This panel explores the unique challenges and opportunities presented by the expanded sociotechnical practices associated with the preservation, curation, and use of visual information and ongoing perceptions of the affordances and constraints associated with new and emerging visual information objects. The panelists and the respondent work with the curation and preservation of visual information across a variety of research areas and utilize both qualitative and quantitative methods to understand the parallel and divergent sociotechnical challenges of curating visual information across analog, digitized, and born‐digital contexts. Sites of analysis range from format‐specific identity‐representation issues to the cultural practices of media archivists, translational challenges when moving complex scientific data across various digital and analog formats, and the role of accessibility in the design and deployment of discovery systems within cultural heritage institutions. Responding to the unique and intersecting challenges produced by working with visual information across various archival and digital curation contexts, the panelist will reflect on the practical and theoretical outcomes from ongoing research projects and identify persistent and emergent issues within the digital curation of visual information. This alternative event uses siphonophorae as a metaphor for examining infrastructure in information work. Infrastructure studies are deeply rooted in the field of information science: Susan Leigh Star's work forms a cornerstone of infrastructure studies and the ways in which information science views how people operate within the systems around them (Star, 1999; Larkin, 2013). Representing a broad meta‐discipline, the ASIS&T community has decades of research and publications on infrastructure, and because the topic is so complicated and rhizomatic, we still lack clear perspectives on key questions like: Why this infrastructure, and why now? Attendees will work together to construct a physical and a digital siphonophore that constitute connections between infrastructure; those who design them; those who use them; and how they function in relation to information sciences and spaces. While considerations of documents and data are longstanding in the tenants and practices of library and information science (LIS), the recent turn toward bodies and embodiment in the social sciences invites a critical interrogation of our assumptions about the interplay of documents, data, and bodies embedded within sociotechnical systems of power and bodily agency. In response, we begin to theorize the intersection of datafication and documentation as documentification, encapsulating how acts of datafication revoking agency results in a one‐directional superficial documentary status, producing assumptions about bodies by power systems which aim to simplify, nullify, and suppress. We initially examine documentification as it relates to practices of surveillance, BMI, and memory institutions. In doing so, we interrogate the ethical dilemmas emerging from assumptions about agency ascribed to documentified bodies. In the past two decades, the digitization of humanities resources has rapidly expanded, giving rise to the field of Digital Humanities (DH). This evolution has fostered a growing need for effective interoperability—the ability to access and integrate data across diverse digital collections, tools, and platforms. Despite significant technological advancements and the development of standards aimed at facilitating interoperability, challenges persist. These challenges are not only technical but are also influenced by sociocultural factors, which include organizational and cultural elements. This paper aims to bridge the gap in the literature concerning these sociotechnical factors affecting interoperability within DH projects and collections. This paper presents the analysis of the real‐world experiences of DH researchers attempting to connect material from different sources. Each participant described a specific incident where combining software or content was particularly problematic. This data was analyzed via thematic analysis. The findings reveal a complex landscape of interoperability challenges, underpinned by a range of sociotechnical factors. These factors include, but are not limited to, discrepancies in metadata standards, differences in organizational cultures, and varying levels of technical expertise among practitioners. By highlighting these factors, the paper contributes valuable insights into the multifaceted nature of interoperability issues in DH, offering evidence‐based plans to address these challenges. Tourism live streaming can significantly enhance users' desire to travel. Although previous studies have identified many technical and social enablers influencing users' impulsive travel intention, limited research has examined it from a socio‐technical perspective. This paper aims to develop and validate a theoretical model that explains how visibility, personalization, and metavoicing influence impulsive travel intention through parasocial relationship in tourism live streaming. Empirical results (N = 551) reveal that visibility, personalization, and metavoicing exert both direct positive impacts on impulsive travel intention and indirect effects through the mediation of parasocial relationship. This paper also identifies gender as a moderating role in the proposed model. This paper enriches the literature by not only shedding light on the underlying process through which users develop impulsive travel intention, considering both technical features and social interaction but also stands as one of the earliest to investigate the gender's moderating role in this process. Generative