Quasiparticles are central to condensed matter physics, but their stability can be undermined by quantum many-body interactions. Magnons, quasiparticles in quantum magnets, are particularly intriguing because their properties are governed by both real and spin space. While crystal symmetries may be low, spin interactions often remain approximately isotropic, limiting spontaneous magnon decay. Textbook wisdom holds that collinear Heisenberg magnets follow a dichotomy: ferromagnets host stable magnons, while antiferromagnetic magnons may decay depending on dispersion curvature. Up to now, relativistic spin-orbit coupling and noncollinear order that connect spin space to real space, were shown to introduce more complex magnon instability mechanisms. Here, we show that even in nonrelativistic isotropic collinear systems, this conventional dichotomy is disrupted in altermagnets. Altermagnets, a newly identified class of collinear magnets, exhibit compensated spin order with nonrelativistic time-reversal symmetry breaking and even-parity band splitting. Using kinematic analysis, nonlinear spin-wave theory, and quantum simulations, we reveal that even weak band splitting opens a decay phase space, driving quasiparticle breakdown. Additionally, d-wave altermagnets form a rare ``island of stability'' at the Brillouin zone center. This paper addresses the challenge of occluded robot grasping, i.e. grasping in situations where the desired grasp poses are kinematically infeasible due to environmental constraints such as surface collisions. Traditional robot manipulation approaches struggle with the complexity of non-prehensile or bimanual strategies commonly used by humans in these circumstances. State-of-the-art reinforcement learning (RL) methods are unsuitable due to the inherent complexity of the task. In contrast, learning from demonstration requires collecting a significant number of expert demonstrations, which is often infeasible. Instead, inspired by human bimanual manipulation strategies, where two hands coordinate to stabilise and reorient objects, we focus on a bimanual robotic setup to tackle this challenge. In particular, we introduce Constraint-based Manipulation for Bimanual Occluded Grasping (COMBO-Grasp), a learning-based approach which leverages two coordinated policies: a constraint policy trained using self-supervised datasets to generate stabilising poses and a grasping policy trained using RL that reorients and grasps the target object. A key contribution lies in value function-guided policy coordination. Specifically, during RL training for the grasping policy, the constraint policy's output is refined through gradients from a jointly trained value function, improving bimanual coordination and task performance. Lastly, COMBO-Grasp employs teacher-student policy distillation to effectively deploy point cloud-based policies in real-world environments. We measured the covariance matrix of the fields generated in an integrated third-order optical parametric oscillator operating above threshold. We observed up to $(2.3 \pm 0.3)$ dB of squeezing in amplitude difference, inferred $(4.9 \pm 0.7)$ dB of on-chip squeezing, while an excess of noise for the sum of conjugated quadratures hinders the entanglement. The Phase-Field Method (PFM) is employed to simulate two-phase flows, with the fully-coupled Cahn- Hilliard-Navier-Stokes (CHNS) equations governing the temporal evolution of the flow. The methodology is fundamentally based on the minimization of the total energy functional, accounting for diffusive and viscous dissipations in the presence of fluid flow. A novel perspective is presented by analyzing the interplay between kinetic energy, mixing energy, and viscous dissipation using the temporal evolution of the total energy functional. The classical surface energy is approximated with mixing energy under specific conditions, and the accuracy of this substitution is rigorously evaluated. The energy-based surface tension formulation, derived from the Korteweg stress tensor, demonstrates exceptional accuracy in capturing variations in mixing energy. These concepts are demonstrated by considering two benchmark problems: droplet oscillation and capillary jet breakup. Key findings include the identification of scenarios where curvature non-uniformity increases errors in surface energy approximation and the discovery of distinct energy dissipation patterns during jet breakup and droplet oscillations. The results highlight the robustness of the free energy-based PFM in accurately capturing complex interfacial dynamics, while providing practical strategies to ensure numerical consistency.

