Abstract: International audience; This paper proposes a circuit model to calculate the current along printed coils used in Resonant Wireless Power Transfer. It considers a system composed of a metamaterial and two coplanar coils, transmitter and receiver, respectively. First, a circuit model for the system is presented. Then, an analytical model is proposed to calculate the self-inductance of printed inductors, their characteristic resistance, and the mutual inductance between coils. The proposed formulation for calculating the mutual inductance between inductors is based on Neumann’s formula. The practical results validate the model precision, obtaining a maximum deviation of approximately 8%, 3%, and 3%, respectively. Due to the generality of this approach, it can also be applied to more complex structures such as metasurfaces. The proposed 3-D models proved to be ideal for modeling the printed inductor. Furthermore, this model proved to be computationally more efficient for analyzing large systems when compared to commercial full-wave simulation software, with a reduction in the computational time larger than three orders of magnitude.

Abstract: International audience; Desorption ionization on silicon mass spectrometry (DIOS-MS) enables the high throughput analysis of low molecular weight biomolecules. However, the detection of metabolites biomarkers from complex fluids, like plasma, is subordinated to sample pre-treatments which limit clinical applications. Herein, we show that porous silicon chemically modified using monolayers of n-propyldimethylmetoxysilane molecules, can be a good candidate for the fingerprinting of Lysophosphatidylcholine (LysoPC) in plasma, without any pre-treatment of the sample, for DIOS-MS-based diagnosis like sepsis diagnosis. Results are correlated to the location of LysoPC molecules inside/outside the pores, determined by time of flight-secondary ions mass spectrometry profiling, and to their physico-chemical properties.

Abstract: International audience; The Covid-19 crisis has led to a massive surge in the use of surgical masks worldwide, causing risks of shortages and high pollution. Various decontamination techniques are currently being studied to reduce these risks by allowing the reuse of masks. In this study, surgical masks were washed up to 10 times, each cycle under the same conditions. The consequences of the washing cycles on the structure, fiber morphology, and surface chemistry have been studied through several characterization techniques: scanning electron microscopy, wetting angle measurements, infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectrons spectroscopy. The washing process did not induce large changes in the hydrophobicity of the surface, the contact angle remaining constant throughout the cycles. The composition observed in the IR spectrum also remained unchanged for washed masks up to 10 cycles. Some slight variations were observed during X-ray analysis: the crystallinity of the fibers as well as the size of the crystals increases with the number of wash cycles. The XPS analysis shows that after 10 cycles, the surface of the masks underwent a slight oxidation. In the SEM images, changes were observed in the arrangement of the fibers, which are more visible the more times the mask has been washed: they align themselves in bundles, form areas with holes in the mask layer, and are crushed in some areas.

Abstract: International audience; This paper details the first publicly available implementation of the progressive mesh compression algorithm described in the paper entitled "Compressed Progressive Meshes" [R. Pajarola and J. Rossignac, IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics, 6 (2000), pp. 79-93]. Our implementation is generic, modular, and includes several improvements in the stopping criteria and final encoding. Given an input 2-manifold triangle mesh, an iterative simplification is performed, involving batches of edge collapse operations guided by an error metric. During this compression step, all the information necessary for the reconstruction (at the decompression step) is recorded and compressed using several key features: geometric quantization, prediction, and spanning tree encoding. Our implementation allowed us to carry out an experimental comparison of several settings for the key parameters of the algorithm: the local error metric, the position type of the resulting vertex (after collapse), and the geometric predictor. Source Code The proposed implementation is publicly available through the MEPP2 platform [20]. The algorithm can be used either as a command-line executable or integrated into the MEPP2 GUI. The source code is written in C++ and is accessible on the IPOL web page of this article 1 , as well as on the GitHub page of MEPP2 (MEPP-team/MEPP2 project 2).