AI (GenAI) impacts the ways we create, engage with, and understand creative and intellectual works. These new forms of sociotechnical (inter)action pose challenges for existing legal regimes, ethical frameworks, and social relationships. This research undertakes an in‐depth copyright analysis of GenAI based on U.S. law, focusing on its fair use doctrine and conceptions of transformation. This work finds that courts' characterization of uses as primarily either "expressive" or "mediating" is an important, though often implicit, factor in their decisions. Furthermore, while "transformative use" has dominated fair use decisions for the past thirty years, findings from this research suggest that GenAI may usher in a renewed emphasis on the doctrine's market harms element which, in application, may be dispositive with respect to GenAI outputs. This work concludes by offering recommendations aimed at clarifying that the value of copyright arises from social and relational aspects of creative practice and sociotechnical transformation. Arguments and rationales that (over)emphasize atomization and algorithmic decontextualization of the material properties of creative works are unlikely to attend to the underlying purpose of the Act: "[t]o promote the Progress of Science and the useful Arts". Infrastructure consists of interlinked and nested sociotechnical systems, the construction, maintenance, and repair of which requires considerable ongoing outlays of material resources, technical know‐how and throughput, and political will. Building upon "broken world" approaches, this research uses qualitative methods to study infrastructure development, breakdown, and repair through the lens of a particular collaborative humanitarian initiative involving the public health sector in the Gaza Strip. Findings from this research suggest that a lack of donation ethics combined with policies that privilege "service over stuff" enable and exacerbate key infrastructural breakdowns, perpetuate maladaptive behaviors, inhibit meaningful development, and reinforce dominant harmful regimes. The paper concludes by arguing for increased critical and ethical awareness of donation culture and its consequences, a reconsideration of development policies that limit funding support to services rather than material and infrastructure supports, and an emphasis on building local capacity for maintenance and repair work. The viability of news has been in rapid decline since the mid‐2000s. This poster presents a critical analysis of how news publishers themselves helped precipitate the crisis by enthusiastically adopting Big Tech platform technologies and audience‐building strategies. I show how search and social media platforms disrupted publishers' relationships with audiences and advertisers by appropriating control over news distribution and revenue. I use Anthony Giddens' structuration theory and Bruno Latour's actor‐network theory to explore the restructuring of the news industry by the sociotechnical practices and surveillance economics of today's dominating platforms. Leveraging Michel Serres' concept of social parasitism, I present a research framework for assessing symbiotic and parasitic relationships in sociotechnical systems using historical, quantitative, and qualitative methods, and to identify where news publishers still have agency to begin resolving the crisis. This concept paper explores the challenges faced by employees from various industries as the world faces the COVID-19 pandemic at this point. The current situation finds that employees cannot go out to work face to face or are not allowed to come to the office physically as usual as a result of this COVID-19 pandemic outbreak. Furthermore, all citizens from almost all countries are involved in the implementation of the movement control order (MCO). However, jobs that involve day-to-day operations in the organisation still need to carry out their activities as usual for the sake of the survival of their respective organisations. Thus, there are various online platforms that are used to enable activities in the organisation to continue in the interest of stakeholders. To continue daily work activities there are several online platforms that are often used as communication media in organisations such as 'Google Meet', 'Google Classroom', 'Zoom', 'Webex', 'Microsoft Team' and 'Skype'. When the COVID-19 pandemic situation was announced to have subsided, there were organisations that adopted hybrid methods where online and face-to-face communication media were practiced for the purpose of discussions and meetings. This concept paper aims to identify the challenges faced by employees throughout working from home (WFH) when faced with this COVID-19 pandemic. Researchers have proposed three (3) recommendations in facing employee challenges throughout WFH with reference to Sociotechnical Systems Theory (STS) and Motivation-Hygiene Theory based on reference highlights of papers reviewed from 15 journals in previous studies. The results of this study can contribute to knowledge and in addition to the highlights of the work for this topic, especially to employers and employees who practice the concept of WFH. The ongoing development of technology and AI facilitates the emergence of service robots in various application fields. Hence, the development of robot-infrastructure product-service systems (PSS) will become increasingly important. Based on the existing literature we propose a new methodological approach for a joint development of robot and infrastructure in the context of a socio-technical system with various stakeholders. Collaborative robots (cobots) allow for flexible manufacturing, supporting more customised product designs. Although safety is key for socio-technical