The sol-gel method for bioactive glass synthesis offers advantages such as precise control over the chemistry, a straightforward way of modifying the composition and lower processing temperatures. However, longer processing times are required, increasing energy consumption. The present work successfully produced 58S bioactive glass employing microwave technology and a two steps synthesis route, saving significant energy and time (76 % and 99 % respectively) compared to conventional methods such as sol-gel and hydrothermal method, directly impacting on cost savings and competitiveness. Microwave pressure played a key role: higher pressure led to lower content of residual nitrates and could reduce final processing temperature. This pressure dependence allows for precise control of the glass properties. The resulting glass closely resembled the characteristics and properties of the same glass produced by conventional methods, demonstrating the effectiveness of microwave technology. Even though the biodegradability of polycaprolactone (PCL) and its nanocomposites is lower compared to other biodegradable polyesters, this property and good biocompatibility are used for development of materials for drug delivery with a long‐term effect. We prepared novel PCL/clay nanocomposite films with antimicrobials chlorhexidine (CH) or octenidine (OCT) combined with ZnO anchored on vermiculite (VER). The intercalation of CH and OCT into the interlayer of VER/ZnOVER was confirmed by XRD, FTIR and SEM. The organically modified nanofillers compared to VER (−46.0 mV) or ZnOVER (−34.9 mV) showed a positive ζ‐potential (+30.7 mV (VER_CH), +21.9 mV (VER_OCT), +24.6 mV (ZnOVER_CH)) indicating a relatively stable materials, except ZnOVER_OCT (+8.6 mV), which strongly agglomerated. Thin PCL/clay films were prepared by solvent casting method and the effect of used nanofillers on structural, thermal, mechanical and antimicrobial properties followed by degradation under hydrolytic conditions was studied. The results showed that presence of ZnO significantly decreases thermal and mechanical stability. The nanofillers with the higher hydrophilic character are responsible for the fastest degradation of PCL matrix. Films possessed high antimicrobial efficiency in long time intervals, hence these nanocomposites open new avenues for the possible application of such materials for the drug delivery with a long‐term effect. The potential evidential value of male underwear in cases of alleged sexual assault is often overlooked. Male underwear can be a critical item in the investigation of alleged sexual assaults. Body fluids/DNA, which may transfer to the penis during sexual contact, may in turn transfer to the inside front of the underwear, and persist for months or years, provided the underwear are not washed. Here, we demonstrate how the case circumstances drive the sampling strategy of male underwear, in order to maximize the effectiveness of the forensic analysis. Sampling considerations including recovery methods and sampling sequence are discussed, and a methodical examination strategy of male underwear is proposed. To highlight the pertinence of male underwear to the investigation of alleged sexual assaults, three real‐life cases are discussed, in which male underwear were examined for multiple body fluids/DNA, and the findings obtained proved evidentially significant. The different cases demonstrate the versatility of male underwear examination in situations, where different body fluids and DNA may transfer based on the specific allegation, and emphasize how targeted sampling can allow the scientist to assess the probability of the findings based on two competing propositions. This research investigates the usage of pipette tip micro solid phase extraction for the separation of 6-mercaptopurine of complicated matrices before its spectrophotometric detection. To overcome the non-selectivity of spectrophotometry, an ethylene glycol dimethacrylatebased molecularly imprinted polymer was prepared and applied as an adsorbent, which enabled selective and fast extraction of the analyte. To improve the transfer of the analyte to the adsorbent, a salting-out effect was employed by the addition of 300 mg of NaCl to the sample before performing microextraction. Variables affecting the microextraction of the protocol were investigated utilizing two ways one-factorat-a-time and response surface methodology, which showed good consistency with each other. Extraction parameters were optimized as pH of sample = 9.0, sample volume = 10 ml, amount of adsorbent = 2.0 mg, eluent = 250 µl of methanol:acetonitrile (1:5 v/v), and extraction and elution cycles of 10 and 12 times, respectively. The dynamic linear range of the protocol was 1.0-1000.0 µg l-1, with a limit of detection of 0.25 µg l-1. The method was compared with extraction by a non-imprinted polymer. The extraction efficiency of the analyte was obtained from 96.0% to 99.8%, by relative standard deviations better than 5.3%. The suggested technique was employed to determine 6-mercaptopurine in seawater and body fluid samples, and the results were validated by comparing them to a standard HPLC method. Body fluids are one of the most encountered types of evidence in any crime and are commonly used for identifying a person's identity. In addition to these, they are also useful in ascertaining the nature of crime by determining the ty pe of fluid such as blood, semen, saliva, urine etc. Body fluids collected from crime scenes are mostly found in degraded, trace amounts and/or mixed with other fluids. However, the existing immunological and enzyme-based methods used for differentiating these fluids show limited specificity and sensitivity in such cases. To overcome these challenges, a new method utilizing microRNA expression of the body fluids has been proposed. This method is believed to be non-destructive as well as sensitive in nature and researches have shown promising results for highly degraded samples as well. This systematic review focuses on and explores the use and reliability of miRNAs in body fluid identification. Andes virus (ANDV) is a zoonotic Orthohantavirus leading to hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome. Although most transmissions occur through environmental exposure to rodent faeces and urine, rare person-to-person transmission has been documented, mainly for close contacts. This study investigates the presence and infectivity of ANDV in body fluids from confirmed cases and the duration of viraemia. In this prospective study, 131 participants with confirmed ANDV infection were enrolled in Chile in a prospective study between 2008 and 2022. Clinical samples (buffy coat, plasma, gingival crevicular fluid [GCF], saliva, nasopharyngeal swabs [NPS], and urine) were collected weekly for 3 weeks together with clinical and epidemiological data. Samples were categorised as acute or convalescent (up to and after 16 days following onset of symptoms). Infectivity of positive fluids was assessed after the culture of samples on Vero E6 cells and use of flow cytometry assays to determine the production of ANDV nucleoprotein. ANDV RNA was detected in 100% of buffy coats during acute phase, declining to 95% by day 17, and to 93% between days 23–29. ANDV RNA in GCF and saliva decreased from 30% and 12%, respectively, during the acute phase, to 12% and 11% during the convalescent phase. Successful infectivity assays of RT-qPCR-positive fluids, including GCF, saliva, NPS, and urine, were observed in 18 (42%) of 43 samples obtained during the acute phase of infection. After re-culture, the capacity to infect Vero E6 cells was maintained in 16 (89%) of 18 samples. Severity was associated with the presence of ANDV RNA in one or more fluids besides blood (odds ratio 2·58 [95% CI 1·42–5·18]). ANDV infection is a systemic and viraemic infection, that affects various organs. The presence of infectious particles in body fluids contributes to our understanding of potential mechanisms for person-to-person transmission, supporting the development of preventive strategies. The goal of the current work is to analyse the Zn scaffold porosity effects on its corrosion behavior. Organized porous network structure (OPNS) zinc samples with varying porosity were manufactured by a newly developed rapid tooling approach that combined 3D printing and microwave sintering. The outcomes of the OPNS Zn samples were also compared to the dense zinc sample. For the corrosion analysis, porous and dense zinc samples electrochemical corrosion testing were conducted in SBF electrolyte at 37 °C. The zinc samples morphological study was accessed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It was confirmed by the findings of the morphological study that the Zn samples contained randomly distributed micropores and designed or organized macropores. The zinc sample corrosion behavior in SBF was analyzed by potentiodynamic (PD) polarisation and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) curves. In addition, an electrical equivalent circuit (EEC) model was developed using the EIS experimental data to establish an understanding of the corrosion behavior of Zn samples. Overall corrosion testing results demonstrate that the diffusion mechanism had an impact on the corrosion mechanism of Zn samples and diffusion mechanism during electrochemical reaction supported by the porosity of the sample. The Zn samples corrosion rate was found to be minimum for the dense sample (0.14 mm y−1), while it was maximum for the highest porosity OPNS Zn sample (0.66 mm y−1). BACKGROUND: The dysfunction of bladder function caused by spinal cord injury is a difficult point in clinical treatment and a hot spot in research. Repairing the injured spinal cord and remodeling the bladder micturition reflex pathway are the fundamental treatment methods. OBJECTIVE: To summarize the reconstruction of the bladder innervation pathway after spinal cord transection injury and its related influencing factors. METHODS: The relevant literature concerning the reconstruction of bladder micturition reflex, neurogenic bladder and urinary reflex and spinal cord repair was retrieved on CNKI, WanFang Data, PubMed and Web of Science. Chinese and English search terms were “neurogenic bladder; spinal cord injury; micturition reflex; spinal cord repair”. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: In the process of reconstructing the bladder micturition reflex, there are many factors involved, including the repair and reconstruction of the injured spinal cord, the remodeling of micturition center, the changes of bladder tissue and substances and hormones in and out of the body. In this process, there are mainly the following problems: (1) As a complex process, there are many sites involved in the reconstruction of the micturition reflex, so the main sites of action can be selected for in-depth study, so as to break through the doubts existing in the reconstruction of the micturition reflex pathway. (2) The mechanism of the normal micturition reflex is complex. After spinal cord transection injury, whether the central nucleus mass controlling or participating in the micturition reflex is compensated and the corresponding compensatory mechanism needs to be further investigated. (3) Information communication between the center and the bladder is interrupted after spinal cord transection injury. Whether there is a direct information connection between the center and the bladder remains to be further investigated. (4) The relationship between reconstructing micturition reflex and body fluid after spinal cord transection injury needs further study. In the reconstruction of the bladder micturition reflex, the key treatment is to promote spinal cord repair, nerve reflex reconstruction, substance metabolism and bladder tissue structure adjustment through intervention. The droplet deposition methods in Raman spectroscopy have received considerable attention in the field of analytical sensing focusing on effective pre-concentration of the studied analyte (coffee-ring effect or small spots). This review covers different analytical applications of drop-coating deposition Raman scattering (DCDRS) and droplet deposition surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectroscopy. Two main advantages of droplet deposition Raman techniques are considered: the drying-induced segregation of the components from the mixtures (such as body fluids) and the sensitivity of detection of various analytically important molecules. Some recent advanced applications, including clinical cancer diagnosis, are discussed and summarized. Zr-50Ti alloys are promising biomaterials due to their excellent mechanical properties and low magnetic susceptibility. However, Zr-50Ti alloys do not inherently bond well with bone. This study aims to enhance the bioactivity and bonding strength of Zr-50Ti alloys for orthopedic implant materials. Initially, the surface of Zr-50Ti alloys was treated with a sulfuric acid solution to create a microporous structure, increasing surface roughness and area. Subsequently, low crystalline calcium phosphate (L-CaP) precipitation was controlled by adding Mg2+ and/or CO32− ions in modified simulated body fluid (m-SBF). The treated Zr-50Ti alloys were then subjected to cold isostatic pressing to force m-SBF into the micropores, followed by incubation to allow L-CaP formation. The apatite-forming process was tested in simulated body fluid (SBF). The results demonstrated that the incorporation of Mg2+ and/or CO32− ions enabled the L-CaP to cover the entire surface of Zr-50Ti alloys within only one day. After short-term soaking in SBF, the L-CaP layer, modulated by Mg2+ and/or CO32− ions, formed a uniform hydroxyapatite (HA) coating on the surface of the Zr-50Ti alloys, showing potential for optimized bone integration. After soaking in SBF for 14 days, the bonding strength between the apatite layer and alloy has the potential to meet the orthopedic application requirement of 22 MPa. Endometrial cancer (EC) is one of the most common malignant tumors among women in the 21st century, whose mortality rate is increasing every year. Currently, the diagnosis of EC is possible only after a biopsy. However, it is necessary to find a new biomarker that will help in both the diagnosis and treatment of EC in a non-invasive way. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are small, covalently closed spherical and stable long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) molecules, which are abundant in both body fluids and human tissues and are expressed in various ways. Considering the new molecular classification of EC, many studies have appeared, describing new insights into the functions and mechanisms of circRNAs in EC. In this review article, we focused on the problem of EC and the molecular aspects of its division, as well as the biogenesis, functions, and diagnostic and clinical significance of circRNAs in EC. The secreted proteins of human body fluid have the potential to be used as biomarkers for diseases. These biomarkers can be used for early diagnosis and risk prediction of diseases, so the study of secreted proteins of human body fluid has great application value. In recent years, the deep-learning-based transformer language model has transferred from the field of natural language processing (NLP) to the field of proteomics, leading to the development of protein language models (PLMs) for protein sequence representation. Here, we propose a deep learning framework called ESM Predict Secreted Proteins (ESMSec) to predict three types of proteins secreted in human body fluid. The ESMSec is based on the ESM2 model and attention architecture. Specifically, the protein sequence data are firstly put into the ESM2 model to extract the feature information from the last hidden layer, and all the input proteins are encoded into a fixed 1000 × 480 matrix. Secondly, multi-head attention with a fully connected neural network is employed as the classifier to perform binary classification according to whether they are secreted into each body fluid. Our experiment utilized three human body fluids that are important and ubiquitous markers. Experimental results show that ESMSec achieved average accuracy of 0.8486, 0.8358, and 0.8325 on the testing datasets for plasma, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), and seminal fluid, which on average outperform the