Abstract: International audience; Nonverbal communication is paramount in daily life, as well as in populated virtual reality (VR) environments. In this paper, we focused on gaze behaviour, which is key to initiate and drive social interactions. Previous work on photographs and on virtual agents showed the importance of gaze, even in the presence of multiple stimuli, by demonstrating the stare-in-the-crowd effect: humans detect faster and observe gazes directed towards them longer than the averted ones. While previous studies focused on static scenarios, which fail in representing the complexity of real-life social interactions, we propose to explore the stare-in-the-crowd effect in dynamic situations. To this end, we designed a within-subject experiment where 21 users navigated a virtual street through an idle or moving crowd of virtual agents. Agents’ gaze was manipulated to display averted, directed, or shifting gaze. We analysed the user’s gaze (fixations, dwell time) and locomotor behaviours (path decisions, proximity to agents) as well as their social anxiety. Results showed that the stare-in-the-crowd effect is preserved when walking through both types of crowd, and that social anxiety decreases gaze interaction time and affects proximity behaviours in case of agents with directed gazes. However, virtual agents’ gaze did not elicit significant changes on users’ locomotion. These findings highlight the importance of considering virtual agents’ gaze when creating VR environments, and open future work perspectives to better understand factors that would strengthen or decrease this effect at gaze and locomotor levels.

Abstract: In this paper, we carry out a piecewise constant estimator of the density for privatised data. We establish a non-asymptotic oracle inequality for the Hellinger loss and deduce that our estimator is adaptive and (almost) rate optimal over a wide range of Besov classes. In particular, we show that a lower bound condition improves the convergence rates. This is in contrast to what happens with the L 2 loss where the rates can differ depending on whether the density is bounded or not.

Abstract: National audience; L’environnement, rendu intelligent par la pervasivité des systèmes embarqués se miniaturisant et s’insinuant jusque dans les objets du quotidien, offre autant de potentiels que de contraintes. En effet, l’intelligence ambiante (AmI) et l’intelligence artificielle (IA) sont intrinsèquement liées. L’augmentation de l’autonomie des dispositifs de l’AmI a encouragé le déploiement massif d’objets connectés produisant toujours plus de données exploitable pour l’IA. D’un autre côté, les besoins énergétiques actuels de calcul pour l’IA sont assez peu compatibles avec les faibles ressources des dispositifs de l’AmI et avec les enjeux sociétaux et planétaires.

Abstract: International audience; We contribute a research agenda for visualization in motion and two experiments to understand how well viewers can read data from moving visualizations. We define visualizations in motion as visual data representations that are used in contexts that exhibit relative motion between a viewer and an entire visualization. Sports analytics, video games, wearable devices, or data physicalizations are example contexts that involve different types of relative motion between a viewer and a visualization. To analyze the opportunities and challenges for designing visualization in motion, we show example scenarios and outline a first research agenda. Motivated primarily by the prevalence of and opportunities for visualizations in sports and video games we started to investigate a small aspect of our research agenda: the impact of two important characteristics of motion---speed and trajectory on a stationary viewer's ability to read data from moving donut and bar charts. We found that increasing speed and trajectory complexity did negatively affect the accuracy of reading values from the charts and that bar charts were more negatively impacted. In practice, however, this impact was small: both charts were still read fairly accurately.

Abstract: International audience; Much of the Ca2+ activity in astrocytes is spatially restricted to microdomains and occurs in fine processes that form a complex anatomical meshwork, the so-called spongiform domain. A growing body of literature indicates that those astrocytic Ca2+ signals can influence the activity of neuronal synapses and thus tune the flow of information through neuronal circuits. Because of technical difficulties in accessing the small spatial scale involved, the role of astrocyte morphology on Ca2+ microdomain activity remains poorly understood. Here, we use computational tools and idealized 3D geometries of fine processes based on recent super-resolution microscopy data to investigate the mechanistic link between astrocytic nanoscale morphology and local Ca2+ activity. Simulations demonstrate that the nano-morphology of astrocytic processes powerfully shapes the spatio-temporal properties of Ca2+ signals and promotes local Ca2+ activity. The model predicts that this effect is attenuated upon astrocytic swelling, hallmark of brain diseases, which we confirm experimentally in hypo-osmotic conditions. Upon repeated neurotransmitter release events, the model predicts that swelling hinders astrocytic signal propagation. Overall, this study highlights the influence of the complex morphology of astrocytes at the nanoscale and its remodeling in pathological conditions on neuron-astrocyte communication at so-called tripartite synapses, where astrocytic processes come into close contact with pre- and postsynaptic structures.

