PRESIDENTIAL elections ,TIME series analysis ,CONTENT analysis ,LONGITUDINAL method - Abstract
Computerized content analysis has been used in previous studies to assess leadership capabilities (Bligh, 2004). The researchers in the present study conducted a computerized content analysis using Hart's DICTION program. The analysis was performed on the speeches of the 2008 presidential campaigns of Barack Obama and John McCain. It was found that the content of the speeches varied over time on the DICTION dimensions of certainty, activity, optimism, realism, and commonality. Obama consistently demonstrated higher levels of commonality throughout the campaign. Implications for dynamic, time series content analyses are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SENTIMENT analysis ,FOLKSONOMIES ,SOCIAL media ,MASS media use ,POLITICAL debates ,VALUE-added tax - Abstract
This article proposes novel frameworks of SentiVerb and Spell Checker system, which extracts the reaction, mood, and opinion of users from social media text (SMT). The opinion of users is extracted from their written text on social media such as comments, tweets, blogs, feedbacks etc. and are classified as positive or negative opinion based on sentiment score of SMT using dictionary-based approach and a binary classifier. The dictionary-based approach uses opinion verb dictionary (OVD) to extract the sentiment of opinion verbs present in SMT. This OVD contain only opinion verbs along with their sentiment score. The various steps of the framework such as lower-case conversion, tokenization, spell checker, Part-of-Speech tagging, stop word elimination, stemming, sentiment score calculation, and classification of SMT has been discussed. A new concept of threshold negative parameter is first time introduced in this article. In the experiment, the proposed SentiVerb system's performance is evaluated on three datasets such as Facebook comments on goods and services tax (GST) implementation in India, tweets on the debate between former president of USA Mr. Barack Obama and Mr. John McCain, and the movie reviews. Consequently, the implementation of the proposed SentiVerb system using rule-based classifier (RBC) gives the best performance result in term of accuracy with 82.5% on GST comments and 79.18% on Obama-McCain debate, which is better than the existing algorithms on the social issues related domain dataset(s). Also, system performance (accuracy of 71.3%) is better than others results on standard movie dataset. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

QUESTIONNAIRE design , *AUTHENTIC leadership , *AUTHENTICITY (Philosophy) , *CRONBACH'S alpha - Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the multidimensional nature of authentic leadership (AL) through the re-evaluation of the factor structure of the most commonly used scales in AL research, the Authentic Leadership Questionnaire (ALQ) and the Authentic Leadership Inventory (ALI). Results from Exploratory Structural Equation Modeling (ESEM) conducted among 538 workers of private (57,81%) and public (42,19%) organizations provide support for the multidimensional nature of AL but also reveal excessive content overlap across subscales and an inability to properly reflect the a priori factor structure of both instruments. Further analyses enabled the identification of key items from both instruments providing a cleaner depiction of the a priori dimensionality of AL, leading to the development of an integrated optimized measure, the Authentic Leadership Integrated Questionnaire (AL-IQ). The main contribution of this study is the proposition of an alternative and optimized measure of authentic leadership that sheds light on the distinct theoretical facets of this positive leadership style. Our data suggest that the AL-IQ is a promising tool for characterizing the strengths and weaknesses of leaders and managers’ AL practices. To our knowledge, this is the first study to use a combination of classical Confirmatory Factor Analyses (CFA) and newly developed ESEM framework to assess the construct validity (factor structure, reliability, and criterion-related validity) of the two main AL measures: the ALQ and the ALI. The first debate in 2008 was a turning point in the presidential election campaign: a race that was close before the debate turned decisively in Obama’s favor following it. This article explores how the media reached their verdict that “Obama won.” We examine two aspects of this problem: how, in practice, the media reached this verdict and whether they made the right decision from a normative standpoint. Based on content analysis of debate transcripts, we argue that the media interpreted the debate by synthesizing three pre-debate narratives in roughly equal proportions. Crucially, two of these narratives favored Obama. We also find that the “Obama won” verdict was consistent with what we might expect had the debate been judged by a public-spirited umpire.
