Objective: To analyze how the predominance of pathological mechanisms of projective identification of primary objects, i.e. morbid identification, present in transgenerational and intergenerational transmission, is traumatizing in the emotional development of the individual. This concept is articulated with the historicity of the subject and the influence of the environment in the constitution of the psyche. The discovery of this unconscious communication, transforming and revealing a historical dimension of the human being, is enriching for the understanding of psychic suffering, since it allows the integration of its secret, hidden, enigmatic or psychically unrepresentable aspects in the mental life of patients. Methodology: presentation of two clinical vignettes in which the presence of morbid identifications, as a transgenerational phenomenon that revealed itself in the transference situation, overflowing the intrapsychic field, prevented the development of a psychism of its own. Results and conclusions: Morbid identification, which can inhabit or parasitize the self, requires psychoanalytic intervention to lead the subject to disidentify, so that play and dream can take its place.
