Phenyl isocyanide has been chosen as a prototype to probe the π-πinteraction modulated by the -NC group, which has a chameleonic nature with two main resonance forms showing a triple bond and being carbenoid. The rotational spectroscopic investigation complemented with theoretical analyses indicates that the phenyl isocyanide dimer has a scissor-like configuration controlled by dispersive forces along with the formation of π-πstacking. This is the first rotational spectroscopic evidence, to the best of our knowledge, that the mono-substitution by an -NC group on benzene can activate the meta position in forming noncovalent interactions. This work also provides experimental evidence on the importance of substituent effects in modulating π-πstacked structures, as well as practical proof of a biased interaction behavior of isocyanide-substituted aromatic molecules.

Cardiotoxicity is the most dramatic complications of cancer therapies, leading to halt in potentially life-saving anti-tumor treatment regimens and a poor survival prognosis in a non-negligible percentage of patients. Angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs) and β-blockers are effective in the treatment of the cancer therapy–related cardiac dysfunction (CTRCD), while their roles in the prevention of cardiotoxicity are unclear. Sacubitril/valsartan was advantageous over ACEI in heart failure patients for further reduction of cardiovascular death or heart failure re-hospitalization. However, there is short of well-established testimony of its efficacy and safety in the prevention and treatment of CTRCD in the cardio-oncology setting. Although some small observational studies found a good performance of sacubitril/valsartan in patients with CTRCD, large-scale prospective clinical studies are required to confirm its excellent results. In this paper, we review the potential benefit of sacubitril/valsartan in human subjects with CTRCD.

Grb2-associated binding protein 1 (Gab1), an intracellular scaffolding adaptor, was involved in several cardiovascular diseases. However, the role of Gab1 in doxorubicin (DOX)-induced cardiotoxicity remains largely unknown. The present study investigated whether Gab1 protected against DOX-induced cardiotoxicity and the underlying mechanism. We overexpressed Gab1 in the hearts using an adeno-associated virus 9 system through tail vein injection. C57BL/6 mice were subjected to DOX (15 mg/kg/d, i.p.) to generate DOX-induced cardiotoxicity. Echocardiography, histological analysis, immunofluorescence and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kits, Western blotting, and quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) evaluated DOX-induced cardiotoxicity and the underlying mechanisms. Myocardial Gab1 protein and messenger RNA (mRNA) levels were markedly decreased in DOX-administered mice. Overexpression of Gab1 in myocardium significantly improved cardiac function and attenuated cardiac oxidative stress, inflammatory response, and apoptosis induced by DOX. Mechanistically, we found that PI3K/Akt signaling pathway was downregulated after DOX treatment, and Gab1 overexpression activated PI3K/Akt signaling pathway, whereas PI3K/Akt signaling pathway inhibition abolished the beneficial effect of Gab1 overexpression in the heart. Collectively, our results indicated that Gab1 is essential for cardioprotection against DOX-induced oxidative stress, inflammatory response, and apoptosis by mediating PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. And cardiac gene therapy with Gab1 provides a novel therapeutic strategy against DOX-induced cardiotoxicity.

The purpose of this study was to explore the research hotspots and trends of Kinesio Taping in the last decade and provide new sights in future studies. Publications in the area of Kinesio Taping were searched from the Web of Science Core Collection database between 2011 and 2020. Citespace software was used to analyze data on countries/regions, institutions, authors, co-cited references, and keywords. A total of 677 publications were obtained in the last decade. We identified the most prolific countries, institutions, and authors in the field of Kinesio Taping from 2011 to 2020. The annual number of publications showed an upward trend. The most prolific country and institution were Turkey and Hacettepe University, respectively. The author with the biggest number of publications was Gul Baltaci from Turkey. The top 5 most frequent keywords were "pain", "tape", "strength", "exercise", and "reliability". The keywords with the highest centrality were "proprioception", followed by "reliability", "clinical trial", "ankle", and "pain". Ten clusters were found and the biggest one was "quadricep". The top 9 keywords with the strongest bursts were detected and "trial" had the highest burst strength. The results from the bibliometric analysis provide hotspots and trends in the field of Kinesio Taping. It is still in the development stage of the past decade. Pain relief, sports injury prevention and treatment, and proprioception enhancement to improve postural control were the hotspots from 2011 to 2020. High-quality trials and standardized criteria for applications are needed in the future.