Abstract: DNA supercoiling, the level of under- or overwinding of the DNA polymer around itself, is widely recognized as an ancestral regulation mechanism of gene expression in bacteria. Higher levels of negative supercoiling facilitate the opening of the DNA double helix at gene promoters and thereby increase gene transcription rates. Different levels of supercoiling have been measured in bacteria exposed to different environments, leading to the hypothesis that variations in supercoiling could be a response to changes in the environment. Moreover, DNA transcription has been shown to generate local variations in the supercoiling level and, therefore, to impact the transcription rate of neighboring genes. In this work, we study the coupled dynamics of DNA supercoiling and transcription at the genome scale. We implement a genome-wide model of gene expression based on the transcription-supercoiling coupling. We show that, in this model, a simple change in global DNA supercoiling is sufficient to trigger differentiated responses in gene expression levels via the transcription-supercoiling coupling. Then, studying our model in the light of evolution, we demonstrate that this non-linear response to different environments, mediated by the transcription-supercoiling coupling, can serve as the basis for the evolution of specialized phenotypes.

Abstract: International audience; This paper aims at demonstrating the relevance of a new design perimeter for power switching cells through a monolithic vertical integration approach on a multi-terminal power chip with Wide-Band Gap material such as 4H silicon carbide (SiC). Multi-terminal monolithic architectures making use quasi-only of vertical unipolar switch (VDMOS) and JBS diode architecture within the context of a 600V/10A full integration of switching cells on 4H-SiC chips are proposed and validated through Sentaurus 2D numerical simulations. The key method to etch and to fill the metallic via needed to connect the VDMOS and the JBS from top to back side of the SiC wafer is presented. The first optimization of the electroplating process resulted in a Ni metal layer of about 5µm thick.

Abstract: International audience; Food has become a social issue. Developing a healthy relationship with food is a complex process as it implies a behaviour change. At first sight, recent advances in recommender system domain ensure personalised service and assistance of a user in decision-making process. However, traditional recommender systems lack the consideration of health-related factors (e.g., healthy diet guidelines, foodallergies, etc.). Moreover, instead of recommending a new item (recipe), an effective system should apply persuasion strategies to accompany a user in a long process, a little step at a time. Furthermore, most of existing recommender models do not take privacy preservation into account. In this position paper, we outline the challenges faced by a persuasive system for promoting eating habits and discuss our vision on the implementation of adaptive and privacy-aware persuasive strategies for healthy food promotion.

Abstract: International audience; The estimation of differential quantities on oriented point cloud is a classical step for many geometry processing tasks in computer graphics and vision. Even if many solutions exist to estimate such quantities, they usually fail at satisfying both a stable estimation with theoretical guarantee, and the efficiency of the associated algorithm. Relying on the notion of corrected curvature measures [LRT22, LRTC20] designed for surfaces, the method introduced in this paper meets both requirements. Given a point of interest and a few nearest neighbours, our method estimates the whole curvature tensor information by generating random triangles within these neighbours and normalising the corrected curvature measures by the corrected area measure. We provide a stability theorem showing that our pointwise curvatures are accurate and convergent, provided the noise in position and normal information has a variance smaller than the radius of neighbourhood. Experiments and comparisons with the state-of-the-art confirm that our approach is more accurate and much faster than alternatives. The method is fully parallelizable, requires only one nearest neighbour request per point of computation, and is trivial to implement.

Abstract: International audience; Methods for identifying homogeneous groups with varying characteristics in longitudinal data have been receiving increasing attention in recent years, especially in the medical domain. Exploiting electronic health records (EHRs) to infer patient subtypes can support practitioners in improving the decision-making process. In this paper, we propose a dynamic method for clustering multivariate longitudinal data, which constitutes a transparent solution for patient subtyping and modeling disease progression. Based on the assumption that subjects with similar disease trajectories share the same patterns, we subtype patients based on their medical history then learn the disease progression model. We cluster data periodically, and maintain the results and update the deduced subtypes by applying a borrowed approach from the data integration domain, namely entity matching. We test our method on the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) real-world dataset. We demonstrate how our results can facilitate the early detection of dementia two years on average before the actual diagnosis, and therefore assist in the development of support and prevention procedures for patients. We compare our clustering with the state-of-the-art data stream clustering algorithms, and show that our method exhibits higher effectiveness in terms of both internal and external validation metrics.

