis. Cell motility-related molecules were studied to investigate the potential mechanism how Robo1 promoted tumor angiogenesis in HCC. The disease-free survival of the patients with high Robo1 expression in tumoral endothelial cells was significantly shorter than that of those with low expression ( P = 0.021). Overexpression of Robo1 in HUVECs resulted in increased proliferation, motility, and tube formation in vitro. In the implanted mixture of tumor cells and HUVECs with an increased Robo1 expression, tumor growth and microvessel density were enhanced compared with controls. Robo1 promoted cell division cycle 42 (Cdc42) expression in HUVECs, and a distorted actin cytoskeleton in HUVECs was observed when Robo1 expression was suppressed. Sucrose and molasses are attractive raw materials for industrial fermentation. Although Corynebacterium glutamicum shows sucrose-utilizing activity, sucrose or molasses is only a fraction of carbon source used in the fermentation medium in most works. An engineered C. glutamicum strain was constructed for producing L-ornithine with sucrose or molasses as a sole carbon source by transferring Mannheimia succiniciproducens β-fructofuranosidase gene ( sacC). The engineered strain, C. glutamicum ΔAPE6937R42 (pEC-sacC), produced 22.0 g/L of L-ornithine with sucrose as the sole carbon source, which is on par with that obtained by the parent strain C. glutamicum ΔAPE6937R42 with glucose as the sole carbon. The resulting strain C. glutamicum ΔAPE6937R42 (pEC-sacC) produced 27.0 g/L of L-ornithine with molasses as the sole carbon source, which is higher than that obtained by the parent strain C. glutamicum ΔAPE6937R42 with glucose as the sole carbon.
