The superalkali electride e−⋯Li3+–PHY and superalkalide Liδ−–Li2(1–δ)−–PHY− show a good switchable effect.

Surgical resection remains the preferred approach for some patients with glioblastoma (GBM), and eradication of the residual tumour niche after surgical resection is very helpful for prolonging patient survival. However, complete surgical resection of invasive GBM is difficult because of its ambiguous boundary. Herein, a novel targeting material, c(RGDyk)-poloxamer-188, was synthesized by modifying carboxyl-terminated poloxamer-188 with a glioma-targeting cyclopeptide, c(RGDyk). Quantum dots (QDs) as fluorescent probe were encapsulated into the self-assembled c(RGDyk)-poloxamer-188 polymer nanoparticles (NPs) to construct glioma-targeted QDs-c(RGDyk)NP for imaging-guided surgical resection of GBM. QDs-c(RGDyk)NP exhibited a moderate hydrodynamic diameter of 212.4 nm, a negative zeta potential of –10.1 mV and good stability. QDs-c(RGDyk)NP exhibited significantly lower toxicity against PC12 and C6 cells and HUVECs than free QDs. Moreover, in vitro cellular uptake experiments demonstrated that QDs-c(RGDyk)NP specifically targeted C6 cells, making them display strong fluorescence. Combined with ultrasound-targeted microbubble destruction (UTMD), QDs-c(RGDyk)NP specifically accumulated in glioma tissue in orthotropic tumour rats after intravenous administration, evidenced by ex vivo NIR fluorescence imaging of bulk brain and glioma tissue sections. Furthermore, fluorescence imaging with QDs-c(RGDyk)NP guided accurate surgical resection of glioma. Finally, the safety of QDs-c(RGDyk)NP was verified using pathological HE staining. In conclusion, QDs-c(RGDyk)NP may be a potential imaging probe for imaging-guided surgery.

The neuronal differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells offers a new strategy for the treatment of neurological disorders. Thus, there is a need to identify a noninvasive and sensitive in vivo imaging approach for real-time monitoring of transplanted stem cells. Our previous study confirmed that magnetic resonance imaging, with a focus on the ferritin heavy chain 1 reporter gene, could track the proliferation and differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells that had been transduced with lentivirus carrying the ferritin heavy chain 1 reporter gene. However, we could not determine whether or when bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells had undergone neuronal differentiation based on changes in the magnetic resonance imaging signal. To solve this problem, we identified a neuron-specific enolase that can be differentially expressed before and after neuronal differentiation in stem cells. In this study, we successfully constructed a lentivirus carrying the neuron-specific enolase promoter and expressing the ferritin heavy chain 1 reporter gene; we used this lentivirus to transduce bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells. Cellular and animal studies showed that the neuron-specific enolase promoter effectively drove the expression of ferritin heavy chain 1 after neuronal differentiation of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells; this led to intracellular accumulation of iron and corresponding changes in the magnetic resonance imaging signal. In summary, we established an innovative magnetic resonance imaging approach focused on the induction of reporter gene expression by a neuron-specific promoter. This imaging method can be used to noninvasively and sensitively detect neuronal differentiation in stem cells, which may be useful in stem cell-based therapies.

BACKGROUND Primitive neuroectodermal tumors (PNETs) are rare, sporadic malignant tumors of the peripheral nervous system, bone, or soft tissues. However, to the best of our knowledge, only three cases of PNET in the pericardium have been reported in the English literature, and their magnetic resonance imaging findings have not previously been described. CASE SUMMARY A 3-year-old boy was hospitalized with a 1-wk history of recurrent vomiting and weakness. Detailed history-taking revealed no evidence of heart disease. Computed tomography demonstrated a soft tissue mass in the left pericardial cavity with heterogeneous contrast enhancement. The border between the mass and the heart was poorly defined. Thoracotomy revealed a mass invading the left ventricle, with a high risk of bleeding. The mass was considered inoperable. A biopsy was performed, and the histological and immunohistochemical findings confirmed the diagnosis of primary PNET of the pericardium. The patient received four cycles of standard chemotherapy. Chest magnetic resonance imaging 3 mo after the initiation of chemotherapy revealed that the tumor in the pericardium still existed, but its volume had slightly decreased. The patient was lost to follow-up, and the final outcome was therefore unknown. CONCLUSION Medical imaging plays an important role in defining the pericardial origin of PNET and understanding its characteristics. Magnetic resonance imaging can provide more information on the tumor than computed tomography and may thus aid therapeutic planning.

