Abstract Background Violence against people with intellectual disabilities is unfortunately a reality all over the world, as they are one of the populations most vulnerable to various forms of aggression. Assertive prevention and control measures are crucial to tackle and reduce this problem. The aim of this study was to map and summarize the main measures for preventing and controlling domestic violence against people with intellectual disabilities. Methods This was a scoping review conducted in accordance with the JBI guidelines. The databases consulted were: National Library of Medicine (PubMed); Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), Web of Science; Excerpta Medica DataBASE (EMBASE); Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature (LILACS) and SCOPUS. Studies included in this review reported on strategies to address domestic violence against people with intellectual disabilities, published in the last ten years, in Portuguese, Spanish or English. Results A total of 11 studies were included in this review. Six studies had high methodological quality and five had moderate. Cognitive-behavioral intervention programs, educational technologies and/or auxiliary tools, along with the full participation of people with intellectual disabilities in domestic violence prevention measures are appropriate strategies for dealing with this issue. Conclusion Domestic violence against people with intellectual disabilities is relatively unexplored in the health-field scientific literature. Prevention and control measures should be developed with the active involvement of people with intellectual disabilities, generating engagement and knowledge. Preventive measures should be adapted to the personal context and conditions of individuals with special needs, such as those with persistent or chronic mental disorders.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to assess the physical and mental components of nursing professionals’ quality of life and associate them with individual, health and work characteristics. Methods: cross-sectional research, with nursing professionals from a university hospital in São Paulo. Own questionnaire and validated instruments were applied. Results: the overall quality of life was compromised. The physical component was lower in relation to low family income and among those who perceived greater control/pressure at work, and better for those who practiced physical activity and had support of leader and organization. The mental component was lower in professionals who reported dissatisfaction with work, worse self-rated physical health and were older. Scores for both components reduced due to work-related illnesses, worse work ability and increased daytime sleepiness. Conclusions: quality of life was statistically associated with controllable institutional factors and individual resources that, except age, can be promoted.

ABSTRACT Objective This study aimed to verify oral candidiasis, identify the causative species, and investigate the antifungal susceptibility of yeasts isolated from liver transplant patients. Methods A descriptive analysis of 97 patients who underwent liver transplantation was conducted at a hospital. Two clinical examinations (Collections A and B) of the oral cavity were performed. Oral material was collected from all patients, inoculated in Sabouraud Dextrose Agar, and incubated at 35℃ for 48 hours. Samples were identified by molecular sequencing of the internal trascribed space region of rDNA. Results An antifungal susceptibility test with fluconazole, amphotericin B, and micafungin was performed using the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute yeast broth microdilution method. Among the patients, 15 presented with oral candidiasis: eight in Collection A and seven in Collection B. The primary type of candidiasis was atrophic, followed by pseudomembranous candidiasis. The most prevalent species was Candida albicans (nine), followed by Candida glabrata (three), Candida tropicalis (two), and Candida dubliniensis (one). Regarding susceptibility to fluconazole, of the 15 samples, 11 were susceptible, three were susceptible in a dose-dependent manner, and one was resistant. Conclusion The most commonly identified type of candidiasis was atrophic, with C. albicans and C. glabrata being the most prevalent causative species. One fluconazole-resistant isolate each of C. tropicalis and C. albicans were identified.

Summary: Background: The prevalence of healthcare-associated infective endocarditis in Brazil is poorly known. Aim: To analyze the epidemiological, clinical and microbiological characteristics, and the prognosis of healthcare-associated infective endocarditis (HAIE) compared with community-acquired infective endocarditis (CIE) and identify the associated factors with hospital mortality. Method: A historical cohort study was carried out, with a data collection period from January 2009 to December 2019 at the Federal University of São Paulo. Data were collected from medical records of patients with infective endocarditis (IE) hospitalized during the study period. Patients were classified into three groups: CIE, non-nosocomial HAIE (NN-HAIE) and nosocomial HAIE (NHAIE). ABSTRACT Objectives: to report an educational technology construction on nursing professionals’ rights. Methods: an experience report on educational technology construction during the crediting of university extension hours in an undergraduate nursing course at a Brazilian public university, between March and June 2023. The Deming cycle was used as a procedural method. Results: four meetings were held between students and extension workers. Eight comic books were produced based on the Code of Ethics for Nurses, addressing professional autonomy, fair remuneration, risk-free work, denial of exposure in the media and others. The Deming cycle proved to be an important strategy for constructing products. Conclusions: nursing professionals’ rights must be discussed and improved. Educational technologies, such as comic books, provide playful and reflective learning.

ABSTRACT Objective: to verify sepsis incidence among young adults admitted to intensive care due to COVID-19 and to analyze its association with demographic, clinical and outcome variables. Methods: a quantitative, longitudinal, retrospective and analytical study, consisting of 58 adults aged 20 to 40 years in intensive care for SARS-CoV-2. It was carried out in a university hospital, from March 2020 to December 2021, with data collected from electronic medical records. Results: sepsis incidence was 65%. Sepsis was associated with acute kidney injury, use of vasoactive drugs and mechanical ventilation, being admitted to the emergency room, severity according to the Simplified Acute Physiology Score III and bacterial pulmonary co-infection, the latter being the most frequent etiology for sepsis. Conclusions: there was a high sepsis incidence, with 42% of deaths, which points to the importance of investing in preventive measures, especially in relation to bacterial pulmonary coinfections.