Quantum two-level systems (TLSs) commonly found at low temperature in amorphous and disordered materials are responsible for decoherence in superconducting Josephson junction qubits particularly because they absorb energy of coherent qubit oscillations in the microwave frequency range. In planar Josephson resonators with oxide interfaces this absorption is characterized by an anomalously weak loss tangent dependence on the field in the non-linear regime that conflicts with the theoretical expectations and the observations in amorphous dielectrics. It was recently suggested that this anomalous absorption is due to TLS dynamic interactions. Here we show that such interactions cannot lead to the observed loss-tangent field dependence and suggest the alternative explanation assuming that TLS dipole moments $p$ are distributed according to the specific power law $P(p) \propto 1/p^{3-\eta}$ ($0\leq \eta <1$). This assumption, indeed, results in the observed loss tangent behavior. The hypothesis of a power law distribution is supported both by the recent measurements of individual TLS dipole moments and the theoretical model of TLS formation due to the long-range dipole-dipole interaction, thus connecting the anomalous absorption with the possible solution of the long-standing problem of the nature of TLSs., Comment: 31 pages, 5 figures, comments are welcome

Mapping land surface disturbances supports disaster response, resource and ecosystem management, and climate adaptation efforts. Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is an invaluable tool for disturbance mapping, providing consistent time-series images of the ground regardless of weather or illumination conditions. Despite SAR's potential for disturbance mapping, processing SAR data to an analysis-ready format requires expertise and significant compute resources, particularly for large-scale global analysis. In October 2023, NASA's Observational Products for End-Users from Remote Sensing Analysis (OPERA) project released the near-global Radiometric Terrain Corrected SAR backscatter from Sentinel-1 (RTC-S1) dataset, providing publicly available, analysis-ready SAR imagery. In this work, we utilize this new dataset to systematically analyze land surface disturbances. As labeling SAR data is often prohibitively time-consuming, we train a self-supervised vision transformer - which requires no labels to train - on OPERA RTC-S1 data to estimate a per-pixel distribution from the set of baseline imagery and assess disturbances when there is significant deviation from the modeled distribution. To test our model's capability and generality, we evaluate three different natural disasters - which represent high-intensity, abrupt disturbances - from three different regions of the world. Across events, our approach yields high quality delineations: F1 scores exceeding 0.6 and Areas Under the Precision-Recall Curve exceeding 0.65, consistently outperforming existing SAR disturbance methods. Our findings suggest that a self-supervised vision transformer is well-suited for global disturbance mapping and can be a valuable tool for operational, near-global disturbance monitoring, particularly when labeled data does not exist., Comment: 19 pages, 18 figures, 5 tables. Quantum error correction is essential for bridging the gap between the error rates of physical devices and the extremely low logical error rates required for quantum algorithms. Recent error-correction demonstrations on superconducting processors have focused primarily on the surface code, which offers a high error threshold but poses limitations for logical operations. In contrast, the color code enables much more efficient logic, although it requires more complex stabilizer measurements and decoding techniques. Measuring these stabilizers in planar architectures such as superconducting qubits is challenging, and so far, realizations of color codes have not addressed performance scaling with code size on any platform. Here, we present a comprehensive demonstration of the color code on a superconducting processor, achieving logical error suppression and performing logical operations. Scaling the code distance from three to five suppresses logical errors by a factor of $\Lambda_{3/5}$ = 1.56(4). Simulations indicate this performance is below the threshold of the color code, and furthermore that the color code may be more efficient than the surface code with modest device improvements. Using logical randomized benchmarking, we find that transversal Clifford gates add an error of only 0.0027(3), which is substantially less than the error of an idling error correction cycle. We inject magic states, a key resource for universal computation, achieving fidelities exceeding 99% with post-selection (retaining about 75% of the data). Finally, we successfully teleport logical states between distance-three color codes using lattice surgery, with teleported state fidelities between 86.5(1)% and 90.7(1)%. This work establishes the color code as a compelling research direction to realize fault-tolerant quantum computation on superconducting processors in the near future.

We prove that the Grassmann graphs $J_2(2D+3,D)$, $D\geq 3$, are characterized by their intersection numbers, which settles one of the few remaining cases.

