Charcoal is used all over the world. Although its contribution to household income has made it popular in most rural areas, its production aggravates forest cover depletion and degradation. In Oyo State, Nigeria, Charcoal production has continued despite government efforts to reduce or eradicate charcoal production in the state. This study therefore attempted to assess the reasons for this and what should be done to ameliorate it. Those who engage in full-time and part-time charcoal production were investigated. Data were obtained from 350 respondents with the aid of a well-structured questionnaire using a multistage sampling technique, and 304 copies of the questionnaire were analyzed using descriptive statistics and a Logit regression model. The results revealed that the mean age of charcoal producers was 48.86 ±0.06 years and that they were predominantly (97.7%) males. A large proportion of the respondents (76%) had obtained either a West African School Certificate or a Senior Secondary Certificate, while the mean experience in charcoal production was 15.33 ±0.30 years and most (63.8%) of the individuals involved in the industry were migrants. The majority (71.7%) of them lived in mud houses and had little or no access to basic amenities such as good roads, electricity or pipe-borne water. The logit results indicate that age and owning a private plantation encourage continuous charcoal production (at the 5% significance level) on a full-time basis, thereby encouraging constant production. However, being an indigene of the state, having other income sources and educational attainment at tertiary level reduced the probability of being a full-time charcoal producer, hence reducing charcoal production. To stem continuing forest resource depletion through charcoal production, it is imperative that factors such as the provision of basic amenities, the promotion of alternative sources of income, and access to tertiary education coupled with the availability of short-term loans with a grace period for loan repayment as well as participation in tree planting by charcoal producers be prioritized by policy makers and other stakeholders in the industry. The decision to start a business can be influenced by a wide range of factors. Several studies show the characteristics of full-time and part-time entrepreneurship, but few show the actual comparison of the two concepts. The aim of this research is to analyze the differences between the two forms of entrepreneurship from two perspectives: the current entrepreneurs' perspective and the students' perspective, in order to help people decide which form of entrepreneurship is the best. Based on qualitative and quantitative research, the results showed that the most important factors that influence the final decision to start a business are work experience, education, financial factor, work and time flexibility, and lifestyle. The SPSS results and t-tests on the students' character traits show that there are no significant differences among four of them, except for the trait "autonomy".