Background. Resistin is closely related to cardiovascular diseases, and this study is aimed at examining the role of resistin in doxorubicin- (DOX-) induced cardiac injury. Methods. First, 48 mice were divided into 2 groups and treated with saline or DOX, and the expression of resistin at different time points was examined ( N = 24 ). A total of 40 mice were pretreated with the antiresistin neutralizing antibody (nAb) or isotype IgG for 1 hour and further administered DOX or saline for 5 days. The mice were divided into 4 groups: saline-IgG, saline-nAb, DOX-IgG, and DOX-nAb ( N = 10 ). Cardiac injury, cardiomyocyte apoptosis, inflammatory factors, and the biomarkers of M1 and M2 macrophages in each group were analyzed. Result. DOX administration increased the expression of resistin. DOX treatment exacerbated the loss of body and heart weight and cardiac vacuolation in mice. The antiresistin nAb reversed these conditions, downregulated the expression of myocardial injury markers, and decreased apoptosis. In addition, the antiresistin nAb decreased p65 pathway activation, decreased M1 macrophage differentiation and the expression of related inflammatory factors, and increased M2 macrophage differentiation and the expression of related inflammatory factors. Conclusion. The antiresistin nAb protected against DOX-induced cardiac injury by reducing cardiac inflammation and may be a promising target to relieve DOX-related cardiac injury.

A time–temperature–transformation–viscosity (TTT-η) diagram can reflect changes in the physical states of a resin, which take on significance for the study of the curing process of polyurethane resin lenses. Coupling the differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) test, the curing kinetic parameters of 1,4-bis(isocyanatomethyl)cyclohexane (H6XDI)/2,3-bis((2-mercaptoethyl)thio)-1-propanethiol (BES) polyurethane system were obtained. By phenomenological modeling, the relationships between degree, temperature, and time were obtained. An isothermal DSC test was carried out at 423 K. Based on the DiBenedetto equation, the relationships between glass transition temperature, degree of cure, and time were obtained, and the glass transition temperature was thus correlated with temperature and time. The gelation time at different temperatures was measured by rotary rheometry, and the relationship between gelation time and gelation temperature was established. The time–temperature–transformation (TTT) diagram of H6XDI/BES system was constructed accordingly. Subsequently, a six-parameter double Arrhenius equation was used as the basis for the rheological study. The viscosity was examined during the curing process. The TTT-η diagram was obtained, which laid the theoretical foundation for the optimization and setting of processing parameters.

As a natural ore, Taichi stone brings potential market value and social value due to its health-care functions, such as releasing far-infrared and anti-ultraviolet (anti-UV) and anti-bacterial functions. In this study, Tachi masterbatch (containing 10% Tachi nanoparticles)/polyester (PET) functional composite fiber was prepared by electro-spinning. To study the effect of nanoparticle content on the composite fibers, five spinning solutions with different nanoparticle contents were mixed and electrospun. The spun fibers were then characterized by using scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, and far-infrared and UV testing devices, respectively. The result shows that when the Taichi nanoparticle content is 3%, the composite fiber membranes will have a better dispersion, the fiber is more uniform, and smaller fiber diameter can be obtained. Compared with the pure PET fiber, the composite fibers have an improved far-infrared radiation performance and anti-UV performance. The highest nanoparticle content of 7% composite fiber gives the best far-infrared radiation and anti-UV performance. The newly developed Taichi masterbatch/PET functional composite fibers have potential application for the development of multi-functional textiles and apparels in the future.

An optical polythiourethane thermosetting system based on a 4-mercaptomethyl-3,6-dithia-1,8-octanedithiol and a m-xylylenediisocyanate has been studied. The solid-state isothermal cure reaction was followed by FTIR spectroscopy in the temperature range of 80–120°C. Kinetic and thermodynamic parameters were calculated using normalized conversion curves.

