Background: Pulsed‐dye lasers (PDL) are one of the standard therapies for rosacea, but alternatives are needed. Aims: To compare the efficacy and safety of the variable‐sequenced, large‐spot 532 nm KTP laser to the 595 nm PDL in treating rosacea. Materials and Methods: A prospective, controlled, evaluator‐blinded study. Patients were treated with either a KTP or PDL with 1–3 sessions at intervals of 6–8 weeks. A follow‐up visit was scheduled on Week 6 post‐treatment. Clinical outcome was assessed by computer‐assisted analysis and by patients and two blinded dermatologists. Pain intensity during treatment and adverse events were documented. Results: Forty‐five patients (mean age 51 years) were allocated in a 2:1 ratio to either the KTP or PDL. Erythema in both treatment arms decreased significantly (p < 0.01). Clinical evaluation revealed high improvement. Mean pain intensity was significantly lower with the KTP (2.5/10) than with the PDL (4.1/10). Both lasers showed a good safety profile. Relevant purpura was only seen in the PDL group. Conclusions: Both the variable‐sequenced, large‐spot KTP and the PDL demonstrated comparable efficacy in treatment of rosacea. Regarding safety, the KTP exhibited fewer post‐treatment reactions. Background: Acne vulgaris is a common inflammatory disease associated with various sequelae after skin lesion remission. Acne erythema has been considered simple erythema or a vascular lesion; however, because the understanding of this disease has improved, acne erythema is currently considered an early scar with erythematous components. Aims: This study evaluated the efficacy of using both a 595‐nm pulsed dye laser (PDL) and 1565‐nm nonablative fractional laser (NAFL) for the treatment of erythematous scars caused by acne. Methods: Ninety patients with acne scars were equally randomized to two groups. Group A (n = 45) received treatment with the NAFL. Group B (n = 45) received treatment with the PDL and NAFL. Each patient underwent one treatment session and 4 weeks of follow‐up. Results: Qualitative (χ2 = 12.415; p < 0.05) and quantitative (t = 2.675; p < 0.05) scores of Groups A and B were determined using a global scarring grading system and exhibited statistically significant differences. The quantitative score of Group A was higher than that of Group B (6.67 ± 3.46 vs. 4.98 ± 2.44). The erythema areas of the groups differed significantly after treatment, with Group B exhibiting more notable score improvements (5.00 [3.10, 7.10] vs. 2.80 [1.65, 4.60]; Z = 3.072; p < 0.05). The erythema regression rate of Group B (88.9%) was significantly higher than that of Group A (66.7%) (χ2 = 20.295; p < 0.001). Adverse events, including redness and swelling (86.6%), scabbing (78.8%), and purpura (36.6%), occurred within 7 days for 86.6% of patients. A concise and efficient synthetic protocol for the synthesis of furan-based bis-stilbene derivatives (BPBFCz1) was described, which is a very promising organic laser dye. Starting with 4,4'-diethynylbiphenyl, BPBFCz1 was prepared with a total yield of 40% through a three-step classical reaction of Sonogashira Coupling, intramolecular cyclization of 2-alkynyl phenol, and Buchwald Hartwig cross-coupling. The crystal structure of BPBFCz1 was presented for the first time. Previous clinical studies have shown that pulsed dye laser (PDL) and intense pulsed light (IPL) are effective for treating erythematotelangiectatic rosacea(ETR). This article aims to compare the efficacy and safety of PDL and IPL at three different wavelength bands (broad-band, single-narrow-band, and dual-narrow-band) in treating ETR. Sixty subjects with ETR were randomly categorized into four groups and received one of the following laser treatments: PDL (595 nm), IPL with Delicate Pulse Light (DPL, 500–600 nm), IPL with M22 590 (590–1200 nm), or IPL with M22 vascular filter (530–650 nm and 900–1200 nm). Four treatment sessions were administered at 4-week intervals, with one follow-up session 4 weeks after the final treatment. The efficacy of the four lasers was evaluated by comparing the clinical symptom score, total effective rate, VISIA red area absolute score, and RosaQoL score before and after treatment. The safety was evaluated by comparing adverse reactions such as pain, purpura, erythematous edema, and blister. All 60 subjects completed the study. Within-group effects showed that the clinical symptom score, VISIA red area absolute score, and RosaQoL score of all four groups were significantly reduced compared to before treatment (p < 0.001). Between-group effects showed no statistically significant difference among the four laser groups. Safety analysis showed that all four lasers were safe, but the incidence of blister was higher in the M22 vascular group. Background: Pulsed dye lasers (PDL) are currently the first‐line treatment of port‐wine birthmarks (PWB). Due to high maintenance costs and instable technology, alternative methods are needed. Objectives: To compare clinical outcomes of a variable‐sequenced, long‐pulsed 532‐nm potassium titanyl‐phosphate (KTP) laser and PDL on treating PWB. Methods: A prospective, randomized, split‐side study. Patients were treated with a KTP laser and PDL with 1 to 5 sessions at intervals of 6–8 weeks. A follow‐up visit was scheduled 6 weeks post‐treatment. Efficacy was evaluated through colorimetric analysis, area reduction measurements and clinical evaluations by two blinded investigators based on photo documentation. Subjects provided rating of pain intensity during treatment, post‐treatment reactions and satisfaction. Safety was measured by adverse events. Maintenance issues of the laser systems were documented. Results: A total of 35 patients (mean age 42.1 years) were enrolled. 63% were female. Patients received 2.4 (SD 1.4; 1–5) treatment sessions. Colorimetric analysis indicated a comparable clearance effect in PWB of both KTP laser and PDL. Independent investigators rated clinical appearance to be significantly improved compared to baseline. No significant difference was observed between both laser systems. Regarding post‐treatment reactions, the KTP laser caused less swelling, purpura and crusts. 