China's progressive assumption as a major actor on the African scene needs critical academic attention and examination. Although there are undoubtedly varied benefits, there are also concerns about whether China's win-win rhetoric is sincere or just empty propaganda. This paper contributes to the debate by examining the relationship between China and Africa through the lens of neo-colonialism. In this regard, the paper examines China's involvement in the textiles and mining industries of Ghana as a case study to argue whether the partnership between China and Africa is one that actually promotes development or engenders a new trend of neo-colonialism. Since this research focuses on areas such as partnership (i.e., between Ghana and China) and illegal mining with its effects, it intersects four of the SDGs (clean water and sanitation [SDG 6]; sustainable cities and communities [SDG 11]; life below water [SDG 14]; and partnership for the goals [SDG 17]. RESOURCE exploitation , *FISHERIES , *FISH conservation , *SUSTAINABILITY , *DECISION making , *SUSTAINABLE development - Abstract
Every activity that involves exploitation of natural resources, such as fishing, needs to be organized and conducted based on information from monitoring programs to allow continuous evaluation. With the increasing fishing pressure in Brazil, the understanding of the importance of fisheries monitoring programs and how they can inform and assist in conservation decision-making remains limited. Based on the literature on fisheries and participatory conservation, we call attention to the need to generate information on the national fisheries sector in order to improve fisheries in the country. Given the context of the need to generate information on fishing stocks under exploitation, as well as to identify potential alternative fisheries and carry out various sectoral analyses in compliance with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, we present and discuss in the present paper the lack of a system of continuous fishing monitoring in Brazil and its effects on the fisheries sustainability in the country. - Abstract
This paper problematizes the operation of bio-ecopolitical strategies that mobilize security and the concept of gender to regulate populations. The strategies, which belong to global program documents issued by two international authorities – the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) –, operate for the security of a sustainable future on the planet. Based on tools of Michel Foucault’s biopolitics and of ecopolitics, this study highlights women as a vulnerable population in environmental programs as shown by statistics and the concern for the future on the planet. Attention is paid to the way in which gender and environmental relations are developed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper identifies the key dimensions in the evaluation of a public investment project of environmental transformation carried out in Moravia neighborhood in Medellín, Colombia. The Sustainable Development Goals approach is adopted through a modified five-dimensional scale applied to 197 inhabitants of the area of influence. Confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation models were used to derive first and second order models that could be used to define the scale. From the model, the identification of appropriate variables that can effectively contribute to the recognition of sustainable development to optimize the destination of public resources, as well as the sustainability over time of the projects for a better design of public policies are derived. The purpose of this paper is to trace the evolution of development aid in Malawi from 1964, when the country became independent, to date. It also analyses sustainable development in the light of democracy in Malawi and local reactions to the former by the citizens. The paper contends that development aid needs to be linked to the notion of local development in Malawi. It notes that development was a key word that was popularly used during the reign of the founding president of Malawi, Dr Kamuzu Hastings Banda (1964 to 1994). For Banda, it was critical to have development which simply meant food security, decent housing and clothes. The paper also pays attention to local actors' responses to development aid. COMPUTER software industry , *BUSINESS software , *RESEARCH questions , *COMMERCIALIZATION , *COMPUTER software , *DECISION making - Abstract
Due to competitive markets, the software business wants faster, better, and cheaper solutions in a short amount of time. Software reuse emerges as a viable solution to these demands since it offers significant benefits, such as increased quality and efficiency and lower development costs and effort, as well as shorter commercialization times. This research aims to study and understand the state of the practice of software reuse in Colombia, to make comparisons with related works, and to offer an instrument for decision-making in companies that adopt these practices. To reach these objectives, three stages were proposed. In the first stage, the research questions were defined. In the second stage, a survey was developed, evaluated, and carried out to validate successful practices and adoption barriers in the context of the Colombian software industry. Finally, the results were analyzed and reported. This paper showed and evidenced the expectations, adoption barriers, and factors influencing the success of software reuse in Colombian industrial environments. In the same way, the experience from the development of this work serves as a roadmap for other regions that want to analyze the current state of reuse. Nevertheless, each organization needs to determine its capabilities and find the appropriate factors to be adopted to its context. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

