Bang Jian has a long-standing history of medicinal use, noted for its detoxifying effects and the treatment of various fevers, laryngitis, and thermal illnesses. Presently, Gentiana veitchiorum and G. szechenyii are the predominant varieties utilized. However, comparative data on their chemical compositions remains scarce. In this study, employing UPLC-Q-TOF/MS metabolomics, conducted a comprehensive comparison of the chemical constituents in G. veitchiorum and G. szechenyii and assessed their antioxidant activities. Results indicated both varieties exhibit significant antioxidant capabilities, with G. szechenyii displaying superior efficacy. The IC50 values for DPPH, Hydroxyl, and ABTS in G. szechenyii were determined to be 0.16, 0.48, and 0.80 mg/mL, respectively. Through UPLC-Q-TOF/MS, 56 compounds were identified, revealing notable differences in metabolite composition between the two species. 24 differential metabolites were identified as potential chemometric markers, facilitating the accurate differentiation of G. veitchiorum and G. szechenyii. Correlation analyses identified six compounds—depressine, szechenyin A, syringic acid, isoorientin-2′'-O-glucopyranoside, isoscoparin 2″-O-glucoside, and naringenin—as significant to the variance in antioxidant activity. These findings enhance our understanding of the phytochemical and antioxidant properties of G. veitchiorum and G. szechenyii, offering a theoretical foundation for their clinical application.

The discovery of novel botanical pesticides as a preferred alternative to synthetic pesticides is regarded as an environmentally friendly strategy, yet it remains a great challenge due to limited insights into the synthesis and accumulation of active ingredient intermediates. Herein, we demonstrate the use of gold nanoparticle (AuNP)-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry imaging (LDI-MSI) for the tissue-specific distribution and spatiotemporal accumulation effect of rotenone and active ingredient intermediates in its biosynthetic pathway within the roots of Derris elliptica. The MSI results revealed that rotenone was mainly concentrated in the epidermis, cortex, and xylem in the first two years and began to accumulate in the phloem since the 3rd year. Meanwhile, the rotenone contents increased in the epidermis, cortex, and xylem in the 4th year and finally decreased in the 5th year. The ultra-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) results revealed that there was a significant difference in rotenone content between the root and non-root bark (p < 0.05) except for the 1st year. It reached its maximum value at 9.71% in the root bark in the 4th year and 7.98% in the non-root bark in the 1st year, which was in accordance with the MSI results. Additionally, the active ingredient intermediates in the Hydroxylation/Methylation and Rotenoid Phases of the biosynthetic pathway of rotenone were concentrated in the root region. Taken together, the collective results provide the scientific guidance for the scientific cultivation of D. elliptica and the efficient extraction of botanical pesticides.

During the development of animal organs, various adverse stimuli or toxic environments can induce oxidative stress and delay ovarian development. Paeoniflorin (PF), the main active ingredient of the traditional Chinese herb Paeonia lactiflora Pall., has protective effects on various diseases by preventing oxidative stress. However, the mechanism by which PF attenuates oxidative damage in mouse ovaries remains unclear. We evaluated the protective effects of PF on ovaries in an H2O2-induced mouse oxidative stress model. The H2O2-induced mouse ovarian oxidative stress model was used to explore the protective effect of PF on ovarian development. Histology and follicular development were observed. We then detected related indicators of cell apoptosis, oxidative stress, and autophagy in mouse ovaries. We found that PF inhibited H2O2-induced ovarian cell apoptosis and ferroptosis and promoted granulosa cell proliferation. PF prevented oxidative stress by increasing nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) expression levels. In addition, the autophagic flux of ovarian cells was activated and was accompanied by increased lysosomal biogenesis. Moreover, PF-mediated autophagy was involved in clearing mitochondria damaged by H2O2. Importantly, PF administration significantly increased the number of primordial follicles, primary follicles, secondary follicles, and antral follicles. PF administration improved ovarian sizes compared with the H2O2 group. The present study suggested that PF administration reversed H2O2-induced ovarian developmental delay and promoted follicle development. PF-activated mitophagy is crucial for preventing oxidative stress and improving mitochondrial quality.

Deep neural networks have played a crucial role in the field of deep learning, achieving significant success in practical applications. The architecture of neural networks is key to their performance. In the past few years, these architectures have been manually designed by experts with rich domain knowledge. Additionally, the optimal neural network architecture can vary depending on specific tasks and data distributions. Neural Architecture Search (NAS) is a class of techniques aimed at automatically searching for and designing neural network architectures according to the given tasks and data. Specifically, evolutionary-computation-based NAS methods are known for their strong global search capability and have aroused widespread interest in recent years. Although evolutionary-computation-based NAS has achieved success in a wide range of research and applications, it still faces bottlenecks in training and evaluating a large number of individuals during optimization. In this study, we first devise a multi-objective evolutionary NAS framework based on a weight-sharing supernet to improve the search efficiency of traditional evolutionary-computation-based NAS. This framework combines the population optimization characteristic of evolutionary algorithms with the weight-sharing ideas in one-shot models. We then design a bi-population MOEA/D algorithm based on the proposed framework to effectively solve the NAS problem. By constructing two sub-populations with different optimization objectives, the algorithm can effectively explore network architectures of various sizes in complex search spaces. An inter-population communication mechanism further enhances the algorithm’s exploratory capability, enabling it to find network architectures with uniform distribution and high diversity. Finally, we conduct performance comparison experiments on image classification datasets of different scales and complexities. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed multi-objective evolutionary NAS framework and the practicality and transferability of the introduced bi-population MOEA/D-based NAS method compared to existing state-of-the-art NAS methods.

We proposed a novel method for predicting the service life of optical cables based on the Autoformer model combined with the calculation method. Leveraging historical weather data from Guangzhou and employing specific cable length calculation techniques, our study comprehensively considers factors impacting cable lifespan. Moreover, through comparative analysis with alternative deep learning models and parameter assessments, our method validates the superiority and stability of the Autoformer model in predicting cable lifespan, which can offer a more reliable approach for ensuring cable technology reliability and the management of associated industries.