Resumo Objetivo Descrever a prevalência de lesão renal aguda em adultos jovens com diagnóstico da COVID-19 admitidos em unidade terapia intensiva. Métodos Estudo retrospectivo, quantitativo e analítico. A amostra foi de adultos jovens (20 a 40 anos) admitidos em unidades de terapia intensiva, com diagnóstico de infecção por SARS-CoV-2 entre março e dezembro de 2020. Os dados foram obtidos por meio do prontuário eletrônico, e a lesão renal aguda foi definida pelo valor da creatinina, segundo critérios das diretrizes da Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes. A significância estatística foi de p≤0,05. Resultados Foram internados 58 adultos jovens, sendo 63,8% do sexo masculino. A hipertensão arterial sistêmica esteve presente em 39,6%, a obesidade em 18,9% e o diabetes mellitus em 8,6%. A lesão renal aguda foi identificada em 55,1%, sendo o estágio 3 predominante em 43,1% deles. Nesses pacientes, o uso de ventilação mecânica e de drogas vasoativas foi significativo em 92%, assim como a disfunção orgânica respiratória (80%), seguida da renal (76%). Fatores de risco, como transplante renal ou doença renal crônica e obesidade, aumentaram em 12,3 e 9,0 vezes, respectivamente, a chance de desenvolver lesão renal aguda. Conclusão Este estudo demonstrou alta prevalência de lesão renal em adultos jovens e sua associação com comorbidades prévias. Obesidade, transplante renal e doença renal crônica elevaram a chance de o adulto jovem desenvolver lesão renal aguda, resultando em desfechos a favor da morbimortalidade.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to present the pillars that support what has been called Advanced Practice Nursing and discuss the necessary training for its implementation. Methods: elements contained in assessment documents for graduate programs proposals, reports of presentations by international professors in countries and selected scientific publications were gathered to compose the argument. Results: practice/competency (adds broad and in-depth knowledge about health processes and scientific evidence, clinical reasoning and clinical skills for therapeutic indications); 3) professional regulation (corresponding legislation and monitoring); and 4) funding (broad training and professional practice policy). Final Considerations: the agenda for implementing Advanced Practice Nursing in Brazil involves joining efforts to identify stakeholders for a work to legitimize their importance in the country’s health and education overview.

Resumo Objetivo identificar as alterações bioquímicas dos pacientes com apresentação moderada e grave da doença Covid-19 e as preditivas de gravidade nos que evoluíram do estagio moderado para o grave. Métodos Estudo de coorte prospectivo com 709 pacientes internados com diagnóstico confirmado de COVID-19 e apresentação moderada e grave da doença. Foi realizado em um hospital universitário de média e alta complexidade do estado de São Paulo, no período de abril de 2020 a dezembro de 2021. Os dados coletados dos prontuários foram exames laboratoriais e evolução clínica dos pacientes. Na análise descritiva, foi utilizado frequência absoluta, percentual, média e desvio padrão. Os Testes do Qui-Quadrado de Pearson, Exato de Fisher, Mann-Whitney ou t de Student foram utilizados para comparar as diferenças entre os grupos dos moderados e graves. ABSTRACT Objectives: to verify the relationship of cardiovascular diseases with acute kidney injury and assess the prognosis of patients in renal replacement therapy. Methods: a cohort study, carried out in a public hospital specialized in cardiology. Treatment, comorbidities, duration of treatment, laboratory tests, discharge and deaths were analyzed. Introdução: A infecção causada pela Influenza é caracterizada por infecção viral aguda, de alta transmissibilidade, a qual se dá pelas vias respiratórias, mediante secreções, como gotículas, aerossóis e contato com a mucosa. O agravamento do caso pode levar à necessidade de hospitalização, e em alguns casos, podendo levar à morte. Objetivo: Identificar os fatores associados ao óbito por síndrome respiratória aguda grave (SRAG) causada por Influenza, na população adulta, no Brasil. Método: Estudo transversal, populacional, realizado a partir de dados secundários do Sistema de Informação de Vigilância Epidemiológica da Gripe (SIVEP- Gripe). Foram analisados casos de todas as regiões do Brasil, com início na semana epidemiológica 8 de 2020 até a semana epidemiológica 4 de 2022. Critérios de inclusão: idade igual ou superior a 18 anos, idade inferior a 60 anos, com diagnóstico de Influenza por RT-PCR e com evolução do caso (óbito sim, não) registrada. Casos com registros incompletos ou com informações inconsistentes, foram excluídos. Resultados: Foram identificados 2273 adultos com SRAG por Influenza, durante o período estudado. 343 tiveram o óbito como desfecho, com taxa de letalidade de 15,09%, para o grupo estudado. Introdução: A Influenza é caracterizada por infecção viral aguda, a qual pode levar a quadros graves e à morte, especialmente em populações de maior vulnerabilidade, como os idosos. Objetivo: Analisar os casos registrados no Brasil, de síndrome respiratória aguda grave (SRAG) por influenza, na população idosa, e investigar os fatores relacionados ao óbito por este agravo. Método: Estudo transversal, populacional, realizado a partir de dados secundários do Sistema de Informação de Vigilância Epidemiológica da Gripe (SIVEP- Gripe). Foram analisados casos de todas as regiões do Brasil, com início na semana epidemiológica 8 de 2020 até a semana epidemiológica 4 de 2022. Critérios de inclusão: idosos a partir de 60 anos com diagnóstico de Influenza por RT-PCR, dada a elevada sensibilidade e especificidade do teste, e com evolução do caso (óbito sim, não) registrada. Resultados: Foram identificados 3547 idosos com SRAG por Influenza, sendo 1185 casos com o desfecho óbito, registrando uma taxa de letalidade de 24,6%. A comorbidade mais prevalente foi a doença Cardiovascular (46,1%), seguida de Diabetes (26,6%). Dentre os idosos com o desfecho negativo do caso, 87,4% não estavam vacinados contra Influenza. Destacam-se como principais fatores de risco para óbito o uso de suporte ventilatório invasivo, internação em UTI, raça parda e dispneia (p < 0,001). Além disso, possuir doença neurológica crônica (p = 0,002), apresentar desconforto respiratório (p = 0,006) e saturação de O2 abaixo de 95% (p = 0,017), também foram consideradas fator de risco para o óbito. Destaca-se a identificação da variável vacina contra gripe, como protetora ao desfecho desfavorável, mostrando-se eficiente em prevenir o óbito em 72% dos casos estudados. Conclusão: Este estudo possibilitou conhecer o perfil de idosos com SRAG por Influenza no Brasil, e identificou os fatores associados ao óbito nesta população. Além disso, evidencia-se a necessidade de estimular a adesão à vacinação entre a população idosa, a fim de prevenir casos graves e desfechos desfavoráveis relacionados à Influenza.