SUSTAINABLE development reporting , *STOCK price indexes , *STOCK exchanges , *CONTENT analysis , *PAPER pulp - Abstract
The objective of this article is to analyze the content of environmental disclosure of industrial companies participating in the Corporate Sustainability Index (ISE) of the Brazilian Stock Exchange (B3) from 2009 to 2016, based on the Stakeholders' Theory perspective. We adopt a descriptive approach, with qualitative and quantitative analysis of secondary data that we analyze by means of content analysis and statistical techniques. The data collection took place from the institutional site of each organization to obtain the Annual Sustainability Reports. The reports went through text analysis, which resulted in an inventory of words related to the concept of sustainability. The results indicate that the analyzed companies have similarities with regard to the content disclosed in the Annual Sustainability Reports. Such similarities occur in spite of the fact that companies operate in different industrial segments (petrochemical, food, wood, pulp and paper products and personal use products) and probably come from a homogeneous perception of the segments interested in the information, which would be in reduced number. Although the surveyed companies operate in different segments, they are subject to similar pressures by stakeholders and that imposes an apparent homogeneity to their reports. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

TECHNOLOGY transfer , *RENEWABLE energy transition (Government policy) , *SUSTAINABILITY , *EVIDENCE gaps , *ENERGY industries , *AGRICULTURE - Abstract
Objective: This investigation aimed to understand the role of intermediaries in the socio-technical transitions toward sustainability, according to the literature from 2010 to 2022. Methodology: For this, a systematic literature review was carried out from the Methodi Ordinatio, which resulted in an analysis of 42 papers considered most relevant according to the topic addressed. Originality/Relevance: Transitions to sustainability and intermediaries are configured as an emerging field of research. This study is, therefore, relevant in identifying advances in scientific production, highlighting intrinsic aspects of the subject, as well as gaps for future research. Results: Based on the characterization of the studies, the results show growth in the publications in recent years, with the largest expansion from 2018. The greatest focus was empirical studies, especially regarding sustainable transitions in the energy sector, followed by the industrial, agricultural, mobility and transportation, and civil construction sectors. Moreover, we found that intermediary actors may contribute to sustainability transitions in several ways. They perform roles in supporting innovation, financing projects, managing networks, mobilizing resources, transferring technology, aligning goals, and supporting the implementation and renewal of policies, for instance. Social contributions to management: Understanding the process in which intermediaries are configured in the transitions to sustainability is essential to understand the changes of an environmental, social and economic nature in the most diverse sectors in contemporary times. Objective: The present work aims to explore the concept of Smart Sustainable Cities, create the correlation between the terms Smart Cities and Sustainable Development, map technologies and projects implemented in this model of urban agglomeration, and identify the benefits generated for sustainable development, through the SDGs. Methodology: A content analysis was carried out using the Methodi Ordinatio, a systematic literature review multicriteria methodology. Relevance: Smart Sustainable Cities arise with the aim of promoting technological development, but also facing the problems generated by cities. However, the concepts and structures of these cities are not clear, as well as which technologies are implemented and their impacts on sustainable development. Results: Smart Sustainable Cities generate benefits for the three sustainable axes, in greater proportion for the Social axis, followed by the Environmental axis, and with less impact for the Economic axis. Contributions: This paper contributes to the academy by increasing the theoretical material, and to decision-makers, by highlighting the structures that make up the Smart Sustainable Cities as well as their results for sustainable development. This review paper aims to analyze the academic perspectives with which the concept of sustainability has been approached in the fields of administration and organizational studies. Methodologically, it consists of a review of 130 documents published in 22 scientific journals recognized by Publindex-Minciencias in the organizational field and related disciplines in Colombia, focusing on the period 2010-2020. As a result, 28 thematic categories and qualitative analyses of the conceptual perspectives that underlie them are presented. It was identified that these concepts are used indiscriminately in the literature and that three thematic approaches coexist: 1) sustainability as a strategy for economic durability, 2) sustainability