Abstract Organic donor‐acceptor semiconductors exhibit great potential in photothermal conversion. However, it is still challenging to achieve pure organic materials with broad absorption comparable with inorganic materials such as graphene. Herein, two D‐A‐D type DPA‐BT‐O4 and NDI‐TPA‐O4 and three D‐A‐π‐A‐D type Th‐O4, Th2‐O4, and IDT‐O4 were readily prepared via two high‐yield steps and simple air oxidization. The stability can be attributed to their multiple resonance structures based on the aromatic nitric acid radical mechanism. Compared with the D‐A‐D radicals, the conjugation extension of the D‐A‐π‐A‐D radicals endows them with a narrowed band gap and broad absorption in powder. Interestingly, the IDT‐O4 powder with aggregation‐induced radical effect exhibits broad absorption between 300 and 2500 nm, which is comparable with graphene and other inorganic materials. Under irradiation of 0.9 W/cm2 (808 nm), the temperature of IDT‐O4 powder rises to 250°C within 60 s. The water evaporation conversion efficiency of 94.38 % and an evaporation rate of 1.365 kg/m2 h−1 under one sun illumination were achieved. IDT‐O4 stands as one of the most efficient photothermal conversion materials among pure organic materials via a rational design strategy.

The effect of UV-B radiation exposure on transgenerational plasticity, the phenomenon whereby the parental environment influences both the parent’s and the offspring’s phenotype, is poorly understood. To investigate the impact of exposing successive generations of rice plants to UV-B radiation on seed morphology and proanthocyanidin content, the local traditional rice variety ‘Baijiaolaojing’ was planted on terraces in Yuanyang county and subjected to enhanced UV-B radiation treatments. The radiation intensity that caused the maximum phenotypic plasticity (7.5 kJ·m−2) was selected for further study, and the rice crops were cultivated for four successive generations. The results show that in the same generation, enhanced UV-B radiation resulted in significant decreases in grain length, grain width, spike weight, and thousand-grain weight, as well as significant increases in empty grain percentage and proanthocyanidin content, compared with crops grown under natural light conditions. Proanthocyanidin content increased as the number of generations of rice exposed to radiation increased, but in generation G3, it decreased, along with the empty grain ratio. At the same time, biomass, tiller number, and thousand-grain weight increased, and rice growth returned to control levels. When the offspring’s radiation memory and growth environment did not match, rice growth was negatively affected, and seed proanthocyanidin content was increased to maintain seed activity. The correlation analysis results show that phenylalanine ammonialyase (PAL), cinnamate-4-hydroxylase (C4H), dihydroflavonol 4-reductase (DFR), and 4-coumarate:CoA ligase (4CL) enzyme activity positively influenced proanthocyanidin content. Overall, UV-B radiation affected transgenerational plasticity in seed morphology and proanthocyanidin content, showing that rice was able to adapt to this stressor if previous generations had been continuously exposed to treatment.

Various polymers are the most widely used product to provide rheology for water-based fracturing fluid, however, they have weaknesses in terms of temperature resistance and salt resistance. The change from organic-based to inorganic thickeners may be a meaningful attempt. Inorganic silica gel is a potentially alternative viscosifier with high temperature resistance, excellent proppant carrying capacity, and can even be used to prepare fracturing fluids with high salinity of produced water. In this paper, the silica gel viscosifier was firstly prepared using sol–gel method. Then, the gelation time under different influencing factors and rheological properties of the silica gel viscosifier were studied in detail. Subsequently, the silica gel-based fracturing fluid was prepared by adding the desired amount of drag reducer to the silica sol solution, and the properties of novel fracturing fluid were systematically evaluated with regard to the temperature and shearing resistance, drag reduction, and static proppant suspension. The potential mechanism of gelation process by syneresis of silica gel was revealed at last. Results showed that the microstructure of silica gel is synthetic, amorphous and consists of a three-dimensional network of SiO2 particles. The effect of SiO2 concentration on the gelation time is more pronounced than other factors such as temperature and pH level. In addition, the silica gel viscosifier exhibits strong salt resistance, whether monovalent ions (Na+, K+) or divalent ions (Ca2+, Mg2+), and the gelation time decreased significantly with the increase of salt concentration. The shear viscosity of the silica gel viscosifier increased with an increase of SiO2 concentration, showing shear thinning behavior as well. Meanwhile, the silica gel-based fracturing fluid prepared by adding drag reducer into silica sol solution also presented excellent thermal stability and shear resistance, drag reduction and proppant suspension performances. The retained viscosity can be maintained above 50 mPa·s after shearing at 180 °C for 60 mins; the drag reduction rate shows a declining trend at high displacement due to the gelation process; the settling rate of 40/70 mesh sand proppant with 35 % sand ratio is less than 30 % after standing at 90 °C for 4 h. In addition, the gelation process is essentially the formation of Si-O-Si linkage by dehydration between SiO2 particles, which is gradually extended at both ends and sides of the chain, and eventually forms a rigid, highly porous, entangled network. Findings found in this study provide a research basis for the popularization and application of silica gel-based fracturing fluid.

A double potential well flat ion trap was designed as an ion accumulating and focusing device for multi-reflection time-of-flight mass analyzer. Two potential wells of the trap were severally used for accumulation of injected ions, controlled cooling and ejection of trapped ions, which had features to accumulate ions continuously and cool ion for almost one period. While a flat ion trap with only one potential well is a traditional and excellent ion accumulating and focusing device, which has an intermittent ion accumulation and an ion cooling around half period. Compared with the single potential well flat ion trap, the double potential well flat ion trap had better performance on ion accumulation and focusing in principle. Four steps to run the trap were simulated and researched by an ion optics simulator of SIMION 8.1. The first step was ion accumulation, ions were successively injected into the trap, and then stored and accumulated in the first potential well. The second step was ion transfer, the trapped ions were transferred from the first potential well to the second potential well. The third step was ion cooling, the trapped ions were confined in the second potential well, and were simultaneously cooled by collisions with 0.5 Pa He. The fourth step was ion ejection, the trapped ions were ejected from the trap and focused into the next device. Ion optics simulations indicated that the trap had a period from 1 ms to above 10 ms, a total ion transmission efficiency of 83%, and an ion flux of at most 1.6×106 ions. In addition, ion packets ejected from the trap had thermalized with radial diameters of 1.0 and 1.0 mm, angular standard deviations of 24 mrad and 16 mrad, and an energy standard deviation of 15 eV. This trap can be coupled with and provide high-flux and full-focusing ion packets for multi-reflection time-of-flight mass analyzers, due to an excellent suitability between the operation of the analyzer and the period, the ion transmission efficiency, the ion flux, and ejected ion packets of the trap.

