Svrha - Klimatske promjene i druga ekološka pitanja zahtijevaju odgovarajuća rješenja svih aktera uključujući i potrošače. The purpose of this paper is to explore the determinants of consumers’ willingness to fight climate change and the probability of their purchase of an electric car, as an action that potentially helps mitigate climate change. Design/Methodology/Approach – The analysis relies on Eurobarometer survey responses of 25,009 individuals from 28 European countries. The determinants of probability of taking action to fight climate change and the determinants of probability of buying an electric car are identified using the Heckman selection model. Findings and implications – The results show that people who are aware of the gravity of climate change and believe that it requires action at all levels of government, business sectors and citizens are more likely to engage in pro-environmental actions. As for electric car purchase, consumers belonging to the middle class and higher classes as well as consumers satisfied with their lives are more likely to buy electric cars than others. However, their attitudes to climate change and actors responsible for it have no impact on their actual purchase. Limitations – The main limitation of this research study is associated with the choice of variables, which was limited to those available in the Eurobarometer survey. Originality – This paper contributes to a better understanding of factors behind environmentally friendly behavior and purchase of electric cars on a large sample of European consumers. Unlike most of the research in this field, the analysis is based on actual purchase data instead of purchase intention.

Head and neck cancers (HNC) are a heterogeneous group of diseases. Histopathological, these are head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) epithelium of the skin, mucosa of the upper aerodigestive tract, pharynx and larynx. HNSCC is the fifth leading cause of cancer worldwide. The most important risk factors are alcohol and smoking. In the recent years, the studies have been conducted in order to prove the role of HPV in HNSCC carcinogenesis. The prevalence of HPV in HNSCC is 30%. HPV is often detected in biological materials of males. People with HPV positive HNSCC respond better to treatment and have a better treatment outcome than patients with no proven HPV. In the future, HPV should be the marker that will influence the choice of therapy in patients with HNSCC, but also the factor that will indicate the outcome of this malignancy in the human population.

carcinoma-HNSCC) ukazuje se na ulogu onkogenih virusa i to humanih papiloma virusa (HPV) Epštajn-Bar virusa (EBV) i BK i JC poliomavirusa, kao i značaju HLA-G polimorfizama. Cilj istraživanja. Cilj studije je bio određivanje učestalosti infekcija i koinfekcija onkogenim virusima i HLA-G polimorfizama i njihova korelacija sa demografskim i bihevioralnim karakteristikama pacijenata i kliničkim statusom HNSCC. Materijal i metod. Rezultati. Introduction. The oncogenic viruses, namely Human papillomaviruses (HPV), Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and BK and JC polyomaviruses, as well as HLA-G polymorphisms may play significant role in the etiology of Head and Neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Aim. Determination of the frequency of oncogenic virus infections and coinfections and HLA-G polymorphisms and their correlation with the demographic and behavioral characteristics of patients and clinical status of HNSCC. Material and method. 100 HNSCC tissue samples were examined. Single, Nested and Real-time PCR were used to detect HPV and EBV, and seminested PCR for polyomaviruses. HPV and EBV genotyping were done by Sanger sequencing method, and Nested PCR, respectively. Determination of HLA-G types was done by Sanger sequencing method. Results. The prevalence of HPV was 27%, EBV 20%, BKV 3% and JCV 0%. Five HPV genotypes were identified with a significant frequency of high-risk types (84%), namely HPV type 16 (57.1%). Both EBV types were detected with a predominance of EBV-1 (93.75%). HPV and EBV are significantly more common in men aged 50 to 69 with laryngeal cancer of pathohistological grade 2. Single infection was found in 28% of samples with a significant prevalence of HPV infection. Co-infections were confirmed in 11% of samples. HPV/EBV co-infection is the most common but without a difference in the frequency of co-infection type. Six HLA-G types were identified, where *01:01:01 is the most common (56.66%), with no difference between HLA-G types and the presence of single infections and co-infections. Conclusion. The association of the presence of oncogenic virus infection with HNSCC has been shown, but without the correlation between HLA-G polymorphisms and presence of oncogenic virus infections and coinfections in HNSCC.

