A cooperative salvo guidance strategy using fixed finite-time consensus is proposed here. The consensus algorithm is based on sliding mode control. The cooperative salvo attack problem is transformed to a consensus problem over a cycle digraph. This aids in designing a guidance strategy through selection of heterogeneous gains. The proposed strategy guarantees convergence to a common impact time for all the interceptors, within a fixed time, from a wide range of initial heading angles. Subsequently, the guidance strategy is extended to cooperatively intercept a constant velocity target. The efficacy of the proposed algorithm is vindicated through simulations on both stationary and constant velocity targets. Numerical simulations are also performed on realistic missile models that account for aerodynamic parameter variations, yielding satisfactory performance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper deals with optimizing smeared extensional stiffness ratio of stiffeners to that of skin of laminated composite hat-stiffened panel with the variation of pitch length stiffeners, depth of stiffeners and panel orthotropy ratio for three different plie configurations to maximize buckling capacity of the panel. Critical buckling load and global buckling mode shape of the laminated composite hat-stiffened panel are studied for the design of lightweight structures. Parametric studies of hat-stiffened panel under in-plane compressive load are presented with simply supported boundary conditions. Models are analyzed by applying Finite Element method using ABAQUS. A database is provided based on smeared stiffness approach for two different hatstiffened (600-hat-stiffened and 750-hat-stiffened) panels with variation of pitch length stiffeners, depth of stiffeners, panel orthotropy ratio and smeared extensional stiffness ratio of stiffeners to that of skin with three different plie configurations. On the basis of the study, optimum smeared extensional stiffness ratio is increased with increasing of orthotropy ratio for all similar skin, but it is also increased with decreasing extensional stiffness ratio to maximize buckling capacity of hat-stiffened panel and general guidelines are developed for the design of better hat-stiffened panel. Purpose: This paper aims to describe the fabrication, packaging and testing of a resistive loaded p-channel metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor-based (MOSFET-based) current mirror-integrated pressure transducer. Design/methodology/approach: Using the concept of piezoresistive effect in a MOSFET, three identical p-channel MOSFETs connected in current mirror configuration have been designed and fabricated using the standard polysilicon gate process and microelectromechanical system (MEMS) techniques for pressure sensing application. The channel length and width of the p-channel MOSFETs are 100 µm and 500 µm, respectively. The MOSFET M1 of the current mirror is the reference transistor that acts as the constant current source. MOSFETs M2 and M3 are the pressure-sensing transistors embedded on the diaphragm near the mid of fixed edge and at the center of the square diaphragm, respectively, to experience both the tensile and compressive stress developed due to externally applied input pressure. A flexible square diaphragm having a length of approximately 1,000 µm and thickness of 50 µm has been realized using deep-reactive ion etching of silicon on the backside of the wafer. Then, the fabricated sensor chip has been diced and mounted on a TO8 header for the testing with pressure. Findings: The experimental result of the pressure sensor chip shows a sensitivity of approximately 0.2162 mV/psi (31.35 mV/MPa) for an input pressure of 0-100 psi. The output response shows a good linearity and very low-pressure hysteresis. In addition, the pressure-sensing structure has been simulated using the parameters of the fabricated pressure sensor and from the simulation result a pressure sensitivity of approximately 0.2283 mV/psi (33.11 mV/MPa) has been observed for input pressure ranging from 0 to 100 psi with a step size of 10 psi. The simulated and experimentally tested pressure sensitivities of the pressure sensor are in close agreement with each other. Changes in expression of membrane antigens may accompany the transition of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) from 'dormant' to 'active' states. We have determined whether antibody and T cell responses to Mtb membrane (MtM)-associated antigens, especially the latency-induced protein alpha crystallin (Acr), can discriminate between latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) and active TB (ATB) disease. Study subjects comprised a previously described cohort of healthcare workers (HCWs, n = 43) and smear-positive ATB patients (n = 10). HCWs were further categorized as occupational contacts (OC, n = 30), household contacts of TB (HC, n = 8) and cured TB (CTB, n = 5). Levels (ΔOD) of serum antibody isotypes (IgG, IgA and IgM) were determined by ELISA and blood T cell proliferative responses were determined by flow cytometry using Ki67 protein as marker for DNA synthesis. Antibodies to MtM and Acr were predominantly IgG and their levels in HCWs and ATB did not differ significantly. However, HCWs showed a significantly higher level of anti-MtM IgM and a significantly lower level of anti-Acr IgA antibodies than the ATB patients. Also, a larger proportion of HCWs showed a high (>1) ΔODAcr/ΔODMtM ratio for IgG. HCWs also showed a higher, though not significantly different from ATB, avidity of anti-MtM (IgG) antibodies. A higher proportion of HCWs (35% of OC, 62.5% of HC and 20% of CTB), compared with ATB (10%) showed a positive T cell response to Acr along with significant difference (P <0.05) between HC and ATB. A significant correlation (r = 0.60, P <0.0001) was noted between T cell responses of HCWs towards Acr and MtM (reported earlier by us) and both responses tended to decline with rising exposure to the infection. Even so, positive responses to Acr (38.5%) were significantly lower than to MtM (92%). Neither antibody nor T cell responses to either antigen appeared affected by BCG vaccination or reactivity to tuberculin. Results of the study suggest that the levels of IgM antibodies to MtM, IgA antibodies to Acr and proliferative T cell responses to both the antigens can potentially discriminate between LTBI and active TB disease. The work reported in this paper describes the design and simulation of a novel current mirror readout circuit based MOSFET integrated cantilever structure for micro-gram (μ g) mass sensing applications. The proposed mass sensing structure consist of silicon cantilever as the micromechanical structure, MOSFET as strain sensing element and current mirror as a readout circuit. In this paper, studies have been carried out on three structures (a) n-channel MOSFET based resistive loaded current mirror integrated cantilever mass sensor (b) p-channel MOSFET based resistive loaded current mirror integrated cantilever mass sensor and (c) n- and p- channel