Nowadays, ferroelectric photovoltaic synapses have attracted great attention due to its polarization controllable and self-powered features. However, the large bandgaps of ferroelectric oxide materials limit its application. This study focuses on the enhancement of ferroelectric photovoltaic properties and the synaptic application of Bi2FeCrO6 (BFCO) device. It is found that the bandgap of BFCO can be modulated by Cr alloying, which causes its photovoltaic effect in the visible region to exceed that of BiFeO3 (BFO) significantly. The short-circuit current density (JSC) of BFCO device in the visible region increases by about 100 times than that of BFO. Furthermore, the polarization modulation and multi-states response are demonstrated by an external electric field. For BFCO ferroelectric photovoltaic synapse, long-term potentiation/depression (LTP/LTD) measurements show an excellent synaptic plasticity of the polarization modulation. The simulated image recognition rate using the MNIST dataset reaches a high accuracy of 96.06%. Changes in temperature during reactor operation may cause changes in physical parameters, leading to core overheating and accidents. It is essential to analyze and assess the safety parameters of the core under different operating conditions. This paper investigates the effects of fuel temperature, moderator density, boron concentration, and control rod state on AP1000 safety parameters. The study uses RMC and NJOY to calculate the changes in reactivity factor, effective delayed neutron fraction, and neutron generation time of the AP1000 reactor under different operating conditions. The changes in reactivity coefficients, neutron fluxes, and relative power densities of AP1000 reactors are analyzed for normal and accidental operating conditions. The results indicated that the reactivity coefficient remained negative under accident conditions, which ensured the safe operation of the reactor. The delayed neutron fraction, neutron flux, and power density distributions are affected by fuel temperature, moderator density, and control rod position. The control rod worth was sufficient for the emergency shutdown of the reactor under accidental conditions. Based on commercial CFD software, a 700 °C ultra-supercritical tangential boiler was simulated by the orthogonal test method, and the thermal deviation of flue gas at the furnace outlet section was used as the optimization index. Three horizontal optimization treatments are designed respectively for the air distribution mode of secondary air (factor A), the reverse tangent angle of the separate over-fire air (factor B), and the upper swing angle of the burner (factor C). The range analysis method, variance analysis method, and weight matrix analysis method are used to determine the factor and level combination of the best optimization effect and the weight of each factor. The research results show that the significance of the influence of each factor on the optimization index is: B > C > A (reverse tangent angle of the separate over-fire air > the upper swing angle of the burner > the secondary air distribution mode); the weight ratios of the three factors are: factor A is 0.080, factor B is 0.543, and factor C is 0.241; based on the three analysis methods, it is concluded that factor B has a highly significant impact on the optimization index, factor C has an impact on the optimization index, and factor A has no impact on the optimization index, and it is determined that the optimal factor and level combination of the orthogonal test is A1B3C3. Under this combination, the thermal deviation in the furnace is 1.349 K, and the problem of thermal deviation is basically eliminated, being 116.066 K lower than the highest thermal deviation of 117.415 K, which is very obvious. In order to study the evolution process and hydraulic characteristics of pressurizer insurge in CPR1000 pressurized water reactor (PWR), the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) of three-dimensional unsteady heat transfer was used to capture the temperature and velocity fluctuation intensity of the mixing of the hot and cold. The results show that Realizable k–ε Turbulence Model combined with VOF multiphase heat transfer model can effectively predict the development trend of pressurizer insurge process. The small diameter pressurizer surge line of CPR1000 enhances the intensity of velocity fluctuation. From the essence of flow and heat transfer, it is concluded that buoyancy force can increase the degree of fluctuation and make an accelerated effect on the influx cold fluid. The electric heater inside the pressurizer should be arranged as far as possible in z<-0.45m and z>0.45m; it is beneficial to improve its harsh operating