The problem behaviors exhibited by left-behind children occur within multiple contexts, and are influenced by cumulative risk, including family, peer, and school characteristics; however, little is known about the mediating and moderating mechanisms underlying the relationship between such problem behaviors and cumulative risk. A total of 1,313 Chinese left-behind children were recruited to complete anonymous questionnaires measuring cumulative risk, deviant peer affiliation, effortful control, and delinquent behavior. After controlling demographic covariates, cumulative risk is positively associated with problem behaviors. Furthermore, deviant peer affiliation was found to partially mediate the association between cumulative risk and problem behaviors. Both the direct association between cumulative risk and delinquent behaviors and the indirect effect of deviant peer affiliation were moderated by effortful control, specifically; the effects were stronger for left-behind children with low levels of effortful control. These results highlight the significance of the cumulative ecological model for understanding and developing intervention programs to reduce left-behind children's problem behaviors.

Although subjective age has been shown to play an important role in older adults' experiences of depressive symptoms, the mediating and moderating mechanisms underlying this relationship have not been adequately examined. The present study aimed to investigate the mediating role perceived control plays between subjective age and depressive symptoms, as well as the moderating role self-perceptions of aging plays in this indirect relationship. To examine this, a cross-sectional study was conducted with 609 Chinese older adults, who completed measures of subjective age, perceived control, self-perceptions of aging, and depressive symptoms. The results indicated that: (1) possessing a younger subjective age is significantly associated with less depressive symptoms; (2) perceived control partially mediates the relationship between subjective age and depressive symptoms; and (3) the indirect effect of subjective age on depressive symptoms, through perceived control, is moderated by self-perceptions of aging, while the mediated path is stronger for older adults with less favorable self-perceptions of aging. The findings underscore the importance of identifying the mechanisms that moderate the mediated paths between subjective age and depressive symptoms.

Objective: We sought to explore the relationships between multiple chemokines with spirometry, inflammatory mediators and CT findings of emphysema, small airways disease and bronchial wall thickness. Methods: All patients with COPD (n = 65) and healthy control subjects (n = 23) underwent high-resolution CT, with image analysis determining the low attenuation area (LAA), ratio of mean lung attenuation on expiratory and inspiratory scans (E/I MLD) and bronchial wall thickness of inner perimeter of a 10-mm diameter airway (Pi10). At enrollment, subjects underwent pulmonary function studies, chemokines and inflammatory mediators measurements. Results: Multiple chemokines (CCL2, CCL3, CCL5, CX3CL1, CXCL8, CXCL9, CXCL10, CXCL11 and CXCL12) and inflammatory mediators (MMP-9, MMP-12, IL-18 and neutrophil count) were markedly increased in the serum of COPD patients compared with healthy controls. There were associations between small airway disease (E/I MLD) and CCL11, CXCL8, CXCL10, CXCL11, CXCL12 and CX3CL1. Especially CXCL8 and CX3CL1 are strongly associated with E/I MLD (r = 0.74, p < 0.001; r = 0.76, p < 0.001, respectively). CXCL8, CXCL12 and CX3CL1 were moderately positively correlated with emphysema (%LAA) (r = 0.49, p < 0.05; r = 0.51, p < 0.05; r = 0.54, p < 0.01, respectively). Bronchial wall thickness (Pi10）showed no significant differences between the COPD and healthy controls,，but there was an association between Pi10 and FEV1% in COPD patients (r=−0.420, p = 0.048). Our statistical results showed that there were not any associations between airway wall thickness (Pi10) and chemokines. Conclusion: Pulmonary chemokines levels are closely associated with the extent of gas trapping, small airways disease and emphysema identified on high-resolution chest CT scan. Advances in knowledge: This study combines quantitative CT analysis with multiplex chemokines and inflammatory mediators to identify a new role of pathological changes in COPD.

In this work, the effect of modified graphene oxide and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) on the tribological and anticorrosion properties of waterborne polyurethane (WPU) was studied. The modified graphene oxide (MGO) was obtained by the surface functionalization modification of graphene oxide (GO) with isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), and MGO/WPU composite coating and MGO-PTFE/WPU composite coating with different mass fractions of MGO were prepared. The tribological and electrochemical experiment results demonstrated that the tribological properties of the coating and the corrosion resistance of the worn coating were effectively enhanced under the synergistic effect of MGO and PTFE. Finally, a mechanism was proposed to explain the improvement in anticorrosion performance of the worn coating.