Chronic infantile neurological, cutaneous and articular (CINCA) syndrome is a rare autoinflammatory disease caused by monogenic defects in the NLRP3 gene. Pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin (IL)-1β play a crucial role in the pathogenesis, and IL-1 receptor antagonists have been regarded as the mainstay therapy. Endogenous tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α was found recently to be involved in the onset of the disease. Here, we report two Chinese children with CINCA syndrome who had elevated serum levels of TNF-α, with one carrying a novel mutation of c.1330T/G (p.444Phe/Val) in exon 3 of the NLRP3 gene. Anti-TNF-α (etanercept) therapy successfully alleviated both clinical symptoms and systemic inflammation after 6 months. These results suggest the complexity of the mechanisms of the disease and that TNF-α blockade will broaden the therapeutic approach for a subset of patients.

A new porphyrin complex, Mn(TBrPP)(DMF) (1) (H2TBrPP = meso-tetra(4-bromophenyl)porphyrin), has been obtained and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The title complex is composed of Mn(TBrPP)(DMF) units, which are connected by multiform hydrogen bonds leading to a 3D supramolecular network structure. Furthermore, we investigated the properties of the compound by means of UV-vis spectra, infrared spectra, fluorescence spectra and cyclic voltammetry. These studies indicate that the substituent and metal ion have much effect on the properties of porphyrin compounds.

The responsivity and the noise of a detector determine the sensitivity. Thermal energy usually affects both the responsivity and the noise spectral density. In this work, the noise characteristics and responsivity of an antenna-coupled AlGaN/GaN high-electron-mobility-transistor (HEMT) terahertz detector are evaluated at temperatures elevated from 300 K to 473 K. Noise spectrum measurement and a simultaneous measurement of the source–drain conductance and the terahertz photocurrent allow for detailed analysis of the electrical characteristics, the photoresponse, and the noise behavior. The responsivity is reduced from 59 mA/W to 11 mA/W by increasing the detector temperature from 300 K to 473 K. However, the noise spectral density maintains rather constantly around 1–2 pA/Hz1/2 at temperatures below 448 K, above which the noise spectrum abruptly shifts from Johnson-noise type into flicker-noise type and the noise density is increased up to one order of magnitude. The noise-equivalent power (NEP) is increased from 22 pW/Hz1/2 at 300 K to 60 pW/Hz1/2 at 448 K mainly due to the reduction in mobility. Above 448 K, the NEP is increased up to 1000 pW/Hz1/2 due to the strongly enhanced noise. The sensitivity can be recovered by cooling the detector back to room temperature.

Silica microspheres functionalized with 5-(4-allyloxy)phenyl-10,15,20-tri(p-sulfonatophenyl)porphyrin (APTSPP), SiO2-S-APTSPP, have been synthesized and characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and ultraviolet–visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS). The visible light photocatalytic activity of SiO2-S-APTSPP was demonstrated successfully for the photooxidation of 1,5-dihydroxynaphthalene (DHN) in water. Influencing factors such as amount of catalyst, pH value and the addition of NaN3 were studied in detail. This new heterogeneous catalyst is of high stability and reusability and can be reused several times without loss of its activity in the oxidation reactions.

Spinal paragonimiasis is a rare entity. We present a unique case of paragonimiasis involving the extradural space. MR imaging of the thoracic spine showed a bean-shaped extradural mass that extended through the left intervertebral foramen to paravertebral thickened pleura. This finding offers imaging evidence to support the theory that larvae of Paragonimus migrate through perivascular or perineural tissues into the extradural space. Another MRI finding was the hemorrhagic foci in the mass, which occurs frequently in the intracranial paragonimiasis and could also be a feature of the intraspinal paragonimiasis granuloma.

Three types of silica gel supported titanium dioxide particles immobilizing Zn(II) carboxylphenyl porphyrins appending p-CH3, p-H and p-Cl phenyl substituents (designated as ZnMP–TiO2–SiO2, ZnPP–TiO2–SiO2 and ZnCP–TiO2–SiO2, respectively) have been synthesized and characterized using SEM, XRD, IR, AFS, DRS, UV–Vis, XPS and TG. The photodegradation of α-terpinene in aqueous suspension was used to determine the photocatalytic activity of TiO2–SiO2 samples which had been impregnated with Zn(II) porphyrins, as sensitizers. The experimental results confirmed that the photocatalytic activitys of these composites are much higher than those of the nonmodified TiO2–SiO2 under visible light irradiation and follow the order of ZnMP–TiO2–SiO2 > ZnPP–TiO2–SiO2 > ZnCP–TiO2–SiO2.