as a conscious economic developmental perspective and 3) sustainability as a sociocultural and political project of universal transformation. The change of government in Uruguay in March 2020 led to some modifications of the country's environmental and climate institutions, including the creation of the new Ministry of Environment and the transfer of the National Climate Change Response System (SNRCC by its acronym in Spanish) to that orbit. The departmental elections of September 2020 brought also some changes in the Northeast region of Uruguay (departments of Rivera, Tacuarembó and Cerro Largo). Considering this context, this work assumes a theoretical perspective of multilevel and multi-stakeholder governance, adopting a qualitative methodological strategy. The objective here is to analyze the current perception of national and territorial actors regarding the policies and mechanisms of climate governance in Uruguay and the region. Consequently, it examines diverse articulations at different levels of government, as well as different dynamics of participation with a focus on climate issues at the national as well as within the territory analyzed. Doing so, the paper aims at evaluating some progress and challenges in this area, in order to contribute to the design and implementation of assertive policies on climate change. Latin America shows an accelerated urbanization process and a development model that generate and intensify social and environmental problems. Added to these problems are the risks triggered by climate change that affect today's cities. In Argentina, its effects are manifested differentially over the regions, impacting cities and human settlements. In this scenario, this paper proposes to explore the environmental risk faced by Argentinean cities in a context of climate change from two dimensions: threat and resilience. For this, two synthetic indices were built using the Mean Index Coefficient methodology for each dimension and subsequently the results were articulated by defining risk categories. Results were spatially represented using a Geographic Information System. Gran Posadas, Corrientes, and Salta reach the most unfavorable situations following by Gran La Plata, Gran Mendoza, Gran San Juan, Gran Tucumán-Tafí Viejo, and the Buenos Aires counties. The importance of focusing on adaptation measures under the concept of urban resilience is highlighted. New questions arise from this work and invite further research whose results will allow progress towards sustainability and urban resilience by including them in local policies. CLIMATE change - Abstract
Moving Strategically toward the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the UN organized a Sustainable Development Solutions Network (UNSDSN) and a Platform (HLPF) in order to harness the so called Data Revolution that could help to achieve systemically the 17 Goals, by attaining local and globally the corresponding targets. For this purpose, there is a need to keep joining efforts and know-how to develop an appropriate framework and roadmap. This paper may represent a contribution based on the long-time experience of The Millennium Project (MP) dealing with the somehow related 15 Global Challenges. As matter of fact similarly to the SDG Index, the MP developed a State of The Future Index (SOFI) that has being monitoring for some time; and on this paper as an example we'll show for the case of SDG13 that deals with the critical issue of Climate Action, how the MP has being working with its related Global Challenge 1 that deals with Sustainable Development and Climate Change. - Abstract
The 2030 Agenda, an action plan proposed by the United Nations (UN) to achieve sustainable development on a global scale, involves various key actors, including universities. The strategy elects 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which together have 169 targets. In the health area, this commitment implies the transversal profile and the potential for integration of the SDG 3, Good Health and Well-Being, with the other objectives. Health is an object of knowledge that is characterized, in the academic field, by interdisciplinarity; and in the work field, by multiprofessional action. The responses of university to the SDGs can be developed by articulating the extension, research and education actions. This paper presents the knowledge in health based on evidence and the one based on the community, recognizing that the former, that is, the scientific one, has to be combined with the latter. It is worth to emphasize the integration between the SDG 3, Good Health and Well-Being; SDG 2, Zero Hunger; and SDG 4, Quality Education; all of this anchored by the participatory perspective of the Knowledge to Action Framework. The paper concludes that, by recognizing the academic space in the response to the SDGs, the role of researchers and other social actors engaged in the implementation of this agenda is also recognized. SUSTAINABLE development , *CAPITALISM - Abstract
