Quenching of star-formation plays a fundamental role in galaxy evolution. This process occurs due to the removal of the cold interstellar medium (ISM) or stabilization against collapse, so that gas cannot be used in the formation of new stars. In this paper, we study the effect of different mechanisms of ISM removal. In particular, we revised the well-known Baldwin-Philips-Terlevich (BPT) and $\mathrm{EW_{H\alpha}}$ vs. $\mathrm{[NII]/H\alpha}$ (WHAN) emission-line ratio diagnostics, so that we could classify all galaxies, even those not detected at some emission lines, introducing several new spectral classes. We use spectroscopic data and several physical parameters of 2409 dusty early-type galaxies in order to find out the dominant ionization source [active galactic nuclei (AGNs), young massive stars, hot low-mass evolved stars (HOLMES)] and its effect on the ISM. We find that strong AGNs can play a significant role in the ISM removal process only for galaxies with ages lower than $10^{9.4}$ yr, but we cannot rule out the influence of weak AGNs at any age. For older galaxies, HOLMES/planetary nebulae contribute significantly to the ISM removal process. Understanding how galaxies quench their star formation is crucial for studies of galaxy evolution. Quenching is related to the cold gas decrease. In the first paper we showed that the dust removal timescale in early-type galaxies (ETGs) is about 2.5 Gyr. Here we present carbon monoxide (CO) and 21 cm hydrogen (H I) line observations of these galaxies and measure the timescale of removal of the cold interstellar medium (ISM). We find that all the cold ISM components (dust, molecular and atomic gas) decline at similar rates. This allows us to rule out a wide range of potential ISM removal mechanisms (including starburst-driven outflows, astration, a decline in the number of asymptotic giant branch stars), and artificial effects like stellar mass-age correlation, environmental influence, mergers, and selection bias, leaving ionization by evolved low-mass stars and ionization/outflows by supernovae Type Ia or active galactic nuclei as viable mechanisms. We also provide evidence for an internal origin of the detected ISM. Moreover, we find that the quenching of star formation in these galaxies cannot be explained by a reduction in gas amount alone, because the star formation rates (SFRs) decrease faster (on a timescale of about 1.8 Gyr) than the amount of cold gas. Furthermore, the star formation efficiency of the ETGs (SFE = SFR/MH2) is lower than that of star-forming galaxies, whereas their gas mass fractions (fH2 = MH2/M*) are normal. Context. Extragalactic surveys are a key tool for better understanding the evolution of galaxies. Both deep and wide-field surveys serve to provide a clearer emerging picture of the physical processes that take place in and around galaxies, and to identify which of these processes are the most important in shaping the properties of galaxies. Aims. The Lockman Spectroscopic Redshift Survey using Osiris (Lockman-SpReSO) aims to provide one of the most complete optical spectroscopic follow-ups of the far-infrared (FIR) sources detected by the \textit{Herschel} Space Observatory in the Lockman Hole (LH) field. The optical spectroscopic study of the FIR-selected galaxies supplies valuable information about the relation between fundamental FIR and optical parameters, including extinction, star formation rate, and gas metallicity. In this article, we introduce and provide an in-depth description of the Lockman-SpReSO project and of its early results. Methods. We selected FIR sources from \textit{Herschel} observations of the central 24 arcmin $\times$ 24 arcmin of the LH field with an optical counterpart up to 24.5 $R_{\rm C}$(AB). The sample comprises 956 \textit{Herschel} FIR sources, plus 188 additional interesting objects in the field. These are point X-ray sources, cataclysmic variable star candidates, high-velocity halo star candidates, radio sources, very red quasi-stellar objects, and optical counterparts of sub-millimetre galaxies. The faint component of the catalogue ($R_{\rm C}(\mathrm{AB})\geq20$) was observed using the OSIRIS instrument on the 10.4 m Gran Telescopio Canarias in multi-object spectroscopy (MOS) mode. Results from the TESS mission showed that previous studies strngly underestimated the number of slow rotators, revealing the importance of studying those asteroids. For most slowly rotating asteroids (P > 12), no spin and shape model is