This paper investigates the robust containment control problem of multiagent systems with heterogeneous uncertainty and nonlinearity while the nonlinear parts have to satisfy the Lipschitz condition. In this paper, both input time-delay and data transmission time-delay between the agents are considered simultaneously and communication topology of the multiagent systems may switch in the steady-state condition. Under the mentioned conditions, the objective of this paper is to make all the followers’ states converge to the convex hull shaped by the leaders’ states with an expected exponential rate. To this end, an appropriate smooth protocol is proposed. Then, a Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional composed of five terms is proposed and the stability condition is denoted by two linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). In addition to the stability assurance, solving the LMIs would obtain the suitable gains for the protocol. Finally, some numerical simulations are given to verify the theoretical analysis. This paper presents a robust event-triggered model predictive control (MPC) strategy for multiple high-speed trains (MHSTs) with random switching topologies. Due to the complicated operation environment of high-speed railways, the communication topology of MHSTs system is time-varying and changes among a set of directed graphs, which can be characterized as a Markov chain. By adopting the concept of MPC, this paper studies the distributed cooperative leader-following consensus control for MHSTs, in which a novel event-triggered strategy is introduced to determine when information exchange among neighboring trains and control update are executed. Firstly, the leader-following consensus problem of MHSTs system is transformed to the stabilization of a Markov jump system and a sufficient condition for leader-following consensus is derived with stability analysis of the Markov jump system based on the robust event-triggered MPC scheme. Then, the robust event-triggered MPC algorithm which minimizes the objective function is proposed. By optimizing the objective function, the deviation of states and amplitude of the control force are optimized. We apply the model on a realistic instance of the Central Western European system and comment on the impacts of both proactive and reactive transmission switching on the operating costs of the system. This paper proposes the application of a finite control set model predictive control (FCS-MPC) strategy in standalone ac microgrids (MGs). AC MGs are usually built from two or more voltage source converters (VSCs) which have the capability of regulating the voltage at the point of common coupling, while sharing the load power at the same time. Those functionalities are conventionally achieved by hierarchical linear control loops. However, they present severe limitations in terms of slow transient response and high sensitivity to parameter variations. This paper aims to mitigate these problems by first introducing an improvement of the FCS-MPC strategy for a single VSC that is based on explicit tracking of derivative of the voltage reference trajectory. Using only a single step prediction horizon, the proposed strategy exhibits very low computational expense, but provides steady-state performance comparable to carrier-based sinusoidal PWM, while its transient response and robustness to parameter variation is far superior to hierarchical linear control. These benefits are exploited in a general ac MG setting where a methodology for paralleling multiple FCS-MPC regulated VSCs is described. Such an MG is characterized by rapid transient response, inherent stability in all operating conditions, and fully decentralized operation of individual VSCs. We have recently applied the principles of continuum mechanics to develop a new leader–follower model for the collective motion of a multiagent system (MAS). Agents are modeled as particles of a continuum body that can deform in \mathbb R^n ( $n=1,2,3$ ) under a specific class of mappings, called the homogeneous transformation. This paper shows how a desired homogeneous deformation is uniquely specified based on the trajectories chosen by p\,+1$ ( p\leq n$ ) leaders, and it is acquired by the remaining agents, called followers, through local communication. Under this setup, every follower interacts with p+1$ local agents with fixed communication weights that are uniquely determined based on the initial positions of the agents. Although asymptotic convergence of the agents’ transient positions to the desired final positions (prescribed by a homogeneous transformation) can be assured by applying the proposed paradigm, follower agents deviate from the desired positions during evolution. The main objective of this paper is to assure that the transient error, the difference between the actual and desired positions of each follower, converges to zero during evolution. For this purpose, each leader chooses a time-dependent polynomial vector of order ( h-1 ) for its trajectory connecting two consecutive way points, and each follower applies continuous time or discrete time linear time invariant dynamics to update its state based on the states of p+1$ local agents. The second objective of this paper is to develop a paradigm for the homogeneous deformation of an MAS that is robust to communication failure. For this purpose, we will show how followers can acquire desired positions prescribed by a homogeneous mapping to preserve volumetric ratios under either fixed or switching communication topologies, where there is no restriction on the number of the agents, if every follower communicates with m_{i}\geq p+1 local agents. In addition, agents’ collective motion can be stably continued even if some followers give up communication with other agents at some time during evolution.

