The rational design and systematic synthesis of a "pillar-layered" coordination polymer was carried out using a rigid carboxylic acid, 2-hydroxy-trimesic acid (H4L), resulting in two coordination polymers, {[Zn4(L)2(DMA)3(H2O)5]·H2O}n (1) and [Zn4(L)2(pdp)(H2O)4]n (2). Compound 1 is a two-dimensional (2-D) network containing tetranuclear zinc clusters, deprotonated H4L ligands and DMA solvent molecules. The introduction of trans-1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethylene) (pdp) replaced solvent molecules in 1, forming pillars between the 2-D sheets to furnish 2. The water stability of 2 is higher than that of 1. A homochiral three-dimensional framework material, [Cu7(4-bpt)6(CN)(H2O)] (1) (4-bpt = 3,5-bis(4-pyridyl)-1,2,4-triazole), has been successfully synthesized by solvothermal reaction, which is generated through an unusual spontaneous asymmetrical crystallization from achiral precursors, and its photocatalytic properties in degradation of organic dyes are also investigated. Abstract: Reactions of different metal salts with 4-amino-3,5-bis(3-pyridyl)-1,2,4-triazole (3-abpt) gave rise to five new complexes, namely [Cu4(CN)4(3-abpt)2] n (1), [CuBr(3-abpt)] n (2), [CuI(3-abpt)] n (3), [Cu3I3(3-abpt)] n (4) and [Cu(3-abpt)(SO4)(H2O)] n (5). Compounds 1, 3, 4 and 5 are all 2D structures. Compound 1 is a double-layered polymer with an uncommon 3-nodal 3-connected (103)(102.4)4 network, 3 shows a 2D square layered structure, 4 is also a double-layered polymer with 2-nodal 4-connected (3.4.5.62.7)2(3.42.52.7) network and 5 is a 2D structure which is ultimately stacked with an ABAB repeat pattern. Compound 2 is a 1D coordination polymer which exhibits a ladder-like network. The photoluminescence of 1–2 has also been investigated. Three new coordination polymers, [Cu(butca)0.5(bipy)(H2O)]n · 2nH2O (1), [Zn(H2butca) (phen)(H2O)]n · nH2O (2), and [Cd(H2chhca)0.5(phen)(H2O)]n · 2nH2O (3) (H4butca =1,2,3,4-butanetetracarboxylic acid, H6chhca = 1,2,3,4,5,6-cyclohexanehexacarboxylic acid), were prepared and characterized by EA, IR, TG, and X-ray crystallography. Complex 1 is a 1-D double-chain coordination polymer in which tetradentate butca4- coordinates to four Cu(II) ions through four monodentate carboxylates. Complex 2 is a 1-D chain with tridentate H2butca2- coordinating to two Zn(II) ions through monodentate and chelating carboxylates. Complex 3 is a 1-D double-chain coordination polymer. H2chhca4- is octadentate coordinating to four Cd(II) ions through four chelating carboxylates. Hydrogen bonds and π-π stacking interactions play important roles in the formation of supramolecular architectures. Abstract: Hydrothermal reactions of 2-, 3-, 4-cyanopyridine, NaN3 with CdCl2 in basified solvents yielded three coordination polymers [Cd3(2-pytta)2(N3)4(H2O)2] n (1), [Cd(3-pytta)2] n (2), [Cd3(4-pytta)2(N3)2Cl2(H2O)4] n (3). A similar reaction of tetrazole as ligand and the CdCl2 being replaced by CdI2 resulted in polymer [Cd2(tta)3I] n (4). X-ray single crystal structural analyses revealed that four compounds all show three-dimensional architectures. Complex 1 exhibits rare 3,4,4-connected 3-nodal with (3.92)2(3.94.10)(32.93.10) network in the Schäfli notation, while complex 2 is an anatase net with 3,6-connected (42.6)2(44.62.88.10) network. Complex 3 is 3,3,4,4-connected 4-nodal network with (4.102)2(42.104)(42.6.102.12)2(42.6)2 topology, and complex 4 can be simplified as an interesting alpha-Po network. The solid emission spectra of 1, 2, 3 and 4 have also been studied. From the results, it can be found complex 4 exhibits a long triplet lifetime that is unusual in CdII complexes. Abstract: Two novel three-dimensional (3D) coordination polymers (1) and ·nH2O (2) (mtta=5-methyltetrazolate, trz=1,2,4-triazole) were synthesized and structurally characterized. Abstract: Two new three-dimensional (3D) coordination polymer [Cu2(tetrazolate)3(OH)] n (1) and [Cd2(tetrazolate)3Br] n (2) were synthesized and structurally characterized. By the topology analysis, the complicated architecture of 1 and 2 are all