Abstract Objectives The present study aimed to evaluate the measurement invariance of a general measure of the perception of governmental responses to COVID-|19 (COVID-SCORE-10) in the general population of 13 Latin American countries. Methods A total of 5780 individuals from 13 Latin American and Caribbean countries selected by non-probabilistic snowball sampling participated. A confirmatory factor analysis was performed and the alignment method was used to evaluate invariance. Additionally, a graded response model was used for the assessment of item characteristics. Results The results indicate that there is approximate measurement invariance of the COVID-SCORE-10 among the participating countries. Furthermore, IRT results suggest that the COVID-SCORE-10 measures with good psychometric ability a broad spectrum of the construct assessed, especially around average levels. Comparison of COVID-SCORE-10 scores indicated that participants from Cuba, Uruguay and El Salvador had the most positive perceptions of government actions to address the pandemic. Thus, the underlying construct of perception of government actions was equivalent in all countries. Conclusion The results show the importance of initially establishing the fundamental measurement properties and MI before inferring the cross-cultural universality of the construct to be measured.

IntroductionIn Peru, the defense of a university thesis allow to obtain a professional degree and demonstrate the research skills of the aspirant.ObjectivesTo characterize the undergraduate dental theses defended in Peruvian universities and those published in scientific journals, as well as to identify the factors associated with their publication.MethodsA cross-sectional, analytical and observational study was conducted using a search strategy in Google Scholar. We ascertained whether the theses defended between 2015-2018 had been published in scientific journals. Prevalence ratios (aPR), 95% confidence intervals (CI 95%) and p-values were obtained using generalized linear models.ResultsMost of the theses were defended in private universities (65.9%), located in the provinces (76.7%), in 2017 (32.1%). The most studied line of research was Dental Education (n = 418; 18.4%). Of the total number of defended theses (n = 2,267), only 130 (5.7%) were published, in a total of 41 scientific journals, of which 22 are specialized in the dental field. The 130 articles received 443 citations, with an average of 3.4 citations per document. The Universidad Católica Santa María was the institution that defended the most theses (n = 372); however, the Universidad Científica del Sur presented the highest percentage of published theses (36.4%). Abstract Background There is an urgent need to assess changes in well-being on a multinational scale during the COVID-19 pandemic, thus culturally valid scales must be available. Methods With this in mind, this study examined the invariance of the WHO well-being index (WHO-5) among a sample of 5183 people from 12 Latin Americans countries (Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay). Results The results of the present study indicate that the WHO-5 is strictly invariant across samples from different Latin American countries. Furthermore, the results of the IRT analysis indicate that all items of the WHO-5 were highly discriminative and that the difficulty required to respond to each of the five items is ascending. Additionally, the results indicated the presence of moderate and small size differences in subjective well-being among most countries. Conclusion The WHO-5 is useful for assessing subjective well-being in 12 Latin American countries during the COVID-19 pandemic, since the differences between scores can be attributed to differences in well-being and not in other characteristics of the scale.

Introduction: The consumption of alcoholic beverages reduces the body's ability to deal with dangerous situations and exposes people to trauma. Objective: To determine the association between the consumption of alcoholic beverages and the characteristics of maxillofacial fractures treated at a Cuban university hospital in the context of COVID-19. Material and Methods: An observational, analytical, and cross-sectional study was carried out in the Maxillofacial Surgery unit at the “Carlos Manuel de Céspedes” General University Hospital during the year 2020. Prevalence ratios, 95% confidence intervals and p-values were obtained using generalized linear models. Results: In 58.23% of the cases, fractures were related to the consumption of alcoholic beverages. The fundamental etiology was interpersonal violence (47.75%), regardless of the consumption of alcoholic beverages. There was a prevalence of patients with nasal fractures (n=98; 55.06%), among which, 35.71% had consumed alcoholic beverages at the time of the trauma. IntroductionConcern about contracting COVID-19 has had repercussions on university students. The aim of this study was to determine its effect on depression, anxiety, and satisfaction with studies.MethodsUsing an explanatory cross-sectional design, 1,260 medical, nursing, and dentistry students from both public and private universities in Peru participated in this study. They were assessed using a scale for concern about contracting COVID-19, the Patient Health Questionnaire-2, the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-2 (GAD-2), and a brief scale for satisfaction with their studies.ResultsAfter analyzing the data using structural equation modeling, it was found that the explanatory model had an adequate fit. It showed that concern about COVID-19 had a direct and significant effect on anxiety (β = 0.46, p < 0.001) and depression (β = 0.38, p < 0.001). However, the same effect was not evident on satisfaction with studies (β = −0.06, p = 0.068).DiscussionThe uncertainty about contracting COVID-19 triggered symptoms of anxiety and depression among Peruvian university students. Still, it did not affect the satisfaction students felt when their academic expectations were met.

Introduction: An indisputable consequence has to do with the psychological impact of the COVID-19 on health professionalsand students. In Cuba, these psychological manifestations have scarcely been investigated, and there are no reports in the dental undergraduate program. Objective: To analyze the evidences of validity and reliability of a depression, anxiety and stress scale in Cuban dental students in the context of COVID-19. Methods: An instrumental and cross-sectional study was carried out, which included students of all years and Cuban universities. A documentary measurement instrument was validated, using its main psychometric evidence. Convergent validity was analyzed and reliability was estimated using Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Results: 301 students were included, of which 74.09 % were women and whose ages ranged from 17 to 30 years. The asymmetry and kurtosis values of all items were adequate. The confirmatory factorial analysis showed that the factorial structure of 21 items distributed in 3 factors is satisfactory. The goodness of fit indices was equally satisfactory. Introduction: COVID-19 influenced the epidemiology and therapeutic on many diseases; however, there are only few researches in the area of the maxillofacial traumatology and in Cuba there is only one specific study published. Objective: To characterize from an epidemiologic and therapeutic point of view the patients with maxillofacial fractures treated in a Cuban university hospital in the COVID-19 context. Methods: An observational, descriptive and cross-sectional research was performed. Age, sex, origin, types of fractures, laterality, number of traces, anatomical localizations, etiology, treatment, day of the week, and month of trauma were studied. The information was obtained through questioning, clinical examination and radiological studies. Absolute frequencies and percentages were used as summary measures. Results: 54 patients, with a predominance of males (90.7 %), were studied. The most represented age group was 41-60. Interpersonal violence and falls were the main etiologies. One hundred fifty-one fractures with an average of 2.8 fractures per patient were diagnosed. Thirty-two patients (59.3 %) had zygomatic-maxillary complex fractures. The mandibular angle and parasymphysis were the most affected anatomical localizations. Zygomatic-maxillary complex fractures were treated with non-surgical procedures (50 %), while open reduction and internal fixation (57.1 %) was the main therapeutic modality used for treating mandibular fractures. Conclusions: Male patients, with ages between the fifth and sixth decades of the life, affected by zygomatic-maxillary complex fractures prevailed.