Note to Practitioners—A multiagent system evolution as continuum deformation is a novel idea for avoiding interagent collision and collisions of agents with obstacles, while a capability to manage large deformations (expiation or contraction) is provided. This idea becomes more interesting if deviations of agents from desired positions defined by continuum deformation vanish during evolution when agents only access neighboring agent state information. In this paper, the problems of stability and ${l_{2}}$ -gain analysis are investigated for discrete-time switched systems with mode-dependent average dwell time (DT). By proposing a novel multiple discontinuous Lyapunov function (MDLF) approach, the conditions of stability and weighted ${l_{2}}$ -gain are established for nonlinear systems. Next, the corresponding results for linear switched systems are also proposed by using MDLF. It turns out that our proposed results provide smaller bounds on the DT. In this paper, a comprehensive sliding mode control (SMC) loop design for a CLLC resonant converter is proposed. The major objectives of the proposed SMC are to improve the converter dynamics and to achieve a tight output voltage regulation with respect to any parameter variations and external disturbances. The sliding surface coefficients are selected to ensure both large- and small-signal stability for the robustness of the converter under different operating conditions. Furthermore, system dynamic performances considering the error dynamics and overshoots are investigated. To validate the proposed algorithm, a hardware prototype of a bi-directional CLLC resonant converter for plug-in electric vehicle applications is developed and tested up to 1 kW, and the effectiveness of the proposed control solution is verified by the load transients and start-up tests. At a 100% step-change in load power, the SMC achieves 1 ms settling time, which is approximately 0.9 ms faster than the conventional proportional integral control strategy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Effective identification of the load torque is one of the key aspects in improving the performance of servo drive systems against load disturbances. Sliding mode variable structure control has become a popular method in the development of a load torque identification (LTID) algorithm due to its parameter insensitivity and easy realization features. However, existing LTID sliding mode observers (SMO) with conventional structure have the disadvantages of high-frequency chattering and poor estimation accuracy, which limit its application in high-performance servo systems. In this paper, the mathematical model of the conventional LTID-SMO is deduced and analyzed. A new LTID-SMO is proposed by replacing the sign function with a saturation function and an additional feedback loop in the load torque observer. The effectiveness of the proposed observer is verified by various experiments. The results show that compared to conventional load torque observer, the proposed observer can identify the load torque with higher accuracy and faster response in different operational conditions. The low threshold voltage of Gallium Nitride enhancement mode FETs is a concern in synchronous dc–dc buck converters. This paper presents a converter using a gate drive with a negative biased gate voltage on the low-side FET to improve the dV/dt robustness. The resulting much larger voltage drop during the dead time conduction is a concern as it can quickly overcharge the bootstrap capacitor voltage. This paper demonstrates that with a negative biased gate voltage, the rise in the bootstrap capacitor voltage is predominantly caused by the change in effective dead time conduction due to a variation in output load. A spice model to estimate the change is presented and verified. This paper also found that a change in the bootstrap capacitor voltage must be prevented as it leads to a significant change in turn-on dynamics, resulting in higher dV/dt stress with an increase in output load. To prevent a change in bootstrap capacitor voltage, different techniques such as Zener diode clamping and an external free-wheeling Schottky diode are tested and discussed. Finally, a modification of a standard bootstrap circuit using a series inductor is proposed and tested. It has been found to be the most effective method in preventing a variation in the bootstrap capacitor voltage and should be included when using a negative gate drive in a GaN dc–dc buck converter. This paper presents the design, analysis, and verification of a novel reaching law for discrete-time sliding-mode control. The control gains of the reaching law are automatically regulated by the power function and the exponential term that dynamically adapts to the variation of the switching function. The reaching law also employs the perturbation estimation and the difference function to redefine the change rate as the second-order difference of the uncertainty. Compared with previous methods, the proposed reaching law has the capability to amend the control