Inspired by Antonio Gramsci's analysis of bourgeois hegemony and his theoretical formulation of historical blocs, this paper attempts to explain how the concept and practice of sustainable development were captured by corporate interests in the last few decades of the twentieth century and how they were transformed into what we can name a 'good Anthropocene' historical bloc at the beginning of the twentyfirst century. This corporate capture is theorised in terms of the transnational capitalist class as represented by corporate, statist/political, professional and consumerist fractions operating at all levels of an increasingly globalising world. In this essay, I propose the term 'critical Anthropocene narrative', highlighting the dangers posed by the Anthropocene and the need for radical systems' change entailing the end of capitalism and the hierarchical state. The critical Anthropocene narrative, thus, stands in radical opposition to the 'good Anthropocene' narrative which I argue was invented as a strategy to defend the socio-economic status quo by the proponents of sustainable development and their successors in the Anthropocene era, despite the good intentions of many environmentalists working in corporations, governments, NGOs, and international organizations. The paper concludes with some suggestions on how to deal with the potential existential threats to the survival of humanity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper analyzed, for the Brazilian case, the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). The concept of negative externality and market failure was used to understand the need for environmental policies capable of favoring the sustainable development of countries. The results show the importance of scale for the registration of projects. The energy sector, for example, has more small-scale projects that were created to simplify procedures and lower costs. It was concluded, in general, that the CDM has become an international historical landmark, as it is an innovative tool in contributing to the mitigation of climate change. However, despite its importance being recognized globally, it was observed that the mechanism has weakened over time and there are uncertainties regarding the validity of the Kyoto Protocol. - Abstract
The change of the environmental paradigm has shown the need to rethink the use of practices of natural systems, and also the creation of new instruments to encourage the preservation of these systems. Thus, the payment for environmental services programs was created aimed at the recovery of the degraded ecosystems. The goal of this paper is to analyze the issue of payment for services as an environmental policy aimed at promoting environmental sustainability. In this paper was discussed the concept of sustainable development and how it influences the payment for environmental services. Besides that, was presented an overview about the payment for environmental services programs in Brazil. It was noted that, in Brazil, the payment for environmental services programs are still not consolidated as a policy to improve the social well-being and also encourage the environmental preservation. In the aftermath of the financial crisis that broke out in 2008, new terms to talk about sustainable development started to emerge: the "green" economy and "green" growth. Some countries supported their usage and others did not. The literature witnessed the recrudescence of the debate on the relationship between economic activity and taking care of the environment, divided into three stances: degrowth advocates, "green" growth backers, and the growth-agnostics. This paper dives into the different "green" terms, paying special attention to the case of Argentina. Unlike in previous papers, which have analyzed country interventions in international forums, the methodology here was to search the web pages of the most relevant local players. The most traditional terms ("sustainable development") were strongly predominant, and the concepts of "green" economy or "green" growth were few and far between. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The demands for a development model that considers the social and environmental dimensions, as well as the economic dimension, has become increasingly imperative, either by society in general or by the initiative of national or supranational bodies, as oversight and regulatory agencies. In this way, the precepts of sustainable development have been gaining more space in political agendas and civil debates. We propose here that this model of development, especially the one linked to strong sustainability (and relative to the branch of ecological economy), would be ideal. For this, based on literature review, we formulate a theoretical model that combines sustainable regional development (as a dependent variable), mediated by the independent variables of entrepreneurship and sustainability. That is, the objective of this paper is the proposition of a theoretical framework that assumes that the sustainable regional development can be reached from the articulation between the foment to the entrepreneurial activity and the precepts of sustainability. As an additive to this model, we also consider the construct of the entrepreneurial ecosystem as a catalyst for entrepreneurial activity at the regional level and sustainable entrepreneurship as a type of business conducive to a more equal income generation, improvement of social structure, and environmental preservation. The informational economy is the basis of the network society, and promoted the creation of big technological parks, located at Silicon Valley in the USA, Sophia-Antipolis in France, and Cambridge in the UK, in the late 20th century (CASTELLS, 2003). This paper studies the Beta Technology Innovation Park, its actors, and the relationships between them. The study is relevant when it comes to local development of Brazil, especially after the 2008 03/08 CMC (Conselho do Mercado Comum - Common Market Council), signed by Mercosur countries, when