Introduction: It is necessary to keep up to date regarding scientific advances, even when having controversial options such as Sci-Hub. The scientific literature is generally limited to opinions about the website, and it is likely that certain personal or academic characteristics of undergraduate students are related to its knowledge. Objective: To identify some socio-educational and scientific factors associated with knowing Sci-Hub in Peruvian dental students. Material and Methods: The study uses a cross-sectional secondary data analysis design. In regard to the main variable, we asked about knowledge of the existence of Sci-Hub and calculated association statistics. Results: There were 263 participants and the average age was 21.7. Of the total, 75% were female, and 59% knew about Sci-Hub. The multivariate analysis showed that knowing scientific journals (aPR: 2.35; 95% CI: 1.43-3.84; p=0.001), publication of scientific articles (aPR: 1.24; 95% CI: 1.00-1.54; p=0.046) and bibliographic search training (aPR: 1.45; 95% CI: 1.14-1.86; p=0.003) were factors associated with a greater level of knowledge in regard to Sci-Hub. In contrast, there was a lower level of knowledge among those with a basic level of English (aPR: 0.64; 95% CI: 0.50-0.82; p=0.001), adjusted for three variables. Conclusion: Slightly more than half of the students know this resource used for obtaining scientific information, and it was predominantly associated with having a scientific background.

Introduction: Nasal fractures are the most common fractures of the maxillofacial region. However, Cuban literature on the subject is scarce and outdated, so the motivation for this research arose. Objective: To characterize patients with nasal fractures treated in a Cuban university hospital in a clinical and epidemiological manner. Methods: An observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out in patients treated at the Maxillofacial Surgery Service of the University General Hospital. “Carlos Manuel de Céspedes” of Bayamo, Granma province, Cuba, from January 1 to December 31, 2020. Clinical, epidemiological and therapeutic variables were studied. Results: 99 patients were included, of whom 74 (74.75 %) were male. In 44.44 % of the cases the ages were between 21 and 40 years. Fifty patients (50.51 %) had fractures resulting from interpersonal violence. Ninety-seven patients (97.98 %) presented epistaxis. Fifty-nine patients (59.60 %) received closed reduction associated with nasal packing and external fixation with plaster cast. Conclusions: Male gender and age group 21 to 40 years predominated. The main etiology was interpersonal violence. Epistaxis was present in most cases. Closed fractures prevailed, as well as those with laterally deviated dorsum.

IntroductionTo determine the factors associated with interest in scientific research in dental students of six Cuban universities.MethodsThis is a multicenter cross-sectional analytical study. Interest in scientific research was the dependent variable, and it was assessed through a questionnaire proved to be reliable (Cronbach’s α = 0.88). We obtained adjusted prevalence ratios (aPR), 95% confidence intervals (95% CI), and p values through generalized linear models.ResultsA total of 587 students were part of the research, and 57.9% manifested interest in scientific research. However, when they were asked if they wanted to pursue a research career in the future, only 45.1% responded affirmatively. We found, through multivariate analysis, that there was more interest in scientific research among those who were student assistants (aPR: 2.42; 95% CI: 1.41–4.16; p = 0.001), those who had previous studies (aPR: 1.35; 95% CI: 1.02–1.79; p = 0.034), and those who had received awards in scientific events (aPR: 1.74; 95% CI: 1.26–2.41; p = 0.001). In contrast, there was less interest among those who were at the clinical stage of their career (aPR: 0.66; 95% CI: 0.49–0.89; p = 0.006), adjusted for seven variables.ConclusionsThere exists interest in scientific research and we found some factors associated with this. This has to be taken into account in order for educational institutions to generate strategies.

Introduction: Cuba has been characterized by sending health delegations to various countries, called “medical missions”. However, the interest of future professionals in joining those delegations has not been investigated. Objectives: Characterize the disposition towards international medical collaboration and identify the associated factors in Cuban students of Stomatology. Methods: A cross-sectional research and secondary data analytics was carried out in students of all years of the academic year 2018-2019, belonging to eight universities. The dependent variable was the report of the willingness to go on medical missions. Prevalence ratios and 95% confidence intervals were calculated. Results: 1174 students participated, of which 830 (71%) were willing to fulfill medical missions. There was a greater willingness towards medical collaboration as age increased (RPa: 1.02; 95% CI 1.00-1.04; p = 0.044); as well as, in students who reported family pressure to study the career (RPa: 1.17; 95% CI 1.09-1.26; p < 0.001). Those who reported good grades before entering college (RPa: 0.83; 95% CI 0.77-0.91; p < 0.001), those of economic solvency (RPa: 0.90; 95% CI 0.90-0.98; p = 0.019) and those who were in the third and fourth academic years (RPa: 0.93; 95% CI 0.88-0.97; p = 0.003) were those with the least willingness to collaborate; adjusted by sex and college. Conclusion: There is a high disposition towards international medical collaboration and it is associated with multiple social and educational aspects.

Introduction: When studying academic performance it is important to address the influencing factors in it, as well as the causes to which students attribute their successes or failures. Hence the need to have valid and reliable instruments for this purpose. Objective: Validate an attributional scale on the motivation of general achievement in relation to academic performance in Cuban students of Stomatology. Methods: An instrumental, cross-sectional and multicenter study included students from nine Cuban universities. From an instrument in Spanish, validated in Venezuelan students, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis were performed. In addition, the internal consistency was calculated with Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Results: 1324 participants were included, of which 66.8% were women and the mean age was 21.2 ± 1.8 years. The statisticians KMO (0.918) and Bartlett (10112.063; gl = 153; p < 0.001) presented acceptable and significant results. The total variance explained by the 18 items distributed in four factors is adequate (60.6%). Robust analyses show how the factor structure is satisfactory. Significant relationships were found between all dimensions of the scale, which suggest the presence of adaptive and maladaptive attributional patterns. Conclusion: The scale is valid and reliable to identify causal attributions about overall academic performance in Cuban stomatology students.

Introduction: It is very important to research into the reasons why students choose a career in Dentistry; however, current Cuban studies on this topic are scarce. This study aims to characterize the motivations for studying Dentistry and to identify the associated factors in Cuban students. Material and Methods: A total of 1324 students from nine Cuban universities participated in this cross-sectional, analytic, observational, multicenter and questionnaire-based study. The “Dental Motivation Scale”, a validated test, was used to measure social, altruistic, economic, and prestige motivators. For statistical analysis, frequencies and percentages were described, and generalized linear models were used to establish statistical associations. Results: Sixty six percent of the surveyed students were female and the mean age was 21.2. The students were more motivated to major in Dentistry by their desire to study for constant progress (57%) as well as the possibility of being able to help others (50%). Those who had relatives that were dentists had a lower social/altruistic motivation (studying for constant progress; p=0.004). Introduction: Academic procrastination can have a negative impact on student education and professional performance, hence the need for valid and reliable instruments for its study. Objective: To analyze the evidence of validity and reliability of an academic procrastination scale in Cuban dental students. Methods: Instrumental, cross-sectional and multicenter study, which included students from seven Cuban universities. Using an instrument in Spanish validated in Peruvian students, a confirmatory factor analysis was performed, structural equation modeling was used, and internal consistency was calculated with Cronbach's α coefficient. Results: 684 participants were included, of which 63.45 % were women and the mean age was 22.0 ± 1.71 years. From the initial scale of 12 items distributed in 2 factors, the factor analysis suggested eliminating item 5. The final model was made up of 11 items, 8 for factor 1 (Academic self-regulation) and 3 for factor 2 (Postponement of activities). A Cronbach's α coefficient of 0.786 (95 % CI = 0.75 - 0.81) was obtained, which indicates that the internal consistency of the instrument is good. Conclusions: The academic procrastination scale (EPA-11-Odonto) has evidence of validity and adequate reliability to evaluate the construct in Cuban dental students.