Objetivo: analisar a frequência de sífilis entre os usuários do Centro de Testagem e Aconselhamento de Montes Claros, Minas Gerais, e os fatores associados à infecção. Método: trata-se de um estudo transversal, com componentes descritivos e analíticos, realizado com usuários atendidos no serviço entre 2014 e 2019. Os dados foram coletados de fonte secundária, por amostragem aleatória e sistemática. Resultados: a amostra foi composta por 957 formulários de usuários e a frequência de casos de testes rápidos reagentes para sífilis foi de 11,3%, com distribuição semelhante entre os sexos. O diagnóstico da sífilis se associou de forma significativa às variáveis: situação conjugal, idade, escolaridade, quantidade de parcerias sexuais, orientação sexual e uso de drogas no último ano. Conclusão: programas de aconselhamento e testagem rápida devem ser incentivados para prevenção e diminuição das infecções sexualmente transmissíveis em Montes Claros e em todo país.

Introduction: Worldwide, Chlamydia trachomatis infection remains a major public health problem, especially for sexually active young adults. Objective: To investigate the sexually transmitted disease by Chlamydia trachomatis in adolescents and young women aged 15–25 years from Cuiabá and Várzea Grande, Mato Grosso, Brazil, through the ELISA and direct immunofluorescence methods. Methods: A cross-sectional quantitative study of endocervical samples from 328 nonpregnant, sexually active women who received care in basic health units. Endocervical samples were collected and C. trachomatis antigens detected by ELISA and direct immunofluorescence methods. Results: A total of 11 positive samples were obtained with ELISA (3.4%) and 69 with direct immunofluorescence (24.4%). The largest number of cases occurred in the 16–25 years age group (24.39%). Conclusion: The rate of positive cases observed was representative, similarly to those found in other studies, and, therefore, indicating Chlamydia strains circulating in the population studied. Amplification of prophylactic, diagnostic, and therapeutic measures in public health services will be an important step to counter the spread of sexually transmitted diseases, including genital infection by C. trachomatis in the female population.

Abstract Background: The efficacy of bone marrow mesenchymal stromal cells (BM-MSC) and its extracellular vesicles has been demonstrated for a broad spectrum of indications, including kidney diseases. However, BM-MSC donor characteristics and their potential are not usually considered. Therefore, the present work aims to evaluate the nephroprotective capacity of sEV secreted by BM-MSC from trained rats inunilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) model. Methods: BM-MSC was characterized by their differentiation potential and immunophenotypic markers. The sEV were isolated by ultracentrifugation and characterized by nanoparticle tracking analysis and western blot. Its miRNA cargo was examined by quantitative PCR analysis for miR-26a, 126a, and 296. Wistar rats were submitted to UUO procedure and concomitantly treated with sEV secreted by BM-MSC from the untrained andtrained rats. The kidney tissue from all groups was evaluated for fibrosis mediators (transforming growth factor beta1 and collagen), CD34-angiogenesis marker, and hypoxia-inducible factor 1 alpha (HIF-1α). Results: Treadmill training stimulated in BM-MSC the production of sEV loaded with pro-angiogenic miR-296. The treatment with this sEVin UUO-rats was able to attenuate collagen accumulation and increase CD34 and HIF-1α in the kidney tissue when compared to untrained ones. Tubular proximal cells under hypoxia and exposed to BM-MSC sEV demonstrate accumulation in HIF-1α and NFR-2 (nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2), possibly to mediate the response to hypoxia and oxidative stress, under these conditions. Conclusion: The BM-MSC sEV from trained animals presented an increased nephroprotective potential compared to untrained vesicles by carrying 296-angiomiR and contributing to angiogenesis in UUO model.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to analyze and compare levels of stress and resilience in nurses before and after the assessment for maintenance of the Hospital Accreditation Certification. Methods: quantitative, observational, and longitudinal research, with 53 nurses from a philanthropic hospital, in the Rio Grande do Sul. Data collected in two stages, March, and July 2019, before the assessment visit and 60 days after, using the Bianchi Stress Scale and Resilience Scale. Descriptive and analytical statistics were employed. Results: the majority of participants showed an average stress level before and after the evaluation. The highest stress scores were related to Domains E (coordination of unit activities) and C (activities related to personnel administration). In both moments of the study, the participants had medium and high resilience. Conclusions: managing people, processes, and assistance are stressful activities in the Accreditation process and increase the nurses’ stress levels.