Aspect-level sentiment analysis is a research focal point for natural language comprehension. An attention mechanism is a very important approach for aspect-level sentiment analysis, but it only fuses sentences from a semantic perspective and ignores grammatical information in the sentences. Graph convolutional networks (GCNs) are a better method for processing syntactic information; however, they still face problems in effectively combining semantic and syntactic information. This paper presents a sentiment-supported graph convolutional network (SSGCN). This SSGCN first obtains the semantic information of the text through aspect-aware attention and self-attention; then, a grammar mask matrix and a GCN are applied to preliminarily combine semantic information with grammatical information. Afterward, the processing of these information features is divided into three steps. To begin with, features related to the semantics and grammatical features of aspect words are extracted. The second step obtains the enhanced features of the semantic and grammatical information through sentiment support words. Finally, it concatenates the two features, thus enhancing the effectiveness of the attention mechanism formed from the combination of semantic and grammatical information. The experimental results show that compared with benchmark models, the SSGCN had an improved accuracy of 6.33–0.5%. In macro F1 evaluation, its improvement range was 11.68–0.5%.

(1) Background: Previous studies have compared research into ski jumping in different motor processes, but there is a lack of comparative analysis of the biomechanical research methods used to investigate different ski jumping sports. (2) Content: Our study compared the advantages and disadvantages of six research methods and proposes future research directions. Motion video collection and analysis show that controlling angular momentum and achieving stable flight attitude in the take-off process are the most critical factors in ski jumping performance. Most research on force platforms focuses on dynamic performance at the time of take-off, but there are few training sites with an embedded force platform, and so, more empirical research is required. Wearable inertial measurement units, including gyroscopes and accelerometers, can be used to determine a series of forces, calculate the joint angle, and speculate the position of the centroid during motion. Surface EMG studies are primarily used to compare the activity characteristics of the lower limb muscles in the actual field of the jump, the exercise simulation, and the lack of complete training process data. Wind tunnel measurement can satisfy fluid mechanics simulation experiments and provide theoretical support for optimizing special ski jumping technology. Based on the theory of computational fluid dynamics, the optimal drag reduction posture data of ski jumpers can be derived using computer simulations. (3) Conclusions: Due to the wide range of ski jumping sports, the present research focused on the kinematics and dynamics of different movement stages, lacking the study of the complete exercise training process. The range of wearable inertial measurement and sensor equipment can cover the whole process of ski jumping, including kinematics and dynamics data, and is a feasible and reliable test method for monitoring ski jump training in natural environments. The simultaneous testing of surface electromyography, kinematics, and dynamics requires further exploration. (4) Future direction of development: Under computational fluid dynamics, wearable inertial measurement units and global navigation satellite systems (GNSSs), intelligent wind tunnel experimental training areas will become essential tools for ski jumping research.

OVATE family proteins (OFPs) play important roles in plant growth and development, hormone signaling, and stress response pathways. However, the functions of OsOFPs in rice are largely unknown. In this study, a novel gain-of-function rice mutant, Osofp6-D, was identified. This mutant exhibited decreased plant height, erect leaves, reduced panicle size, short and wide seeds, delayed seed germination time, and reduced fertility. These phenotypic changes were attributed to the increased expression of OsOFP6, which was caused by a T-DNA insertion. Complementation of the Osofp6-D phenotype by knockout of OsOFP6 using the CRISPR/Cas9 system confirmed that the Osofp6-D phenotype was caused by OsOFP6 overexpression. In addition, transgenic plants overexpressing OsOFP6 with the 35S promoter mimicked the Osofp6-D phenotype. Cytological observations of the glumes showed that OsOFP6 overexpression altered the grain shape, mainly by altering the cell shape. Hormone response experiments showed that OsOFP6 was involved in the gibberellin (GA) and brassinolide (BR) signaling responses. Further studies revealed that OsOFP6 interacts with E3BB, which is orthologous to the Arabidopsis central organ size-control protein BIG BROTHER (BB). This study further elucidates the regulation mechanism of the rice OFP family on plant architecture and grain shape.

Abstract Organic light‐emitting transistors (OLETs) have attracted increasing attention because of their potential applications in next‐generation displays and high‐energy operating devices. However, the simultaneous achievement of high luminescent efficiency and carrier mobility in organic semiconductors remains challenging because the localized excitons are advantageous for light emission, whereas the delocalized carriers are beneficial for efficient charge migration. Herein, we report an organic single crystal of a cyano‐substituted styrene derivative with balanced mobility yielding a record‐high external quantum efficiency of 20.5% in OLETs. Temperature‐dependent I–V curves and electronic structure analyses based on first‐principles calculations were performed to disclose the underlying mechanism as a band transport, which provides an efficient way to achieve high quantum efficiency in OLETs.

Antibody–drug conjugates (ADCs) have greatly improved the outcomes of advanced breast tumors. However, the treatment of breast tumors with existing ADCs is still hindered by many issues, such as tumor antigen heterogeneity and drug resistance. Therefore, ADCs against new targets would provide options for the treatment of these challenges. Sortilin-1 (SORT1) may be a promising target for ADC as it is upregulated in breast cancer. To evaluate the possibility of SORT1 as an ADC target, a humanized antibody_8D302 with high affinity against SORT1 was generated. Additionally, 8D302 was conjugated with MMAE and DXd to generate two ADCs_8D302-MMAE and 8D302-DXd, respectively. Both 8D302-MMAE and 8D302-DXd showed effective cytotoxicity against SORT1 positive breast tumor cell lines and induced bystander killing. Consequently, 8D302-MMAE showed relatively better anti-tumor activity than 8D302-DXd both in vitro and in vivo, but 8D302-DXd had superior safety profile and pharmacokinetics profile over 8D302-MMAE. Furthermore, SORT1 induced faster internalization and lysosomal trafficking of antibodies and had a higher turnover compared with HER2. Also, 8D302-DXd exhibited superior cell cytotoxicity and tumor suppression over trastuzumab-DXd, a HER2-targeted ADC. We hypothesize that the high turnover of SORT1 enables SORT1-targeted ADC to be a powerful agent for the treatment of SORT1-positive breast tumor.

Transmembrane transport, mostly relying on biological channels, is crucial for the metabolic processes of live cells including sensing, signaling, cellular communicating and molecular transport. Artificial biomimetic channels offer excellent opportunities for studying the mechanisms of the metabolic processes of live cells and promote the applications of gene transfection, drug delivery, and regulations of cellular communications. DNA nanopores can be designed flexibly and operated easily while maintaining good biocompatibility, offering a good candidate for applications in basic research. However, because of the small size and good biocompatibility of DNA nanopores, it is still difficult to form stable channels on the plasma membrane of live cells by DNA nanopores. As a result, it significantly limits the applications of DNA nanopores in vivo. Thus, in this work, we have constructed ethane-phosphorothioate (PPT) groups modified DNA nanopores (E-DNA nanopores) to simulate biological channels for the transmembrane transport of small molecules. The E-DNA nanopores were found to be more hydrophobic and stable to anchor at the plasma membrane of live cells for a longer time window for subsequent transmembrane transport after the modification of ethane-PPT groups. The membrane-spanning E-DNA nanopores with a longer dwell time window could inspire the design of new DNA nanostructures and expand their biological applications including biosensing and sequencing, construction of artificial cells and regulation of transmembrane transport.