The spin properties of charge carriers confined in CuCl semiconductor nanocrystals (NCs) of different sizes (radius from 1.8 nm up to 28 nm) crystallized in a glass matrix are studied experimentally and theoretically. By means of photoluminescence, spin-flip Raman scattering, time-resolved Faraday ellipticity, and time-resolved differential transmission performed at temperatures in the range of $1.6 - 120$ K at magnetic fields up to 8 T, comprehensive information on the Land\'e $g$-factors as well as the population and spin dynamics is received. The spin signals are contributed by confined electrons with a $g$-factor close to 2, which shows a weak increase with decreasing NC size, i.e. increasing electron confinement energy. We revisit the theory of exciton confinement as a whole in spherical NCs within the six-band valence band model in order to describe the size dependence of the $Z_3$ and $Z_{1,2}$ exciton energies in CuCl NCs. We demonstrate theoretically that the stronger increase of the $Z_{1,2}$ energy transitions with decreasing radius can be explained by the strong absorption from the excited exciton state caused by strong heavy hole-light hole mixing in the exciton. The parameters of the six-band Hamiltonian describing both the exciton and hole kinetic energies are estimated from the comparison of the calculated and experimental size dependences of the exciton transitions. We present a diffusion-based approach to quadrupedal locomotion that simultaneously addresses the limitations of learning and interpolating between multiple skills and of (modes) offline adapting to new locomotion behaviours after training. This is the first framework to apply classifier-free guided diffusion to quadruped locomotion and demonstrate its efficacy by extracting goal-conditioned behaviour from an originally unlabelled dataset. We show that these capabilities are compatible with a multi-skill policy and can be applied with little modification and minimal compute overhead, i.e., running entirely on the robots onboard CPU. We verify the validity of our approach with hardware experiments on the ANYmal quadruped platform.

TOI-2818 b is a hot Jupiter orbiting a slightly evolved G-type star on a 4.04-day orbit that shows transit timing variations (TTVs) suggestive of a decreasing orbital period. In the most recent year of TESS observations, transits were observed $\sim$8 minutes earlier than expected for a constant period. The implied orbital decay rate is $1.35 \pm 0.25$ s yr$^{-1}$, too fast to be explained by tidal dissipation even considering the evolved nature of the host star. Radial velocity monitoring rules out the possibility that the apparent change in period is due to a steady acceleration of the star by a long-period companion. Apsidal precession due to the tidal distortion of the planet is also physically implausible. The most plausible explanation for the TTVs appears to be gravitational perturbations from a hitherto undetected planet with mass $\lesssim$$10\,M_\oplus$ that is in (or near) a mean-motion resonance with the hot Jupiter. The coherent configuration $\mathsf{WL}(X)$ of a graph $X$ is the smallest coherent configuration on the vertices of $X$ that contains the edge set of $X$ as a relation. The aim of the paper is to study $\mathsf{WL}(X)$ when $X$ is a Cartesian product of graphs. The example of a Hamming graph shows that, in general, $\mathsf{WL}(X)$ does not coincide with the tensor product of the coherent configurations of the factors. We prove that if $X$ is ``closed'' with respect to the $6$-dimensional Weisfeiler-Leman algorithm, then $\mathsf{WL}(X)$ is the tensor product of the coherent configurations of certain graphs related to the prime decomposition of $X$. This condition is trivially satisfied for almost all graphs. In addition, we prove that the property of a graph ``to be decomposable into a Cartesian product of $k$ connected prime graphs'' for some $k\ge 1$ is recognized by the $m$-dimensional Weisfeiler-Leman algorithm for all $m\ge 6$.

In this paper, we have developed a theory describing surface exciton polariton (SEPs) that accounts for the spatial dispersion of the dielectric constant connected with exciton momentum. Due to strong coupling between light and bulk excitons in the frequency separation, $\hbar\omega_{LT}$, between the longitudinal and transverse exciton, the SEP is formed and behaves at partially light and partially matter. The dispersion of the SEP was found through a combined solution of Maxwell's and Thomas-Hopfield's equations. The analytical theory describes SEPs at any bulk exciton/vacuum interface and provides its complete dispersion if one knows $\hbar\omega_{LT}$, the exciton effective mass, $M$, and the high frequency dielectric constant, $\kappa_\infty$. The presented theory is in excellent agreement with the only numerical modeling of this problem, which was conducted for SEPs at a ZnO/vacuum interface. Calculations show the spatial dispersion of the dielectric constant leads to rather small broadening of the photon-like quasi-particle and suggests using SEPs for long-range coherence transfer.