96% would recommend both treatment modalities. Patients were satisfied with both laser systems. During the study, PDL systems malfunctioned for 6.6 months in total. For the KTP laser, we did not observe any system failures. Conclusion: Our data indicate that the KTP laser of the latest generation with large‐spot sizes, subpulse technology and cryogen cooling has a comparable efficacy to the PDL in treating PWB. In addition, KTP laser is associated with greater tolerability, fewer technical failures and lower repair costs. Liquid‐crystal random lasers (LCRLs) represent a burgeoning field in soft‐matter photonics, holding promise for ushering in an era of ultrathin, versatile laser sources. Such lasers encompass a multitude of remarkable features, including wide‐band tunability, large coherence area and, in some cases, multidirectional emission. In this paper, an LCRL is developed by doping a laser dye, pyrromethene 597 (PM597), into cholesteric LC, but achieving a wide‐range wavelength‐controllable (560–720 nm) bandgap lasing through voltage control. Bandgap lasing intriguingly occurs in media with extremely low dye gain, which is mainly contributed by the extremely high photon density of states (DOS) at the edge of the LC bandgap. In addition, the utilization rate of the fluorescence spectrum (550–750 nm) of laser dye PM597 is as high as 80%. The multivariate linear regression model is used to characterize the inherent relationship between the lasing intensity emitted by LC and the photon DOS, fluorescence quantum yield, and internal scattering under specific pumping energy. This model shows the potential to predict the critical conditions of laser emission accurately and provides the capability to design and fabricate large‐scale multifunctional responsive photonic crystals using a simple fabrication procedure. Advanced organoboron dyes, incorporating tetra‐boron difluoride (tetra‐BF2) moieties, are developed, demonstrating efficient electrochemiluminescence (ECL) emissions in the green to orange regions through direct ion annihilation. By introducing diverse alkyl modifications in the molecules, luminescence color tuning is achieved via alterations in conjugation and bending angle. A photoluminescence quantum yield of 100% in dilute solutions is successfully achieved. Notably, the introduction of alkyl groups to the methine side stabilizes the radical ionic state, resulting in a high ECL efficiency of 74% through an efficient radical‐ion annihilation pathway. The key factor is that the energy of the annihilation reaction exceeds the S1 energy required for luminescence. Spin density calculations further elucidate the substituent effects on the radical ions of complexes. Moreover, the lasing properties of these materials in the solution‐processed blend films are investigated, revealing a low amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) threshold (Eth) of 6.40 ± 0.24 µJ cm−2, which is notably lower among organic laser materials. This is attributed to their large Stokes shifts and high quantum yield. The excellent ECL and ASE performances establish these materials as a valuable addition to the existing library of organoboron dyes, offering fresh insights into the development of organic solid‐state lasers. Pulsed dye lasers are used effectively in the treatment of psoriasis with long remission time and limited side effects. It is, however, not completely understood which biological processes underlie its favorable outcome. Pulsed dye laser treatment at 585-595 nm targets hemoglobin in the blood, inducing local hyperthermia in surrounding blood vessels and adjacent tissues. While the impact of destructive temperatures on blood vessels has been well studied, the effects of lower temperatures on the function of several cell types within the blood vessel wall and its periphery are not known. The aim of our study is to assess the functionality of isolated blood vessels after exposure to moderate hyperthermia (45 to 60°C) by evaluating the function of endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells, and vascular nerves. We measured blood vessel functionality of rat mesenteric arteries (n=19) by measuring vascular contraction and relaxation before and after heating vessels in a wire myograph. To this end, we elicited vascular contraction by addition of either high potassium solution or the thromboxane analogue U46619 to stimulate smooth muscle cells, and electrical field stimulation (EFS) to stimulate nerves. For measurement of endothelium-dependent relaxation, we used methacholine. Each vessel was exposed to one temperature in the range of 45-60°C for 30 seconds and a relative change in functional response after hyperthermia was determined by comparison with the response per stimulus before heating. Non-linear regression was used to fit our dataset to obtain the temperature needed to reduce blood vessel function by 50% (Half maximal effective temperature, ET50). Our findings demonstrate a substantial decrease in relative functional response for all three cell types following exposure to 55°C-60°C. There was no significant difference between the ET50 values of the different cell types, which was between 55.9°C and 56.9°C (P>0.05). Our data show that blood vessel functionality decreases significantly when exposed to temperatures between 55°C-60°C for 30 seconds. The results show functionality of endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells, and vascular nerves is similarly impaired. These results help to understand the biological effects of hyperthermia and may aid in tailoring laser and light strategies for selective photothermolysis that contribute to disease modification of psoriasis after pulsed dye laser treatment. Lead in any food is harmful even at low concentrations. In this study, a direct and highly sensitive lead analysis technique was developed for wheat flour using laser-induced fluorescence combined with laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy. Wheat flour was pressed into small pellets and ablated by a low-energy ultraviolet 266-nm laser. A tunable dye laser constructed in our laboratory was used to resonantly excite the lead. The optimized interpulse time delay was 400 ns. A calibration curve was constructed and the detection limit for lead was 73.8 ppb. Background: Comedone extraction provides greater satisfaction for acne treatment than conventional treatment alone; however, post‐comedone extraction erythema (PCEE) remains a concern for patients. Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy of pulsed‐dye laser (PDL) in PCEE and comedone reduction. Methods: Mild‐to‐moderate acne patients were randomly allocated in split‐face fashion. Three comedones were extracted on each facial side. On the PDL‐treated side, 595‐nm PDL was delivered to the entire side with an additional shot on three comedone‐extracted sites. Erythema index (EI) and total acne lesion counts (TALC) were evaluated at baseline, week 2 and 4. The comprehensive acne severity scale (CASS) was assessed by three blinded independent pediatric dermatologists. Participant satisfaction surveys were completed at the end of the study. Results: Thirty‐five participants (age 12.9–24.2 years) showed no differences in the EI and TALC at baseline on both sides. At weeks 2 and 4, the EI on the PDL‐treated side was significantly lower (p < 0.001) with a greater EI reduction (p < 0.001) when compared to the control side regardless of gender and menstruation. There was significantly lower TALC on the PDL‐treated side at week 2 (p < 0.001) and week 4 (p = 0.02). No complications were noted with high participant satisfaction reported (median 8; IQR 7–9). PDL remained significantly associated with EI improvements after controlling for gender, menstruation cycle, and examination stress. Conclusion: PDL can be an adjunctive intervention for the treatment of PCEE and comedone reduction due to its effectiveness and high participant satisfaction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Xanthoma disseminatum is a rare form of non‐Langerhans cell histiocytosis with limited treatment options due to its unknown aetiology and diffuse skin lesions. This case report presents the successful treatment of a 31‐year‐old male with severe pan‐facial xanthoma disseminatum lesions following a facial burn and traumatic brain injury resulting from a car accident. After 5 sessions of monthly pulsed dye laser treatment, there was a clinically significant reduction in the lesions. Over the course of 3 years, the patient underwent a series of monthly pulsed dye laser treatments, and the lesions were almost cleared. These findings suggest that pulsed dye laser therapy may offer an effective treatment option for managing xanthoma disseminatum. Plantar warts are common skin lesions that continue to represent a therapeutic challenge. They are still resistant to therapy and are highly recurrent, despite the diverse number of treatments available. Therapies targeting vasculature, such as pulsed dye laser, have been used successfully in the treatment of plantar warts. Polidocanol, a detergent sclerosant approved for the sclerotherapy of incompetent and dilated saphenous veins, has also been used as an off-label therapy for a wide range of skin conditions with vascular components such as hemangiomas and pyogenic granuloma. The current, open-label, prospective, pilot study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the intralesional polidocanol 3% in the treatment of plantar warts. Twenty patients (11 females and 9 males), with plantar warts, aged 12–50 years received biweekly sessions of intralesional polidocanol 3% until complete clearance or for a maximum of 6 sessions. Response to treatment was graded as complete (100% clearance), partial (50–99%), and no response (< 50%). At the end of the study, 12 (60%) patients achieved complete clearance of their warts after 1–5 sessions, 5 (25%) patients had only partial response, and 3 (15%) patients did not achieve any clearance of their warts. The procedure was largely tolerable by patients. Pain at the injection site and bruises were reported by 9 (45%) and 2 (10%) patients, respectively. Both side effects resolved spontaneously and completely within a few days. The findings of the current study suggest that intralesional injection of 3% polidocanol in biweekly sessions may be a safe, effective, and tolerable method for the treatment of plantar warts. Fluorescence-detected multidimensional electronic spectroscopy (fMES) promises high sensitivity compared to conventional approaches and is an emerging spectroscopic approach toward combining the advantages of MES with the spatial resolution of a microscope. Here, we present a visible white light continuum-based fMES spectrometer and systematically explore the sensitivity enhancement expected from fluorescence detection. As a demonstration of sensitivity, we report room temperature two-dimensional coherence maps of vibrational quantum coherences in a laser dye at optical densities of ∼2–3 orders of magnitude lower than conventional approaches. This high sensitivity is enabled by a combination of biased sampling along the optical coherence time axes and a rapid scan of the pump–probe waiting time T at each sample. A combination of this approach with acousto-optic phase modulation and phase-sensitive lock-in detection enables measurements of room temperature vibrational wavepackets even at the lowest ODs. Alternative faster data collection schemes, which are enabled by the flexibility of choosing a non-uniform undersampled grid in the continuous T scanning approach, are also demonstrated. Purpose: The mainstay of treatment for nonmelanoma skin cancer (NMSC) on thin skin remains surgical, but procedures on older hands may be complicated by skin fragility and dermal atrophy. Used without cooling, 595 nm (nm) pulsed dye laser (PDL) has the capability of destroying NMSC through nonspecific thermal necrosis. The purpose of this study was to understand recurrence of NMSC on dorsal hands of older patients after one or two treatments using 595 nm PDL. Methods: A retrospective chart review identified 147 cases of NMSC located on the dorsal hands treated with 595 nm PDL. Cases of basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) and squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) were included. All patients received one to two treatments with PDL. The primary outcome was the recurrence of carcinoma. Results: Among NMSC cases treated with PDL, recurrence occurred in 12 patients (8.2%). No cases of BCC recurred during the study period. Recurrence of SCC was 4.7% for SCC in situ and 10.4% recurrence for invasive SCC (p = 0.34). Among 71 patients treated once, recurrence occurred in 10 patients (14.1%), and among 76 cases treated twice, recurrence occurred in 2 patients (2.6%, p = 0.01). Conclusion: Two treatments of PDL for NMSC on the dorsal hands of older patients was well tolerated, had low recurrence, and seemed more effective than one treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background Sturge–Weber syndrome (SWS) is a rare condition associated with a GNAQ gene mutation, which affects neural crest cells. A pulsed dye laser (PDL) is a first-line therapy for SWS, but its outcomes are worse than those in patients with port-wine stains (PWS). Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a promising therapeutic option for PWS. However, its use for PWS associated with SWS has rarely been studied. Aims To investigate the therapeutic and adverse effects of photodynamic therapy in treating SWS–associated PWS. Methods Patients with SWS and matched patients with large size facial PWS were included in this study. Both colorimetric assessment and visual evaluation were conducted to evaluate patients' responses to treatment. Results Colorimetric assessment (blanching rate) and visual evaluation (scores of colour improvement) showed that after two PDT treatments, the SWS and PWS groups had similar treatment responses (21.2% vs. 29.8%; 3.39 vs. 3.65; P = 0.18, P = 0.37). However, there was a significant difference in efficacy between patients with SWS with and without a treatment history (12.4 and 34.9%, respectively; P = 0.02), as well as between patients with lesions located on the central and lateral faces (18.5 and 36.8%, respectively; P = 0.01). Both the SWS and PWS groups experienced minor adverse effects, and the frequency of these effects was not significantly different between the two groups. Limitation The study was limited by a small sample size and the possibility of later onset of glaucoma. In addition, false-negative magnetic resonance imaging screening results for SWS could not be ruled out due to the young age of some participants. Conclusion Photodynamic therapy is a safe and effective therapeutic option for SWS–associated PWS. Lidar observations of metal layers play a significant role in research on the chemistry and dynamics of the mesosphere and lower thermosphere. This work reports on Fe lidar observations conducted in Beijing and Mohe. Utilizing the same laser emission system, a 1064 nm seed laser was injected into an Nd: YAG laser to generate a single longitudinal-mode pulse 532 nm laser, which pumped a dye laser to produce a 572 nm laser. The 572 nm laser and the remaining 1064 nm fundamental frequency laser passed through a sum–frequency module to generate a 372 nm laser to detect the Fe layer. According to a total of 52.6 h of observations for 10 nights in Beijing, the Fe layer has an average column density of 1.24 × 1010 cm−2, an RMS width of 4.4 km and a centroid altitude of 89.4 km. In Mohe, observed for 16 nights and a total of 91.5 h, the Fe layer has an average column density of 1.08 × 1010 cm−2, an RMS width of 4.6 km and a centroid altitude of 89.5 km. The probability of the occurrence of sporadic Fe layers was 42.4% in Beijing and 29.4% in Mohe. Compared to simultaneously observed Na layers, the occurrence probabilities of sporadic Fe layers were higher than those of sporadic Na layers in both stations. Based on the two cases observed in Beijing, it is conjectured that the formation mechanism of sporadic metal layers above approximately 100 km has a more significant influence on sporadic Fe layers than on sporadic Na layers. The lower thermospheric Fe layers with densities significantly larger than those of the main layer were observed during two nights in Mohe. The optical properties of Malachite green (Mg) dye were examined experimentally, including absorption, optical energy gab, refractive index, dielectric constant, optical conductivity and emission spectra in various solvents. Additionally, several significant photophysical parameters were evaluated, including the extinction coefficient (ε), the energy yield of fluorescence (Ef), the length of attenuation Λ (λ), oscillator strength (f), quantum yield (Øf), fluorescence lifetime ( τ f ), decay rate radiative constant (kr), and the dipole moment (μ) in addition to absorption and emission cross-sections (σa) and (σe) respectively. Port wine birthmarks (PWB) are capillary vascular malformations within the papillary and reticular dermis, most commonly occurring on the head and neck and may darken and thicken with age. Pulsed dye laser (PDL) is the gold standard of treatment for PWB as it selectively targets involved vessels. Sirolimus is a macrolide antibiotic that selectively inhibits mammalian target of rapamycin, thereby suppressing the angiogenesis pathways that can be activated by PDL. Sirolimus and PDL may be used together to treat PWB. We present a case series describing three cases of delayed ulceration and systemic sirolimus absorption following combination therapy, highlighting a potential complication and patient safety concern. Simultaneous, planar laser-induced fluorescence (PLIF) of nitric oxide (NO) and hydroxyl radical (OH) is evidenced with a single dye laser and two intensified CCD (ICCD) cameras. The technique is demonstrated on three premixed turbulent hydrogen-air flames, at atmospheric conditions, with several laser excitation wavelengths within the A 2Σ+ − X 2Π (0,0) and A 2Σ+ − X 2Π (1,0) vibrational bands of NO and OH, respectively. Via adjustments of the grating angle of the dye laser, the output wavelengths can be optimized so that both LIF signals are obtained simultaneously, or it can be tuned to reach the most common excitation wavelengths for OH-PLIF (i.e., near 283 or 284 nm) or NO-PLIF (i.e., 225 and 226 nm) alternatively. The flame visualization results, obtained with the different excitation strategies, are consistent for the three flame conditions and enable to characterize both the reaction zones and the nitric oxide formation. With appropriate selection of the wavelength pair, the technique shows its great potential to enhance the ability of existing lasers to simultaneously visualize and quantify distributions of two key species in reacting flows with only a single laser. Pulsed dye laser (PDL) is the most commonly used method for port-wine stain (PWS); however, no studies have reported the safety of PDL. This review aimed to collect and summarize complications reported in relevant literature, assess complication rates in treating PWS with PDL, and explore the relevant influencing factors. A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to search for related studies in PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library