LEGAL documents , *SEMI-structured interviews , *DATA analysis - Abstract
This article presents an analysis of the perception of school and educational managers on the implementation of the Single Shift policy in Rio de Janeiro. Based on semi-structured interviews with these actors, this article presents their view of the processes for its implementation, the concepts of education present in the policy and its objectives. This qualitative study is based on the results of the research carried out at Unirio from 2019 to 2021. From the analysis of the interviews and the observation of legal documents on the implementation of the Single Shift, based on the perspective of Theme (FONTOURA, 2011) for data analysis, we perceive in this policy a different outline from the previous ones, leaving of the more focal and compensatory vision, and bringing a universalist look. Despite mentioning some points that need attention, the policy is well regarded by the actors involved and has potential expansion expectations for the entire Network. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article presents an analysis of the initial path of the interdisciplinarity factor in the curriculum of a full-time high school, located on the island of Mosqueiro, district of Belém/PA, in the period between 2020 and 2021. From a methodological point of view, this study has a qualitative approach and was carried out in two distinct and complementary stages, namely: in the first, the bias of the bibliographic research follows, and in the second stage, the documental research as indicated by Gil (2017). Still concerning the second moment of the research, there was a case study of the specific reports of the school-camp, as well as of the Guidance Notebooks made available by the Secretary of State for Education of Pará, especially those aimed at Integral High School. The results point to connections between the activities developed by the teachers working in the school unit, which is the object of this investigation, which show the perspective of an interdisciplinary work. The analysis indicates the possibility of adapting/altering the school's curriculum, which is treading a path in the proposal of an integral, full-time education, making use of interdisciplinarity in its curriculum. EDUCATION policy , *CLASSROOM activities , *YOUNG adults , *HIGH schools , *SCHOOL rules & regulations - Abstract
The educational policies aimed at secondary education have incorporated fulltime education as a way of aligning it with contemporary trends. Therefore, the configuration of this teaching stage is constituted as an ideological dispute for dichotomous political agendas: meeting the productive demand and omnilateral training of young people. In this context, the State of Mato Grosso implemented its full-time High School project with the "Full Schools", bringing organizational, methodological and curricular singularities. In this work, we sought to analyze its configurations in the educational policy dimension and in the materialized pedagogical project. Methodologically, a qualitative research was carried out, through a case study, in a school of this nature in Cuiabá. The results revealed a managerial perspective, which is based on the defense of a nebulous role in the face of the notion of self-entrepreneurship and the student's self-responsibility for his path, in an erasure of the extra-school conditions involved. EDUCATIONAL planning , *REALITY television programs , *GRADUATE education , *WORK structure , *WORKING hours - Abstract
This study is the result of a master's thesis carried out in the Graduate Program in Management and Curriculum of the Basic School at the Federal University of Pará. It analyzed conceptually the policies of Full Time and Extended Day in the organization of pedagogical work. Methodologically, this is a qualitative approach, in which we used bibliographic research, supported by the contributions of Arroyo (2012), Cavaliere (2009), Moll (2012), among others. The results revealed that these experiences are presented discontinuously and with interruptions in the administrative management. The reflections on the organization of the pedagogical work in the extended day bring concern about the planning of educational actions: despite the legal advances, the reality shows difficulties in the implementation of full-time schools due to the need for investments that have not yet been made by the federated entities. We conclude that there is an urgent need for pedagogical planning in full-time schools in order for them to meet the new significant needs of the school community. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present multiyear study sheds light on the effects of faculty status on student evaluations of teaching (SETs). By comparing actual SETs of full- versus part-time marketing faculty, this study fills a void in the marketing education literature. Collecting first-hand institutionally administered SETs (N = 6,123) over a seven-year period, the extended data collection phase includes 21 semesters and 240 undergraduate courses. Study findings reveal that students perceive full-time faculty as more knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and better prepared for class than part-time faculty. Full-timers are also better able to communicate the subject matter and develop assignments focused on student learning than part-timers. In contrast, students perceive part-time faculty as better able to relate the course material to the real world, develop exam questions that reflect lectures and assignments, and return graded material more quickly than full-time faculty. Compared with part-time faculty, students perceive full-time faculty as being more rigorous and tougher in terms of grading. Given the differences regarding instructor knowledge, pedagogical skill, rigor, and grading, the discussion of the findings rests on how faculty status affects the overall quality of higher education. - Abstract
To a certain extent, theranostic nanoplatforms promote tumor treatment efficiency. However, timely monitoring of the critical stages and signal sustainability of the entire process is challenging. In this study, multi-chambered core/shell magnetic nanoparticles (MC-MNPs) as drug and imaging agent multi-loaded nanocarriers with a synergistic release function are reported. Supraparticles with stable chambers are formed by the supercooling self-assembly of several core/shell magnetic nanoparticles composed of amphiphilic copolymers as the core and hydrophilic magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles as the shell. Desalinized doxorubicin and coumarin 6 are stored in different cavities of nanocarriers, and chitosan is used as an outer encapsulation layer. Based on their construction properties, MC-MNPs can exhibit gradient-degraded and steady-released controllability in the tumor environment. Furthermore, real-time accumulation situations and full-time diagnostic signals of nanocarriers are thoroughly demonstrated using fluorescence imaging and T
2 -weighted magnetic resonance imaging before and after magnetic hyperthermia in targeted tumors under an alternating magnetic field. Thus, MC-MNPs as theranostic nanocarriers exhibit great potential for the timely monitoring and full-time guidance of tumor treatment., (© 2024 Wiley‐VCH GmbH.)- Published

Based on the results of the theoretical analysis, problems such as the aging population of teachers, the lack of attractiveness of the teaching profession and the shortage of teachers in certain subjects have been identified in the education system, as well as in some geographical areas. The recent reform of the teacher’s payment system in Lithuania was started in 2018, so the problem analysed in the article is relatively new, which leads to a lack of research, as apart from some statistics, analysts’ insights and forecasts, scientific research on this topic is insufficient. In this study, an independently pooled cross-sections model is used to assess the factors of teachers ’salaries. The results of the research show that after the introduction of the full- time payment system, the salaries of teachers in Radviliškis district did not increase. This was due to the reduction in the size of the workload following the introduction of the full- time payment system.