Lignin is the only renewable resource composed of aromatic hydrocarbons in nature that can be used as raw materials for preparing chemicals. However, due to the existence of stable C–O bonds and C−C bonds in the lignin, the high-value resource utilization of lignin is still challenging work. Herein, we reported efficient lignin depolymerization using a Ni-doped WO3-x nanosheet photocatalyst that was prepared via the two-step hydrothermal treatment. The optimized catalyst (Ni-doped WO3-x) successfully depolymerized sodium lignosulfonate to vanillic acid and guaiacol under visible-light irradiation. The active radicals of photocatalytic depolymerization of sodium lignosulfonate were superoxide radicals, photogenic holes, and hydroxyl radicals under visible-light irradiation. Furthermore, the introduction of Ni significantly decreased the activation energy barrier for selective cleavage of the C−C bond, which was the essential step to promote lactic acid production. This work presented an effective and promising strategy for lignin depolymerization and value-added biochemical production.

Abstract Graphdiyne (GDY), an emerging type of carbon allotropes with unique sp−sp2 carbon atoms, is firstly explored for high selectivity direct electrochemical sensing of ultra‐trace level copper ions (Cu2+). It achieves a wide detection range of 0.25–380 μM and a trace level as low as 8 nM, among the best performance of reported carbon‐based sensors. It is found that GDY with unique C≡C possesses both chelating and reducing abilities to efficiently anchor and reduce Cu2+ to Cu+, eventually leading to ultrasensitive detection.

Metal-air batteries rely on the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) for their operation. However, the ORR is kinetically slow, necessitating the use of Pt-based catalysts, which is hindered by their high cost and limited availability. Consequently, considerable efforts have been dedicated to developing metal-free catalysts for the ORR. Among these, heteroatom-doped carbons have emerged as promising candidates by manipulating their composition and microstructure. Inspired by the ancient “Pharaoh’s snakes” reaction, this study utilized sugar, melamine, and a polymerizable ionic liquid as precursors to prepare heteroatom-doped carbons with the desired composition and structure. The resulting carbon catalyst exhibited an onset potential and half-wave potential in a 0.1 M KOH electrolyte that was comparable to those of a commercial Pt/C 20 wt.% catalyst, with values of 0.97 and 0.83 VRHE, respectively. Furthermore, the catalyst demonstrated excellent stability, retaining 93% of its initial current after a 10,800-s test. To evaluate its practical application, the synthesized carbon was employed as the cathode catalyst in a Zn-air battery, which achieved a maximum power density of 90 mW cm−2. This study, therefore, presents a simple yet effective method for producing metal-free heteroatom-doped carbon ORR catalysts used in various energy conversion and storage devices.

High levels of M2 macrophage infiltration invariably contribute to poor cancer prognosis and can be manipulated by metabolic reprogramming in the tumor microenvironment. However, the metabolism-related genes (MRGs) affecting M2 macrophage infiltration and their clinical implications are not fully understood. In this study, we identified 173 MRGs associated with M2 macrophage infiltration in cases of gastric cancer (GC) using the TCGA and GEO databases. Twelve MRGs were eventually adopted as the prognostic signature to develop a risk model. In the high-risk group, the patients showed poorer survival outcomes than patients in the low-risk group. Additionally, the patients in the high-risk group were less sensitive to certain drugs, such as 5-Fluorouracil, Oxaliplatin, and Cisplatin. Risk scores were positively correlated with the infiltration of multiple immune cells, including CD8+ T cells and M2 macrophages. Furthermore, a difference was observed in the expression and distribution between the 12 signature genes in the tumor microenvironment through single-cell sequencing analysis. In vitro experiments proved that the M2 polarization of macrophages was suppressed by Sorcin-knockdown GC cells, thereby hindering the proliferation and migration of GC cells. These findings provide a valuable prognostic signature for evaluating clinical outcomes and corresponding treatment options and identifying potential targets for GC treatment.

Jasmonate ZIM-domain family proteins (JAZs) are repressors in the signaling cascades triggered by jasmonates (JAs). It has been proposed that JAs play essential roles in the sesquiterpene induction and agarwood formation processes in Aquilaria sinensis. However, the specific roles of JAZs in A. sinensis remain elusive. This study employed various methods, including phylogenetic analysis, real-time quantitative PCR, transcriptomic sequencing, yeast two-hybrid assay, and pull-down assay, to characterize A. sinensis JAZ family members and explore their correlations with WRKY transcription factors. The bioinformatic analysis revealed twelve putative AsJAZ proteins in five groups and sixty-four putative AsWRKY transcription factors in three groups. The AsJAZ and AsWRKY genes exhibited various tissue-specific or hormone-induced expression patterns. Some AsJAZ and AsWRKY genes were highly expressed in agarwood or significantly induced by methyl jasmonate in suspension cells. Potential relationships were proposed between AsJAZ4 and several AsWRKY transcription factors. The interaction between AsJAZ4 and AsWRKY75n was confirmed by yeast two-hybrid and pull-down assays. This study characterized the JAZ family members in A. sinensis and proposed a model of the function of the AsJAZ4/WRKY75n complex. This will advance our understanding of the roles of the AsJAZ proteins and their regulatory pathways.

The emergent optical activity (OA) caused by anisotropic light emitter in microcavities is an important physical mechanism discovered recently, which leads to Rashba–Dresselhaus photonic spin-orbit (SO) coupling. In this study, we report a sharp contrast of the roles of the emergent OA in free and confined cavity photons, by observing the optical chirality in a planar–planar microcavity and its elimination in a concave–planar microcavity, evidenced by polarization-resolved white-light spectroscopy, which agrees well with the theoretical predictions based on the degenerate perturbation theory. Moreover, we theoretically predict that a slight phase gradient in real space can partially restore the effect of the emergent OA in confined cavity photons. The results are significant additions to the field of cavity spinoptronics and provide a novel method for manipulating photonic SO coupling in confined optical systems.