environment. It has been reported that tendon-derived stem cells(TDSCs) conduce to the ostosis in tendon diseases, and the molecular mechanism needs to be discussed. To investigate the function and mechanism of LncRNA in tendinopathy. Tendon of tendinopathy patients and health controls were obtained, and sequencing analysis have been performed to detect the significantly expressed genes and non-coding RNAs. Moreover, to further discuss LncRNA AC108925 in tendinopathy, tendinopathy animal models have been established, and the expression of LncRNA AC108925 expression was examined by RT-qPCR methods. Furthermore, hTDSCs have been treated by osteogenic medium, and the modulating function of LncRNA AC108925 on the osteoblast differentiation of hTDSCs have been examined. Sequencing analysis showed that AC108925 a dramatically elevated LncRNA, and results of animal and cells studies confirmed the finding. Knockdown AC108925 inhibited the osteogenic differentiation of osteogenic medium treated TDSCs by decreasing the expression of osteogenic markers. Furthermore, miR-146a-3p is a target of AC108925 in TDSCs, and miR-146a-3p is a negative modulator of osteogenic differentiation of hTDSCs by inhibiting the effects of AC108925 shRNA on osteogenic differentiation of hTDSCs. An efficient Ag2CO3-promoted sulfonylation of allyl/propargyl alcohols with sodium sulfinates has been developed. The reaction tolerates a wide range of functional groups to deliver γ-keto sulfones in high yields (up to 93 %). Abstract: Divergence during the early stage of speciation can be driven by a population bottleneck via reduced gene flow and enhanced lineage sorting. In this study, we aimed to examine whether such bottlenecks occurred during the initial speciation of two closely related spruce species Picea asperata and P. crassifolia occurring on the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau (QTP). We analyzed sequences of three chloroplast, two mitochondrial DNA fragments and a further 13 nuclear loci from 216 individuals of the two species. Both species showed a low level of genetic diversity in contrast to other congeners occurring in the QTP and adjacent regions. The estimated population sizes of P. asperata and P. crassifolia are less than the ancestral population size before splitting. These results together with multiple statistical tests (Tajima's D, Fu and Li's D* and F*) suggest that these two species underwent recent bottlenecks. Based on approximate Bayesian computation (ABC), we also determined that the period of the population shrinkage was consistent with the interspecific divergence during the late Pleistocene. The reduced population sizes and the divergent selection may together have triggered the initial divergence under high gene flow between these two species. Our results therefore highlight the importance of climatic oscillations during the late Pleistocene in promoting speciation through changing demographic sizes of the ancestral species on the QTP and in adjacent regions. • Many plant species comprising the present-day Arctic flora are thought to have originated in the high mountains of North America and Eurasia, migrated northwards as global temperatures fell during the late Tertiary period, and thereafter attained a circumarctic distribution. However, supporting evidence for this hypothesis that provides a temporal framework for the origin, spread and initial attainment of a circumarctic distribution by an arctic plant is currently lacking. • Here we examined the origin and initial formation of a circumarctic distribution of the arctic mountain sorrel (Oxyria digyna) by conducting a phylogeographic analysis of plastid and nuclear gene DNA variation. • We provide evidence for an origin of this species in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau of southwestern China, followed by migration into Russia c. 11 million yr ago (Ma), eastwards into North America by c. 4 Ma, and westwards into Western Europe by c. 1.96 Ma. Thereafter, the species attained a circumarctic distribution by colonizing Greenland from both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. • Following the arrival of the species in North America and Europe, population sizes appear to have increased and then stabilized there over the last 1 million yr. We investigate a two-way relay (TWR) fading channel where two source nodes wish to exchange information with the help of a relay node. Given traditional TWR protocols, transmission rates in both directions are known to be limited by the hop with lower capacity, i.e., the min operations between uplink and downlink. In this paper, we propose a new transmission protocol, called alternative awaiting and broadcast (AAB), to cancel the min