The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the propensity to use public transport, with many countries seeing a decline in patronage to as low as 20% of the pre-pandemic levels. Although public transport use is recovering with 60% of pre-COVID-19 levels being a common statistic, there is a view that it could take many years to fully recover, if at all. This paper presents evidence on societal perceptions and attitudes about the use and return to public transport that was obtained from surveys undertaken during COVID-19 at a period in early 2021 in which there were no lockdowns, and during a subsequent period of varying durations of lockdowns in the Greater Sydney Metropolitan Area and South East Queensland. Together with views on future plans, this paper offers policy useful evidence on the challenges that the public transport sector currently faces, and is likely to continue to face, in developing a plan to support a return to using the more sustainable mode of public transport, rather than increased use of the private car. The focus of the paper is on an analysis of attitudinal and open-ended qualitative responses using a mixture of descriptive interpretation and analytical methods of factor and cluster analysis to identify the spectrum of attitudes and concerns about using public transport as a way of guiding future messaging. March 2020 will forever be etched in our minds as the beginning of the most concerning health pandemic faced by all generations of the living population. Two-and-three quarter years on, we are starting to see signs for what the future might evolve into through structural change brought about by many events, and no more so than the burgeoning growth in working from home (WFH). WFH is no longer associated with negative stigma, and along with remote working more generally, has become recognised across most sectors of society as a way of work that has benefits for many and is to some extent here to stay. We draw on the research undertaken since March 2020 to summarise the evidence that we use to speculate on what are likely to be the big changes in the land transport sector that would not have been considered, at least to the same extent, pre-COVID-19. While many countries have experienced more than one wave of the pandemic throughout 2020, Australia has been able to contain the virus in a way that makes it a stand out (with New Zealand) in the way that it has been contained, with an exception in Victoria linked to failed quarantine procedures for travellers returning from overseas. Through descriptive analysis, this paper builds on earlier papers by the authors on the Australian response, with a focus on the changing dynamics of travel activity, concern with public transport, and attitudes surrounding activity given the perception of risk of COVID-19 and the level of public support for regulatory intervention and restrictions on movement. We find that Australia continues to suppress travel, particularly that for commuting, that comfort in completing day-to-day activities continues to rise (with the exception of Victoria where confidence feel significantly), and while support for intervention measures remains high, there has been an erosion in sentiment. This paper (Part 2 in the paper series), building on earlier studies examining the Australian response, extends on findings related to travel activity, commuting, and attitudes towards COVID-19 measures (Part 1 in the paper series). In this paper we focus in detail on the impact of, and experiences with, working from home (WFH), perhaps the largest of the positive unintended consequence of the pandemic, with respect to transport, and a key lens through which the changing patterns in travel activity and attitudes discussed in Part 1 need to be understood. We conclude that through the widespread adoption of WFH as a result of nationwide public health orders, there is evidence emerging that WFH is now seen as an appealing instrument of change by employees and employers, there is growing support to continue to support WFH into the future. This represents a significant potential contribution to the future management of the transport network, especially in larger metropolitan areas. The year 2020 has been marked by the most extraordinary event we have witnessed since World War II. While other health threats and geographical disasters have occurred, none have been on the global scale of COVID-19. Although many countries have experienced more than one wave of the pandemic throughout 2020, Australia has been largely able to contain the impact of the virus. While there are many reasons for this, a key component of reducing transmission has been restrictions on movement, and the widespread adoption of working from home (WFH) by those who can. In describing the experience Australian's have had with working from home across 2020, via three waves of data collection, we find that WFH become a positive unintended consequence in contributing to the future management of the transport network, especially in larger metropolitan areas. Evidence suggests that support for WFH will be continuing in the form of a hybrid work model with more flexible working times and locations, linked to largely positive experiences of WFH during 2020, an improved wellbeing of employees, and no loss of productivity to the economy. We highlight potential future benefits of WFH to society, including significant implications for congestion and crowding, concluding that WFH is a formidable transport policy lever that must become embedded in the psyche of transport planners and decision makers so that we can gain some benefit from the pandemic. In the first 22 months of the COVID-19 pandemic, from March 2020 to December 2021, we witnessed a seismic change in the way in which work was undertaken given the restrictions implemented