The purpose of this article is to present the results of a multi-site case study designed to investigate students' experiences as participants in four week-long immersion programs (New York City, Peru, the Czech Republic, Chicago). Results highlight the significance of the context of the trips and specific characteristics of the trip (e.g., getting out of the bubble, boundary crossing, and personalizing), which served as the springboard for learning and meaning making. In particular, meaning making focused on developing new understandings of social issues, privilege, and stereotypes, reframing experiences upon participants' return, and shifting sense of purpose and career planning.

Insurer investment returns are taxed in the United States at the corporate level and at the personal level when they are distributed to shareholders. This paper examines the implications of personal taxes for the tax cost on insurers equity capital and how these tax costs have varied over time under different tax regimes and with different asset portfolios. The paper also discusses how personal taxes provide tax incentives to form offshore hedge fund reinsurers, which provide an interesting case study illustrating the relevance of personal taxes. Based on survey data from over 400 faculty members who taught short-term study abroad courses, the purpose of this study was to identify the types of goals that faculty members have in teaching short-term study abroad courses and the relationship between faculty background characteristics (i.e., race, gender, discipline, and prior experience) and their teaching goals. By further understanding the goals that these faculty members have for their study abroad programs, we are better able to assess how these programs may or may not be meeting overall internationalization goals and then to use this information to assist faculty members and higher education administrators in finding ways to further align study abroad goals with the broader goals of international education. Objective: Anger is a symptom of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) associated with a range of clinical and functional impairments, and may be especially prevalent among veterans with PTSD. Effective anger management therapies exist but may be undermined by poor engagement or lack of treatment availability. Finding ways to engage veterans in anger management therapy or to improve access can be helpful in improving clinical outcomes. This randomized controlled trial compared anger management treatment (AMT) with AMT augmented by a mobile application (app) system, Remote Exercises for Learning Anger and Excitation Management (RELAX).Methods: Participants were 58 veterans enrolled in 12 sessions of either AMT alone or AMT with the RELAX system (AMT + RELAX). The RELAX system includes the RELAX app, a wearable heart rate monitor, a remote server, and a web-based therapist interface. RELAX allows the user to practice skills, monitor symptoms, and record physiological data. The server collects data on app use. A web-based interface allows the therapist to access data on between-session practice, and skills use. Measures administered at baseline, post-treatment, and 3-and 6-month follow-up include state and trait anger, dimensions of anger, PTSD, depression, interpersonal functioning, and satisfaction. We used multilevel modeling to account for the nesting of time points within participants and participants within treatment groups. Predictors were Treatment Condition (AMT + RELAX and AMT), Linear Time (baseline, post-treatment, 3-and 6-month follow-up), and Quadratic Time and Treatment Condition × Linear Time interaction. All analyses were conducted using SPSS 21 (Armonk, New York). Approval was obtained from the institutional review board.Results: Across groups, the treatment dropout rate was 13.8%; of those who remained in treatment, 90% received an adequate dose of treatment (10 or more sessions). There were no significant differences between groups on attendance or treatment completion. Participants in both treatments demonstrated statistically significant and clinically meaningful reductions in anger severity and significant post-treatment reductions in PTSD. Veterans did not report significant changes in depression or interpersonal functioning. Veterans in the AMT + RELAX group reported spending significantly less time on homework assignments, and they rated the AMT + RELAX app as helpful and easy to use, with these ratings improving over time.Conclusion: Findings suggest that AMT + RELAX was beneficial in reducing anger symptoms and promoting efficient use of the between-session practice; however, AMT + RELAX did not outperform AMT. This study is an important contribution as it is one of the first randomized controlled trials to study the efficacy of a technology-enhanced, evidence-based psychotherapy for anger management. Findings are limited because of small sample size and modifications to the technology during the trial. However, the results highlight the possible benefits of mobile app-supported treatment, including increasing the accessibility of treatment, lowering therapist workload, reducing costs of treatment, reducing practice time, and enabling new activities and types of treatments. This study presents preliminary evidence that mobile apps can be a valuable addition to treatment for patients with anger difficulties. The benefits of professional networks are largely invisible to the people embedded in them (O'Reilly ), yet professional networks may provide key benefits for faculty careers. The purpose of the study reported here was to explore the role of professional networks in faculty agency in career advancement, specifically focusing on the overall relationship between the social capital gained from networks and faculty agency in career advancement. Community-level legal and policy innovations or 'experiments' can be important levers to improve health. States and localities are empowered through the 10th Amendment of the United States Constitution to use their police powers to protect the health and welfare of the public. This article describes innovative approaches to public health law and policy from Minneapolis and New Orleans, communities who have been honored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) for addressing health by focusing not solely on health care access and quality, but the wider environment, including transforming neighborhoods, schools, and businesses and addressing inequities. Specifically, this article discusses examples of how these cities have used public health legal and policy approaches and novel partnerships to promote healthy eating and active living, reduce exposure to secondhand smoke, and prevent violence. The article discusses what it means to Americans to be over Sixty-Five years of age and how perceptions for older adults has changed over time. Topics include the impact of increasing life expectancy on the standard of living of those over sixty- five years of age, the role of stereotypes in American culture, isolation and loneliness in the lives of Americans as they age and the concerns of finance and employment for older adults.