operations in the TWR fading channels. The operational principles, a new upper bound on ergodic sum capacity (ESC), and a convergence behavior of the average delay of signal transmission (ST) (in the relay buffer) for the proposed AAB protocol are analyzed. Moreover, we propose a suboptimal encoding/decoding solution for the AAB protocol and derive an achievable ergodic sum rate (ESR) with a corresponding average delay of ST. Numerical results show that 1) the proposed AAB protocol significantly improves the achievable ESR compared with the traditional TWR protocols, and 2) considering the average delay of system service (SS) (in the source buffer), the average delay of ST induced by the proposed AAB protocol is very small and negligible. Partial decoding has the potential to achieve a larger capacity region than full decoding in two-way relay (TWR) channels. Existing partial decoding realizations are however designed for Gaussian channels and with a static physical layer network coding (PLNC). In this paper, we propose a new solution for joint network coding and channel decoding at the relay, called pairwise check decoding (PCD), for low-density parity-check (LDPC) coded TWR system over block fading channels. The main idea is to form a check relationship table (check-relation-tab) for the superimposed LDPC coded packet pair in the multiple access (MA) phase in conjunction with an adaptive PLNC mapping in the broadcast (BC) phase. Using PCD, we then present a partial decoding method, two-stage closest-neighbor clustering with PCD (TS-CNC-PCD), with the aim of minimizing the worst pairwise error probability. Moreover, we propose the minimum correlation optimization (MCO) for selecting the better check-relation-tabs. Abstract: The photocatalytic removal of phenol was studied using palygorskite-SnO2–TiO2 composites (abbreviated as Paly-SnO2–TiO2) under ultraviolet radiation. The photocatalysts were prepared by attachment of SnO2–TiO2 oxides onto the surface of the palygorskite by in situ sol–gel technique. The products were characterized by XRD, TEM and BET measurements. SnO2–TiO2 nanoparticles, with an average diameter of about 10nm, covered the surface of the palygorskite fibers without obvious aggregation. Compared with palygorskite-titania (Paly-TiO2), palygorskite-tin dioxide (Paly-SnO2), and Degussa P25, Paly-SnO2–TiO2 and SnO2–TiO2 exhibited much higher photocatalytic activity. The photodecomposition of phenol was as high as 99.8% within 1.5h. The apparent rate constants (k app) for Paly-SnO2–TiO2, TiO2, and P25 were measured. Paly-SnO2–TiO2 showed the highest rate constant (0.03435min−1). The chemical oxygen demand (COD) of the phenol solution was reduced from 220.2mg/L to 0.21mg/L, indicating the almost complete decomposition of phenol. Reusability of the photocatalyst was proved. To better understand the floral diversity and the phylogeny of the Swertiinae (Gentianaceae), the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of nrDNA for 17 species and one outgroup was sequenced. Our data suggest that corolla type, gland shape, and corolla appendage are poorly correlated with the ITS phylogeny. The genus Swertia s.l. and the rotate group previously recognized based on the corolla types and gland shapes are polyphyletic. Four genera with simple protruding glands and three taxa with corolla appendages are not clustered as the monophyletic groups. Four separate clades, corresponding to the four sections, were identified in Swertia s.l. Lomatogoniopsis with the simple protruding gland type of the tubular group closely related to Lomatogonium of the rotate group. The deeply lobing corolla and concave foveae may be ancestral in the Swertiinae, while the tubular corolla and the protruding glands may have undergone convergent evolution. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

• Based on CFD numerical simulation, the flue gas temperature deviation of boiler was studied by orthogonal test method. • Range analysis and weight matrix analysis were used to analyze the experimental results. • The CFD numerical simulation results were verified with the manufacturer's design values. In the present work, computational fluid dynamic (CFD) models have been established to investigate a newly presented flue gas temperature deviation solution on the basis of ANSYS FLUENT16.0 considering a 700 °C tangentially fired pulverized-coal boiler, which confronts with severe flue gas temperature deviation. Orthogonal test method was used to complete the optimization parameters with deflected secondary air swing angle (A), separated over-fire air reverse tangent angle (B), burner upward swing angle (C); and the thermal deviation at the outlet of the furnace as the performance index. The