human-cobot workplaces, existing safety assessment support like standards and guidelines require extensive experience and can be experienced as overwhelming. To make cobot risk assessments more accessible, especially for novices, and increase traceability from hazard to risk to mitigation, this paper presents a matrix-based approach that decomposes this daunting activity into smaller better manageable steps. We have a unique opportunity to consider justice in our design of a cleaner energy system. This paper introduces the Justice-Embedded Requirements Engineering (JERE) process, which was created to enable engineers to consider project goals, requirements, and potential project impacts on historically marginalized, climate-vulnerable communities. Given JERE's focus on energy technologies, we demonstrate the process using a concentrating solar power example. The goal of this research is the development of adaptive approaches to process management in order to create a stable quality management system (QMS). This article reviews the key notions of stability: monitoring, forecasting, response, and studying that reflect the sociotechnical system. One of the key features of this system is feedback loops. Feedback stipulates that any action during the process may have both positive and negative effects after one or more loops. In the majority of practical cases, complex adaptive systems are reviewed at organizations or systems of organizations separate from the sociotechnical approach, which often results in instabilities and spontaneity of offer and demand balance improvement. Complex systems operate under conditions which are not balanced, and they are highly dynamic and constantly developing. Because of this, the system is constantly adapting (changing), new feedback loops occur and create structures that are required to achieve stability. The study involved a survey in which a total of two hundred and fifty one (251) employees drawn from MTC in Chennai were used as subjects. Interview schedule and in-depth interview were the main research techniques adopted for data collection while Univariate percentage distribution, weighted Average and Chi-square techniques gathered via to choose the simple random sampling which has been provided the bases for analysis. Data was collected through questionnaire and analyzed through SPSS. The chi-square analysis shows that there is no significant relationship exists between years of experience and improvement of productivity & overall quality of working life of MTC in Chennai. Examinations of intersectionality and identity dimensions in accessibility research have primarily considered disability separately from a person's race and ethnicity. Accessibility work often does not include considerations of race as a construct, or treats race as a shallow demographic variable, if race is mentioned at all. The lack of attention to race as a construct in accessibility research presents an oversight in our field, often systematically eliminating whole areas of need and vital perspectives from the work we do. Further, there has been little focus on the intersection of race and disability within accessibility research, and the relevance of their interplay. When research in race or disability does not mention the other, this work overlooks the potential to better understand the full nuance of marginalized and "otherized" groups. To address this gap, we present a series of case studies exploring the potential for research that lies at the intersection of race and disability. We provide examples of how to integrate racial equity perspectives into accessibility research, through positive examples found in these case studies and reflect on teaching at the intersection of race, disability, and technology. This paper highlights the value of considering how constructs of race and disability work alongside each other within accessibility research studies, designs of socio-technical systems, and education. The optimal management of sociotechnical systems across the water–energy nexus is a critical issue for the overall goal of sustainable development. Ad-hoc systems are socio-technical systems emerging in response to dynamic problematic situations. These systems form when situation systems interact with respondent systems organized by human agents using elements available in the situation and assets brought in from outside the situation. The immediacy of formation, fast evolution, and short lifecycles of ad-hoc systems intertwine design, implementation, and operation activities in complex ways not addressed by current approaches to Systems Engineering focusing on more sedate environments. The proposed framework presents a language for classifying fundamental building blocks of ad-hoc systems – single-agent intervention, staging, readiness, and development systems. Further classification according to the physical location of agents and assets relative to situations generates 16 system classes on the 4x4 matrix of Ad-hoc Systems Gameboard, which is a helpful tool for managing the evolution of system portfolios. Combining the Gameboard with mapping the systems onto the PSI matrix reveals additional relationships and evolution patterns, opening up promising directions to address the challenge of designing, planning, and implementing interventions in complex situations. The political character of the energy transition requires a fine-grained perspective on the power games occurring to bring it about. There are approaches specifically geared towards calling out the identity-based inequalities in such social processes termed as grand challenges, and then there are those specialised in studying the role of technology in the energy system and how actors in that system interact with