state-of-the-art (SOTA) methods. The outstanding performance results of ESMSec demonstrate that the ESM can improve the prediction performance of the model and has great potential to screen the secretion information of human body fluid proteins. Biomechanical attributes have emerged as novel markers, providing a reliable means to characterize cellular and subcellular fractions. Numerous studies have identified correlations between these factors and patients' medical status. However, the absence of a thorough overview impedes their applicability in contemporary state-of-the-art therapeutic strategies. In this context, we provide a comprehensive analysis of the dimensions, configuration, rigidity, density, and electrical characteristics of normal and abnormal circulating cells. Subsequently, the discussion broadens to encompass subcellular bioparticles, such as extracellular vesicles (EVs) enriched either from blood cells or other tissues. Notably, cell sizes vary significantly, from 2 μm for platelets to 25 μm for circulating tumor cells (CTCs), enabling the development of size-based separation techniques, such as microfiltration, for specific diagnostic and therapeutic applications. Although cellular density is relatively constant among different circulating bioparticles, it allows for reliable density gradient centrifugation to isolate cells without altering their native state. Additionally, variations in EV surface charges (-6.3 to -45 mV) offer opportunities for electrophoretic and electrostatic separation methods. The distinctive mechanical properties of abnormal cells, compared to their normal counterparts, present an exceptional opportunity for diverse medical and biotechnological approaches. This review also aims to provide a holistic view of the current understanding of popular techniques in this domain that transcend conventional boundaries, focusing on early harvesting of malignant cells from body fluids, designing effective therapeutic options, cell targeting, and resonating with tissue and genetic engineering principles. Background: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is nowadays a major emerging challenge for public health worldwide. The over- and misuse of antibiotics, including those for cell culture, are promoting AMR while also encouraging the research and employment of alternative drugs. The addition of antibiotics to the cell media is strongly recommended in sperm preservation, being gentamicin the most used for boar semen. Because of its continued use, several bacterial strains present in boar semen have developed resistance to this antibiotic. Antimicrobial peptides and proteins (AMPPs) are promising candidates as alternative antibiotics because their mechanism of action is less likely to promote AMR. In the present study, we tested two AMPPs (lysozyme and nisin; 50 and 500 µg/mL) as possible substitutes of gentamicin for boar semen preservation up to 48 h of storage. Results: We found that both AMPPs improved sperm plasma membrane and acrosome integrity during semen storage. The highest concentration tested for lysozyme also kept the remaining sperm parameters unaltered, at 48 h of semen storage, and reduced the bacterial load at comparable levels of the samples supplemented with gentamicin (p > 0.05). On the other hand, while nisin (500 µg/mL) reduced the total Enterobacteriaceae counts, it also decreased the rapid and progressive sperm population and the seminal oxidation-reduction potential (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The protective effect of lysozyme on sperm function together with its antimicrobial activity and inborn presence in body fluids, including semen and cervical mucus, makes this enzyme a promising antimicrobial agent for boar semen preservation. Cerium (Ce) ions exhibit multifunctional biological properties, such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anticancer properties. Consequently, the development of Ce-containing biomaterials with therapeutic characteristics has received considerable research attention. In this study, Ce-doped 13–93 bioactive glass (Ce-BG) was prepared using the conventional melt-quenching method. The physical phases, surface morphologies, elemental contents, and elemental valence states of the samples were analysed. The concentration of the ions released from the samples in deionised water was determined, and their ability to induce hydroxyapatite was evaluated. The photothermal properties were tested by irradiating the samples with an 808 nm laser. The results indicate that an increase in the Ce content within a certain range did not affect the amorphous structure and morphology of the bioactive glass. Ce content variation affected the photothermal effect of Ce-BG. The wet state powder sample could be rapidly heated up to 58.24 °C under 2 W/cm2 laser irradiation at 5 mol% Ce doping, showing the best photothermal performance. Further, bacterial experiments demonstrated the good antimicrobial effect of this sample. Simulated body fluid immersion experiments revealed the ability of the Ce-BG to induce hydroxyapatite production. Furthermore, in vitro cell culture studies showed that the Ce-BG was not toxic to MC3T3-E1 cells and induced cell proliferation after 3 days. Biomarkers that accurately reflect renal function are essential in management of chronic kidney diseases (CKD). However, in children, age/physique and medication often alter established renal biomarkers. We studied whether amino acid enantiomers in body fluids correlate with renal function and whether they are influenced by physique or steroid medication during development. We conducted a prospective study of children 2 to 18 years old with and without CKD. We analyzed associations of serine/asparagine enantiomers in body fluids with major biochemical parameters as well as physique. To study consequences of kidney dysfunction and steroids on serine/asparagine enantiomers, we generated juvenile mice with uninephrectomy, ischemic reperfusion injury, or dexamethasone treatment. We obtained samples from 27 children, of which 12 had CKD due to congenital (n = 7) and perinatal (n = 5) causes. Plasma d-asparagine and the d/l-serine ratio had robust, positive linear associations with serum creatinine and cystatin C, and detected CKD with high sensitivity and specificity, uninfluenced by body size or biochemical parameters. In the animal study, kidney dysfunction increased plasma d-asparagine and the d/l-serine ratio, but dexamethasone treatment did not. Motile cilia on the cell surface produce fluid flows in the body and abnormalities in motile cilia cause primary ciliary dyskinesia. Dynein axonemal assembly factor 6 (DNAAF6), a causative gene of primary ciliary dyskinesia, was isolated as an interacting protein with La ribonucleoprotein 6 (LARP6) that regulates ciliogenesis in multiciliated cells (MCCs). In MCCs of Xenopus embryos, LARP6 and DNAAF6 were colocalized in biomolecular condensates termed dynein axonemal particles and synergized to control ciliogenesis. Moreover, tubulin alpha 1c–like mRNA encoding α-tubulin protein, that is a major component of ciliary axoneme, was identified as a target mRNA regulated by binding LARP6. While DNAAF6 was necessary for high α-tubulin protein expression near the apical side of Xenopus MCCs during ciliogenesis, its mutant, which abolishes binding with LARP6, was unable to restore the expression of α-tubulin protein near the apical side of MCCs in Xenopus DNAAF6 morphant. These results indicated that the binding of LARP6 and DNAAF6 in dynein axonemal particles regulates highly expressed α-tubulin protein near the apical side of Xenopus MCCs during ciliogenesis. Bladder cancer (BCa) is the most common malignancy of the urinary system. It has a high recurrence rate and requires longterm follow-up. Significant advances in BCa research have been made in recent years; however, the initial diagnosis and follow-up of BCa relies on cystoscopy, which is an invasive and expensive procedure. Over the past decade, liquid biopsies (e.g., blood and urine) have proven to be highly efficient methods for the discovery of BCa biomarkers. This noninvasive sampling method is used to analyze unique tumor components released into