Background: A better understanding of how occupational indicators influence physical activity levels will aid the design of workplace interventions. Methods: Cross-sectional data were collected from 1194 participants through a telephone interview in Queensland, Australia. The IPAQ-long was used to measure physical activity. Multiple logistic regression was applied to examine associations. Results: Of participants, 77.9% were employed full-time, 32.3% had professional jobs, 35.7% were engaged in shift work, 39.5% had physically-demanding jobs, and 66.1% had high physical activity levels. Participants with a physically-demanding job were less likely to have low total (OR = 0.25, 95% CI = 0.17 to 0.38) and occupational (OR = 0.17, 95% CI = 0.12 to 0.25) physical activity. Technical and trade workers were less likely to report low total physical activity (OR = 0.44, 95% CI = 0.20 to 0.97) compared with white-collar workers. Part-time (OR = 1.74,95% CI = 1.15 to 2.64) and shift workers (OR = 1.86, 95% CI = 1.21 to 2.88) were more likely to report low leisure-time activity. Conclusions: Overall, the impact of different occupational indicators on physical activity was not strong. As expected, the greatest proportion of total physical activity was derived from occupational physical activity. No evidence was found for compensation effects whereby physically-demanding occupations lead to less leisure-time physical activity or vice versa. This study demonstrates that workplaces are important settings to intervene, and that there is scope to increase leisure-time physical activity irrespective of occupational background. GIG economy , *SOCIAL context , *ECONOMIC impact , *SOCIAL impact , *CONTINGENT employment , *RURAL geography - Abstract
In the current economic and social context, dominated by the influences of the rapid development of technology and communications, the labour market is undergoing structural changes, job demand and supply are reshaping, labour arrangements are resizing in form and volume. Another factor that significantly affects the structure and dynamics of the labour market is the current health crisis. The negative impact on the various economic sectors affected by the crisis implicitly entails changes in the balance between job demand and supply, as well as the reassessment and decision to choose effective work arrangements. GIG economy, representing all atypical forms of work, presents an increasingly complicated and difficult to predict dynamics, as a result of the economic and social impact of current factors of influence. The purpose of the article is to analyze and predict the dynamics of different forms of work in the Romanian rural areas, starting with the forms of full time, permanent contracts to contingent forms of work. The analysis method used in this paper is the quantitative one. From the analysis performed, it can be deduced observations and results that define the general framework of all forms of work in Romanian rural environment and the dynamic tendencies of the different forms of work commitment during the analyzed period. Full time contracts, regardless of how they are registered, as a determined or indefinite period, have the largest share of the total number registered at national level in rural areas. On the other side, part-time contracts register different dynamic trends, in the sense that the permanent ones have an ascending trend, and the contingent forms register a sudden collapse in the period 2017-2018, by approximately 400% compared to previous years. Part time permanent jobs increase with 67.43% in 2020 compared to 2010. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The economic recession that began in California in 2008 did not affect all counties equally. Using data from several years of the California Health Interview Survey, this policy brief examines the differences between 2007 and 2009 for the populations who were uninsured "for all or part of the prior year." During this time period, counties with high unemployment and lower household income saw the highest growth in the uninsured population, due to a large drop in job-based coverage and only a small increase in public coverage. Compared to the uninsured population in California in 2007, Californians who were uninsured for all or part of 2009 were older, more likely to be U.S.-born citizens, had lower household incomes, and were more likely to be unemployed and looking for work.