The surface modified hydrophilic zinc sulfide nano powder was prepared by hydrothermal method, and the corresponding zinc sulfide/polyurethane organic-inorganic composite transparent coating via in-situ polymerization. The structure of ZnS Nanoparticles and organic-inorganic composite coating were characterized by Infrared Spectroscopy, X-Ray Diffraction, Laser Particle Size Analyzer and Scanning Electron Microscopy. The optical properties were measured by Ultraviolet-Visible spectrophotometer and ellipsometry. The results show that the monodisperse hydrophilic nano zinc sulfide powder with a particle size of about 70 nm can be obtained by thioglycolic acid (TGA) modification, which has good compatibility with waterborne polyurethane. Nano zinc sulfide increased the refractive index of the coating significantly and the refractive index of the coatings could be controlled in the region of 1.46–1.71 organic-inorganic composite coating by adding ZnS. When the amount of nano ZnS added was 30%, the refractive index of the hybrid coating can reach 1.71, and the transmittance was more than 90%. The cured coatings were smooth and no agglomeration between nano ZnS particles could be found. After application on the surfaces of resin lens, the coatings presented better impact resistance, which indicated that the coating has application prospects in the field of fine processing of lens’ surfaces.

Objective: Accumulated evidence suggests that ATP-binding cassette A1 transporter (ABCA1) contributes to secreting insulin in pancreatic β-cells and amyloid beta formation. This study aimed to investigate the association between three single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of ABCA1 and susceptibility to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in a Han Chinese population. Methods: A total of 996 T2DM patients and 1,002 controls were included in the study. Three SNPs in the ABCA1 gene, i.e., rs2230806 (R219K), rs1800977 (C69T), and rs9282541 (R230C), were genotyped by SNaPshot. A genotype model, an allele model, a dominant model, and a recessive model were used to assess susceptibility to T2DM. Results: There were significant associations between rs1800977 and T2DM in different genetic models (TT vs. CC, OR = 0.591 [0.446–0.793], p < 0.001; T vs. C, OR = 0.835 [0.735–0.949], p = 0.006; recessive model, OR = 0.583 [0.449–0.756], p < 0.001). There were also significant associations between rs9282541 and T2DM in different genetic models (CT vs. CC, OR = 1.690 [0.807–1.005], p = 0.048; T vs. C, OR = 1.756 [0.694–1.060], p = 0.029; dominant model, OR = 1.735 [0.715–1.034], p = 0.037). Conclusion: Our case-control study showed that the two SNPs rs1800977 and rs9282541 in the ABCA1 gene are significantly associated with susceptibility to T2DM in our Han Chinese population. Study of further mechanisms should be performed before application to clinical therapy.

This study aimed to validate the role of the stress and coping paradigm in the context of psychological adjustment to chronic illnesses among older adults by using the structural equation modeling technique, as well as investigating the differences in structural weights between older adults with arthritis and older adults with hypertension.A cross-sectional study was conducted with 325 older adults with chronic illnesses (149 hypertension, 176 arthritis), aged 60-88 years, who completed questions on perceived social support, psychological resources, threat appraisal, self-efficacy, coping strategy, depressive symptoms, and anxiety.The results revealed that older adults with arthritis experienced significantly higher anxiety (t = 2.91, p 0.01) than those with hypertension, whereas no significant difference in their depressive symptoms was observed (t = 1.61, p 0.05). Social support, psychological resources, threat appraisal, and self-efficacy had a significant direct relationship with psychological distress (β = - 0.15, β = - 0.38, β = 0.19, β = - 0.23, respectively). Multi-group analyses showed significant differences in structural weights between older adults with hypertension and those with arthritis (ΔχThe stress and coping paradigm appears to be applicable for adjustment to chronic illnesses by allowing direct paths from social support, psychological resources, threat appraisal, and self-efficacy to psychological distress. The differences in structural weights may offer an intervening angle for clinical practitioners to design targeted interventions for older adults with different types of chronic illnesses.