In order to utilize visible light more efficiently in the photocatalytic reaction, microspheres sensitized by 5-(4-allyloxy)phenyl-10,15,20-tri(4-methylphenyl)porphyrin (APTMPP) were prepared and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), nitrogen physisorption, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, and so forth, The characterization results indicated that APTMPP-MPS- was composed of the anatase crystal phase. The morphology of the composite materials was spheriform with size of 0.3–0.7 μm and the porphyrin was chemisorbed on the surface of through a Si–O–Ti bond. The photooxidation ofα-terpinene was employed as the model reaction to evaluate the photocatalytic activity of APTMPP-MPS- microspheres under visible light. The results indicated that the photodegradation ofα-terpinene was significantly enhanced in the presence of the APTMPP-MPS- compared with the nonmodified under visible light.

Three types of silica microspheres immobilizing Mn(III) porphyrins appending p-CH3, p-H and p-Cl phenyl substituents (designated as MnMP-S-SiO2, MnPP-S-SiO2 and MnCP-S-SiO2, respectively) have been synthesized and characterized using SEM, IR, UV-vis and TG. The SEM images show that the morphology of the silica microspheres is spheriform with ca. 2–4 μm diameter. The catalytic performances of various supported biomimetic catalysts for the hydroxylation of cyclohexane in the presence of molecular oxygen under mild conditions have been investigated and compared detailedly. The experimental results confirmed that the catalytic efficiencies of these silica microspheres are much higher than those of the free Mn(III) porphyrin analogues and follow the order of MnMP-S-SiO2 > MnPP-S-SiO2 > MnCP-S-SiO2. All these results indicate that the grafting particles can not only protect metalloporphyrin from oxidation, but also promote it to activate O2. They are mild, reusable and highly efficient heterogeneous catalyst for the epoxidation of cyclohexene. The effect of substituent groups was also discussed.

A novel helical-chain coordination polymer [Co(tau)2(4,4′-bipy)]n·nH2O 1 (tau = taurine, 4,4′-bipy = 4,4′-bipyridine) has been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by infrared spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis, magnetic measurements, solid-state CD spectra and single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The intertwist trigonal-fold helical chains are further connected through hydrogen bonds to give a three-dimensional supramolecular network, in which trigonal microporous channels filled with water guest molecules exist within the polymer coils. Compound 1 shows weak antiferromagnetic interactions among metal ions.

On the basis of synthesis of styrene–hydroxyethyl methacrylate copolymer microspheres with a functionalized hydroxyl, we have prepared a new type of copolymer microspheres immobilized porphyrinatomanganese(III), P(St-co-HEMA)MnP, by a condensation reaction between a hydroxyl in copolymer microspheres surface and a carboxyl in porphyrin ring. The obtained copolymer catalyst (P(St-co-HMEA)MnP) was characterized by SEM, UV–vis, IR, ICP and TG–DTG. The SEM image shows that the morphology of the copolymer catalyst is spheriform with ca. 4 μm diameter. The catalytic activity of P(St-co-HMEA)MnP to epoxidize cyclohexene in the presence of molecular oxygen and isobutylaldehyde has been studied. The catalytic efficiency of P(St-co-HMEA)MnP is comparable to that of non-supported MnCMPTTP. It is a mild, reusable and highly efficient heterogeneous catalyst for the epoxidation of cyclohexene.

A series of tetranuclear Mo(W)-Ag mixed-metal clusters have been synthesized by making use of the solid state reactions of [NH4]2[MYS3](M= Mo, W; Y= O, S), AgX(X= Cl, Br, I) and (n-Bu)4NX' (X' =Cl, Br), two of which [(n-Bu)4N]3[MoOS3Ag3Br4] (1) and [(n-Bu)4N]3[WS4Ag3Cl4] (2) have been structurally characterized by X-ray analysis. The crystal data: 1, cubic, P43m, αequals;12.093(4) A, Z=1, R =0.076; 2, cubic, P43m, αequals;12.059(2) A, Z =1, R =0.075. The cluster anion core [Ag3MS3X'] of the two compounds can be viewed as a cube in which the four metal atoms and the four non-metal atoms are statistically distributed, respectively. Substitution reaction with PPh3 ligand is also discussed for this type of tetranuclear clusters.

