Education is a fundamental tool to make a country's society equitable, just, and respectful of the environment. As primary education is compulsory for a country's population, it allows building knowledge and skills to promote sustainable development, in this sense, it is necessary to examine whether the primary education curricular bases offer learning opportunities and contexts for students at this stage to develop their awareness, knowledge and skills in a sustainable way. The qualitative methodology was used, specifically, the content analysis to analyze the 24 Chilean primary programs of Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences under the cognitive domain of "Education for sustainable development" (ESD) and in terms of their learning objectives with the sustainability development goals (SDGs). The results show that an interdisciplinary stochastic education in the context of the curricular learning of Social Sciences and Natural Sciences provides learning opportunities to develop ESD at the different levels that make up primary education. It is observed that the Natural Sciences and Social Sciences curricula at all levels of primary education lead to ESD are being developed in an interdisciplinary manner (with these two subjects and stochastic themes).

Computational thinking in the educational environment has awaken a rising interest, having been included as part of the curricula from the very beginnings of education. Programmable robots have become a valuable positive resource in order to succeed in the development of computational thinking, demanding proper training from kindergarten teachers and trainees in order to be able to teach robotic programming. This article has the purpose to 1) identify the frequent errors made by trainee kindergarten teachers when solving a series of robotic problems in a computational thinking module, which develops in the course of Didactics of Mathematics; and 2) determine the level of comprehension of the robot concept acquired by the trainees when solving robotics problems. The research developed in a qualitative methodology manner; the data used for this article were collected through the solving of five robotic problems and an open-ended question that had to be answered by each of the 25 participants individually. The results showed that, in general, the most frequent error appeared in problems in which movements were set in a Euclidean space of two dimensions. That is to say, the problems' solving required a selection of different commands: turn, moving forward and/or backwards. Moreover, more than half of the participants who answered the open-ended question succeeded in owning the robot concept once they had solved the problems.

This study aims to analyse the approaches to probability that were carried out by the participants of the teaching practice of Primary Education teachers and, more specifically, their teaching trajectories. To do this we analysed 23 video-recorded classes of all levels, using a previously validated instrument. Results show trajectories characterised by a strong presence of intuitive approach at initial levels, in conjunction with a much lower presence of frequency approach and an absence of other approaches. As the level increases, the presence of intuitive approach decreases, being replaced by subjective, frequency and classical ones, with the latter two having the greatest presence in the upper levels. We conclude that results will be useful for strengthening the professional development of Primary Education teachers in relation to the teaching of probability.

We consider the ability to complete an investigative cycle as an indicator of the robustness of students' statistical knowledge. From this standpoint, we analyzed the written reports of primary education student teachers when they developed an investigative cycle in a Chilean and a Spanish university. In their development of the stages of the cycle we observed characteristics common to the centers (for example, summary research questions and conclusions that are a simple concatenation of results), and differential features (the data collection tools and techniques, among others). Armed with a knowledge of how future teachers approach and understand an investigative cycle we are able to contribute ideas that influence their training, building bridges between what they learn and what they should teach.