by government to curb the spread of the virus; most prominent has been the rise in working from home (WFH) as a more acceptable work location. In this paper, we explore preferences for and attitudes towards WFH in great detail, leveraging two waves of data to explore the remarkable and globally unique situation of three metro areas (Greater Sydney Metropolitan Area, South-East Queensland, and Melbourne) who despite entering lockdown at the same time in 2021, follow significantly different trajectories with respect to the severity and duration of the lockdowns. We find that irrespective of the degree of severity of the lockdown and the duration thereof, employee preferences for working from home, and importantly productivity, remained unchanged. Rather than diminishing the desire to WFH, evidence indicates that as periods of lockdown extend the desire to continue WFH only seems to intensify. While all workers express a preference to continue WFH in an unrestricted world, more often than they did prior to the pandemic, we further identify three broad segments of workers based primarily on how much of a balance they can strike between the benefits and challenges of WFH, which dictates how often they would like to WFH. The need to recognise and account for the influence of working from home on commuting activity has never been so real as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Given a recognition that WFH activity during the pandemic has reduced the amount of commuting activity compared to pre-COVID-19, the inevitable question is raised as to what this might mean for some of the crucial inputs in the appraisal of transport initiatives. One critical value used in benefit-cost analysis is the value of time which converts time into monetary units in the calculation of user benefits. We are interested in whether reduced commuting activity is associated with higher or lower willing to pay to save time. We investigate this possibility with data from the Greater Sydney Metropolitan Area in late 2020 when working from home was at a high level. The findings of a higher average commuter VoT have major implications for the VoT used in transport appraisal given that time savings are the largest user benefit. • We adopt the theoretical road pricing framework to examine user charging potential in air drone use. • Responses from 825 active drone flyers were analysed using a random parameters logit model. • WTP of $0.11 for flying a drone in a safe and orderly manner for one hour was found. • Modelling also shows much higher WTPs for various currently prohibited activities (e.g. fly at night) • A LAAM system with variable user charges is preferred and fairer than flat registration fees/taxes. Applications and demand for airborne drone operations, including urban air mobility, are growing rapidly in regional and metropolitan areas. However, the expected traffic volumes in cities will make it impossible to operate drones in uncontrolled airspace. Despite the wealth of literature on pricing transport infrastructure usage showing that variable pricing is the optimal way for charging for road use, jurisdictions are reluctant to move towards this efficient mechanism evident in the slow uptake of road pricing implementation globally. What is worse, regulations have been drafted to tax the drone growth similarly to cars proposing the adoption of annual registration fees for drones. This paper proposes that drone use should instead adopt a pricing structure modelled on road user charging, and presents evidence suggesting that a case can be made for enabling controlled and fair growth through low altitude airspace management (LAAM) systems and variable drone user charges. A stated preference experiment with 825 respondents who actively fly drones has shown user charge potential in way of willingness to pay (WTP) of A$0.11 for flying a drone for one hour. Random parameters logit models further allowed us to establish much higher WTP for various currently not permitted activities such as A$7.09 to fly beyond line of flight or A$4.29 to fly outside daylight hours. As such, if those occasional uses are variably charged, we argue that a commercially viable LAAM system could be implemented, and low altitude air traffic user charging could overtake implementation of the wider (i.e. road) transport capacity pricing on the fast lane. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way we go about our daily lives in ways that are unlikely to return to the pre-COVID-19 levels. A key feature of the COVID-19 era is likely to be a rethink of the way we work and the implications this may have on commuting activity. Working from home (WFH) has been the 'new normal' during the period of lockdown, except for essential services that require commuting. In recognition of the new normal as represented by an increasing amount of WFH, this paper develops a model to identify the incidence of WFH and what impact this could have on the amount of weekly one-way commuting trips by car and public transport. Using Wave 1 of an ongoing data collection effort done at the height of the restrictions in March and April 2020 in Australia, we develop a number of days WFH ordered logit model and link it to a zero-inflated Poisson (ZIP) regression model for the number of weekly one-way commuting trips by car and public transport. Scenario analysis is undertaken to highlight the way in which WFH might change the amount of commuting activity when restrictions are relaxed to enable changing patterns of WFH and commuting. The findings will provide one reference point as we continue to undertake similar analysis at different points through time during the pandemic and after when restrictions are effectively removed. The COVID-19 disease continues to cause unparalleled disruption to life and the economy world over. This