Two new styrene-hydroxyethyl methacrylate copolymers containing immobilized porphyrinatomanganese(III) were prepared and characterized as microspheres by SEM, UV–Vis, FT-IR, and TG-DTG. Their catalytic activities have been investigated for the hydroxylation of cyclohexane in the presence of molecular oxygen under mild conditions. The copolymer microspheres proved to be more efficient catalysts than the corresponding non-supported porphyrinatomanganese(III) complex. The alkylated polymer microspheres with porphyrinatomanganese(III) had the highest catalytic activity, which may be attributable to the hydrophobic microenvironment around the porphyrinatomanganese(III) centers, resulting from the alkyl groups.

Three types of novel silica-metalloporphyrins hybrid materials, Si-S-APTCPPFe, Si-S-APTCPPMn and Si-S-APTCPPCo, were prepared at room temperature by sol–gel method involving a thiol-ene polymerization reaction of 5-(4-allyloxy)phenyl-10,15,20-tri(4-chlorophenyl)porphyrin (APTCPP) with 3-mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane (MPS). The hybrid materials were characterized by XRD, SEM, FT–IR, UV–Vis and TG, and were investigated as catalysts for the aerobic oxidation of cyclohexane. It is found that these hybrid materials are more efficient catalysts than the analogous non-supported metalloporphyrins for cyclohexane hydroxylation in metalloporphyrin–O2–ascrobate system and the metal ion in the porphyrins significantly affected the catalytic efficiencies of these hybrid materials.

The photodegradation of 1,5-dihydroxynaphthalene catalyzed by meso-tetra(4-sulfonatophenyl)porphyrin (H2TPPS4−) under visible light irradiation in aerated aqueous solution has been studied and the main product has been identified as 5-hydroxy-1,4-naphthoquinone. It is found that the photodegradation is dependent on the pH of reaction system and the addition of sodium azide (NaN3) leads to a significant decrease in the degree of 1,5-dihydroxynaphthalene photodegradation. The species distribution of H2TPPS4− in solution was obtained from potentiometric titration experiments. It is suggested that the mono-protonated monomeric species [H(H2TPPS)]3− is the main active species of H2TPPS4− to catalyze 1,5-dihydroxynaphthalene photodegradation.

The density functional theory (DFT) is used to calculate magnetic coupling constants and electronic absorption spectra of binuclear copper (II) complexes. The calculated results show that the increase in electronegativity of the terminal ligands can weaken the antiferromagnetic interaction, and can make the maximum absorption wavelength red-shift. In addition, the influence of conjugate structure between magnetic center and bridging atom on magnetic coupling interactions and electronic absorption spectra has also been analyzed. The calculated results may be useful as theoretical references for synthesis of the new functional complex and the molecular assembly analysis.

Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate in vivo magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for tracking the magnetically labeled mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) transplanted into rat liver through hepatic arterial injection. Materials and Methods MSCs, harvested from the bone marrow of Wistar rats and expanded by the adhesion method, were labeled with both Feridex and 4′,6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI). Cell transplantation was performed by injection of 1 × 106 labeled cells (n = 20) or unlabeled cells (n = 10) via hepatic artery into rat livers treated with 2% carbon tetrachloride to induce acute liver necrosis. MR imaging was performed on a clinical 1.5 T MR scanner with a T2*-weighted gradient-echo sequence immediately before and at 1 h, 3 days, 7 days and 14 days after transplantation, and the signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) were measured in liver, spleen, kidney and muscle. After MR examination, the animals were sacrificed, and the liver, kidney, lung and muscle were prepared for fluorescence observation and Prussian Blue staining. Results In the group treated with labeled cells, the SNR of the liver after cell transplantation was 3.12 ± 0.43 at 1 h, 7.98 ± 1.05 at 3 days and 11.46 ± 1.41 at 7 days. These values were significantly lower than the pre-transplantation SNR (14.40 ± 0.37). In the group treated with unlabeled cells, no significant difference could be found between after and before transplantation liver SNRs. Prussian Blue staining showed iron particles, contained within the cytoplasm and distributed in the liver parenchyma, which corresponded to the DAPI-stained fluorescent nuclei under the fluorescence microscope. Conclusion The magnetically labeled MSCs transplanted into rat liver through hepatic arterial injection can be detected and monitored in vivo with a 1.5 T clinical MR scanner for up to 7 days after cell transplantation. In the title compound, [Co(C2H6NO3S)(C12H8N2)2]ClO4·H2O, the two independent complex octa­hedral cations in the asymmetric unit are linked by N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds into a chain that propagates along b. The perchlorate anions and disordered uncoordinated water mol­ecules, two of each in the asymmetric unit, are situated in the voids between the chains, and probably inter­act with them by way of hydrogen bonds.