gains in a wise manner, further mitigate chattering, and guarantee a smaller width of the quasi-sliding-mode domain (QSMD). In order to describe the system dynamics in the reaching phase and the sliding phase with respect to control gain values, both the decrement band and the QSMD (ultimate band) of the proposed reaching law are theoretically analyzed. The reaching steps for the switching function to converge toward the sliding surface are also obtained. This paper presents an efficient direct-model predictive control (EDMPC) technique for surface-mounted permanent-magnet synchronous generators (PMSGs) in variable-speed wind energy conversion systems. The proposed control technique is based on directly computing the reference voltage vector (VV) from the demanded currents using a deadbeat (DB) function. Then, a discrete-time integral action (DTIA) is added to this DB function to enhance the robustness of the proposed EDMPC scheme against variations of the machine parameters and to achieve a good steady-state response. The proposed DTIA is simple and easy to implement. Finally, according to the location of this reference VV, two evaluations of the quality function are only required. Accordingly, the proposed EDMPC technique with DTIA overcomes the following drawbacks of the conventional direct-model predictive control (DMPC): high calculation burden, sensitivity to parameters mismatches, and non-zero steady-state error. The performance of the proposed EDMPC technique with DTIA has been experimentally investigated and compared with that of the EDMPC with time delay control approach and with the performance of the convention DMPC using a $\text{14.5}\,\text{kW}$ PMSG. This paper presents a novel model predictive torque control with discrete duty ratio optimization for a six-phase PMSM machine with high robustness against weighting factor variation. First, a two-step lookup table is developed to initially select the optimal voltage vector, which is to regulate the torque and flux in the energy conversion related subspace, as well as suppress the harmonic currents in the x–y subspace. Then, a null vector is inserted along with the selected optimal voltage vector to adjust the duty ratio with a set of value to avoid the complicated derivation. Subsequently, the optimal duty ratio is determined by a cost function to minimize the torque and flux error. So by using the proposed method, the torque ripple is reduced and even applying an improper weighting factor will not deteriorate the machine performance severely. In this paper, a new control strategy for single-inductor multiple-output (SIMO) converters is proposed. The strategy is based on the hybrid control scheme. Switched linear equations of the converter are used in the design procedure. As a result, the cross regulation is suppressed inherently. A minimum dwell-time constraint is considered to suppress the switching loss and electromagnetic interference. The proposed scheme can control both minimum phase and nonminimum phase SIMO converters. It will be shown that the system is robust to input voltage and load variations. In order to compare the results, a recent pulsewidth-modulation-based control system is considered. This paper presents a new least-mean-square (LMS) algorithm based deadtime compensation method to suppress the current distortion in permanent-magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) field-oriented control (FOC) drives. Compared to conventional average value compensations, the proposed method is robust to switching device parameter variations thanks to the online adaptation capability of the LMS algorithm. Similarly, the disturbance observer compensators are also immune to switching device parameter variations; however, varying motor parameters degrade their compensation performance. Without prior knowledge of switching device or motor parameters, the proposed method can directly reduce the deadtime current harmonics by generating compensation voltage references. In addition, the proposed method is easy to implement since it does not require voltage errors estimation or current harmonics extraction, which are necessary for disturbance observer and adaptive filter based methods. The proposed method is tested on a 2.5-kW voltage-source inverter PMSM drive controlled by an FOC algorithm. Its effectiveness is validated by both experimental results and spectrum analysis. A new approach to the control of three-phase two-level grid-connected power converters is proposed in this paper. The proposed control is an extended state observer (ESO)-based second order sliding mode (SOSM), which comprises two control loops: the outer loop is a voltage regulation loop, as well as inner loop is an instantaneous power tracking loop. The outer loop is accomplished by an ${H}_{\infty }$ controller plus an ESO, which is designed to regulate dc-link capacitor voltage of the converter and asymptotically reject external disturbances and parameter perturbations. The SOSM strategy is employed in the inner loop to drive the active and reactive power convergence to their desired values. Control objectives of nearly unity power factor and dc-link capacitor voltage regulation are simultaneously satisfied. Availability of the ESO-based SOSM is compared with the classic proportional-integral control in simulations, and the comparison implies that the proposed strategy not merely achieves an almost perfect tracking performance, but