The present study investigated the predictive values of urine paraquat (PQ) concentration, dose of poison, arterial blood lactate and Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE) II score in the prognosis of patients with acute PQ poisoning. A total of 194 patients with acute PQ poisoning, hospitalized between April 2012 and January 2014 at the First Affiliated Hospital of P.R. China Medical University (Shenyang, China), were selected and divided into survival and mortality groups. Logistic regression analysis, receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve analysis and Kaplan-Meier curve were applied to evaluate the values of urine paraquat (PQ) concentration, dose of poison, arterial blood lactate and (APACHE) II score for predicting the prognosis of patients with acute PQ poisoning. Initial urine PQ concentration (C0), dose of poison, arterial blood lactate and APACHE II score of patients in the mortality group were significantly higher compared with the survival group (all P<0.05). Logistic regression analysis revealed that C0, dose of poison and arterial blood lactate correlated with mortality risk of acute PQ poisoning (all P<0.05). ROC curve analysis suggested that the areas under the curve (AUC) values of C0, dose of poison, arterial blood lactate and APACHE II score in predicting the mortality of patients within 28 days were 0.921, 0.887, 0.808 and 0.648, respectively. The AUC of C0 for predicting early and delayed mortality were 0.890 and 0.764, respectively. The AUC values of urine paraquat concentration the day after poisoning (Csec) and the rebound rate of urine paraquat concentration in predicting the mortality of patients within 28 days were 0.919 and 0.805, respectively The 28-day survival rate of patients with C0 ≤32.2 μg/ml (42/71; 59.2%) was significantly higher when compared with patients with C0 >32.2 μg/ml (38/123; 30.9%). These results suggest that the initial urine PQ concentration may be the optimal index for predicting the prognosis of patients with acute PQ poisoning. A chiral phosphoric acid and a ruthenium complex were found to catalyze an olefin cross-metathesis-asymmetric intramolecular Friedel-Crafts alkylation of N-tethered olefin pyrroles and conjugated enones to provide a variety of chiral tetrahydroindolizine derivatives in moderate to good yields and enantioselectivity (up to 93% ee). Pharmacological studies have shown that the active components in Dendranthema morifolium exhibit protective effects against ischemia/reperfusion injury; however, its pharmacological action on blood vessels has not yet been investigated. The purpose of the present study was to assess the effects of the total flavones extracted from D. morifolium (Ramat.) Tzvel. cv. Hangju (FDM) on the vasocontraction and proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). The tension of rat thoracic aortic rings was measured using a mechanical force transducer attached to a recording system. FDM induced a dose-dependent relaxation of rings with endothelium pre-contracted by either phenylephrine (PE; 10-6 mol/l) or a high concentration of potassium chloride (KCl; 60 mmol/l). FDM did not significantly affect the vasorelaxant effects on mechanically removed endothelium. In endothelium-denuded aortic rings depolarized by 60 mmol/l KCl, FDM inhibited the contraction induced by Ca2+. FDM reduced the transient contraction caused by PE in a Ca2+-free solution, but did not affect the contraction induced by phorbol ester. Furthermore, FDM inhibited the proliferation of VSMCs with or without growth stimulation by insulin. In conclusion, that the vasorelaxation induced by FDM in rat aortic rings is not dependent on the endothelium but is mediated via a reduction of the influx of extracellular Ca2+ through the voltage-dependent and receptor-operated channels and via the inhibition of the release of intracellular Ca2+ in VSMCs. We present a method to fabricate a super-hydrophobic surface with a self-healing ability on an aluminium alloy substrate. The coatings are obtained by combining a two-step process (first, the substrate is immersed in a solution of HCl, HF and H2O, and then in boiling water) and succeeding surface fluorination with a solution of poly(vinylidene-fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) and a fluoroalkyl silane. The morphological features and chemical composition were studied by scanning electron micrometry and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The prepared super-hydrophobic aluminium surfaces showed hierarchical structures forming pores, petals and particles with a contact angle of 161° and a sliding angle of 3°. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of noninvasive positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) on oxygenation status and prognosis in patients with acute lung injury induced by paraquat (PQ) poisoning. Methods: Patients with acute PQ-induced lung injury treated with NIPPV were admitted to an emergency intensive care unit. Changes in oxygenation status (respiratory rate and the partial pressure of alveolar O2 and CO2 [PaO2 and PaCO2, respectively]) after initial NIPPV were observed. Differences in inspiratory pressure (PI) between nonsurvivors and survivors were compared. The relationship between PI and the prognosis of patients with acute PQ-induced lung injury was evaluated. Findings: A total of 86 patients (47 women, 39 men; mean age, 33.5 [24.5] years [range, 22-61 years]) were included. There were significant differences in respiratory rate, PaO2, and PaCO2 from before to after initial NIPPV (respiratory rate, 35 [14] vs 26 [16] min-1 [P = 0.037]; PaO2, 61.8 [19.6] vs 73.5 [26.8] mm Hg [P = 0.046]; and PaCO2, 27.7 [16.4] vs 34.6 [19.2] mm Hg [P = 0.039]). The overall mortality rate was 75.6% (65/86) during a 28-day follow-up period. We observed a significant difference in initial PI (PIinit) between nonsurvivors and survivors (8.2 [4.3] vs 6.6 [3.8] cm H2O; P = 0.043). Furthermore, nonsurvivors had a greater maximal PI (PImax) than did survivors (21.6 [9.8] vs 15.4 [8.5] cm H2O; P = 0.022). Correlation analysis revealed that both PIinit and PImax were associated with a poor prognosis in patients with acute PQ-induced lung injury (PIinit, r = -0.29 [P = 0.038]; PImax, r = -0.31 [P = 0.042]). Implications: NIPPV may effectively improve oxygenation status in patients with acute PQ-induced lung injury, thereby relieving dyspnea and promoting the recovery of pulmonary function. PIinit and PImax may be important determinants of prognosis in acute PQ-induced lung injury. In this work, we present a method of fabricating super-hydrophobic surface on aluminum alloy substrate. The etching of aluminum surfaces has been performed using Beck's dislocation etchant for different time to create micrometer-sized irregular steps. An optimised etching time of 50 s is found to be essential before polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) coating, to obtain a highest water contact angle of 165±2° with a lowest contact angle hysteresis as low as 5±2°. The presence of patterned microstructure as revealed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) together with the low surface energy ultrathin RF-sputtered PTFE films renders the aluminum alloy surfaces highly super-hydrophobic. This study aims to observe the changes and the function of p38MAPK-HSP27 signaling pathways in acute lung injury (ALI) induced by acute ischemic kidney injury in rats. Wistar rats were randomly divided into Group A (control group), Group B (acute kidney injury group), and Group C (acute kidney injury +SB203580). The concentration of protein in BALF, neutrophil counts, PI, W/D; the concentration of TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1ß in plasma and BALF; and the concentrations of MDA and NO in the lung tissue started to increase 2 h after the experiment in Group B, which showed a significant difference compared with those in Groups A and C. The expressions of p-p38MAPK and p-HSP27 in the lung tissue began to increase 2 h after the experiment in Group B, which was different from those in Groups A and C. A significant increase was observed in the F-actin expression in Group B than that in Group A. In Group B, the correlation of cytokine TNF-α, IL-6, and p-p38MAPK in BALF was positive. Acute kidney injury (AKI) induced by bilateral renal arteriovenous clamp closure could activate p38MAPK-HSP27 signaling pathways and induce lung injury, which blocks the p38MAPK-HSP27 signal pathway to reduce the risk of lung injury. Despite a growing knowledge of nutrient limitation for mangrove species and how mangroves adapt to low nutrients, there is scant information about the relative importance of N:P ratio and leaf phenolics variability in determining nutrient conservation. In this study, we evaluated possible nutrient conservation strategies of a mangrove Rhizophora stylosa under nutrient limitation. 