paper is the second in what will be an ongoing series of analyses of a longitudinal travel and activity survey. In this paper we examine data collected over a period of late May to early June in Australia, following four-to-six weeks of relatively flat new cases in COVID-19 after the initial nationwide outbreak, as many state jurisdictions have begun to slowly ease restrictions designed to limit the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. We find that during this period, travel activity has started to slowly return, in particular by private car, and in particular for the purposes of shopping and social or recreational activities. Respondents indicate comfort with the idea of meeting friends or returning to shops, so authorities need to be aware of potential erosion of social distancing and appropriate COVID-safe behaviour in this regard. There is still a concern about using public transport, though it has diminished noticeably since the first wave of data collection. We see that working from home continues to be an important strategy in reducing travel and pressure on constrained transport networks, and a policy measure that if carried over to a post-pandemic world, will be an important step towards a more sustainable transport future. We find that work from home has been a generally positive experience with a significant number of respondents liking to work from home moving forward, with varying degrees of employer support, at a level above those seen before COVID-19. The purpose of this study was to provide insight to the lived advocacy experiences of principals and school counselors who received state and/or national recognition for their work on behalf of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) students. I identified three themes and related subthemes regarding the meaning derived across the participants' advocacy experiences on behalf of LGBT students. The first theme was "It began with me" with subtheme (a) knowing your school. The second theme was advocacy identity with subthemes (a) being a role model, and (b) taking a stand. The third theme was credibility and confidence with subtheme (a) giving back. These findings provide school counselors and principals with stories and practical examples from exemplary and dedicated professionals regarding how to create safer school environments for LGBT students. When 2020 began, we had no idea what was to unfold globally as we learnt about the Novel-Coronavirus in Wuhan, in the Hubei province of China. As this virus spread rapidly, it became a matter of time before many countries began to implement measures to try and contain the spread of the disease. COVID-19 as it is referred to, resulted in two main approaches to fighting the viral pandemic, either through a progressive set of measures to slow down the number of identified cases designed to 'flatten the curve' over time (anticipated to be at least six months), or to attack it by the severest of measures including a total lock-down and/or herding exposure to fast track 'immunisation' while we await a vaccine. The paper reports the findings from the first phase of an ongoing survey designed to identify the changing patterns in travel activity of Australian residents as a result of the stage 2 restrictions imposed by the Australian government. The main restrictions, in addition to social distancing of at least 1.5 m, are closure of entry to Australia (except residents returning), and closure of non-essential venues such as night clubs, restaurants, mass attendee sporting events, churches, weddings, and all social gatherings in any circumstance. With some employers encouraging working from home and others requiring it, in addition to job losses, and many children attending school online from home, the implications on travel activity is extreme. While there is a well-developed body of academic literature on how to procure public ground transport services and how to integrate those services, there is virtually no literature on how to do this in the context of regional air services. This paper aims to contribute to the area of strategic management of integrated transport based on the concept of mobility as a service. We show that customer-centric public transport integration (e.g. joint ticketing) with aviation as the highest priority can create business opportunities and competitive advantage for the 'air-bus' transport value chain. In the regional aviation context in particular, the door-to-door travel experience is of high importance given the potential competition from private car travel, except for island air services. Based on demand analysis and travel choice literature, we reveal that integrated planning and management efforts such as joint timetabling and joint pricing are most likely to have an impact on competitive advantage, demand (passenger numbers plus yields, measured in the customers' willingness to pay) and hence the attractiveness and profitability of regional air services. We use stated choice experiments for flights from Sydney to regional New South Wales (NSW), Australia to establish the willingness to pay for integrated ground transport add-ons to scheduled regional air services. Effective school counseling programs require school counselors to serve as advocates for all students. However, there is limited research that explores the lived experiences of school counselors as advocates. This phenomenological study captured the perspectives of 14 ASCA School Counselor of the Year (SCOY) finalists. The data revealed five themes, including: understanding advocacy as an ongoing process, stand up and be the expert—professional advocacy, building a principal-counselor partnership, constructing equitable individual and systemic change, and investing and giving back. Research shows that teachers’ and educators’ responses to