MOSFETs based dual current mirror integrated cantilever mass sensor. The input MOSFET(s) of the current mirror acts as the reference transistor(s) while the output MOSFET(s) of the mirror circuit acts as strain sensing element(s) to measure the cantilever deflection under externally applied load. The structural and the electrical characteristics of the sensors were simulated using COMSOL Multiphysics and TSPICE software respectively. Simulation results showed a sensitivity of 21.89 μ V/ μ g, 1 μ V/ μ g and 115.57 μ V/ μ g for nMOS, pMOS and dual channel cantilever mass sensor. The fabrication steps and mask layout of the proposed sensor have also been presented in this paper. Abstract The Kilauea volcano on the Hawaii island started erupting on 3rd May 2018 after an earthquake of magnitude 5.0. The initial volcano eruption and the subsequent earthquakes resulted in the opening of new volcanic fissures, continuous lava flow at the lower east rift zone and the collapse of the summit caldera floor. All these activities continued until the 1st week of August 2018. The Small Baseline Subset (SBAS) technique is an advanced form of Differential Interferometry (DInSAR) which is capable of monitoring surface deformations with millimetre level accuracy. SBAS technique was utilised here for estimating the surface deformation on Hawaii island due to the volcanic episode. InSAR coherence technique was also utilised in this study for localised analysis at the summit and at the lower east rift zone to detect the time series deformation information and lava flow patterns. 14 interferometric datasets acquired by the ESA's Sentinel-1 C-band satellite from April 2018 to September 2018 were used in this study. The data acquired by the seismometers installed at Kilauea by Hawaii Volcano Observatory, the SWIR band of Sentinel-2 and the thermal band of Landsat-8 were used to correlate and verify the results obtained through the SBAS and InSAR coherence analysis. The combined interpretation of results obtained from all the sources gave insights about the underground magma conduit system, surface deformations, lava flow channels and the correlation between the magmatic and seismic activity happened there which are discussed in detail in this paper. Purpose This paper aims to describe the fabrication and characterization of current mirror-integrated microelectromechanical systems (MEMS)-based pressure sensor.Design/methodology/approach The integrated pressure-sensing structure consists of three identical 100-µm long and 500-µm wide n-channel MOSFETs connected in a resistive loaded current mirror configuration. The input transistor of the mirror acts as a constant current source MOSFET and the output transistors are the stress sensing MOSFETs embedded near the fixed edge and at the center of a square silicon diaphragm to sense tensile and compressive stresses, respectively, developed under applied pressure. The current mirror circuit was fabricated using standard polysilicon gate complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) technology on the front side of the silicon wafer and the flexible pressure sensing square silicon diaphragm, with a length of 1,050 µm and width of 88 µm, was formed by bulk micromachining process using tetramethylammonium hydroxide solution on the backside of the wafer. The pressure is monitored by the acquisition of drain voltages of the pressure sensing MOSFETs placed near the fixed edge and at the center of the diaphragm.Findings The current mirror-integrated pressure sensor was successfully fabricated and tested using in-house developed pressure measurement system. The pressure sensitivity of the tested sensor was found to be approximately 0.3 mV/psi (or 44.6 mV/MPa) for pressure range of 0 to 100 psi. In addition, the pressure sensor was also simulated using Intellisuite MEMS Software and simulated pressure sensitivity of the sensor was found to be approximately 53.6 mV/MPa. The simulated and measured pressure sensitivities of the pressure sensor are in close agreement.Originality/value The work reported in this paper validates the use of MOSFETs connected in current mirror configuration for the measurement of tensile and compressive stresses developed in a silicon diaphragm under applied pressure. Tuberculin skin test (TST) is used most widely for the detection of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI), even though evidences suggest that it could be underreporting the prevalence of LTBI particularly in high disease-burden settings. We have explored whether in vivo (TST) and in vitro (cell-proliferative) T cell responses to PPD can serve as complementary measures. In addition, we also probed whether in vitro T cell response to cell-membrane antigens (Mem) of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) can serve as a biomarker for LTBI. Study subjects comprised 43 healthcare workers (HCWs), and 9 smear-positive TB patients served as ‘disease control’. To measure proliferative T cell responses, 0.1 ml blood (diluted 1:10) was incubated (5 days) with test or control antigen. Cells were stained with fluorescent antibodies to T cell (CD3+/CD4+/CD8+) surface markers and, after fixation and permeabilization, to nuclear proliferation marker Ki67. Data was acquired on a flow cytometer. HCWs who had an intimate exposure to MTB showed significantly higher TST positivity (85%) than the rest (43%), notwithstanding their BCG vaccination status. The proliferative responses of CD4+ and CD8+ subsets of T cells were comparable. Sixty seven and 100% TST-negative HCWs, respectively, were positive for proliferative T cell response to PPD and MTBMem. Cumulative positivity (TST or in vitro) was 86% with PPD and 100% with MTBMem indicating complementarity of the two responses. As standalone in vitro assay, MTBMem provided a significantly higher positivity (95%) than PPD (67%). T cell responses of TB patients were ‘generally’ depressed, having implications for the development of immunological assays for ‘progressive’ LTBI. Altogether, these results demonstrate that in vivo and in vitro T cell responses to PPD are complementary and in vitro response to MTBMem can be developed as a highly sensitive biomarker for LTBI. A thermodynamic equilibrium analysis on steam reforming process to utilize acetone-butanol-ethanol-water mixture obtained from biomass fermentation as biorenewable fuel has been performed to produce clean energy carrier H 2 via non-stoichiometric approach namely Gibbs free energy minimization method. The effect of process variables such as temperature (573–1473 K), pressure (1–10 atm), and steam/fuel molar feed ratio ( F ABE  = 5.5–12) have been investigated on equilibrium compositions of products, H 2 , CO, CO 2 , CH 4 and solid carbon. The best suitable conditions for maximization of desired product H 2 , suppression of CH 4 , and inhibition of solid carbon are 973 K, 1 atm, steam/fuel molar feed ratio = 12. Under these conditions, the maximum molar production of hydrogen is 8.35 with negligible formation of carbon and methane. Furthermore, the energy requirement