until August 2022. Two reviewers independently evaluated the risk of bias of included studies. Stata Software version 17.0 was used for the analysis. All complications reported in the literature are divided into acute phase complications and long-term complications. Overall pooled purpura, edema, crusting, blistering, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, and scarring rates were 98.3%, 97.6%, 21.5%, 8.7%, 12.8%, 0.9%, and 0.2%, respectively. Although the acute adverse reactions were found to be common, the long-term permanent complications clearly have a lower frequency, and the occurrence of scarring is much lower than that initially thought. This indicates that effective protective measures after treatment are very important for preventing scar formation. Two-color lasing emission from an asymmetric structure, consisting of two dye-doped cholesteric liquid crystal (DD-CLC) layers separated by a transparent interlayer, is demonstrated. The DD-CLC mixtures have different reflection bands with long-wavelength band edges located at the green and red wavelengths of the visible spectrum, respectively. For the laser action, the CLC hosts provide the feedback, and the fluorescent laser dyes represent the active medium. When the stacked structure is optically pumped above the threshold, two simultaneous laser lines separated by 123 nm are observed at the long-wavelength band edges of the DD-CLC mixtures. The influence of an electric field on lasing behavior is also analyzed and discussed in terms of the reflection spectrum and laser action. The results show a reversible tuning of the reflection band, accompanied by a modification of the lasing characteristics under the application of an external field. Above a specific threshold voltage, one of the emission lines is suppressed and the other is conserved. With a further increase in the voltage, both laser emissions are entirely inhibited. The investigated structure demonstrates a simple technique to obtain an electrically tunable multi-wavelength laser, which might pave the way for a new generation of organic laser sources. Background: Post-burn hypertrophic scar and keloid are challenging problems. Intense pulsed light (IPL) vascular filter (550–1200nm) has a similar effect to the pulsed dye laser 585nm in management of the same cutaneous applications. Methods: This prospective comparative study was conducted on 34 patients with post-burn hypertrophic scars and keloid. The lesions were irradiated, using an IPL filter 550–1100 nm, 20 ms pulse duration, and fluence of 34 J/cm2. Sessions done every 2 weeks over a period of 6 months. The follow-up was scheduled for 1 month and 6 months. Evaluation methods were both subjective by the Vancouver scar scale (VSS) and objective by the skin imaging analysis system. Results: Patients received 12 sessions. Erythema was the first sign to show improvement after the second session while itching was the first symptom which showed improvement followed by pain and finally improvement in the range of movement. The improvement of the VSS was higher in the hypertrophic scars than the keloid group (P˂ 0.001). Conclusions: IPl proved its efficacy in the treatment of post-burn hypertrophic scars and keloid. Integrated optofluidic devices have become subjects of high interest for rapid biosensor devices due to their unique ability to combine the fluidic processing of small volumes of microfluidics with the analysis capabilities of photonic structures. By integrating dynamically reconfigurable optofluidic lasers on-chip, complex coupling can be eliminated while further increasing the capabilities of sensors to detect an increasing number of target biomarkers. Here, we report a polydimethylsiloxane-based device with two on-chip fluidic distributed feedback (DFB) laser cavities that are integrated with an orthogonal analyte channel for multiplexed fluorescence excitation. One DFB grating is filled with 4-(dicyanomethylene)-2-methyl-6-(4-dimethylaminostyryl)-4H-pyran dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide. The second grating is filled with rhodamine 6G dissolved in a diluted ethylene glycol solution. We present characterization of both lasers through analysis of the lasing spectra for spectral narrowing along with a power series to observe threshold behavior. We then demonstrate simultaneous detection of two different fluorescent microbeads as a proof of concept for scalable, single biomarker analysis using on-chip optofluidic lasers. The purpose of this study is to determine the efficacy and safety of 595-nm pulsed dye laser (PDL) for port wine stains (PWS) treatment in Vietnamese patients. The study also analyzed the association between the response to treatment and the characteristics of patients and treatment regimens. Parallelly, the study contributed to further optimal treatment sessions for different subjects based on the data collected. One hundred twenty-five patients who underwent 595-nm PDL to treat PWS were included in the study, in which data from 124 patients was retrospectively analyzed. Data on demographic characteristics of patients, treatment regimens, and clinical improvement were collected. SPSS version 25 was used to analyze the relationship between associated factors and the response rate. The overall response rate of Vietnamese patients who had Fitzpatrick skin classification type III and IV was 73.4%. Age, gender, treatment sessions, and lesion positions were generally not associated with the response rate. The lesion grade was the sole element that affected the clinical improvement. The lesion grade 1 had the best response (100%) even after a short duration of treatment (six to ten treatments). Lesion grade 4 demanded over 16 treatments to reach > 60% of improvement. The lesion grades 1 and 2 could be blanched with regimen < 10 treatments while regimens exceeding 15 treatments should be carefully considered for lesions at grade 3 after evaluating associated conditions. Lesions at grade 4 demanded ≥ 16 treatments to reach acceptable outcomes. These results could help physicians establish a reasonable treatment strategy for patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The high recurrence rate after nonsurgical treatment of keloid is a major challenge for clinicians. Although there are many existing treatment options, how to optimize and upgrade the existing options