gender diversity issues in schools either improves or limits the experiences of students. The school counsellor has an important role to play in this process by working closely with other stakeholders to advocate for transgender, intersex and genderqueer (TIG) students. This article examines perceptions of how safe airline travel is and respondents’ level of concern over privacy and trust of authorities. These attitudes are then used to understand the choice to travel under passenger screening processes with differing levels of invasiveness. We find that travelers who are more trusting of authorities are more likely to choose to travel internationally, whereas those with low overall feelings of safety while onboard an aircraft are predisposed to not travel. Our analysis reveals what attitudes and potential screening measures are linked to this feeling of overall safety, chief among which is the presence of visible uniformed police. Our results are also novel as they study these attitudes in the context of a spate of recent air-related disasters; finding no desire to accept screening processes that invade privacy beyond what is currently practiced. The school counseling literature contains little research and practice-based scholarship to support school counselors' work with LGBT youth within school contexts, which may be at odds with the ethical and professional responsibilities of the school counselor. This article adopts an ecological framework to help school counselors navigate potential ethical issues when working with and advocating on behalf of LGBT students. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the way we work and live, with working from home becoming more than the occasional desire but a regular feature of work and life. While an increasing number of research studies have promoted the virtues of what is often described as the positive unintended consequences of the pandemic, there are also downsides, especially during periods of imposed restrictions on the ability to get out and about, that have broadly been described as impacting mental health and life's worth. In this paper we use data collected in New South Wales during September 2020 and June 2021, seven and 16 months after the pandemic began, to obtain an understanding of the extent to which the pandemic has impacted on how worthwhile things done in life are for workers. We investigate whether there is a systematic behavioural link with working from home, reduced commuting linked to distance to work, and various socio-economic characteristics. The evidence suggests that the opportunity to have reduced commuting activity linked to working from home and increased perceived work-related productivity have contributed in a positive way to improving the worth status of life, offsetting some of the negative consequences of the pandemic. The valuation of travel time is of crucial importance in many transport decisions. Most studies make use of data framed around short-term decisions such as route choice. However, people may have a greater ability to trade time and money in a longer term setting, such as when considering changes in residential or employment locations. We study the value of travel time in both the short and long-term, finding differences in the valuations. There is a dearth of existing literature pertaining to college, career, and lifestyle development, which can assist school counselors in their work with lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, and questioning (LGBQQ) students in these areas. Using the work adjustment theory and the Association for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, & Transgender Issues in Counseling's Competencies for Counseling Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Queer Questioning, Intersex, and Ally Individuals, school counselors can prepare LGBQQ students for the world of college and/or work by reflecting on workplace satisfaction, advocating for inclusive workplace practices, and exploring values within and obstacles to career and lifestyle success. This paper reports on an analysis aiming to understand differences across individual people in their willingness to accept increased commuting time in return for higher salary, using Hierarchical Bayes (HB) analysis of a dataset collected in Sweden. We find that socio-demographic and attitudinal differences are significant in explaining the variations in values of time for individuals, in particular income, who drives when carpooling and hours worked per week. Additionally we also examine the values of individuals when their choices also impact on the salary and commute of their partner, finding that incomes, income differentials, driving behaviour when carpooling, division of housework and car user decisions significantly explain the values assigned to others and variations in an individual’s own values once their partner is affected. The overall richness of the results reflect the benefits that posterior analysis can bring, and highlight the computational efficiency of Bayesian methods in producing such conditionals at an individual level. The purpose of this investigation is to study the relationship between types of bullying and victimization and problematic behaviors, which include both internalizing and externalizing behaviors. Social and relational data was examined on 22 fourth-grade elementary school students. Results of bivariate (Pearson) correlations indicate that internalizing problems demonstrated a positive relationship with verbal and relational bullying and externalizing problems demonstrated a positive relationship with physical, verbal, and relational victimization. Stated choice experiments are a preeminent method for researchers and practitioners who seek to examine the behavior of consumers. However, the extent to which these experiments can