orthogonal test table L9(34) with three levels for each factor was designed. Using the range analysis method and the weight-based matrix analysis method respectively, the significance degree of the influence of different factors and levels on the deviation of the flue gas temperature at the furnace outlet was discussed, the optimal factor and level combination was determined, and the corresponding influence weights were given. It is found (1) Residual swirling flow in the upper furnace causes the flue gas velocity and temperature deviations in crossover pass. (2) The influence degree of various factors on the deviation of the flue gas at the furnace outlet is as follows: separated over-fire air reverse tangent angle > deflected secondary air swing angle > burner upward swing angle, the influence weights of different factors are A = 0.2184, B = 0.5962, C = 0.1560, and the best factor and level combination is A 1 B 3 C 2. (3) In this test, when the deflection secondary air angle is 0°, separated over-fire air reverse tangent angle is 25°, and the burner upward swing angle is 11°, the flue gas temperature deviation of the furnace outlet section is the minimum, which is 29.297 K, compared with the maximum, the decrease is up to 86.22 K. Parasitic plants have a heterotrophic lifestyle, in which they withdraw all or part of their nutrients from their host through the haustorium. Despite the release of many draft genomes of parasitic plants, the genome evolution related to the parasitism feature of facultative parasites remains largely unknown. In this study, we present a high‐quality chromosomal‐level genome assembly for the facultative parasite Pedicularis kansuensis (Orobanchaceae), which invades both legume and grass host species in degraded grasslands on the Qinghai‐Tibet Plateau. This species has the largest genome size compared with other parasitic species, and expansions of long terminal repeat retrotransposons accounting for 62.37% of the assembly greatly contributed to the genome size expansion of this species. A total of 42,782 genes were annotated, and the patterns of gene loss in P. kansuensis differed from other parasitic species. We also found many mobile mRNAs between P. kansuensis and one of its host species, but these mobile mRNAs could not compensate for the functional losses of missing genes in P. kansuensis. In addition, we identified nine horizontal gene transfer (HGT) events from rosids and monocots, as well as one single‐gene duplication events from HGT genes, which differ distinctly from that of other parasitic species. Furthermore, we found evidence for HGT through transferring genomic fragments from phylogenetically remote host species. Taken together, these findings provide genomic insights into the evolution of facultative parasites and broaden our understanding of the diversified genome evolution in parasitic plants and the molecular mechanisms of plant parasitism. The global expansion of photovoltaic (PV) power plants, especially in ecologically fragile regions like the Gobi Desert, highlights the suitability of such areas for large-scale PV development. The most direct impact of PV development in the Gobi Desert is temperature change that results from the land-use-induced albedo changes; however, the detailed and systemic understanding of the effects of PV expansion on land surface temperature remains limited. This study focuses on the 16 largest PV plants in the Chinese Gobi Desert, utilizing remote sensing data to assess their effects on land surface temperature. Our result showed a cooling effect during the daytime (−0.69 ± 0.10 °C), but a warming effect during the nighttime (0.23 ± 0.05 °C); the overall effect on the daily mean was a cooling effect (−0.22 ± 0.05 °C). Seasonal variations were observed, with the most significant cooling effect in autumn and the weakest in summer. The PV area was the most significant factor which influenced the temperature variation across PV plants. Our findings enrich our understanding of the environmental effects arising from the construction of PV plants and provide vital information for the design and management of increasingly renewable electricity systems globally. Integrated multifunctionality in visual information processing is crucial in the artificial intelligence era. Compared to the parallel human vision system, current bionic vision devices exhibit a complex structure with single functionality, challenging intelligent processing and integration. Here, a multisensory artificial synapse with a crossbar structure comprising graphene/α‐In2Se3/graphene layers is demonstrated, merging sensing, memory, and computing while mimicking various synaptic properties. The Schottky barrier height is modulated by