The article is based on the defense of full-time integral education in early childhood education and aims to contribute to broadening the debate in this field by taking as object the playing of the 05 years old children in a municipal school, in which they remain 08 hours daily. As a guiding question, one inquires about the configurations of these children's playing in the Full Time School (ETI). The theoretical framework establishes a dialogue with authors of the Sociology of Childhood who recognize the centrality of the playing as constitutive of children's cultures, and authors of the field of Geography that discuss territory and territoriality. Twenty-two children participated in the study and, in order to capture the settings of the play, the data used were collected from daily observation of the school, analysis of documents and conversation groups with children. The analysis highlights the tensions between children's cultures and territorial borders, which seek to conform the playing of children in the ETI. The results indicate the school form present in the settings of the playing and the escapes, propitiated by the practices of the playing in the territory/territoriality imbrication. The conclusions allow us to reflect on the need for full-time recognition that playing is part of the culture of children, has a centrality in childhood, and therefore is a right of the children. BACKGROUND: Firefighters partake in and are exposed to a range of potentially traumatic events throughout their careers and the impact of such critical events could last a life time. Therefore, capturing such lifetime exposures is necessary for supporting firefighter health. OBJECTIVE: To estimate the prevalence of critical incidents in firefighters across Canada and determine whether the number of critical events varied based on age, gender, years of service; and to integrate our prevalence estimates using meta-analysis with previous studies to provide a pooled estimate. METHODS: We recruited 464 firefighters. Firefighters were asked to complete a self-report Critical Incident Inventory (CII) survey that included questions on exposure to critical events throughout their firefighting careers. Individual CII items were summarized as percentages, number of exposures, the total number and percentages of exposures to each of the six CII sub-scales. We also performed a multivariate enter regression analysis with the CII total score as dependant variable, and age, gender, years of service as independent variables, to estimate if the number of critical incidents among firefighters varied based on age, gender and years of service. RESULTS: Among the 390 full-time firefighters, 376 (96.4%) indicated exposure to some type of critical incident. More specifically, 351 (90%) reported a "respond to incident involving one or two deaths", and 314 (81%) reported a "respond to incident involving multiple serious injuries". Age, gender and years of service accounted for only 37.4% of the variance in the number of critical incidents among firefighters. In addition, our pooled estimate results of previous similar studies indicated an overall prevalence estimate of critical incident exposures was 93.40% (4 studies, 1725 of 1877 firefighters, 95% CI: 82.26 –99.30). CONCLUSIONS: Nearly all (96.4%) firefighters were exposed to some form of critical event over the span of their entire firefighting careers. Age, gender and years of service accounted for one-third of the variance in the number of critical incident exposures among firefighters. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BACKGROUND: Musculoskeletal symptoms (MSSs) remain the most frequently reported type of injuries sustained during fire-ground operations in firefighters. However, there is a paucity of reports concerning the prevalence estimates of MSSs among female firefighters and different fire services across Canada. OBJECTIVES: To assess the point prevalence of self-reported MSSs, stratified by age and sex in a cohort of active duty firefighters from across Canada, and to determine whether age, sex or length of service can be used to predict the likelihood of the number of MSSs sustained. METHODS: We recruited 390 firefighters (272 males, 118 females). To identify the prevalence of self-reported rates of MSSs, firefighters were asked to complete a standardized 11-item questionnaire that asked, "Please indicate whether you have experienced pain in any body region within the last week", with response options that included "Yes", "No", and "Head", "Neck", "Shoulder", "Arm/Elbow/Hand", "Back", "Stomach/Abdomen", "Upper Thigh", "Knee", "Lower Leg", "Foot", "Other, please specify". RESULTS: Among the 390 full-time firefighters, 212 (54%) indicated to have experienced some type of MSSs within the last week. The most prevalent region-specific MSSs included, 123 (32%) in the back region, 92 (24%) in the shoulder region, 74 (19%) in the neck region and 70 (18%) in the knee region. In addition, women indicated a 1.6 times greater likelihood of sustaining ≥2 MSSs when controlling for individual differences in age and years of service. CONCLUSIONS: The point prevalence of MSSs in a cohort of full-time firefighters was 54% (55% males; 53% females). Women experienced a 1.4–1.6 times greater likelihood of sustaining MSSs when controlling for individual differences in age and years of service. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