also provides a complete robustness against resistance load variation. In this paper, a fifth-order boost point-of-load converter is developed by cascading a modified fourth-order boost converter with a combination of L–C and diode. This topology has the following salient features: Single-switch topology, common ground between source and load, low-voltage stress across intermediate capacitors, and voltage gain same as other reported fifth-order boost converters with no common ground. Steady-state and dynamic analyses demonstrate the proposed converter's boosting feature and dynamic performance, respectively. A contoured robust Bode plot methodology is employed to design the robust voltage-mode controller to ensure load voltage regulation in the presence of uncertainties. The necessary and sufficient conditions under which the designed controller guarantees the load voltage regulation and robust stability are obtained. A step-by-step robust controller design procedure is outlined. The salient features of the proposed converter and its robust performance are studied analytically, using the MATLAB platform, and validated experimentally on a 60-W prototype module. This paper presents a model-based method to diagnose single- and multiple-transistor open-circuit (OC) faults in grid-tied three-phase voltage-source inverters (VSIs). The method is based on calculated average bridge arm pole-to-pole (PTP) voltages and error-adaptive thresholds. Only existing signals for closed-loop control are needed; thus, this method can be easily embedded in the system without extra sampling and circuits. Average PTP voltage deviations are chosen as diagnosis variables, which show considerable distinction quickly after fault. Consequently, fast fault diagnosis speed can be achieved. The fault diagnosis time for single fault can be as short as two switching periods. Besides, diagnosis variables show the same faulty characteristics in inverter mode and rectifier mode; thus, this method is effective in both modes. Moreover, for the first time, the variation of inductance caused by conducted current is considered to obtain a more accurate variable-inductance model, and the thresholds are updated according to mathematically estimated diagnosis variable calculation errors from sampling error, inductance error, dead time, and delay time, which maintains high robustness as well as fast speed. Although the robustness of indirect methods is enhanced by the homotopic approach and switching detection technique when applied to fuel-optimal low-thrust trajectory optimization, the bottleneck in adjoint initialization still needs further investigation. This paper overcomes this bottleneck by the adjoint mapping between the Lagrange multipliers of direct methods to the adjoint variables. The nonconvex optimization problem deduced from direct methods is converted into a convex one by lossless convexification and successive convex programming. Analog circuitry-based photovoltaic (PV) maximum power point (MPP) tracking (MPPT) technique is attractive due to its low cost and capability of easy integration with normal dc–dc switching converters. However, realization of classical digital MPPT algorithms using analog circuitries is a challenging task. It necessarily requires to store the information of module voltage/current and power in order to find the desired MPP. While at the same time, improper design of digital MPPT controllers may cause poor tracking performances or limit cycle oscillations to manifest, which are generally seen as being undesirable. This paper proposes a fast and robust analog PV MPP tracker without imposing any external control or perturbation. The fast dynamic performances with absolute robustness are ensured here by integrating the concepts of Utkin's equivalent sliding mode control law and fast-scale stability analysis of actual switched converter systems. Moreover, the superiority of the proposed MPP tracker (in terms of high-tracking performances) over classical ones, and its impact in series-connected converters configuration are analytically demonstrated through the procedure developed in this paper. This paper presents a variable structure control in natural frame for a three-phase gird-connected voltage-source inverter with LCL filter. The proposed control method is based on modifying the converter model in natural reference frame, preserving the low-frequency state-space variables dynamics. Using this model in a Kalman filter (KF), the system state-space variables are estimated allowing us to design three independent current sliding-mode controllers. The main closed-loop features of the proposed method are: first, robustness against grid inductance variations because the proposed model is independent of the grid inductance; second, the power losses are reduced since physical damping resistors are avoided; third, the control bandwidth can be increased due to the combination of a variable hysteresis comparator with the KF; and fourth, the grid-side current is directly controlled providing high robustness against harmonics in the grid. To complete the control scheme, a theoretical stability analysis is developed. Two main problems, including unbalanced grid input and circuit parameters uncertainty in the three-phase soft-switching converter control system, are considered in this paper. First, the constant-switching-frequency model-predictive control (CF-MPC) is improved for application in compound