1. The leaf nutrient concentrations of R. stylosa changed with season, with the highest N concentration in winter and the highest P concentration in spring for both mature and senescent leaves. Leaf N and P concentrations decreased significantly during leaf senescence. Based on N:P ratios R. stylosa forest was N-limited. Accordingly, the nitrogen resorption efficiency (NRE) was significantly higher than phosphorus resorption efficiency (PRE) for the R. stylosa leaves during leaf senescence. The NRE and PRE both reached the highest in the autumn. Average N and P concentrations in the senescent leaves were 0.15% and 0.06% for R. stylosa, respectively, indicating a complete resorption of N and an incomplete resorption of P. There was a significant negative correlation between nitrogen resorption proficiency (NRP) and NRE, meanwhile phosphorus resorption proficiency (PRP) and PRE correlation was also highly significantly. 2. R. stylosa leaves contained relatively high tannin level. Total phenolics, extractable condensed tannins and total condensed tannins contents increased during leaf senescence, and changed between seasons. The lowest concentrations of total phenolics, extractable condensed tannins and total condensed tannins occurred in summer, total phenolics concentrations were inversely related to nitrogen or phosphorus concentrations. 3. Our results confirmed that resorption efficiency during leaf senescence depends on the type of nutrient limitation, and NRE was much higher than PRE under N-limited conditions. Conventional methods for rotor position detection of micro-gyroscopes include common exciting electrodes (single frequency) and common sensing electrodes (frequency multiplex), but they have encountered some problems. So we present a high resolution and low noise pick-off circuit for micro-gyroscopes which utilizes the time multiplex method. The detecting circuit adopts a continuous-time current sensing circuit for capacitance measurement, and its noise analysis of the charge amplifier is introduced. The equivalent output noise power spectral density of phase-sensitive demodulation is 120 nV/Hz1/2. Tests revealed that the whole circuitry has a relative capacitance resolution of 1 × 10-8. The nonideal factors of a liquid-suspended rotor micro-gyroscope include the gasliquid two-phase flow voids, medium temperature and its dielectric relaxation, in which the role of the nonideal factors on the capacitor dielectric constant is altered, thereby affecting the capacitance detection precision of the micro-gyroscope. By comparing four different liquid media, the experimental results reveal the nonideal character of the capacitor dielectric constant. Background: Long-term Helicobacter pylori infection leads to chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer, and gastric malignancies. Indigenous microflora in alimentary tract maintains a colonization barrier against pathogenic microorganisms. This study is aimed to observe the gastric and duodenum microflora alteration after H. pylori infection in Mongolian Gerbils model. Materials and Methods: A total of 18 Mongolian gerbils were randomly divided into two groups: control group and H. pylori group that were given H. pylori NCTC J99 strain intragastrically. After 12 weeks, H. pylori colonization was identified by rapid urease tests and bacterial culture. Indigenous microorganisms in stomach and duodenum were analyzed by culture method. Histopathologic examination of gastric and duodenum mucosa was also performed. Results: Three of eight gerbils had positive H. pylori colonization. After H. pylori infection, Enterococcus spp. and Staphylococcus aureus showed occurrences in stomach and duodenum. Lactobacillus spp. showed a down trend in stomach. The levels and localizations of Bifidobacterium spp., Bacteroides spp., and total aerobes were also modified. Bacteroides spp. significantly increased in H. pylori positive gerbils. No Enterobacteriaceae were detected. Positive colonization gerbils showed a higher histopathologic score of gastritis and a similar score of duodenitis. Conclusions: Long-term H. pylori colonization affected the distribution and numbers of indigenous microflora in stomach and duodenum. Successful colonization caused a more severe gastritis. Gastric microenvironment may be unfit for lactobacilli fertility after long-term H. pylori infection, while