the polarization of ferroelectric semiconductor α‐In2Se3, enabling reconfigurable device conductance and photoresponsivity. This conductance emulates synaptic short‐term and long‐term plasticity through electrical pulse modulation, boasting a rapid 40 ns programming speed. The device also exhibits linearly regulated photoresponsivity under illumination, with synaptic plasticity from optical pulses. The fusion of electronic and optoelectronic devices enables both image front‐end processing and advanced post‐processing. In‐sensor front‐end processing enhances subsequent processing efficiency, with pattern recognition accuracy reaching 97%. Understanding the underlying mechanisms and links between genome evolution and adaptive innovations stands as a key goal in evolutionary studies. Poplars, among the world's most widely distributed and cultivated trees, exhibit extensive phenotypic diversity and environmental adaptability. In this study, we present a genus-level super-pangenome comprising 19 Populus genomes, revealing the likely pivotal role of private genes in facilitating local environmental and climate adaptation. Through the integration of pangenomes with transcriptomes, methylomes, and chromatin accessibility mapping, we unveil that the evolutionary trajectories of pangenes and duplicated genes are closely linked to local genomic landscapes of regulatory and epigenetic architectures, notably CG methylation in gene-body regions. Further comparative genomic analyses have enabled the identification of 142 202 structural variants across species that intersect with a significant number of genes and contribute substantially to both phenotypic and adaptive divergence. We have experimentally validated a ∼180-bp presence/absence variant affecting the expression of the CUC2 gene, crucial for leaf serration formation. Finally, we developed a user-friendly web-based tool encompassing the multi-omics resources associated with the Populus super-pangenome (http://www.populus-superpangenome.com). Together, the present pioneering super-pangenome resource in forest trees not only aids in the advancement of breeding efforts of this globally important tree genus but also offers valuable insights into potential avenues for comprehending tree biology. Background: Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have emerged as key players in tumorigenesis and tumour progression. However, the biological functions and potential mechanisms of lncRNAs in colorectal cancer (CRC) are unclear. Methods: The novel lncRNA POU6F2-AS1 was identified through bioinformatics analysis, and its expression in CRC patients was verified via qRT–PCR and FISH. In vitro and in vivo experiments, such as BODIPY staining, Oil Red O staining, triglyceride (TAG) assays, and liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS) were subsequently performed with CRC specimens and cells to determine the clinical significance, and functional roles of POU6F2-AS1. Biotinylated RNA pull-down, RIP, Me-RIP, ChIP, and patient-derived organoid (PDO) culture assays were performed to confirm the underlying mechanism of POU6F2-AS1. Results: The lncRNA POU6F2-AS1 is markedly upregulated in CRC and associated with adverse clinicopathological features and poor overall survival in CRC patients. Functionally, POU6F2-AS1 promotes the growth and lipogenesis of CRC cells both in vitro and in vivo. Mechanistically, METTL3-induced m6A modification is involved in the upregulation of POU6F2-AS1. Furthermore, upregulated POU6F2-AS1 could tether YBX1 to the FASN promoter to induce transcriptional activation, thus facilitating the growth and lipogenesis of CRC cells. Conclusions: Our data revealed that the upregulation of POU6F2-AS1 plays a critical role in CRC fatty acid metabolism and might provide a novel promising biomarker and therapeutic target for CRC. Trees are vital to the survival of numerous species and to forest ecosystem functioning. However, the current distribution, vulnerability to extinction, and conservation priorities of globally endangered trees are not well known. We mapped the global distribution of 1686 tree species listed as endangered on the International Union for the Conservation of Nature Red List and identified conservation priority for them based on species richness, life‐history traits, evolutionary distinctiveness, future climate change, and intensity of human activities. We also evaluated the impacts of various threats to these endangered tree species and evaluated the effectiveness of their protection based on the percentage of the species' range inside protected areas. The worldwide distribution of endangered trees, from the tropics through temperate zones, was uneven. Most endangered tree species were not protected in their native ranges, and only 153 species were fully protected. Hotspots of tree diversity occurred primarily in the tropics, and 79.06% of these were highly vulnerable to threats. We identified 253 areas of high priority for the conservation of endangered trees that are highly threatened and insufficiently protected. In particular, 43.42% of unprotected tree species in priority areas lacked recommended conservation measures or had no associated conservation plan. The priority conservation areas and unprotected trees we identified serve as a guideline for future management underpinning the post‐2020 global biodiversity framework. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Despite the economic, ecological, and scientific importance of the genera Salix L. (willows) and Populus L. (poplars, cottonwoods, and aspens) Salicaceae, we know little about the sources of differences in species diversity between the genera and of the phylogenetic conflict that often confounds estimating phylogenetic trees. Salix subgenera and sections, in particular, have been difficult to classify, with one recent attempt termed a "spectacular failure" due to a speculated radiation of the subgenera Vetrix and Chamaetia. Here, we use targeted sequence capture to understand the evolutionary history of this portion of the Salicaceae plant family. Our phylogenetic hypothesis was based on 787 gene regions and identified extensive phylogenetic conflict among genes. Our analysis supported some previously described subgeneric relationships and confirmed the polyphyly of others. Using an f branch analysis, we identified several cases of hybridization in deep branches of the phylogeny, which likely contributed to discordance among gene trees. In addition, we identified a rapid increase in diversification rate near the origination of the Vetrix–Chamaetia clade in Salix. This region of the tree coincided with several nodes that lacked strong statistical support, indicating a possible increase in incomplete lineage sorting due to rapid diversification. The extraordinary level of both recent and ancient hybridization in both Salix and Populus have played important roles in the diversification and diversity in these two genera. Background and aims: Over-grazing have significantly altered above- and belowground functions in terrestrial ecosystem. However, the influence of grazing intensity on plant-soil stoichiometric relations in alpine ecosystems remains unclear. Methods: We investigated the responses of plant-soil nutrient stoichiometric relationships to four grazing intensities (un-grazing (UG), light grazing (LG), moderate grazing (MG) and heavy grazing (HG)) in an alpine meadow on the eastern Tibetan Plateau. We measured carbon (C), nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) concentrations and their ratios in plants and soils in the peak growing season after three years of yak-grazing. Results: Compared to UG and LG plots, heavier grazing intensity at community levels and taxonomic groups decreased plant C and K concentrations by 7.6–10.5% and 17.6–21.3%, respectively, while grazing did not significantly influence plant N and P concentrations. Grazing intensity altered plant C:N and C:P ratios but not C:K and N:P ratios. By contrast, grazing intensity had no significant effects on soil nutrients and stoichiometry. Thus, the differential responses of plant and soil nutrients to grazing intensity caused that plants were more sensitive to grazing than soils. Conclusions: Our results confirm that grazing intensity has differential effects on plant and soil nutrients, implying that plant nutrients do not covary with soil nutrients under changing grazing intensity and challenging the past positive relations between plant and soil nutrients. Subnival glasshouse plants provide a text-book example of high-altitude adaptation with reproductive organs enclosed in specialized semi-translucent bracts, monocarpic reproduction and continuous survival under stress. Here, we present genomic, transcriptomic and metabolomic analyses for one such plant, the Noble rhubarb (Rheum nobile). Comparative genomic analyses show that an expanded number of genes and retained genes from two recent whole-genome duplication events are both relevant to subnival adaptation of this species. Most photosynthesis genes are downregulated within bracts compared to within leaves, and indeed bracts exhibit a sharp reduction in photosynthetic pigments, indicating that the bracts no longer perform photosynthesis. Contrastingly, genes related to flavonol synthesis are upregulated, providing enhanced defense against UV irradiation damage. Additionally, anatomically abnormal mesophyll combined with the downregulation of