and make a reasonable combination of utilization is our concern. The aim of this study is to provide a comprehensive non‐surgical treatment for keloid—cocktail therapy. Methods: According to the different changes of keloid with treatment, the treatment was divided into four stages, and different treatment schemes were adopted for each stage. The incidence of side effects of keloid at each stage and the effective rate and cure rate 16 months after the end of treatment were analyzed. Results: All patients completed this study on time, and were followed up 16 months after the end of treatment, the treatment effective rate was 100%, and the cure rate was up to 92.8%. Introduction: An excessive proliferation of fibroblasts and collagen synthesis after an injury may lead to a benign fibrous tumor, known as keloid, which does not regress spontaneously. Earlobes are a very frequent site of onset, since after a trauma (i.e., piercing) keloids may develop either on the helix and on the anterior or posterior lobe, from a few months up to several years after the injury. Objectives: To report the effectiveness of a combined protocol of CO2 laser + Dye laser + a portable Blue LED Light medical device for Photobiomodulation Therapy (EmoLED®). Methods: Fifty‐two patients with a total of 56 ear keloids have been treated in the same session with a single CO2 laser procedure + a pulsed Dye laser procedure with an adjunctive EmoLED® procedure for 3 up to 6 min. A monthly follow‐up has been performed with an adjunctive EmoLED® session in case of signs of inflammation. Results: Among 56 treated keloids, 89.3% of them (50/56) did not recur during a follow‐up period (from 6 up to 24 months, mean 16.3 months) while six keloids recurred (6/56, 10.7%) with mild thickening of the scar, thus requiring further treatments. Conclusions: Even if an excellent outcome obtained by the synergistic effect of combined laser treatments has already been described (i.e., CO2 laser + Dye Laser), the present study showed the adjuvant procedure with EmoLED® can reduce significantly the risk of keloids recurrences. Background: Patients with keloids are often younger than 30 years old and have darker skin. Aim: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of CO2 laser therapy in the management of earlobe and helix keloids in dark subjects. Methods: A total of 21 dark patients (five men and 16 women) presented with the earlobe and ear helix keloids, with a mean age of 30.5 (±6.7) years and with phototype between III–VI, were enrolled. In order to improve their earlobe and helix keloids, all patients underwent a single session of CO2 laser therapy immediately followed by a pulsed Dye laser procedure. A single well‐experienced doctor performed all treatment sessions and the response to treatment. Patients were followed‐up for 6 months after termination of therapy. Clinical images were examined and collected: all patients were examined clinically and with Dermoscopy. Results: The majority of the patients treated show complete remission of keloid lesions. Clinical photographs show a visible aesthetic improvement of several types of keloids in dark subjects. Conclusions: Our data demonstrate that this combined laser therapeutic protocol appears to be effective and well tolerated for the management of earlobe and helix keloids in dark subjects, with no high recurrence rate and avoiding the adverse effects and lengthy recovery time. Facial and neckline telangiectasias have an underestimated yet important impact on quality of life of patients with systemic scleroderma (SSc). This monocentric, prospective, open-label, intra-patient comparative study was conducted in 21 consecutive patients with SSc. Patients underwent 4 sessions of PDL 8 weeks apart. A final quadruple assessment was performed by several raters 2 months after the last session, based on the following criteria: change in telangiectasia number; subjective improvement score (LINKERT scale); impact on the quality of life (QoL; SKINDEX score); visual analog pain scale; adverse effects (AEs), including treatment discontinuation for PDL-induced purpura and patient satisfaction. The mean telangiectasia number decreased by 5 (32%) at the end of the protocol. Eighteen patients (85.7%) reported an improvement or a strong improvement, versus 73.81% for the expert committee. Immediate session pain (mean = 3.4/10) was slightly less than overall pain (mean = 4.6/10). Ten patients (47%) experienced at least one AE (oozing/crusts, edema, epidermal blistering), including PDL-induced purpura in 3 patients (14%). Port-Wine Stains are a congenital vascular malformation that affect 0.3–0.5% of newborns. It is a benign capillary malformation that commonly occurs on the head and neck. It is formed by progressive dilation of the post-capillary venules, and as the patient ages it may be associated with hypertrophy and nodularity which can lead to cosmetic disfigurement and psychological aggravation. There are many choices of treatment such as cryosurgery, cosmetic tattooing, and dermabrasion, amongst others. The treatment of choice is pulse dye laser (PDL) because it is both effective and safe to use. In darker skin types (Fitzpatrick skin types IV–VI), treatment is more difficult. Caution when treating darker skin types with PDL comes from the fact that there is an inverse correlation between vessel specificity of the PDL and skin pigmentation. In this review, we will be reviewing the literature and discussing the manuscripts that describe the treatment of PWS on patients with fitzpatrick skin type IV–VI. Authors searched the PubMed Medline in the English language from database inception through December 2022 for eligible articles. The keywords searched included "PDL," "pulse dye laser," "skin of color," "Fitzpatrick skin types IV–VI," "fitzpatrick," "pigmented skin," "Port-wine stain," "PWS", and "pulse dye laser." The articles that were included discussed PDL in the treatment of PWS in patients of skin of color. Any additional similar articles that were cited in our search were also included. Articles that were excluded did not discuss Fitzpatrick skin types IV–VI, darker skin type, or PDL. Data collected from each article included the number of participants, Fitzpatrick skin type, age, and laser parameters. There were 120 articles that were reviewed from our search and a total of nine articles met inclusion criteria