per mol of H 2 (48.96 kJ), thermal efficiency (69.13%), exergy efficiency (55.09%), exergy destruction (85.36 kJ/mol), and generated entropy (0.29 kJ/mol.K) have been achieved at same operating conditions. [Display omitted] • A framework incorporating the elasticity-based Budyko approach is developed to identify the hydrologic sensitive and resilient catchment. • The catchment characteristics are portrayed in light of the hydrologic response variation and climate change. • The developed approach of sensitivity and resiliency analysis is further explored in updated CMIP6 future climate scenarios. To develop effective adaptation strategies for climate change, particularly in regions where water is scarce, it is crucial to comprehend and quantify how hydrological responses are influenced by anthropogenic activities and climate change. The primary concern nowadays is to identify the hydrologic sensitive and resilient catchment under these diverse conditions. Thus, a framework is developed in this study to analyse the hydrologic sensitivity and resiliency of a catchment incorporating the elasticity-based Budyko approach. The developed framework is applied to three neighbouring catchments (Brahmani, Baitarani, and Subarnarekha) in eastern India that have received less attention in light of resiliency and sensitivity perspectives. The Budyko approach is first applied using hydro-climatic records of historical phase (1979–2018) and then extended for future phase (2025–2064) under four different Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs) (1-2.6, 2-4.5, 3-7.0 and 5-8.5) of Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6) projections which will provide new insights to the hydrological community. The results highlight that streamflow variations of the Subarnarekha is more sensitive to anthropogenic activities in all time phases. In contrast, the Brahmani and Baitarani are more sensitive to climate change in future phases. During historical phase, the Brahmani and Baitarani are identified to be resilient catchments with high water yield and dry climate, whereas the Subarnarekha is found to be sensitive catchment, exhibiting low water yield and dry climate. However, in future phase, all three catchments are predicted to be resilient, characterized by high water yield and wet climate. The major inference from this study is excess anthropogenic activities can disrupt the anticipated hydrological functioning of a catchment, particularly under critical climatic conditions, which can result in decreasing hydrological resiliency. The finding of this study mainly highlights the response of a hydrological system to climate change and anthropogenic activities to explore the approach of sensitivity and resiliency from a socio-hydrological perspective. Identification and extraction of material in the urban scenario are always challenging due to the presence of different heterogeneous materials. Airborne hyperspectral sensors with the advantage of both high spectral and spatial resolution can be used in such areas for the identification and mapping of urban materials. Manual extraction of the endmembers in highly dense heterogeneous urban regions is a very difficult task to achieve, but with automated extraction techniques, it yields promising results. To counter the mixed pixels problem in heterogeneous urban areas automated endmember extraction techniques like Endmember Average RMS (EAR), Minimum Average Spectral Angle (MASA), and Count Based Endmember Selection (CoB) was used for pure endmember identification in the densely populated urban area of Kolkata region using AVIRIS NG imagery. Spectral Unmixing Multiple Endmember Spectral Mixture Analysis (MESMA), Linear Spectral Unmixing (LSU), and Mixture Tuned Matched Filtering (MTMF) was performed on AVIRIS NG data using the extracted endmembers of different urban materials. The rule-based classification was performed on abundance images obtained from MESMA, MTMF, and LSU techniques for comparative analysis. Classification using MESMA abundance images outperformed in mapping mixed urban environments with an overall accuracy (OA) of 88.6 % followed by the rule-based classified output of MTMF and LSU with OA of 75.27% and 72.45% respectively. The potential of single date fully Polarimetric RADARSAT‐2 data in retrieving crop biophysical parameters using Machine Learning techniques was investigated. Various polarimetric parameters along with coherent and incoherent decomposition techniques were assessed for its sensitivity toward crop parameters like Wet and Dry Biomass, Crop Height, Leaf Area Index and Vegetation Water Content. A set of 39 polarimetric observables extracted from the Quad‐Pol data were used for regression analysis. In this study two Machine Learning techniques Random Forest Regression (RFR) and Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) models were assessed for the prediction of Wet Biomass (gm−2) and Height (cm). The most significant (6 out of 39) variables were applied for prediction. The results revealed that RFR algorithm performed better than MLR. The coefficient of determination (R2) and root‐mean‐square‐error of estimating wet biomass and height were 0.646, 655.65 (gm−2) and 0.71, 14.5 (cm) respectively in RFR and 0.566, 683.86 (gm−2) and 0.65, 16.14 (cm) respectively in MLR. Thus this study explored the effective application of quad‐pol data for assessing sensitivity and accurate retrieval of parameters using optimum PolSAR observables. Thermodynamic equilibrium analysis has been adopted for oxidative steam reforming of butanol-ethanol mixture (B-E) as renewable source obtained from Acetone:Butanol:Ethanol (ABE) fermentation to produce H 2 by using Gibbs free energy minimization method. The effects of pressure (1–10 atm), temperature (573–1473 K), steam/fuel molar feed ratio ( f O1 = 9 and 12), O 2 /fuel molar feed ratio ( f O2 = 0–3), and B-E mixture compositions (50–90%B) on equilibrium compositions of H 2 , CO, CO 2 , CH 4 , and carbon are performed. The maximum H 2 yield (65.456% for f O2 = 0 and 58% for f O2 = 0.75) has been achieved at f O1 = 9, 90% B mixture, 1 atm, and 973 K. The yields of CO, CO 2 , and CH 4 with respect to maximum H 2 are 53.390%, 44.384%, and 2.225% for f O2 = 0, and 45.677%, 53.269%, and 1.053% for f O2 = 0.75, respectively. Recently, hydrogen is utilized by numerous chemical industries as an alternate over non-renewable fuels, and surely it will be considered as an important fuel in the near future. This paper reports a review of various reforming technologies for hydrogen production from butanol produced by fermentation of feedstocks like wheat, sugar beets, sugar cane, etc. with a number of aspects involving selection of an appropriate catalyst to suppress undesirable products as many reforming reactions are dependent on the catalyst properties to enhance the formation of significant fuels which may fulfill the future energy needs. An overview of butanol reforming processes with experimental and theoretical studies in order to grasp possibilities and restrictions of these processes