We explore the effect of the design of intentional teaching sequences from the concrete to the abstract in order to promote the teaching of statistics in connection with sustainability. To this end, the pre-validated questionnaires "MTSK-Stochastic Statistics" and "ESD in Statistics Activities" are administered to in-service primary education teachers. Both tools contain the same statistics teaching itinerary, based on the mathematics teaching itineraries approach, that includes five tasks: a real situation, a manipulative, a game, a technological resource, and a graphic resource. Each task includes an overview, objectives, content, required materials, development, and development questions; in addition, the second questionnaire includes connections to sustainability. The results show that tasks with real contexts, manipulative resources, and technological resources are the ones with the lowest scores. These initial findings lead us to conclude that teachers mobilize their knowledge to teach statistics as it relates to sustainability in different ways, depending on the type of task. If we are to understand and address today's social, environmental and economic crises through education, we must introduce education for sustainable development (ESD) into classrooms and approach it from an integrated perspective. In so doing, this study aims to provide an overview of the current status of the still-emerging research agenda on the integration of ESD into mathematical education and statistical education. To this end, we conducted a systematic review of Scopus and Web of Science databases of theoretical and research articles published between 2010 and May 2023. In total, 32 studies were identified, conducted mostly in Europe, followed by South America, which mainly address teacher training. The results suggest that mathematics education and statistics education are an effective means of providing education focused on ESD, but that teachers still have limited knowledge and resistant attitudes. Therefore, initial and ongoing training must move towards characterizing proposals that provide examples and involve teachers in response to this challenge. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We examined the presence of mathematical processes in textbooks for preschool education in Chile and Spain. For this purpose, a content analysis of the mathematical tasks of: numbers, geometry, measurement, algebra, statistics and probability has been carried out. The results show a predominance of problem solving and representation processes. The mathematical processes less present are: communication and reasoning and proof. On the other hand, the transcendental role of the teacher's didactic guide is observed in offering suggestions for the management of tasks aimed at offering learning opportunities linked to mathematical processes. This study conducted a systematic review following the guidelines of the PRISMA statement, with the aim of analyzing the scientific production on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in in-service and pre-service mathematics teachers. Out of 211 articles identified in the indexed databases, WOS, SCOPUS, and SciELO, 16 were selected for an exhaustive analysis. It was determined that this topic is still in the process of development, focusing on aspects such as learning content, pedagogy, and the learning environment. Most studies employed qualitative methodologies. Contextualization in sustainability is the most advanced competency. The results highlight the importance of continuing to investigate and develop effective strategies to integrate ESD in the continuous education and training of mathematics teachers. It is essential to address the development of competencies in ecological and mediational facets, ensure solid knowledge of mathematical content, employ adequate pedagogical strategies, and understand the relationship between the environment and mathematics. These findings offer insights into the prevailing trend of integrating ESD into mathematics education through ESD elements and didactic competencies, as evidenced by recent studies involving both practicing and pre-service teachers. The Initial Teacher Training of students of pedagogy in Basic Education in Chile, plays a fundamental role in the development of knowledge and skills of future generations of students who enter the school system each year; This is why the disciplinary and pedagogical training that future teachers receive in the different training institutions is a country problem. From the information provided by the Chilean Ministry of Education, about 1,800 future teachers who took the National Assessment and through an inferential design, it is revealed that the assessment is viewed from two poles: pedagogical and disciplinary, with no correlation between them. On the other hand, there are statistically significant differences between students belonging to institutions of the Council of Rectors of Chilean Universities (CRUCH) and Private, despite the fact that some private institutions have strengthened the entry requirements for their careers. Years of accreditation of less than 5 years are not a factor that affects the average results of students from CRUCH and Private institutions. In this regard, only eight institutions have six or more years of accreditation. That is, there is a low percentage of careers that could be said to provide quality training, however private institutions have a greater number of practices that tend to bring their students closer to the school system, differences that are statistically significant. This article presents the results of a study aimed at examining how primary school teachers' attitudes towards probability and its teaching are influenced by their use of an interactive story focused on sparking interest in probability and providing opportunities for learning this mathematical topic. A scale of attitudes towards probability and its teaching was applied to 40 prospective primary school teachers, before and after reading the book. This instrument was implemented with two focus groups. Preliminary results revealed significant