active-clamp zero-voltage-switching three-phase power factor correction converter. Second, a robust-constant-frequency model-predictive control (RCF-MPC) method is proposed for current loop; the novel contributions are: 1) the negative-sequence current component is introduced into the cost function of the model-predictive control to decrease the influence of unbalanced grid input; and 2) a robust item is added into the predictive model to reduce the influence of the circuit parameter uncertainty. Third, a robust variable structure controller is proposed for voltage loop considering the capacitor and load uncertainty. The simulation and experiment results show that, compared with the original CF-MPC method and the traditional proportional–integral control method, the proposed RCF-MPC method decreases the total harmonic distortion under the unbalanced grid condition. This paper proposes an effective model predictive control (MPC) scheme using a modulated optimal vector (MOV) and finite control options for a three-phase inverter with an LC filter. Unlike other MPC methods, the proposed MPC strategy exploits the unconstrained optimal vector (OV) of the continuous-control-set (CCS) MPC to limit the control options for the unconstrained mode. First, the analytical OV is derived based on a least-squares optimization. If the input constraints are not violated, the OV is applied with a space vector modulation (SVM) technique like the CCS-MPC. Otherwise, the OV is scaled into the MOV and only three control options are online evaluated to reselect the control input. Experiments are conducted on a three-phase inverter test bed with a TI TMS320F28335 digital signal processor to validate the improvements of the proposed method, especially the robust performances and fast responses. The comparative results with the FCS-MPC show the superior performances of the proposed scheme with smaller steady-state error and lower total harmonic distortion due to the analytical OV with SVM, more robustness to parameter uncertainties due to the disturbance observer, and faster dynamic response due to the online reselection of control inputs. In this paper, a robust voltage control is designed for a floating interleaved boost converter with high voltage gain. The proposed controller has an inner loop based on super-twisting sliding mode algorithm, which has continuous control signal and the sliding surface is defined for the inductor current. The reference current value is generated by active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) algorithm in the outer loop, based on the output voltage error. The stability of the sliding mode inner loop and the ADRC outer loop are proven using Lyapunov stability theorem and Routh–Hurwitz criteria, respectively. This paper describes the design of an interleaved sliding mode control for a multiphase synchronous buck converter, which inherits the properties of sliding mode control, operates with fixed switching frequency in the steady-state, and ensures current equalization among phases. Moreover, a power management algorithm is added in order to decide the number of active phases as function of the power load demand, thus optimizing the converter efficiency. The system uses a Master–Slave structure where each phase can actuate as the Master one in such a way that the overall system reliability is improved. Experimental results in a 1.5 kW eight-phase synchronous buck converter show that interleaving operation, robust output voltage regulation, phase current equalization, switching frequency regulation, and power management are achieved. Nonvolatile logic computations are of particular interest due to their zero standby leakage power consumption. In this paper, we explore a nonvolatile majority logic using voltage-driven magnetoelectric (ME) switching of ferromagnets. Specifically, we employ ME magnetic tunnel junctions (ME-MTJs) connected in parallel to construct a majority gate. We also present the cascadability of the proposed majority gate using CMOS inverters. Furthermore, through a mixed-mode simulation framework consisting of magnetization dynamics and electron transport model, we analyze the robustness of the proposed majority gate under process variations. Our analysis shows that due to parallel connection of the ME-MTJs, high tunnel magnetoresistance (TMR) ratios are required for proper functioning of the proposed majority gate, in presence of variations. In order to relax the constraints on the TMR requirements, we present an alternate implementation of the majority logic that does not require a parallel connection of ME-MTJs, thereby increasing the robustness against process variations. Under the weaker conditions on system power and nonlinear functions, this paper focuses on the robust adaptive state constraint control for a class of uncertain switched high-order nonlinear systems. With the help of $p$-times differentiable unbounded function, a robust adaptive state-feedback controller is designed by combining the homogeneous domination approach with parameter separation principle. When the initial condition satisfies a suitable requirement, it is shown that all signals of the closed-loop system are bounded and system state is within a prespecified limit range by the proposed controller. As a practical application, the design scheme is utilized to the continuous stirred tank reactor with two modes feed stream. This paper proposes a new adaptive-robust control (ARC) strategy for a tracking control problem of a class of uncertain Euler–Lagrange systems. The proposed adaptive-robust time-delay control (ARTDC) amalgamates the ARC strategy with the time-delay control (TDC). It comprises three parts: a time-delay estimation part, a desired dynamics injection part, and an adaptive-robust part. The main feature of the proposed ARTDC is that it does not involve any threshold value in its adaptive law; thus, it allows the switching gain to increase or decrease whenever the error trajectories move away or close to the switching surface, respectively. Thus, compared with the existing ARC schemes, ARTDC is able to alleviate the over- and underestimation problems of the switching gain. Moreover, the stability analysis of ARTDC provides an upper bound for the selection of sampling interval and its relation with controller gains. The proposed ARTDC shows improved tracking performance compared with the TDC and the existing adaptive sliding-mode control in simulations as well as in experiments with a multiple-degree-of-freedom system. Predictive torque control (PTC) is based on the prediction of motor torque and stator flux for all possible voltage vectors of power converter. These predictions are derived from a mathematical model of the motor that depends on the motor parameters. But, these parameters may not match with their actual values. These parametric uncertainties lead to inaccurate predictions of torque and stator flux and affect the performance of the predictive algorithm. Wafer stage is an important mechatronic unit of industrial lithography tool for manufacturing integrated circuits. This paper presents a novel state/model-free variable-gain discrete sliding mode control (DSMC) to suppress the unmolded position-dependent dynamics and disturbances in the nanopositioning wafer stage. The proposed DSMC is essentially composed of feedforward control term, linear feedback control term, and nonlinear switching control term, which can be designed separately. The gain of the switching control term is meaningfully designed to be variable to balance the tradeoff between the robustness and the chattering. Data-driven parameter optimization approach is employed to achieve the optimal controller parameters of the typically nonlinear controller, where off-line parameter updating is iteratively carried out based on the input/output data to minimize a predefined objective function. This scheme facilitates a rapid implementation without either a parameter model or a state observer, and excellent tracking performance with the optimal controller parameters. Moreover, the closed-loop stability is analyzed, and the proposed DSMC is finally implemented on an ultraprecision wafer stage developed in our lab. Transformerless topologies are employed in single-phase photovoltaic inverter converters due to their small size and low weight. Avoiding the grid-side transformer requires the modulation technique and the basis topology to be accordingly changed in order to mitigate dc current components in the grid side and the leakage current to ground. This paper carries out a sensitivity analysis of the selected transformerless topologies. This analysis investigates the impact of parameter variations depending on the choice of the employed semiconductor devices and detects the device for each topology, which affects the overall efficiency the most as well as the topology that is affected the most by the parameter variations with respect to the efficiency, leakage current, and grid-side dc current component. It is shown that, based on the proposed statistical analysis procedure, the impact of parameter variability can be analyzed with a reduced computational burden. An approach for the simplification of the comparison of the analyzed topologies is presented. As a result, relevant information for engineers selecting the most suitable power devices for the implementation of a certain transformerless topology is provided. The proposed analysis also allows to assess the robustness of the topologies’ performance to the choice of different components when this selections is driven by other factors, such as cost and supply chain management. In this paper, a novel reaching law for discrete-time sliding-mode control is proposed. The reaching law is established based on an exponential term that dynamically adapts to the variation of the switching function. The difference function is also employed to redefine the change rate as the second-order difference of the disturbance. Unlike existing works, the proposed reaching law is able to guarantee smaller width of the quasi-sliding-mode domain (QSMD) while decreasing the reaching time in the same time. The ultimate magnitude of the QSMD in proposed method is of the order O(T3). Moreover, the reaching steps for the system to converge to the sliding surface are obtained and the system dynamics in and out the QSMD are theoretically analyzed. Wireless power transfer (WPT) working at megahertz (MHz) is widely considered a promising technology for midrange and low-power applications. A Class $ E^2$ dc–dc converter is composed of a Class E power amplifier (PA) and a Class E rectifier. It is attractive for applications in MHz WPT due to the soft-switching properties of both the PA and the rectifier. Using the existing design, the Class $E^2$ dc–dc converter can only achieve optimal performance such as a high efficiency under a fixed operating