Introduction: Head and neck region is one of the more complex areas of the body and the squamous cell carcinoma is the most frequent malignant neoplasm in this location. Objective: To characterize, from a clinic, epidemiologic and therapeutic point of view, patients with squamous cell carcinoma of the oral cavity. Methods: Observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study with patients treated in maxillofacial surgery service between January 1, 2018 and December 31, 2020. Clinic, epidemiologic and therapeutic variables were analyzed. The information was obtained through interview and clinical examination. Absolute frequencies and percentages were used as summary measures. Results: Twenty-nine (29) patients, with a predominance of males (69.0 %), were studied. Mean age was 12 years (range between 41 and 80 years). The tongue was the most affected anatomical region (34.5 %) and the sunken or infiltrating ulcer was the most common clinical variant (27.6 %); 48.3 % of the neoplasms were differentiated histologically. 65.5 % of the diagnoses were made in advanced stages of the disease (stages III and IV). The most used treatments were surgery (31.0 %) and the combination of chemotherapy plus radiotherapy (27.6 %). Conclusion: Male patients, lingual lesions, ulcerated appearance and histologically differentiated predominated. The most used therapeutic modality was surgery.

AimsOver the past 2 years, the vaccine conspiracy beliefs construct has been used in a number of different studies. These publications have assessed the determinants and outcomes of vaccine conspiracy beliefs using, in some cases, pooled data from different countries, and compared the results across these contexts. However, studies often do not consider measurement invariance as a necessary requirement for comparative analyses. Therefore, the aim of this study was to develop and evaluate the cross-cultural MI of the COVID-19 Vaccine Conspiracy Beliefs Scale (COVID-VCBS) in 12 Latin American countries.MethodsConfirmatory factor analysis, item response theory analysis and alignment method were applied to test measurement invariance in a large number of groups.ResultsThe COVID-VCBS showed robust psychometric properties and measurement invariance for both factor loadings and crosstabs. Also, a higher level of acceptance of conspiracy beliefs about vaccines is necessary to respond to higher response categories. Similarly, greater acceptance of conspiracy beliefs about COVID-19 vaccines was related to a lower intention to be vaccinated.ConclusionThe results allow for improved understanding of conspiracy beliefs about COVID-19 vaccines in the countries assessed; furthermore, they provide researchers and practitioners with an invariant measure that they can use in cross-cultural studies in Latin America. However, further studies are needed to test invariance in other countries, with the goal of developing a truly international measure of conspiracy beliefs about COVID-19 vaccines.

Introducción: La procrastinación académica puede repercutir negativamente en la formación estudiantil y el desempeño profesional, de allí la necesidad de contar con instrumentos válidos y confiables para su estudio. Objetivo: Analizar las evidencias de validez y confiabilidad de una escala de procrastinación académica en estudiantes cubanos de Estomatología. Métodos: Estudio instrumental, transversal y multicéntrico, que incluyó estudiantes de 7 universidades cubanas. A partir de un instrumento en español validado en estudiantes peruanos, se realizó un análisis factorial confirmatorio, se utilizó el modelamiento de ecuaciones estructurales y se calculó la consistencia interna con el coeficiente α de Cronbach. Resultados: Se incluyó a 684 participantes, de los cuales el 63,45 % fueron mujeres y la media de la edad fue 22,0 ± 1,71 años. De la escala inicial de 12 ítems distribuidos en 2 factores, el análisis factorial sugirió eliminar el ítem 5. El modelo final quedó conformado por 11 ítems, 8 para el factor 1 (Autorregulación académica) y 3 para el factor 2 (Postergación de actividades). Se obtuvo un coeficiente α de Cronbach de 0,786 (IC 95 % = 0,75 - 0,81), lo cual indica que la consistencia interna del instrumento es buena. Conclusiones: La escala de procrastinación académica (EPA-11-Odonto) posee evidencias de validez y confiabilidad adecuadas para evaluar el constructo en estudiantes cubanos de Estomatología.

Conspiracy theories about COVID-19 began to emerge immediately after the first news about the disease and threaten to prolong the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic by limiting people’s willingness of receiving a life-saving vaccine. In this context, this study aimed to explore the variation of conspiracy beliefs regarding COVID-19 and the vaccine against it in 5779 people living in 13 Latin American countries (Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela) according to sociodemographic variables such as gender, age, educational level and source of information about COVID-19. The study was conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic between September 15 and October 25, 2021. The Spanish-language COVID-19 Vaccine Conspiracy Beliefs Scale (ECCV-COVID) and a sociodemographic survey were used. The results indicate that, in most countries, women, people with a lower educational level and those who receive information about the vaccine and COVID-19 from family/friends are more supportive of conspiracy ideas regarding the COVID-19 vaccine. In the case of age, the results vary by country. The analysis of the responses to each of the questions of the ECCV-COVID reveals that, in general, the countries evaluated are mostly in some degree of disagreement or indecision regarding conspiratorial beliefs about COVID-19 vaccines. The findings could help open further study which could support prevention and treatment efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Introduction: Procrastination, which is the action of postponing certain activities, has a negative impact on the academic field, hence the need to investigate the subject. Objective: To determine some factors associated with academic procrastination in Cuban dental students. Methods: Multicenter, observational, analytical and cross-sectional study, performed in 7 Cuban universities. Procrastination was investigated with a validated scale and adjusted prevalence ratios (aPR), 95 % confidence intervals (95 % CI), and p-values were obtained using generalized linear models. Results: Of the 738 students, 17 % and 14 % put off course work and reading that they don't like; respectively. In the multivariate model, it was found that being older (aPR: 1,16; 95 % CI: 1,05-1,29; p= 0,003) and having the support of a tutor (aPR: 1,81; 95 % CI: 1,24-2,64; p= 0,002) were factors associated with a higher frequency of procrastination. On the contrary, there was less procrastination among those who had published at least one scientific article (aPR: 0,62; 95 % CI: 0,40-0,97; p= 0,036); adjusted for 3 variables. Conclusions: Age, having a tutor and the publication of scientific articles were factors associated with academic procrastination in Cuban dental students.