enterococci, S. aureus, bifidobacteria, and bacteroides showed their adaptations. A new type of capacitive humidity sensor is introduced in this paper. The sensor consists of two plate electrodes coated with MWCNT films and four pieces of isolating medium at the four corners of the sensor. According to capillary condensation, the capacitance signal of the sensor is sensitive to relative humidity (RH), which could be transformed to voltage signal by a capacitance to voltage converter circuit. The sensor is tested using different saturated saline solutions at the ambient temperature of 25 °C, which yielded approximately 11% to 97% RH, respectively. Study Design: To evaluate the effect of p38 pathway on spinal cord injury (SCI), a rat model of SCI was performed.Objective: We determined the effect of p38 on SCI and SCI related inflammation, apoptosis, and autophagy.Summary Of Background Data: SCI is a severe clinical problem worldwide. It is difficult to prevent cell necroptosis and promote the survival of residual neurons after SCI. p38, a class of mitogen-activated protein kinases, its effect on SCI and SCI related inflammation, apoptosis, and autophagy have not been studied very well.Methods: The rats were randomly divided into the following four groups: the sham-operated (sham) group, the SCI group, the SCI + vehicle group, and the SCI + SB203580 (10 mg/kg) group. The p38 inhibitor SB203580 was administered by oral (10 mg/kg/d) gavage once per day for 14 days. Neurological recovery was assessed using the Basso, Beattie, and Bresnahan locomotion rating scale. Apoptosis, autophagy, and inflammation related proteins were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kits or western blotting.Results: Our results showed that p38 was upregulated after SCI from day 3, which was paralleled with the levels of its proteins ATF-2, suggesting an increase in p38 activity. Our results showed administration of SB203580 attenuated histopathology and promoted locomotion recovery in rats after SCI. SB203580 administration significantly inhibited inflammatory cytokines levels as well as the inflammation signaling pathway. SB203580 administration also modulated the apoptosis and autophagy signaling pathway.Conclusion: Our findings suggest that p38 inhibitor SB203580 treatment alleviates secondary SCI by inhibiting inflammation and apoptosis, thereby promoting neurological and locomoter functional recovery, thus suggest the important role of p38 in neuronal protection after SCI.Level Of Evidence: N/A. Introduction: Angioedema represents self-limited, localized swelling of submucosal or subcutaneous tissues. While the underlying etiology may be undeterminable in the emergent setting, nonhistaminergic and histaminergic angioedema respond differently to therapeutic interventions, with implications for empiric treatment. Clinical features and outcome differences among nonhistaminergic vs histaminergic angioedema patients in the emergency department (ED) are poorly characterized. We aim to describe the clinical characteristics and outcomes among ED patients with angioedema by suspected etiology. Methods: This was a 10-year retrospective study of adult ED patients with angioedema, using data abstracted from the electronic health record. We evaluated univariable associations of select clinical features with etiology and used them to develop a multivariable logistic regression model for nonhistaminergic vs histaminergic angioedema. Results: Among 450 adult angioedema patients, the mean +/- standard deviation age was 57 +/- 18 years, and 264 (59%) were female. Among patients, 30% had suspected nonhistaminergic angioedema, 30% had suspected histaminergic angioedema, and 40% were of unknown etiology. As compared to histaminergic angioedema, nonhistaminergic angioedema was associated with angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEI) or use of angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARB) (odds ratio [OR] [60.9]; 95% confidence interval [CI], 23.16-160.14) and time of onset one hour or more prior to ED arrival (OR [5.91]; 95% CI, 1.87-18.70) and was inversely associated with urticaria (OR [0.05]; 95% CI, 0.02-0.15), dyspnea (OR [0.23]; 95% CI, 0.08-0.67), and periorbital or lip edema (OR [0.25]; 95% CI, 0.08-0.79 and OR [0.32]; 95% CI, 0.13-0.79, respectively). Conclusion: As compared to histaminergic angioedema, patients with nonhistaminergic angioedema were more likely to