One of the most challenging problems in the computational study of localization in quantum manybody systems is to capture the effects of rare events, which requires sampling over exponentially many disorder realizations. We implement an efficient procedure on a quantum processor, leveraging quantum parallelism, to efficiently sample over all disorder realizations. We observe localization without disorder in quantum many-body dynamics in one and two dimensions: perturbations do not diffuse even though both the generator of evolution and the initial states are fully translationally invariant. The disorder strength as well as its density can be readily tuned using the initial state. Furthermore, we demonstrate the versatility of our platform by measuring Renyi entropies. Our method could also be extended to higher moments of the physical observables and disorder learning.

Antiferromagnetic materials have great potential for spintronic applications at terahertz (THz) frequencies. However, in contrast to ferromagnets, experimental studies of antiferromagnets are often challenging due to a lack of straightforward external control of the N\'eel vector $\mathbf{L}$. Here, we study an AFM|FM stack consisting of an antiferromagnetic metal layer (AFM) of the novel material Mn2Au and a ferromagnetic metal layer (FM) of NiFe. In this exchange-spring system, $\mathbf{L}$ of AFM Mn2Au can be controlled by the application of an external magnetic field B_ext. To characterize the AFM|FM stack as a function of the quasi-static $\mathbf{B}_{\mathrm{ext}}$, we perform THz-pump magneto-optic probe experiments. We identify signal components that can consistently be explained by the in-plane antiferromagnetic magnon mode excited by field-like N\'eel spin-orbit torques (NSOTs). Remarkably, we find that the $\mathbf{B}_{\mathrm{ext}}$- and THz-pump-induced changes in the optical response of the sample are dominated exclusively by the spin degrees of freedom of AFM. We fully calibrate the magnetic circular and magnetic linear optical birefringence of AFM and extract the efficiency of the NSOTs. Finally, by selective excitation of domains with different orientation of $\mathbf{L}$, we are able to determine the relative volume fraction of 0{\deg}, 90{\deg}, 180{\deg} and 270{\deg} domains distribution during the quasi-static reversal of $\mathbf{L}$ by $\mathbf{B}_{\mathrm{ext}}$. Our insights are an important prerequisite for future studies of ultrafast coherent switching of spins by THz NSOTs and show that THz-pump magneto-optic-probe experiments are a powerful tool to characterize magnetic properties of antiferromagnets.

The nonlinear interaction of a microresonator pumped by a laser has revealed complex dynamics including soliton formation and chaos. Initial studies of coupled-resonator systems reveal even more complicated dynamics that can lead to deterministic modelocking and efficient comb generation. Here we perform theoretical analysis and experiments that provide insight into the dynamical behavior of coupled-resonator systems operating in the normal group-velocity-dispersion regime. Our stability analysis and simulations reveal that the strong mode-coupling regime, which gives rise to spectrally-broad comb states, can lead to an instability mechanism in the auxiliary resonator that destabilizes the comb state and prevents mode-locking. We find that this instability can be suppressed by introducing loss in the auxiliary resonator. We investigate the stability of both single- and multi-pulse solutions and verify our theoretical predictions by performing experiments in a silicon-nitride platform. Our results provide an understanding for accessing broad, efficient, relatively flat high-power mode-locked combs for numerous applications in spectroscopy, time-frequency metrology, and data communications.

Lattice gauge theories (LGTs) can be employed to understand a wide range of phenomena, from elementary particle scattering in high-energy physics to effective descriptions of many-body interactions in materials. Studying dynamical properties of emergent phases can be challenging as it requires solving many-body problems that are generally beyond perturbative limits. We investigate the dynamics of local excitations in a $\mathbb{Z}_2$ LGT using a two-dimensional lattice of superconducting qubits. We first construct a simple variational circuit which prepares low-energy states that have a large overlap with the ground state; then we create particles with local gates and simulate their quantum dynamics via a discretized time evolution. As the effective magnetic field is increased, our measurements show signatures of transitioning from deconfined to confined dynamics. For confined excitations, the magnetic field induces a tension in the string connecting them. Our method allows us to experimentally image string dynamics in a (2+1)D LGT from which we uncover two distinct regimes inside the confining phase: for weak confinement the string fluctuates strongly in the transverse direction, while for strong confinement transverse fluctuations are effectively frozen. In addition, we demonstrate a resonance condition at which dynamical string breaking is facilitated. Our LGT implementation on a quantum processor presents a novel set of techniques for investigating emergent particle and string dynamics.