Introduction: Rubber dam isolation is a dental procedure that ensures biosafety and the quality of restorative treatments; however, no appropriate tool is available to evaluate the topic in Peruvian reality. Objective: Design and validate a scale to evaluate the attitude of Peruvian dentists toward rubber dam isolation. Methods: An instrumental cross-sectional study was conducted. The scale was applied through a virtual questionnaire and then distributed on social networks to 279 dentists (143 women and 136 men) selected by intentional nonprobability sampling. Age ranged from 22 to 67 years. Results: Aiken's V coefficient values were favorable for all items. Exploratory factor analysis showed the presence of a single factor. Confirmatory factor analysis suggested deletion of items 1 and 7. Reliability of the scale proved to be good. It was estimated with a Cronbach's α coefficient of 0.71. Conclusions: The scale about attitudes of Peruvian dentists toward rubber dam isolation (Act-AA-Cov19) is a brief, valid and reliable measurement which may be used for research purposes.

Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic has had a negative impact on the mental health of students and is necessary to evaluate these psychological manifestations. Objective: To identify the levels of depression, anxiety and stress in Cuban Stomatology students during the outbreak of COVID-19. Methods: Observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study. The Depression, Anxiety and Stress scale, validated for the undergraduate of Dentistry in Cuba was used. The scale was available in a Google form. Facebook, Telegram and WhatsApp social networks were used to invite the students. Depression, anxiety and stress were categorized according to cut-off points and descriptive statistics were obtained. Results: Of the 329 surveyed from 16 universities, 74,16 % suffered from depression, anxiety 63,22 % and stress 68,69 %. In general, 55,62 % suffered from depression, anxiety and stress. Conclusions: Symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress were identified, being the severe categories the most prevalent in the students of Dentistry.

Introduction: Publishing articles during undergraduate training makes it possible for students to complete the research process and develop skills useful for graduate education. Objective: Describe students' scientific production in dental journals indexed in the SciELO collection during the years 2018 and 2019. Methods: A cross-sectional observational descriptive study was conducted in which articles were the units of analysis. The journals considered were those indexed in the collection when the search was performed and those including articles containing information related to the academic degree of authors. The variables considered were journal name, impact factor, articles with students' participation, year of publication, languages, typologies, topics, number of students per article, authorship types and modes, countries, universities and citations. Results: Nine journals were evaluated, three of which did not contain any article of student authorship. A total 889 articles were published, with students participating in 3.49% of them. The International Journal of Odontostomatology (5.41%) was the journal with the largest number of articles of student authorship. 67.74% of the articles were original. Brazilian and Peruvian student authors published the same number of articles (n = 8). 19.35% of the articles dealt with topics related to maxillofacial surgery. Three articles were affiliated to the Peruvian National University of San Marcos. Conclusions: Students' scientific production is low in dental journals indexed in SciELO, and is mainly composed of original articles.

Introduction: The problems with the articles' authorship are frequent; however, in Cuba there are few investigations on the topic. Objective: To determine the authorship changes in the publication of works presented in medical student forums at national level in Cuba and its associated factors. Methods: Observational and cross-sectional study using analytical techniques, that included all the works presented in 2016, 2017 and 2019 editions of the medical student forums at national level. A Google Scholar search strategy was carried out in order to check if these works had been published in scientific journals. After, authorship changes were identified and associated factors were looked for. Prevalence ratios (aPR), 95 % confidence intervals (95 % CI) and p values using generalized linear models were obtained. Results: Of the 129 published works, 89,9 % (n= 116) had authorship changes. In the multivariate analysis, there was more frequency of authorship changes when the articles were published in professionals' journals (aPR: 1,29; IC 95 %: 1,11 - 1,50; p= 0,001) and when the publication occurred later to the event (aPR: 1,20; IC 95 %: 1,01 - 1,42; p= 0,042); that which was contrary when the corresponding author was a student (aPR: 0,79; IC 95 %: 0,66 - 0,95; p= 0,010), adjusted by three variables. Conclusion: Almost the entirety of the articles had authorship changes and some factors associated to a higher or smaller frequency in those changes were determined (publication, time and corresponding author).

Introduction: Academic mistreated is common in Peru, but it has not been investigated if it happens during the elaboration of the thesis. Objective: Determine the factors associated with the perception of mistreatment towards thesis students by Peruvian health sciences advisers, juries and administrators. Methods: Cross-sectional and analytic study based on a survey previously validated in Peru and that it measured the perception of general mistreated on the part of advisory, juries and administrative personnel; to which was associated the population's characteristics. Results: Of the 426 surveyed, the commonest mistreated were because the advisers (8.5 %) and the juries (9.9 %) always forced them to make what they wanted, also, the university didn't give the facilities (17.6 %). Studying medicine (p= 0.030), nursing (p= 0.041), obstetrics (p= 0.003) and to reside in the mountain (p< 0.001) were factors associated to the perception of a general mistreated, adjusted by the age. The age (p= 0.024) and to reside in the mountain (p< 0.001) were factors associated to the mistreated perception on the part of the adviser, adjusted by the university type. Residing in the mountain (p< 0.001) was a factor associated to the mistreated perception on the part of the juries, adjusted by the university type and the university career. Conclusion: There are intentional manifestations of power and imposition of opinions on the part of advisory, juries and administrative toward thesis students, showing that this phenomenon is recurrent in the higher education in Peru.

Introduction: Rubber dam isolation is a dental technique that increases the probability of successful treatment, especially in this pandemic. Aim: To characterize the attitudes of Peruvian dentists towards rubber dam insolation in times of COVID-19 pandemic and to identify factors associated with them. Methods: Observational and cross-sectional study using analytical techniques, carried out through a virtual survey of dentists in Peru. The Act-AA-Cov19 scale was used, the score was divided into the upper tertile (those in agreement) versus the other scores (comparison category); association statistics were obtained. Results: Of the 279 dentists, the importance of rubber dam isolation and use of personal protective equipment was the most accepted (96 % always agreed and 4 % almost always). The need to update knowledge about rubber dam isolation was associated with a better attitude towards the procedure (PRc: 1,52; 95 % CI: 1,18-1.95; p value = 0,001); while the result was the opposite in graduates from private universities (PRc: 0,79; 95 % CI: 0,66-0,95; p value = 0,011). Conclusion: The most widely accepted premise is about the importance of rubber dam isolation and use of personal protective equipment, followed by the fact that a saliva / blood-free work area facilitates the procedure.

Introduction: COVID-19 is a disease with worldwide impact that has fully caught attention of researchers. The Cuban scientific output, after one year of confronting this pandemic, has not been studied from a bibliometric perspective. Objective: To characterize the output of original scientific articles and review articles on COVID-19 published by Cuban authors in the journals included in the Scopus bibliographic database, the collaborations in these publications and their impact, according to the citation of the research in the world literature. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional, descriptive and observational study was performed, using a bibliometric approach. A search strategy was used to retrieve articles on the subject and bibliometric indicators of output, visibility, leadership, collaboration and impact were studied. Results: Cuba contributed 2.5% of the Latin American output and 0.2% of the world output. Of the national scientific output (133 articles, 111 original and 22 reviews), 84.2% were authored by a Cuban corresponding author (Cuban leadership). However, the majority (n = 20; 71.4%) of articles with international collaboration (n = 28; 21.1%) had foreign corresponding authors. Of the total, 33.8% (n = 45) corresponded to articles without collaboration. Only 13.5% of the articles (n = 18) were published in journals with high visibility (Q1). Of all the output, 68.4% (n = 91) was in Cuban journals. The output in English represented 29.3% (n = 39) and achieved greater impact than the articles in Spanish in terms of citations. As the visibility of the journals increased according to the quartiles where they are, the percentage of articles published in English and cited articles increased too, but Cuban scientific leadership decreased. Conclusions: The greater the leadership in Cuban research, the lower its impact, and the lower the indexes of international collaboration. Cuban researchers are not yet able to systematically generate research that has a significant impact on the international scientific community.