Abstract: International audience; We investigate a way to build a convivial plant identification tool halfway between the complex determination keys of botanists and the more recent but poorly explainable approaches based on AI image recognition. Our approach consists of a formal language to organize morphological traits and a Bayesian technique to describe plants with possible polymorphisms at all taxonomic levels, and to handle errors and uncertainties. From these structured data, automatic approaches can be designed to generate versatile determination keys, i.e. decision trees, which are otherwise tedious to design by hand.

Abstract: International audience; Frequent renewal of digital devices accounts for a large share of their environmental impact because of fabrication environmental costs. This renewal is often attributed to sociocultural phenomena (e.g. presentation of self or persuasive marketing) and to broken hardware (e.g. shattered screens or degraded batteries). We investigate a complementary aspect: how people live with devices as they are gradually becoming obsolete. We present a qualitative interview-based study with 18 participants on the role of software factors on the feeling of smartphone obsolescence. We identify three types of factors pushing for device renewal: upgrade issues, storage issues, and malfunctions. We find that these issues accumulate over time until a threshold is passed leading to renewal: we define this process as an obsolescence path. This threshold is often tied to contextual and social concerns. We also outline the various strategies people use to prolong the life of the almost obsolete devices. Our results show that hardware and software obsolescence are tied, and should be considered together as they trace obsolescence paths. Based on these observations, we identify design opportunities to extend the lifespan of devices.

Abstract: International audience; Eye tracking can serve as a gateway to studying the mind. For this reason it has been adopted by a diverse range of scientific communities. With the improvement of the quality of head-mounted virtual reality devices (HMDs) over the past 10 years, eye tracking has been added to capture gaze in immersive environments. The use of HMDs with eye tracking is increasing significantly and so is the need for a toolbox enabling consensus about eye tracking methods in 3D. We present the Salient360! toolbox: it implements functions to identify saccades and fixations and output gaze characteristics (e.g., fixation duration or saccade directions), to generate saliency maps, fixation maps, and scanpath data. It also implements routines made to compare gaze data that were adapted to 3D. Abstract: Given a training set, a loss function, and a neural network architecture, it is often taken for granted that optimal network parameters exist, and a common practice is to apply available optimization algorithms to search for them. In this work, we show that the existence of an optimal solution is not always guaranteed, especially in the context of {\em sparse} ReLU neural networks. In particular, we first show that optimization problems involving deep networks with certain sparsity patterns do not always have optimal parameters, and that optimization algorithms may then diverge. Via a new topological relation between sparse ReLU neural networks and their linear counterparts, we derive -- using existing tools from real algebraic geometry -- an algorithm to verify that a given sparsity pattern suffers from this issue. Then, the existence of a global optimum is proved for every concrete optimization problem involving a shallow sparse ReLU neural network of output dimension one. Overall, the analysis is based on the investigation of two topological properties of the space of functions implementable as sparse ReLU neural networks: a best approximation property, and a closedness property, both in the uniform norm. This is studied both for (finite) domains corresponding to practical training on finite training sets, and for more general domains such as the unit cube. This allows us to provide conditions for the guaranteed existence of an optimum given a sparsity pattern. The results apply not only to several sparsity patterns proposed in recent works on network pruning/sparsification, but also to classical dense neural networks, including architectures not covered by existing results.

Abstract: International audience; Magmas form at depth, move upwards and evolve chemically through a combination of processes. Power-law relationships describe eruption magnitudes, frequencies, and durations. Such relationships are typical of non-linear and self-organised systems with critical points. A growing body of evidence indicates that several magma chambers connect before and during eruptions. In this work, we investigate the potential of the network approach through a prototype of magma pool interaction and magma transfer across the crust. In network terms, it describes a diffusion process on a dynamic spatial network, in which diffusion and network evolution are intertwined: the diffusion affects the network structure, and reciprocally. This model is a proof of concept where mechanisms are based on analogies: space and time are not realistic, the system is isothermal, etc. Nevertheless, it succeeds in showing that a system governed by the same mechanical rules and fed by a linear input of magma at the bottom, can result in nonlinear behaviors at the surface (e.g., episodic volcanic eruptions).