Blade extension is an important type of technical transformation to improve the energy production of turbines for early-built wind farms. To evaluate the effects of blade extension on wind turbines, a 1.5 MW commercial wind turbine with three 37.5 m long blades is taken as the research object; the power enhancement and the load variations are systemically evaluated for three different blade extension lengths (1 m, 1.5 m and 2 m) resorting to the software GH-Bladed. The load cases cover all the requirements of the IEC-61400-1 standard. It is found that the optimum tip-speed ratio λopt and the corresponding power coefficient CPmax increase with the blade extension length. The annual energy power production is enhanced by about 3%, 4% and 6% for the extension length of 1 m, 1.5 m and 2 m, respectively. The steady loads and dynamic loads, especially the thrust force of the rotor, the flapwise moment of the blade root and the overturning moment at the tower bottom, are significantly enhanced as the improvement of the power. In particular, the percentage increase of these quantities are over 10% when the extension achieves 2 m. It is also shown that blade extension can produce good economic benefit and the benefit improves with the extension length within the safety margin. The paper provides an important reference for this type of technical transformation.

Isocorydine (ICD) is a type of isoquinoline alkaloid originating from Corydalis edulis, which has been used to relieve spasm, dilate blood vessels, and treat malaria as well as hypoxia in clinic. However, its effect on inflammation and underlying mechanisms remains unclear. The aim of our study was to determine the potential effects and mechanisms of ICD on pro-inflammatory interleukin-6 (IL-6) expression in bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMs) and acute lung injury mouse model. A mouse model of acute lung injury was established by intraperitoneal injection of LPS and treated with different doses of ICD. The body weight and food intake of mice were monitored to determine the toxicity of ICD. The tissue samples of lung, spleen and blood were taken to assess the pathological symptoms of acute lung injury and the expression levels of IL-6. Further, BMDMs isolated from C57BL/6 mice were cultured in vitro and treated with granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), LPS and different doses of ICD. CCK-8 assay and flow cytometry were performed to assess the viability of BMDMs. The expression of IL-6 was detected by RT-PCR and ELISA. RNA-seq was carried out to detect the differential expression genes of ICD-treated BMDMs. Western blotting was used to detect the change in MAPK and NF-κB signaling pathways. Our findings show that ICD ameliorates IL-6 expression and attenuates phosphorylation of p65 and JNK in BMDMs, and can protect mice from acute lung injury.

Proanthocyanidins are major UV-absorbing compounds. To clarify the effect of enhanced UV-B radiation on the proanthocyanidin synthesis and antioxidant capacity of traditional rice varieties in Yuanyang terraced fields, we studied the effects of enhanced UV-B radiation (0, 2.5, 5.0, 7.5 kJ·m−2·d−1) on the rice grain morphology, proanthocyanidins content, and synthesis. The effects of UV-B radiation on the antioxidant capacity of rice were evaluated by feeding aging model mice. The results showed that UV-B radiation significantly affected the grain morphology of red rice and increased the compactness of starch grains in the starch storage cells of central endosperm. The content of proanthocyanidin B2 and C1 in the grains was significantly increased by 2.5 and 5.0 kJ·m−2·d−1 UV-B radiation. The activity of leucoanthocyanidin reductase was higher in rice treated by 5.0 kJ·m−2·d−1 than other treatments. The number of neurons in the hippocampus CA1 of mice brain fed red rice increased. After 5.0 kJ·m−2·d−1 treatment, red rice has the best antioxidant effect on aging model mice. UV-B radiation induces the synthesis of rice proanthocyanidins B2 and C1, and the antioxidant capacity of rice is related to the content of proanthocyanidins.

The existing literature mainly focuses on the research of reinforced concrete (RC) beams under a single load such as blast or impact. In this paper, the slab–rib–slab RC beam, a new type of structure widely used in bridge structures, was taken as the research object. The explicit dynamic analysis software LS-DYNA was used to numerically analyze the dynamic response and failure behavior of I-shaped RC beams under combined blast and impact loads. For this reason, an effective numerical analysis model was obtained by carrying out experiments on I-shaped RC beams under contact explosion. The key factors affecting the dynamic response of the structure under combined loads were numerically analyzed. Numerical results showed that different load application sequences have important effects on the dynamic response of the structure. When the impact load was first applied to the structure, more severe concrete damage and deformation occured in the depth direction of the beam. However, when the blast load was first applied to the structure, the concrete at the lower flange was damaged in the span direction of the beam due to tension, and no large-scale concrete spallation occurred in the depth direction. This was mainly due to the different mechanisms of blast and impact loads. In addition, the vulnerability of the I-shaped RC beams varied with some structural parameters, including span, depth, and configuration of reinforcement. At the same time, the results showed that the structure is more sensitive to changes in structural parameters when it is first subjected to impact loads.

We have developed a method to analyze all rare earth elements in silicate glasses and zircon minerals using a high lateral resolution secondary ion mass spectrometer (NanoSIMS). A 2nA O− primary beam was used to sputter a 7–8-μm diameter crater on the sample surface, and secondary positive ions were extracted for mass analysis using an accelerating voltage of 8 kV. A high mass resolving power of 9,400 at 10% peak height was attained to separate heavy REE from oxide of light REE. A multi-collector system combined with peak-jumping by magnetic field was adjusted to detect REEs and silicon-30 for calibration. Based on results of NIST SRM610 glass, sensitivities of REEs vary from 3 cps/ppm/nA of Lu to 13 cps/ppm/nA of Eu. Reproducibility of REE/Si ratios is better than 18% at 2σ. Secondary ion yields of REEs show positive relationships with their ionization potential of second valence. REEs of AS3, QGNG, and Torihama zircons were measured and calibrated against those of 91500 standard zircon. SIYs of REEs of zircon are identical to those of the glass standard. AS3 and QGNG data are generally consistent with those of previous work. Torihama REE data combined with the whole rock data provide partition coefficients of REEs between silicate melt and zircon. The relationship between these coefficients and ionic radius is explained by an elastic moduli model.

In this study, a fluorescence polarization immunoassay (FPIA) was developed based on the single-chain variable fragments (scFvs) for fumonisin Bs (FBs). The scFvs were prepared from FBs-specific monoclonal antibody secreting hybridomas (4F5 and 4B9). The established FPIA could determine the sum of fumonisin B1 (FB1) and fumonisin B2 (FB2) within a short time. The IC50 of FPIA for the detection of FB1 and FB2 were 29.36 ng/ml and 1,477.82 ng/ml with 4F5 scFv, and 125.16 ng/ml and 30.44 ng/ml with 4B9 scFv, so the 4B9 scFv was selected for detection of FB1 and FB2 in maize samples with a limit of detection of 441.54 μg/kg and 344.933 μg/kg. The recoveries ranged from 84.7 to 104.1% with a coefficient of variation less than 14.1% in spiked samples, and the result of the FPIA method was in good consistency with that of HPLC-MS/MS. To supply a better understanding of the immunoassay results, the interactions mechanism of scFvs-FBs was further revealed by the homology modelling, molecular docking, and molecular dynamic simulation. It was indicated that six complementarity-determining regions (CDRs) were involved in 4B9 scFv recognition, forming a narrow binding cavity, and FB1/FB2 could be inserted into this binding cavity stably through strong hydrogen bonds and other interactions. While in 4F5 scFv, only the FB1 stably inserted in the binding pocket formed by four CDRs through strong hydrogen bonds, and FB2 did not fit the binding cavity due to the lack of hydroxyl at C10, which is the key recognition site of 4F5 scFv. Also, the binding energy of FB2-4B9 scFv complex is higher than the FB2-4F5 scFv complex. This study established a FPIA method with scFv for the detection of FB1 and FB1 in maize, and systematically predicted recognition mechanism of FBs and scFvs, which provided a reference for the better understanding of the immunoassay mechanism.