with 241 patients that were considered Fitzpatrick skin type IV–VI. The patients were of a wide range of ages from 1 month to 74 years old. In our review, patients who are treated at a younger age had better results than when treated at an older age. The results show that darker skin individuals have better results when treated at a younger age compared to adults, they can experience complete resolution. Adults who were treated saw a variation of results, from improvements in the appearance to hyperpigmentation/hypopigmentation or scarring of the treated area. Patients who are Fitzpatrick skin type IV–VI are at higher risk of adverse events when treated with PDL for PWS when compared to patients of other skin types. Studies show that PDL can be beneficial for PWS in patients of skin of color; however, there are risks of hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, and scarring that are important to take into consideration when treating these patients. Background/purpose: Riehl's melanosis is a difficult‐to‐treat condition characterized by persisting dermal hyperpigmentation. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of a histology‐specific targeted therapy for Riehl's melanosis. Methods: Skin biopsy samples of Riehl's melanosis were assessed to identify histology‐specific targets for treatment. Subsequently, the efficacy of a combination involving a fractional picosecond laser and a pulsed dye laser (PDL) targeting the dermal melanin and vessels, respectively, was evaluated. Clinical improvement was assessed using the dermal pigmentation area and severity index (DPASI). The treatment outcomes were compared to those of a control, in this case a single laser treatment solely targeting pigmentation. Results: Histological and immunohistochemical analyses identified dermal melanin pigment and dilated vessels as treatment targets for Riehl's melanosis. The combined treatment of the fractional picosecond laser and PDL showed a significant reduction of the DPASI scores, which was significantly better than the control group. Patients who underwent the combined laser treatment indicated high levels of satisfaction with no adverse events except of transient erythema and oedema. Conclusion: The combined treatment of a fractional picosecond laser and a PDL was more effective for Riehl's melanosis compared to single laser treatment. This article discusses the treatment of erythromelanosis follicularis faciei et colli (EFFC) with a 595-nm pulsed dye laser (PDL). EFFC is a condition characterized by telangiectasia, hyperpigmentation, and follicular papules on the face and neck, with a higher prevalence among individuals of Asian ancestry. Current treatments for EFFC are limited in efficacy, but this study presents three cases where treatment with the 595-nm PDL resulted in significant improvement. The PDL works by targeting blood vessels and melanin, and its integration of dynamic cooling technology reduces the risk of post-treatment pigmentation. However, the mechanism by which the PDL improves follicular plugging is not yet clear. Two-color (1 + 1′) zero-electron-kinetic-energy (ZEKE) and photoionization efficiency (PIE) spectra are reported via different levels in the S1 ← S0 ( A ̃ 1 A 2 ← X ̃ 1 A 1 ) one-photon transition of jet-cooled N-methylpyrrole. The laser radiation is produced using two dye lasers, one with an 1800 l/mm grating and one with 2400 l/mm. We report spectra where the excitation and ionization radiation are produced with both combinations of the dye lasers; these spectra differ markedly. This is attributed to Wood's anomalies with the 2400 l/mm grating: one aspect is a loss in light intensity over a range of wavelengths, attributed to a resonance anomaly. Another is the appearance of a "shadow" ZEKE spectrum and PIE curve at apparently higher ionization wavenumbers; under some conditions, a third ZEKE spectrum was observed—these latter observations arise from higher-order dispersion effects, likely caused by a Rayleigh anomaly. We comment on these observations and report more representative ZEKE and PIE spectra than those presented in a recent paper by our group [A. R. Davies, D. J. Kemp, and T. G. Wright, J. Chem. We present a rapid-scanning approach to fluorescence-detected two-dimensional electronic spectroscopy that combines acousto-optic phase-modulation with digital lock-in detection. This approach shifts the signal detection window to suppress 1/f laser noise and enables interferometric tracking of the time delays to allow for correction of spectral phase distortions and accurate phasing of the data. This use of digital lock-in detection enables acquisition of linear and nonlinear signals of interest in a single measurement. We demonstrate the method on a laser dye, measuring the linear fluorescence excitation spectrum as well as rephasing, non-rephasing, and absorptive fluorescence-detected two-dimensional electronic spectra. Chronic nonhealing wounds Chronic nonhealing wounds are generally defined as wounds that do not heal in a predictable manner or wounds that do not heal within 3 months [[8]]. These refer to a large category of wounds including diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, wounds in those with impaired healing, burns, and even scars. A recent RCT randomized 20 patients total to undergo PBT at home with a pulsed near-infrared 808 nm laser or undergo sham laser treatment, and wound closure > 90% was significantly greater in those who underwent PBT treatment (70% vs 10%, p = 0.006) without any adverse effects seen [[14]]. A series of novel PAHs 1–4 and their derivatives were synthesized through a simple two‐step synthesis procedure involving an intramolecular reductive Friedel–Crafts cyclization of four newly synthesized pentacene aldehydes 5–8 as a key step. All the molecules were confirmed by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction and their photophysical and electrochemical properties were studied in detail. Interestingly, the most striking feature of 1–4 is their highly contorted carbon structures and the accompanying helical chirality. In particular, the optical resolution of 2 was successfully achieved by chiral‐phase HPLC, and the enantiomers were characterized by circular dichroism and circularly polarized luminescence spectroscopy. Despite the highly nonplanar conformations, these contorted PAHs exhibited emissive properties