replicate real markets continues to be debated in the literature, with particular reference to the potential for biased estimates as a result of the hypothetical nature of such experiments. In this paper, a first in the transportation literature, we compare stated choice responses to revealed preference behavior and examine three methods proposed in the literature for calibrating choice experiments via reported choice certainty. In doing so we provide evidence that the incorrect calibration of responses can produce stated choice results that are more biased than doing nothing at all, however we show that by jointly estimating choice and choice certainty there is a significant reduction in hypothetical bias such that stated choice responses more directly replicate real behavior. Attitudes play an important role in determining individual transit behaviour and the measurement of attitudes is relied on by public transit authorities’ world over. Given their role in behaviour and policy making, the accurate measurement of attitudes is of critical importance. Traditional satisfaction scales are prone to bias and on their own they are only a partial measure of attitudes. Given that satisfaction scales have been used to assist with large scale transport infrastructure investment decisions, to aid policy makers examining reactions to alternative policy changes and reform, and to measure the success of new initiatives, deriving robust satisfaction scales should be of critical importance. This paper introduces a dual version of best–worst scaling as an alternative measure of satisfaction. Best–worst scaling is free of the biases inherent in traditional response scales and is ideal for handling the comparative evaluation of large amount of attributes, particularly those which are inherently qualitative. The paper makes a further innovative contribution by proposing a model structure for the joint estimation of satisfaction and importance. Our model shows a better delineation between the attributes used to measure attitudes towards bus use and a more detailed understanding of the relationship between importance and satisfaction; enabling transport operators to better understand what counts most and assess their performance. This article outlines the role of counselor educators to assist school counselors-in-training in developing effective working relationships with school principals regarding lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) topics in K-12 settings. The author provides a rationale for implementing the school counselor–principal alliance in the preparation program, where future school counselors and principal trainees can work across programs and collaboratively address ways to strengthen each other's future roles as effective decision makers that promote success for LGBT students. Metal-oxide nanoparticles (MONPs) are of broad interest as catalysts and catalyst supports in automotive, industrial, and biomedical applications. In water-containing environments, MONPs adsorb hydroxyl groups at nanoparticle corners, edges, and faces. While adsorbed surface groups will influence MONP properties, including oxidation state and the availability and accessibility of catalytically active sites, determination of the density, distribution, and effects of such groups is experimentally challenging. Here, focusing on CeO2 nanoparticles (CNPs) as a representative MONP system, we report computational and experimental results showing that, for small, hydroxylated CNPs, the presence or absence of strongly infrared (IR) absorbing O-H stretching modes associated with O-H- OH complexes present on fully oxidized CNPs can be used to probe the configuration of surface-adsorbed hydroxyl groups and the CNP net oxidation state. As the vibrational modes of O-H-OH complexes are distinct from those of molecular water (3240 vs 3404 cm-1), these results demonstrate that IR absorption spectroscopy can be used to determine the oxidation state of small, hydroxylated CNPs, as well as other MONPs, more generally, in water-containing environments. In the stated choice literature, increasing attention has been paid to methods that seek to close the gap between the choices from these experiments and the choices experienced in the real world. Attempts to produce model estimates that are truer to real market behaviours are especially important for transportation, where many important policy decisions rely on such experiments. A recent approach that has emerged makes use of a certainty index whereby respondents report how certain they are about each choice they make. Additional literature also posits that when making decisions, people first identify an acceptable set of alternatives (alternative acceptability) such that a consideration set if formed and it is from this reduced set that the ultimate choice is made. This paper presents two models that jointly estimates choice and choice certainty and choice and alternative acceptability. This joint estimation allows the modeller to overcome potential endogeneity that may exist between these responses. In comparing choices of differing certainty, surprisingly little difference in marginal sensitivities are found. This is not the case in the alternative acceptability models however. An important finding of this research is that what could be interpreted as preference heterogeneity may in fact be more closely linked to scale. To better serve the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and questioning (LGBTQIQ) youth population, counselor educators can assist school counselors-in-training in developing advocacy competencies within their training programs. A focus on advocacy competencies outlined by the American Counseling Association (ACA) and the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) standards, and infusion of techniques