the legal landmark Science, Technology and Innovation 2008 - 2012 began. Regulation SC@2022 reinforces the State-of-the-art Innovation Program of the state of Santa Catarina, where the Beta Technology Innovation Park is located, and which encourages the goal of transforming the state into a reference of innovation in sustainability in Brazil and worldwide. This paper uses the quantitative methodology of study through the UCINET system. The aim of this paper is to define the main actors involved, their relationships and the degrees of relationships. Through the analysis, it was possible to outline the typology of the Beta Park network and the source and intensity of relations between the actors, according to the indicators: centrality, density, intensity, importance, and degree. These results will assist with integration strategies, strengthening, expansion and development of networks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The understanding of social challenges and natural resource limitations by enterprises has spurred the creation of a new kind of entrepreneurism that focuses on strategies aligned with sustainable development dimensions. Recently, theoretical studies have highlighted that the creation of value between an enterprise and its stakeholders is a necessary condition for the sustainability of the business. In such a context, this paper aims to analyse how the interrelation between enterprises that meet criteria of sustainable entrepreneurship and their supplier stakeholders influence the creation of values that contribute to sustainable development. For this purpose this paper used a qualitative approach based on multiple case studies that investigated four enterprises and two of their respective suppliers. The results showed that the interrelationships between the studied companies and their supplier stakeholders influence the creation of values that contribute to sustainable development in that mutual interests related to the three dimensions (environmental, social and economic) are considered. - Abstract
The concept of sustainable development includes social justice, equal income distribution, full employment, safe and healthy working environments, environmental protection and socio-economic welfare. This paper intends to provide a comparative analysis of sustainable development issues inside the WTO dispute system based on the analysis of the cases presented to WTO since January 1st 1995 until January 1st 2014. This paper proposes to analyse the extent and nature of the incorporation of sustainable development issues into WTO dispute settlement through the analysis of the WTO "case law". No one can deny that the WTO will face in the near future challenges related to sustainable development issues. The WTO's ability to reconcile multilateral trade liberalization with sustainable development in its system of dispute is a central concern to the institution's legitimacy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In recent decades, renewable energies have become increasingly important at the global level, with a significant impact on the sustainable development of various nations. Although multiple papers have examined the efficiency of policies and instruments to promote renewable energy sources, the majority have disregarded the fact that the context in which policies are implemented determines how well they perform. This paper analyzes renewable energy development in the electricity market in Argentina, paying special mind to the contextual conditions in which the policies were designed and finding that in recent history, it is precisely these conditions that constitute the main reason why renewable energies have such a low degree of penetration in the electrical power system in Argentina. The paper builds a sustainable development index based on environmental, social, economic and institutional dimensions and presents a spatial assessment of municipalitties inequalities in the State of Ceará. Sustainability indices force institutions and governments to question their standards and act as "driving forces" for public policy-making. The validity of sustainability indexes is heavily dependent on how their components are weighted and aggregated. The research is quantitative developed through secondary data acquired in public agency databases of the country (Brazil) and federal unit (State of Ceara). Data analysis included confirmatory factor analysis for the construction of general sustainability indexes, descriptive analysis of these indices and spatial econometric modeling to represent on the map of Ceará municipalities. The survey results reveal a regular adjustment of the sustainable development index. The model allows a geographical view of sustainable development indicators and presents with a tool in the definition of public policies for social equity, environmental and economic. The analysis of social, economic, environmental, institutional and general indices revealed that the most urban areas of the State of Ceará have a greater sustainable development and confirms the fragility of public policies in promoting regional balance. This paper discusses the ability of Sustainable Development Reserves to embed (in Karl Polanyi's sense) the economy into the environment through the development of protocols for the sustainable management of natural resources. Based on two decades of work in the Mamirauá and Amanã Sustainable Development Reserves, we question whether the results are good, fair and viable by comparing two alternatives: unregulated markets and fully protected reserves. We evaluate the interest in sustainability; discuss who benefits and who pays for it; reflect on its potential to reduce inequalities; and discuss its economic and political viability. - Abstract