these technologies. Feminist social scientists have highlighted the entanglements of intersectionality with technology in general and energy more specifically. At the same time, the literature on Science and Technology Studies (STS) emphasizes a social dimension, e.g., how technology is co-constructed by societal actors or how large technical systems structure our daily lives. Of relevance for feminist social scientists, STS approaches are well-positioned to analyse how technology creates, re-enacts, or mirrors power asymmetries. STS approaches understand technologies as socio-technical systems that inadvertently incorporate societal realities in production and consumption which allows an analysis of the covert seats of power in socio-technical systems. Similarly, energy systems have been a popular research object in STS due to their large-scale, often high-tech character, especially when considering modern energy technologies. Regardless of the common scope of intersectionality and STS regarding power asymmetries, there is still significant room for “hybridization” of these approaches. Although the energy domain has seen efforts being made with the development of notions such as energy poverty, energy justice, or energy democracy, the hybridization effort with STS has not been taken further significantly. There is a global effort towards transitioning to a zero or low-carbon economy due to climate change and the current energy crises. This requires a shift in socio-technical systems and cross collaboration amidst sectors. The move to a clean energy-based economy also involves the creation of a broad range of skills, the upskilling and reskilling of the existing workforce, and providing opportunities for training. While many critical analyses of emerging decarbonisation or green skills, focus on issues of clean energy transition and the distribution of opportunities between fossil fuel-based and clean energy industries, there is limited critical analysis of justice and equality regarding the distribution of opportunities for developing key green skills for place-based decarbonisation. There is evidence of asymmetric power relations and gender inequalities regarding the acquisition of skills, employment opportunities, kinds of jobs and pay gap which disproportionately affect women. This paper presents compelling evidence of hegemonic masculinisation within the energy industry; this tendency is now mirrored in ecological industries and technologies, including within the renewable energy sector, leading to an ‘ecomasculinisation’ of the sector. Just transition principles promote a fair distribution of resources and the representation of vulnerable groups, including women and minorities. By relying on local assets and resources, including human resources, place-based approaches to green skills could address local communities’ needs while strengthening their resilience. These processes are pivotal to a fair and equitable transition. By explicitly articulating the context of place in understanding the gender(ed) dynamics of decarbonisation and skills, the authors identify and reflect on an innovative way of understanding the intersections between infrastructures, skills, and masculinisation in the transition to low zero carbon. Visually impaired individuals face various physical, digital, and social challenges. While specialised technologies such as screen readers can mitigate some of these challenges, they are associated with unresolved dilemmas including stigma. Digital voice assistants, which were not intentionally developed for people with visual impairments, have a large potential to offer desirable benefits without a negative stereotype. Yet, there is a lack of knowledge of how people with visual impairments perceive this technology, how they interact with it, for which tasks they use it and what are the respective outcomes. To address these questions, we conducted a qualitative study and interviewed 21 people with visual impairments who use digital voice assistants. Relying on a sociotechnical perspective and the concept of IS delegation, we identified six different roles of voice assistants that differ based on their agentic capabilities, their delegation mechanisms, the tasks they execute, and the associated instrumental or humanistic outcomes. The so called Metaverse is among the most popular emerging themes in contemporary business and academic discourses related to digital transformation. Beside the hype and buzz around the topic, recent research has established important progress related to the technical foundations and use-case scenarios. However, the preconditions to manifest these promising potentials, that is the underlying socio-technical ecosystem, is, to date, not well-understood. In particular, we still do not know much about the key building blocks of technical knowledge and who creates this knowledge base necessary for the Metaverse. Therefore, in this study, employing cluster-analysis to a complex dataset involving 2297 Metaverse-patents, we reveal key areas of technological knowledge as well as important actor groups shaping the development of the knowledge base. Building upon these inductively derived knowledge generation structures, we discuss important implications for managers and academics and propose an Information Systems research agenda to further explore the emerging Metaverse ecosystem. Although smart product-service systems (SPSS) have attracted increasing interest from manufacturers in recent years, their commercialization can pose major challenges. This study aims to advance the SPSS literature by examining the pillars of manufacturers' SPSS value offering strategies. Using a sociotechnical perspective and a configurational approach, this study examines how