throughout the education process, may increase levels of comfort for neophyte school counselors-in-training when working with LGBTQIQ youth. To increase efficacy in this multicultural population, myriad environments representative of the systemic nature of the school environment and culture must be examined and explored through training processes. An increasing number of studies of choice behaviour are looking at Random Regret Minimisation (RRM) as an alternative to the well established Random Utility Maximisation (RUM) framework. Empirical evidence tends to show small differences in performance between the two approaches, with the implied preference between the models being dataset specific. In the present paper, we discuss how in the context of choice tasks involving an opt out alternative, the differences are potentially more clear cut. Specifically, we hypothesise that when opt out alternatives are framed as a rejection of all the available alternatives, this is likely to have a detrimental impact on the performance of RRM, while the performance of RUM suffers more than RRM when the opt out is framed as a respondent being indifferent between the alternatives on offer. We provide empirical support for these hypotheses through two case studies, using the two different types of opt out alternatives. Our findings suggest that analysts need to carefully evaluate their choice of model structure in the presence of opt out alternatives, while any a priori preference for a given model structure should be taken into account in survey framing. The stability and growth of three-dimensional (3D) nanostructures in the Ge on Si system is controlled in part by the strain- and overlayer-thickness-dependent surface energies of the crystal facets involved. Here, we use density functional theory (DFT) with local-density approximation calculations to calculate the strain- and thickness-dependent energy of various Ge(113) and Si(113) surface reconstructions. Results of DFT calculations are compared to Tersoff potential calculations to assess the relative importance of stress-strain effects compared to electronic effects not captured by empirical atomistic potentials. We find that the self-interstitial-based 3 × 2 adatom-dimer-interstitial and 3×2 adatom-interstitial surface reconstructions are stable for Ge overlayer thicknesses from 0 to 4 monolayers and at applied biaxial strains from ∼−4% to 0%. Abstract: A growing global focus on environmental concerns, in particular the role of carbon emissions in global warming, has created an atmosphere where attitudes towards the environment are a pre-eminent focus. In particular, the role of the motor vehicle in climate change has become increasingly important. In this paper a stated preference experiment is used to examine the impact of an emissions charge on vehicle choice in the context of such environmental attitudes; which are found to be key in explaining preference variation. There exists a substantial amount of research on the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on significant changes in the location at which work takes place, especially working from home (WFH). There has been, however, very little systematic consideration given to the relationship between the substantial increase in WFH and the responses taken by organisations in reviewing their office (workspace) capacity needs in the future, including a switch of the mix of utilising workspace in the main office(s) and satellite office locations. The main aim of this paper is to explore the extent to which levels of working from home and increased use of rented satellite office space will be linked to changes in the amount of workspace required at the main office that was used pre-COVID-19. Using data from 459 businesses for three periods for pre-COVID-19, April 2022 (25 months after the outbreak of the pandemic) and stated intentions for 2023, we develop a random effects regression model for the Greater Sydney Metropolitan Area in which we identify some of the influences on the downsizing or not of the main office(s) work space, and comment on what we see as the most likely scenario for WFH and work space in the main office and rented satellite office space under the 'next normal'. Abstract: Data is typically gathered from an individual respondent who represents the group or the household. This individual is often identified as the “primary decision maker” and is asked to provide responses as a proxy for the group given that the cost of interviewing each member individually is impractical and/or expensive. The collection of joint preferences is rarely undertaken, with the use of proxy responses not uncommon in travel behaviour research. Under such a framework, there exists an assumption that the primary decision maker has perfect knowledge of other group member preferences, and bargaining behaviour, and is able to synthesise this information when providing a response on their behalf. The validity of such an assumption however remains an open question, with recent research calling the reliability of proxy responses into account (). In this paper, using three models estimated in willingness to pay space, we examine the accuracy of proxy responses in a stated choice experiment. We find that there is overlap between a proxy response and the own preferences of the individual providing the proxy choice, but while the proxy responses fail to represent the full preference heterogeneity that exists in the actual choices made by individuals, the proxy responses in aggregate provide a suitable replacement for actual data, subject to a number of caveats. Swift heavy ion (SHI) damage, including single-event gate rupture (SEGR), radiation-induced soft breakdown (RISB), and long-term reliability degradation (LTRD), plays an important role in limiting device lifetime and