The purpose of this note is to apply recent results on stabilization of networked control systems to obtain an explicit formula for the maximum allowable sampling period (MASP) that guarantees stability of a nonlinear sampled-data system with an emulated controller. Such formulas are of great value to control practitioners. Index Terms--Emulation, nonlinear systems, sampled-data, stability.

In many applications, an uncompressed source stream is systematically encoded by a channel code (which ignores the source redundancy) for transmission over a discrete memoryless channel. The decoder knows the channel and the code but does not know the source statistics. This paper proposes several universal channel decoders that take advantage of the source redundancy without requiring prior knowledge of its statistics. Computer Experience (CE) has been defined as a bi-dimensional construct consisting of a quantitative Objective Computer (OCE) Experience and a qualitative Subjective Computer (SCE) Experience. Measurement of each construct has been discussed, but only SCE has had a scale published. Its construction, however, did not seem to be connected to its definition, nor was it differentiated from similar attitudinal measures such as self-efficacy or anxiety. We discuss the definition of SCE and factors differentiating SCE from similar constructs. We also present a statistically validated measure of SCE, and provide future research directions for the CE stream of research. VMNet, a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) emulator for realistic performance assessment is described which emulates and logs the operations of each part in a sensor mote at the level of CPU clock cycles. The application performance with reference to response time and power consumption is reasonably well as compared to real WSNs, TOSSIM and PowerTOSSIM.

Hardware data emulators are used to deploy a large-scale model of the ATLAS data acquisition architecture. The emulators, based on FPGAs and on the Alteon gigabit Ethernet NIC, are described, and their performance determined.