manufacturers configure SPSS value offerings. A fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis based on data from a qualitative study reveals three different configurations of sociotechnical factors that are consistently sufficient to achieve an attractive SPSS value offering. From a theoretical perspective, insight into these configurations advances the understanding of complementarities among sociotechnical factors for SPSS. Personalized news platforms (PNPs) have become increasingly popular due to their ability to provide users with tailored, relevant news content. However, their algorithmic selection of news items bears the risk of limiting the diversity of news that users are exposed to, potentially creating information-limiting environments (ILEs). As the emergence of such ILEs involves interdependent sociotechnical interactions, classical positivist approaches have failed to establish an empirically verified theory on this phenomenon. Therefore, we adopt a systems perspective to conceptualize and quantify a model describing the sociotechnical interactions in PNPs that can create ILEs. We then propose an experimental approach to simulate these interactions with real users and validate its viability through an empirical prestudy. In doing so, we contribute to IS research by providing the conceptual and methodological basis for inductive theorizing on the causes of ILEs, which is an essential prerequisite for designing effective interventions to mitigate ILE-induced risks. In the field of natural language processing (NLP), advances in transformer architectures and large-scale language models have led to a plethora of designs and research on a new class of information systems (IS) called writing support systems, which help users plan, write, and revise their texts. Despite the growing interest in writing support systems in research, there needs to be more common knowledge about the different design elements of writing support systems. Our goal is, therefore, to develop a taxonomy to classify writing support systems into three main categories (technology, task/structure, and user). We evaluated and refined our taxonomy with seven interviewees with domain expertise, identified three clusters in the reviewed literature, and derived five archetypes of writing support system applications based on our categorization. This paper problematizes underlying assumptions in Design Science Research – and Information Systems Research more broadly by conceptualizing the „solution trap“. The solution trap is caused by the incompatibility of co-existing solutions in complex socio-technical contexts. Information systems bring diverse cultures and theories together, causing tensions in the different institutional logics. We emphasize the need for a nuanced understanding of context unevenness and propose solution patchwork as a coordination approach to evade the solution trap. This paper addresses the challenge of finding criteria to evaluate social inclusiveness of sociotechnical systems (STS). While IT offers opportunities to reduce inequalities, the "digital divide" is a growing challenge. This divide between individuals with access and sufficient digital literacy, has economic and social consequences. Although several factors have been identified as barriers to the use of IT or design principles for socially inclusive research, there is a gap in the literature in assessing the final STS in their social inclusivity. This paper aims to identify criteria for evaluating STS in terms of social inclusion of the digitally disadvantaged. Based on the STS perspective, design requirements and principles are derived to help design a checklist of whether needs of digitally disadvantaged have been met. Algorithmic control (AC) uses digital technologies and advanced algorithms to control workers and is rapidly becoming a central component of modern work environments. While previous research has explored the implications of AC by examining its specific forms, mechanisms, or functions, this research argues for a broader understanding of AC as socio-technical systems, explicitly considering the technological and organizational characteristics of AC. The overarching goal of this study is to identify and conceptualize the core dimensions and respective characteristics of AC systems. To achieve this goal, we develop a taxonomy based on a review of prior literature and an analysis of 21 empirical examples. Furthermore, we demonstrate the application and usefulness of the derived taxonomy by applying it to three real-world AC systems. The concept of the metaverse has recently generated a great deal of attention in academia and industry, with an increasing number of educational institutions expressing interest in its implementation. However, existing studies on metaverse development in higher education are still in their early stages, leaving institutions with little guidance on how to develop and implement a metaverse. Employing socio-technical theory, we propose a comprehensive nine-stage metaverse development framework (MDF) that incorporates both social and technical aspects of a metaverse initiative, thus providing a holistic approach to metaverse development. Leveraging case studies of three large universities and blending them with MDF, our study provides evidence of the applicability of our MDF and offers a better contextual understanding of metaverse development in educational settings. The widespread use of artificial intelligence in the military domain may have significant consequences not only for economic development and the specifics of the work activity of human society, but also for the global strategic balance. Thus, geopolitical actors of great and small weight in different regions cannot stay