INNOVATIONS in business , *LABOR turnover , *RESEARCH & development , *EMPLOYEE training , *ORGANIZATIONAL performance , *COUNTRIES - Abstract
The purpose of this research is to explore howinvestment in r&d, training of employees, branding and reputation, design and acquisition of technology affect business performance measured in terms of turnover growth in firms operating in eu countries at different levels of innovation performance. This study contributes to the literature by identifying activities that lead to business growth of firms in less innovative countries for which r&d is less relevant. Empirical part of the paper relies on survey data from Flash Eurobarometer 433 (European Commission 2016). Research findings reveal rather complex story behind business growth of firms across eu countries. Impact of r&d on business growth indeed varies across eu countries at different levels of innovativeness. In countries at lower level of innovativeness business growth relies on training of employees, branding and reputation as well as acquisition of new technologies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Some intestinal nematodes of dogs and cats show zoonotic potential, and therefore they are of public-health significance. In the territory of the city of Banja Luka, 149 samples were examined (131 of dogs and 18 cats), with 40 samples of dog feces collected from two public areas in the city. Parasitological examination (saturated zinc sulfate floatation and determination of larvae and adult parasites in feces) resulted in the following data: Toxocara canis (9.16%), Ancylostomatidae (5.34%), Trichuris vulpis (7.63%), Toxascaris leonina (1.52%), Toxocara cati (33.3%), Trichuris spp. (5.5%) and Hydatigera taeniaeformis (5.5%). On the basis of the obtained results we can conclude that the intestinal nematodes are more widespread than is generally assumed and therefore represent a health problem for dogs and cats in the territory of Banja Luka.

Purpose –The purpose of this paper is to analyse whether innovators perceive corruption to be systematically more important than non- innovators across different post-transition EU countries. Design/methodology/approach –We use the Business Environment Survey (BEEPS V) data. The sample consists of 3, 716 firms from the post-transition EU members (Bulgaria, Romania, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Croatia, Slovakia, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovenia and Estonia. We first estimate simple matching model, specifically, average treatment effect of the treated (ATT) framework. In order to explore the determinants of the innovation activity of the firms in the analysed countries, conditional on the fact that they consider the corruption to be important obstacle for their business activity, we employ the Heckman probit procedure. Findings – The results imply that there is a link between innovation activity of the firms, perceptions of corruption and the evaluation of innovation enabling specificities in the analysed countries. Research limitations/implications – Although the results confirm that in most of the analysed countries innovative firms perceive corruption to be major impediment for their business activity, based on this analysis we cannot argue that innovation activity would be higher if corruption perceptions were lower in the analysed countries. Originality/value – The results suggest that, in order to boost innovation, not only traditional innovation- supporting policy measures should be considered, but also wider spectrum of activities oriented towards business climate improvement.

e-shopping ,adoption ,customers ,European Union - Abstract
Despite many advantages of e-commerce for both firms and buyers, it is still not equally adopted by customers in all European Union countries. According to Digital Scoreboard in countries such as United Kingdom and Denmark, nearly 90% of Internet users shop online. On the other hand, in Romania and Bulgaria, not even one-third of the Internet users buy goods and services online. Diffusion of e-shopping clearly has different pace across EU. In this article, we focus on individuals who refuse to purchase over Internet and aim to explore reasons for their behavior. To do so, we rely on Community Statistics on Information Society (CSIS) microdata for the year 2015. Individuals who report ordering and buying over the Internet more than one year ago and those who never engaged in online shopping were asked about reasons for not buying online. Potential reasons include lack of skills, privacy and security concerns, delivery concerns and problems, not having payment cards as well as habit, loyalty and preference of shopping in stores. The focus of this article is on comparison of reasons for not shopping online of individuals in EU countries that lead in adoption of e-shopping with laggard countries. We first analyze the prevalence of reasons for not buying online and compare countries in that respect. Among individuals who did not adopt e- shopping, there are those who have tried it at one point in time and did not continue to use it frequently and those who actually never engaged in buying over Internet. Both have certain reasons and constrains that prevent them from adopting this form of shopping. The analysis is followed by identification of reasons that significantly affect probability of trying online shopping, if not adopting it fully. It can be assumed that gaining true experience might contribute to increase in adoption of e-shopping among individuals. This is even more important for countries that still lag behind not just in buying online but in overall digital performance.