Connexin 26 (Cx26) is a protein that constitutes a gap junction and is widely expressed in the liver. Abnormal expression of Cx26 is one of the important mechanisms of liver cancer, and is closely related to the transmission of radiation damage signals between cells. In the present study, we investigated the radiosensitivity of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells HepG2, with low expression of Cx26, and SK-hep-1, with high expression of Cx26 after X-ray irradiation. The cell survival, micronucleus formation and protein expressions of the mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK) signaling pathway were detected. The expression level of Cx26 could affect the radiosensitivity of liver cancer cells by affecting the phosphorylation of p38 and ERK proteins and regulating the expression of downstream NF-κB. Cell lines with knock-out and overexpression of Cx26 were also built to confirm the findings. Our results suggested that Cx26 might play an important role in the radiosensitivity of liver cancer and could be a potential target for clinical radiotherapy of liver cancer.

Glycine max is a calcium-loving crop. The external application of calcium fertilizer is beneficial to the increase of soybean yield. Indeed, calcium is a vital nutrient in plant growth and development. As a core metal ion in signaling transduction, calcium content is maintained in dynamic balance under normal circumstances. Now, eight transporters were found to control the uptake and efflux of calcium. Though these calcium transporters have been identified through genome-wide analysis, only a few of them were functionally verified. Therefore, in this study, we summarized the current knowledge of soybean calcium transporters in structural features, expression characteristics, roles in stress response, and prospects. The above results will be helpful in understanding the function of cellular calcium transport and provide a theoretical basis for elevating soybean yield.

One of the most important methods of controlling the properties of concrete and cement-based materials is to control the rate and kinetics of cement hydration. In the present study, novel flexible polyurethane-decorated MgO nanohybrids were synthesized using a simple chemical method, added to cement paste in different amounts, and utilized as an effective mechanical performance-enhancing factor for cement paste. It was observed that by adding 3 wt% synthesized PU-MgO nanohybrids to cement paste, its mechanical properties were improved and its compressive strength and flexural strength were increased by up to 13% and 15%, respectively, compared to the plain cement, after 45 days. The effect mechanism of adding PU–MgO nanoparticles on the properties of the cement paste was investigated. The addition of PU–MgO nanohybrids increased the pozzolanic reactions and formed more C-S-H phases.

The sharing of high-quality traffic information plays a crucial role in enhancing the driving experience and safety performance for vehicular networks, especially in the development of electric vehicles (EVs). The crowdsourcing-based real-time navigation of charging piles is characterized by low delay and high accuracy. However, due to the lack of an effective incentive mechanism and the resource-consuming bottleneck of sharing real-time road conditions, methods to recruit or motivate more EVs to provide high-quality information gathering has attracted considerable interest. In this paper, we first introduce a blockchain platform, where EVs act as the blockchain nodes, and a reputation-based incentive mechanism for vehicular networks. The reputations of blockchain nodes are calculated according to their historical behavior and interactions. Further, we design and implement algorithms for updating honest-behavior-based reputation as well as for screening low-reputation miners, to optimize the profits of miners and address spatial crowdsourcing tasks for sharing information on road conditions. The experimental results show that the proposed reputation-based incentive method can improve the reputation and profits of vehicle users and ensure data timeliness and reliability.

Leaf angle is an influential agricultural trait that influences rice (Oryza sativa L.) plant type and yield, which results from the leaf bending from the vertical axis to the abaxial axis. UV-B radiation affects plant morphology, but the effects of varying UV-B intensities on rice flag leaves and the underlying molecular, cellular, and physiological mechanisms remain unknown. This experiment aims to examine the effect of natural light and field-enhanced UV-B radiation (2.5, 5.0, 7.5 kJ·m−2) on the leaf angle of the traditional rice variety Baijiaolaojing on Yuanyang terraces. In comparison with natural light, the content of brassinolide and gibberellin in rice flag leaves increased by 29.94% and 60.1%, respectively. The auxin content decreased by 17.3%. Compared with the natural light treatment, the cellulose content in the pulvini was reduced by 13.8% and hemicellulose content by 25.7% under 7.5 kJ·m−2 radiation intensity. The thick-walled cell area and vascular bundle area of the leaf pulvini decreased with increasing radiation intensity, and the growth of mechanical tissue in the rice leaf pulvini was inhibited. The flag leaf angle of rice was greatest at 7.5 kJ·m−2 radiation intensity, with an increase of 50.2%. There are two pathways by which the angle of rice flag leaves is controlled under high-intensity UV-B radiation. The leaf angle regulation genes OsBUL1, OsGSR1, and OsARF19 control hormone levels, whereas the ILA1 gene controls fiber levels. Therefore, as cellulose, hemicellulose, sclerenchyma, and vascular bundles weaken the mechanical support of the pulvini, the angle of the flag leaf increases.

Social hierarchy governs the physiological and biochemical behaviors of animals. Intestinal radiation injuries are common complications connected with radiotherapy. However, it remains unclear whether social hierarchy impacts the development of radiation-induced intestinal toxicity. Dominant mice exhibited more serious intestinal toxicity following total abdominal irradiation compared with their subordinate counterparts, as judged by higher inflammatory status and lower epithelial integrity. Radiation-elicited changes in gut microbiota varied between dominant and subordinate mice, being more overt in mice of higher status. Deletion of gut microbes by using an antibiotic cocktail or restructuring of the gut microecology of dominant mice by using fecal microbiome from their subordinate companions erased the difference in radiogenic intestinal injuries. Lactobacillus murinus and Akkermansia muciniphila were both found to be potential probiotics for use against radiation toxicity in mouse models without social hierarchy. However, only Akkermansia muciniphila showed stable colonization in the digestive tracts of dominant mice, and significantly mitigated their intestinal radiation injuries. Our findings demonstrate that social hierarchy impacts the development of radiation-induced intestinal injuries, in a manner dependent on gut microbiota. The results also suggest that the gut microhabitats of hosts determine the colonization and efficacy of foreign probiotics. Thus, screening suitable microbial preparations based on the gut microecology of patients might be necessary in clinical application.