aside from the mentioned developments and strive to equip their military-political "arsenal" with weapons considered "smart" or to accumulate the necessary potential for their own development and production. In both cases, the increase in military spending is the primary factor that can contribute to the achieve of such goals. However, if in the first case it was a question of the acquisition of "smart" weapons, then in the second case, it is about the financing of scientific research activities in military domain. Human factors engineering aims to optimize socio-technical systems to enhance systems performance and human well-being throughout the systems lifecycle. The aviation industry is one of the sophisticated and influential industries that popularized human factors engineering principles in response to aircraft incidents and accidents. Now, there has been a slow pace in applying human factors in the lifecycle of socio-technical systems beyond the aviation industry. Lack of understanding of human factors benefits has been alluded to as one of the factors that hinder the application of human factors in other industries. A number of studies focus on the development and application of various human factors models, but there seems to be no study that adequately shortlists, discusses and presents the benefits of applying human factors. The aim of this paper is to uncover, examine and classify the benefits of applying human factors engineering principles in sociotechnical systems, especially in the era of 4IR. A narrative literature review methodology was adopted to analyze and synthesize various conference and journal articles on the application of human factors. The study revealed and classified the benefits of human factors according to performance, wellbeing, safety, quality, cost, and other operational benefits. The study's main contribution is making the benefits of applying HFE in various systems and processes visible to potential adopters and researchers involved in the application of HFE. Using ecosystem services provided by stream buffers has the potential to complement conventional engineering solutions, such as water treatment, and reduce public health risks to consumers. These buffers interrupt the movement of contaminants and sediments from non-point sources such as agricultural land to surface waters. Video assistant Referee (VAR) was introduced in football (soccer) to minimize errors directly affecting the match result. As a socio-technical intervention in the sport of football to support decision-making, there is tension between real-world contexts that lack objectivity and the application of information systems to make sense of them. In this research, we set out to offer new insights for information systems research by demonstrating this fundamental but hitherto neglected tension arising from the use of technology to reason about events and execute tasks. Using an initial sample of 27 VAR errors, we demonstrate the challenge of using information systems to faithfully represent subjective events. Our initial analysis outlines emergent concepts that help to explain the incidents analyzed, which serves as the orienting framework for our findings. Ensuring data privacy is an essential objective competing with the ever-rising capabilities of machine learning approaches fueled by vast amounts of centralized data. Federated learning addresses this conflict by moving the model to the data and ensuring the data itself does not leave a client's device. However, maintaining privacy impels new challenges concerning algorithm performance or fairness of the algorithm's results that remain uncovered from a sociotechnical perspective. We tackle this research gap by conducting a structured literature review and analyzing 152 articles to develop a taxonomy of federated learning applications with nine dimensions and 24 characteristics. Our taxonomy illustrates how different attributes of federated learning may affect the trade-off between an algorithm's privacy, performance, and fairness. Despite an increasing interest in the technical implementation of federated learning, our work is one of the first to emphasize an information systems perspective on this emerging and promising topic. The disruptive potential of AI systems roots in the emergence of big data. Yet, a significant portion is scattered and locked in data silos, leaving its potential untapped. Federated Machine Learning is a novel AI paradigm enabling the creation of AI models from decentralized, potentially siloed data. Hence, Federated Machine Learning could technically open data silos and therefore unlock economic potential. However, this requires collaboration between multiple parties owning data silos. Setting up collaborative business models is complex and often a reason for failure. Current literature lacks guidelines on which aspects must be considered to successfully realize collaborative AI projects. Organizations leverage several approaches for creating software applications that meet the requirements of specific contexts. Besides well-researched approaches like software development, outsourcing, or customizing commercial software packages, low-code platforms today offer a new approach for creating software. The low-code approach allows to develop software without or with limited actual coding by combining executable software components into workflows. While the low-code approach simplifies software development and reduces effort and time, we lack explanations on why organizations adopt it, and which challenges are associated with its adoption. We, therefore, investigate the adoption of the low-code approach based on the technology-organization-environment framework. We identified ten aspects supporting and six aspects