Silicon nitride (SiN) formed via low pressure chemical vapor deposition (LPCVD) is an ideal material platform for on-chip nonlinear photonics owing to its low propagation loss and competitive nonlinear index. Despite this, LPCVD SiN is restricted in its scalability due to the film stress when high thicknesses, required for nonlinear dispersion engineering, are deposited. This stress in turn leads to film cracking and makes integrating such films in silicon foundries challenging. To overcome this limitation, we propose a bilayer waveguide scheme comprised of a thin LPCVD SiN layer underneath a low-stress and low-index PECVD SiN layer. We show group velocity dispersion tuning at 1550nm without concern for filmcracking while enabling low loss resonators with intrinsic quality factors above 1 million. Finally, we demonstrate a locked, normal dispersion Kerr frequency comb with our bilayer waveguide resonators spanning 120nm in the c-band with an on-chip pump power of 350mW.

Generative models trained at scale can now produce text, video, and more recently, scientific data such as crystal structures. In applications of generative approaches to materials science, and in particular to crystal structures, the guidance from the domain expert in the form of high-level instructions can be essential for an automated system to output candidate crystals that are viable for downstream research. In this work, we formulate end-to-end language-to-structure generation as a multi-objective optimization problem, and propose Generative Hierarchical Materials Search (GenMS) for controllable generation of crystal structures. GenMS consists of (1) a language model that takes high-level natural language as input and generates intermediate textual information about a crystal (e.g., chemical formulae), and (2) a diffusion model that takes intermediate information as input and generates low-level continuous value crystal structures. GenMS additionally uses a graph neural network to predict properties (e.g., formation energy) from the generated crystal structures. During inference, GenMS leverages all three components to conduct a forward tree search over the space of possible structures. Experiments show that GenMS outperforms other alternatives of directly using language models to generate structures both in satisfying user request and in generating low-energy structures. We confirm that GenMS is able to generate common crystal structures such as double perovskites, or spinels, solely from natural language input, and hence can form the foundation for more complex structure generation in near future., Comment: https://generative-materials.github.io/

Quantum error correction provides a path to reach practical quantum computing by combining multiple physical qubits into a logical qubit, where the logical error rate is suppressed exponentially as more qubits are added. However, this exponential suppression only occurs if the physical error rate is below a critical threshold. In this work, we present two surface code memories operating below this threshold: a distance-7 code and a distance-5 code integrated with a real-time decoder. The logical error rate of our larger quantum memory is suppressed by a factor of $\Lambda$ = 2.14 $\pm$ 0.02 when increasing the code distance by two, culminating in a 101-qubit distance-7 code with 0.143% $\pm$ 0.003% error per cycle of error correction. This logical memory is also beyond break-even, exceeding its best physical qubit's lifetime by a factor of 2.4 $\pm$ 0.3. We maintain below-threshold performance when decoding in real time, achieving an average decoder latency of 63 $\mu$s at distance-5 up to a million cycles, with a cycle time of 1.1 $\mu$s. To probe the limits of our error-correction performance, we run repetition codes up to distance-29 and find that logical performance is limited by rare correlated error events occurring approximately once every hour, or 3 $\times$ 10$^9$ cycles. Optomagnonics provides a promising method of a Joule-loss-free spin control that can be performed at ultrafast timescale. However, the cornerstone of optomagnonics is impossibility to focus the light tighter than a diffraction limit. This constrains minimal size of the optically switched magnetic bits and minimal wavelengths of the optically excited spin waves in optomagnonic devices thus preventing its further progress. Here we propose and experimentally demonstrate a novel method of the selective optical excitation of the short exchange spin waves by using a specially designed magnetophotonic grating. This method is based on the creation of the sign-changing profile of the inverse Faraday effect (IFE) induced in a magnetic film due to excitation of the optical guided TE-mode by a femtosecond laser pulse. The spatial period of the IFE profile is subdiffractive which allows to launch narrow band short spin waves whose wavelengths are around 300 nm as was experimentally demonstrated and potentially can be made down to ~ 100 nm. This opens new horizons for optomagnetic applications that are wide ranging, from logical elements to data processing devices.