simplified to be the 6-connected pcu-type net. Complex 1 is a 2D coordination polymer constructing from hexadentate HL 3− ligand, which contains trinuclear cobalt cluster [Co 3 (COO) 6 ] building block. Complex 2 is a 2D coordination polymer assembled by octadentate L 4− ligand. Complex 3 is a 3D metal-organic framework assembled by tetradentate L 4− ligand and 4-abpt linker. Complex 4 exhibits a 2D layered network containing 1D [Co 2 L] n nanotube. Complex 5 is a 2D coordination polymer possessing tetranuclear cobalt cluster Co 4 ( μ 3 -OH) 2 (COO) 4 . The solution reactions of metal salts with (+)-dibenzoyl-tartaric acid (H 2 L) and 1,3-bis(4-pyridyl)propane (bpp) or 4,4′-bipyridine (4,4′-bipy) afford three two-dimensional (2D) coordination polymers, [Mn 2 L 2 (bpp) 2 (H 2 O) 4 ] n ·n H 2 O ( 1 ), [CuL(bpp)] n ·n H 2 O ( 2 ) and [CoL(4,4′-bipy)(CH 3 OH)(H 2 O)] n ( 3 ). Dibenzoyl-tartrate ligand displays cis - or trans -conformation, and acts as a 1,4-dicarboxylate linker. Solvothermal reaction of CuCl 2 ·2H 2 O and 2-(4-pyridyl)benzimidazole (PyHBIm) in a acetonitrile-water mixed solvent afforded a mixture of [Cu I 2 Cu II (CN) 2 (PyHBIm) 2 Cl 2 ] n ( 1 ) and [Cu II (PyH 2 BIm) 2 Cl 4 ] ( 2 ). Complex 1 is a mixed-valence 1D ribbon Cu(I,II)-cyanide coordination polymer. One Cu(II) center linearly links two Cu(I) ions via two μ 2 -CN bridges. XPS spectrum and bond valence sum (BVS) analysis have confirmed the mixed-valence characteristics. Cu(II) ion adopts a centrosymmetric square-planar geometry surrounded by two cyanides and two pyridyl groups. Cu(I) ions adopt a trigonal geometry coordinated by cyanide, imidazole group and Cl − anion. The cyanide ligand is in situ generated from the cleavage of acetonitrile solvent, which indicates that acetonitrile is an environmentally friend cyanating agent. MnII and CoII salts reacting with 4-(4-carboxyphenyl)-4,2′:6′,4″-terpyridine (4-Hcptpy) in DMF/H2O afford two complexes, [Mn(4-cptpy)(DMF)(H2O)2] n ·n(4-cptpy)·nDMF (1) and [Co(4-cptpy)2(H2O)2] n (2). Complex 1 is a 1D ribbon coordination polymer assembled by Mn2 dimer and tridentate 4-cptpy ligand. The guest 4-cptpy anion is embedded in 3D supramolecular architecture with strong hydrogen bonds. Complex 2 is a 1D linear chain coordination polymer with quadrangled pores. Abstract: A novel Ni(II) coordination polymer with flexible 4,4′-oxybis(benzoic acid) (oba) and rigid 4,4′-bipyridine was prepared hydrothermally and crystallographically characterized. It shows an unusual μ-oxo(O2−) bridged dinickel(II) polymer. In the dimetal core, each metal center is six-coordinated to three carboxylate oxygen atoms from two different oba ligands, two nitrogen atoms of distinct 4,4′-bipyridine and one bridging oxygen forming a distorted octahedron. Upon complexation, nickel complex exhibits intense purple fluorescence (413.8nm) which may originates to the O2−Ni2+(LMCT) in addition to the peaks of intraligand π–π∗ transition of oba ligand (317.7 and 720.7nm). Abstract: On the basis of triangular-shaped [Mn3O] secondary building units, a novel two-dimensional (2D) manganese(III) complex, [NaMnIII 3O(sao)3(btec)0.5(H2O)3]·1.25H2O (1) (H2sao=salicylaldoxime, H4btec=benzene-1,2,4,5-tetracarboxylate acid), was synthesized and structurally characterized. The structure of 1 consists of 2D coordination polymer based on [Mn3O] units bridged by sodium ions and benzene-1,2,4,5-tetracarboxylate groups. Abstract: Four novel coordination polymers constructed from flexible pamoic acid, namely [Co(pam)(4,4′-bipy)] n ·nH2O (1), [Ni(pam)(4,4′-bipy)(H2O)2] n ·2nCH3CN (2), [Cd(pam)(py)2] n ·npy (3) and [Mn2(pam)2(py)6(H2O)2] n ·2npy (4), (H2pam=pamoic acid, 4,4′-bipy=4,4′-bipyridine, py=pyridine), have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectra and X-ray crystallography. Complex 1 is a 2-D coordination polymer constructed from chelating bis-bidentate pam and 4,4′-bipyridine bridging ligands. Complex 2 is a 2-D coordination polymer assembled by bis-monodentate pam and 4,4′-bipyridine, where acetonitrile is filled in the rectangle