Abstract Either bites or stings of venomous animals comprise relevant public health problems in tropical countries. Acute kidney injury (AKI) induced by animal toxins is related to worse prognostic and outcomes. Being one the most important pathways to induce AKI following envenoming due to animal toxins, inflammation is an essential biological response that eliminates pathogenic bacteria and repairs tissue after injury. However, direct nephrotoxicity (i.e. apoptotic and necrotic mechanisms of toxins), pigmenturia (i.e. rhabdomyolysis and hemolysis), anaphylactic reactions, and coagulopathies could contribute to the renal injury. All these mechanisms are closely integrated, but inflammation is a distinct process. Hence, it is important to improve our understanding on inflammation mechanisms of these syndromes to provide a promising outlook to reduce morbidity and mortality. This literature review highlights the main scientific evidence of acute kidney injury induced by bites or stings from venomous animals and their inflammatory mechanisms. It included observational, cross-sectional, case-control and cohort human studies available up to December 2019. Descriptors were used according to Medical Subject Headings (MeSH), namely: “Acute kidney injury” or “Venom” and “Inflammation” on Medline/Pubmed and Google Scholar; “Kidney disease” or “Acute kidney injury” on Lilacs and SciELO. The present review evidenced that, among the described forms of renal inflammation, it can occur either directly or indirectly on renal cells by means of intravascular, systemic and endothelial hemolysis, activation of inflammatory pathway, as well as direct action of venom cytotoxic components on kidney structures.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to assess quality of life (QoL) and satisfaction with life (SWL) indices and verify whether the frequency of religious and spiritual experiences is associated with QoL and SWL in hospitalized octogenarians. Method: this is a cross-sectional study, with 128 octogenarians. World Health Organization QoL instruments and Scales applied: Daily Spiritual Experience (DSES) and Satisfaction With Life (SWLS). Results: more committed domains related to QoL and SWL: autonomy and physical capacity. The higher the score in DSES, the higher the scores in the psychological domains and past, present, and future QoL activities. The higher the score in DSES, the higher the score in the social involvement aspect. Conclusion: the results of this study showed that the higher frequency of religious and spiritual experiences of hospitalized elderly people was associated with better QoL and SWL. It is emphasized that religious and spiritual experiences should be explored in the hospital therapeutic context.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to assess the prevalence of colonization and infection by multidrug-resistant bacteria in patients undergoing kidney transplantation and identify the rate of infection, morbidity and mortality and associated risk factors. Methods: a prospective cohort of 200 randomly included kidney transplant recipients. ABSTRACT Objective: To assess body image dissatisfaction among adolescents from Northern Minas Gerais. Method: This is a cross-sectional study with adolescents of both sexes, enrolled in the sixth to ninth year in the municipal public education network. A questionnaire was used, composed of sociodemographic and body image variables, which was obtained through a scale of silhouette figures. The anthropometric measurements of weight and height were performed to estimate body mass index. The correlation between the classification of the body mass index and the body image of adolescents was estimated through weighted Kappa. Results: A total of 535 adolescents participated, and 24.5% had different classifications between the real and ideal body image. The Kappa index for the classification of body image was 0.51, 0.58 and 0.32 for the total of adolescents, girls and boys, respectively. Conclusion: Public school adolescents are dissatisfied with their self-body image.

Objective: to identify the prevalence of latent tuberculosis in patients with chronic kidney disease on hemodialysis and associated factors. Method: a cross-sectional study conducted with 176 patients with chronic kidney disease on hemodialysis. The tuberculin test was performed with the standardized antigen, distributed by the Brazilian Ministry of Health, and the reading occurred after 72 to 96 hours of the application. An association test (Chi-square, Fisher’s exact), prevalence ratio, and multivariate regression tests were performed. Results: the prevalence of latent tuberculosis diagnosed through Tuberculosis Skin Test was 8.5% (15/176). The “has/has had diabetes” (aOR: 0.117; 95%CI: 0.015-0.92) and “having regular garbage collection (aOR: 0.076; 95%CI: 0.008-0.702) factors were associated with a lower probability of having a Positive skin test. Conclusion: the low prevalence of latent tuberculosis identified and the factors associated with it reinforce the need for screening for latent tuberculosis infection for diabetics combined with an analysis of previous risk factors and comorbidities.

Introdução: Reações transfusionais podem acarretar sérias consequências aos receptores de hemocomponentes. Objetivo: Analisar a proporção de reações adversas quanto ao grau de severidade observado nas transfusões de sangue e identificar os fatores associados à gravidade dos incidentes transfusionais imediatos. Método: Estudo longitudinal retrospectivo de avaliação epidemiológica das reações transfusionais imediatas ocorridas entre 2007-2019 em hospital de ensino. Resultados: Das 332.222 transfusões sanguíneas administradas, foram reportadas 1.448 notificações de reações transfusionais imediatas. A média de incidência de reação transfusional foi de 4,4 por mil/ano. As reações moderadas e graves representam 13,5% do total dos eventos. Hemoglobulina e hematócrito não apresentaram distribuição normal (p ≤ 0,001). Conclusões: A análise dos dados possibilitou avaliar a prática transfusional na instituição, que se mostrou adequada, refletindo os constantes esforços para retroalimentar o Sistema Nacional de Hemovigilância. A gravidade das reações está associada à unidade de internação, sendo mais frequentes as graves nas unidades críticas e semicríticas, porém o estudo demonstrou que não se deve negligenciar as reações leves.