present one hour or more after symptom onset and take ACEI or ARB medications, and were less likely to have urticaria, dyspnea, or periorbital or lip angioedema. Ultra-high-frequency (UHF) method is regarded as an effective approach for partial discharge (PD) detection in gas insulated substation (GIS). The feature parameters representing UHF signal characteristics can be extracted from its waveform, and applied to PD source classification and mixed signals separation. In this study, an UHF signal feature extraction algorithm based on cumulative energy (CE) technique is proposed. The CE functions in time domain (TCE) and frequency domain (FCE) are calculated from UHF waveforms and their fast Fourier transform spectrums, respectively. The mathematical morphology gradient (MMG) operation is applied to TCE and FCE to characterise their rising behavior. The feature parameters including width, area and sharpness are extracted from CEs and MMGs in both time and frequency domain. Moreover, the extracted features are applied to UHF signals classification and mixed signals separation. First, experiments on four kinds of typical defects in a 252 kV GIS are performed, and the classification performance of the extracted features is examined with the acquired signals. Second, by clustering the extracted features with fuzzy maximum-likelihood algorithm, mixed UHF signals originated from multiple PD sources are successfully separated. The intermediates and byproducts formed during the ozonation of microcystin-LR (MC-LR, m/z = 995.5) and the probable degradation pathway were investigated at different initial molar ratios of ozone to MC-LR ([O3]0/[MC-LR]0). Seven reaction intermediates with m/z ≥ 795.4 were observed by LC/MS, and four of them (m/z = 815.4, 827.3, 853.3 and 855.3) have not been previously reported. Meanwhile, six aldehyde-based byproducts with molecular weights of 30-160 were detected for the first time. Intermediates structures demonstrated that ozone reacted with two sites of MC-LR: the diene bonds in the Adda side chain and the Mdha amino acid in the cyclic structure. The fragment from the Adda side chain oxidative cleavage could be further oxidized to an aldehyde with a molecular weight of 160 at low [O3]0/[MC-LR]0. Meanwhile, the polypeptide structure of MC-LR was difficult to be further oxidized, unless [O3]0/[MC-LR]0 > 10. After further oxidation of the intermediates, five other aldehyde-based byproducts were detected by GC/MS: formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, isovaleraldehyde, glyoxal and methylglyoxal. Formaldehyde, isovaleraldehyde and methylglyoxal were the dominant species. The yields of the aldehydes varied greatly, depending on the value of [O3]0/[MC-LR]0. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Recently, a suspicion arose that the free electrons in planetary nebulae (PNs) and H ii regions might have nonthermal energy distributions. In this scenario, a κ index is introduced to characterize the electron energy distributions, with smaller κ values indicating larger deviations from Maxwell–Boltzmann distributions. Assuming that this is the case, we determine the κ values for a sample of PNs and H ii regions by comparing the intensities of [O iii] collisionally excited lines and the hydrogen Balmer jump. We find the average κ indices of PNs and H ii regions to be 27 and 32, respectively. Correlations between the resultant κ values and various physical properties of the nebulae are examined to explore the potential origin of nonthermal electrons in photoionized gaseous nebulae. However, no positive result is obtained. Thus, the current analysis does not lend support to the idea that κ-distributed electrons are present in PNs and H ii regions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background and purposes: To compare the dosimetry for the left-sided breast cancer treatment using five different radiotherapy techniques. Materials and methods: Twenty patients with left sided breast cancer were treated with conservative surgery followed by radiotherapy. They were planned using five different radiotherapy techniques, including: 1) conventional tangential wedge-based fields (TW); 2) field-in-field (FIF) technique; 3) tangential inverse planning intensity-modulated radiation therapy (T-IMRT); 4) multi-field IMRT (M-IMRT); and 5) volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT). The CTV, PTV and OARs including the