Brazilian law prohibits any formally unauthorized human x fauna interaction, except the slaughter of wild animals to satisfy the hunger of the poor. A set of traditional activities (hunting, capture, alimentary consumption, sale and possession of wild animals), underlying specific modes of sociability and lifestyles that diverge from the established rules, is, thereby, criminalized. Recognizing the impreciseness of the juridical categories "legal" and "illegal", the paper criticizes their absorption by the scientific discourse, and proposes to replace them by categories based on the rationality of the agent interacting with the fauna: close or far, in successive degrees, from the market logic. By revealing the diversity of situations so far indistinctly seen as crimes against nature, such categories give prominence to marginalized groups, promoting their recognition as legitimate actors in the interlocution with scientific research and with participatory environmental management programs. - Abstract
Agriculture is one of the activities that most requires water. A strategic foresight for water resources is required for the maintenance of productivity without jeopardizing the systems' water sustainability. New technologies and the management of natural resources are thus adopted to avoid wastes and adequate their use. Current paper analyzes the concepts on water and agribusiness, and thus proposes a wide survey of the issue, forwarding it close to Brazilian agribusiness. It should be underscored that in all commercialized products, from food, clothes and electronic equipments, certain water consumption exists which labels fail to exhibit and thus the real water impact of the product is omitted. Water footprint and terminology, such as virtual water, are tools that contribute towards the lessening of problems of water scarcity in different regions of the planet through international trade. Due to the water's cyclical characteristics, there is a reduction in its availability because of a growing population that lacks adequate management. If these tools are not deepened and applied, the welfare and safety conditions that society desires will not be maintained. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

LITERATURE reviews , *INDUSTRIAL management - Abstract
Companies, as key actors in society, have been pressured to change the way they do business to integrate sustainability into their daily practices and to disclose their impacts and contributions to sustainable development. In this context, a new organizational competence - sustainability management - related to the way how companies manage and integrate sustainability issues in their core business, becomes relevant. Therefore, to understand how this competence is built or evolve over time is of major importance for their applicability. Sustainability or environmental management evolution is not new, however the extant literature points out that it is still incipient, it does not explain clearly how companies change their environmental stance over time or provide detailed definition or characteristics of each stage. In this context, this paper aims to understand the current state of sustainability management evolution models updating Kolk and Mauser (2002) work; and to present a consolidative evolution model for sustainability management derived from the complementarity of the identified models. We conclude that it is not indeed a consolidated discussion as there is not consensus regarding type of evolution, pathway followed and the very construct of sustainability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper discusses some of the challenges related to integration and cooperation in Latin America: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, a clear platform that involves every country in the region, as well as various actors, and trade negotiations in the twenty-first century, in particular, mega-regional agreements whose scopes are limited to a few countries. Latin America is currently exploring the possibilities of convergence and cooperation in a context of diverse geopolitical interests. This will require adopting a flexible and inclusive approach. The experiences of Asia and Africa in this arena will undoubtedly be relevant. Achieving convergence will be crucial to fostering cooperation and coordinating policies to respond to the challenges of globalization. The region will also have to find new resources and models for national and international funding. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Food has been one of the most debated and contested discourses in recent global environmental governance without this fact being reflected, however, in management and organizational studies (MOS). In this paper, we analyze the different positions taken in relation to the transnational agri-food system by the state sector, the private sector and civil society actors and we map key differences and similarities in the discourses of these groups at the influential 2012 Rio+20 Conference. Using neo-Gramscian discourse theory, we uncover the different politico-economic interests that exist and show how these different actors deal with the agri-food system. We demonstrate that international NGOs and grassroots social movements are very diverse in how they approach the question of food security, which in turn is reflected in how they vary in their approach to doing politics. This analysis contributes to our understanding of how hegemony is organized, highlighting the important role of different civil society actors in either maintaining or resisting hegemonic approaches to the transnational agri-food system. - Abstract