channels. Both 2-D coordination polymers display undulated (4,4) grid layers as sql topology. Complex 3 displays a 1-D polymeric chain using chelating bis-bidentate pam as bridging ligand. Complex 4 exhibits an interesting bis-monodentate pam-Mn(II) 1-D polymeric chain, in which exist two-type six-coordinated manganese centers. Mn(1) is bound to four pyridine ligands, whereas Mn(2) is combined to two pyridine and two H2O molecules. Their thermal stabilities have been investigated. Three two-dimension Co(II) coordination polymers constructed by trinuclear unit of [Co 3 O 12 ] with kgd topology, The different size of solvent molecular can affect the structure of the compounds. The exchange of coordinated solvent molecules on the unsaturated coordination cobalt sites have also been explored. Three new Co(II) coordination polymers based on a flexible ligand 5-(3-carboxybenzyloxy)-isophthalic acid (H 3 L) namely [Co 3 (L) 2 (H 2 O) 4 ] n ·2nDMF (1) (DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide), [Co 3 (L) 2 (DMA) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ] n ·2nDMA (2) (DMA = N,N-dimethylacetamide) and [Co 3 (L) 2 (py) 2 (NMP)(H 2 O)] n ·nNMP·nH 2 O (3) (NMP = N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone) have been assembled using different solvent. The different size of solvent molecular can affect the structure of the compounds. Interestingly, three compounds all constructed by the same trinuclear unit of [Co 3 O 12 ] to exhibit two-dimension architecture with kgd topology. In this building block, there are coordinated water and molecules having the carbonyl group as terminal ligands coordinated with cobalt ions, providing a good example for studying the coordinated solvent exchange. When coordinated solvent molecules were replaced by pyridine molecules, which made two Co ions in asymmetric coordination. This symmetry breaking might the reason for compound 3 crystallizes in the noncentrosymmetric space group. Abstract A novel luminescent Zn(II)-organic coordination polymer {[Zn(asba)(mbix) 2 (H 2 O)]·H 2 O·DMF} n (1) based on the multi-functional 2-amino-5-sulfobenzoic acid (H 2 asba) and the N-donor flexible bis(imidazole) ligand 1,3-bis(imidazole-1-ylmethyl)benzene (mbix) has been synthesized and structurally characterized. 1 shows excellent hydrolytic stability in water. 1 may be used as a potential candidate for wide band gap semiconductor materials through the analysis of the solid state diffuse reflectance UV–vis spectrum. The fluorescence properties of 1 are greatly dependent on the solvents. 1 exhibits the strongest fluorescence in water. Most interestingly, the fluorescence emission of the aqueous suspension of 1 is selectively quenched by the chromate anions (CrO 4 2−/Cr 2 O 7 2−) or Fe3+ cation among large pools of the co-existent different anions or metal cations, respectively, revealing that 1 could be used as a potential dual functional fluorescent sensor for trace amounts of the chromate anions or Fe3+ cation. The detection limits obtained through the incremental fluorescence quenching titration experiments reach to sub-ppm level for the Cr(VI) anions (CrO 4 2−/Cr 2 O 7 2−) and Fe3+ cation, respectively. By controlling the length of auxiliary ligands, compounds 1 and 3 can be assembled under similar reaction conditions with different 3D structures. Although the ligands are all achiral components, it is interesting to note that compound 1 crystallizes in P2 1 chiral space group. The two Zn ions are in an asymmetric coordination environment resulting in symmetric breaking, which might be the reason compound 1 crystallizes in the chiral space group. While, compound 3 is composed of two identical 2D layers interpenetrating with each other, displaying a 2D + 2D → 3D polycatenation network. By changing the solvent and temperature, compound 2 can be available which presents a 3D structure with a two-fold interpenetrating framework, and the guest accessible volume (2414 Å3 per unit cell) accounts for 16.8% of the unit cell volume. Six hydrous Cd(II) coordination polymers based