Adequate nutrition is a vital aspect in the proper development of pregnancy. Micronutrients are one of the most important dietary components during pregnancy, since they play multiple roles in both the proper development of pregnancy and embryonic development. Ensuring an appropriate supply of micronutrients during pregnancy reduces the risk of obstetric and fetal complications and even the development of pathologies in adulthood. For this reason, the nutritional assessment of the pregnant woman is imperative, so that her daily dietary requirements can be individualized, guided about the different food sources where she can obtain these components and educated her about the important functions they perform, avoiding these imbalances during pregnancy. Nutrition can be a facilitating theme for promoting broad readings of our surroundings, given its relationship with biological, social, political, and economic aspects. It is interesting to have an overview of how the theme has been approached, aiming for continuity or the development of other approaches. Thus, we sought to construct a state of knowledge on the works that addressed the theme in science education. For this purpose, 171 works from 2012 to 2022 were gathered from the capes Periodicals Portal, the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations bdtd and the Proceedings of enpec. The data were organized in a spreadsheet, distributed by year, journal and region, and divided into thematic sections of Literature Reviews, Analysis of Textbook and Curriculum Debates, Works in the Context of Basic Education and Works in the Context of Teacher Training and/or Practice. The results showed few works in the North and Northeast of the country. Various approaches were observed, with a marked presence of a nutritional approach and its use for contextualizing or addressing its relationship with curriculum contents. Interdisciplinarity and the need for teacher training were also addressed. We emphasize and advocate for approaches that, in addition to broadly addressing the theme, value its connection with the context and realities of the students. From this perspective, much can be thought and built in science education with this theme. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

FISHERY products , *VACUUM packaging , *SMALL-scale fisheries , *INDIGENOUS peoples , *FOOD security - Abstract
Amazonian fishery products are an indispensable component in the food security of the Amazonian peoples of Ecuador. This review work analyses the main preservation techniques that guarantee the quality and safety of Amazonian fishery products that have a relatively short shelf life, using a descriptive methodology based on the PRISMA method where several investigations have demonstrated the use of different preservation technologies (freezing, salting, smoking, vacuum packaging) applied in the area that are capable of extending the post-mortem shelf life of fishery products. Freezing processes have a greater capacity to extend the shelf life of fish products compared to conventional refrigeration, however, in this area artisanal fishing is practised and an effective cold chain is not guaranteed. Vacuum packaging has great potential for the packaging of fresh fish products. The use of non-thermal technologies, such as traditional salting and smoking by native peoples, is an alternative for the preservation of local fish products. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SLEEP quality , *SCREEN time , *PHYSICAL activity , *NUTRITION , *LEISURE - Abstract
Background: this study aimed to assess how the COVID-19 lockdown (March to June 2020) affected children's sleep quality, physical activity, screen time, and nutrition. Material and methods: the survey consisted of 479 children from the SENDO project, a pediatric cohort in Spain, aged 4-5 years. The BEAR questionnaire was used to evaluate sleep quality. Hierarchical models with two-level clustering were used to account for intra-cluster correlation between siblings, and the difference regression method was used to study the association between changes in screen consumption and physical activity and changes in sleep quality. Results: the results showed an increase in the consumption of homemade pastries and snacks. Sleep quality worsened significantly during confinement, with a mean score on the BEAR scale of 0.52 before, 1.43 during, and 1.07 after confinement. Although sleep quality improved significantly after the end of confinement, it remained worse than before. The average daily screen time increased from 1.13 hours before confinement to 2.65 hours during confinement. Physical activity decreased during confinement, with the mean number of hours per day decreasing from 1.27 to 0.79. Children who spent more time on screens during confinement had worse sleep quality, as indicated by their higher scores on the BEAR scale. We used the difference regression method to identify a statistically significant association between the increased screen time for leisure hours and the worsening of children's sleep quality during confinement. Conclusion: we observed a significant relationship between confinement and reduced sleep quality. Although the end of the lockdown led to a slight improvement, the average BEAR scale score remained higher post-confinement, suggesting that the consequences of the lockdown may persist over time.