is not comprehensively presented yet. The genus Cololejeunea (Spruce) Schiffn. is one of the largest genera of the Lejeuneaceae, represented by 436 taxa in the world dissevered in to 13 subgenera (Söderström et al., 2016). The members of this genus are predominantly found in the wet tropics, subtropics and in some oceanic warm temperate areas where they grow mostly in foliicolous condition, but they also grow as epiphyte and on other substratum too (Pócs and Piippo, 2011). In India, the genus is represented by 56 species and 1 variety (Singh et al., 2016; Manju et al., 2017). An overview of subgenus Aphanolejeunea of Cololejeunea was presented by Pócs and Bernecker (2009) wherein 43 binomials accepted under it. Seven taxa of subgenus Aphanolejeunea namely, Cololejeunea diaphana A. Evans [formerly C. truncatifolia (Horik.) Mizut.], C. grossepapillosa (Horik.) Pócs, C. hyalina G. Asthana & S.C. Srivast., C. karnatakensis G. Asthana & S.C. Srivast., C. microscopica var. exigua (A. Evans) Bernecker & Pócs and C. nilgiriensis G. Asthana & S.C. The regulation of the carbon cycle is a critical ecosystem service provided by forests globally. It is, therefore, necessary to have robust techniques for speedy assessment of forest biophysical parameters at the landscape level. It is arduous and time taking to monitor the status of vast forest landscapes using traditional field methods. Remote sensing and GIS techniques are efficient tools that can monitor the health of forests regularly. Biomass estimation is a key parameter in the assessment of forest health. Polarimetric SAR (PolSAR) remote sensing has already shown its potential for forest biophysical parameter retrieval. The current research work focuses on the retrieval of forest biophysical parameters of tropical deciduous forest, using fully polarimetric spaceborne C-band data with Polarimetric SAR Interferometry (PolInSAR) techniques. PolSAR based Interferometric Water Cloud Model (IWCM) has been used to estimate aboveground biomass (AGB). Input parameters to the IWCM have been extracted from the decomposition modeling of SAR data as well as PolInSAR coherence estimation. The technique of forest tree height retrieval utilized PolInSAR coherence based modeling approach. Two techniques – Coherence Amplitude Inversion (CAI) and Three Stage Inversion (TSI) – for forest height estimation are discussed, compared and validated. These techniques allow estimation of forest stand height and true ground topography. The accuracy of the forest height estimated is assessed using ground-based measurements. PolInSAR based forest height models showed enervation in the identification of forest vegetation and as a result height values were obtained in river channels and plain areas. Overestimation in forest height was also noticed at several patches of the forest. To overcome this problem, coherence and backscatter based threshold technique is introduced for forest area identification and accurate height estimation in non-forested regions. IWCM based modeling for forest AGB retrieval showed R 2 value of 0.5, RMSE of 62.73 (t ha −1 ) and a percent accuracy of 51%. TSI based PolInSAR inversion modeling showed the most accurate result for forest height estimation. The correlation between the field measured forest height and the estimated tree height using TSI technique is 62% with an average accuracy of 91.56% and RMSE of 2.28 m. Our closest neighbor (Moon) is full of wonders and potentials that can help us learn more about the solar system and provide a habitat for space colonies. The lunar surface contains several potential volatiles implanted by the solar wind that can be used for In-Situ Resource Utilization (ISRU). Also by characterizing the lunar surface we can comprehend many solar system phenomenon. Radar has been proven to be very effective in characterizing and understanding the physical properties of the lunar surface. The success of Chandrayaan-2 (CH-2) in 2019 opened numerous doors to better understanding the lunar surface. The Dual Frequency Synthetic Aperture Radar (DFSAR), is the first L-band SAR ever used for lunar mapping. We approximated the dielectric values for the Permanently Shadowed Regions (PSRs) by combining the Integral Equation Model (IEM) and Artificial Neural Network (ANN). The two-dimensional Gaussian model proved to be more accurate when correlated with in-situ measurements made by the Apollo 17 mission out of four different configurations, but the validation process has its limitations, thus we analyzed the result from all the models. The real part of complex dielectric values of unknown craters near Malapert crater (PSRs SP 83260 0090770 and SP 841420 0059530) and Faustini crater (PSR SP 871460 0840750) were high in certain sections of the region and moderate in others. The high dielectric values of 11.2 and 10.9 were estimated by the two-dimensional Gaussian and Exponential model for the right-side walls of the PSRs SP 83260 0090770 and SP 841420 0059530, respectively. For three-dimensional Gaussian and Exponential models, the same region but with fewer pixels showed high dielectric values of approximately. However, the estimated dielectric value for the left side wall was around 3.4 for two-dimensional models and 2.3 for three-dimensional models. On the left side of the region, the PSR SP 871460 0840750 had high dielectric values of 10.6 and 10.2, as calculated by the two-dimensional Gaussian and Exponential models and approximately 13 for the three-dimensional models. The right side of the region showed approximately 3.6 dielectric values for two-dimensional models and 4 for three-dimensional models. We noticed that some pixel values showed ambiguous dielectric values (<1) during the retrieval and validation process, notably in three-dimensional models, which could be linked to incidence angle variability and model sensitivity. This indicates the model's limitation and is treated as outliers, which we rectified by optimizing the threshold. This study outlines a method for identifying high-quality recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) obtained after mechanical treatment. In the present approach, the physical and mechanical properties of RCA are considered as quality parameters. As a first step, mechanically treated (Los Angeles) RCA is produced with 28 combinations of charges and drum revolutions. Twenty-eight sets of mechanically treated RCA are produced, each with different physical and mechanical properties. Furthermore, the 28 sets of RCAs are compared using the performance-based quality optimization approach. The performance index for each set of RCAs is calculated applying a multicriteria decision-making approach named "technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution." This approach considers physical and mechanical properties as a response and the combination of charges and drum revolutions as alternatives to obtain the performance index of alternatives. Based on its performance, the leading rankings RCAs are selected for an experimental study to validate the methodology. As a result of