on a scorpion-like 5-(3-pyridylmethoxy)isophthalic acid (H 2 L), namely {[CdL(H 2 O)]·2H 2 O} n ( 1 ), [Cd 4 L 4 (H 2 O) 4 ] n ( 2 ), [CdL(H 2 O)] n ( 3 ), [CdL(H 2 O) 2 ] n ( 4 ), {[CdL(H 2 O)]·H 2 O} n ( 5 ) and [CdL] n ( 6 ), were hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by EA, IR, PXRD, TG-DSC and X-ray structural analysis. Three Co(II)/Zn(II) coordination polymers containing μ 3 -hydroxide metal clusters are constructing from 3,5-bis(4-carboxybenzyloxy)benzoic acid. • Three cadmium coordination polymers have been synthesized by using rigid carboxylic ligand. • The bidentate auxiliary ligands with different lengths have an important influence on their final structures. • Compound 1 might be developed as a functional luminescent probe for detecting both nitrobenzene and Fe3+. Reaction of p-phenylenediacetonitrile ( p-phda) with AgCF3COO afforded the coordination polymer, {[Ag2( p-phda)2] [Ag4(CF3COO)6]} n ( 1), where the 1D cationic [Ag2( p-phda)2]2+ chain acts as host and the anionic [Ag4(CF3COO)6]2- as guest molecules occupy the channel between neighboring host chains. This is a rare crystal example of AgCF3COO complex consisting of cationic complex chains and anionic guests. In addition, complex 1 exhibits luminescence at room temperature in solid state. Three unique complexes with diverse coordination architectures were synthesized upon complexation of p -phenylenediacetonitrile with silver trifluoroacetate in response to regulation of solvents system. Crystallization from benzene and m -xylene yield two 2D layered frameworks 1 and 2 , respectively, of which 1 contains benzene as guest but 2 does not. In 1 , every two ligands double link two 1D chains in trans fashion while each ligand is μ 2 -bridged to two 1D chains in 2 . This difference in coordination can be properly assigned to the significant solvent steric effect on assembled reactions, which ultimately leads to two types of pores with different size and shape formed within the 2D structure of 1 and 2 , respectively. 3 was recrystallized of guest-eliminated 1a from DMSO and share the same chemical formula with 1a , yet differ greatly in coordination topology, demonstrating the solvent-mediated crystallization and phase transition. The benzenes in 1 could be liberated accompanying the observable distortion of its framework as evidenced by XRPD. The guest-eliminated 1a declined the reincorporation of aromatic guests such as benzene, toluene and xylene isomers due to the probable shrinkage of pores in 1a , but accommodated those smaller guests such as water, methanol and ethanol. Complexes {[Ag 5 (CF 3 COO) 5 (1,4-dcb) 2 ].2(C 6 H 6 )} n ( 1 ) and [Ag 2 (CF 3 SO 3 ) 2 (1,4-dcb) 2 (μ-H 2 O)] n ( 2 ) were synthesized by reaction of 1,4-dicyanobenzene (1,4-dcb) with AgX (X = CF 3 COO − or CF 3 SO 3 − ). Both of them have been characterized by FT-IR, elemental analysis and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Complex 1 forms 2-D sheets which are constructed from cross-linked 1,4-dcb and 1-D silver(I) chains connecting through trifluoroacetate anions. Benzenes are intercalated as guests between the sheets of complex 1 . Complex 2 forms double-strand chains which are built on bimetal centers bridged by a μ-H 2 O and double bridging 1,4-dcb ligands coordinating via terminal N-donors. Interestingly, the framework of 1 reversibly responds to the removal and inclusion of benzenes. Six new coordination polymers, namely,[Cd(SO4)(4-abpt)(H2O)]n·3nH2O (1), [Cu3(CN)3(4-abpt)2]n(2), [Cd(D-cam)(2-PyBIm)(H2O)]n(3), [Co(D-Hcam)(cptpy)]n(4), [Cd(D-cam)(btmb)]n(5), and [Cd2(D-cam)(L-cam)(btmbb)]n(6) (4-abpt = 4-amino-3,5-bis(4-pyridyl)-1,2,4-triazole,D-H2cam = d-camphoric acid, 2-PyBIm = 2-(2-pyridyl)benzimidazole,Hcptpy = 4′-(4-carboxyphenyl)-3,2′:6′,3″-terpyridine,btmb = 1,4-bis(1,2,4-triazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene, btmbb = 4,4′-bis(1,2,4-triazol-1-ylmethyl)-1,1′-biphenyl),have been synthesized under hydro(solvo)thermal conditions. Theirstructures were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysisand further characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectra,powder X-ray diffraction, circular dichroism, and thermogravimetricanalysis. Complex 1features a 3D porous metal–organicframework, which is a rare example to obtain a homochiral compoundfrom achiral components. Complex 2exhibits a 2D polymericnetwork constructed from μ2-cyanide, μ2-4-abpt, and monodentate 4-abpt ligands. Complex 3is a homochiral 1D helical chain polymer. Complex 4displays a 1D ladder-like polymeric structure in which cptpy–is tetradentate and D-Hcam–actsas a side arm. Complex 5displays a homochiral 2D networkwith (4,4) topology. Complex 6shows a [Cd2(D-cam)(L-cam)]n(4,4)-connectednetwork with a paddle-wheel Cd2(COO)4asnode, which is further pillared by a btmbb spacer into a 3D metal–organicframework. d-Camphoric acid underwent racemization underhydrothermal conditions. Cd(II) complexes 1, 3, and 5crystallize in chiral space groups, and theircircular dichroism spectra exhibit obvious positive or negative Cottoneffects. Moreover, 1, 3, and 5are SHG-active, and the SHG efficiency, respectively, is 0.15, 0.4,and 0.4 times as much as that of KH2PO4. Two new coordination polymers with formulas of {[Co 3 (L) 2 (Im) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ]·2H 2 O·DMF} n (1) and {[Co 3 (L) 2 (Im) 2 ]·3H 2 O} n (2) (H 3 L ​= ​5-(3-carboxybenzyloxy)-isophthalic acid, Im ​= ​imidazole, DMF ​= ​ N , N ʹ-dimethylformamide) have been synthesized respectively. Compound 1 holds a 2D framework with kgd topology. In order to improve its water-stability, by temperature-controlling, through the dissolution-recrystallization structural transformation (DRST) process, compound 2 can be obtained, which exhibits a 3D architecture with flu topology. These two compounds all consist of the trinuclear secondary building unit. Due to the water-stability of compound 2 is higher than that of compound 1 , the dye degradation activities of 2 under UV light toward rhodamine B (RhB) with H 2 O 2 are investigated in aqueous solutions. Furthermore, the thermal stability of compounds 1 – 2 has also been investigated. Two Co coordination polymers were successfully synthesized by temperature-controlling. Compound 1 features a three-dimensional anionic architecture constructed by triangular Cd 3 cluster and ligands, with rectangle channels encapsulating [Me 2 NH 2 ]+ cations. Two new Cd(II) coordination polymers based on a flexible ligand 5-(bis(4- carboxybenzyl)amino)isophthalic acid (H 4 L) namely {[Cd 2 (L)(NMP) 2 (H 2 O) 2 ]·H 2 O} n (1) and{[Cd 4 (L) 2 (NMP) 2 (H 2 O)]∙2NMP} n (2) (NMP=N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone) have been prepared under hydrothermal conditions. Structural analyses revealed that 1 and 2 all exhibit three-dimensional network structures. Compound 1 shows 4-connect crb topology with [Cd 2 (CO 2) 4 ] as secondary building unit, while compound 2 can be regarded as a new 4,4,8-connect with a {411.615.82}{45.6}{46} topology with tetranuclear [Cd 4 (CO 2) 8 ]. By step-wise synthesis, tetranuclear cluster-based {[Cd 4 (L) 2 (NMP) 2 (H 2 O)]∙2NMP} n (2) can be synthesized successfully by using compound 1. Complexes 1 – 3 are 2D double-layered networks constructed from 1D [M 2 (5-Br-ip) 2 ] n (M = CoII/NiII/ZnII) double chains pillared by azpy and 4,4′-bipy spacers. Complexes 4 and 5 are 3D porous MOFs assembled by 2D wave-like [Zn(bpmba)] n networks connected by 5-Br-ip2− linkers. These complexes are characterized by elemental analysis, IR, PXRD, thermogravimetry and single crystal X-ray structural analysis. Complex 1 is a 2D double-layered network constructed from [Co 2 (5-Br-ip) 2 ] n double-chains pillared by azpy spacers. Complexes 2 and 3 are 2D double-layered networks using 4,4′-bipy as spacer. Complexes 4 and 5 are different 3D porous metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) assembled by 2D wave-like [Zn(bpmba)] n networks and bidentate 5-Br-ip2− linkers. Both complexes show (3,4)-connected jea-type nets of {63}{65·8} topology. The five complexes are thermally stable up to 350–410 °C.
