The purpose of this research is to analyze the mental processing associated with the coining of words, specifically those denoting penis in American Spanish. To this end, the salient features of the ICM (Idealized Cognitive Model) of 241 words denoting penis, documented in the Dictionary of Spanish-Czech Americanisms, were studied. The results demonstrate the activation of a multitude of salient features throughout the coining process, emphasizing its shape, physiological characteristics, functions (reproductive and urinary), and the subjective perception of the speakers. Furthermore, it is not uncommon for multiple features to be combined and for further metaphors or metonymies to take place. It is concluded that this article sheds new light on the heterogeneity, peculiarities, and combinatorial possibilities of the salient features of the ICM during the minting process, illustrated by a concept, pene, which, given its cultural and social connotations, stands out for an unusual abundance of terms denoting it. L’objectif de la présente étude est de détecter les traductions ratées dans le dictionnaire « Expressions idiomatiques arabes » de Moussaoui, d'en expliquer les raisons et de suggérer à la place des traductions françaises correctes. Nous avons suivi une approche analytique basée sur la théorie de Scopos. D’après notre analyse, il ressort que donner une traduction littérale de l’expression est une étape intermédiaire importante qui devrait précéder l’offre de l’équivalent définitif en français dans le dictionnaire. Elle devrait être adaptée au système linguistique de la langue cible. Elle donnerait au lecteur du dictionnaire des perceptions culturelles précises de la langue de départ. Toute traduction ratée à cet égard empêche le lecteur de saisir des aspects cognitifs importants liés à cette langue. Ces traductions littérales doivent être suivies des équivalents minutieusement choisis dans la langue cible. Le traducteur devrait être conscient de la portée exacte de l’utilisation des expressions originales. La traduction littérale et l’équivalent final formeraient ainsi des matières brutes grâce à lesquelles, le lecteur du dictionnaire sera capable, d’abord en arabe, de bien choisir l’expression idiomatique adaptée à la situation. Ensuite en français, il pourra adopter les équivalents proposés dans le dictionnaire, en trouver d’autre formes dans sa langue, ou bien en forger des formes toutes neuves. Par ailleurs, traduire les expressions idiomatiques obsolètes exige en particulier d’en authentifier la forme et le sens. Traduire ses expressions serait ainsi une façon de les faire revivre dans leur langue d’origine et de partager la sagesse qu’elles impliquent avec d’autres langues.الهدف من الدراسة الحالية هو الكشف عن الترجمات الخاطئة في معجم "التعبيرات الاصطلاحية العربية" لموسوي، وشرح أسبابها واقتراح ترجمات فرنسية صحيحة بدلا منها. وقد اتبعنا منهجا تحليليا يعتمد على نظرية الهدف. وقد تبين من خلال تحليلنا أن إعطاء ترجمة حرفية للتعبير هو مرحلة وسيطة مهمة يجب أن تسبق إعطاء المكافئ الفرنسي في صورته النهائية في المعجم. ويجب أن تتكيف هذه الترجمة الحرفية مع النظام اللغوي للّغة الهدف. حيث أن من شأنها أن تعطي قارئ القاموس تصورات ثقافية دقيقة للّغة المصدر. وأي ترجمة فاشلة في هذا الصدد ستحول دون استيعاب القارئ لجوانب معرفية مهمة متعلقة بتلك اللغة. وعقب هذه الترجمات الحرفية، يجب أن تأتي مكافئات من اللغة الهدف مختارة بعناية. وينبغي أن يكون المترجم على دراية دقيقة بنطاق استخدام التعبيرات الأصلية. ومن ثم فإن الترجمة الحرفية والمكافئ النهائي سيشكلان سويا موادا أولية سيتمكن بفضلها بداية قارئ القاموس، من اختيار التعبير الاصطلاحي الذي يتناسب مع الموقف في اللغة العربية. ثم سيكون قادرا في اللغة الفرنسية على قبول المكافئات التي يطرحها المعجم، أو إيجاد أشكال أخرى منها في لغته، أو صكّ أشكال جديدة تماما. علاوة على ذلك، فإن ترجمة التعبيرات الاصطلاحية القديمة تتطلب بشكل خاص التحقق من مبناها ومعناها. وبالتالي فإن ترجمتها ستكون وسيلة لإعادتها إلى الحياة في لغتها الأصلية ومشاركة الحكمة التي تنطوي عليها مع اللغات الأخرى.