reliability. However, the atomic-scale physical origins of these phenomena have not been elucidated. In this work, we explain the underlying physical processes responsible for SHI-induced effects in oxides, providing a direct link between atomic motion and macroscopic electrical effects. SRIM 2008 calculations show that SHIs produce low-energy atomic recoils in SiO2. Using parameter-free quantum mechanical calculations, we probe the atomic-scale dynamics of the resulting low-energy atomic displacements. We show that low-energy displacements in SiO2 produce pockets containing high densities of network defects, and that these defects generate electronic states throughout the SiO2 band gap. These spatially correlated defect states represent a low-resistivity ldquoconducting piperdquo through SiO2 layers, and provide an atomistic mechanism for the formation of electrically-active damage that does not rely on thermal spike effects. In the case of SEGR, the conducting pipe allows energy stored on the gate capacitance to be discharged into the oxide, resulting in the permanent damage observed experimentally. The persistence of defects resulting from SHI-induced atomic displacements provides a physical explanation for percolation models of LTRD and RISB. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]

This paper draws on findings from an Australia-wide survey with data collected in three waves throughout 2020 to explore the impact of COVID-19 on public transport trends in metropolitan areas of Australia. Following consideration of the public transport sector response to the pandemic and the emerging literature context, we explore three principal questions: (i) How has weekly travel composition changed across the waves? (ii) How has level of concern with using public transport changed over the course of the pandemic given new bio-security concerns? and (iii) How has attitudes to risk been associated with the changes in PT use? A key finding is that concerns over bio-security issues around public transport are enduring, that concern about hygiene is significantly negatively related to public transport use and that those with higher concern about the hygiene of public transport also held higher concern about COVID-19 at work. Even as COVID-19 restrictions are eased, both concern about crowds and hygiene have a significant and negative correlation with public transport use. The surface faceting of metals has been studied for several decades, typically using experimental methods such as low-energy electron diffraction. In the current paper, surface faceting of tungsten pellets was studied during in situ heating inside an environmental scanning electron microscope (ESEM), which allowed for direct, high-fidelity observation of morphological changes in response to high-temperature annealing under a moderate vacuum (0.8 Torr). Additionally, a second set of tungsten samples was annealed in an ultrahigh vacuum chamber (10−8 Torr), albeit without direct observation via ESEM. This study revealed that oxygen plays a crucial role in tungsten surface faceting and in a morphological transition to vertex rounding. Furthermore, this paper discusses relevant techniques for identifying the crystallographic indices of surface facets. It is demonstrated that a combination of electron backscatter diffraction, tilted-sample imaging from multiple angles, and serial sectioning in a focused ion beam system can be effectively deployed to determine the geometry of faceting, which in turn can be verified with the aid of software for generating Wulff shapes. Here we demonstrate the application of DFT and DFPT calculations to compute bulk reference free energies and surface excess free energies accounting for vibrational and, where appropriate, configurational entropies of solid particles and particle surfaces. Using these results we construct "particle configuration maps"—graphical maps of the equilibrium shape and surface chemistry of particles over a range of temperatures and environmental conditions. Applied to W particles in O- or Ba/O-containing environments (a model system relevant to thermionic dispenser cathodes with critical applications in vacuum electronic devices) these maps highlight the critical role that Ba plays in controlling both the shape and surface chemistry of W particles in application-relevant conditions. These system-specific findings demonstrate the broad power of DFT+DFPT computed particle configuration maps: revealing connections between and insight into particle behavior and properties as a function of experimentally-relevant conditions. The presence of institutional mechanisms to facilitate collaborative activities between operators, and consumer preferences for these activities, have not been studied in the public transport context. Exploring preferences in both intracity and intercity transport options (incorporating long distance transport components such as air services), we use random parameters logit models to analyse integrated travel choice experiments. We show that consumers have preferences for attributes resulting from operator collaboration that can deliver them better door-to-door travel options across the whole transport ecosystem, both in their own city but just as importantly, when travelling to another city. Our results suggest that the proposed method of institutional integration (MaaS 2.0 or CaaS) creates better value for respondents, such that they would be more likely to engage with integrated transport solutions rather than the default option for many, which is the car. Consumers are willing to pay for collaboration activities that inherently arise out of institutionally facilitated interaction between operators and that lead to improvements in their journey. Expansion of institutional integration such as that which may be possible through smart ticketing