heart, the regions of coronary artery (CA), the contralateral breast, the left and right lung were delineated. The PTV dose was prescribed 50Gy and V47.5≥95%. Same dose constraint was used for all five plans. The planned volumetric dose of PTV and PRV-OARs were compared and analyzed. Results: Except VMAT (Average V47.5 was 94.72%±1.2%), all the other four plans were able to meet the V95% (V47.5) requirement. T-IMRT plan improved the PTV dose homogeneity index (HI) by 0.02 and 0.03 when compared to TW plan and VMAT plan, and decreased the V5, V10 and V20 of all PRV-OARs. However, the high dose volume (≥ 30Gy) of the PRV-OARs in T-IMRT plan had no statistically significant difference compared with the other two inverse plans. In all five plans, the dose volume of coronary artery area showed a strong correlation to the dose volume of the heart (the correlation coefficients were 0.993, 0.996, 1.000, 0.995 and 0.986 respectively). Conclusion: Compared to other techniques, the T-IMRT technology reduced radiation dose exposure to normal tissues and maintained reasonable target homogeneity, VMAT is not recommended for left-sided breast cancer treatment. Background: Dendritic cells (DCs) are professional antigen presenting cells that initiate specific immune responses against tumor cells. Transcription factor RBP-J-mediated Notch signaling regulates DC genesis, but whether this pathway regulates DC function in anti-tumor immunity remains unclear. In the present work we attempted to identify the role of Notch signaling in DC-mediated anti-tumor immune response. Results: When DCs were co-inoculated together with tumor cells, while the control DCs repressed tumor growth, the RBP-J deficient DCs had lost tumor repression activity. This was most likely due to that DCs with the conditionally ablated RBP-J were unable to evoke anti-tumor immune responses in the solid tumors. Indeed, tumors containing the RBP-J deficient DCs had fewer infiltrating T-cells, B-cells and NK-cells. Similarly, the draining lymph nodes of the tumors with RBP-J-/- DCs were smaller in size, and contained fewer cells of the T, B and NK lineages, as compared with the controls. At the molecular level, the RBP-J deficient DCs expressed lower MHC II, CD80, CD86, and CCR7, resulting in inefficient DC migration and T-cell activation in vitro and in vivo. T-cells stimulated by the RBP-J deficient DCs did not possess efficient cytotoxicity against tumor cells, in contrast to the control DCs. Conclusion: The RBP-J-mediated Notch signaling is essential for DC-dependent anti-tumor immune responses. The deficiency of RBP-J impairs the DC-based anti-tumor immunity through affecting series of processes including maturation, migration, antigen presentation and T-cell activation. Purpose: The purpose of this work was to evaluate the absorbed dose to Al2O3 dosimeter at various depths of water phantom in radiotherapy photon beams by Monte Carlo simulation and evaluate the beam quality dependence. Methods: The simulations were done using EGSnrc. The cylindrical Al2O3 dosimeter ([uppercase_phi_synonym]4 mm×1 mm) was placed at the central axis of the water phantom ([uppercase_phi_synonym]16 cm×16 cm) at depths between 0.5 and 8 cm. The incident beams included monoenergetic photon beams ranging from 1 to 18 MeV, 60Co γ beams, Varian 6 MV beams using phase space files based on a full simulation of the linac, and Varian beams between 4 and 24 MV using Mohan’s spectra. The absorbed dose to the dosimeter and the water at the corresponding position in the absence of the dosimeter, as well as absorbed dose ratio factor fmd, was calculated. Results: The results show that fmd depends obviously on the photon energy at the shallow depths. However, as the depth increases, the change in fmd becomes small, beyond the buildup region, the maximum discrepancy of fmd to the average value is not more than 1%. Conclusions: These simulation results confirm the use of Al2O3 dosimeter in radiotherapy photon beams and clearly indicate that more attention should be paid when using such a dosimeter in the buildup region of high-energy radiotherapy photon beams. OBJECTIVE: To testify that the asialoorosomucoid (ASOR) prepared by us has liver-targeting specificity and to investigate its pharmacokinetic characteristics. METHODS: The distribution of 125I-ASOR in vivo was determined by single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and immunohistochemical