A study fabricated and tested a three-dimensional, rapid single flux quantum logic circuit based on a new type of superconducting, stacked, three-terminal device called the stackron. The junctions in the study were used as active devices. The stackrons with overdamped junctions ought to increase the packaging capability and perhaps the maximum clock frequency of a rapid single flux quantum logic circuit. Experiments results are discussed.

This paper presents a high CMRR current mode CMOS preamplifier for a dual stripe magnetoresistive (DSMR) read head for magnetic recording systems. The current mode design approach avoids high impedance nodes in the circuit and helps in achieving a high bandwidth. The differential circuit topology and the common mode negative feedback greatly ira. prove the CMRR and PSRR. The preamplifier is designed using a 0.5 [[micro]meter] CMOS technology. The achieved 3-dB bandwidth is 120-MHz at a gain of 45 dB, the CMRR and PSRR are 62 and 74 dB, respectively. The equivalent input noise voltage is 1.83 nV/[-square root of Hz].

Research is conducted on a new methodology that can revolutionize integrated circuit process design the way that microelectronics manufacturing science and technology and ASIC changed factory operation and circuit design, respectively. The technology called process synthesis is aimed at developing a systematic method and an integrated design capability that will yield robust integrated circuit processes at a much shorter time.

A more formal designated optimum design for manufacturing (ODFM) that can efficiently produce the desired result with a minimal investment in cost and time is discussed. Future generations for integrated circuits are expected to shrink further. Thus, the need to highlight TCAD procedures as central to manufacturing issues to yield optimization and product quality should be considered. New procedures that result in the best design are described.

Design trade-off relations relate the normalized simultaneous switching noise and normalized switching time to driver size, load capacitance, and ground/power path inductance. The relations are applicable for the last stage of a complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor off-chip driver. The trade-offs also relate the switching patterns to the number of switching drivers and input signal rise time. A dimensionless analysis method allows the extension of the design to many systems that can be simulated using SPICE.

An innovative design concept based on a pushing-forward type of interaction between single flux quanta stored in RSFQ gates and newly-arrived data SFQ pulses is developed as part of rapid single-flux-quantum logic. The concept makes possible more efficient circuit design at the gate level, higher operational speed and smaller power dissipation. The concept is used to design and construct two types of Carry-Save serial adders for digital signal processing applications.

The objective of this paper is to present a design technique that constructs a two-layer feedforward network for the realization of an arbitrary set of bipolar associations (p(sub i)), q(sub i)), i = 1, ..., k. The underlying idea is to use a layer of the hard- logic neurons to identify each p(sub i) in the winner-take-all fashion. Then the second layer of the so-called sign neurons picks up the corresponding pattern q(sub i). An important feature of the net is that it can be used as an error-correcting associative memory if the thresholds of the hard-logic neurons in the first layer are properly adjusted.

A different circuit configuration for the slip-power recovery system is presented in this paper. A boost chopper is used to connect the diode rectifier to the dc-link voltage, which is composed of a capacitor and a voltage-source inverter (VSI). The diode rectifier gives rise to mains current harmonics of variable frequency, which can present subharmonics, harmonics, and interharmonics that can lead to flicker in the mains. Two simple solutions to this drawback are studied. In the first solution, additional inductances were connected on the ac side of the rotor circuits to increase the overlap angle. In the second solution, the stator current harmonics are compensated by a VSI that can work simultaneously as an inverter and as an active power filter. This system represents a very interesting and useful application for active power filters. The merits of the configuration presented are cost, control simplicity, the possibility of reactive power control over a wide range, and quasi-optimum exploitation of the electrical machine. The characteristics of the proposed system and its control are presented in this paper. It is concluded that, although the system proposed is much simpler than others, it has interesting performance.