Abstract: International audience; Predominant in today society, mobile apps are rising as promising application systems for automatic control. An app can be viewed as a plant, processing input signals (queries, phone data, etc.) and generating outputs (such as a service or an answer). Guaranteeing that the app complies with a desired behavior is a major safety challenge. This work focuses on privacy issues for geolocated mobile apps. Many applications use the location data to provide a service (e.g., navigation, fitness) or to improve it (e.g., weather forecast, social media). This gain in service utility comes at the cost of personal data sharing. Such threat to user privacy can be leveraged by protection mechanisms, e.g., addition of noise to the location data. However, state-of-the-art techniques still lack means of ensuring both data utility and privacy in a dynamics utilization context. This paper presents the first non-linear analytical modeling followed by a control formulation for regulating the privacy level in a mobile app. The privacy is sensed using the well established notion of Point of Interest. Through modeling, we highlight the control challenges, namely the non-linearity and time-variance of the plant, its high sensibility to noise and the impact of the user's mobility pattern-seen a disturbance. A controller is designed, combining feedback with anticipation action. Evaluation is performed using mobility records from two real-world multi-users datasets. Our approach enables, with a unique and universal tuning, to robustly meet privacy objectives with preserved utility and negligible computational overhead. Control algorithm, experimental evaluation and analysis scripts are available online for reproducibility.

Abstract: International audience; The discovery of the ferroelectric orthorhombic phase in doped HfO2 gave a major boost to the interest for integrated ferroelectric oxides in the CMOS industry. Given its low crystallization temperature, HfZrO2 (HZO) is an excellent candidate for both front and back-end of line integration of ferroelectric Non-Volatile Memories or artificial synapses. Although promising demonstrations of have been disclosed, achieving minimum wake-up and imprint behavior remains a significant challenge. In this work, elaboration by sputtering of HZO films and wake-up & imprint dynamics are studied.

Abstract: International audience; This position paper seeks to ground and outline a discussion on environmental issues related to tangible user interfaces. The discussion that we present here started during a panel on "Tangible Interaction and Industrial Degrowth" that took place during the ETIS European studio on tangible interaction in November 2022 [5]. The panel discussed the problem from various angles and took input from the participants of the studio in the form of an online mapping brainstorm. The topics covered ranged from environmental feedback aspects to low-tech alternatives, as well as systemic, methodological and regulation considerations. This position paper reports on the approaches that were discussed and, based on these first insights, suggests directions for sustainable tangible interaction.

We propose to use eye-tracking (ET) and skin conductance (SC) tools to identify attention and arousal features, with the aim of monitoring real-time changes in task engagement during bimodal EEG-fMRI NF in our forthcoming work.

Abstract: The creation of fluorescent defects in silicon is a key stepping stone towards assuring the integration perspectives of quantum photonic devices into existing technologies. Here we demonstrate the creation, by femtosecond laser annealing, of W and G-centers in commercial silicon on insulator (SOI) previously implanted with 12C+ ions. Their quality is comparable to that found for the same emitters obtained with conventional implant processes; as quantified by the photoluminescence radiative lifetime, the broadening of their zero-phonon line (ZPL) and the evolution of these quantities with temperature. In addition to this, we show that both defects can be created without carbon implantation and that we can erase the G-centers by annealing while enhancing the W-centers' emission. These demonstrations are relevant to the deterministic and operando generation of quantum emitters in silicon., 8 pages, 4 figures

Abstract: International audience; Comparing probability distributions is at the crux of many machine learning algorithms. Maximum Mean Discrepancies (MMD) and Wasserstein distances are two classes of distances between probability distributions that have attracted abundant attention in past years. This paper establishes some conditions under which the Wasserstein distance can be controlled by MMD norms. Our work is motivated by the compressive statistical learning (CSL) theory, a general framework for resource-efficient large scale learning in which the training data is summarized in a single vector (called sketch) that captures the information relevant to the considered learning task. Inspired by existing results in CSL, we introduce the Hölder Lower Restricted Isometric Property and show that this property comes with interesting guarantees for compressive statistical learning. Based on the relations between the MMD and the Wasserstein distances, we provide guarantees for compressive statistical learning by introducing and studying the concept of Wasserstein regularity of the learning task, that is when some task-specific metric between probability distributions can be bounded by a Wasserstein distance.