ABSTRACT Objective: to assess the quality of life and body image of men with difficulty urinating and indwelling urinary catheter users, integrating the socio-demographic, economic and morbidity variables. Method: a cross-sectional analytical study with 64 male patients with urinary problems. Three questionnaires were used for data collection: one containing sociodemographic, economic and morbid data, the Medical Outcome Study 36-item short-form health survey to analyze quality of life, and the Body Dysmorphic Examination, which assesses body image. T-test, Mann-Whitney, Pearson, Spearman, Linear Regression and Stepwise were used. Results: quality of life and body image were compromised in both groups, affecting emotional aspects, with a high degree of body dissatisfaction and altered physical and social adversity. Conclusion: changes in patients’ quality of life and body image were observed, confirming the need for improvement in care.

Objective: to verify the association between the health-related quality of life of chronic renal patients on hemodialysis with sociodemographic, clinical, depression and medication adherence characteristics. Method: a cross-sectional study with 183 chronic renal patients undergoing hemodialysis in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. A sociodemographic and clinical questionnaire, Kidney Disease and Quality of Life Short-Form, Beck Depression Inventory and Morisky Medication Adherence Scale - eight items were used. Among the variables, comorbidities, complications of kidney disease and intercurrences during and after hemodialysis were evaluated. The analysis was performed with descriptive and analytical statistics. Results: 55.2% of the patients were 60 years old or older, 35.0% were hypertensive, with regular quality of life, average of 62.61. Scores below average in the dimensions of quality of life were mainly associated with repetitive infections and edema as complications of the disease, pain during hemodialysis and weakness afterwards. Low drug adherence resulted in a worse quality of life, impacting ten of the 20 dimensions evaluated and depression in all, except for patient satisfaction. Conclusion: reduced quality of life in this population is associated with depressive symptoms, complications such as repetitive infections, pain and anemia, weakness after the dialysis session and low medication adherence. Actions aimed at changing these factors can promote well-being.

ABSTRACT Objective: to assess scientific evidence on SARS-CoV-2 Acute Kidney Injury in patients with COVID-19. Methods: an integrative review, with adoption of PICO strategy and classification of the level of evidence, carried out on April 10, 2020 in the PubMed database, of articles available between December 2019 and April 2020. Results: the sample consisted of six original, five observational and one experimental articles. Observational studies addressed the clinical findings of patients with COVID-19 and association between kidney damage, infection, and morbidity-mortality. Conclusion: the studies addressed the mechanism of intracellular infection of SARS-CoV-2, its cytopathic effects on kidney cells and incidence of acute kidney injury in patients infected with SARS-CoV-2. Acute kidney injury is associated with increased mortality and morbidity in these patients. This review realizes the need for new research that can mention kidney care to patients with COVID-19.

ABSTRACT Objectives: assess the implementation of actions to prevent vertical transmission of HIV. Methods: a retrospective cohort study conducted in two maternity hospitals in the city of Montes Claros, State of Minas Gerais. All women admitted for childbirth diagnosed with HIV and their respective newborns were included from 2014 to 2017. Data were collected from medical records and analyzed descriptively. Results: population consisted of 46 pairs of mothers and newborns. Management was considered inadequate in 30 cases of parturient/postpartum women (65.2%) and 14 cases of newborns (30.4%). The main reasons for inadequate maternal management were lack of pharmacological inhibition of lactation (53.3%) and counseling/consent for HIV testing (43.3%). For newborns, late onsetoffirst dose ofZidovudine (50.0%) and no prescriptionofNevirapine (28.6%). Conclusions: important prevention opportunities were missed, pointing to the need for improved care.

Abstract: BACKGROUND: Candidiasis is the most common opportunistic fungal infection of the oral cavity caused by fungi of the genus Candida and usually associated with immunosuppressed individuals. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the presence of oral candidiasis and identify the presence of Candida spp. in liver transplant recipients and assess the association between the presence of the fungus and sociodemographic variables, dietary habits and environmental exposure. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was performed with 49 patients who had undergone liver transplants at Hospital São Vicente de Paulo in Passo Fundo - RS. Patient information was collected to obtain sociodemographic data, eating habits and environmental exposure. Fungal infections were screened by oral clinical examination and the presence of Candida spp by the collection of oral samples with a sterile swab, seeded in Sabouraud Dextrose Agar, incubated at 25°C and observed at 48 hours. To identify Candida albicans, the germ tube test was performed. RESULTS: In 49 patient samples, 39% had the yeast of the genus Candida isolated and, of these patients, 12% had candidiasis, 66% of atrophic type and 34% pseudomembranous. Eleven yeast species were (58%) Candida non-albicans and eight (42%) Candida albicans. STUDY LIMITATIONS: The present study presents as a limitation the inclusion of patients in different stages of immunosuppression. CONCLUSION: The high incidence of Candida non-albicans in the oral cavity of transplant patients with a long period of transplantation is warning to a more effective control of the health of these individuals, especially those with older age.