genes related to mesophyll differentiation in bracts illustrates the innovation and specification of the glass-like bracts. We further detect substantial accumulation of antifreeze proteins (e.g. AFPs, LEAs) and various metabolites (e.g. Proline, Protective sugars, procyanidins) in over-wintering roots. These findings provide new insights into subnival adaptation and the evolution of glasshouse alpine plants. A chromosome-level genome assembly for the glasshouse plant Rheum nobile (noble rhubarb) combined with phylogenetic, transcriptomic, and metabolomic analyses provides insight into how alpine plants have adapted to growth in extreme environments. Speciation, the continuous process by which new species form, is often investigated by looking at the variation of nucleotide diversity and differentiation across the genome (hereafter genomic landscapes). A key challenge lies in how to determine the main evolutionary forces at play shaping these patterns. One promising strategy, albeit little used to date, is to comparatively investigate these genomic landscapes as progression through time by using a series of species pairs along a divergence gradient. Here, we resequenced 201 whole‐genomes from eight closely related Populus species, with pairs of species at different stages along the divergence gradient to learn more about speciation processes. Using population structure and ancestry analyses, we document extensive introgression between some species pairs, especially those with parapatric distributions. We further investigate genomic landscapes, focusing on within‐species (i.e. nucleotide diversity and recombination rate) and among‐species (i.e. relative and absolute divergence) summary statistics of diversity and divergence. We observe relatively conserved patterns of genomic divergence across species pairs. Independent of the stage across the divergence gradient, we find support for signatures of linked selection (i.e. the interaction between natural selection and genetic linkage) in shaping these genomic landscapes, along with gene flow and standing genetic variation. We highlight the importance of investigating genomic patterns on multiple species across a divergence gradient and discuss prospects to better understand the evolutionary forces shaping the genomic landscapes of diversity and differentiation. Long noncoding ribonucleic acids (lncRNAs) play crucial roles in regulating key biological processes; however, our knowledge of lncRNAs' roles in plant adaptive evolution is still limited. Here, we determined the divergence of conserved lncRNAs in closely related poplar species that were either tolerant or sensitive to salt stress by comparative transcriptome analysis. Among the 34,363 identified lncRNAs, ~3% were shared among poplar species with conserved sequences but diversified in their function, copy number, originating genomic region and expression patterns. Further cluster analysis revealed that the conserved lncRNAs showed more similar expression patterns within salt-tolerant poplars (Populus euphratica and P. pruinosa) than between salt-tolerant and salt-sensitive poplars. Among these lncRNAs, the antisense lncRNA lncERF024 was induced by salt and the differentiated expression between salt-sensitive and salt-tolerant poplars. The overexpression of lncERF024 in P. alba var. pyramidalis enhanced poplar tolerance to salt stress. Furthermore, RNA pull-down and RNA-seq analysis showed that numerous candidate genes or proteins associated with stress response and photosynthesis might be involved in salt resistance in PeulncERF024-OE poplars. Altogether, our study provided a novel insight into how the diversification of lncRNA expression contributes to plant adaptation traits and showed that lncERF024 may be involved in the regulation of both gene expression and protein function conferring salt tolerance in Populus. Establishing how lineages with similar traits are phylogenetically related remains critical for understanding the origin of biodiversity on Earth. Floral traits in plants are widely used to explore phylogenetic relationships and to delineate taxonomic groups. The subtribe Swertiinae (Gentianaceae) comprises more than 350 species with high floral diversity ranging from rotate to tubular corollas and possessing diverse nectaries. Here we performed phylogenetic analysis of 60 species from all 15 genera of the subtribe Swertiinae sensu Ho and Liu, representing the range of floral diversity, using data from the nuclear and plastid genomes. Extensive topological conflicts were present between the nuclear and plastome trees. Three of the 15 genera represented by multiple species are polyphyletic in both trees. Key floral traits including corolla type, absence or