Chemical and physical stability, high adsorption capacity and low-toxicological profile are very important features for application of nanoparticles (NPs) in the biomedical field. Physicochemical and biochemical characteristics of nanoparticles are very much dependent on the synthesis method. One of the promising, environmentally conscious method is the green synthesis of NPs using plant extracts. The aim of the this research was to present new plant extract for the synthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) and to test antimicrobial activity of in this way obtained ZnO NPs. In this study acetonic extract of flowers of Geranium robertianum L. (Geraniaceae) was used for phytosynthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs). G. robertianum aerial parts are a good source of plant phenolics, particularly flavonoids which have an important role in metal nanoparticle synthesis. Total flavonoid content (4.2%) of acetonic extract used in ZnO NPs synthesis was determined by aluminum chloride spectrophotometric assay on 425 nm. Characterization of ZnO nanoparticles obtained by phytosynthesis procedure was done using UV/VIS spectrophotometry and IC spectroscopy. Obtained ZnO NPs were also tested as potential antimicrobial agents, considering that microorganisms rarely develop antimicrobial resistance against NPs. The Muller-Hinton agar well diffusion method was used for evaluation of ZnO NPs antimicrobial activity against Gram negative (Escherichia coli, Acinetobacter baumannii, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and Gram positive (three clinical isolates of Staphylococcus aureus) bacteria. The total flavonoid content of acetonic extract of flowers of G. robertianum used for ZnO NPs synthesis was 4.2%. The size of obtained ZnO NPs was approximately 40 nm. All three S. aureus isolates exhibited sensitivity (average value of inhibition zones around 15 mm), while Gram-negative bacteria were resistant to ZnO NPs activity. The results from our study confirm that acetonic extract of flowers of G. robertianum can be used for synthesis of ZnO NPs with significant antimicrobial activity towards Gram-positive bacteria. Recent research on nanocomposites as potential pharmaceutical carriers, is focused on utilization of inorganic matrices with layered structure in which bioactive molecules/drugs are incorporated. One of the promising inorganic material with such layered structure is clay, which is quite common ingredient in pharmaceutical products, both as excipient or active substance. Clay minerals are not only "inert ingredients", but they can also be used to decrease or increase dissolution rate, delay and/or target drug release, to prevent possible side effects, taste masking or increase stability. Prosperity of clay-based drug delivery systems depends on the amount of a drug retained by the clay, on its release kinetics and on the total amount released during therapeutic regime. Thus, it is very essential to understand and to improve the physico--chemical aspects of drug--clay complexes. The aim of this research is to provide more information on drug-clay stability formulations. Pyrophyllite clay, (Parsovići, Konjic, Bosnia and Herzegovina), Al
2 Si4 O10 (OH)2 , is a smectite clay type (talc-pyrophyllite group) and was used here as a potential pharmaceutical carrier. Stability of pyrophillite and bioactive molecule/drug was estimated by use of thermal analysis methods (differential thermal analysis/ thermogravimetric analysis - TGA/DTA) and Fouriertransform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Additionally detailed kinetic study was done using contemporary kinetic software in order to evaluate kinetics of clay/ bioactive molecule (drug) complex. Antimicrobial study was performed against Staphylococcus aureus (Gram positive bacteria) and Escherichia coli (Gram In epruvetes with 9.9 mL of Muller- Hinton broth and 0.1 mL of bacterial inoculum adjusted to 0.5 McFarland standard was added 1 gram of sterilized pyrophillite. Incubation with 120 rpm shaking was performed during 24h at 37 °C. Decomposition of neat pyrophillite is one-step process with following kinetic triplet: Ea (activation energy) - 216 kJ/mol; A (pre-exponential factor) - 4.1687 x 1010 s-1 and N-th order model, while clay/drug mixture decomposition is a four step process. Third stage in mixture decomposition is of special interest, because decomposition of pyrophillite is happening there. Kinetic parameters for the third stage are as follows: Ea - 176 kJ/mol, A -- 6.537 x 108 s-1 and the N-th order model also gave the best fit. After overnight incubation, we noticed highly significant removing of both bacteria from broth. Staphylococcus aureus was reduced from 2.3 x 109 s-1 cfu/mL to 5.5 x 106 s-1 cfu/mL, while Escherichia coli was reduced from 4.5 x 1011 s-1 cfu/mL to 3.5 x 108 s-1 cfu/ mL. Based on the kinetic results we can conclude that thermal stability of pyrophillite is slightly lowered comparing to neat pyrophillite data, but on the other hand pyrophillite did not make any impact on thermal stability of other components in mixture. This information is of great interest for stability assessment of clay/drug mixture. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

innovation investment, (post)transition economies, developed economies, multinomial probit - Abstract
The slow progress of innovation in transition economies is not related just to firms' decision to invest in innovation activities. Rather, it is worth distinguishing between their decision to increase investment, reduce it, keep their investments at the same level or not invest in innovation activities at all. To understand these decisions we develop and estimate models for post-transition and developed European countries employing multinomial probit. The analysis relies on responses of 2580 firms from 11 post-transition countries and 4058 firms from 18 European countries collected by the Flash Eurobarometer 433 - Innobarometer 2016 survey. We have established that the firms' decision making process in general is mostly related to previous innovation investment experience. In transition countries, the higher the percent of turnover invested in innovation, the lower the probability of an increase in the future. In the firms operating in developed economies, lower turnover from new products is related to the decision to decrease innovation investment in the future.