RCA's optimized quality, recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) has excellent physical, mechanical, and durability characteristics that agree with natural aggregate concrete (NAC) composed of parent aggregate. The 28- and 91-day compressive strengths of RAC exceed those of NAC by 8.5% and 30.65%, respectively. Flexural strength, split tensile strength, fracture energy, ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) values, rapid chloride-ion penetration test values, water absorption, and abrasion resistance are comparable with NAC. The quality optimization approach identifies RCA with superior shape, texture, and elastic properties. An RCA with optimized qualities also strengthens the new interfacial transition zone and old interfacial transition zone as well as RAC's associated properties. The RAC's dynamic modulus of elasticity is superior to the reported values and is 0.95 fractions of NAC. Optimized quality of RCA reduces the sorptivity of RAC compared with the reported values. The RAC may not have equivalent sorptivity to NAC without lowering RCA parts, whether mortar-attached, mortar-covered, or mortar-only type aggregate or applying other treatments that may increase the production cost. This research presents a standard procedure for identifying mechanically treated recycled concrete aggregate with properties (physical properties and mechanical properties) similar to those of the parent aggregate (natural aggregate). The method demonstrated in this study may be adapted to real-life worksite conditions—but not exactly. In Los Angeles abrasion machines, recycled concrete aggregates obtained from a source can be processed by varying drum revolutions and charges. Based on the charges and drum revolutions selected for treatment, treated recycled concrete aggregate can be prepared with different sets of physical and mechanical properties. Based on the present research, the physical and mechanical properties of treated recycled concrete aggregate can be compared between these sets. In this way, recycled concrete aggregates can be produced that resemble their parent aggregates. The flow through thin packed columns (diameter 7 mm −19 mm) with superhydrophobic (SH) lotus-leaf layered wall is investigated for its implications in drag reduction for chromatographic applications. The study includes measuring the flow rate for gravity driven flow through SH columns: packed and unpacked under different flow regimes. The flow is characterized in terms of the flow rate enhancement factor with respect to flow through smooth columns. Flow in SH packed column in presence of wall slip is modeled to evaluate slip length and friction factor based on the measured enhancement factor. Results establish an enhanced flow slippage in packed column with respect to unpacked column. For unpacked columns, slip length lies in the range reported previously 47–117 μm. For packed column it increases by 2.5 times (140–280 μm). The effects of slip manifest dramatically in the drag reduction which is as high as 40% for packed column compared to 3% for unpacked column. An efficient variant of the homotopy analysis method, namely the optimal homotopy analysis method (OHAM), has been presented for the solution of chemical process systems that are represented by the axial dispersion model. To show its efficiency OHAM has been successfully applied to one of the popular chemical engineering systems, i.e., axial dispersion model of a tubular chemical reactor sustaining nonlinear kinetics. The obtained optimal homotopy results have been shown to agree closely with the numerically obtained results. The usefulness of OHAM has further been illustrated by effectively capturing multiple solutions, which frequently arise in non-monotonic kinetics. Convergence of the so-obtained OHAM results has also been discussed. It is also worthwhile to mention that the presented methodology of OHAM, with slight modification, can easily be extended to other engineering systems not represented by the axial dispersion model. The Galapagos Archipelago in the Pacific Ocean, situated 1000 km from the Ecuadorian coast, has been considered one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites. Its geographical location, ongoing seismo_volcanic activities, and the island's extreme isolation have led to the development of a wide variety of unique plant and animal species, which inspired Charles Darwin's theory of evolution. La cumbre volcano is one of the most active volcanoes in the Galapagos archipelago and is situated closest to the mantle plume. Eruptions are frequent here, with a record of 30 eruptions since 1800. Recently La Cumbre volcano erupted on 2020 January 12, with 11 seismic tremors recorded on that day with a maximum magnitude of 4.7. The Small Baseline Subset (SBAS) is an advanced Differential Interferometric SAR technique used to generate the deformation time series from the sequence of SAR datasets with a reduced spatiotemporal decorrelation. It is one of the best approaches for monitoring and analyzing surface deformations from space with a millimeter level of accuracy. In this paper, we analyze the January 2020 eruption of the La cumbre volcano using the SBAS technique. 9 Sentinel-1C band SAR data granules from 2019 November 17 to 2020 February 21 were used to generate the deformation time series map for estimating the degree of deformation at the volcanic edifice. In this paper, we propose Lyapunov theory-based nonlinear guidance scheme to achieve an angle-constrained interception of a high-speed target (targets with speed advantage). An impact angle based classification between head-on and head-pursuit interception geometries is first proposed to uniquely match a desired impact angle to a corresponding desired line-of-sight (LOS) angle for successful target interception. The proposed guidance scheme comprises two phases, namely orientation and LOS tracking phases. The orientation phase corrects the interceptor's lead angle based on the desired interception geometry whenever required. The LOS tracking phase then enables the tracking of desired LOS angle by enforcing the error is LOS angle to converge onto a manifold with finite-time convergent properties. The applicability of the proposed guidance strategy is validated using numerical simulations for various engagement geometries, in the presence of autopilot, for constant speed as well as time-varying speed interceptors. We propose predefined-time consensus-based cooperative guidance laws for a swarm of interceptors to simultaneously capture a target capable of executing various kinds of motions. Unlike leader-follower cooperative guidance techniques, the swarm of interceptors has no leader and each interceptor executes its own guidance command in a distributive fashion, thus obviating the residency of the mission over a single interceptor. We first design cooperative guidance commands subject to target's mobility, followed by the same when the target is stationary, and also account for interceptors' changing topologies. We further show through rigorous