The agrarian capitalism advances in rural areas transforming and boosting them. It triggers off new territorial coverages and new social relations arising from these changes in the production system. The objective of this paper is to analyze the importance of a territorial study in the face of a dynamic rural incorporating the need for sustainable development. It aims to discuss issues related to territorial transformations in the presence of a dynamic rural on the border Brazil - Uruguay with the premise of sustainable development. We propose to present the dynamics of territory to understand the present agrarian structure, which consider the approach of various social actors and new production systems that require the development of rural areas. Methodologically it makes use of instruments such as documentary and bibliographic research, direct observation and semi-structured interviews with qualified informants using the dialectical method and qualitative approach to data analysis. The results show that the various persons present to remain at the current insert themselves in the productivist logic diversifying production, using technologies and selling their labor strength. We conclude that the countryside should be understood as the territory of incorporation of the capital derivatives of agrarian transformation and social inter-relations of the same with the environment. The reconfigured rural emerges as an agrarian space that should be focused on the social, economic and environmental vision in the dynamics of social relations of the territory with nature. To achieve the rural sustainable development facing the territorial dynamics we should focus multifunctionality of rural areas supported on the family production. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Innovation and sustainability are central management themes in contemporary society. This centrality is due to the impact that both exert upon the performance of many organizations. This paper aims to contribute to the understanding of the theoretical implications that emerge from treating innovation and sustainability as relevant aspects for the success of contemporary organizations. To accomplish this objective, the essay arguments that this discussion must be centered upon the propositions of the configurations approach. The reasoning starts with an exposition of the assumptions underlying the configurations approach. Then, innovation and its impacts are discussed and its relationship with Danny Miller´s four configuration imperatives is shown. For sustainability, the argument is that it can be viewed as a fifth configuration imperative. The conclusion emphasizes the need to consider the limits of innovation and sustainability as part of mid-range theories in Management and, thus, not universal in nature. Furthermore, in the case of sustainability, it is suggested that its emergence as a mandatory practice in organizations management requires a fundamental shift in the meaning of Management. Mobility is the greatest challenge for human civilization. Objective: to contribute to the conceptual discussion of the topic in two of its basic dimensions: safety and sustainability. Methodology: the authors reviewed Spanish, English and Portuguese literature on the term mobility and its relationship with road safety in sustainable transportation. Books, reports and scientific papers from 2010 onward were reviewed. Likewise, 25 texts were identified which were used to produce argumentative syntheses. Results: being able to move safely and with sustainability has implications in the physical and mental health of individuals and populations. It is a right of the citizens, a constitutional obligation and the duty of the State. It is also a determinant of welfare and development with a defined paradigmatic and historical background related to the environmental, economic and social sustainability, which is threatened by the occupation of the soil, the concentration of people and the motorization of life. - Abstract
The discussion of this paper aims to present proposals on the evaluation of the quality of social capital formed between organizations and stakeholders in their activities as a factor of regional development. Social capital is the set of relational assets that may affect the productive capacity of a social entity, having the structural, relational and cognitive dimensions, which are interrelated. Relationships an organization has with its stakeholders constitute social capital, which quality refers to the potential development they promote in a region. The development of a region is classified in accordance with the prevailing logic of actions taken by local organizations, resulting in a spurious or sustainable development. This study presents three propositions. The first states that the quality of social capital in relations between managers and stakeholders is revealed in the relational and cognitive dimensions. The other propositions affirm that relations between organizations and stakeholders constitute a social capital that promotes a spurious or sustainable development. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