A polythiourethane thermoset system based on a diisocyanate and a trithiol was investigated by dynamic rheological measurements. Strain sweep was performed to determine the linear elastic region of the thermosetting system. The changes of characteristic parameters including elastic modulus, viscous modulus, and complex viscosity were recorded in a heating ramp to trace the cross-linking and structural evolution during the curing process. Time sweep at constant temperatures was also performed to explore possible curing strategy at reduced temperatures. In addition, frequency sweep was conducted to confirm the temperature- and time-dependent viscoelastic properties of the thermoset system during the curing process. Both continuous heating and isothermal aging gave rise to solidification of the polythiourethane with similar critical structure, as evidenced by the critical values of relaxation exponent. A combination of isothermal aging and heating is expected to be a facile strategy for fabricating thermoset polythiourethane polymers at lower temperature or/and reduced curing time. A kinetic study was done to confirm the gelation characteristics of the polythiourethane system, and the activation energy was also calculated.

An optical polythiourethane based on m-xylylene diisocyanate (XDI) and 4-mercaptomethyl-3,6-dithia-1,8-octanedithiol (BES) has been studied. Triethylamine was adopted as a catalyst, and the solid-state isothermal cure reaction was carried out using FTIR spectroscopy, in the temperature range of 75°C-105°C. The -NCO absorption band of XDI was used to monitor the conversion of diisocyanate into polythiourethane. The reaction rate enhanced with an increase in the content of the catalyst, and the gel time determined by swelling test was shorter for the system with higher catalyst content. Kinetic parameters were calculated from the infrared spectrum data, and the results showed that the curing reaction of polythiourethane accords with first-order kinetic characteristics. The activation parameters obtained from the evaluation of kinetic data were △H∗=97.22 kJ mol−1, △S∗=−6.77 J K−1 mol−1, and Ea=100.23 kJ mol−1. The observed negative entropy of activation value supported the formation of a transition state in the cure reaction.

The homogeneous SiO2-TiO2 composite sols were prepared by organic-inorganic synchronous polymerization with titanium isopropoxide and tetrabutyl silicate as precursor. The organic-inorganic composite hard coating with Si-O-Ti as the framework was prepared by adding compound crosslinkers (up-401) and 3-Methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (KH-560). The structure of the coating and the hardened film were characterized by infrared spectrum, scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, particle size analyzer and thermogravimetry. The refractive index, transmittance and hardness of the hardened film were measured by ellipsometry, UV-Vis spectrophotometer and hardness tester. By adjusting the ratio of Si/Ti and optimizing the reaction conditions, the hardness of the hardened film could reach 6H, and the refractive index could be adjusted from 1.55 to 1.76. At the same time, the application of hard coatings on the surface of optical lens were studied.

To investigate the concentration of CX3CL1 in serum of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and to evaluate the associations between the CX3CL1 level and systemic inflammation, small airway obstruction, and COPD assessment test (CAT) scores in COPD patients.Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay were utilized to detect the CX3CL1 protein in serum separately from 64 patients with COPD and 53 healthy controls.Compared with healthy non-smokers, healthy smokers and COPD non-smokers, serum CX3CL1 protein levels were significantly elevated in COPD smokers (258.33 ± 56.27 pg/mL versus 177.32 ± 43.21 pg/mL, 185.64 ± 47.03 pg/mL, and 226.55 ± 51.79 pg/mL, P 0.05). Correlation analysis indicated that serum CX3CL1 in COPD smokers was negatively correlated with FEVThe results demonstrated that elevated circulating CX3CL1 level is associated with the systemic inflammation, small airway obstruction, and CAT scores in COPD patients, suggesting that CX3CL1 may play crucial roles in the pathogenesis of COPD. Blocking CX3CL1 might prevent the progression of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

There were still components with a high infant mortality when exposed to strong pressure for deep sea detector use. This paper enumerated the failure modes of components found under the full sea depth static pressure test, included multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC), winding inductor, diode, module and so on, which over stress cracking with different forms was observed. This paper also made a preliminary study of its failure causes. At last, a few suggestions of structure optimization and screening method before and after soldering was put forward.

APC is a tumor suppressor gene that is involved in the processes of cell migration and adhesion, transcriptional activation, and apoptosis. The goal of this study was to evaluate the contribution of the APC rs383830 polymorphism to coronary heart disease (CHD) in Han Chinese. A total of 783 patients with CHD and 737 controls were tested in the current association study. Although our study did not identify an association between the APC rs383830 polymorphism and CHD, a breakdown analysis by gender indicated there was a significant contribution of the rs383830 T allele to the risk of CHD in males (P = 0.046, odds ratio = 1.267, 95% confidence interval = 1.004-1.598). In conclusion, our study suggested a male-specific association of the APC rs383830 polymorphism with CHD.