Objetivo: Identificar a frequência e a gravidades dos eventos adversos mais comuns relacionados às reações transfusionais imediatas. Método: Análise retrospectiva do registro de eventos adversos, ocorridos em um Hospital Universitário de alta complexidade, com 862 leitos e que foram notificados ao Sistema Nacional de Hemovigilância, no período de maio de 2002 a maio de 2016. O estudo foi precedido de aprovação do Comitê de Ética da instituição, em 26 de outubro de 2016. Resultados: Foram notificadas 1.462 reações transfusionais. As reações mais frequentes foram por concentrado de hemácias, sendo a reação febril não hemolítica e a reação alérgica as mais frequentes e de gravidade considerada leve. Entre os eventos considerados graves, estes dois tipos de reações ocorreram em 13 (62%) dos pacientes. Conclusão: O estudo permitiu uma melhor análise e compreensão das reações transfusionais e dá subsídios para melhoria na qualidade do ciclo do sangue e maior segurança dos pacientes submetidos a terapia transfusional. ============================================== Objectives: To identify the frequency and gravity of the most common Adverse Reactions (ARs) related to acute transfusions reactions. Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional study ARs notified to the National Hemovigilance System from May 2002 to May 2016 was carried out in a Teaching Hospital of high complexity with 862 beds. The study was preceded by approval of the Ethics Committee of the institution, on 26 October 2016. Results: We analyzed 1.462 notification forms reporting transfusion reactions. The profile found was mostly of acute events associated to transfusion of Red Blood Cells, being Febrile Nonhemolytic Transfusion and Allergic Reaction the most frequent ARs; as for the gravity, the ARs were considered as mildAmong the cases considered as serious, these two types of ARs occurred in 13 (62%) of the cases. Conclusions: The study allowed a better evaluation and understanding of transfusion reactions, which allows improvement in the quality of the blood cycle and greater safety of patients undergoing transfusion therapy.

RESUMO Objetivo: analisar o impacto da educação permanente na prevenção e no controle da infecção do trato urinário em pacientes submetidos ao procedimento de cateterismo vesical de demora. Método: estudo quase experimental do tipo antes e depois, com intervenção educacional sobre os cuidados relacionados a inserção, manutenção e retirada do cateter vesical de demora. Aplicação de escala de 20 questões com 124 enfermeiros e técnicos de Enfermagem para medida do conhecimento. Realizou-se análise da mudança do padrão de comportamento do pré-teste para o pós-teste, por meio de escala global, e análise de covariância, nos quais se ajustou a reta de regressão por categoria profissional. Para analisar o conhecimento e as condutas do procedimento de cateterismo vesical de demora, foram utilizados os testes de Levene para igualdade de variâncias, teste t para amostras independentes, testes inferenciais não paramétricos e teste qui-quadrado. Resultados: na análise global do estudo, partindo das 20 questões consideradas, observou-se que, em média, os técnicos de Enfermagem em comparação aos enfermeiros obtiveram ganho de sete pontos do pré-teste para o pós-teste (≅12,00 para ≅19,00), enquanto os enfermeiros obtiveram 4,0 pontos (≅16 para ≅20,00). Conclusão: a intervenção educacional aumentou significativamente o conhecimento dos profissionais de saúde sobre o procedimento de cateterismo vesical de demora e colaborou para a redução da taxa de infecção das infecções de trato urinário na instituição, bem como uma evolução no patamar de conhecimento, principalmente dos técnicos de Enfermagem após as intervenções educativas.

Objective: to evaluate the immediate effects of the orientation of the hospital discharge plan for patients with COPD. Method: prospective and comparative study performed in a private hospital in São Paulo, with patients with COPD. In first step it was used the questionnaire "Educational Plan for COPD patients” to assess patient knowledge about their disease. In second step, educational intervention was carried out and in the third, again the of the questionnaire was used. The comparison between pre and post-test results was done by paired T-test. The project was approved by the research ethics committee. Result: from the 50 patients who participated in study, 68% reported not knowing their disease well before orientation and only 22% after educational intervention. In all sections of questionnaire there was an increase in correct answers after educational intervention. Conclusion: the orientation of the hospital discharge plan was effective resulting in an immediate improvement of knowledge. RESUMO Objetivo: avaliar os efeitos imediatos da orientação do plano de alta hospitalar aos pacientes com DPOC. Método: estudo prospectivo, comparativo, realizado num hospital privado de São Paulo, com pacientes com DPOC. Na primeira etapa foi aplicado questionário “Plano educacional para pacientes com DPOC” para avaliar conhecimento do paciente sobre sua doença. Na segunda etapa foi realizada intervenção educacional e na terceira, reaplicação do questionário. A comparação do resultado do pré e pós-teste foram feitas pelo teste T pareado. Projeto de pesquisa aprovado em comitê de ética, parecer no 003/12. Resultados: dos 50 pacientes participantes do estudo, 68% responderam não conhecer bem sua doença antes da orientação e apenas 22% após intervenção educacional. Todas seções do questionário apresentaram aumento na média de acertos após intervenção educacional. Conclusão: orientação do plano de alta hospitalar mostrou-se efetiva resultando em melhora imediata do conhecimento. Resultados: de los 50 pacientes participantes, 68% dijeron desconocer su enfermedad antes de la orientación, sólo 22% después de la intervención educativa. Todas secciones del cuestionario se produjo aumento en promedio de aciertos después de la intervención. Conclusión: la orientación del plan de alta fué eficaz, resultando mejora inmediata del conocimiento.

ABSTRACT Objective: to present a brief history of Spiritism, the vision of epilepsy by Spiritism, and the potential of spirituality and religiosity care as complementary and coadjutants treatments in epilepsy. Method: this is a brief review about the impact of faith, spirituality, and religiosity, particularly the Spiritism philosophy as complementary treatment to neurological disorders (particularly focusing on epilepsy) and mental health. We conduct a review of published articles (about religion/spirituality and epilepsy) in the Pubmed and SciELO databases. Conclusion: the exercise of spirituality and religiosity can be a positive coping strategy to support the traditional therapy of patients with epilepsy and other neurological disorders. However, it is necessary to demystify myths and beliefs about the epilepsy and improve knowledge about this important health dimension among professionals, patients, and caregivers to explore their full treatment and supportive potential.