In the title complex, [Ni(C10H7NO4)(H2O)3]·H2O, a mononuclear nickel(II) compound, the NiII atom is six-coordinated in an octa­hedral geometry by the imine N, the phenolate O and a carboxyl O atom from the tridentate Schiff base ligand, and by three O atoms from three coordinated water mol­ecules. In the crystal structure, the mol­ecules are linked through inter­molecular O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional framework.

In the polymeric title compound, {[Cu(C10H7NO5)(C5H5N)]·H2O}n, the Cu atom adopts square-based pyramidal coordination involving the tridentate N,O,O′-chelated dianionic ligand, a pyridine N atom and an apical, bridging, carboxyl­ate O atom from an adjacent ligand. This results in helical chains propagating along the b axis of the monoclinic unit cell.

In the title controsymmetric dimeric copper(II) compound, [Cu2(C10H7NO4)2(H2O)2], the CuII ion is five-coordinated in a square-pyramidal configuration, with one imine N atom, one phenolate O atom, one carboxylate O atom of the Schiff base and one O atom of a coordinated water mol­ecule defining the basal plane, and the phenolate O atom of another Schiff base occupying the apical position. The CuII atoms are bridged by two phenolic O atoms, with a Cu⋯Cu distance of 3.250 (4) A. In the crystal structure, the mol­ecules are linked through inter­molecular O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming chains running along the b axis.

The hydro­thermal reaction of Ni(NO3)2·2H2O, KOH and taurine produced the title compound, K[Ni(C2H6NSO3)3]. The NiII atom is chelated by the three taurinate ligands in a deformed octa­hedral geometry and in a facial manner. Each taurinate ligand bridges two K+ ions via its sulfonate group, forming a three-dimensional framework.

The dimeric mol­ecule of the hydro­thermally synthesized binuclear complex [Cu2(C2H6NO3S)2(ClO4)2(C10H8N2)2], a tauride complex, occupies a special position on an inversion centre. The Cu atom has a severely distorted octahedral coordination, with four short and two substantially longer bonds. The four short bonds involve two bi­pyridine and one taurine N atoms [Cu—Nbipyridine = 1.990 (3) and 2.025 (3) A, Cu—Ntaurine = 1.992 (3) A] as well as one of the taurine O atoms [Cu—O = 1.964 (3) A]. The second taurine O atom belonging to the second bridging mol­ecule forms a much longer Cu—O bond [2.363 (4) A], and the perchlorate O atom participates in the longest Cu—O bond [2.675 (3) A]. The mol­ecules are linked via N—H⋯O bonds into infinite chains running along the a axis of the crystal structure.

Reaction of [NH4]2[WS4] with CuX (X = Cl or I) and R4NX (R = Et or n-Bu) in the solid state gave two new bimetallic compounds with W:Cu compositions from 1:3 to 1:4. Compound (1), [(n-Bu)4N]3[WS4Cu3Cl3Br], crystallizes in the hexagonal space group R3c with a = 17.051(5), c = 38.372(5) A, V = 9661.8 A3, Z = 6. The cluster anion of (1) comprises a cubane-like cluster core [WS3Cu3Br] of C3 symmetry with a Cl atom attached to each of the three Cu atoms and one terminal sulphido ligand attached to the W atom. Compound (2), [Et4N]4[WS4Cu4I6], crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C2/m with a = 29.702(6), b = 12.7887(5), c = 15.327(3)A, β = 99.69(2)∘, V = 5738.1 A3, Z = 4. In the cluster anion of (2), four edges of the WS4 core are coordinated by four Cu atoms, giving a WS4Cu4 aggregate of approximate C2V symmetry.

To trace magnetically labeled MSCs transplanted into the rat livers by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).Feridex and DAPI labeled rat mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) were injected via portal veins into carbon tetrachloride treated rats. MRI was performed with a clinical 1.5 T MRI machine immediately before the MSCs injection and at h 1, d 3, d 7, and d 14 after the injection, and then the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) was measured. MRI findings were compared with the liver histopathologies after the slides were stained with fluorescence dye and Prussian blue.The SNR for liver was 1.10+/-0.26 at hour 1, 8.18+/-1.55 at day 3, 11.08+/-1.30 at day 7, and 14.15+/-1.02 at day 14 respectively. Within 7 days after the MSCs transplantation, the SNRs of the livers were significantly lower than those before the transplantation (P less than 0.05). Histologically, the blue fluorescent particles under the fluorescence microscopy matched in distribution with the iron particles on the Prussian blue stained slides.The magnetically labeled MSCs transplanted into livers give rise to an obvious signal decrease, and can be tracked with a 1.5 T clinical MRI machine for up to 7 days after MSCs transplantation.