Health textiles containing natural minerals have broad developing prospects; the current main task is to solve the problems caused by technical immaturity, improve efficiency and durability of its health properties, and expand production scale.

Silver alloy wires with the advantage of low cost, good thermal conductivity and electrical conductivity have been adopted in packaging industry [1, 2]. For plastic encapsulated microelectronics (PEMs) conventional wet decapsulation method is widely used and is implemented by using individual acid or mix acid. However silver alloy dissolves easily in acid. In this study, we present an automatic decapping approach using chemical acid mixture with KI+I2. This method is effective for silver alloy wire packages. There is no observable attack or corrosion on wires or bonding pads, and the wires are very uniform with no evidence of thinning or pitting.

The electrospinning of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fibers from strain-hardening PAN solutions was studied. The strain-hardening PAN electrospinning solutions were prepared by adding ultrahigh-molecular-weight PAN (UHMWPAN) into medium-molecular-weight PAN (MMWPAN) solutions. The strain-hardening behavior of the solutions was evidenced by the CaBER extensional rheological tests. In electrospinning of PAN nanofibers, the solutions containing UHMWPAN were found to be stable when large electric field intensity was applied at a constant source-target distance, different from the case that a solution without UHMWPAN was used. PAN nanofibers with smaller diameter (270 nm compared with 496 nm for the nanofibers containing no UHMWPAN) could be electrospun from the strain-hardening solutions at larger electric field intensity and no beaded fibers were observed. The results of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and mechanical tests showed that the crystallinity, crystal orientation and mechanical performance of electrospun PAN nanofibers were improved with the increase of electric field intensity.

The spinnability in pre-gelled gel spinning of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) precursor fibers was investigated. The spinning solutions were aged at 25 °C for different times prior to fiber spinning. The pre-gelled spinning solution aged for 2.5 h was much more strain hardening than the ungelled one, which can increase the spinnability of the solution. The maximum take-up velocity of the first winding roller V 1m, which reflects the spinnability of the spinning solutions, was found to be largest when the aging time was 1.5 h. The spinnability increased with the increase of the air gap length and the lengthdiameter ratio L/D of the spinnerette. Once the L/D increased beyond 15, the spinnability hardly changed. The fibers spun from the spinning solution aged for 1.5 h had the best mechanical properties and favorable structure, showing that good spinnability favors the performance increase of resultant PAN precursor fibers.

Bovine serum albumin/poly(acrylic acid), BSA/PAA, nano-scaled particles were produced by noncovalent bonds induced self-assembly method at acid pH area. Proper conditions during preparation process, such as pH value, BSA/PAA weight ratio(WR), PAA molecular weight, were researched by studying the hydrodynamic diameter, polydispersity index, and ζ potential of the nanoparticles. Complex formation between BSA and PAA was studied by FT-IR, AFM, and TEM. BSA chains are supposed to be partly trapped in the nanoparticles core after interaction with PAA because of the electrostatic attractions and hydrogen bonds interactions between BSA and PAA, while the rest of the BSA chains should form the shell of the nanoparticles. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This paper proposes a new method for the construction of Bernstein-Bezier algebraic hypersurface on a simplex with prescribed topology. The method is based on the combinatorial patchworking of Viro method. The topology of the Viro Bernstein-Bezier algebraic hypersurface piece is also described.

The thermal-induced gel spinning of polyacrylonitrile/dimethyl sulfoxide/water solutions were performed. The structure and performance of the PAN precursor fibers were characterized by mechanical properties testing, swelling capacity testing, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction. The effects of the water content, polymer concentration, coagulation bath temperature, and draw ratio on the cross-sectional morphology, structure, and tensile properties are reported. The results show that 2% water content is optimal due to dispersed small pores found in the fibers' cross section. With the coagulating bath temperature decreased, the large pores in fibers also decreased. Large pores almost disappeared up to −9°C. The mechanical properties of the PAN fibers increased with the enhancement of PAN concentration, while the decrease of the coagulating bath temperature or water content would induce the improvement of the fibers' mechanical properties. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