GENDER wage gap ,PART-time employment ,FULL-time employment ,JOB descriptions ,WOMEN'S employment - Abstract
Using hourly and weekly wages from the Canadian Labour Force Survey from 2000 until 2018, workers were separated into full-time and part-time and the following striking observation was documented. The overall gender wage gap is larger than either the full-time pay gap or the part-time pay gap, even after controlling for detailed personal and job characteristics. This result is a consequence of two findings: (i) part-time wages are lower than full-time wages, and (ii) the majority of part-time workers are women. In aggregation, this brings down the average female wage, leading to a larger aggregate gender wage gap. This was further linked to a differential selection by gender into full-time and part-time work, with women of higher earnings potential being overrepresented in the pool of part-time workers, resulting in no gender pay gap in the part-time worker category. Policies targeted at encouraging full-time employment for women should therefore reduce the gender wage gap. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: To compare full-time occlusion (FTO) and part-time occlusion (PTO) therapy in the treatment of amblyopia, with the secondary aim of evaluating the minimum number of hours of part-time patching required for maximal effect from occlusion. Methods: A literature search was performed in PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct, Ovid, Web of Science and Cochrane library. Methodological quality of the literature was evaluated according to the Oxford Center for Evidence Based Medicine and modified Newcastle-Ottawa scale. Statistical analyses were performed using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (version 2, Biostat Inc., USA). Results: The present meta-analysis included six studies [three randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and three non-RCTs]. Pooled standardized difference in the mean changes in the visual acuity was 0.337 [lower and upper limits: −0.009, 0.683] higher in the FTO as compared to the PTO group; however, this difference was not statistically significant (P = 0.056, Cochrane Q value = 20.4 (P = 0.001), I2 = 75.49%). Egger's regression intercept was 5.46 (P = 0.04). The pooled standardized difference in means of visual acuity changes was 1.097 [lower and upper limits: 0.68, 1.513] higher in the FTO arm (P

Background and Purpose Women's representation in medicine has increased over time yet the proportion of women practicing neurointervention remains low. We conducted an anonymous online survey through which we could explore the gender gap in neurointervention, identify potential issues, difficulties, or obstacles women might face, and evaluate if men encounter similar issues. Methods An online questionnaire was designed in SurveyMonkey®. Invitation to participate was emailed through national and international neurointerventional societies as well as directly through private mailing lists to men and women working in neurointervention. Responses were collected from 10 May 2019 to 10 September 2019. Results There were 295 complete responses, 173 (59%) male and 122 (41%) female. Most respondents (83%) fell within age categories 35–60 years, with representation from 40 countries across five continents. In all 95% were working full time, 73% had worked as a neurointerventionalist for >6 years, 77% worked in University-affiliated teaching institutions. Almost half of the respondents indicated no female neurointerventionalist worked in their center. Female respondents were younger and age-adjusted analysis was undertaken. Significantly fewer females than males were married and had children. Significantly fewer females held supervisory roles, held academic titles, and significantly less had a mentor. Females were less satisfied in their careers. More females felt they receive less recognition than colleagues of the opposite sex. Males had a greater proportion of work time dedicated to neurointervention. Similar proportions of both genders experienced bullying in work (40%–47%); however, sexual harassment was more common for females. There were no differences between genders in how they dealt with complications or their effects on mental well-being. Conclusion There are many potential reasons why women are underrepresented in neurointervention, however, the literature suggests this is not unique to our specialty. Multiple long-term strategies will be necessary to address these issues, some of which are discussed in the article.