hindering the adoption of the low-code approach. Digital trace data offer promising opportunities to study dynamics and change of various sociotechnical phenomena over time. While we see a surge of empirical and conceptual articles, we lack a systematic understanding of why, how, and when digital trace data are or can be used to study dynamics and change. In this article, we present the findings of a systematic literature review to uncover common approaches, motivations, findings, and general themes in the existing literature. We systematically reviewed 40 studies that were published in premium outlets in the information systems field. Our review sheds light on (1) underlying purposes of such studies, (2) utilized data sources, (3) research contexts, (4) socio-technical phenomena of interest, (5) applied analytical methods, and (6) measures that are being used. Internet of Things (IoT) holds significant potential for municipal efficiency and effectiveness. It enables subsystems to seamlessly communicate and permits their integration into a connected whole, affording new opportunities for value creation. In this paper, we present a study of municipal litter-bins that have been retrofitted with sensors to convey data on trash volume in each receptacle. Based on interviews, strategy documents, and notes from project meetings, we analyse their implementation from a data quality perspective and reflect on social- and technical issues. The case illustrates the propensity and consequences of overestimating benefits and oversimplifying technical interventions. Along with rapid advancements in digital, and physical technologies, shared autonomous electric vehicles are forecasted to gradually complement and replace traditional human-based mobility systems. Information systems play a key role in such a deep socio-technical system to pave the path toward a more sustainable future. This study investigates a hybrid ride-hailing platform of automated and human-driven vehicles. Our focus lies on the demand side where we evaluate the influence of user behaviors on economic and environmental system performance. For this, we employ a data-driven agent-based simulation modeling heterogeneous vehicle and user agents calibrated by rental data of a leading vehicle-sharing company. Our findings declare that diverse customer responses to the introduction of shared autonomous electric vehicles yield significantly differing fleet performance and ecological costs. We also observe that the status quo customer communication design of ride-hailing platforms needs adjustments to maximize the potentials of future hybrid shared mobility systems. Livestreaming e-commerce as an emerging social-technological phenomenon has been gaining attention from IS researchers. While past literature has accumulated extensive knowledge on explanatory variables that might lead to the viewers' purchasing behaviours, most of such empirical work focuses on prediction rather than explaining the causal mechanism. In this in-progress study, we draw on the psychology literature and hypothesise informational conformity and social facilitation as two key pathways leading to the purchasing behaviour in the emerging context. This conceptual framework would also be empirically verified using the field data. We propose using a structural equation modelling approach to test the conceptual model. The adoption and diffusion of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in organizations are significantly influenced by many sociotechnical factors such as people, processes, or regulations. However, previous research has mostly focused on a reactive description of individual influencing factors and lacks an overarching perspective that enables active management of an organization's various AI capabilities. Therefore, this paper provides a first overarching perspective by identifying all relevant activities for the management of AI in literature and grouping them into eight different fields of action. These fields of action are then evaluated by practitioners and combined into a cross-industry reference model for AI Management. While this reference model is the first of its kind and is already making a valuable contribution to the emerging field of AI Management in Information Systems Research, further insights are expected from the future refinement and application of the model. Research on artificial intelligence technology has not only increased rapidly over recent years, it is also no longer limited to the technical disciplines from which it originates. AI technologies are also at the center of social and sociotechnical studies including those conducted in information systems. Through a scoping review we explore how the research on different kinds of AI technologies has progressed over the past decade. Particularly, we explore whether the research on AI technologies has been informed by and informs our sociotechnical understanding of phenomena related to their design, development and implementation. For this purpose, we develop an analytical framework that differentiates sociotechnical perspectives, categorizes AI technologies into different kinds, and distinguishes research on AI technology design, development, and implementation. The adoption of Information Systems (IS) is among the critical topics for IS research and practice. However, despite rich insights across IS literature streams, many IS implementation projects still struggle with user adoption and realising benefits. This paper argues that a knowledge gap exists because research has paid little attention to the definition, manifestations, and effects of adoption management in mandatory environments. The article proposes definitions and systematically reviews findings related to adoption