CONFLICT of interests , *CONFLICT management , *HEALTH policy , *NUTRITION , *ADVERTISING - Abstract
The purpose of this position update is to describe the main scenarios in which conflicts of interest (COI) arise, as well as guidelines to guide the conduct of SLAN and its members in the context of relationships with commercial entities. The content of this document was defined, reviewed, and approved by the current Conflict of Interest Committee (COI Committee), commissioned by SLAN and comprised of academy members who share the conviction about the need to avoid COI in actions related to nutrition and health. The power and interference of commercial entities in the food system and health policies have increased over time, weakening and obstructing the implementation of actions that promote healthy food environments. One of the strategies through which corporations engaged in the development, marketing, advertising, and promotion of health-damaging food and beverage products operate is by establishing relationships with nutrition societies and organizations to undermine these actions, leading to COI. Through this document, SLAN proposes a series of measures to prevent, transparently manage conflicts of interest, and avoid the interference of commercial entities in nutrition research, education, and policies. LIFE history theory , *ESSENTIAL fatty acids , *DECAPODA , *MARINE biology , *UNSATURATED fatty acids - Abstract
In this brief, non-exhaustive essay, we review major adaptive changes in reproductive and developmental traits of decapod crustaceans, which have passed through evolutionary transitions from ancestral life in coastal marine environments to brackish, limnic, polar, or deep-sea habitats. Two major approaches can be recognised in studies of life-history evolution, focussing on: (1) developmental changes in adaptive physiological or biochemical traits of successive ontogenetic stages, comparing, for instance, osmoregulatory capabilities in larvae, juveniles, and adults ("ontogeny of adaptations" perspective); (2) adaptive changes in the modes of reproduction and development, e.g., enhanced maternal energy investment in egg production, abbreviated, non-feeding larval development ("adaptations in ontogeny"). Using both scientific approaches, Christoph D. Schubart has significantly contributed to our understanding of evolutionary transitions in crustaceans. In our essay, we pay particular attention to the significance of nutritional selection factors in relation to presumably adaptive developmental, physiological, and biochemical traits in different life-history stages. In this context, we highlight the key roles of lipids and carotenoid pigments, in particular of essential polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) and astaxanthin. While PUFAs and other lipid compounds have received wide scientific attention, we propose that future studies should further analyse also the potential role of astaxanthin and other essential carotenoids. NILE tilapia , *PRINCIPAL components analysis , *SOYBEAN meal , *LEMNA minor , *WATER hyacinth , *FISH feeds , *TILAPIA - Abstract
Objective. To evaluate the nutritional composition of duckweed (DW) (Lemna minor) and water hyacinth (WH) (Eichhornia crassipes) and its effect on the apparent digestibility of dry matter (%, ADDM), apparent digestibility of crude protein (%, ADCP) and the apparent digestibility of the crude lipid (%, ADCL) in the nutrition of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). Material and methods. The DW and WH were used to formulate nine isoproteic (32.47%), isolipidic (5.46%) and isoenergetic (16.45 MJ kg-1) diets, with three replicates and 15 male tilapia (36.36± 1.16 g) per repetition: 0% (T0); 10% (T10); 15% (T15); 20% (T20) and 25% (T25), respectively random. A principal component analysis (PCA) was applied. Results. The crude protein (%) of the WH and the DW, were 21.72% and 27.37% (p<0.05), respectively. Fish fed with WH and DW, up to 10 and 15% inclusion in the diet, respectively, did not show significant differences (p>0.05) for ADDM. However, for ADCP and ADCL, up to 15 and 20%, respectively, significant differences (p>0.05) were not observed. Conclusions. Water hyacinth and duckweed meals were an alternative vegetable protein source, which can partially replace soybean meal and cornmeal in tilapia diets. The PCA suggests that the control diet, 10% WH, 10-15% DW, showed the best results in terms of the apparent digestibility of the nutrients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Introduction: Malnutrition is an inpatient complication associated with increased morbidity and mortality, modifiable by improving nutritional intake. For this, it is essential to know the patient’s satisfaction regarding intra-hospital feeding. Currently there is no validated and adapted tool for the Chilean population to evaluate this area. Aim: to develop a cross-cultural adaptation of the validated ACHFPSQ questionnaire, which has shown to be capable of identifying aspects to improve in the quality and planning of intrahospital feeding and applying corrective measures based on its observations with a positive impact on the food service. Materials and methods: The methodology of this process, applied in an internal forum between the authors, was based on a series of translations from the original language and reverse into Chilean Spanish that were unified in a consensus instrument with which a pilot test was carried out in 30 patients. After this test, the respondents’ suggestions were collected to apply modifications and a quality control for cross-cultural adaptations to define the final version of the instrument. Results: the authors’ forum evaluated the translations positively, having to apply a single explanatory modification to the instrument. In the pilot test, 93% required assistance to complete the survey. Only two respondents made suggestions, with no impact on the final instrument. Discussion and conclusion: the questionnaire becomes a new tool available to evaluate service quality standards and other nutritional indicators, allowing to objectify the impact of possible changes in food services. EQUALITY , *PRODUCE markets , *SOCIAL reproduction , *CITY promotion , *FOOD supply , *ECOLOGICAL modernization , *GENTRIFICATION - Abstract