The present study was an attempt to discover the effects of explicit written vs. explicit oral corrective feedback on Omani part-time vs. full-time College students' accurate use and retention of the passive voice. The participants consisted of the students of six intact classes, i. e. three part-time and three fulltime, who took an Oxford Quick Placement Test (OQPT) as a general proficiency test. Following the proficiency test, the participants took three similar, but not identical, tests on the target structure as pretest, posttest and delayed posttest. In response to the errors made in the pretest, the experimental groups received explicit written and explicit oral corrective feedback in their treatment phase whereas the control groups did not receive such explicit written or explicit oral feedback. The accuracy of the use and retention of the passive voice was measured by a posttest and a delayed posttest. The results indicated a significant difference between the pretest performance of the experimental groups and their performance in the posttest and the delayed posttest. Similarly, the results showed a significant difference between the performance of the experimental groups and that of the control groups in the sense that the experimental groups outperformed the control groups. In addition, there was a significant difference between the performance of the part-time students and that of the full-time students in that the part-time students outperformed the full-time students. Finally, there was no significant difference between the experimental groups' performance on the posttest and their performance on the delayed posttest. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Despite the growing importance of community health workers (CHWs) in public health, it has been difficult to characterize the roles and scope of services for this workforce in part because of the variability in the employment status of CHWs, ranging from full-time, part-time, to volunteer. Based on analysis of survey data from a statewide assessment of the CHW workforce in Nebraska (n = 142) conducted between 2019 and 2020, the proportions of CHWs who worked full-time, part-time, or volunteer were respectively 64%, 12%, and 21%. Over three quarters (76.7%) of volunteer CHWs were primarily working with Hispanic communities, as compared to less than 30% among full-time and part-time CHWs. About 80% of volunteer CHWs received training before becoming a CHW, substantially higher than the corresponding proportions among full-time (46.2%) and part-time CHWs (52.9%). In terms of tasks performed, the proportion of volunteer CHWs who provided health screenings (70%) were much higher than full or part-time CHWs (41.8% and 11.8% respectively, p < 0.001); whereas the latter two groups were significantly more likely than volunteer CHWs to provide other tasks such as coordinating care, health coaching, social support, transportation, interpretation, data collection, advocacy, and cultural awareness. Volunteer CHWs may hold potential for serving non-Hispanic communities. Future development of the CHW workforce can benefit from understanding and leveraging the significant differences in roles and scope of services among CHWs with various employment statuses. s Background Patient-facing health care workers (HCW) experience higher rates of COVID-19 infection, particularly at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, rates of COVID-19 among front-line home health and hospice clinicians are relatively unknown. Methods Visit data from a home health care and hospice agency in New Jersey early in the pandemic was analyzed to examine COVID-19 infection rates separately for clinicians exposed to COVID-19-contagious patients, and those without exposure to known COVID-19 contagious patients. Results Between March 5 and May 31, 2020, among home health clinicians providing in-person care, clinicians treating at least one COVID-19 contagious patient had a case rate of 0.8% compared to 15.7% for clinicians with no exposure to known COVID-19 contagious patients. Among hospice clinicians providing in-person care, those who treated at least one COVID-19 contagious patient had a case rate of 6.5%, compared to 12.9% for clinicians with no known exposure to COVID-19 contagious patients. Non-White clinicians had a higher COVID-19 case rate than White clinicians (10.9% vs 6.2%) Discussion Lower rates of COVID-19 infection among clinicians providing care to COVID-19-contagious patients may result from greater attentiveness to infection control protocols and greater precautions in clinicians’ personal lives. Greater exposure to COVID-19-contagious patients prior to patient diagnosis (“unknown exposures”) may explain differences in infection rates between home health and hospice clinicians with workplace exposures. Conclusion Clinicians providing in-person care to COVID-19-contagious patients experience lower rates of COVID-19 infection than clinicians providing face-to-face care with no known exposure to COVID-19 contagious patients. Our findings suggest there was a low incidence of potential workplace infections

Abstract This article refers to research from a master’s thesis in which we analyze the bodily practices developed in full-time education of two public schools, in a non-salvationist perspective, stressing their contributions and mismatches in the lives of students. The expression “to form better people?” questions the reductionist and salvationist conception sometimes found in social programs that use bodily practices, presenting them as a solution to students from the lower classes. We understand in this study that this perspective is changed by the sense of social right and access to different bodily practices as elements of human formation. Full-time education, however, also has limits that sometimes distance it from its perspectives, such as the naturalization of gender issues, curricular fragmentation and different working conditions between teachers and workshop workers.