Abstract: The Brazilian Nursing Association (Associação Brasileira de Enfermagem in portuguese ABEn), since its creation 91 years ago, has been dedicated to the defense of education in nursing at all levels. Given that it is a scientific-cultural entity, it is also responsible for the transmission of the profession’s ethos, which in modern societies has also been done through formal education. Additionally, the Association participates strongly on the formulation of public policies in education and health, with representation in numerous instances of government decision. We postulate that nursing education should envision much more than the technical-scientific preparation of the professional graduating from our teaching institutions: its purpose must be that of educating political social subjects capable of acting responsibly and transforming reality, especially in reducing the vast inequalities of the society in which we live, like, for example, lack of access to the healthcare system by a good part of the population.(1)

RESUMO Objetivo Descrever a ocorrência das reações transfusionais imediatas recebidas na Gerência de Risco do Hospital São Paulo. Método Estudo transversal retrospectivo, com análises das fichas de notificação de reações transfusionais, no período de maio de 2002 a dezembro de 2016, que foram inseridas no Sistema Nacional de Hemovigilância. Resultados Foram analisadas 1.548 fichas de Reação Transfusional, em sua totalidade reações imediatas, associadas ao Concentrado de Hemácias (72,5%). A mais comum foi a Reação Febril Não Hemolítica Leve, e, entre as graves e moderadas, a Reação Alérgica. Os sinais e sintomas mais notificados foram a hipertermia, a sudorese, os calafrios e as lesões em derme. Não foram observadas diferenças entre sexo e idade, 90,7% das reações ocorreram em pacientes com Fator Rh+. Conclusão O estudo permitiu uma melhor avaliação e compreensão das reações transfusionais, o que viabilizará a qualidade no ciclo do sangue e uma maior segurança dos pacientes submetidos à terapia transfusional.

Objetivos: caracterizar un grupo de ancianos que hacen hemodiálisis en una Unidad Nefrológica, identificar los eventos asociados con la hemodiálisis y las percepciones de incómodo con los efectos de la enfermedad renal. Método: estudio transversal, descriptivo y analítico de enfoque cuantitativo, con 35 ancianos que hacen hemodiálisis en una Unidad Nefrológica del noroeste del Rio Grande do Sul/Brasil que atendieron los criterios de inclusión. Se recogieron los dados través de formulario de dados sociodemográficos y de eventos y del “Kidney Disease and Quality of Live-Short Form (KDQOL-SFTM)”. Los dados fueron analizados mediante estadística descriptivas y test de correlación de Spearman’s. Los principios éticos fueron respetados, proyecto aprobado por Comité de Ética. Resultados: 65,7% son hombres y tienen hasta 70 años, 60% casados, todos tienen hijos y 74,3% no concluirán la educación básica. Las complicaciones mencionadas por ellos fueron debilidad y calambres, pero los ancianos con más de 80 años presentaron mayores porcentajes de estos eventos. La enfermedad renal interfiere en la limitación alimentar, capacidad de trabajar en casa y en la comparecencia personal de los ancianos (0,05). Conclusión: la identificación de eventos que pueden ocurrir y de las interferencias de la enfermedad renal en la vida dos ancianos permite al equipo de atención, principalmente la enfermería, direccionar acciones con objetivo de aclarar dudas, mejorar la autoimagen y la autoestima, ayudar en el enfrentamiento de la enfermedad renal y del tratamiento con hemodiálisis, con el fin de proporcionar bienestar y mejorar la calidad de vida de los ancianos en hemodiálisis.

Objetivo: Caracterizar usuários renais crônicos que hemodializam em uma Unidade Nefrológica de município da região noroeste do Rio Grande do Sul e relacionar atividades físicas e de lazer segundo percepções referentes à avaliação da sua saúde em geral. Metodologia: Pesquisa quantitativa, analítica, descritiva, transversal, com 77 usuários renais crônicos em programa hemodialitico. Dados coletados de abril a julho/2010, após aprovação do Comitê de Ética, Parecer 02780243000-09. Instrumentos: sociodemográficos, atividades físicas, lazer, avaliação da saúde - KDQOL-SFTM. Análise dos dados com estatística descritiva. Resultados: A maioria são homens, casados, 45,5% idosos, baixa escolaridade, 64,9% pratica atividade física, 61% de lazer, 37,7% necessitam ajuda para atividades cotidianas. No cruzamento das variáveis ‘lazer’ com ‘avaliação da saúde’, dos 61,0% que as realizam, 33,8% avalia saúde como “boa” e 24,7% “regular”. Conclusão: A realização de atividade física e/ou lazer contribui para qualidade de vida, subsídio para qualificação da assistência, prevenção e promoção da saúde.

AbstractOBJECTIVEIdentify association between sociodemographic, clinical and triage categories with protocol outcomes developed at Hospital São Paulo (HSP).METHODSRetrospective cohort study conducted with patients older than 18 years submitted to the triage protocol in August 2012. Logistic regression was used to associate the risk categories to outcomes (p-value ≤0,05).RESULTSMen with older age and those treated in clinical specialties had higher rates of hospitalization and death. Patients in the high-priority group had hospitalization and mortality rates five and 10.6 times, respectively (p < 0.0001).CONCLUSIONThe high-priority group experienced higher hospitalization and mortality rates. The protocol was able to detect patients with more urgent conditions and to identify risk factors for hospitalization and death.