In this study, we investigate the dynamics of particles overcoming the hydrodynamic barrier posed by a thin fluid film to achieve contact in finite time, a phenomenon critical in various natural and engineered processes such as enzyme docking, catalysis, and vesicular transport. Using the framework of lubrication theory, which posits that drag force scales inversely with the film thickness, we explore how particles can achieve finite-time contact despite theoretical predictions of infinite time under constant force. We conduct experiments where a spherical particle settles under gravity and magnetic attraction, the latter introducing a spatially varying force. Our findings reveal that a spatially varying force significantly alters the settling trajectory, enabling finite-time contact. The results are supported by a simple model that links hydrodynamic drag and the impact of spatially varying forces. Finally, we illustrate that forces can be inferred from kinematic observations. In the future, this may provide insights into biological and microscale systems where direct force measurements are challenging. Our study demonstrates that varying forces can be harnessed to overcome lubrication barriers, offering potential applications in designing self-assembly systems and improving surface interaction processes.

We derive a linear programming bound on the maximum cardinality of error-correcting codes in the sum-rank metric. Based on computational experiments on relatively small instances, we observe that the obtained bounds outperform all previously known bounds.

Intramolecular energy transport is generally responsible for chemical energy balance in molecular systems. The transport is fast and efficient if energy is transferred by optical phonons in periodic oligomers, but its efficiently is limited by decoherence emerging due to anharmonic interactions with acoustic phonons. We show that in the most common case of the optical phonon band being narrower than the acoustic bands decoherence takes place in two stages. The faster stage involves optical phonon multiple forward scattering due to absorption and emission of transverse acoustic phonons, i. e. collective bending modes with a quadratic spectrum; the transport remains ballistic and the speed can be altered. The subsequent slower stage involves phonon backscattering in multiphonon processes involving two or more acostic phonons resulting is a switch to diffusive transport. If the initially excited optical phonon possesses a relatively small group velocity, then its equilibration in the first stage is accompanied by its acceleration due to its transitions to states propagating faster. This theoretical expectation is consistent with the recent measurements of optical phonon transport in alkane chains, accelerating with increasing the chain length., Comment: 21 page, 10 figures

The current state-of-the-art in quadruped locomotion is able to produce a variety of complex motions. These methods either rely on switching between a discrete set of skills or learn a distribution across gaits using complex black-box models. Alternatively, we present Gaitor, which learns a disentangled and 2D representation across locomotion gaits. This learnt representation forms a planning space for closed-loop control delivering continuous gait transitions and perceptive terrain traversal. Gaitor's latent space is readily interpretable and we discover that during gait transitions, novel unseen gaits emerge. The latent space is disentangled with respect to footswing heights and lengths. This means that these gait characteristics can be varied independently in the 2D latent representation. Together with a simple terrain encoding and a learnt planner operating in the latent space, Gaitor can take motion commands including desired gait type and swing characteristics all while reacting to uneven terrain. We evaluate Gaitor in both simulation and the real world on the ANYmal C platform. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work learning a unified and interpretable latent space for multiple gaits, resulting in continuous blending between different locomotion modes on a real quadruped robot. Understanding how interacting particles approach thermal equilibrium is a major challenge of quantum simulators. Unlocking the full potential of such systems toward this goal requires flexible initial state preparation, precise time evolution, and extensive probes for final state characterization. We present a quantum simulator comprising 69 superconducting qubits which supports both universal quantum gates and high-fidelity analog evolution, with performance beyond the reach of classical simulation in cross-entropy benchmarking experiments. Emulating a two-dimensional (2D) XY quantum magnet, we leverage a wide range of measurement techniques to study quantum states after ramps from an antiferromagnetic initial state. We observe signatures of the classical Kosterlitz-Thouless phase transition, as well as strong deviations from Kibble-Zurek scaling predictions attributed to the interplay between quantum and classical coarsening of the correlated domains. This interpretation is corroborated by injecting variable energy density into the initial state, which enables studying the effects of the eigenstate thermalization hypothesis (ETH) in targeted parts of the eigenspectrum. Finally, we digitally prepare the system in pairwise-entangled dimer states and image the transport of energy and vorticity during thermalization. These results establish the efficacy of superconducting analog-digital quantum processors for preparing states across many-body spectra and unveiling their thermalization dynamics.