analysis that the proposed cooperative guidance laws guarantee consensus in the interceptors' time-to-go values within a predefined-time. The proposed design allows a feasible time of consensus in time-to-go to be set arbitrarily at will during the design regardless of the interceptors' initial time-to-go values, thereby ensuring a simultaneous target interception. Abstract: Mechanical properties of any material are extensively influenced by the parameters such as strain, strain rate, temperature, and its composition. The characteristics of any material such as ductility, strain hardening, strength, dynamic recovery, grain growth, and recrystallization are greatly affected by the influence of various process parameters. So, it is essential to have the knowledge of the constitutive relationships that relate different process variables to flow stress of the deforming material which estimates various parameters such as load, energy, and stress in the metal forming operations. A consistent effort has been gone into developing the constitutive equations for the detailed mathematical description of the flow curves and the aforementioned parameters for years now. Soft computing tools that concern computation of an imprecise environment and model very complex systems those are based on input–output relationship have gained significant attention in recent years. The intricacies of the mathematical modeling of the mechanical properties of the material, enticed the artificial research community to take this as a challenge. One such soft computing tool neural network is applied in this field to predict the behavior accurately. In this paper, a hybrid neural network model better known as RSONFN (Recurrent Self-Organizing Neural Network Model) is applied to predict the flow stress for carbon steels. The RSONFN is having the advantages of the well-established technologies of the artificial intelligence tools such as Fuzzy logic to capture long range data sets and neural networks. The RSONFN structure is a dynamic one as the numbers of its layers as well as the numbers of nodes in each layer of the network are not predetermined. Such an attribute differentiate it from the Multilayer perceptron which is having static structure. The results obtained by this network prove its superiority over other existing tools. Specimens from nickel-based clad pipeline girth welds were tested in H 2 S solution. The results of the fatigue crack growth rate curve at higher Δ K values were about 4 times higher than the in-air values. The rate at 180 °C was generally higher than the in-air data for flaw assessments found in the British Standard BS7910 by a factor of up to 3 times. From the analyses of the diffusible hydrogen, the backing steel of such pipelines are predominantly protected from the sour environment by the corrosion-resistant alloy clad layer. Six inbred lines (RNOYR-14, RNOYR-15, RNOYR-16, RNOYR-17, RNOYR-18 and RNOYR-24) along with their fifteen half-diallel crosses were evaluated in a randomized block design with three replications during summer 2013 at Vegetable Research Station, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, India to determine the nature of gene action and combining ability for pod yield and its component characters of okra (Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench). Combining ability analysis revealed that both general combining ability (gca) and specific combining ability (sca) variances were highly significant for majority of the agro-economic traits indicating the importance of both additive and non additive gene actions. The ratio of gca variance (σ2gca) to sca variance (σ2sca) of less than unity (<1) indicating the preponderance of non-additive gene action involved in the inheritance of all the traits under study. Inbred line RNOYR-16 was the best general combiner, while cross combinations RNOYR-14×RNOYR-17, RNOYR-16×RNOYR-17 and RNOYR-17×RNOYR-18 were the high specific combiners for total and marketable yield. Artemisinin is highly effective against multidrug-resistant strains of Plasmodium falciparum, the aetiological agent of the most severe form of malaria. However, a low level of accumulation of artemisinin in Artemisia annua is a major limitation for its production and delivery to malaria endemic areas of the world. While several strategies to enhance artemisinin have been extensively explored, enhancing storage capacity in trichome has not yet been considered. Therefore, trichome density was increased with the expression of β-glucosidase ( bgl1) gene in A. annua through Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. Transgene ( bgl1) integration and transcript were confirmed by molecular analysis. Trichome density increased up to 20% in leaves and 66% in flowers of BGL1 transgenic plants than Artemisia control plants. High-performance liquid chromatography, time of flight mass spectrometer data showed that artemisinin content increased up to 1.4% in leaf and 2.56% in flowers (per g DW), similar to the highest yields achieved so far through metabolic engineering. Artemisinin was enhanced up to five-fold in BGL1 transgenic flowers. This study opens the possibility of increasing artemisinin content by manipulating trichomes' density, which is a major reservoir of artemisinin. Combining biosynthetic pathway engineering with enhancing trichome density may further increase artemisinin yield in A. annua. Because oral feeding of Artemisia plant cells reduced parasitemia more efficiently than the purified drug, reduced drug resistance and cost of prohibitively expensive purification process, enhanced expression should play a key role in making this valuable drug affordable to treat malaria in a large global population that disproportionally impacts low-socioeconomic areas and underprivileged children. Tensile and fracture tests were performed on nickel-based alloy clad pipelines girth welds using customised rigs to elevate the temperature. Fracture tests were performed using single edged notched bend (SENB) and single edged notched tension (SENT) specimens, both with notch depth ratio of 0.2. The tensile test results showed reduction in strength at elevated temperatures for base metal, weld metal and clad metal while the fracture resistance reduced by up to 0.6 times depending on the notch location and the specimen geometry. In this paper, sliding mode control-based impact time guidance laws are proposed. Even for large heading angle errors and negative initial closing speeds, the desired impact time is achieved by enforcing a sliding mode on a switching surface designed by using the concepts of collision course and estimated time-to-go. Unlike existing guidance laws, the proposed guidance strategy achieves impact time successfully even when the estimated interception time is greater than the desired impact time. Finite element method was used to document the effects of temperature, environment, crack location and weld strength mis-match on the fracture capacity of modern pipeline girth welds. The results demonstrated a marginal reduction (>0.83 times) in