body fluids and enables serial sampling and longitudinal monitoring of tumor progression. Several liquid biopsy biomarkers have been studied extensively and have shown promising results in the clinical applications of BCa, including early detection, microscopic residual disease detection, recurrence prediction, and treatment response. The epithelial Na+ channel (ENaC) γ subunit is essential for homeostasis of Na+, K+, and body fluid. Dual γ subunit cleavage before and after a short inhibitory tract allows dissociation of this tract, increasing channel open probability (PO), in vitro. Cleavage proximal to the tract occurs at a furin recognition sequence (143RKRR146, in the mouse γ subunit). Loss of furin-mediated cleavage prevents in vitro activation of the channel by proteolysis at distal sites. We hypothesized that 143RKRR146 mutation to 143QQQQ146 (γQ4) in 129/Sv mice would reduce ENaC PO, impair flow-stimulated flux of Na+ (JNa) and K+ (JK) in perfused collecting ducts, reduce colonic amiloride-sensitive short-circuit current (ISC), and impair Na+, K+, and body fluid homeostasis. Immunoblot of γQ4/Q4 mouse kidney lysates confirmed loss of a band consistent in size with the furin-cleaved proteolytic fragment. However, γQ4/Q4 male mice on a low Na+ diet did not exhibit altered ENaC PO or flow-induced JNa, though flow-induced JK modestly decreased. Colonic amiloride-sensitive ISC in γQ4/Q4 mice was not altered. γQ4/Q4 males, but not females, exhibited mildly impaired fluid volume conservation when challenged with a low Na+ diet. Blood Na+ and K+ were unchanged on a regular, low Na+, or high K+ diet. These findings suggest that biochemical evidence of γ subunit cleavage should not be used in isolation to evaluate ENaC activity. Furthermore, factors independent of γ subunit cleavage modulate channel PO and the influence of ENaC on Na+, K+, and fluid volume homeostasis in 129/Sv mice, in vivo. In vivo, low Na+ or high K+ diets enhance ENaC proteolysis, and proteolysis is hypothesized to contribute to channel activation in these settings. Using a mouse expressing ENaC with disruption of a key proteolytic cleavage site, this study demonstrates that impaired proteolytic activation of ENaC's γ subunit has little impact upon channel open probability or the ability of mice to adapt to low Na+ or high K+ diets. The horizontal ground heat exchanger has been extensively employed to collect geothermal energy from mine backfill bodies. A novel method for avoiding thermal interference using the thermal influencing radius coupling pipe spacing was investigated. Thermal interference between adjacent heat-transfer pipes can be neglected when D40°C=2R40°C is used as the pipe spacing. The comprehensive impacts of heat-transfer fluid and backfill body on the heat-transfer efficiency and thermal influencing radius of the horizontal single pipe were investigated. The growth ratio of heat-transfer capacity can be as high as 227.3% when thermal conductivity increases from 0.5 kJ/(kg·°C) to 2 kJ/(kg·°C). The heat-transfer capacity increases by 4% for every 1°C reduction in inlet temperature. The thermal influencing radius is significantly influenced by specific heat capacity and thermal conductivity. Simple Summary: Cerebrospinal fluid analysis is an important diagnostic test for a neurological canine patient. For this analysis, the total nucleated cell count and differential cell counts are routinely taken, but both involve time-consuming manual methods. The Sysmex XN-V body fluid mode is a specific setting used for analyzing different body fluids, including cerebrospinal fluid samples, while the deep-learning-based algorithm generated by the Olympus VS200 slide scanner allows recognition and classification of various cell types on scanned slides. In this study, the faster automated methods mentioned above were assessed by comparing them with the manual methods for both the total nucleated and differential cell counts. Manually set gates were used for the Sysmex body fluid mode following incorrect cell classifications recorded when using the predefined settings. This study demonstrates that automated methods may be used for total nucleated cell count assessments in canine cerebrospinal fluid samples, but optimization is still needed for both differential counts. Cerebrospinal fluid analysis is an important diagnostic test when assessing a neurological canine patient. To investigate faster automated methods, in this study, the Sysmex XN-V body fluid mode and the deep-learning-based algorithm generated by the Olympus VS200 slide scanner were compared with the manual methods in 161 canine cerebrospinal fluid samples for the total nucleated cell count and in 65 samples with pleocytosis for the differential counts. Following incorrect gating by the Sysmex body fluid mode, all samples were reanalyzed with manually set gates. The Sysmex body fluid mode then showed a mean bias of 15.19 cells/μL for the total nucleated cell count and mean biases of 4.95% and −4.95% for the two-part differential cell count, while the deep-learning-based algorithm showed mean biases of −7.25%, −0.03% and 7.27% for the lymphocytes, neutrophils and monocytoid cells, respectively. Based on our findings, we propose that the automated Sysmex body fluid mode be used to measure the total nucleated cell count in canine cerebrospinal fluid samples after making adjustments to the predefined settings from the manufacturer. Neutrophils are considered 'first‐line defence' cells as they can be rapidly recruited to the site of the immune response. As key components of non‐specific immune mechanisms, neutrophils use phagocytosis, degranulation, and formation of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) to fight pathogens. Recently, immunoregulatory abilities of neutrophils associated with the secretion of several mediators, including cytokines and extracellular vesicles (EVs) containing, among other components, microRNAs (miRNAs), have also been reported. EVs are small structures released by cells into the extracellular space and are present in all body fluids. Microvesicles show the composition and status of the releasing cell, its physiological state, and pathological changes. Currently, EVs have gained immense scientific interest as they act as transporters of epigenetic information in intercellular communication. This review summarises findings from recent scientific reports that have evaluated the utility of miRNA molecules as biomarkers for effective diagnostics or even as start‐points for new therapeutic strategies in neutrophil‐mediated immune reactions. Metals like iron, zinc and magnesium are gaining the attention of researchers in the field of biomedical implants owing to their good mechanical and biodegradable properties. However, there are various problems associated with each of these materials like very fast or very slow degradation rate, stress shielding, poor mechanical properties, etc. These problems could be resolved by fabricating composite and functional biomaterials, combining the advantages of two or more materials into single biomaterial. However, till date no process has been developed to fabricate topologically ordered and functionally graded composite biodegradable implants. The present work focuses on the development of a novel approach utilizing 3D printing, pressureless microwave sintering and casting to fabricate topologically ordered and functionally graded composite biodegradable implants. Four different kinds of composite biomaterials were fabricated by combining iron, hydroxyapatite and zinc with density and porosity varying in range of 1.95–5.36 g/cm3 and 28.37–73.99%, respectively. Dimensional deviation in fabricated samples as compared to designed dimensions was found to be in range of 10.33–18.44%. Compression tests were performed for all fabricated samples, and compressive strength and modulus of elasticity were found to vary from 17.62 to 102.32 MPa and 186.12 to 2452.20 MPa, respectively. The corrosion analysis of fabricated samples was done to evaluate the degradation behaviour in simulated body fluid. The degradation rate was found to be varying in range of 1.68–4.33 mm/year. Bioactive scaffolds based on the 14.6Li 2 O⋅8.6ZrO 