Agroecological and artisanal produce markets have multiplied as part of a broader process that promotes food citizenship oriented towards justice and sustainability. However, this phenomenon is immersed in the complexity of food systems and entails great heterogeneity. This article analyzes the relationship between these types of initiatives and the gentrification processes in some of the areas where they are established. The topic is approached from ethnographic material collected in the framework of a research project on agroecological production initiatives and artisanal transformation in Mexico City and on the citizens’ collectives that facilitate the commercialization of this production. The findings show that in certain areas of the city these markets shape a broader set of “alternative” food supply networks linked to gentrification processes and the findings identify some of the factors that affect the reproduction of social inequalities within the framework of these initiatives. At the same time, the study underscores the agency of the actors involved and documents their abilities to use these spaces through the growing demand for fresh, healthy, and locally-sourced food to advance their own ends in areas subject to gentrification. Food and nutrition are part of the lifestyle, that is, the type of habits and customs that a person has, it can be beneficial for health, food meets the nutritional benefits required by the body, to maintain good condition. The objective is to describe a prevention program for Chronic Childhood Malnutrition for detected schoolchildren. A good diet in childhood will provide the nutrients that they need in the metabolic process and they will benefit from all the contributions contained in the foods that satisfy the needs of the cells and allow the adequate development of the organism in order to provide physical resistance consistent with daily life if you maintain a balanced diet. Chronic childhood malnutrition is the result of insufficient consumption of foods that contain nutrients that are absorbed by the body, both in childhood and during the mother's pregnancy, all of which leads to weight loss and growth arrest. psychological and psychomotor development, such as the appearance of infectious diseases as a consequence of poor functioning of the body. The role of the nurse in the prevention of chronic childhood malnutrition is aimed at promoting actions that help alleviate chronic childhood malnutrition, through the selection of foods that will be ingested to provide the nutrients that the infant's body requires and avoid diseases serious that can cause death. Proper nutrition in childhood is crucial for optimal development and disease prevention. Sociocultural factors can influence children's dietary practices and nutritional status. The aim of this research was to evaluate sociocultural factors and the nutritional status of children under 3 years old in a childcare center. An observational cross-sectional prospective study was conducted. Sociocultural factors were assessed through a survey, and nutritional status was evaluated using anthropometric measures. A diverse prevalence of nutritional states was observed, with a significant percentage of children being overweight or underweight. Sociocultural factors, such as food insecurity, showed a high prevalence and a significant association with children's nutritional status. The results highlight the importance of addressing sociocultural factors in promoting childhood nutrition and suggest the need for specific interventions to improve children's nutritional status in this context.

Background. Currently, articles based on polyethylene and polypropylene have become an important element to solve social needs. However, these products take between 100 and 1000 years to decompose. Therefore, the need arises to look for new strategies that allow the degradation of these products in a shorter period of time. Objetive. Determine the capacity of the larvae of Galleria mellonella L. (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) and Tenebrio molitor L. (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) to degrade bags, straws, glasses and face masks. Methodology. In the laboratory, five experiments were carried out with third and fourth instar larvae of G. mellonella and T. molitor. In each experiment, the treatments (bags, straws, cups, and masks) and the G. mellonella and T. molitor larvae were placed in a plastic container with a tight-fitting lid. Afterward, the larvae were weighed every 24 hours for 10 days to record the consumption of the treatments. Results. In experiments 1 and 2, no statistical difference was observed in the consumption of polyethylene and biodegradable bags and straws by the larvae of G. mellonella and T. molitor. In contrast, a significant statistical difference was observed between treatments in the pupae record. In the results of experiments 3 and 4, a significant statistical difference was observed between the treatments in the consumption of glasses (polystyrene and polyhydroxyalkanoate) and in the development of pupae of G. mellonella and T. molitor. In experiment 5, no significant statistical difference was observed between treatments in the consumption of masks and development of G. mellonella pupae. Implications. In this research work, basic information was generated on the consumption of bags, straws, cups, and face masks by G. mellonella and T. molitor. In the case of the consumption of face masks, it is the first record of the consumption of this article by G. mellonella larvae. Conclusions. G. mellonella and T. molitor consume products based on polyethylene, polystyrene and polyhydroxyalkanoate, likewise G. mellonella consumes face masks, essential product to avoid infections during the pandemic generated by the COVID-19 coronavirus.

