Türklerin kendi yarattıkları ve devraldıkları fiziksel çevreye karşı gerek koruma gerekse de ilmî veya edebî metinlerle var olan birikimi gelecek kuşaklara aktarma deneyimi açısından başarılı oldukları söylenemez. Bu iddianın Orta Çağ’dan günümüze dereceleri farklı da olsa, en azından İslâm sanatları yazımı bağlamında devam ettiğini söylemek mümkündür. Sözgelimi yaşadığı 13. yüzyıl Konya’sında, temel hafriyatından tamamlanışına kadar pek çok mimari eserin inşasından haberdar olduğunu varsaydığımız Mevlânâ’nın bırakalım bir şehir olarak Konya’yı, İnce Minareli Medrese’nin taç kapısından, Sahib Ata Camii’nin mihrabından, Alâeddin Camii’nin minberinden ve Karatay Medresesi’nin çini mozaik bezemeli kubbesinden bahsetmemesi oldukça şaşırtıcıdır. Benzer durum uzun Osmanlı dönemi için de geçerlidir. Gelibolulu Mustafa Âli’nin Menâkıb-ı Hünerverân’ı çeşitli kaynaklardan derlenmiş de olsa, hattatlar, musavvirler, nakkaşlar, müzehhipler ve mücellitler gibi daha çok kitap sanatı ustaları hakkında bilgi veren en erken tarihli üretimlerden biri olarak dikkat çeker. Neredeyse bir ömre sığan Seyahatnâmesinde Evliya Çelebi, zaman zaman mübalağaya düşse de dolaştığı coğrafyanın kentleri, idarecileri, efsaneleri, inanç ve folkloru hakkında verdiği bilgilerin yanı sıra, mimari eserlere yönelik anlatımlarında “tarz-ı kadim üzre bina edilmiştir” veya “bukalemun nakışlı minberi” tanımlamalarıyla birlikte eserler arasında kurduğu analojilerle de öne çıkmış bir şahsiyettir. Türkiye’de İslam Sanatları Tarihi’ne yönelik ilk çalışmalar genel bir İslam Sanatı perspektifinden daha ziyade, Türk ya da Osmanlı/Selçuklu sanatı bağlamında 19. yüzyılın son çeyreğinde ortaya çıkmıştır. Montani Efendi’den Mimar Kemaleddin’e, Halil Edhem’den Celal Esat Arseven’e kadar pek çok müellifin İslam Sanatı; daha doğrusu İslam Mimarisi kavramına bakışları yukarıda bahsettiğim çerçevede şekillenmiştir. Bu çalışma bahsettiğim öncülerden sonra, bilhassa üniversitelerde Türk-İslam Sanatları, Sanat Tarihi veya Mimarlık Tarihi kürsülerinde konunun nasıl ele alındığı yönünde konu ve yazarlar ekseninde bir özet sunmayı hedeflemektedir. It is not possible to say that the Turks have been successful in terms of both the protection of the physical environment they have created and taken over and the experience of transferring the existing accumulation to the next generations through scientific or literary texts. It is possible to say that this claim continues at least in the context of writing on Islamic arts even if the degrees vary from the Middle Ages to the present day. For example, in Konya, where he lived himself in the 13th century, it is surprising that Mevlānā, whom we assume to be aware of the construction of many architectural works from the foundation excavation to the completion, does not mention the crown gate of the Ince Minaret Madrasa, the mihrāb of the Sāhib Ata Mosque, the minbar of the Alaeddin Mosque and the mosaic decorated dome of the Karatay Madrasa, let alone Konya itself as a city. The same applies to the long Ottoman period. Although compiled from various sources, the Menākıb-ı Hünerverān of Gelibolulu Mustafa Āli, is one of the earliest works that provide information about the masters of bibliopegy such as calligraphers, designers, engravers, gilders and bookbinders. In his travelogue, which fits almost a lifetime, Evliya Çelebi, although with some exaggeration at times, gives information about the cities, administrators, legends, beliefs and folklore of the geography he travels. Additionally, he stands out as a prominent figure with his descriptions such as “built on an ancient style” or “chameleon embroidered pulpit”, regarding architectural works together with the analogies he establishes between the works. The first studies in the History of Islamic Arts in Turkey emerged in the last quarter of the 19th century in the context of Turkish or Ottoman/Seljuk art, rather than a general perspective of Islamic Art. From Montani Efendi to Architect Kemaleddin, from Halil Edhem to Celal Esat Arseven, the views of authors on the concept of Islamic Art, or to be more precise, Islamic Architecture, are shaped in the framework I have mentioned above. This paper, aims to present an introduction for how the subject is handled, after the pioneers I have mentioned, by the departments of Turkish Islamic Arts, History of Art or History of Architecture at the universities, focus-ing on the themes and authors.