changes in pre-service teachers' attitudes, particularly in their feelings towards probability. Psycholinguistics began its development as an independent science in Colombia in 1970. This beginning was characterized by the study of language acquisition from a qualitative perspective, while empirical study was relegated. This documentary review aims to observe the current panorama of empirical psycholinguistic studies in Colombia. Methodology consisted of a search and analysis of 51 scientific articles published in databases between 2013 and 2020. Results showed studies on the topics of language acquisition, difficulties in language acquisition and learning, reading, difficulties in reading and writing acquisition. More publications were found in two cities: Bogotá and Medellín, in three universities: Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Universidad de Antioquia y Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. 82% of the articles analyzed possible causes and effects, 10% carried out interventions, and 8% validated tests. The most widely used tests were the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-IV) (Wechsler, 2005), (35%), and Neuropsychological Assessment of Infants (Matute et al., 2007), (32%). In conclusion, psycholinguistic research in Colombia shows significant advances in recent years. Currently there is greater openness to research topics with empirical methodology. One of the problems in teacher training is possessing mechanisms that allow us to work with teachers who seek to improve their practice and professional knowledge. As a result of research and experience, a model of programs for professional development of mathematics teachers is presented in light of the characterization of effective programs. The model is operationalized in a training program observing its effectiveness characteristics, showing the main elements that constitute it and observing coherence and complementarity between the model and its implementation. Curricula are usually pointed out as one of the factors that delimit teacher's knowledge. In this context, this study analyzes the requirements for teacher's knowledge that can be found in the curricular guidelines of Mathematics Education in the three Latin American countries belonging to the OECD to educate in sustainability. For this, a content analysis has been carried out that examines the meaning given to the teaching and learning of mathematics that would allow the development of key sustainability competences. The results show a teaching-learning process of mathematics that is not very aligned with education for sustainable development, with a low presence of key competences for sustainability. These results represent a roadmap, both for teacher training institutions and for providing a new educational approach that allows Mathematical Education to contribute to educating in sustainability in Primary Education. This new approach should promote students' understanding of the different problems (social, economic, and environmental) that we are faced with, as well as the measures that must be adopted to transform and act towards a more sustainable world. Saccharomyces cerevisiae is a model eukaryotic organism for classical genetics and genomics, and yet its ecology is still largely unknown. In this work, a population genetic analysis was performed on five yeast populations isolated from wine-making areas with different enological practices using simple sequence repeats and restriction fragment length polymorphism of mitochondrial DNA as molecular markers on 292 strains. In accordance with other studies, genome size estimation suggests that native S. cerevisiae strains are mainly homothallic and diploids. Analysis of mtDNA data showed that yeast populations from nonindustrial areas have 40% higher genetic diversity than populations isolated from industrial areas, demonstrating that industrial enological practices are likely to affect native yeast populations negatively by reducing its biodiversity. On the other hand, genetic differentiation analysis based on their microsatellite showed no correlation between genetic and geographic distance and a nonsignificant value when a Mantel test was applied. Finally, in the five populations studied, positive inbreeding ( Fis) values from 0.4 to 0.75, a low but significant level of linkage disequilibrium and a high number of multilocus genotypes were detected. These results strongly advocate that sexual reproduction is frequent enough to erase clonal signature in natural populations and that self-fertilization is the main mating system. This study relies on a theoretical perspective to provide a model that can be used to observe the educational practice of mathematics teachers. To this end, various existing observation instruments are studied, which, in the case of mathematics, aim to observe the teaching practice employed in the classroom, without considering the before and after of the implementation, which is what characterizes the professional task of teaching. Indicators that emerge from the teaching practice are proposed, together with the teacher's knowledge and reflection constructs, based on three phases: for, in, and on the educational practice. As a result, understanding the educational practice of mathematics teachers would allow various educational stakeholders (teachers, administrators, instructors of teachers, and others) to focus their attention on what elements develop so as to improve how students are taught, and consequently learn, mathematics. Learning about the conceptions used by primary school teachers towards the use of robotics in class is essential as the first step towards its application in the classroom. Therefore, with the purpose of describing the understanding applied when teaching and learning mathematics use educational robots, research was conducted by means of mixed methods using a descriptive design by survey. Such research consisted of closed questions (Likert-type scale from 1 to 5) and open questions, given to 83 primary school teachers who currently teach students in the first years of school (First to Fourth