The invariance of the Preventive COVID-19 Infection Behaviors Scale (PCIBS) was evaluated in 12 Latin American countries (Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay). A total of 5183 people from the aforementioned countries participated, selected using the snowball sampling method. Measurement invariance was assessed by multigroup confirmatory factor analysis (MG-CFA) and Multi-Group Factor Analysis Alignment (CFA-MIAL). In addition, item characteristics were assessed based on Item Response Theory. The results indicate that the original five-item version of the PCIBS is not adequate; whereas a four-item version of the PCIBS (PCIBS-4) showed a good fit in all countries. Thus, using the MG-CFA method, the PCIBS-4 achieved metric invariance, while the CFA-MIAL method indicated that the PCIBS-4 shows metric and scalar invariance. Likewise, the four items present increasing difficulties and high values in the discrimination parameters. The comparison of means of the PCIBS-4 reported irrelevant differences between countries; however, Mexico and Peru presented the highest frequency of preventive behaviors related to COVID-19. It is concluded that the PCIBS-4 is a unidimensional self-report measure which is reliable and invariant across the twelve participating Latin American countries. It is expected that the findings will be of interest to social and health scientists, as well as those professionals directly involved in public health decision making.

Introduction: The lines of research approved in Peruvian universities should consider within their thematic axis health problems of the country, especially in the field of mental health, where there is a deficit of scientific production. Objective: To determine the frequency of research lines that include mental health as a study priority in Peruvian universities. Methods: Descriptive observational study. The units of analysis were the lines of research approved and available on the website of 34 Peruvian universities that offer psychology courses and that obtained institutional licensing until 2019. Results: 48% of the lines of research consider as a priority of study the factors associated with depression, violence, addictive behaviors, psychosis and dementia; 20% the state of negative and positive mental health; 4% the development of intersectoral strategies with cultural appropriateness, and another 4% the evaluation of prevention and promotion strategies in mental health with intersectoral participation. In contrast, none consider the dynamics of social, biological, behavioral, family and environmental determinants, nor the implementation of the supply of services for mental health care according to life stages. Conclusions: The frequency of research lines that include mental health as a priority of study in Peruvian universities is low. This may have repercussions on the scientific production in mental health and the quality of formative research at the undergraduate level.

Introduction: COVID-19 pandemic has impacted in different scopes of higher education, that is why is necessary to generate researches that contribute with evidences on this topic. Aim: To validate a scale for evaluating the Cuban dental students' perceptions on the possible academic impact of the COVID-19. Methods: Instrumental and cross-sectional study. Starting from a Spanish language instrument validated in Peruvian medical and other university students, the first step of the validation through the expert’s criteria was performed. After, a factorial exploratory analysis (FEA), by not pondered minima squares, was performed and the internal consistency was measured through Alpha of Cronbach. Results: 159 students were suitable for analysis; 60.38 % were men and the mean age was 21.86 years. All items were evaluated in a favorable way by the expert’s criteria. From the initial scale, the preliminary analysis suggested to eliminate the item 6. The relevance of the FEA was justified with the KMO index (0.801) and Bartlett's test (344.8; gl=15; p=0.000) being acceptable and significant. An Alpha of Cronbach's coefficient of 0.915 with a 95% confidence interval of 0.90-0.91 was obtained; indicating that the consistency of the instrument is good. Conclusions: A single factor scale measuring Cuban dental students' perception of the possible academic impact of the COVID-19 was validated.

Introduction: Squamous cell carcinoma is the most frequent neoplasm of the head and neck. An adequate knowledge about its risk factors could reduce its morbidity and mortality. Objective: To identify the causal association between some risk factors and the apparition of the oral squamous cell carcinoma. Methods: Observational, analytic and case-control study conducted with patients treated at Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Provincial General Hospital's maxillofacial surgery service between January 1, 2018 and December 31, 2020. For the statistical analysis of the risk factors, the strength of the association with the Odds Ratio and its confidence intervals (95 % CI) was measured and later a multivariate analysis was performed. Results: The sample was comprised of 87 patients (29 cases and 58 controls). The 68.96% of the cases (n=20) were male patients and their average age was 63.03 years. People with history of alcohol consumption showed a 16 times greater risk (OR=16.03). Poor oral hygiene (OR: 5.23; CI 95%: 1.18-23.29; p=0.030) and traumatic irritants (OR: 4.41; CI 95 %: 1.01-19.23; p=0.048) were risk factors too. Conclusion: A strong association between the disease and the antecedent of alcohol consumption, the exposition to traumatic irritating and the poor oral hygiene was identified.

Introduction: Curriculum evaluation is an important task in the teaching-learning process; however, the characteristics of scientific production in the health sciences area are unknown. Objective: To characterize the production of scientific articles on the evaluation of medical curricula in Cuban biomedical journalsMaterial and Methods: A bibliometric study was carried out. The universe consisted of all the articles related to the evaluation of medical curricula, published in Cuban medical journals. The bibliometric indicators studied were: number of articles, number of authors, year of publication, document citations, h-index, journals with their respective indexing, origin of the specialty, subject or discipline evaluated, thematic classification, and territorial origin. The databases used were SciELO, Google Scholar and the Virtual Health Library. The search terms were: evaluation, study plan, curriculum, assessment, pertinence and program.Results: A total of 22 articles were found, with a predominance of articles written by four authors (n=7; 31.82%). Most of the articles were published in 2007 (n=3; 13.64%). Most of them were published in the medical journal Educación Médica Superior (n=9; 40.91%), with 148 citations. The highest number of contributions were related to curriculum assessment (n=8; 36.36%). Nine articles (40.91%) evaluated the study of Medicine.Conclusions: The scientific production of the evaluation of medical curricula in Cuban journals is limited, predominating the articles related to the specialty of Medicine written by four authors, and authors of the National School of Public Health (Sp. Escuela Nacional de Salud Pública; ENSAP).