platforms as an institutional coordination mechanism may facilitate greater development of these features and lead to more integrated travel being chosen by consumers. With the onset of COVID-19 restrictions and the slow relaxing of many restrictions, it is imperative that we understand what this means for the performance of the transport network. In going from almost no commuting, except for essential workers, to a slow increase in travel activity with working from home (WFH) continuing to be both popular and preferred, this paper draws on two surveys, one in late March at the height of restrictions and one in late May as restrictions are starting to be partially relaxed, to develop models for WFH and weekly one-way commuting travel by car and public transport. We compare the findings as one way to inform us of the extent to which a sample of Australian residents have responded through changes in WFH and commuting. The need to recognise and account for the influence of working from home on commuting activity has never been so real as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Not only does this change the performance of the transport network, it also means that the way in which transport modellers and planners use models estimated on a typical weekday of travel and expand it up to the week and the year must be questioned and appropriately revised to adjust for the quantum of working from home. Although teleworking is not a new phenomenon, what is new is the ferocity by which it has been imposed on individuals throughout the world, and the expectation that working from home is no longer a temporary phenomenon but one that is likely to continue to some non-marginal extent given its acceptance and revealed preferences from both many employees and employ where working from home makes good sense. This paper formalises the relationship between working from home and commuting by day of the week and time of day for two large metropolitan areas in Australia, Brisbane and Sydney, using a mixed logit choice model, identifying the influences on such choices together with a mapping model between the probability of working from home and socioeconomic and other contextual influences that are commonly used in strategic transport models to predict demand for various modes by location. The findings, based on Wave 3 (approximately 6 months from the initial outbreak of the pandemic) of an ongoing data collection exercise, provide the first formal evidence for Australia in enabling transport planners to adjust their predicted modal shares and overall modal travel activity for the presence of working from home. Individuals who identify as gifted or LGBTQ + often have qualitatively different academic, social, and emotional experiences throughout their adolescent development. However, scant research exists exploring the development of individuals who hold these intersecting identities. Using an anonymous retrospective qualitative survey, 75 participants who identify as both gifted and LGBTQ + shared narratives about their development as gifted LGBTQ + students. Using interpretive phenomenological analysis, the data revealed three superordinate themes that articulated the overall description of the gifted LGBTQ + participants' development. Since the start of 2020, we have seen major changes in the way communities operate. Mobility behaviour has been drastically impacted by work from home (WFH) and by lockdowns and restrictions in different jurisdictions. This study investigates the influence of WFH and different lockdown patterns on commuting and non-commuting trips in Australia by workers between early 2020 and late 2021. The data includes three waves of data collection to represent different lockdown periods. A multiple discrete–continuous extreme value (MDCEV) model is estimated to represent the number of one-way trips undertaken weekly with different purposes (commuting, work-related, education, shopping, personal business/social recreation), and by different modes (car, public transport, active modes). Explanatory variables include socioeconomic characteristics, location, the time period during the pandemic (i.e., waves). In addition, latent variables were included representing underlying attitudes such as satisfaction towards life or concern about the use of public transport – which might certainly play an important role in understanding individual weekly travel behaviour decisions. The model structure has the advantage that it estimates commuting and non-commuting activity together, allowing for a substitution effect between them. The results suggest that across all waves and jurisdictions, respondents who WFH more are more likely to have a higher number of shopping trips and personal business/social recreation trips, perhaps substituting these trips in replacement of their lesser commuting trips. Interestingly, all other influences held constant, individuals who are more concerned about the use of public transport are more likely to undertake commuting trips by all modes, more likely to do shopping trips, and less likely to undertake personal business/social recreation trips – suggesting they are prioritising essential trips rather than social/personal trips and perceive the risk of COVID-19 to be higher due to this travel. This phenomenological study is an examination of nine elementary school counselors' experiences working with young children who are suicidal. Elementary school counselors were interviewed and asked to describe the phenomenon of suicidal ideation and behaviors they identified within their schools. Five themes emerged from the data, including school counselor role related to suicide, uniqueness of suicide at the elementary level, student interactions with suicide, school counselor reactions to students who are suicidal, and barriers in suicide work.