management at the cross-section of the adoption and benefits management literature. The findings show that adoption management manifests across the two literature streams as constructs, models, and methods. While some articles examine these manifestations in the analysis, many discuss adoption management as an afterthought in the implications for practice in discussion sections, and few articles explicitly label it adoption management. As Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming more prevalent in everyday work settings, the Information Systems (IS) discipline is perfectly poised to study the sociotechnical repercussions of AI supported decision-making part of expert's knowledge work. As expert know-how is tacit and socially situated, there are difficulties in capturing the nuances of the emerging human-machine collaborations. In this article, we review how epistemic uncertainty is evident in experts' decision-making practices when using AI tools. Building on rich primary studies, a qualitative evidence synthesis (QES) approach was used to synthesize relevant literature on this topic. Our findings unravel sources of expert uncertainty which point to strategies experts use to cope with uncertainty, and what attitudes experts have towards uncertainty when making complex decisions with AI-tools. Establishing accountability for Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems is challenging due to the distribution of responsibilities among multiple actors involved in their development, deployment, and use. Nonetheless, AI accountability is crucial. As AI can affect all aspects of private and professional life, the actors involved in AI lifecycles need to take responsibility for their decisions and actions, be ready to respond to interrogations by those affected by AI and held liable when AI works in unacceptable ways. Despite the significance of AI accountability, the Information Systems research community has not engaged much with the topic and lacks a systematic understanding of existing approaches to it. This paper present the results of a comprehensive conceptual literature review that synthetizes current knowledge on AI accountability. The paper contributes to the IS literature by providing (i) conceptual clarification mapping different accountability conceptualizations; (ii) a comprehensive framework for AI accountability challenges and actionable responses at three different levels: system, process, data and; (iii) a framing of AI accountability as a a socio-technical and organizational problem that IS researchers are well-equipped to study highlighting the need to balance instrumental and humanistic outcomes. This literature review extends the dominant view of Information Systems (IS) as socio-technical. We establish a novel view of IS as socio-ecological-technical systems to steer and unite IS research and scholarship to co-create digitally transformed sustainable futures. Without a commitment to reducing carbon dioxide equivalent emissions (CO2e), we will reach a tipping point leading to large-scale, dangerous, and irreversible impacts on climate, human liveability, and survivability. Digital technology can potentially mediate human activities to reduce CO2e, but its production, utilisation, and disposal are multiple sources of CO2e. In response to the conference theme "Co-creating Sustainable Digital Futures", this paper systematically reviews the IS research over the last twelve years from the socioecological-technical and Environmentally Sustainable Digital Transformation frameworks, with a focus on CO2e. Our holistic approach reveals emerging themes, current gaps and research opportunities, thus contributing to IS knowledge building and proposing future studies in this socio-ecological-technical domain. The fallout of the 2020 US presidential election has left a legacy of distrust in election systems in some subsets of the population. It is critical to the continued success of the US democratic system to analyze the mechanics of how the electorate forms a basis of trust that leads to their intention to participate in democracy. If enough people reject the process that supports democracy, this can result in instability and chaos in social systems. This study analyzes these constructs through the lens of the Socio-Technical Model (STM) (Bostrom and Heinen, 1977). This lens facilitated the creation of a new Election Security Model (ESM) and survey instrument. This survey instrument was validated in a pilot study. A subsequent large-scale study of the entire US population was then carried out. The findings showed the STM precursors were strongly correlated to trust. We consider the problem of how a platform designer, owner, or operator can improve the design and operation of a digital platform by leveraging a computational cognitive model that represents users’ folk theories about the platform as a sociotechnical system. We do so in the context of Reddit, a social-media platform whose owners and administrators make extensive use of shadowbanning, a non-transparent content moderation mechanism that filters a user’s posts and comments so that they cannot be seen by fellow community members or the public. After demonstrating that the design and operation of Reddit have led to an abundance of spurious first-party suspicions of shadowbanning in cases where the mechanism was not in fact invoked, we develop a computational cognitive model of users’ folk theories about the antecedents and consequences of shadowbanning that predicts when users will attribute their on-platform observations to a shadowban. The model is then used to evaluate the capacity of interventions available to a platform designer, owner, and operator to reduce the incidence of these false suspicions.