2 ⋅67.3SiO 2 ⋅9.5Al 2 O 3 glass-ceramic for use in drug delivery is presented. Powders of the parent glass (212 mm > particle size >38 mm) were heat-treated at 725 °C for 3 h for surface crystallization. They were subjected to a chemical attack with 6 vol% of hydrofluoric acid for 40 s for partial dissolution of the residual glass, and washed with deionised water and calcium carbonate. Structural and microstructural analyses were performed to identify the formed crystalline phases and porosity. Mesopores with 2.05 nm-radius were detected. The immersion method was used to insert alendronate sodium into the scaffolds. The drug delivering capability was evaluated by infrared spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis (TG). The FTIR spectra showed the typical functional groups existing in the alendronate sodium, confirming their impregnation into the scaffold's pores. Moreover, the TG thermograms showed loss weights of ∼2% indicating the effective inoculation of the drug into the scaffold. The bioactivity of the material was evaluated through calcium phosphate layer formation after incubation in a simulated body fluid for up to 28 days (37 ± 1 °C) and then analysed by infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Calcium phosphates were identified after 24 h of immersion indicating the bioactivity of the glass-ceramic. The cytotoxicity and hemocompatibility tests showed that the LZSA glass-ceramic scaffold is not considered toxic to the human body at concentrations below 40 μg/mL and does not show hemolytic effects at all tested concentrations. Reaching high densification upon sintering β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) has always been challenging. Its combination with bioactive glass (BG) is a common strategy to increase its densification, but still highly limited due to phase transformation. Cold sintering process (CSP) has gained attention in the search for alternatives to traditional sintering (TS), but the number of bioceramics explored is still limited. Thus, the main goal of this work was to use S53P4 BG as a sintering agent of β-TCP in CSP. Pellets of β-TCP/S53P4 (0, 30, and 60 wt%) were consolidated by CSP at 200 °C while being pressed at 166 MPa and compared with pellets sintered by TS at 1200 °C. Whereas β-TCP pellets showed no densification by CSP, the addition of 30 and 60 wt% S53P4 led to a significative increase in their density, of 76 ± 4% and 85 ± 3%, equivalent to the pellets consolidated by TS. CSP pellets were consolidated without showing the crystallization of S53P4 and presented a highly densified microstructure. Both CSP and TS pellets showed apatite formation in simulated body fluid (SBF) after 7 and 14 days. Thus, CSP has shown to be a promising alternative to TS when consolidating β-TCP/S53P4. We previously reported that sodium–glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors exert sustained fluid homeostatic actions through compensatory increases in osmotic diuresis-induced vasopressin secretion and fluid intake. However, SGLT2 inhibitors alone do not produce durable amelioration of fluid retention. In this study, we examined the comparative effects of the SGLT2 inhibitor dapagliflozin (SGLT2i group, n = 53) and the combined use of dapagliflozin and conventional diuretics, including loop diuretics and/or thiazides (SGLT2i + diuretic group, n = 23), on serum copeptin, a stable, sensitive, and simple surrogate marker of vasopressin release and body fluid status. After six months of treatment, the change in copeptin was significantly lower in the SGLT2i + diuretic group than in the SGLT2i group (−1.4 ± 31.5% vs. 31.5 ± 56.3%, p = 0.0153). The change in the estimated plasma volume calculated using the Strauss formula was not significantly different between the two groups. Contrastingly, changes in interstitial fluid, extracellular water, intracellular water, and total body water were significantly lower in the SGLT2i + diuretic group than in the SGLT2i group. Changes in renin, aldosterone, and absolute epinephrine levels were not significantly different between the two groups. In conclusion, the combined use of the SGLT2 inhibitor dapagliflozin and conventional diuretics inhibited the increase in copeptin levels and remarkably ameliorated fluid retention without excessively reducing plasma volume and activating the renin–angiotensin–aldosterone and sympathetic nervous systems. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) involving superoxide anion, hydrogen peroxide and hydroxyl radical play important role in human health. ROS are known to be the markers of oxidative stress associated with different pathologies including neurodegenerative and cardiovascular diseases, as well as cancer. Accordingly, ROS level detection in biological systems is an essential problem for biomedical and analytical research. Electrochemical methods seem to have promising prospects in ROS determination due to their high sensitivity, rapidity, and simple equipment. This review demonstrates application of modern electrochemical sensors for ROS detection in biological objects (e.g., cell lines and body fluids) over a decade between 2011 and 2021. Particular attention is paid to sensors materials and various types of modifiers for ROS selective detection. Background: Beta‐2 transferrin (B2‐Tf) gel electrophoresis (GE) is the preferred non‐invasive diagnostic modality for confirming cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in body fluids. While B2‐Tf GE testing is highly sensitive and specific for CSF, false‐positive (FP) and false‐negative (FN) results can lead to diagnostic and therapeutic dilemmas. Several series have demonstrated potential causes of false B2‐Tf GE results, but few studies have reported reasons for these errors. The purpose of this systematic review was to describe sources of B2‐Tf GE errors. Methods: A systematic review was performed by searching OVID, EMBASE, and Web of Science databases for B2‐Tf GE studies. After applying exclusion criteria, original research studies directly addressing erroneous B2‐Tf GE results underwent qualitative analysis. Results: Of the 243 abstracts screened, 71 underwent full‐text review and 18 studies reporting B2‐Tf GE errors were included for analysis. There were 15 potential FPs, 12 actual FPs, 12 potential FNs, 19 actual FNs, and 14 indeterminate results. There were also 246 potentially indeterminate results from in vitro studies. Reasons for B2‐Tf GE errors included serum transferrin alterations (n = 17; all potential), infection related (n = 13; 9 potential), orbital or salivary contamination (n = 2; 1 potential), and collection related (n = 255; 246 potential). There were 31 false or indeterminate results with unspecified reasons. There were no reported errors due to laboratory processing. Conclusions: Multiple potential or actual reasons for false or indeterminate results have been reported for B2‐Tf GE testing of rhinorrhea and otorrhea. Simple Summary: BET proteins (BRD2, BRD3, BRD4 and BRDT) serve as the readers of DNA acetylation and regulate the expression of key genes in cancer. BET inhibitors were recently developed and have shown efficacy in Phase I/II clinical trials in ovarian cancer. The most thoroughly studied BET protein is BRD4, which is amplified in ~18–19% of ovarian cancer cases according to The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). We explored the prognostic role of the BRD4 gene and protein expression in advanced high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSC). Low BRD4 gene expression was associated with shorter overall survival compared to intermediate/high BRD4 gene expression at 12 months (95% CI; 1.75–30.49; p = 0.008). Low BRD4 gene expression was also associated with worse progression-free survival (PFS) both at 12 months (95% CI; 1.2–16.5; p = 0.03) and at 24 months (95% CI; 1.1–8.6; p = 0.048). There was no significant association between BRD4 protein expression and overall survival. BRD4 is the most thoroughly studied member of the BET family and regulates the expression of key oncogenes. BRD4 gene amplification has been identified in ovarian cancer (~18–19%) according to The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) analysis. BET