Introducción: Muchos de los trabajos que se presentan en eventos científicos no concluyen el ciclo de la investigación, con la respectiva publicación. Objetivo: Caracterizar los trabajos presentados en los fórums estudiantiles nacionales de Ciencias Médicas realizados en Cuba en 2016 y 2017 e identificar los factores asociados a su publicación. Material y Métodos: Se realizó un estudio observacional analítico transversal, que evaluó las características de los trabajos presentados. Mediante una estrategia de búsqueda en Google Académico se constató si habían sido publicados en revistas científicas. Se obtuvieron razones de prevalencia (RPa), intervalos de confianza a 95 % (IC 95 %) y valores p mediante modelos lineales generalizados. Resultados: De los 537 trabajos, se presentaron 272 (50,65 %) en la modalidad presencial, 2 en inglés (0,37 %), 420 (78,21 %) eran trabajos de investigación y 1 (0,24 %) multicéntrico. La sesión de trabajos con el mayor número de presentaciones fue la de Medicina Interna (n=110; 20,48 %), el mayor número de investigaciones tuvo a 3 autores (n=351; 65,36 %) y un tutor/asesor (n=249; 46,37 %). La frecuencia de publicación fue de 11,55 % (n=62), de los cuales solo 11 (17,74 %) fueron citados y en 52 (83,87 %) hubo cambios en la autoría. En el análisis bivariado, los temas de estomatología (RP: 6,59; IC 95 %: 1,58-27,5; p=0,010) y ciencias quirúrgicas (RP: 4,52; IC 95 %: 1,03-19,8; p=0,045) tuvieron mayor frecuencia de publicación en revistas científicas. Conclusiones: Solo se publica uno de cada diez trabajos presentados en los fórums nacionales estudiantiles de Ciencias Médicas evaluados. Se deben implementar nuevas medidas y reforzar las existentes para incentivar una mayor publicación de los trabajos presentados.

Introduction: Bibliometric studies provide an interesting overview of the topic under analysis, thus attesting to its importance. Objective: To describe the Cuban scientific production ouput indexed in Scopus in the category Dentistry in the period 1995-2016. Methods: A search was conducted to identify publications indexed in Scopus under the category of dentistry in which at least one author was of Cuban professional affiliation. The bibliometric indicators of output, visibility and impact were addressed. Results: 518 papers were published (449 original), which have an h-index of 16 and have received 1 465 citations (207 self-citations). 2015 was the year when the largest number of papers was published (n= 51, 9.85 %). 53.86 % of the papers (n= 279) have been cited, and the average number of citations per document was 2.83. There was a predominance of papers published in Spanish in the Revista Cubana de Estomatología (n= 448, 86.49 %). In 15.64 % of the papers (n= 81) at least one author had been affiliated with the former Higher Institute of Medical Sciences of Havana, currently University of Medical Sciences of Havana. The most productive researcher was Daniele Botticelli, with 47 papers which have received 408 citations and have an h-index of 12. Conclusions: Cuban scientific production about dentistry exhibits a growing tendency characterized by the publication of original papers in Spanish in fourth quartile journals.

Resumen: Introducción: Las revistas científicas estudiantiles constituyen el vehículo de difusión por excelencia de la ciencia joven que se realiza desde la perspectiva estudiantil. Objetivo: Caracterizar la producción científica de IJMS, ANACEM y CIMEL a partir de variables métricas que brindan la homogeneidad necesaria para su comparación y que permitan a la vez encontrar elementos distintivos entre ellas. Materiales y métodos: Se realizó un estudio cienciométrico considerando como unidad de análisis los artículos publicados electrónicamente en el período 2013-2016. Se calcularon los indicadores cienciométricos mediante el software Harzing's Publish or Perish 5, tomando como base de datos el Google Académico. Se aplicaron las pruebas de chi cuadrado y análisis de varianza clasificación simple, así como el test de Student-Newman-Keuls considerándose siempre un nivel de significación menor de 0,05 (95% de confianza). Resultados: Las revistas han recibido 181 citas y poseen un índice h de 4. Se analizaron 29 números en los que se publicaron 326 artículos con una media de 81,5 ± 7,33 por año. La revista con mayor cantidad de artículos fue el International Journal of Medical Students (n=135; 41,41%). Critical reading of scientific papers and publication of letters to the editor are skills to be developed in undergraduate training. Such early command would improve scientific communication when master's degree and PhD programs are undertaken. By then, scientific communication skills should be well formed and in ideal conditions for their broadening. The present communication intends to contribute some considerations about critical reading and submission of letters to the editor as a new section available in the Cuban Journal of Dentistry. In the context of Cuban dentistry, publication of this sort of papers is scarce. Therefore, the Cuban Journal of Dentistry has decided to open this new section with the purpose of contributing to scientific debate for the benefit of the health of the population. The space will be an open, necessary framework for the conduct of debates aimed at improving Cuban and worldwide dental science. Researchers are encouraged to make this new section their own, for the benefit of the health of our populations.

Introduction: Conducting research at the undergraduate level is essential to prepare future professionals for the process of properly channeling their scientific interest and provision of care. However, the factors influencing the degree of participation of students in research are unknown. Aim: To determine the socio-educational factors associated with the perception of research among stomatology students in a Cuban university. Materials and Methods: Cross-sectional analytical study conducted on 166 stomatology students. Participants received an anonymous, validated and self-administered questionnaire designed to collect information on the perception of scientific research within the educational spectrum, which included elements related to writing, participation, scientific publication and the interest of pursuing a career in research. Using associative statistics, those who had an overall positive perception of research were considered interested and were assessed according to socio-educational variables. Results: Students showed a positive perception of scientific research; however, when asked if they wanted to pursue a career in research, only 61.4% responded affirmatively. Introduction: Much of the research works developed by students and presented in scientific events are not published in scientific journals. Objective: To characterize the research works presented in the 2016 and 2018 editions of the Evento Científico Estudiantil Nacional de Medicina Interna (National Student Scientific Event on Internal Medicine - (MEDINTÁVILA) and those published in scientific journals, as well as to identify factors associated with their publication. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional analytical study. A search strategy was carried out in April 2020 in Google Scholar in order to verify if the works presented in the 2016 y 2018 editions of the event had been published, in English or Spanish, in scientific journals. Introducción: Las motivaciones para elegir las carreras universitarias determinan en buena medida el desempeño profesional, de allí la necesidad de contar con instrumentos válidos y confiables para su estudio. Objetivo: Validar una escala para evaluar las motivaciones para estudiar Estomatología en alumnos cubanos. Métodos: Estudio de tipo instrumental, transversal y multicéntrico, que incluyó estudiantes de nueve universidades cubanas. A partir de un instrumento en español validado en estudiantes latinoamericanos de medicina, se realizó un análisis factorial exploratorio por mínimos cuadrados no ponderados. Luego se realizó un análisis factorial confirmatorio y se midió la consistencia interna con el alpha de Cronbach. Resultados: Se incluyó a 1324 participantes, de los cuales el 66,8 % fueron mujeres y la media de la edad fue 21,2 ± 1,8 años. Sobre la base de una matriz de correlaciones, la prueba de Bartlett arrojó indicadores significativos (p < 0,05) y el índice KMO fue superior a 0,8. La varianza explicada fue superior al 50 % y el análisis paralelo sugirió solo 2 factores. De la escala inicial, el análisis factorial sugirió eliminar los ítems 4 y 5 (factor 1), 9 y 12 (factor 2) y el ítem 1, por lo que el modelo quedó conformado por 7 ítems, 3 para el factor 1 y 4 para el factor 2. El ajuste e índices fueron adecuados, lo que demostró validez de constructo. Conclusión: La escala de motivaciones para estudiar Estomatología demostró ser válida y confiable, y está conformada por dos dominios que denotan aspectos sociales y económicos. Introducción: Las enfermedades producidas por arbovirus son un problema grave a nivel mundial. Objetivo: Caracterizar los pacientes estudiados por sospecha de arbovirosis en una institución de salud. Métodos: Se realizó un estudio observacional, descriptivo y transversal en el policlínico “Edor de los Reyes Martínez Áreas” del municipio Jiguaní, provincia Granma, en el periodo comprendido entre el 1 de enero y el 31 de diciembre de 2019. Se trabajó con una muestra de 2947 personas y se estudiaron las siguientes variables: edad, sexo, consejos populares, forma de identificación de signos/síntomas, diagnóstico inicial y positividad a dengue. Resultados: El 40,07 % de los casos estudiados pertenece al consejo popular Jiguaní Norte. Fueron pacientes femeninas 1590 (53,95 %). El rango de edad predominante fue 41-60 años (n = 1222; 41,47 %). En 1908 (64,74 %) pacientes la identificación de signos y síntomas sugerentes de arbovirosis fue mediante las pesquisas. El 98,88 % de los pacientes (n = 2914) fue diagnosticado inicialmente con síndrome febril inespecífico. La única arbovirosis identificada fue el dengue, el que se encontró en 637 pacientes. Octubre fue el mes con mayor número de pacientes estudiados (n = 1063; 36,07 %). Conclusiones: La mayoría de los casos pertenecía al sexo femenino y a la zona urbanizada del municipio. El consejo popular urbano Jiguaní Norte fue el que más casos positivos a dengue aportó.