La notion de « litt&nature » permet de mettre au jour un corpus international de textes hybrides au statut incertain et mal identifié, ni vraiment « scientifiques », ni vraiment « littéraires », qui portent la marque d’une tension entre deux modes de connaissance de la nature. Prenant acte des principales difficultés qui empêchent encore actuellement l’élaboration d’une méthode critique générale qui permette de penser cette tension, les auteurs du Dictionnaire de litt&nature (à paraître aux Classiques Garnier en 2025) se proposent de contribuer, par la participation d’un ensemble de contributeurs, à l’effort de théoriser l’inscription des savoirs de la nature dans la littérature. L’objet dictionnaire s’y prête tout particulièrement.

Jacques Sternberg (1923-2006) fut une figure singulière de la scène littéraire parisienne dans les années 1960-1970, aujourd’hui surtout connue pour sa collaboration avec Alain Resnais et Roland Topor. En 1973, il publie un Dictionnaire du mépris où, en 443 entrées (d’Absurde à Zoo en passant par Minable), il exprime sa détestation de l’humanité en général et de la France pompidolienne en particulier. Le livre, qui sera suivi en 1985 par un Dictionnaire des idées revues, est rarement drôle. Son principal intérêt réside dans le recours à la forme alphabétique (empruntée à Voltaire, Flaubert et Ambrose Bierce) et dans son titre. Sternberg, qui prétend ne pas s’intéresser aux gens et ne pas aimer la littérature, se sent comme un prêtre qui ne croirait pas en Dieu. Mais pour lui le mépris est une passion revendiquée, étape nécessaire pour parvenir au « véritable humour », qui a peut-être ses racines dans l’expérience de l’horreur de la guerre et des camps où son père perdit la vie.

L’objet de notre étude aspire à retracer les liens lointains des deux langues, à savoir l’arabe et le français, qui se sont croisées et influencées. En effet, l’expansion extraordinaire de la religion musulmane et donc de l’arabe sur un territoire qui s’étendra en moins de deux siècles de l’Atlantique à l’Indus a été à l’origine d’influence certaine. La langue arabe, dès le moyen âge, s’est trouvée au contact avec les langues de l’Occident, lors de la fondation des Dynasties andalouses en Espagne à partir du VIIIe siècle, puis au cours des croisades, et vers le XIIIe siècle, à la Cour de Frédéric II de Hohenstaufen en Sicile. Le monde de la science arabe y était aussi largement représenté par des grands savants qui vivaient en Sicile mais aussi à Naples, à Tolède, à Grenade et à Séville. C’est surtout par le nombre considérable de traductions élaborées entre le VIIIe et le XIIIe siècle, d’abord du grec à l’arabe, puis de l’arabe au latin et donc aux langues issues du latin telle que la langue française que l’on peut mesurer tout ce que l’Occident doit à la science arabe et le rôle joué par les sciences arabes dans l’évolution de la civilisation humaine. Dans cette étude, on s’intéressera aux relations historiques qui existent depuis des siècles entre l’arabe et le français et qui se manifeste en particulier dans le lexique scientifique. - Our study aims to track the old links between Arabic and French languages which meet and influence each other. Actually, the main source of this influence started with the huge and the great expansion of Islam, hence, the expansion of the Arabic language in different places for at least two centuries from the Atlantic Ocean to the Indus. Consequently, the Arabic language has become opened to occidental languages since the Middle Ages; in other words since the establishment of the first Andalusia governors in Spain from the eighth century and during the Crusades and about the thirteenth century, during the age of Frederick II Hohenstaufen in Sicily. The Arabic sciences were also widely represented by the great scholars, who lived in Sicily and also in Naples, Toledo, Granada, and Seville, as well as by the huge number of translated works between the eighth and thirteen century from Greek to Arabic and from Arabic to Latin. That is to say, to the French language since it is derived from Latin. One may notice how much the West benefits from the East and the role of the Arabic sciences in the development of human civilization. In this study, we will discuss the historical relations between Arabic and French that dated back to centuries and which appear exceptionally in the scientific linguistic dictionary.