grade) in two Chilean districts. The results showed that in general, there is a positive predisposition towards the addition of robots in the learning and teaching of mathematic processes during the first years of school, even though teachers claim there is a struggle to incorporate robots in their lessons due to the high number of students and the reduced space in their classrooms. This study analyses probability tasks proposed by primary education teachers to promote probabilistic literacy. To this end, eight class sessions at various levels of the Chilean educational system were recorded on video and analysed through the "probability tasks" dimension from the "Observation Instrument for Probability Classes" (IOC-PROB), which includes five components: use of resources, probabilistic contexts, cognitive challenge, procedures and strategies, and probability meanings. The results show that probability tasks focus mainly on technical knowledge, causing the probability class to become an arithmetic class in which only formulas are applied, mechanically and with no meaning. As a result, we see no use of technological resources, a low use of physical materials, and an absolute predominance of solving decontextualised exercises. We conclude that it is necessary to enhance the probability teaching practices based on lesson plans that consider a wide variety of resources and contexts to gradually advance towards a representation of probabilistic knowledge that relies on conventional procedures and notations. Based on the Stochastic Education Approach to Sustainability Education, the statistical and probability tasks for sustainability education in a collection of primary school mathematics textbooks in Chile (6–14 years old) were analyzed. A content analysis was carried out based on four categories: contexts for sustainability, levels of articulation, cognitive demand, and authenticity. The results show that: (1) there is a low presence of contexts for sustainability; (2) the tasks are not articulated to develop any of the Sustainable Development Goals; (3) there is a clear predominance of memorization tasks; (4) the teaching of statistics and probability in textbooks is not aligned with Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). These results are the roadmap for a new educational approach that allows the design of statistical and probability tasks to educate for sustainability in Primary Education. This new approach should promote that, through the progressive development of statistical and probabilistic literacy, students understand the different problems (social, economic and environmental) that we are faced with, as well as the measures that must be adopted to transform and act for a more sustainable world. Context is a key element in statistics education. The objective of this study is to examine the capacity of 14- and 15-year-old students to work with real data, analyse statistical graphs and frequency tables and interpret statistical data in its context. The results of the descriptive, exploratory analysis show that most students were correctly able to analyse and interpret data presented through statistical graphs and tables. However, some students had difficulties when it came to identifying the represented variables. More difficulties arose when calculating and interpreting means and medians — generally produced from the use of class midpoints — and making decisions. Students made little use of the context the data were presented in. Results reinforce the importance of using context in the teaching of statistics, encouraging justified decision-making. As a part of its development plans and educational Project, Universidad de Medellín, Colombia, intends to focus its research efforts on information and communications technology -ICT-. There is still a lack of information about the strengths that need to be enhanced, which makes focalization of capabilities a difficult task. The University needs to create a niche in which it would be recognized and distinguished from other institutions. To achieve this aim, a strategy in order to guide the ICT research activities within the University is proposed. This article reflects on a number of research trends to be taken into account as organizational directives that allow an optimal use of resources and infrastructure. For this purpose a qualitative perspective and a hermeneutic methodological approach are used. Former research findings reveal that Universidad de Medellín should research on topics related to education, technology infrastructure, policy and regulatory environment, software development, digital content, management and administration of organizations. In order to show a clearer view, every topic is divided into subgroups. With this mapping of the trends it would be possible for the University to optimize its efforts on IT research and to be recognized for its achievements in that field. Potato tuber moth (PTM), Phthorimaea operculella (Zeller), is one of the pests that cause the most damage to potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L.) in both field crops and storage, especially in regions where summers are hot and dry. Larvae develop in the foliage and tubers of potatoes and cause direct losses of edible product. The use of synthetic pheromones that interfere with insect mating for pest control has been widely demonstrated in numerous Lepidoptera and other insect species. An experiment was carried out during the 2004-2005 season in Valle del Elqui, Coquimbo Region, Chile, to evaluate the effectiveness of different pheromone trap densities to capture P operculella males for future development of a mass trapping technique, and a subsequent decrease in insect reproduction. The study evaluated densities of 10, 20, and 40 traps hat, baited with 0.2 mg of PTM sexual pheromone, and water- detergent for captures. Results indicated that larger numbers of male PTM were captured per trap with densities of 20 and 40 traps per hectare, resulting in a significant reduction (P < 0.05) of tuber damage in these treatments compared with the control which used conventional chemical insecticide sprays.