inhibitors are novel small molecules that displace BET proteins from acetylated histones and are currently tested in Phase I/II trials. We here aim to explore the prognostic role of the BRD4 gene and protein expression in the ascitic fluid of patients with advanced FIGO III/IV high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma (HGSC). Methods: Ascitic fluid was obtained from 28 patients with advanced stage (FIGO III/IV) HGSC through diagnostic/therapeutic paracentesis or laparoscopy before the initiation of chemotherapy. An amount of ~200 mL of ascitic fluid was collected from each patient and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were isolated. Each sample was evaluated for BRD4 and GAPDH gene expression through RT-qPCR and BRD4 protein levels through enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The study protocol was approved by the Institutional Review Board of Alexandra University Hospital and the Committee on Ethics and Good Practice (CEGP) of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). Results: Low BRD4 gene expression was associated with worse prognosis at 12 months compared to intermediate/high expression (95% CI; 1.75–30.49; p = 0.008). The same association was observed at 24 months although this association was not statistically significant (95% CI; 0.96–9.2; p = 0.065). Progression-free survival was shorter in patients with low BRD4 gene expression at 12 months (5.6 months; 95% CI; 2.6–8.6) compared to intermediate/high expression (9.8 months; 95% CI; 8.3–11.3) (95% CI; 1.2–16.5; p = 0.03). The same association was confirmed at 24 months (6.9 months vs. 13.1 months) (95% CI; 1.1–8.6; p = 0.048). There was a trend for worse prognosis in patients with high BRD4 protein levels versus intermediate/low BRD4 protein expression both at 12 months (9.8 months vs. 7.6 months; p = 0.3) and at 24 months (14.2 months vs. 16.6 months; p = 0.56) although not statistically significant. Again, there was a trend for shorter PFS in patients with high BRD4 protein expression although not statistically significant both at 12 months (p = 0.29) and at 24 months (p = 0.47). Conclusions: There are contradictory data in the literature over the prognostic role of BRD4 gene expression in solid tumors. In our study, intermediate/high BRD4 gene expression was associated with a favorable prognosis in terms of overall survival and progression-free survival compared to low BRD4 gene expression. Background: Ischaemic heart disease, including myocardial infarction, is one of the main causes leading to heart failure as a consequence of ischaemic myocardial damage. In recent years, survival in the acute phase of myocardial infarction has improved significantly, but the high mortality rate within 12 months of hospital discharge (reaching up to 9.8% in Poland) remains a challenge. Therefore, the KOS-Zawał (MC-AMI) comprehensive 12-month post-MI care programme was introduced in Poland in 2017. Aim: This study aimed to assess body composition (including, but not limited to, the phase angle, visceral fat, total body fat, redistribution between intracellular and extracellular fluid in the body, and metabolic age) using a bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) in post-MI patients before and after early post-MI rehabilitation who were participating in the KOS-Zawał (MC-AMI) programme. Methods: This study involved an examination (before rehabilitation) of 94 post-myocardial infarction patients who were referred to a cardiology appointment within 7–10 days of hospital discharge, during which a clinical assessment, electrocardiogram, and biochemical blood tests (complete blood count, CRP, and serum creatinine) were performed. For various reasons (death, qualification for device implantation, non-completion of rehabilitation, failure to attend a follow-up BIA), data from 55 patients who were examined twice (before and after rehabilitation) were used for the final analysis. Measurements were taken using a high-grade Tanita MC-780 BIA body composition analyser, which measured the resistance of tissues to a low-intensity electrical impulse (not perceptible to the subject). Results: Participation in rehabilitation as part of the KOS-Zawał (MC-AMI) programme was associated with a decrease in metabolic age in patients, with a reduction in visceral fat levels and levels of adipose tissue in the lower and upper limbs. Moreover, a clinically beneficial reduction in the ratio of extracellular water to total body water was also observed. These changes were statistically significant (p < 0.005). In contrast, there were no statistically significant differences in the change in phase angle values in the subjects before and after the 5-week post-infarction rehabilitation. Conclusions: Participation in early post-myocardial infarction rehabilitation as part of the KOS-Zawał (MC-AMI) programme (25 training sessions) is associated with significant improvements in body composition parameters, such as visceral adipose tissue, limb fat, and water redistribution, and, consequently, a reduction in metabolic age, despite no significant increase in phase angle values. It was hypothesised that the good baseline condition of the subjects might explain the lack of significant change in the phase angle over the short observation period. For further analysis, it would be worthwhile to increase the number of patients with baseline reduced phase angle values and monitor changes in this parameter throughout rehabilitation and the entire MC-AMI programme, because changes in the phase angle may also be influenced by other programme components such as dietary or psychological education. It is worth considering implementing a regular BIA assessment in patients in the programme as a motivating stimulus for diligent exercise and extending rehabilitation to be followed by telerehabilitation or hybrid telerehabilitation. This article is dedicated to the derivation of a two-dimensional system of moment equations depending on the velocity of movement and the surface temperature of a body submerged in fluid, and macroscopic boundary conditions for the system of moment equations approximating the Maxwell microscopic boundary condition for the particle distribution function. The initial-boundary value problem for the Boltzmann equation with the Maxwell microscopic boundary condition is approximated by a corresponding problem for the system of moment equations with macroscopic boundary conditions. The number of moment equations and the number of macroscopic boundary conditions are interconnected and depend on the parity of the approximation of the system of moment equations. The setting of the initial-boundary value problem for a non-stationary, nonlinear two-dimensional system of moment equations in the first approximation with macroscopic boundary conditions is presented, and the solvability of the above-mentioned problem in the space of functions continuous in time and square-integrable in spatial variables is proven. Background: Biomaterials used in bone tissue engineering must fulfill the requirements of osteoconduction, osteoinduction, and osseointegration. However, biomaterials with good osteoconductive properties face several challenges, including inadequate vascularization, limited osteoinduction and barrier ability, as well as the potential to trigger immune and inflammatory responses. Therefore, there is an urgent need to develop guided bone regeneration membranes as a crucial component of tissue engineering strategies for repairing bone defects. Methods: The mZIF-8/PLA membrane was prepared using electrospinning technology and simulated body fluid external mineralization method. Its ability to induce biomimetic mineralization was evaluated through TEM, EDS, XRD, FT-IR, zeta potential, and wettability techniques. The biocompatibility, osteoinduction properties, and osteo-immunomodulatory effects of the mZIF-8/PLA membrane were comprehensively evaluated by examining cell behaviors of surface-seeded BMSCs and macrophages, as well as the regulation of cellular genes and protein levels using PCR and WB. In vivo, the mZIF-8/PLA membrane's potential to promote bone regeneration and angiogenesis was assessed through