In the polymeric title compound, [[Cu(C(10)H(7)NO(5))(H(2)O)].H(2)O](n), the Cu atom adopts a square-based pyramidal coordination involving a N,O,O'-tridentate glycine dianionic ligand, a water O atom and an apical bridging carboxylate O atom from an adjacent ligand. The title compound also adopts a carboxylate-bridged chain structure. The molecular chain propagates in a helical fashion along the b axis of the monoclinic unit cell. Neighbouring chains are linked together to form a three-dimensional network via hydrogen-bonding interactions between coordinated and uncoordinated water molecules and O atoms of the bridging carboxylate groups.

A novel and robust approach to controllable porphyrin assembly is developed at the oil–aqueous interface by tuning the receding of three-phase contact line of droplet template. The assembled morphologies (ring–, wheel–, and hole–shell shape), aggregate modes and crystal states of porphyrin molecules can be effectively tailored by modulating the receding behavior of three-phase contact line, which can be realized by varying the hysteresis behavior of substrate or solvent ratios. The developed method for tailored porphyrin assembly will offer an important insight for the design and creation of novel structures.

Background: A hyperdense line on the ilium that runs roughly parallel to the sacroiliac joint (we called it “iliac hyperdense line sign”) was frequently observed on pelvic radiographs of patients with gluteal muscle contracture (GMC). A literature search revealed no description of this sign. Objective: To determine the relationship between the iliac hyperdense line sign and GMC and to explore how this sign is formed. Materials and methods: Pelvic plain films of 103 cases of GMC and those of 200 control individuals were reviewed for the presence or absence of the iliac hyperdense line sign. Pelvic CT scans in 8 of 103 cases and 13 of 200 controls were analyzed with relation to the plain films. Results: The iliac hyperdense line sign was visualized in 85 of 103 (82.5%) cases of GMC and none of the 200 controls. In the GMC group, pelvic CT scans showed a deformity of the posterior ilium. The lateral cortex of the posterior ilium took on a partly or completely anteroposterior course, while in the control group the course appeared as an oblique orientation from posteromedial to anterolateral. Conclusion: The iliac hyperdense line on pelvic plain film can be used as a radiographic sign to suggest a diagnosis of GMC. This sign might be a result of the long and persistent pulling effect of the contracted gluteus maximus muscle, which deforms the lateral cortex of the posterior ilium from an oblique course to an anteroposterior course tangential to the X-ray beam.

The title polymeric compound, {[Zn(C10H7NO5)(H2O)]·H2O}n, consists of a one-dimensional chain, in which the Zn2+ centre is coordinated by two O atoms and one N atom from the tridentate dianionic N-(3-carb­oxy-2-oxidobenzyl­idene)glycinate ligand, one water mol­ecule and a bridging carboxyl­ate O atom from an adjacent ligand. This results in a square-based pyramidal coordination.

The deprotonated Schiff-base dianion in the title compound, [Ni(C11H9NO4)(H2O)3]·H2O, occupies the meridional sites of the NiO5N octa­hedron. The neutral complex mol­ecule inter­acts with the uncoordinated water mol­ecule by way of O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds to give rise to a three-dimensional network. The ethylidene part of the molecule is disordered over two positions in a 0.74:0.26 ratio.

The title compound, C10H12BrNO3, exists as a zwitterion in the solid state; the delocalized –CO2 unit carries the negative charge and the secondary N atom carries the positive charge.

In the title polymeric complex, [Ni(C(2)H(6)NO(3)S)(2)](n), the Ni(II) ion occupies a special position on an inversion centre and displays a slightly distorted octa-hedral coordination geometry, being linked to four sulfonate O atoms and to two N atoms of the taurine ligands. The sulfonate groups doubly bridge symmetry-related Ni(II) centers, forming polymeric chains along the a axis.

The Mn atom in the title compound, [Mn(C10H7NO4)(H2O)3]·H2O, adopts an octa­hedral geometry owing to N,O,O′-tridentate chelation by the planar dianionic ligand. Intermolecular hydrogen bonds form a three-dimensional framework.