presence of lobe scales, nectary type, nectary position, and stigma type are randomly distributed in the nuclear and plastome trees without phylogenetic correlation. We also revealed the likely ancient hybrid origin of one large clade comprising 10 genera with diverse floral traits. These results highlight the complex evolutionary history of this subtribe. The phylogenies constructed here provide a basic framework for further exploring the ecological and genetic mechanisms underlying both species diversification and floral diversity. Angiosperms dominate the Earth's ecosystems and provide most of the basic necessities for human life. The major angiosperm clades comprise 64 orders, as recognized by the APG IV classification. However, the phylogenetic relationships of angiosperms remain unclear, as phylogenetic trees with different topologies have been reconstructed depending on the sequence datasets utilized, from targeted genes to transcriptomes. Here, we used currently available de novo genome data to reconstruct the phylogenies of 366 angiosperm species from 241 genera belonging to 97 families across 43 of the 64 orders based on orthologous genes from the nuclear, plastid, and mitochondrial genomes of the same species with compatible datasets. The phylogenetic relationships were largely consistent with previously constructed phylogenies based on sequence variations in each genome type. However, there were major inconsistencies in the phylogenetic relationships of the five Mesangiospermae lineages when different genomes were examined. We discuss ways to address these inconsistencies, which could ultimately lead to the reconstruction of a comprehensive angiosperm tree of life. The angiosperm phylogenies presented here provide a basic framework for further updates and comparisons. Summary: Salt and drought impair plant osmotic homeostasis and greatly limit plant growth and development. Plants decrease stomatal aperture to reduce water loss and maintain osmotic homeostasis, leading to improved stress tolerance. Herein, we identified the C2H2 transcription factor gene OSMOTIC STRESS INDUCED C2H21 (OSIC1) from Populus alba var. pyramidalis to be induced by salt, drought, polyethylene glycol 6000 (PEG6000) and abscisic acid (ABA). Overexpression of OSIC1 conferred transgenic poplar more tolerance to high salinity, drought and PEG6000 treatment by reducing stomatal aperture, while its mutant generated by the CRISPR/Cas9 system showed the opposite phenotype. Furthermore, OSIC1 directly up‐regulates PalCuAOζ in vitro and in vivo, encoding a copper‐containing polyamine oxidase, to enhance H2O2 accumulation in guard cells and thus modulates stomatal closure when stresses occur. Additionally, ABA‐, drought‐ and salt‐induced PalMPK3 phosphorylates OSIC1 to increase its transcriptional activity to PalCuAOζ. This regulation of OSIC1 at the transcriptional and protein levels guarantees rapid stomatal closure when poplar responds to osmotic stress. Our results revealed a novel transcriptional regulatory mechanism of H2O2 production in guard cells mediated by the OSIC1‐PalCuAOζ module. These findings deepen our understanding of how perennial woody plants, like poplar, respond to osmotic stress caused by salt and drought and provide potential targets for breeding. Kobresia pygmaea meadows are typical of Tibetan Plateau landscapes in the 3,000 to 5,500 m elevation range and constitute the most extensive alpine ecosystem in the world. Kobresia pygmaea forms turf mats that stabilize the surface and shelter the underlying soils from water erosion. Large tracts of the Plateau, however, exhibit signs of ongoing degradation of the turf and erosion of the underlying soil. Despite the crucial role played by K. pygmaea turf mats in the stabilization of the headwaters of major Asian rivers, the mechanisms responsible for their degradation remain poorly investigated. Here we develop a process-based model of land degradation of Tibetan Plateau slopes, which accounts for (i) turf cracking, (ii) water flow concentration in the cracks, (iii) crack widening by scouring, and (iv) sheet-flow erosion. As expected, soil erosion increases with the slope and drainage area (hence the observation of stronger erosion in relatively steep downhill sites). Model simulations indicate that with a sensible set of parameters representative of soil and hydrologic conditions in the region, Tibetan Plateau landscapes are vulnerable to turf mat degradation and soil erosion. As soon as polygonal cracks develop, water flow widens them until the landscape is completely barren. At this point sheet flow eventually erodes the mineral soil leaving behind a highly degraded landscape. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