The aim of this work is 1) to create a valid, reliable instrument with which to evaluate the risk perception of children and adolescents regarding their use of technology (cell phones, Internet, and video games); and 2) to analyze the frequency with which some risk behaviors occur in relation to perception, technology use and age. 807 children and adolescents from the province of Cordoba (Spain) answered an ad hoc questionnaire with several instruments: sociodemographic data; problematic use of cell phones, Internet, and video games; and risk perception with the Scale on Risk Perception of Technology Use for children and adolescents (EPRUT). The results obtained from the factor analysis reveal that the RPSTU has three dimensions, related to cell phones, Internet, and video games, respectively. Differences were observed in the relationship between age and risk perception, with older people having the highest risk perception. Assessing risk perception will favor the detection and development of prevention programs for the use of technology in children and adolescents. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Analyze the mechanisms deployed by the State to establish its institutionalizing intervention on the diets of the populations through the School Breakfast program in Mexico. Approach: Institutions are inserted in the analysis of power through dispositives from the perspective of governmentality. The exercise of power through feeding programs requires discourses focused on the correct diet, the participation of expert agents, the constitution of subjects of assistance and, simultaneously, the freedom and desire of the subjects of government. Methodological approach: The theoretical perspective of governmentality of Michel Foucault and the neoinstitutionalist current is taken up, to analyze the power mechanisms that enable the exercise of government, and enable the governmental capacity to institutionalize biological and food processes through the implementation of food programs. Conclusions: The School Breakfast program establishes power games between the various participating actors. Food as a field of knowledge and intervention multiplies the poles from which power is exercised, both from the populations and from the State. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

WEBSITES , *GOVERNMENT policy , *SEARCH engines , *SOCIOECONOMIC factors , *SOCIAL interaction , *FOOD preferences , *SOCIAL space - Abstract
Objective: Identify and describe the variables and tools used in the investigations of lifestyles in Mexico about food. Methodology: A systematic literature review was carried out. The search for documents was carried out on the Internet on Clarivate's Web of Science platform, with the words "lifestyle", "food", "Mexico or Mexican" and "habitus", with an age of ten years. Results: Three variables identified in the conceptualization of lifestyles considered: 1) characteristics of the individuals, tastes, and preferences; 2) social interactions; and 3) socioeconomic aspects, however, the aspects of social space and its interactions have been neglected. The investigations have mainly focused on issues such as obesity and diabetes, focusing in 2020 on dietary modifications from the Covid-19 alert. Limitations: Not having expanded the selection of documents using other search engines and using search terms in English. Conclusions: The analysis of lifestyles requires a holistic vision where the three variables presented allow making more accurate decisions on public policy, in this sense, delving into the social space and its interactions becomes necessary. Introduction: There is a worldwide trend of increasing rates of overweight and obesity in children under 5 years of age. Mothers' beliefs, perceptions, and attitudes towards feeding practices and obesity have direct implications on their children's health. Aim: To explore beliefs about feeding practices and childhood obesity among mothers with children under five years of age in northwestern Mexico. Methodology: Qualitative study with ethnographic approach. Using purposive sampling, nine semistructured interviews were conducted with women with an average of 12 years of education. Results: Beliefs included insecurity in assuming the role of mother, a low perception of family support, and beliefs that were not aligned with the recommendations of exclusive breastfeeding and introduction of complementary foods. In addition, these held the belief that obesity is not a problem due to the young age of their children. Conclusions: There is ambivalence between the participants' beliefs and their practices regarding feeding and childhood obesity. It is imperative to develop education and communication strategies that provide evidence-based information that is easily accessible and available to mothers to prevent nutrition problems during early childhood. - Abstract
This study shows the abundance of contamination by microplastics (MPs) and the first record of contamination by MPs in bats. Additionally, we tried to understand the mechanism of the environmental contamination of bats. Therefore, the digestive and respiratory tracts from 81 adult bats belonging to 25 species were extracted for analysis. Bats were captured in different locations in the Brazilian Amazon (Altamira, Bragança, Brasil Novo, Medicilândia, Nova Timboteua, Placas, São Félix do Xingu, Uruará and Vitória do Xingu, all in the state of Pará). The results showed that all species were contaminated with MPs in at least one of the analyzed systems. For the digestive system, the form of contamination occurs through bioaccumulation and biomagnification by the ingestion of contaminated food or water. In the case of the respiratory system, contamination occurs through the inhalation of MPs suspended in the atmospheric air. The different foraging characteristics of bats, the type of capture strategy for this food, and the type of habitat reinforce the idea that plastic contaminants are present in all environments.