Mitochondrial dysfunction in the endothelium contributes to the progression of hypertension and plays an obligatory role in modulating vascular tone. Acacetin is a natural flavonoid compound that has been shown to possess multiple beneficial effects, including vasodilatation. However, whether acacetin could improve endothelial function in hypertension by protecting against mitochondria-dependent apoptosis remains to be determined. The mean arterial pressure (MAP) in Wistar Kyoto (WKY) rats, spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) administered with acacetin intraperitoneally for 2 h or intragastrically for six weeks were examined. The endothelial injury was evaluated by immunofluorescent staining and a transmission electron microscope (TEM). Vascular tension measurement was performed to assess the protective effect of acacetin on mesenteric arteries. Endothelial injury in the pathogenesis of SHR was modeled in HUVECs treated with Angiotensin II (Ang II). Mitochondria-dependent apoptosis, the opening of Mitochondrial Permeability Transition Pore (mPTP) and mitochondrial dynamics proteins were determined by fluorescence activated cell sorting (FACS), immunofluorescence staining and western blot. Acacetin administered intraperitoneally greatly reduced MAP in SHR by mediating a more pronounced endothelium-dependent dilatation in mesenteric arteries, and the vascular dilatation was reduced remarkably by NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME), an inhibitor of NO synthesis. While acacetin administered intragastrically for six weeks had no apparent effect on MAP, it improved the endothelium-dependent dilatation in SHR by activating the AKT/eNOS pathway and protecting against the abnormalities of endothelium and mitochondria. Furthermore, acacetin remarkably inhibited Ang II induced apoptosis by inhibiting the increased expression of Cyclophilin D (CypD), promoted the opening of mPTP, ROS generation, ATP loss and disturbance of dynamin-related protein 1 (DRP1)/optic atrophy1 (OPA1) dynamics in HUVECs. This study suggests that acacetin protected against endothelial dysfunction in hypertension by activating the AKT/eNOS pathway and modulating mitochondrial function by targeting mPTP and DRP1/OPA1-dependent dynamics.

Hyperspectral data are important for water color remote sensing. The inevitable noise will devalue its application. In this study, we developed a 1-D denoising method for water hyperspectral data, based on sparse representing. The denoising performance was compared with three commonly used methods in simulated and real datasets. The results indicate that: (1) sparse representing can successfully decompose the hyperspectral water-surface reflectance signal from random noises; (2) the proposed method exhibited better performance compared with the other three methods in different input signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) levels; (3) the proposed method effectively erased abnormal spectral vibrations of field-measured and remote-sensing hyperspectral data; (4) whilst the method is built in 1-D, it can still control the salt-and-pepper noise of PRISMA hyperspectral image. In conclusion, the proposed denoising method can improve the hyperspectral data of an optically complex water body and offer a better data source for the remote monitoring of water color.

WRKY transcription factors (TFs), one of the largest transcription factor families in plants, play an important role in abiotic stress responses. The resurrection plant, Myrothamnus flabellifolia, has a strong tolerance to dehydration, but only a few WRKY proteins related to abiotic stress response have been identified and functionally characterized in M. flabellifolia. In this study, we identified an early dehydration-induced gene, MfWRKY40, of M. flabellifolia. The deduced MfWRKY40 protein has a conserved WRKY motif but lacks a typical zinc finger motif in the WRKY domain and is localized in the nucleus. To investigate its potential roles in abiotic stresses, we overexpressed MfWRKY40 in Arabidopsis and found that transgenic lines exhibited better tolerance to both drought and salt stresses. Further detailed analysis indicated that MfWRKY40 promoted primary root length elongation and reduced water loss rate and stomata aperture (width/length) under stress, which may provide Arabidopsis the better water uptake and retention abilities. MfWRKY40 also facilitated osmotic adjustment under drought and salt stresses by accumulating more osmolytes, such as proline, soluble sugar, and soluble protein. Additionally, the antioxidation ability of transgenic lines was also significantly enhanced, represented by higher chlorophyll content, less malondialdehyde and reactive oxygen species accumulations, as well as higher antioxidation enzyme activities. All these results indicated that MfWRKY40 might positively regulate tolerance to drought and salinity stresses. Further investigation on the relationship of the missing zinc finger motif of MfWRKY40 and its regulatory role is necessary to obtain a better understanding of the mechanism underlying the excellent drought tolerance of M. flabellifolia.

Loss of heterozygosity (LOH) for KRAS, in which a wild-type KRAS allele is progressively lost, promotes invasive and migratory abilities of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) cells and tissues. Moreover, the occurrence of KrasG12D-LOH activates nonclassical glutamine metabolism, which is related to the malignant behavior of PDAC cells. Herein, we aim to demonstrate the regulatory link between hypoxia-inducible factor-2α (HIF-2α) and glutamine metabolism that mediates malignant phenotypes in KrasG12D-LOH PDAC cells. HIF-2α-shRNA knockdown lentivirus transfection and metabolite analysis were performed in KrasG12D-LOH and KrasG12D cell lines, respectively. Cell proliferation, migration, and invasion were examined using Cell Counting Kit-8, colony formation, and Transwell assays. Cell cycle phase and apoptosis were determined using flow cytometry. Western blotting and real-time quantitative PCR were also performed. Additionally, a subcutaneous xenograft mouse model was established. LOH stimulated HIF-2α activity and transactivated c-Myc, which has a central regulatory effect on glutamine metabolism independent of hypoxia. Meanwhile, HIF-2α silencing repressed KrasG12D-LOH PDAC cell proliferation, invasion, and migration. HIF-2α knockdown inhibited glutamine uptake and GOT1 expression via a c-Myc-dependent pathway. Collectively, KrasG12D-LOH can activate HIF-2α to regulate c-Myc-mediated glutamine metabolism and promote malignant phenotypes. Moreover, targeting HIF-2α-c-Myc regulated nonclassical glutamine metabolism, providing a new therapeutic perspective for KrasG12D-LOH PDAC.