In an effort to increase the speed and efficiency of ballistic energy transport via oligomeric chains, we performed measurements of the transport in compounds featuring long alkyl chains of up to 37 methylene units. Compounds of the N3-(CH2)n-COOMe type (denoted as aznME) were synthesized with n = 5, 10, 15, 19, 28, 37 and studied using relaxation-assisted two-dimensional infrared spectroscopy. The speed of the ballistic transport, initiated by the N3 tag excitation, increased ca. 3-fold for the longer chains (n = 19-37) compared to the shorter chains, from 14.7 {\AA}/ps to 48 {\AA}/ps, in line with an earlier prediction (Nawagamuwage et al. 2021, J. Phys. Chem. B, 125, 7546). Modeling, based on solving numerically the Liouville equation, was capable of reproducing the experimental data only if three wavepackets are included, involving CH2 twisting (Tw), wagging (W), and rocking (Ro) chain bands. The Oceanus Procellarum region, characterized by its vast basaltic plains and pronounced volcanic activity, serves as a focal point for understanding the volcanic history of the Moon. Leveraging the Gravity Recovery and Interior Laboratory (GRAIL) mission data, we imaged the magmatic structures beneath the Oceanus Procellarum region. Our 3D density models uncover pronounced linear magmatic structures along the Procellarum's western border and significant intrusions within the northern and southern Marius Hills. Crucially, they reveal three narrow near-horizontal sheeted magmatic structures, 80-150 km long, extending from near-surface to 6- 7 km depth, which we identified as sill-like magmatic conduits. These magmatic conduits connect the Marius Hills' northern and southern intrusions and bridge them with the Procellarum's western border structures. These discoveries suggest that sill-like magmatic conduits likely serve as central pathways facilitating magma transport across various volcanic systems and furthermore indicate widespread magmatic connectivity beneath the Oceanus Procellarum., Comment: 30 pages, 6 figures, and 1 table

Optical networks are the leading platform for the transfer of information due to their low loss and ability to scale to many information channels using optical frequency modes. To fully leverage the quantum properties of light in this platform, it is desired to manipulate higher-dimensional superpositions by orchestrating linear, beamsplitter-type interactions between several channels simultaneously. We propose a method of achieving simultaneous, all-to-all coupling between N optical frequency modes via N-way Bragg-scattering four-wave mixing. By exploiting the frequency degree of freedom, additional modes can be multiplexed in an interaction medium of fixed volume and loss, avoiding the introduction of excess noise. We generalize the theory of the frequency-encoded two-mode interaction to N modes under this four-wave mixing approach and experimentally verify the quantum nature of this scheme by demonstrating three-way multiphoton interference. The two input photons are shared among three frequency modes and display interference differing from that of two classical (coherent-state) inputs. These results show the potential of our approach for the scalability of photonic quantum information processing to general N-mode systems in the frequency domain.

This paper experimentally evaluates four mechanisms intended to achieve the Uniform outcome in rationing problems (Sprumont, 1991). Our benchmark is the dominant-strategy, direct-revelation mechanism of the Uniform rule. A strategically equivalent mechanism that provides non-binding feedback during the reporting period greatly improves performance. A sequential revelation mechanism produces modest improvements despite not possessing dominant strategies. A novel, obviously strategy-proof mechanism, devised by Arribillaga et al. (2023), does not improve performance. We characterize each alternative to the direct mechanism, finding general lessons about the advantages of real-time feedback and sequentiality of play as well as the potential shortcomings of an obviously strategy-proof mechanism.