available because of observation selection effects. This hampers determination of their thermal parameters and accurate sizes. We continue our campaign in minimising selection effects among main belt asteroids. Our targets are slow rotators with low light-curve amplitudes. The goal is to provide their scaled spin and shape models together with thermal inertia, albedo, and surface roughness to complete the statistics. Rich multi-apparition datasets of dense light curves are supplemented with data from Kepler and TESS. In addition to data in the visible range, we also use thermal data from infrared space observatories (IRAS, Akari and WISE) in a combined optimisation process using the Convex Inversion Thermophysical Model (CITPM). This novel method has so far been applied to only a few targets, and in this work we further validate the method. We present the models of 16 slow rotators. All provide good fits to both thermal and visible data. The obtained sizes are on average accurate at the 5% precision, with diameters in the range from 25 to 145 km. The rotation periods of our targets range from 11 to 59 hours, and the thermal inertia covers a wide range of values, from 2 to <400 SI units, not showing any correlation with the period. With this work we increase the sample of slow rotators with reliable spin and shape models and known thermal inertia by 40%. Off-centered spots of the enhanced gas velocity dispersion, s, are revealed in some galaxies from the MaNGA survey. Aiming to clarify the origin of the spots of enhanced s, we examine the distributions of the surface brightness, the line-of-sight velocity, the oxygen abundance, the gas velocity dispersion, and the BPT spaxel classification in seven galaxies. We find that the enhanced s spots in six galaxies can be attributed to a (minor) interaction with a satellite. Three galaxies in our sample have a very close satellite. The spots of enhanced s in those galaxies are located at the edge of the galaxy close to the satellite. The spots of enhanced s in three other galaxies are related to bright spots in the photometric B band within the galaxy, which can be due to the projection of a satellite in the line of sight of the galaxy. The oxygen abundances in the spots in these three galaxies are reduced. This suggests that the low-metallicity gas from the satellite is mixed with the interstellar medium of the disk. The spectra of the spaxels within a spot are usually HII-region-like, suggesting that the interaction in those galaxies does not result in appreciable shocks. In contrast, the spot of the enhanced s in the galaxy M-8716-12703 is associated with an off-centered AGN-like radiation distribution. One can suggest that the spot of the enhanced s in the M-8716-12703 galaxy is different in origin, or that the characteristics of gas infall in this case differs from that in other galaxies., Comment: 25 pages, 22 figures, accepted to AA

With an estimated diameter in the 320 to 350 km range, (704) Interamnia is the fifth largest main belt asteroid and one of the few bodies that fills the gap in size between the four largest bodies with $D$ > 400 km (Ceres, Vesta, Pallas and Hygiea) and the numerous smaller bodies with $D$ $\lesssim$ 200 km. However, despite its large size, little is known about the shape and spin state of Interamnia and, therefore, about its bulk composition and past collisional evolution. We aimed to test at what size and mass the shape of a small body departs from a nearly ellipsoidal equilibrium shape (as observed in the case of the four largest asteroids) to an irregular shape as routinely observed in the case of smaller ($D$ $\lesssim$ 200 km) bodies. We observed Interamnia as part of our ESO VLT/SPHERE large program (ID: 199.C-0074) at thirteen different epochs. In addition, several new optical lightcurves were recorded. These data, along with stellar occultation data from the literature, were fed to the All-Data Asteroid Modeling (ADAM) algorithm to reconstruct the 3D-shape model of Interamnia and to determine its spin state. Interamnia's volume-equivalent diameter of 332 $\pm$ 6 km implies a bulk density of $\rho$=1.98 $\pm$ 0.68 gcm$^{-3}$ , which suggests that Interamnia - like Ceres and Hygiea - contains a high fraction of water ice, consistent with the paucity of apparent craters. Our observations reveal a shape that can be well approximated by an ellipsoid, and that is compatible with a fluid hydrostatic equilibrium at the 2 $\sigma$ level. The rather regular shape of Interamnia implies that the size and mass limit, under which the shapes of minor bodies with a high amount of water ice in the subsurface become irregular, has to be searched among smaller ($D$ $\lesssim$ 300km) less massive ($m$ $\lesssim$ 3x10$^{19}$ kg) bodies., Comment: Accepted for publication in Astronomy and Astrophysics