As a core tool, anomaly detection based on a generative adversarial network (GAN) is showing its powerful potential in protecting the safe and stable operation of industrial control systems (ICS) under the Internet of Things (IoT). However, due to the long-tailed distribution of operating data in ICS, existing GAN-based anomaly detection models are prone to misjudging an unseen marginal sample as an outlier. Moreover, it is difficult to collect abnormal samples from ICS. To solve these challenges, a dual auto-encoder GAN-based anomaly detection model is proposed for the industrial control system, simply called the DAGAN model, to achieve an accurate and efficient anomaly detection without any abnormal sample. First, an “encoder–decoder–encoder” architecture is used to build a dual GAN model for learning the latent data distribution without any anomalous sample. Then, a parameter-free dynamic strategy is proposed to robustly and accurately learn the marginal distribution of the training data through dynamic interaction between two GANs. Finally, based on the learned normal distribution and marginal distribution, an optimized anomaly score is used to measure whether a sample is an outlier, thereby reducing the probability of a marginal sample being misjudged. Extensive experiments on multiple datasets demonstrate the advantages of our DAGAN model.

CRISPR/Cas system has developed a new technology to modify target genes. In this study, CasΦ2 is a newly Cas protein that we used for genome modification in Arabidopsis and tobacco. PDS and BRI1 of marker genes were chosen for targeting. CasΦ2 has the function to cleave pre-crRNA. In the presence of 10 mM Mg2+ irons concentration, sgRNA3 type guided CasΦ2 to edit target gene and generate mutation, and a mutant seedling of AtBRI1 gene with an expected male sterile phenotype was obtained. In the process of tobacco transformation, the gene editing activity of CasΦ2 can be activated by 100 nM Mg2+ irons concentration, and sgRNA1 type guided CasΦ2 to edit target gene. Mutant seedlings of NtPDS gene with an expected albino were obtained. The results indicate that CasΦ2 can effectively edit target genes under the guidance of different sgRNA type in the presence of Mg2+ ions. Together, our results verify that the CRISPR/CasΦ2 system is an effective and precise tool for genome editing in plants.

Monocrystalline silicon has shown great potential in constructing advanced devices in semiconductor, photoelectric, and photochemistry fields. The fabrication of micro-grooves with large depth-to-width ratio (DTWR) and low taper is in urgent demand as this type of groove can significantly promote the device performance. The grooves with such characterizations can hardly be achieved by conventional machining techniques owing to the high hardness and brittleness of silicon. Laser waterjet (LWJ) machining is a promising solution, which is capable of ablating materials with less or no heat defects, well machining precision, and consistency. Therefore, this paper firstly established a theoretical model describing the interaction between silicon and LWJ. Through the numerical simulation, the evolution of temperature and stress distribution at the machining region was analyzed. Variation experiments were carried out correspondingly. On these bases, scribing experiments were put forward aimed at discovering the influence of machining parameters on groove morphology. Optimized scribing strategy which is capable of realizing the construction of a micro-groove with DTWR of 19.03 and taper of 0.013 was obtained. The results contributed to the understanding of LWJ processing of silicon on a small scale as well as broadening the application prospects of LWJ for treating other semiconductor devices.

Ti/SnO2-Sb electrode, which is one of the dimensionally stable anode (DSA) electrodes, offers high specific conductivity, excellent electrocatalytic performance, and great chemical stability. For these reasons, Ti/SnO2-Sb electrode has been extensively studied in the fields of wastewater treatment. This review covers essential research work about the advanced oxidation technology and related DSA electrodes. It gives an overview of preparation methods of SnO2 electrodes, including sol-gel method, dip-coating method, electrodeposition method, chemical vapor deposition method, thermal decomposition method, magnetron sputtering method, and hydrothermal method. To extend service life and improve electrocatalytic efficiency, the review provides comprehensive details about the modification technologies of Ti/SnO2-Sb electrode, such as doping modification, composite modification, and structural modification. In addition, the review discusses common problems in industrial applications of Ti/SnO2-Sb electrode and highlights the promising outlook of Ti/SnO2-Sb electrode.

SiC/SiC ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) are widely applied in the aerospace and nuclear industries due to their excellent material nature (strength, hardness, and irradiation tolerance) at high-temperature loads. However, high-quality machining cannot be easily realized because of the anisotropic material structure and its properties. In this study, a laser water jet (LWJ) was adopted for CMCs machining. Firstly, the finite element model (FEM) was established describing a representative three-dimensional microstructure including weft yarn, warp yarn, SiC base, and the pyrolytic carbon (PyC) fiber coating. The temperature distribution, as well as its evolution rule on substrate surface under LWJ machining, was analyzed. Moreover, a single-dot ablation test was carried out to verify the accuracy of the numerical simulation model. Secondly, the variation in maximum temperatures under different laser pulse energy was obtained by means of FEM. Nonetheless, a non-negligible deviation emerged in the ablation depth of the numerical calculation and experimental results. Although the simulation results were obviously superior to the experimental results, their proportions of different machining parameters reached an agreement. This phenomenon can be explained by the processing characteristics of LWJ. Finally, single-row and multi-row scribing experiments for CMCs with 3 mm thickness were developed to clarify the processing capacity of LWJ. The experimental results indicated that single-tow scribing has a limiting value at a groove depth of 2461 μm, while complete cutting off can only be realized by multi-row scribing of LWJ. In addition, the cross-section of CMCs treated by LWJ presented a surface morphology without a recast layer, pulling out of SiC fibers, and delamination. The theoretical and experimental results can offer primary technical support for the high-quality machining of CMCs.

Radiation-induced cardiopulmonary injuries are the most common and intractable side effects that are entwined with radiotherapy for thorax cancers. However, the therapeutic options for such complications have yielded disappointing results in clinical applications. Here, we reported that gut microbiota-derived l-Histidine and its secondary metabolite imidazole propionate (ImP) fought against radiation-induced cardiopulmonary injury in an entiric flora-dependent manner in mouse models. Local chest irradiation decreased the level of l-Histidine in fecal pellets, which was increased following fecal microbiota transplantation. l-Histidine replenishment via an oral route retarded the pathological process of lung and heart tissues and improved lung respiratory and heart systolic function following radiation exposure. l-Histidine preserved the gut bacterial taxonomic proportions shifted by total chest irradiation but failed to perform radioprotection in gut microbiota-deleted mice. ImP, the downstream metabolite of l-Histidine, accumulated in peripheral blood and lung tissues following l-Histidine replenishment and protected against radiation-induced lung and heart toxicity. Orally gavaged ImP could not enter into the circulatory system in mice through an antibiotic cocktail treatment. Importantly, ImP inhibited pyroptosis to nudge lung cell proliferation after radiation challenge. Together, our findings pave a novel method of protection against cardiopulmonary complications intertwined with radiotherapy in pre-clinical settings and underpin the idea that gut microbiota-produced l-Histidine and ImP are promising radioprotective agents.