with moderate‐to‐good fluorescence quantum yields, implying the potential utility of this series PAHs as high‐quality organic laser dyes. By using a self‐assembly method with the help of epoxy resin, a bottle microlaser based on 3 a was successfully illustrated with a lasing wavelength of 567.8 nm at a threshold of 0.3 mJ/cm2. Background: Studies on pulsed dye laser (PDL) have shown the best efficacy and safety data for treating vascular anomalies among the various lasers used and the 595‐nm PDL has been used to treat cutaneous vascular anomalies for about 30 years. The purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy of 595 nm Pulsed Dye Laser in the management of facial flat angiomas present in the form of Port‐Wine Stain. Materials and Methods: Seven cases of PWS in Fitzpatrick skin type ranged from I to III and colour ranging from pink to purple, were treated with 595 nm pulse Dye Laser. Patients underwent to 6–8 laser sessions at 20–30 days intervals. Results obtained were judged by dermatologist, by comparing pre‐treatment and post‐treatment photographs, 6 months after the last session and a quartile scale of lesion clearance (4‐point Investigator Global Assessment scale): 1 = no or low results (0%–25% of the lesion area improved), 2 = slight improvement (25%–50% of the lesion area cleared), 3 = moderate‐good improvement (50%–75%), and 4 = excellent improvement (75%–100%) was used. Possible side effects such as blisters, hyper/hypopigmentation, and scarring were monitored. Results: All patients observed global improvements. 71% of patients achieved excellent clearance and 29% patients achieved good‐moderate clearance of their angioma. Patients were asked for a subjective evaluation of the results: 57% of patients were very satisfied, 29% were satisfied, and 14% patients were not very satisfied with the results. No patients were dissatisfied. No significant side effects were noted. Perylenediimide (PDI) compounds are widely used as the active units of thin-film organic lasers. Lately, PDIs bearing two sterically hindering diphenylphenoxy groups at the 1,7-bay positions have received attention because they provide a way to red-shift the emission with respect to bay-unsubstituted PDIs, while maintaining a good amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) performance at high doping rates. Here, we report the synthesis of a series of six PDI derivatives with different aryloxy groups (PDI 6 to PDI 10) or ethoxy groups (PDI 11) at the 1,7 positions of the PDI core, together with a complete characterization of their optical properties, including absorption, photoluminescence, and ASE. We aim to stablish structure-property relationships that help designing compounds with optimized ASE performance. Film experiments were accomplished at low PDI concentrations in the film, to resemble the isolated molecule behaviour, and at a range of increasing doping rates, to investigate concentration quenching effects. Compounds PDI 10 and PDI 7, bearing substituents in the 2′ positions of the benzene ring (the one contiguous to the linking oxygen atom) attached to the 1,7 positions of the PDI core, have shown a better threshold performance, which is attributed to conformational (steric) effects. Introduction: Port-wine stains (PWS) are congenital capillary abnormalities caused by immature, venule-like vasculature that progressively dilates due to poor endothelial cell differentiation. PWS affects between 0.3% and 0.9% of newborns, with 90% of cases occurring on the face. Individuals with facial PWS and their parents had a significant negative impairment on their quality of life (QoL) and also suffered from psychological disabilities. Methods: This was a cross-sectional questionnaire-based survey study in Thailand from July 2021 to April 2022. The questionnaires included demographic data, subjective evaluation (SE), and the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI). The questionnaire was performed with a full scale and adjusted scale of validity and reliability test of DLQI using factor analysis and Cronbach's alpha. The study outcome was a subjective evaluation and DLQI in patients who received pulsed dye laser (PDL) treatment. Results: Of the 54 patients, 35.2% (19) are male, and 64.8% (35) are female. Regarding age groups, 64.8% (35) are below 5 years old, and 35.2% (19) are older than 5 years. SE results showed that males evaluated an improvement of the facial PWS lesion significantly better than females (P < 0.05). The older age group graded the percentage of improvement better than the younger age group (P < 0.01). The result of the DLQI showed no difference in DLQI between gender. Older age result resulted in a significantly different DLQI compared with younger age (P < 0.01). Parent-reported DLQI improvement was less than self-reported DLQI improvement in patients with PWS treated with PDL (P < 0.05). Concerning the instrument of the study, the validity and reliability analysis of the DLQI questionnaire using factor analysis and Cronbach's alpha have been performed. The adjusted scale with the 5-item DLQI questionnaire is more appropriate in terms validity and reliability. Conclusion: This study demonstrates that facial PWS reduces the QoL as measured by DLQI. We discovered that the QoL of patients and parents with PWS was significantly impaired. The main influencing factors were older age, the improved perception between gender, and PDL treatments. Keloid and hypertrophic scar are hyperproliferation of dense connective tissue characterized by the growth of fibrotic tissue. The pathogenesis of keloid and hypertrophic scar is still expanding, hence there is no optimal therapy. Laser is one of the modalities of keloid and hypertrophic scar therapy. Laser's modality which can be used for keloid and hypertrophic scar are pulsed dye laser (PDL), carbon dioxide (CO2) lasers, neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd: YAG) lasers, fractional laser as well as laser assisted drug delivery (LADD) techniques. The target of laser is the selective photothermolysis with chromophores of hemoglobin and water. The mechanism of laser causing coagulation necrosis is by generating heat, resulting in neocolagenesis, while LADD is a technique of laser to assist application of drugs, such as triamcinolone acetonide. Benefit of laser is less painful thus can be an option for extensive scar.