Introduction: The organism adapts to the place where it resides, but this topic in the Peruvian working populationhas not been studied. Objective: To determine the physiological and anthropometric variations in workers according to their residence in three geographical altitudes of Peru. Methodology: Analytic cross-sectional research was performed, with physiologic (six laboratory parameters) and anthropometric (weight and height) data of 7500 workers at three different altitudes: Lima (sea level), Arequipa (2500 meters above the sea level) and Cerro de Pasco (4300 meters above the sea level). Introducción: la formación de recursos humanos competentes en el empleo de las tecnologías de la informática y las comunicaciones es importante, sobre todo en las carreras de ciencias médicas, que se encuentran en permanente actualización. Objetivo: identificar el uso que los estudiantes de estomatología hacen de las redes sociales y recursos de información científica. Métodos: estudio transversal-analítico realizado en 65 estudiantes que recibieron un cuestionario anónimo, validado y autoadministrado. La variable principal fue el uso de redes sociales y recursos de información. Se definió el uso frecuente de la fuente de información, si accedía a ella cuando menos una vez a la semana, las otras opciones fueron consideradas como uso no frecuente. Se estudiaron otras variables socioeducativas de interés. Resultados: participaron 65 estudiantes, en los cuales predominó el sexo femenino. Google y SciELO fueron los recursos de información más conocidos. El 89,23 % de los estudiantes tiene perfil en la red social Facebook: el 62,07 % la utiliza para realizar algún tipo de actividad académica y solo el 12,07 % la percibe como fuente generadora de distracción. Diez estudiantes (15,38 %) declararon conocer el sitio web pirata Sci-Hub. El tener computadoras modernas, tecnología Wi-fi y biblioteca virtual en las universidades estuvo asociado significativamente al acceso a muchos de los recursos de información estudiados. Conclusiones: existe un elevado desconocimiento de la mayoría de los buscadores evaluados. Google y SciELO fueron los recursos de información consultados al menos una vez por semana. La presencia de determinadas condiciones logísticas en las universidades se asoció significativamente al acceso a muchas de las bases de datos evaluadas.

Cada vez que nos enfrascamos en indagar por los trabajos de autores cubanos que se publican en forma de artículos científicos, nos surge una gran preocupación: ¿estaremos a tiempo de modificar patrones?

Introducción: Muchos de los trabajos que se presentan en eventos científicos no concluyen el ciclo de la investigación, con la respectiva publicación. Objetivo: Caracterizar las investigaciones presentadas en el Congreso Internacional de Estomatología, Cuba 2015 e identificar los factores asociados a su publicación. Métodos: Se realizó un estudio observacional analítico transversal, que evaluó las características de los trabajos presentados. Mediante una estrategia de búsqueda en español e inglés a través de Google Académico se constató si habían sido publicados en revistas científicas. Se obtuvieron razones de prevalencia, intervalos de confianza al 95 % y valores p mediante modelos lineales generalizados. Resultados: De los 498 trabajos presentados, 87 (17,47 %) se relacionaron con la educación médica, 183 (36,75 %) se presentaron en el formato de póster electrónico, solo 13 estuvieron escritos en inglés (2,61 %), 330 (66,27 %) eran trabajos de investigación, 2 (0,61%) eran multicéntricos, 56 (11,24 %) tuvieron autores estudiantiles, 126 (25,30 %) a cuatro autores y 347 (69,68 %) a su primer autor mujer. se publicaron 61 (12,25 %) trabajos, fundamentalmente como artículos originales (n=41; 77,05 %); en 43 (70,49 %) hubo cambios en la autoría. la presencia de un autor extranjero se asoció significativamente a la publicación de las investigaciones (rp: 4,35; ic 95 %: 1,09-17,3; p = 0,038). Conclusiones: Predominaron los trabajos de investigación escritos en español con diseño observacional. Solo se publica uno de cada diez trabajos presentados. Introduction: Dental research in Cuba has had important progress. That's why, a bibliometric analysis would indicate the tendency that it takes. Objective: To describe the Cuban dental scientific production indexed in the Web of Science in the period 2007-2016. Methods : An observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study was performed through bibliometric analysis. The following variables were studied: amount of articles, citations, self-citations, typologies, topics, categories, Cuban institutions, provinces, language, year of publication, countries, number of authors per article, kinds of authorship, annual index of collaboration, kinds of collaboration, H index, annual growth rate, journals, impact factor, quartile and publications of high quality. Results: 57 articles (56 originals and one abstract) were published, which have an H index of 12 and have received 457 citations (96 self-citations) with an average of 8.02 and 50.78 citations per article and per year, respectively. The growth rate and the index of collaboration had a yearly average value of 45.79 % and 5.39 %, respectively. High quality articles (n= 49; 85,96 %) predominated, related with implantology (n= 47; 82,46 %) published in the first quartile Journal Oral Clinical Implants Research (n= 44; 77,19 %), as well as the international collaboration with Italy, Brazil, and China. The most cited article had an annual average of citations of 6.50, while the most productive researcher was Daniele Botticelli, with 47 articles and 369 citations, with an H index of 11. Conclusions: Cuban dental scientific production, as well as its impact in terms of citation, shows a tendency of irregular growth characterized by international high collaboration.