technique after 125I-ASOR was injected into Sprague-Dawley (S–D) rats through their caudal veins. In vitro, different doses of pEGFP-N1 plasmid were transfected into both HepG2 cells and HT1080 cells with the use of ASOR-poly-L-lysine. At 24 and 48 h after transfection, the expression of green fluorescent protein (GFP) was determined under fluorescent microscope. Pharmacokinetic parameters were calculated according to two-compartment open system model with first-order kinetics. RESULTS: SPECT images showed that 125I-ASOR was located only in liver/stomach and root of caudal vein / bladder at 10 min after injection. The 125I-ASOR radioactivities of organs taken out from S–D rats were different at different times, and about 63% of 125I-ASOR was located in the liver at 10 min after injection. At 30 min after injection a peak of radioactivity was seen in stomach. The times of these two radioactivity peaks were different. Immunohistochemical study of liver frozen sections showed that ASOR was combined mainly with hepatocyte membrane, especially in areas with rich blood flow. In vitro study showed that ASOR targeted specifically cells with asialoglycoprotein receptor (ASGr). GFP expression was detected in HepG2 cells but not in HT1080 cells. Furthermore, the more quantity of pEGFP-N1 transfected and the longer expression time, the higher GFP expression level was in HepG2 cells. The 125I-ASOR pharmacokinetics equation for liver was Ct = 662216e−3.362t  + 8896e−2343t. 125I-ASOR was excreted from liver slowly after an initial rapid decrease. The pharmacokinetic equation for stomach was Ct = –114815e−1.7t  + 1148153e−15t and the half-life of 125I-ASOR in stomach was 4.62 h. CONCLUSIONS: ASOR prepared by us could be an efficient gene transfer vector, ASOR was distributed mainly in the liver and stomach and had high targeting specificity to hepatocytes or hepatic originating cells. A method using both patient geometric and dosimetric information was proposed to predict dose-volume histograms (DVHs) of organs at risk (OARs) for a nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC) intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) plan. A total of 106 nine-field IMRT NPC plans were used in this study. Twenty-six plans were randomly selected as testing cases, and the remaining plans were used as the training data. A method employing geometric and dosimetric information was developed for OAR DVH prediction. The dosimetric information was derived from an initial dose calculation using a simple unoptimized conformal plan. The DVHs were also predicted using only the geometric information. The DVH prediction model was a generalized regression neural network (GRNN). Mean absolute error (MAE) and R2 values were introduced to evaluate DVH prediction accuracy. Significant differences in the DVH prediction accuracy were found between the method employing the geometric and dosimetric information and the method utilizing the geometric information for the brainstem (R2, 0.98 versus 0.95, p   =  0.007; MAE, 3.52% versus 7.19%, p   =  0.002), spinal cord (R2, 0.98 versus 0.96, p   <  0.001; MAE, 2.80% versus 4.36%, p   <  0.001), left optic nerve (R2, 0.90 versus 0.77, p   =  0.014; MAE, 3.07% versus 11.29%, p   =  0.025) and other organs. On average, the R2 value increased by ~6.7% and the MAE value decreased by ~46.7% after adding the dosimetric information to the DVH prediction. We developed a method for predicting DVHs of OARs in NPC IMRT plans by using geometric and dosimetric information. Adding dosimetric information can help predict the DVHs of OARs in NPC IMRT plans. A new method for fabricating ordered porous silicon is reported. A two-dimensional silica nanosphere array is used as a template with a hydrofluoric acid–hydrogen peroxide solution for etching the nanospheres. The initial diameter and distribution of the holes in the resulting porous silicon layer are determined by the size and distribution of the silica nanospheres. The corrosion time can be used to control the depths of the holes. It is found that the presence of a SiO2 layer, formed by the oxidation of the rough internal surface of the hole, is the primary reason allowing the corrosion to proceed. Ultraviolet reflection and thermal conductivity measurements show that the diameter and distribution of the holes have a great influence on properties of the porous silicon. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