Micro-CT and immunohistochemical staining. Results: The mineralized deposition enhances hydrophilicity and cell compatibility of mZIF-8/PLA membrane. mZIF-8/PLA membrane promotes up-regulation of osteogenesis and angiogenesis related factors in BMSCs. Moreover, it induces the polarization of macrophages towards the M2 phenotype and modulates the local immune microenvironment. After 4-weeks of implantation, the mZIF-8/PLA membrane successfully bridges critical bone defects and almost completely repairs the defect area after 12-weeks, while significantly improving the strength and vascularization of new bone. Microribonucleic acids (miRNAs) have emerged as a new category of biomarkers for many human diseases like cancer, cardiovascular and neurodegenerative disorders. MicroRNAs can be detected in various body fluids including blood, urine and cerebrospinal fluid. However, the literature contains conflicting results for circulating miRNAs, which is the main barrier to using miRNAs as non-invasive biomarkers. This variability in results is largely due to differences between studies in sample processing methodology, miRNA quantification and result normalization. The purpose of this review is to describe the various preanalytical, analytical and postanalytical factors that can impact miRNA detection accuracy and to propose recommendations for the standardization of circulating miRNAs measurement. In this work, hybrid reinforced epoxy biopolymer composites were developed using natural hydroxyapatite and zinc oxide (nHAp/ZnO). The epoxy was reinforced with varying addition of nHAp and ZnO in the steps of 3, 5 and 7 wt. % respectively using stir casting molding process. The developed composites were immersed in simulated body fluid (SBF) at 37oC to determine their bioactivity. Microstructure evaluation using scanning electron microscopy was also used to assess the morphology of the developed composites before and after in vitro test, respectively. The microstructure evaluation in vitro showed good deposition of white-like layers on the surface indicating good bioactivity reaction with the SBF and affirm that the developed biopolymers will react well with living tissue when used in vivo. RNAs have attracted much attention in forensic body fluid/tissue identification (BFID) due to their tissue-specific expression characteristics. Among RNAs, long RNAs (e.g., mRNA) have a higher probability of containing more polymorphic sites that can be used to assign the specific donor of the body fluid/tissue. However, few studies have characterized their overall profiles in forensic science. In this study, we sequenced the transcriptomes of 30 samples from venous blood, menstrual blood, semen, saliva, vaginal secretion, and skin tissue, obtaining a comprehensive picture of mRNA, lncRNA, and circRNA profiles. A total of 90,305 mRNAs, 102,906 lncRNAs (including 19,549 novel lncRNAs), and 40,204 circRNAs were detected. RNA type distribution, length distribution, and expression distribution were presented according to their annotation and expression level, and many novel body fluid/tissue-specific RNA markers were identified. Furthermore, the cognate relations among the three RNAs were analyzed according to gene annotations. Finally, SNPs and InDels from RNA transcripts were genotyped, and 21,611 multi-SNP and 4,471 multi-InDel transcriptomic microhaplotypes (tMHs) were identified. These results provide a comprehensive understanding of transcriptome profiles, which could provide new avenues for tracing the origin of the body fluid/tissue and identifying an individual. Analyzing all biological evidence at a crime scene presents serious time, budget, and labor constraints. Therefore, selecting valid evidence is crucial for efficient screening. The ABO blood group is a marker that can serve as valid evidence for identifying investigative leads in criminal case. Conventional identification of ABO blood groups using serological methods has only been for blood and is difficult to apply to other body fluids. ABO genotyping was conducted by analyzing single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) representative of each blood group. However, this method is time-consuming, expensive, and requires sophisticated instruments. In this study, we developed rapid ABO genotyping method using loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) and multiplex real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Three SNP sites in the ABO gene (nt 261, 526, and 803) were selected to classify the ABO genotypes. For the specificity test, we performed sequencing of 60 saliva samples to confirm that the genotyping. We conducted experiments to apply ABO genotyping using two amplification methods to mock forensic sample using cotton swab and filter paper. As a result, using LAMP, we successfully identified six ABO genotypes within 30 min at a constant temperature (65 ℃). Moreover, by using multiple real-time PCR, it was possible to detect not only the major group but also the subgroup of the ABO genotype (ex. cis-AB). The amplification results using the new methods were in concordance with the sequencing results. The identification of the type of body fluid in crime scene evidence may be crucial, so that the efforts are high to reduce the complexity of these analyses and to minimize time and costs. Reliable immunochromatographic rapid tests for specific and sensitive identification of blood, saliva, urine and sperm secretions are already routinely used in forensic genetics. The recently introduced Seratec® PMB test is said to detect not only hemoglobin, but also differentiate menstrual blood from other secretions containing blood (cells) by detecting D-dimers. In our experimental set-up, menstrual blood could be reliably detected in mock forensic samples. Here, the result was independent of sample age and extraction buffer volume. It was also successfully demonstrated that all secretions without blood cells were negative for both, hemoglobin (P) and D-dimer (M). However, several blood cell–containing secretions/tissues comprising blood (injury), nasal blood, postmortem blood and wound crust also demonstrated positive results for D-dimer (M) and were therefore false positives. For blood (injury) and nasal blood, this result was reproduced for different extraction buffer volumes. The results of this study clearly demonstrate that the Seratec® PMB test is neither useful nor suitable for use in forensic genetics because of the great risk of false positive results which can lead to false conclusions, especially in sexual offense or violent acts. Cardiovascular disease has become a common ailment that endangers human health, having garnered widespread attention due to its high prevalence, recurrence rate, and sudden death risk. Ginseng possesses functions such as invigorating vital energy, enhancing vein recovery, promoting body fluid and blood nourishment, calming the nerves, and improving cognitive function. It is widely utilized in the treatment of various heart conditions, including palpitations, chest pain, heart failure, and other ailments. Although numerous research reports have investigated the cardiovascular activity of single ginsenoside, there remains a lack of systematic research on the specific components group that predominantly contribute to cardiovascular efficacy in ginseng medicinal materials. In this research, the spectrum–effect relationship, target cell extraction, and BP neural network classification were used to establish a rapid screening system for potential active substances. The results show that red ginseng extract (RGE) can improve the decrease in cell viability and ATP content and inhibit the increase in ROS production and LDH release in OGD-induced H9c2 cells. A total of 70 ginsenosides were identified in RGE using HPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS analysis. Chromatographic fingerprints were established for 12 batches of RGE by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). A total of 36 common ingredients were found in 12 batches of RGE. The cell viability, ATP, ROS, and LDH of 12 batches RGE were tested to establish gray relationship analysis (GRA) and partial least squares discrimination