Abstract: International audience; In a (parameterized) graph edge modification problem, we are given a graph G, an integer k and a (usually well-structured) class G of graphs, and asked whether it is possible to transform G into a graph G ′ ∈ G by adding and/or removing at most k edges. Parameterized graph edge modification problems received considerable attention in the last decades. In this paper, we focus on finding small kernels for edge modification problems. One of the most studied problems is the Cluster Editing problem, in which the goal is to partition the vertex set into a disjoint union of cliques. Even if a 2k-vertex kernel exists for Cluster Editing, this kernel does not reduce the size of the instance in most cases. Therefore, we explore the question of whether linear kernels are a theoretical limit in edge modification problems, in particular when the target graph class is very structured (such as a partition into cliques for instance). We prove, as far as we know, the first sublinear kernel for an edge modification problem. Namely, we show that Clique + Independent Set Deletion, which is a restriction of Cluster Deletion, admits a kernel of size O(k/ log k). We also obtain small kernels for several other edge modification problems. We first show that Cluster Deletion admits a 2k-vertex kernel as Cluster Editing, improving the previous 4kvertex kernel. We prove that (Pseudo-)Split Completion (and the equivalent (Pseudo-)Split Deletion) admits a linear kernel, improving the existing quadratic kernel. We also prove that Trivially Perfect Completion admits a quadratic kernel (improving the cubic kernel), and finally prove that its triangle-free version (Starforest Deletion) admits a linear kernel, which is optimal under the Exponential Time Hypothesis.

Abstract: International audience; Schottky barrier diodes on GaN on GaN substrates are fabricated for the purposeof material and technology characterization. The epitaxial layers are grown byMOCVD. I–V measurements as a function of the temperature in the range80–480 K show ideality factor (n) and barrier height (ϕB) variations not following athermionic (TE) model. Consequently, barrier height fluctuations are considered.In the temperature range 280–480 K, an average barrier height of 1.31 eV with arelatively large standard deviation (σ) of 0.15 eV is extracted using this model. Then(T ) variation is also analyzed in order to extract the field sensibility of 1) themean barrier height variation (ρ2 = -0.1) and 2) the barrier height standarddeviation (ρ3 = -15mV). The corrected Richardson plot usingϕB and σ values islinear and gives a Richardson constant of 31.5 A cm² K² close to the theoreticalvalue of 26.4 A cm² K². For a deeper understanding of ϕB fluctuation origins,micro-Raman mapping of the epitaxial layers and deep-level transient spectroscopy(DLTS) are used. μ-RS mappings show compressive strain for diodeshaving suffered electrical breakdown. DLTS analysis shows the presence of ninelevels whose signatures are extracted and nature discussed.

Abstract: International audience; We focus on (Hf,Zr)O2 thin films deposition for the capacitor of FRAM in the 1T-1C. (Hf,Zr)O2 thin films are studied to either fully understand the stabilization of the ferroelectric phase or to fit with industrial requirements. Changing the pressure in our sputtering chamber during the room temperature deposition lead to the deposition of crystalline or amorphous films. After a Rapid Thermal Annealing, only the amorphous films crystallize in the ferro-phase [1]. Samples are stacks of Si/TiN/Hf0.5Zr0.5O/TiN/Pt. The samples are called NM, and M: NM and M refers to two different architectures, respectively non-mesa and mesa structures [2]. The set-up for electrical measurements have been described in reference [3]. We report the fabrication of two samples deposited by magnetron sputtering with excellent performances, quite similar to samples deposited by ALD. Pr values are among the highest for samples deposited by sputtering. Although the N-sample and NM-samples show very close Pr values, the two samples show completely different electrical behaviors. During cycling, the increase of Pr value for the NM-sample is more than an order of magnitude higher than the M-sample. It is accompanied by a decrease of the endurance which is two order of magnitude higher for the NM-sample than for the M-sample. The origins of the different electrical behaviors come from the micro-crystalline structures of the two samples, according to GIXRD results. The crystallization takes place during the annealing step. It induces different stress states which lead to two different micro-crystalline patterning. The M-sample shows no monoclinic peak, whereas the NM-sample shows many monoclinic orientations. 41. Interface engineering between HfZrO2 thin films and electrodes for enhanced ferroelectricity