Objetivo: Identificar las complicaciones clínicas y evaluar la percepción de salud general de los pacientes renales crónicos en hemodiálisis. Metodología: Estudio transversal, con enfoque cuantitativo-descriptivo, realizado en 77 pacientes en hemodiálisis en una Unidad Nefrológica del noroeste de Rio Grande do Sul. La recolección de datos se realizó durante los meses de mayo, junio y julio de 2010 con un formulario de características sociodemográficas/clínicas, también denominado Kidney Disease and Quality of Live-Short Form (kdqol-sftm). Los datos se analizaron mediante estadística descriptiva. El proyecto de investigación fue aprobado por el Comité de Ética en el Consejo nº 02780243000-09. Resultados: La mayoría de los pacientes eran varones (70,1%), adultos mayores (45,4%), casados (59,7%). Los eventos que se produjeron con mayor frecuencia durante la hemodiálisis fueron: debilidad, calambres e hipotensión. En cuanto a la evaluación de la salud general en comparación con la de hace un año, el 39% lo calificó como mucho mejor ahora y el 33,8% como un poco mejor ahora. Conclusiones: A pesar de las complicaciones, actualmente los pacientes valoran mejor su salud.

RESUMOObjetivo:avaliar a efetividade de um protocolo de orientação de enfermagem para redução da ansiedade de pacientes com síndrome coronária aguda, submetidos ao banho no leito e a relação dos sinais vitais com a Ansiedade-Estado.Método:ensaio clínico randomizado. A amostra foi constituída por 120 pacientes. O grupo intervenção recebeu um protocolo de orientação de enfermagem sobre o banho no leito e o grupo controle as informações rotineiras da unidade. A ansiedade foi avaliada por meio do Inventário de Ansiedade-Estado em três momentos: imediatamente após informar ao paciente sobre a necessidade do banho no leito, imediatamente após as intervenções e imediatamente após o banho.Resultados:o grupo intervenção teve uma redução significativamente maior da ansiedade quando comparado ao grupo controle (p

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effectiveness of enteral nutritional therapy (ENT) in the healing process of pressure ulcers (PU) in adults and the elderly. METHOD A systematic review whose studies were identified through the databases of Cochrane, MEDLINE/PubMed, SciELO, LILACS, EMBASE, CINAHL, Web of Science, and manual searches. It included randomized clinical trials (RCTs) without delimiting the period or language of publication, which addressed adults and elderly patients with pressure ulcers in a comparative treatment of enteral nutritional therapy and placebo or between enteral nutritional therapy with different compositions and dosages. RESULTS We included ten studies that considered different interventions. It resulted in more pressure ulcers healed in the groups that received the intervention. The included studies were heterogeneous with regard to patients, the type of intervention, the sample and the follow-up period, all of which made meta-analysis impossible. CONCLUSION Although the enteral nutritional therapy demonstrates a promotion of pressure ulcer healing, sufficient evidence to confirm the hypothesis was not found.

RESUMO Objetivo Analisar os indicadores bibliométricos dos periódicos nacionais e internacionais na área de Enfermagem, sob a ótica das bases indexadoras. Método Coorte histórica referente ao período de 2014 a 2016. Foram selecionados os periódicos nacionais de enfermagem indexados na base SciELO e classificados no Qualis A1, A2 e B1, e periódicos internacionais de enfermagem com fator de impacto acima de 1.0 e abaixo de 1.8, indexados nas Bases Web of Science e Scopus. Foram excluídos os periódicos de especialidades da enfermagem. Os indicadores bibliométricos foram coletados das bases de dados indexadoras e importados no Ms Excel, para análise e tabulação. Resultados Os indicadores bibliométricos das diversas bases indexadoras são divergentes e não podem ser comparados. Menor cobertura de títulos e período mais curto para o cálculo ampliam as distorções entre os indicadores das revistas nacionais e internacionais. Conclusão Os critérios para internacionalização impostos aos periódicos nacionais não contribuem para obtenção ou aumento do fator de impacto. Cobertura mais ampla de títulos indexados e um período maior no cálculo de citações representam diferença significativa nos resultados. O índice H e o CiteScore parecem ser melhores indicadores do impacto da pesquisa de enfermagem nacional.

Método: estudo com abordagem quantitativa, transversal, realizado entre março a outubro de 2014, na unidade de oncologia de um hospital filantrópico, localizado no sul do estado da Bahia. A amostra foi de 157 pacientes, os dados foram analisados por estatística descritiva. Resultados: destacaram-se sete diagnósticos pela North American Nursing Diagnosis Association, 12 resultados (Nursing Outcomes Classification) e 12 intervenções de enfermagem (Nursing Intervention Classification). Considerou-se principais os títulos dos diagnósticos, resultados e intervenções/atividades formulados para mais de 78(50,0%) dos participantes do estudo. Conclusão: permitiu identificar e selecionar diagnósticos, intervenções e resultados de enfermagem para aplicação na prática clínica, com vistas a subsidiar o processo de cuidado e o conhecimento das taxonomias de enfermagem. The main diagnoses, results and interventions/activities were considered to be those formulated for more than 78 (50.0%) of the study participants. Conclusion: it was possible to identify and select nursing diagnoses, interventions and results for application in clinical practice, with a view to informing the care process and knowledge of nursing taxonomies.