analysis (PLS-DA). BP neural network classification and target cell extraction were used to narrow down the scope of Spectral efficiency analysis and screen the potential active components. According to the cell experiments, RGE can improve the cell viability and ATP content and reduce the oxidative damage. Then, seven active ingredients, namely, Ginsenoside Rg1, Rg2, Rg3, Rb1, Rd, Re, and Ro, were screened out, and their cardiovascular activity was confirmed in the OGD model. The seven ginsenosides were the main active substances of red ginseng in treating myocardial injury. This study offers a reference for quality control in red ginseng and preparations containing red ginseng for the management of cardiovascular diseases. Sexual problems are common complaints across countries and cultures, and behavioral immune system theory suggests disgust plays an essential role in sexual functioning. The current study investigated 1) if disgust induced by sexual body fluids would reduce sexual arousal, reduce the likelihood of sexual engagement, and enhance disgust toward subsequent erotic stimuli, and 2) if the administration of ginger would affect these reactions. We administered either ginger or placebo pills to a sample of 247 participants (Mage = 21.59, SD = 2.52; 122 women) and asked them to complete either behavioral approach tasks with sexual body fluids or with neutral fluids. Next, participants viewed and responded to questions concerning erotic stimuli (nude and seminude pictures of opposite-sex models). As expected, the sexual body fluids tasks induced disgust. The elevated disgust induced by sexual body fluids tasks resulted in lower sexual arousal in women, whereas ginger consumption counteracted this inhibiting effect of disgust on sexual arousal. Disgust elicited by sexual body fluids also increased disgust toward the subsequent erotic stimuli. Ginger increased sexual arousal toward the erotic stimuli in both men and women who had completed the neutral fluids tasks. Findings provide further evidence of the role of disgust in sexual problems, and, importantly, that ginger may improve the sexual function of individuals via its sexual arousal-enhancing effect. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the intracellular and extracellular volume before and after anesthesia in order to ascertain their variations and determine the potential utility of this information in optimizing intraoperative fluid administration practices. A bioimpedance spectroscopy device (body composition monitor, BCM) was used to measure total body fluid volume, extracellular volume, and intracellular volume. BCM measurements were performed before and after general anesthesia in unselected healthy children and adolescents visiting the Pediatric Institute of Southern Switzerland for low-risk surgical procedures hydrated with an isotonic solution. In 100 children and adolescents aged 7.0 (4.8–11) years (median and interquartile range), the average total body water increased perioperatively with a delta value of 182 (0–383) mL/m2 from pre- to postoperatively, as well as the extracellular water content, which had a similar increase with a delta value of 169 (19–307) mL/m2. The changes in total body water and extracellular water content significantly correlated with the amount of fluids administered. The intracellular water content did not significantly change. Conclusion: Intraoperative administration of isotonic solutions results in a significant fluid accumulation in low-risk schoolchildren during general anesthesia. The results suggest that children without major health problems undergoing short procedures do not need any perioperative intravenous fluid therapy, because they are allowed to take clear fluids up to 1 h prior anesthesia. In future studies, the use of BCM measurements has the potential to be valuable in guiding intraoperative fluid therapy. Titanium implants, widely used in orthopedic and dental applications, often face challenges due to inadequate osseointegration and the risk of postoperative infections, which can potentially lead to implant failure. To address this issue, we developed a titanium implant with an in-situ fabricated anatase TiO 2 metasurface, characterized by a subwavelength thickness and a preferential orientation of the (001) facets. This metasurface, which consists of uniformly distributed nano-crystallites of approximately 30 nm in size, aims to enhance both osseointegration and antibacterial properties. The addition of isopropanol (IPA) to the precursor solution used in the fabrication process played a crucial role in controlling the grain size and coating thickness of the metasurface. This process led to a redshift of the light absorption peak into the near-infrared (NIR)-II region, thereby increasing the penetration depth of photothermal therapy. The implants with TiO 2 metasurface exhibited increased hydrophilicity, rapid apatite formation in simulated body fluid, and an effective photothermal response under NIR-II light, showing significant antibacterial activity against E. coli and S. aureus. In vivo experiments in rabbits indicated superior bone regeneration and osseointegration around the implants with TiO 2 metasurface compared to the control titanium implants. At 4 weeks postoperatively, the bone volume to tissue volume (BV/TV) ratio within the implant was 53.94 %, and by 8 weeks, the implants were nearly entirely filled with new bone, with a BV/TV ratio of approximately 70 %. The findings suggest that the TiO 2 metasurface, which combines antibacterial and bioactive features, has the potential to reduce the risk of postoperative infections and improve clinical outcomes. Transporter research primarily relies on the canonical substrates of well-established transporters. This approach has limitations when studying transporters for the low-abundant micromolecules, such as micronutrients, and may not reveal physiological functions of the transporters. While d-serine, a trace enantiomer of serine in the circulation, was discovered as an emerging biomarker of kidney function, its transport mechanisms in the periphery remain unknown. Here, using a multi-hierarchical approach from body fluids to molecules, combining multi-omics, cell-free synthetic biochemistry, and ex vivo transport analyses, we have identified two types of renal d-serine transport systems. We revealed that the small amino acid transporter ASCT2 serves as a d-serine transporter previously uncharacterized in the kidney and discovered d-serine as a non-canonical substrate of the sodium-coupled monocarboxylate transporters (SMCTs). These two systems are physiologically complementary, but ASCT2 dominates the role in the pathological condition. Our findings not only shed light on renal d-serine transport, but also clarify the importance of non-canonical substrate transport. The detection of biomolecules utilizing surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is highly trending in research, but the unlabeled and sensitive detection of saccharides in body fluids is challenging. Here, a novel SERS substrate (AgNS600) is fabricated by physical scratching of smooth silver sheets, which successfully achieves enhanced SERS fingerprinting by capturing glucose molecules through nanoscale grooves on the surface of the substrate to form multi-dimensional "hot spot" regions. The platform proves to be rapid, reliable, and reproducible, with a lower detection limit of 0.5 amol L-1 in deionized water. Further detection of multiple monosaccharides, polysaccharides, and mix samples, which are distinguished with machine learning and heat map, demonstrates the versatility and specificity of the platform. Importantly, real samples are explored and the results show that the platform is able to detect and recognize SERS signals of glucose in the blood, urine, tears, and perspiration, and non-destructive predict diabetes by analyzing the signal intensity of different characteristic peaks. In this work, it is the first non-chemical, unlabeled determination of glucose with high sensitivity via SERS, which provides a potential strategy for advancing the clinical development of SERS technology and the early diagnosis of glucose metabolic diseases.