Background/Aim. The oral cavity and oropharyngeal cancers are among the most common cancers worldwide with the multifactorial etiology. The aim of this study was to determine the major risk factors among patients with oral cavity and oropharyngeal tumors in Serbia. Methods. A total of 63 patients with biopsy proven malignant (33 patients) or benign (30 patients) oral cavity or oropharyngeal lesions were included in this study. The data about gender, age, smoking habits and alcohol consumption were obtained from the routine medical files. The detection and genotyping of human papillomavirus (HPV) was done in paraffin embedded tissue samples using in situ hybridization. Results. Malignant lesions were more frequent in men, smokers and patients who consume alcohol with a statistically significant difference compared to the patients with benign lesions. The prevalence of HPV infection was higher in patients with malignant lesions compared to patients with benign lesions, but without statistically significant difference. High risk genotypes were detected only in patients with malignant lesions of tonsils and base tongue cancer, while low risk types were demonstrated in patients with benign lesions with a highly statistically significant difference. Conclusion. The results point to the significant association of tobacco smoking, alcohol consumption and high risk HPV genotypes as risk factors for oral cavity and oropharyngeal carcinomas in Serbian patients. kreativne i kulturne industrije ,mapiranje ,doprinos gospodarstvu - Abstract

inovativnost ,plaće ,zaposlenost ,dobno-obrazovna struktura zaposlenih - Abstract

Purpose – The key question addressed in the paper is whether creativity fostering methods increase innovation output in Croatian firms. Design/methodology/approach – By utilizing the Community Innovation Survey 2010 data and propensity score matching methods, we estimate the average treatment effect of the treated (i.e. firms that employ creativity stimulation methods). Within this framework, our measured outcome is the innovation activity of the firm and the treatment is the creativity stimulation method used by the firm. Findings – The results confirm that the creativity enhancing methods have a positive impact on innovation activity in Croatian enterprises. The empirical analysis of average treatment effect of the treated reveals that the most effective measure seems to be training, followed closely by multidisciplinary working teams. Non-financial creativity enhancing methods seem to be least effective. Research limitations/implications – The results follow some stylized facts related to Croatian enterprises. However, since this paper provides first attempt of the analysis of these issues, future research efforts are required to substantiate our findings. Originality/value – The analysis of effectiveness of creativity fostering methods for innovation activity has proved that the innovation activity can be enhanced by employing each of the method analysed in the paper.

DECISION making in investments , *INVESTMENTS - Abstract
[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the introduction of marketing innovations by companies in Croatia. This study provides an insight into the innovativeness with regard to the introduction of marketing innovations. It explores the presence of marketing innovations in general and the introduction of four types of marketing innovation (significant changes to the aesthetic design or packaging, new media or techniques for product promotion, new methods for product placement or sales channels and new methods of pricing goods or services). The changes in all four elements of the marketing mix are described. The paper also explores the extent to which the introduction of marketing innovation is related to the companies that introduce other types of innovations., Cilj je ovog rada analizirati uvođenje marketinških inovacija u Hrvatskoj.

Croatian enterprises report relatively low level of innovativeness. The objective of this paper is to identify factors that constraint innovation activity of Croatian firms. The analysis is focused on the impact of constraining factors on the decision to abandon and delay innovation development employing Croatian Community Innovation Survey 2006 (CIS2006) data. Exploration of factors leading to abandonments or delays of innovation projects relies on 1041 enterprises that reported any form of innovation activity. The results of the analysis reveal the differences in sensitivity to various constraining factors when it comes to decision to abandon and delay innovation development., Hrvatska poduzeća bilježe relativno nisku razinu inovativnosti.

fiskalna decentralizacija ,Hrvatska ,SOCIAL SCIENCES.

Rezultati upućuju da MKTOR ljestvica ima svojstva pouzdanosti, konvergentne i diskriminantne valjanosti i da je pogodna za mjerenje tržišne orijentacije u hrvatskim poduzećima., In this paper we analyze the psychometric characteristics of MKTOR scale for measuring market orientation developed by Narver and Slater (1990). The analysis is conducted in order to asses if this scale is applicable for measuring a market orientation in Croatian enterprises. Reliability and convergent and discriminant validity are assessed. In order to asses the reliability of the scale we used Cronbach alpha coefficient while the validity is assessed using confirmatory factor analysis. The results indicate reliability and convergent and discriminant validity of MKTOR scale that makes it applicable for measuring market orientation in Croatian enterprises.