Le présentateur de l'ouvrage, objet de cet article, qui en est également l'auteur, se propose de démontrer que la forme dictionnairique peut parfaitement être le support d'un roman, en l'occurrence celui de la révolution tunisienne et de son détournement par l'islam politique. Si les lexèmes, et leurs énoncés explicatifs, constituent la trame narrative de l'œuvre, la fragmentation de l'ordre dictionnairique et la néologie en assurent l'identité générique.

In a few years, in France, political and media discourses on vulnerability have replaced discourses on exclusion. This exploratory study aims to measure the transformations of social representations of exclusion by analyzing the semantic maps of this notion and the more recent vulnerability. The semantic maps are built from thesaurus dictionary. At the end of this analysis, we will observe an evolution of social representations with the use of the notion of vulnerability, which focuses on the individual, and not on the social system, the full weight of his fragility.

Dans certains dictionnaires de géographie, des auteurs ont tenté de jouer les pères nobles en revendiquant le concept de géographicité qui, malgré son utilité indéniable, n’a pas déclenché de leur part une véritable recherche pour l’identifier et en fonder la pertinence. La production d’un dictionnaire spécialisé, c’est bien connu, oblige à ratisser large, mais pas vraiment profond, puisqu’il s’agit, la plupart du temps, d’exercer un pouvoir sur des esprits insuffisamment préparés. Les auteurs devraient, pour cela, être condamnés pour détournement de « mineurs », au sens intellectuel du terme. Non seulement, on ne dénonce pas assez ces pratiques, mais en fait on les glorifie avec une inconscience certaine. Il y a, là, matière à collectionner des idées reçues … dont on aurait tort de s’empresser de faire … un dictionnaire ! C’est assez dire que je me garderai bien de puiser, quoi que ce soit, dans ces travaux faits, pour une bonne part de lieux communs. Pourtant, une histoire du concept de géographicité serait bien utile, mais dépasserait largement le cadre de ce texte. En effet, tenter d’élaborer une histoire conceptuelle reviendrait à parcourir l’entièreté du champ de l’histoire de la géographie.

Le présent article vise à aborder des réflexions relatives à la rédaction de la définition lexicographique bilingue de vulgarisation, qui s’insère dans le cadre du projet du « Dicionário Português Europeu – Árabe Padrão », dont l’élaboration est en cours. L’intégration dans la nomenclature du dictionnaire d’un certain nombre de termes liés aux domaines de spécialité, notamment le domaine des Énergies Renouvelables, présuppose l’adoption d’une méthodologie qui permet de les incorporer dans ce dictionnaire et de leur attribuer des équivalents adéquats et compatibles avec chaque culture. Le recours aux corpus bilingues et comparables permet à la fois le recueil des termes et l’exploitation de leurs respectives reformulations pour la confection d’une définition qui s’ajuste à la typologie de ce dictionnaire (général et bilingue) et au public visé (le grand public) : la définition lexicographique bilingue de vulgarisation.

Setting of locutions' lemma raises a number of pitfalls. These pitfalls become more acute, because the lemma, in this case, does not correspond to a simple lexeme, but a multiverbal unit. In fact, it is often difficult to decide under which component of those that make up the locution should be lemmated, which explains why dictionaries do not agree when determining the lemma of this type of phraseological units. This contribution tries to show how the lemma of locutions is described in several general monolingual and phraseological dictionaries. To do this, we will clarify several issues related to this topic, such as the canonical form, the contour elements, the insertion of some elements in the lemma, the prepositional regime, etc. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