Resumen: Introducción: Los estudios bibliométricos aplicados a las revistas científicas constituyen instrumentos que permiten evaluar su desempeño e impacto. Objetivo: Evaluar la producción científica de MEDICC Review en el período 2010-2015. Métodos: Se realizó un estudio bibliométrico descriptivo-retrospectivo. Las variables estudiadas fueron: total de números, total de artículos, citas, autocitas, promedio de citas por año, promedio de citas por artículos, promedio de citas por autores, promedio de citas por autores por año, promedio de artículos por autor, promedio de autores por artículo, índice h, índice g, índice h contemporáneo, índice h individual, índice h individual normalizado, índice AWCR, índice AW, índice AWCRpA, índice e, índice hm, índice h individual anual, amplitud H, amplitud G, tipología documental, afiliación de los autores, índice de Price, idioma de las referencias bibliográficas y SCImago Journal Rank. Se calcularon los indicadores cienciométricos mediante el software Harzing's Publish or Perish 5 tomando como base de datos el Google Académico. Se utilizó el paquete estadístico SPSS 22.0. Resultados: Se publicaron 274 artículos (86 originales) con 4.728 referencias bibliográficas (80,6% en inglés); el promedio de referencias por artículo fue de 17,3. La revista posee un índice h de 6 y un índice g de 7. El índice de Price osciló entre 0,17 y 0,84, con un valor promedio de 0,45. Predominaron los artículos de autoría cubana. Resumen: Introducción: El análisis de las citas es un proceso bibliométrico que determina la influencia de un artículo en la comunidad científica. Objetivo: Analizar los 100 artículos sobre ameloblastomas más citados durante el período 2000-2016. Método: Se realizó un estudio bibliométrico empleando el Harzing's Publish or Perish 5 software y el paquete estadístico Minitab, Inc, 2010 versión 16.1.0. Las variables estudiadas fueron: nombre de la revista, citas, total de artículos, filiación de los autores, tipología documental, años de publicación, índice h, cantidad de autores y palabras clave. Resultados: El número de citaciones de los artículos del top-100 osciló entre 195 y 31; el valor promedio para este indicador fue de 59,55 ± 34,12. El artículo más citado fue el Lau y Samman con 149 citas (12,42 citas por año). Los artículos del top-100 tienen un índice h de 45 y fueron publicados en 45 revistas científicas; la publicación con el mayor número de papers fue el Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery con 14. Existió predominio de autoría japonesa, artículos originales y papers escritos por 4 autores (n = 32). Ameloblastoma, ameloblastin, desmoplastic ameloblastoma y enucleation fueron las palabras clave más empleadas. The most cited article was Lau & Samman with 149 citations (12.42 citations per year). The one hundred most cited articles have an h index of 45, and were published in 45 scientific journals. The publication with the highest number of articles was the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery with 14. There was a prevalence of Japanese authorship, original articles and papers written by 4 authors (n = 32). Objective: To analyze the fifty top-cited articles on trigeminal neuralgia during the period 2000-2016. Methods: A bibliometric study using Harzing's Publish or Perish 5 software and Google Scholar as the database was performed. The term used in the search was "trigeminal neuralgia." A list was generated with the 50 top-cited articles in the period 2000-2016 and variables of interest were studied. Results: The articles received 12316 citations with a mean of 724.47 and 246.32 citations per year and per articles, respectively. The article with the highest mean number of citations/year (48.57) was published by Cruccu et al., in 2010. The articles had an h index of 48 and were published in 24 scientific journals. The journals with the highest number of articles were Neurology and Journal of Neurosurgery, with 7 articles each (14%). A prevalence of North American authorship was observed (n=14; 28.0%). Original articles (n=26; 52.0%) and papers written by six authors (n=12; 24.0%) were also the most prevalent. The highest number of articles by a binomial international collaboration was from Austria-Italy (n=3; 6.00%). The most researched topics were related to updates in specific treatments for trigeminal neuralgia and neuropathic pain in general. Conclusions: The most cited article was published in 2010 in the European Journal of Neurology. Articles published in the years 2001 and 2002 received the highest number of citations. The most relevant scientific collaborations were observed between Italian and Austrian researchers.

Objetivo: Describir la producción científica mundial sobre ameloblastomas indexada en GoPubMed y SciELO. Métodos: Se realizó un estudio observacional descriptivo transversal considerando como unidad de análisis los artículos publicados en revistas indexadas en GoPubMed y SciELO. Las redes de coautoría y co-ocurrencia de descriptores se crearon con el software VOSviewer y el método full counting. Resultados: En GoPub- Med se recuperaron 4 159 artículos con un promedio anual de publicación de 56,97 ± 39,62. Existió predominio de los documentos publicados en el período 2010-2014 (n=758; 18,23%) procedentes de Estados Unidos (n=129; 3,1%) así como de artículos publicados en la revista Oral Surgery Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology (n=40; 0,96%). Los investigadores Hiroyuki Kumamoto y Chong Huat Siar constituyeron los autores con mayor número de artículos y redes de coautoría y cooperación internacional (36 y 31 respectivamente). «Ameloblastoma» y «mandibular neoplasms» fueron los descriptores con mayor número de ocurrencias. En SciELO se recuperaron 84 artículos con un promedio anual de publicación de 4,94 ± 2,88. Existió predominio de artículos de autoría brasileña (n=31; 36,9%), investigaciones originales (n=41; 48,81%) y documentos en idioma español (n=41; 48,81%). Conclusiones: Se evidenció una tendencia al incremento de las investigaciones en los últimos años, predominando los estudios originales así como la creación de redes internacionales de colaboración científica.

RESUMEN En el contexto social cubano, la actividad laboral les plantea a los profesionales de la estomatología requisitos morales elevados. El currículo docente de dicha carrera dota a este profesional de la salud de las herramientas teóricas y prácticas; no obstante, resulta necesario potenciar el desarrollo de buenas prácticas de atención estomatológica en vínculo con una elevada sensibilidad humana, lo cual demanda de un proceso formativo comprometido y responsable enfocado en este sentido desde el punto de vista bioético. La presente investigación, tuvo como propósito describir los posicionamientos teóricos sobre la formación bioética del futuro profesional de estomatología en la universidad médica cubana. Desde una lógica integradora que señala a la bioética como un componente medular en la formación del futuro profesional de estomatología, se concluye que aún resulta insuficiente el componente bioético en la formación de los futuros profesionales de estomatología, cuestión de vital trascendencia en la solución de problemas del complejo buco-facial, razón que argumenta la incuestionabilidad de su enseñanza y aprendizaje dentro de la estomatología. ABSTRACT In the Cuban social context, the work activity poses to the professionals of the stomatology high moral requirements. The teaching curriculum of this career gives this health professional the theoretical and practical tools; however, it is necessary to promote the development of good practices of stomatological attention in connection with a high human sensitivity, which demands a committed and responsible formative process focused in this sense from the bioethical point of view. The present research aimed to describe the theoretical positions on the bioethical formation of the future professional of stomatology in the Cuban medical university. From an integrative logic that points to bioethics as a core component in the future professional development of stomatology, it is concluded that the bioethical component in the training of future stomatology professionals is still insufficient, a matter of vital importance in solving problems of the complex buco-facial, reason that argues the unquestionability of its teaching and learning within the stomatology.