condition. Meanwhile, in real applications variations in the coil relative position and the final load are common. The purpose of this paper is to analyze and develop a general design methodology for a robust Class $E^2$ dc–dc converter in MHz WPT applications. Component and system efficiencies are analytically derived, which serve as the basis for the determination of the design parameters. The classical matching network of the Class E PA is also improved that provides the required impedance compression capability. Then, a robust parameter design procedure is developed. Both the experimental and calculated results show that proposed design approach can significantly improve the robustness of the efficiency of the Class $E^2$ dc–dc converter against variations in coil relative position and final load. Finally, the experiments show that the range of variation of the system efficiency is narrowed from 47.5%–85.0% to 73.3%–83.7% using the proposed robust design. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents an adaptive observer (AO)-based model predictive control (MPC) for a multilevel flying capacitors inverter (FCI). The proposed system consists of a midpoint dc-link three-cell four-level FCI feeding an RL load. Using the actual load current, the proposed AO estimates accurately the capacitors’ voltages, which are fed to the MPC algorithm by means of a hybrid model considering both discrete and continuous variables. For real-time constraints, sufficient conditions are given to guarantee the practical stability of the proposed AO-based MPC. Theoretical analysis and experimental results are given to show that the proposed method is stable for all system configurations and has good performances even during disturbances (load change, input change, and parameters variations). The envelope-following (EF) simulation of practical dc-dc converters is challenging due to the presence of digital behavior, strong nonlinearity, complex frequency module schemes, and feedback loops. This paper presents a novel EF method for time-domain analysis of dc-dc converters-based upon a numerically robust time-delayed phase condition to track the envelopes of circuit states under a varying switching frequency. We further develop an EF technique that is applicable to both fixed and varying switching frequency operations, thereby providing a unifying solution to converters with pulse width modulation, pulse frequency modulation, and pulse skipping modulation. By adopting three fast simulation techniques, our proposed EF method achieves higher speedup without composing the accuracy of the results. The robustness and efficiency of the proposed method are demonstrated using several dc-dc converter and oscillator circuits modeled using the industrial standard BSIM4 transistor models. A significant runtime speedup of up to 30X with respect to the conventional transient analysis is achieved for several dc-dc converters with strong nonlinear switching characteristics. In this paper, a new discrete reaching law with improved quasi-sliding-mode domain (QSMD) is proposed and a sliding-mode controller is designed for discrete-time systems with uncertainties. By redefining the change rate as the second-order difference of the system uncertainties and adopting the continuous-approximate function, smaller width of the QSMD can be guaranteed. Moreover, the QSMD of the proposed reaching law is obtained and the system dynamics in and out the QSMD are theoretically analyzed. The predictive control method deals with the prediction of the motor behavior based on a mathematical model of the motor. This model is dependent on the motor parameters. However, these parameters may not match with their actual values due to the measurement error or they may change during the operation of the motor. All these uncertainties and model inexactitude lead to inaccurate prediction of the motor behavior and deteriorate the performance of the predictive algorithm. This paper presents an extension of the predictive current control (PCC) method to improve the prediction accuracy for a permanent-magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). The proposed strategy not only reduces the current ripple but also improves the robustness of the system against parameter uncertainties. This paper presents a sliding-mode control (SMC) strategy for single-phase grid-connected \mboxLCL-filtered voltage source inverters (VSIs) with double-band hysteresis scheme. The proposed SMC is simpler than the existing SMC methods devised for grid-connected VSIs since its sliding-surface function requires the sensing of capacitor voltage and grid current only. In addition, a double-band hysteresis scheme which ensures the switching of a transistor in the VSI during a half cycle while it remains either on or off in the other half cycle of the fundamental period is used to mitigate the switching frequency. Furthermore, the analytical expressions for the instantaneous and average switching frequencies are derived. The theoretical considerations and analytical results are verified through computer simulations and experimental results obtained from a 3.3-kW system. Simulation and experimental results show that the proposed SMC strategy exhibits an excellent performance in achieving the required control objectives such as fast dynamic response, robustness, sinusoidal grid current with low total harmonic distortion, and simplicity in a practical implementation.