Abstract: International audience; Keeping the miniaturisation pace in the modern semiconductor technology, while chasing an increased computing efficiency, has stimulated the research to focus on novel computing paradigms. One of these is neuromorphic engineering, which aims at the physical implementation of devices mimicking biological neuron and synapses. In this context, memristors based on ferroelectric material are promising candidates to implement synaptic functions. For instance ferroelectric tunnel junction (FTJ) memristors, based on HfZrO2 (HZO) have shown synaptic learning abilities [1]. In addition, HZO processes are already fully compatible with the CMOS industry, with oxide layers thinner than 10 nm. In this work we present a comparative study of different HZO-based FTJs. By interface engineering, we aimed at improving the structural and electrical performances of ultra-thin ferroelectric HZO films. The HZO was synthesized by magnetron sputtering from a Hf0.5Zr0.5O2 ceramic target and subsequently crystallized by rapid thermal annealing [2]. We compared the structural properties and the electrical performances of sub-8 nm HZO layers sandwiched between bottom and top electrodes made of titanium nitride or tungsten. Furthermore, we probed the effect on the ferroelectric properties of HZO of the insertion of an ultra-thin titanium layer at the electrode/HZO interface. The microstructure and the chemical properties of HZO were investigated by means of glancing incidence X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and electron energy loss spectroscopy. Electrical characterization was conducted using the positive-up-negative-down-technique and by the acquisition of current vs voltage characteristics. We propose optimized stacks with enhanced ferroelectricity, which are considered for the implementation of FTJs, and for the demonstration of synaptic learning mechanisms for neuromorphic applications [3].[1] L. Abstract: International audience; The problems of determining the minimum-sized identifying, locating-dominating and open locating-dominating codes of an input graph are special search problems that are challenging from both theoretical and computational viewpoints. In these problems, one selects a dominating set C of a graph G such that the vertices of a chosen subset of V (G) (i.e. either V (G) \ C or V (G) itself) are uniquely determined by their neighborhoods in C. A typical line of attack for these problems is to determine tight bounds for the minimum codes in various graph classes. In this work, we present tight lower and upper bounds for all three types of codes for block graphs (i.e. diamond-free chordal graphs). Our bounds are in terms of the number of maximal cliques (or blocks) of a block graph and the order of the graph. Two of our upper bounds verify conjectures from the literature-with one of them being now proven for block graphs in this article. As for the lower bounds, we prove them to be linear in terms of both the number of blocks and the order of the block graph. We provide examples of families of block graphs whose minimum codes attain these bounds, thus showing each bound to be tight.

Abstract: Data informativity is a crucial property to ensure the consistency of the prediction error estimate. This property has thus been extensively studied in the open-loop and in the closed-loop cases, but has only been briefly touched upon in the dynamic network case. In this paper, we consider the prediction error identification of the modules in a row of a dynamic network using the full input approach. Our main contribution is to propose a number of easily verifiable data informativity conditions for this identification problem. Among these conditions, we distinguish a sufficient data informativity condition that can be verified based on the topology of the network and a necessary and sufficient data informativity condition that can be verified via a rank condition on a matrix of coefficients that are related to a full-order model structure of the network. These data informativity conditions allow to determine different situations (i.e., different excitation patterns) leading to data informativity. In order to be able to distinguish between these different situations, we also propose an optimal experiment design problem that allows to determine the excitation pattern yielding a certain pre-specified accuracy with the least excitation power.