We present a new non-convex model of the binary asteroid (809) Lundia. A SAGE (Shaping Asteroids with Genetic Evolution) method using disc-integrated photometry only was used for deriving physical parameters of this binary system. The model of (809) Lundia improves former system's pole solution and gives the ecliptic coordinates of the orbit pole - $\lambda=122^{\circ}$, $\beta=22^{\circ}$, $\sigma=\pm5^{\circ}$ - and the orbital period of $15.41574 \pm 0.00001$ h. For scaling our results we used effective diameter of $D_{eff} = 9.6 \pm 1.1$ km obtained from Spitzer observations. The non-convex shape description of the components permitted a refined calculation of the components' volumes, leading to a density estimation of $2.5\pm0.2$ g/cm$^3$ and macroporosity of 13-23\%. The intermediate-scale features of the model may also offer new clues on the components' origin and evolution.

Physical studies of asteroids depend on an availability of lightcurve data. Targets that are easy to observe and analyse naturally have more data available, so their synodic periods are confirmed from multiple sources. Also, thanks to availability of data from a number of apparitions, their spin and shape models can often be obtained. Almost half of bright (H<=11 mag) main-belt asteroid population with known lightcurve parameters have rotation periods considered long (P>12 hours) and are rarely chosen for photometric observations. There is a similar selection effect against asteroids with low lightcurve amplitudes (a_max<=0.25 mag). As a result such targets, though numerous in this brightness range, are underrepresented in the sample of spin and shape modelled asteroids. In the range of fainter targets such effects are stronger. These selection effects can influence what is now known about asteroid spin vs. size distribution, on asteroid internal structure and densities and on spatial orientation of asteroid spin axes. To reduce both biases at the same time, we started a photometric survey of a substantial sample of those bright main-belt asteroids that displayed both features: periods longer than 12 hours, and amplitudes that did not exceed 0.25 magnitude. First we aim at finding synodic periods of rotation, and after a few observed apparitions, obtaining spin and shape models. As an initial result of our survey we found that a quarter of the studied sample (8 out of 34 targets) have rotation periods different from those widely accepted. We publish here these newly found period values with the lightcurves. The size/frequency plot might in reality look different in the long-period range. Context. The so-called Barbarian asteroids share peculiar, but common polarimetric properties, probably related to both their shape and composition. They are named after (234) Barbara, the first on which such properties were identified. As has been suggested, large scale topographic features could play a role in the polarimetric response, if the shapes of Barbarians are particularly irregular and present a variety of scattering/incidence angles. This idea is supported by the shape of (234) Barbara, that appears to be deeply excavated by wide concave areas revealed by photometry and stellar occultations. Aims. With these motivations, we started an observation campaign to characterise the shape and rotation properties of Small Main- Belt Asteroid Spectroscopic Survey (SMASS) type L and Ld asteroids. As many of them show long rotation periods, we activated a worldwide network of observers to obtain a dense temporal coverage. Methods. We used light-curve inversion technique in order to determine the sidereal rotation periods of 15 asteroids and the con- vergence to a stable shape and pole coordinates for 8 of them. By using available data from occultations, we are able to scale some shapes to an absolute size. We also study the rotation periods of our sample looking for confirmation of the suspected abundance of asteroids with long rotation periods. Results. Our results show that the shape models of our sample do not seem to have peculiar properties with respect to asteroids with similar size, while an excess of slow rotators is most probably confirmed.