The combination of changes occurring at the transition to middle school may be a catalyst for the onset of depressive symptoms, yet teacher support at this transition is protective. Research points to certain temperamental traits as risk factors for developing depressive symptoms. This study examines student reports of teacher support and teacher reports of student–teacher relationship (STR) quality as mediators of associations between child temperament (i.e. negative emotionality at age 4½ and emotional reactivity in elementary grades) and depressive symptoms in sixth grade. Results indicate (a) negative emotionality predicted emotional reactivity and depressive symptoms; (b) emotional reactivity predicted depressive symptoms; (c) students' perceptions of teacher support (in grade 6) and teachers' perceptions of STR quality (in grades 4–6) predicted depressive symptoms; and (d) student–teacher conflict mediated associations between emotional reactivity and depressive symptoms. The article discusses the promotion of global leadership development among students in the U.S. It highlights the creation of Global Leadership Development Plan (GLDP), an approach that could be applied in developing students' engagement in short-term study-abroad and fostering global leadership development at home. Whether indirectly from governmental and non-governmental organizations or directly from higher education institutions, students receive messages that they should study abroad. Studying in a foreign country is considered essential if students are to be marketable to future employers and prepared to lead the U.S. into a new era. Despite the presence of such messages, the understanding of what it means to be absent from the undergraduate student population willing and able to study in a foreign country is severely limited. Importantly, what are the perceptions and experiences of students who repeatedly hear the value of study abroad and who, at the same time, are not willing and/or able to participate? The purpose of this critical qualitative study was to seek answers to this question by exploring the perceptions and experiences of a population that continues to experience low rates of study abroad participation: Latina/o undergraduate students. This article discusses the labor market conditions that will affect labor market diversity in the U.S. in 2000. It examines diversity using three well known representation measures, accounting method and forecasting formula. Previous forecasts of the Year 2000 overemphasize the differences in labor markets from the base period, rather than recognizing the underlying dynamics of change. Such forecasts, tend to show big changes in diversity that occur at a future time. Moving from civilian labor force (CLF) and occupation labor force (OLF) data for local labor markets and occupations to available labor force (ALF ) data, broadens the view of the labor market. Specifically, many non-workers exist in local labor markets who are not counted using OLF and CLF measures. The differences between ALF and OLC/CLF measures are associated with the addition of non-worker pools across race and sex groups in the ALF calculations. Reductions in white male employment between 1980 and 1990 were recorded for nine occupations, including operatives & service, craft & mechanics and clerical. Major demand changes are expected in technician jobs in the next decade. In California, projections show hospital and health care facility staffing levels will be reduced as bed occupancy levels decrease, mergers occur and movement to managed care options increase.

The U.S Navy Civilian Equal Employment Opportunity program was analyzed to evaluate the efficiency with which various installations attain the EEO goals. Generalized efficiency approaches or Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) were used for this model study. Data for 75 major installations are used to analyze such factors as occupational differences, relative EEO parity attainment, size of installations, and number of EEO officials. E.S.