the crack driving force for pipelines operating in a sour environment or at elevated temperatures or for cracks located in the weld centerline than at the fusion line. The crack driving force is lower for under-matching than over-matching welds. Furthermore, the numerical method was compared with analytical method as per BS7910 and the results showed that the latter was more conservative for deeper cracks ( a / t > 0.4). Forests are important biomes covering a major part of the vegetation on the Earth, and as such account for seventy percent of the carbon present in living beings. The value of a forest’s above ground biomass (AGB) is considered as an important parameter for the estimation of global carbon content. In the present study, the quad-pol ALOS-PALSAR data was used for the estimation of AGB for the Dudhwa National Park, India. For this purpose, polarimetric decomposition components and an Extended Water Cloud Model (EWCM) were used. The PolSAR data orientation angle shifts were compensated for before the polarimetric decomposition. The scattering components obtained from the polarimetric decomposition were used in the Water Cloud Model (WCM). The WCM was extended for higher order interactions like double bounce scattering. The parameters of the EWCM were retrieved using the field measurements and the decomposition components. Finally, the relationship between the estimated AGB and measured AGB was assessed. Background. Percutaneous renal biopsy (PRB) can result in serious complications. The study is aimed to compare the biopsy yield and complications rate of the real-time ultrasonagram (USG)- guided PRB and needle tracking with and without needle guide in two different study periods. Methods. We compared the yield and complications of 2138 kidney biopsies performed in two different periods, 1510 biopsies during the first period from April 2004-December 2010 and 628 biopsies during second period from January 2011-March 2013. All biopsies in both periods were performed by nephrologists. Radiologists provided the real-time image without needle guide during the first period while nephrologists performed both imaging and biopsy with needle guide during the second period. Results. Of all the 2138 patients, 226 (10.5%) patients developed 118 minor and 108 major complications. Only 13 (2.1%) major complications occurred in the second period and 95 (6.7%) in the first period (P < 0.001). The relative risk of developing a major complication without guide was 3.04 times greater than that of the biopsies performed with use of the guide. The mean number of glomeruli per biopsy obtained during the second period (17.98 ± 6.75) was significantly greater than that of the first period (14.14 ± 6.01) (P = 0.004). The number of passes to acquire adequate tissue (P = 0.001) and percentage of cortex on biopsy (P = 0.001) were also significantly better in the second period. The optimal observation period post biopsy is 24 h. Conclusions. Real-time USG imaging supported by needle guide device is associated with better biopsy yield and fewer complications. Objectives: The objective was to investigate the effect of clozapine on spontaneous gamma activity in treatment-resistant bipolar psychotic mania. Methods: Patients with treatment-resistant (TR) bipolar psychotic mania on clozapine monotherapy and nontreatment-resistant bipolar psychotic mania patients receiving lithium were prospectively studied for 6 weeks on severity of psychopathology and 30-49 Hz gamma spectral power. Results: Spectral power significantly increased in the lithium group and decreased in the clozapine group; no within group significant difference found. Tensile and fracture specimens (pre-charged with H 2 S) were tested in solution using customised rigs. When comparing with uncharged specimens, the tensile test results showed significant reduction in ductility for base and weld metal. The fracture resistance test results showed similar reduction of ∼0.3 times in base and weld metals and heat affected zone. There was noticeable increase in yield and tensile strength in both base and weld metals, due to the effect of hydrogen. When using partially coated specimens, higher fracture resistance was obtained, with reduction of ∼0.4 times only. This was mainly contributed by crack tip hydrogen and less so by the bulk hydrogen. Introduction: We report the presentation, management, and outcome in five children with osteoarticular tuberculosis of distal radius. Patients: Patients were recruited in a prospective study. All patients underwent an open biopsy, curettage and diagnosis confirmed by histopathological/microbiological examination. In cavitary lytic lesions, bone grafting was also undertaken. The multidrug anti-tubercular chemotherapy was given for one year. Observations: Five patients were included in the study. The average follow-up post-completion chemotherapy was 34.8 months. Bony lesions presented as a poorly defined radiolucent lytic area in metaphysis, cavitary lytic lesions with or without sequestrum or spanned the physeal plate. At final follow-up, except for one case, a full pain free range of movements was achieved in all cases. Fibular graft was used in two cases with cavitary lesions and incorporated well in both cases. Conclusions: Tuberculosis can involve the adjacent physis and can be multifocal. The presentation is usually lytic with minimal sclerosis. For smaller ill defined lesions, curettage and multidrug anti-tubercular chemotherapy results in excellent outcome. This paper addresses the problem of controlling impact time against various types of target – stationary, constant velocity, or maneuvering. Analytical expression of time-to-go, that is exact for non-maneuvering target but approximate for maneuvering ones, is first presented based on true-proportional-navigation guidance concepts. Guidance strategies are then derived, using Lyapunov theory, to meet impact time constraints, without linearizing the engagement dynamics. Hence, the proposed strategies remain effective even for large initial heading errors. Further, a cooperative guidance strategy to achieve simultaneous target interception by multiple interceptors is also proposed. Guidance commands that ensure consensus among the time-to-go values of the interceptors are utilized for this purpose. Using judicious choices of gains, the common time of target interception may be either pre-fixed, or the same may be decided cooperatively during the engagement. Stability analysis of the possible equilibria in heading angle dynamics, for different choices of parameters, is also performed. Marker genes are essential for the selection and identification of rarely occurring transformation events generated in biotechnology. This includes plastid transformation, which requires that multiple copies of the modified chloroplast genome be present to obtain genetically stable transplastomic plants. However, the marker gene becomes dispensable when homoplastomic plants are obtained. Here, we demonstrate the precise excision of attP- and attB-flanked DNA from the plastid genome