Abstract: International audience; Bioaerosols have impacts on atmospheric processes, as well as ecosystem and human health. Common bioaerosol collection methods include impaction, liquid impingement, filtration, and electrostatic precipitation. These methods are used by active samplers that require an air mover and power, but this requirement can also represent a major constraint in field studies. Alternatively, passive samplers do not require power and can operate for long times. In this study, the Rutgers Electrostatic Passive Sampler (REPS), which captures particles by electrostatic attraction and gravitational settling, was deployed at the summit of puy de Dôme (1465 m a.s.l., France) alongside an active PM10 sampler (~1000 L min-1) collecting aerosols on a quartz fiber filter. The diversity of the airborne bacteria captured by both samplers across six weekly sampling periods was examined by 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing. The dominant phyla observed by both samplers were similar and included Firmicutes, Proteobacteria, and Actinobacteriota. Overall, 12 to 63% of the total bacterial richness at the genus level was shared between the two samplers, depending upon a paired sample, i.e., sampling week. The PM10 sampler and REPS detected the same dominant genera, including Lysinibacillus and Sphingomonas, although their relative abundances for each paired sampler varied. The observed bacterial richness and diversity, as estimated through Shannon's and Simpson's indexes, were significantly greater in REPS samples compared to the PM10 samples. The results suggest that REPS could be used for simple and convenient sampling of bioaerosols, especially in remote areas and other locations with limited power access.

Abstract: International audience; Interoperability is a well-known challenge when dealing with data, especially open data. Several guiding principles and best practices are recommended to publish data and enhance interoperability. RDF is a standard data format for interoperability within the Semantic Web field and Linked Open Data initiative. Several tools and mapping languages have been proposed to convert data of usual formats to RDF but they are still difficult to adopt sustainably by data producers because of technical expertise requirements as a first barrier. In this paper, we introduce a methodical approach to convert to RDF open data existing in various usual formats. This approach is designed to encourage data producers without a deep Semantic Web expertise to semantically and sustainably lift their data. We also describe an implementation of this approach as a semi-automatic workflow for GeoJSON data format, and we discuss its preliminary results.; Les données publiées sur le web posent des problèmes d’interopérabilité car elles sont syntaxiquement et sémantiquement hétérogènes, et leurs sémantique est implicite. L’intervention humaine est nécessaire pour la capturer, mais elle s’avère fastidieuse à l’échelle du web. Le domaine du Web Sémantique (WS) introduit RDF (Schreiber et Raimond, 2014) comme modèle de données standard fournissant une structure de liaison et une sémantique explicite des données pour les humains et les machines. Plusieurs outils et langages de mapping ont été proposés pour convertir les données de formats courants (ex. CSV) en RDF, mais la majorité requiert un certain degré d’expertise en WS, ce qui ralenti leur adoption. Nous proposons une méthode destinées à des experts métiers, pour convertir en RDF les données ouvertes de divers formats courants. Nous présentons les premiers retours des experts métiers vis-à-vis de cette méthode.

The majority of existing solutions focuses on textual data, this means that data sets containing boolean and numerical attribute types are rarely considered in the literature, while the problem of missing values is inadequately covered. Supervised solutions cannot be applied without an adequate number of labelled examples, but training data for deduplication can only be obtained through time-costly processes. To address these challenges, we go beyond existing works through D-HAT, a clustering-based pipeline that is inherently capable of handling high dimensional, sparse and heterogeneous attribute types. At its core lies: (i) a novel matching function that effectively summarizes multiple matching signals, and (ii) MutMax, a greedy clustering algorithm that designates as duplicates the pairs with a mutually maximum matching score. We evaluate D-HAT on five established, real-world benchmark data sets, demonstrating that our approach outperforms the state-of-the-art supervised and unsupervised deduplication algorithms to a significant extent.; La déduplication est une tâche qui consiste à reconnaître plusieurs représentations d'un même objet du monde réel. Abstract: International audience; Reservoir computing is an analog bio-inspired computation scheme for efficiently processing time-dependent signals, the photonic implementations of which promise a combination of massive parallel information processing, low power consumption, and high-speed operation. However, most of these implementations, especially for the case of time-delay reservoir computing, require extensive multi-dimensional parameter optimization to find the optimal combination of parameters for a given task. We propose a novel, largely passive integrated photonic TDRC scheme based on an asymmetric Mach-Zehnder interferometer in a self-feedback configuration, where the nonlinearity is provided by the photodetector, and with only one tunable parameter in the form of a phase shifting element that, as a result of our configuration, allows also to tune the feedback strength, consequently tuning the memory capacity in a lossless manner. Through numerical simulations, we show that the proposed scheme achieves good performance-when compared to other integrated photonic architectures-on the temporal bitwise XOR task and various time series prediction tasks, while greatly reducing hardware and operational complexity.