This study examines whether working long hours alters the motherhood earnings penalty in the context of the United States. The author uses data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth (1979–2014) to model the annual earnings penalty mothers incur per child in the United States. The results support that working long hours (50+ hours per week) reduces the negative effect of motherhood on earnings for white women. Once we control for human capital and labour supply, however, there is no difference in the effect of children on earnings between full-time workers and overworkers. For Black full-time workers and overworkers, having an additional child has little effect on earnings. The findings suggest that although overwork appears to attenuate the earnings penalty for white mothers, white mothers who work long hours exhibit a smaller penalty because they already have high levels of human capital and supply a great amount of labour.

This multiple case study explores how instructors conceptualize and employ scaffolding in online courses. Participants included full time faculty (n = 4) who have designed and taught at least one online course within the past 12 months. Data sources included pre-interview surveys, semi-structured interviews, and online course observations. Data were analyzed by employing a general analytical strategy for developing a case description (Yin, 2018). The results showed that (a) instructors define scaffolding as a support to help students achieve course outcomes and (b) instructors implement different types of scaffolding (i.e., conceptual, metacognitive, procedural, strategic, and motivational) in hard and soft scaffolding forms. The results also showed that instructors' conceptualization and implementation of scaffolding differed based on their discipline and teaching philosophy, and the unique features of online courses. Implications for practice and research are discussed.

Although distinctions between full-time and part-time work are vital for understanding inequalities at work and home, consensus and critical reflection are lacking in how employment status should be defined. Full-time and part-time work are often represented as a binary split between those working under or over a specific number of hours. However, this paper, using exploratory mixed methods, evidences problems with assumptions based on working-hour thresholds and highlights the importance of workplace culture and household contexts. Using the UK Labour Force Survey we reveal ambiguities in the reporting of employment status for 12% of workers when comparing definitions based on number of working days, working hours and self-assessment. Ambiguities are particularly prevalent among working mothers with almost a third, who would be regarded as working full-time using hour-based measures, classified as ambiguous according to the measures used here. In-depth interviews with parents who self-classify as part-time workers, despite working over 35 hours a week, reveal mechanisms behind ambiguity within this group linked to organisational norms, previous working hours and divisions of household labour. The paper therefore argues workplace and household contexts are crucial to understanding employment status and recommends this should be taken into account in new multidimensional measures.

The present study assessed factors associated with maternal preferences for their children’s educational format (i.e., completely in-person, completely online/remote, or hybrid of in-person and online/remote) for return to school during the COVID-19 pandemic and whether these associations differed between full-time employed mothers and mothers who were not employed. Participants were 911 mothers of school-aged children from the United States (full-time employed, n = 650; not employed, n = 261). Recruitment took place online via social media during Summer 2020. Questionnaires on school modality preference, maternal work status, and demographic characteristics were filled out online through Qualtrics. Compared to mothers who were not employed, full-time employed mothers were more likely to endorse a preference for a hybrid in-person and online/remote educational format for their children and less likely to endorse a preference for a completely online/remote educational format for their children. The factor most strongly associated with maternal preferences for their children’s educational format for return to school in both groups of mothers was being worried about my child getting COVID-19 and their health being severely impacted (rs’s ranged from −56 to −58; p < .01). Regardless of maternal employment status, this factor continued to have the strongest association with a maternal preference for a completely online educational format in the polynomial regression analysis after controlling for relevant demographic variables (Odds Ratios ranged from 3.63 to 37.64; p < .01). These findings highlight that concerns about child health during the COVID-19 pandemic influence maternal preferences for their children’s educational format, regardless of maternal employment status.

Teachers in schools, tutors in colleges, and lecturers in universities are all required to have specific teaching qualifications. As part of the qualification, it is normal to study tried and tested pedological theories. Some examples are Bloom’s Taxonomy, Constructivism, and Experiential Learning. This paper identifies a gap in the information and knowledge required of student design engineers studying on a full-time course, when compared to part-time students. To redress this gap, it is suggested that no new theories are required but just a new method of applying an old theory, the application of Bloom’s Taxonomy in reverse alongside reverse engineering. An example of applying this method to a class of design engineers in their final year of a BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering is provided.