mediated by the large serine recombinase Bxb1. We transformed the tobacco plastid genome with the pTCH-PB vector containing a stuffer fragment of DNA flanked by directly oriented nonhomologous attP and attB recombinase recognition sites. In the absence of the Bxb1 recombinase, the transformed plastid genomes were stable and heritable. Nuclear-transformed transgenic tobacco plants expressing a plastid-targeted Bxb1 recombinase were crossed with transplastomic pTCH-PB plants, and the T1 hybrids exhibited efficient excision of the target sequence. Abstract: Analysis of a fuel processor based on methanol steam reforming has been carried out to produce fuel cell grade H2. Six reactor configurations namely FBR1 (fixed bed reactor), MR1 (H2 selective membrane reactor with one reaction tube), MR2 (H2 selective membrane reactor with two reaction tubes), FBR2 (FBR1+preferential CO oxidation (PROX) reactor), MR3 (MR1+PROX), and MR4 (MR2+PROX) are evaluated by simulation to identify the suitable processing scheme. The yield of H2 is significantly affected by H2 selective membrane, residence time, temperature, and pressure conditions at complete methanol conversion. The enhancement in residence time in MR2 by using two identical reaction tubes provides H2 yield of 2.96 with 91.25mol% recovery at steam/methanol ratio of 1.5, pressure of 2bar and 560K temperature. The exit retentate gases from MR2 are further treated in PROX reactor of MR4 to reduce CO concentration to 4.1ppm to ensure the safe discharge to the environment. The risk of carbon deposition on reforming catalyst is highly reduced in MR4, and MR4 reactor configuration generates 7.4NLmin−1 of CO free H2 from 0.12molmin−1 of methanol which can provide 470W PEMFC feedstock requirement. A linear constricting scar around the wrist in the presence of a discharging sinus raises clinical suspicion of a forgotten band around the wrist. A 3-year-old girl presented with an encircling scar, swelling and discharging sinus over the right wrist since last three months. There were no trophic ulcers and gross sensations were intact. Wrist radiographs showed the "constriction" sign in the radial epiphysis. MRI confirmed the diagnosis of encircling band inside wrist abutting the bone. A coloured rubber band was surgically extracted lying deep to restored and continuous tendons and neurovascular structures. Wound healing was uneventful. Examination at 14 months revealed residual ulnar nerve palsy. If aware, the clinical diagnosis is fairly accurate in rubber band syndrome. MRI aids in establishing diagnosis preoperatively. The reparative potential of a child's tissues is amazing. Although the lesion heals well after extraction of encircling band, the clinician should be wary of residual neurological changes. This work proposes two different cooperative integrated guidance and control schemes for a group of interceptors, each steered by combined effects of canard and tail aerodynamic surfaces, aiming a simultaneous interception of a non-maneuvering target. The first approach is based on a leader-follower framework, in which the time of interception can be prescribed before homing, while the second approach is of a leaderless framework, in which the time of interception is decided during engagement. The proposed integrated guidance and control design for multi-body engagement is carried out under nonlinear settings, with time-to-go formulations that relax the restrictive assumption of interceptors' small heading angles. This facilitates wide applicability of the proposed design in scenarios necessitating large terminal time requirements. In addition to the nonlinearity in kinematics of engagement and interceptors' dynamics, effect of actuators are also considered, making the design suitable for practical implementation. Since canard and tail aerodynamic surfaces have different capabilities, a weighted effort allocation scheme is devised to apportion the total effort in both control surfaces in a suitable manner. Abstract: The thermodynamic analysis of steam reforming of methanol without and with fractional removal of H2 and CO2 in adsorption, membrane and adsorption-membrane hybrid reactor systems to produce fuel cell grade H2 with minimal carbon formation is investigated. The results indicate that the removal of undesired CO2 by CO2 adsorbent is most effective process for the production of high purity H2 than H2 removal by membrane. However, the membrane is effective only above 30% H2 removal. It is possible to obtain H2 yield of 2.6 with negligibly small amount of CO and carbon formation at T = 405 K, P = 1 atm, 80% removal of CO2 and 100% methanol conversion. Identical results are achieved even at lower temperature of 345 K in adsorption-membrane hybrid reactor system at 80% removal of H2 and CO2. Thus high grade H2 can be produced by single step process and further processing to reduce CO by PROX reactor is not necessary. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Hydrogen production by oxidative steam reforming of methanol in a fixed bed catalytic reactor was modeled and simulated. The addition of O2 to feed reduced the temperature in the reformer. 99.86% conversion was obtained at 550 K and S/C molar ratio of unity in steam reforming while it is at 540 K in oxidative steam reforming. Although H2 and CO yields were decreased in oxidative steam reforming in comparison to steam reforming, the reductoin H2 yield was note significant whereas reduction in CO was appreciably high. The thermal and exergy efficiencies were favored by reforming temperature and S/C molar ratios. However, variation in S/C molar ratio showed negligibly small effect on efficiencies. The reforming temperature had a notable influence on the efficiencies. The exergy destruction was found to be lower at higher temperature and S/C molar ratio. Thus, oxidative steam reforming of methanol at 540 K and S/C molar ratio of unity utilizes sufficient amount of input energy in the form of useful work and thermodynamic irreversibilities in the reactor are quantitatively small. In this study the exact analytical solution of the lumped parameter model of a nonlinear heat transfer process representing the transient convective-radiative cooling of a spherical body has been obtained. The process is governed by a nonlinear ordinary differential equation, and the exact analytical solution has been found in the implicit form of an elementary transcendental function. The obtained exact analytical solution not only yields accurate results but also successfully simulates a recent experimental study of cooling of metallic ball bearings by the combined mechanism of convection and radiation. In addition, the exact explicit solution for a simplified case of the above problem, recently tackled by several researchers in various approximate ways, has also been found. These exact solutions are quite appealing since they are accurate and superior to the available approximate solutions, provide better insight of the physical process, and can also serve as yardsticks for future testing of the approximate solutions.
